Net Corps 30

DRAWKLAND NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM (NET CORPS)

CHAMPIONS, International Basketball Championships 25
CHAMPIONS, International Basketball Championships 28

Name: Net Corps
Colors: Black with Crimson trim
Denonyms: Drawkian or Drawkish, personal preference
TWELFTH IBC, Rank #2
Head Coach: Cody Morgan
Assistant Coach: Sally Hardin
Assistant Coach: Tom Chalk

Basketball is an avid sport in Drawkland, with huge cheering crowds and near-constantly playing pep bands the norm. If you've never been to a basketball game in Drawkland, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs. Or two. You'll need them.

As you may notice, the Drawkian team is sorta massive, as far as height goes. This is perfectly natural for Drawkians, as the national height average is 7'5" (they're not related to humans evolutionarily besides the shape and proportions and such). They also may seem like they're "middle-aged," but that's wrong. In fact, most professional Drawkian athletes don't retire until around the age of 50, since the average lifespan is around 150.

After having their best group stage in their history in IBC 24, the Net Corps went on to get annihilated in the Round of 16 for the fifth straight time (once by Royal Kingdom of Quebec, once by Vangaziland, once Abaja, once by Ceni, and now once by Banija). Finally, they decided they weren't going to take no for an answer. A decade of playoff disappointment took a heel-turn as the Corps made an unprecedented run to the championship game. Drawkland won the game in convincing fashion to Royal Kingdom of Quebec, and finally claimed the title of IBC Champions.

While they lost in the semifinals of IBC 26 to the team they defeated in the previous semifinals, Newmanistan, they still had the skill to make a deep playoff run. And that they did, by making it to the finals of IBC 27 against Vangaziland. Unfortunately, Vangaziland was the outright better squad and took the series in two straight games. The Net Corps was far from out of the mix, though. Despite the short format and taking a loss in the group stage, Drawkland stormed through the IBC 28 playoffs and defeated Vangaziland by 30 points in the final to capture their second title. Drawkland hoped to go back-to-back with IBC 29, but fell short in overtime to Banija in the semifinals. The third place win over the hosts was a silver lining, but obviously the Corps are aiming to recapture their past glory in this IBC.

For the Net Corps, the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) hand-picked team members, some high performers from last edition, a couple different all-star club players, and even a few collegiate players who REALLY shined in the NSCAA. The team is co-ed, and even the coaches are specifically selected now.

TROLLEBORG NATIONAL TEAM

Basketball is a popular sport in Trolleborg, although its popularity far lagged of that of the hockey and football, but basketball Association is extremely interested in closing the gap. In the last tournament, which was her first, the national team first showed a high quality of game, but then suffered several completely inexplicable defeats and finished rather ingloriously. For some time now, people in the high offices of Trolleborg have making far-reaching conclusions about the prospects for the participation of national teams in international competitions looking exactly at the results, and therefore, for basketball players, in case of failure, this tournament will probably be their last international one.

HEAD COACH:

Hendrik Romeijnders (47 years).

Image

The team was entrusted with the same coach as in the previous tournament; idea to invite an experienced foreigner to this post was failed by a majority vote in the plebiscite of fans and specialists. The prevailing opinion was that for a clear understanding of the situation in our basketball, the experiment should be completed in full.

Various exotic ideas have been put forward, such as limiting the coach's choice of players to only those who will be selected by the fans' vote, but these were rejected in a poll. As a result, the head coach chose the lineup he saw fit

HOME STADIUM

Last season, the team first played at the 12,000-seat Arena, then moved the games to the 120,000-seat stadium of 1st December, and lost every one after that, and the question was whether it’s worth to continue. The issue was decided by a plebiscite. With an insignificant majority of votes, it was decided to play in a huge stadium after it was retrofitted with climatic equipment and the necessary amenities, like last season.

Team Info: Basketball was not a very popular sport in Kohnhead until just recently when the domestic Basketball league was created with 8 teams who play a double round robin in one of the shortest schedules there is. They played very well at the Gold Coast Basketball Tournament in Northwest Kalactin finishing in second to 6-0 Sarzonia. The team looked a lot better than anyone had expected and while expectations are still tempered for the IBC there is some hope.

NEWMANISTAN ROCKETS

“Three Time IBC Champions”

Basketball in Newmanistan: Basketball has a solid following in Newmanistan, though the fans are drawn to the college level a little moreso then the pros. It’s popularity is regional in nature, with the Loudon area in northeast Newmanistan being the most fanatical towards the sport. This is a competition that Newmanistan had success in back in the day, winning both IBC 4 and 5. That was a long time ago, but the Empire has been on the right track since its return, making the playoffs in their return in IBC 23, then taking a run at Saint Kanye in IBC 24. The progression continued until the remarkable IBC 29 perfect campaign, where they went undefeated in the group stage en route to the title.

