Background: After several Senators had complained about what was perceived about excessive dependence of the Free Kingdom Armed Forces on Allanean Arms for supply of military equipment, and military logistics leadership had expressed the need for an improved logistics truck for use by the Free Kingdom Armed Forces, a tender was opened by the Ministry of War for a new vehicle. The new vehicle had to have small arms protection for the cab, a capability to operate in a range of extreme environments, off-road and on-road, in temperatures between -50 and +50 degrees Centigrade, and be capable of carrying a range of heavy payloads.

In the initial tender, five candidates were proposed by four different companies. One of the candidate companies was forced out in the document review stage of the tender. Another competitor truck was disqualified as its radiator and parts of its engine froze solid during cold-weather testing, leaving only Allanean Arms and Hammond Motors to compete with three trucks. After several dozen days of testing, the Hammond Motors Mammoth emerged the leader on reliability and off-road capability and was accepted as the standard FKAF vehicle – provided that Hammond Motors improved cabin comfort levels to the levels desired by the Armed Forces.

Allanean Arms attorneys immediately filed a lawsuit against the Armed Forces in the Liberty-City Magistrate Court and won an injunction against the government adopting the Mammoth. This delayed the adoption by over six months while government and Allanean Arms attorneys fought it out, but eventually the appeals court threw out the injunction and the armed forces proceeded with the Mammoth purchase.

Hammond Motors immediately began working on deploying manufacturing facilities for the Mammoth truck in Imeriata, Allanea, and several other countries that have a close relationship with the Free Kingdom, as well as working with Allanean Defense Exports to enter the Mammoth in a range of military tenders around the world.

Finally, the truck is equipped with an Administrative Logging System, which tracks when the truck is in motion, when fuel is added or removed from the gas tank, as well as tracking the vehicle's location. This is to assist military and commercial fleet operators in investigating safety incidents and fuel use.

Protection: The main version of the Mammoth is equipped with small arms protection for the cab, surrounding the driver and engine in composite materials that would protect them from rifle fire and shrapnel. In addition, the shape of the cab will ensure driver survival even in the event the vehicle strikes an anti-tank mine. In such a case, the shape of the cab and its structure will redirect the blast wave flow away from the driver (though the cab will likely be seriously damaged and the wheel hitting the mine will be destroyed).

The vehicle cabin is also fully protected against nuclear fallout, chemical and biological weapons, by means of a positive pressure protection system.

User comforts: Some countries believe that there is some usefulness to reduced creature comforts, that it makes soldiers 'stronger' or 'tougher'. Allaneans do not. Ergonomics studies have shown that reasonable levels of user comfort improve productivity and reduce fatigue, while improving military personnel morale in long-term combat environments. For this reason the Mammoth is equipped with an air conditioning system, fold-out beds for the driver and co-driver, a quality surround stereo system for the cab, a minifridge and microwave.

Self-driving capability The vehicle can be converted to a partially (controlled externally or following in a 'herd' of trucks) or fully self-driving (follow a predetermined route) self-driving version with the addition of a standardized $5,000 conversion kit. A safety driver assist system is included in the baseline truck.

Safety and logging system: Given the high level of accidents in military drivers, it was decided to include with the Mammoth several systems to enhance driver safety. A driver fatigue detection system monitors the driver himself, issuing warnings upon symptoms of fatigue (issuing loud alerts to prevent the driver from falling asleep, issuing reminders for the co-driver to replace his partner). Moreover the truck is equipped with onboard safety cameras that serve to both allow the driver a complement to the use of the truck's mirrors and log events in a possible accident. A safety lane-keeping and driver assist system is also equipped, however this can be shut off in combat operations to avoid it impeding the driver from taking urgent action (such as ramming obstacles).

[color=red]The Driver Safety Assist system or the Fatigue Warning System are not a substitute for responsible driving or responsible scheduling of driver shifts. Hammond Motors will not be liable for accidents resulting from irresponsible behavior by drivers, or those rencidents, preventing driver misbehavior, and in general improving and streamlining their operations.

[b]Usage:
The truck is available in a range of configurations, and can be used by both military and civilian operators with a need to access off-road terrain. It can be used to deliver container and bulk loads alike, and shall doubtless be useful for companies in the logging industry as well as infrastructure companies and long-range geological expeditions.
