How about I hate both parties and think they support some pretty awful people and policies? I played this game of voting for the lesser evil. I'm not about to live in a fantasy world where the democrats are really cool guys. They're just a little better than Republicans.

Do you now think I do live in that fantasy world? I mean come on. Painting me as some out of touch neolib because you want to stay in your doomer bag is just silly.

If Barrett wants to keep the line just there, I'll gladly trade for the court not going after abortion.

We should all be more worried about the issues that have arisen since the 70's. Privacy. Intellectual property rights that apply more to individuals and less to big corporations. Surveillance of government. Powers of the President to commit war crimes then hide them under military secrecy. Eminent domain not extending to the bodies of individuals. On all these things I worry about Barrett because there is barely any religious doctrine on them so there's no way of guessing her position. Here they come...

Detroit Free Press: Michigan Legislature issues subpoena to state election officials in rare Saturday hearing

https://www.freep.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/11/07/gop-state-lawmakers-issue-subpoena-michigan-election-records/6203094002/

LANSING — The Michigan Legislature on Saturday issued a subpoena to state election officials as Republican lawmakers launched an investigation of what they say are possible election irregularities in Michigan.

The rare Saturday state legislative hearing, a joint hearing of the House and Senate Oversight committees, took place at about the same time that major networks and other news organizations were declaring Democrat Joe Biden the election victor over Republican President Donald Trump, based on vote counts showing Biden had won enough states to reach the required threshold of 270 electoral votes.

The issuance of subpoenas by Michigan legislative committees, while not unheard of, is also rare. Saturday's subpoena requested documents related to Michigan's election process.

State Rep. Matt Hall, R-Marshall, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said the investigation is needed "to provide needed clarity to concerned residents," and that the subpoena "demonstrates a commitment to getting our election procedures right in the future."

House Minority Leader Christine Greig, D-Farmington Hills, called the hearing a "partisan spectacle," and "a desperate attempt by Republican legislators to cast a shadow of doubt over the legitimacy of our election." She called it a "political stunt designed to undermine confidence in our electoral process and disenfranchise voters who legally cast their ballots in record numbers."

Trump and GOP officials have made a range of allegations about ballots being counted after arriving late, computer errors and GOP challengers being refused access to vote counting locations. But there has been no evidence to support allegations that would significantly affect any election outcomes, isolated unofficial count issues in Antrim County and Oakland County have been explained and corrected by local officials, and a Michigan judge has rejected claims related to challengers.

“I have gotten hundreds of calls and emails from people in Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties who say they have no faith in our election system based on what they have seen since Tuesday," Hall said.

"People have seen news reports of challengers being denied access to polling locations. They see windows being covered up to prevent people from watching ballots be examined and tabulated. Software errors have mistakenly awarded votes to a candidate. These instances and images have led to controversy, confusion and frustration — and it certainly is not a model of transparency."

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, reacted to news that the election had been called in Biden's favor.

"Now, with the election behind us, it is time for the American people to unite against our common enemy: COVID-19," Whitmer said. "This virus has ravaged our country, infecting over 200,000 Michiganders and killing over 7,500. Our hospitalizations and deaths are on the rise, and we are recording a record number of cases each day in Michigan and across the country."

Wisconsin Public Radio: Assembly Speaker Calls For Investigation Of Wisconsin Election

https://www.wpr.org/assembly-speaker-calls-investigation-wisconsin-election

The Republican speaker of the state Assembly is calling for an investigation of Wisconsin's election days after preliminary results showed President Donald Trump losing the state to Joe Biden by fewer than 21,000 votes.

Assembly Speaker Vos, R-Rochester, said in a statement Friday that he had directed the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections to conduct the investigation using subpoena powers to call witnesses.

"With concerns surfacing about mail-In ballot dumps and voter fraud, Wisconsin citizens deserve to know their vote counted," Vos said in a statement that did not offer specifics or evidence.

He continued: "There should be no question as to whether the vote was fair and legitimate, and there must be absolute certainty that the impending recount finds any and all irregularities."

The call from the speaker comes as Trump has disputed results in multiple swing states where preliminary reports show him losing. Trump has signaled that he will ask for a recount in Wisconsin.

Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz, D-Oshkosh, said he's always open to finding ways to improve elections, but questioned the intent of the investigation and Vos' assertions.

"They seem to be fitting in with other lines that have been used in the past to undermine credibility and trust in high turnout in some of our biggest cities," Hintz said. "It's hard to look at this any other way."

The Wisconsin Elections Commission, which could soon be tasked with overseeing a recount, said in a brief statement that it would work with the committee if asked.

"We are confident in Wisconsin's election processes and look forward to providing any information requested by the Legislature," said commission spokesman Reid Magney.

Many of the president's criticisms of the election have focused on the influx of absentee ballots in this year's election as more and more voters decided to vote by mail instead of at the polls because of COVID-19.

Election officials signaled that it would take longer than usual to count those ballots this year. In Wisconsin, the count was nearly final around 6 a.m. on the Wednesday after Election Day.

Michigan & Wisconsin ignoring their PV results, plus a Georgia recount is enough for Trump to steal this thing.

But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The [fascists] have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. I think the outcome is quite good.

Biden will be President, and we can have a less divisive figure to unify the nation. Republicans control the Senate (for now) and gained seats in the House to obstruct Democrats and keep them from going too far.

I think a deadlock is what the nation needs for now to help things cool down a little.