Basketball is played differently in Newmanistan. There is an additional line behind the three-point line that serves as a four-point line. Shots behind the half-court line are worth six points. Players are taught how to shoot from longer then expected distances at a young age, so they will have a higher level of success at these shots in comparison to those who have not routinely practiced them. Be aware of this in the IBC, because while the four-point line will not exist in the tournament, our players are comfortable putting up shots from distances that you’re team might not be used to having to tightly defend. They are unlikely to put up shots from beyond the half court line, though, in this tournament. The big key to remember is that within the halfcourt, be expecting a shot from anywhere.

Coach: Kevin Gibson (50), Southport Tigers
– James Parsons announced before the IBC 29 campaign that the tournament would be his last coaching venue at any level. The team made it a memorable one by leading the legendary national coach to that amazing perfect season and championship. Gibson takes over as the new coach with very large shoes to fill.

Uniforms: Envision the uniforms of the University of North Carolina as the best comparison.

Starting Five:

Image SF: Lucas Bennerman, 27 (6'8", Centralia Firebirds) (#33)
Image PF: Brian Danielson, 33 (6'9", Tundra Falls Mariners) (#30)
Image C: Byron Storm, 34 (7'2", Olympia Gladiators) (#55)
Image SG: Warren Peyser, 26 (5'11", Southport Tigers) (#23)
Image PG: Travis Warden, 29 (6'2", Loudon Leopards) (#22)

– There are no changes here. Why would we? Peyser is an all around juggernaut, exciting people all across the Empire. He will put it up from anywhere, and leads Newmanistan in four-point shooting percentage, so if you are playing us, I highly suggest guarding him tightly as soon as we cross half court. Storm is obviously the big rebounder, but don’t snooze on Bennerman doing the same. He is very productive for the team. Because the team will use their bench often, there is not much concern about the ages of Danielson and Storm.

Bench:
Image F: Shaquan Bateman, 26 (6'8", Tundra Falls Mariners) (#44)
Image F: Marquis Scott, 27 (6'6", Loudon Leopards) (#35)
Image C: Donavan Freeney, 25 (7'2", Pocono City Capitals) (#55)
Image G: Dwayne Murray, 32 (6'4", Putnam Lake Eagles) (#4)
Image G: Kevin McCarrick, 24 (6'2", Jessicaville Millionaires) (#5)
Image Utility: Duvie Fayette, 25 (6'1", Jessicaville Millionaires) (#25)

– All of these players are stars at home as well, so they should not be considered “bench players” like you may consider such players on a real-world NBA team. They are simply more reinforcements of players who are all able to play at a very high level. Therefore, coach Parsons will not hesitate on using them, and giving them a fair amount of minutes as well. These players will get quite a bit of playing time, too. Bateman and Murray are a very exciting players, there is simply no room for them in the starting lineup. When he’s used, there is no let down.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes, but only say they are hurt. I will determine the severity.
Godmod Injuries to my Players: No
Godmod Other Events: No

Also: While you are free to say any of my players “foul out”, keep in mind that the bench does get considerable playing time, too, so players in early foul trouble will likely be on the bench for longer stretches. This doesn’t mean they won’t foul out, but if you go that route in RP, you might want to add in caveats that the coach did try to manage his foul trouble at times.

THE ROCKET REPORT

HOW DO YOU TOP PERFECTION?

By Taylor Larson,

IBC 29. For every other nation, it is a tournament that they look to build on. For Newmanistan, there is pretty much no way that there could be a better result. The team was perfect. No, not only did they win the championship, they never lost a game. At any point. Early in the competition, the media of Northwest Kalactin talked about some of the greatest teams in the history of the International Basketball Championships. The Rockets of IBC 29 can make a case that they would now be a part of that top five list, at the very least. It was a team that went to battle for coach Jason Parsons, a legend in Newmanistan domestically who took the helm of the national team when we returned to the IBC. Parsons retired from the Loudon Leopards, but did announce that in IBC 29, he would retire from coaching in its entirety. His career would end by cutting down the last part of the net in Equestria as the Rockets won their third title.

How can IBC 30 be better for Newmanistan? Well, it can’t. At the very least, the team can duplicate last year’s perfect run, but that is a very high bar to set for your team. Even then, it would not have the backstory of Parsons, so it would not even feel as sweet. The team is back, in its entirety, because how in the world do you change a roster that did not lose a single game? We know that Newmanistan is a team that balances the minutes of the bench quite well, so thinking someone like Byrom Storm can’t do at 34 what he did at 32 is pretty silly. He has not stopped being successful in the ENBA, and has earned his spot here. New coach Kevin Gibson, the only official change from IBC 29 told me that, “As long as everyone wanted to be back, I would be a fool to not take them all back.” Gibson has said that he is not going to try to fill the shoes of James Parsons, but believes the team can continue in IBC 30 what they did in IBC 29. If they did, it would be our fourth title.

Groupmates will be HUElavia, Lochario, Squidroidia, Maccian, and Nova Anglicana. Interesting group for different reasons, but a group the Rockets, as the #1 ranked team in the world, will be expected to win.

Team Valladares Roster
International Basketball Championships 30 - Team Info
Presented by the Valladar Basketball Association

About Valladar Basketball:

Basketball is Valladares' second most popular sport by number of players and registered clubs, behind association football which is the most popular sport by far. Even though there is such a massive gap between both in terms of exposure and marketing, basketball has slowly gained momentum, especially between the young population, and has started receiving more attention from both the media and sponsors, which has helped reduce that gap. The establishment and consolidation of the Liga Superior de Baloncesto as Valladares' professional basketball league has also helped to the growth of the sport in the nation as the league's top clubs have established the Valladar league as one of the leading basketball leagues in the multiverse with their outstanding international performances. The sport is overseen by the Valladar Basketball Association (Asociación Valladar de Baloncesto or AVB in Spanish), which is sending its national team to this IBC edition in the hopes that it will make a decent showing and will take a new step towards establishing Valladares as a powerhouse of international basketball, just like it is at club level already.

All but one player on this team participated in the most recent playoffs. They are led by Jung-Hyuk Park, the Finals MVP, who can score on bunches and has great handling skills. Maude Zwaheil and Annabelle Brit provide the muscle, while Lia Xiu and Natalie Swanson are scoring threats. Off the bench, Ophelia Powell is the most prolific of the bunch, while Rowaine Maera is the best shooter of the bunch.

Strategy:
The Chromatik Team focuses on solid ball-handling and clean transition play, with an emphasis on always running the clock down whenever possible. This means that there aren't as many fast breaks, instead focusing on time of possession and making every possession count. They plan a zone on defense, and are rather good at deflecting shots but not very good at causing turnovers. This team is very green, and are hoping to finish .500.

As the Vyktan IBC delegation arrived in Græntfjall for their pre-tournament training camp, a telegram was quickly sent off to the organizers in the host nation, as the Vyktan Hoopball Association had noticed they'd left a blank space on the entry form.

VYKTAN HOOPBALL ASSOCIATION
OFFICIAL CORRESPONDENCE
TO: GRÆNTFJALL'S IBC 30 ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT
FROM: VHA PRESIDENT KAHLE LENNIE

My apologies for leaving the Super Skill Contest area blank on our registration form, we've been swamped with an election campaign at the moment, and us, alongside the Kickball, Gridball and Stickball federations are trying to make sure we get more funding from the government to allow more sports tournaments for our country in general. Please note the entries to each contest below, the first name is our guaranteed entry, and the second is our reserve.

Yours sincerely,
Kahle Lennie
President, Vyktan Hoopball Association

Super Skill Contest Entries:
3PT: Hahry Kyndret / Chahlze LaKroy
Dunk: Aelan Wahlka / Piter Jahcksuhn
Skill: Jaedan Martines / Marek Horacio

(OOC Note: I forgot to add skill contests to my roster, they are there now but I took the opportunity to make up a quick and dirty RP for it so Graint doesn't miss the update. Also the IC names of the sports are an RP thing, the only one not explained on our roster is Stickball, that is IRL Baseball.)

I'm here for Sports RP. Nothing more, nothing less.
I do not use NS Stats in RP. I purely use it for leaderboards. They also do not reflect my political views.
My RPs are my own and any similarity to past nations or roleplayers is entirely coincidental.

CENTRAL SHANEVILLE FEELING GOOD FOLLOWING WIN
Matchday 1 was a high scoring affair for both Central Shaneville and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec as the two engaged in their opening matchday clash at the International Basketball Championship 30.

In one of the highest scoring games of the Green Group it was the Royal Kingdom of Quebec that took an early lead in the 1st quarter they held into the 2nd too with Central Shaneville on the back foot going into the half time break around 15 points down despite this Central Shaneville were able to mount a come back and following some dunking from Zlatan Ekstrom and a few three point baskets from Kevin Hansen the unranked team found themselves in the lead going into the last 10 minutes of the game.

Their opponents however persevered and continued fighting but Central Shaneville had come out to play in the 4th quarter and proceeded to catch their opponents napping taking the win once the final horn had blown to signal the end of the game, the TV feeds in Central Shaneville showed the home fans celebrating some were even thinking "Is Basketball our Sport?" well that question remains to be answered as Central Shaneville march on and with a long way to go in this group stage anything is possible.

The Inkopolis Times

SPORTS

PUSHING TO THE BRINK

First IBC 30 overtime game ends in Locharian win, Squidroidia giving them a hard time in regulation

Overtime. To some a nuisance, to others a chance to rally and spur an underdog win. The Squidroidia Inklings of basketball had to look forward to one of these overtimes, 5 minutes extra to grind it out, when a last second Kob Brinn shot erased the chance of an upset for the unfancied team when the ball tipped off in Altendalur in their first IBC 30 group stage tie and their international basketball debut. When regulation ended, the score was 59-59, and for the first time in the tournament a game went into OT.

As much as Marie Peyton and company tried to pull off an upset for the nation watching at home, the high pressure of overtime made them crack. They did get some points, a 3 point drain by Midori Wruck, 2 solid buckets by Félix Stablum and his own and 1 after a Jordi Loba foul. But Trint Alex's team got the better of the squids, Lebran Jims serving up a dunk of his own, Remi Alik getting a layup, Kob Brinn draining from 3 and Lebran shooting the game winning shot, a 3 pointer with not a lot of time left on the shot clock, with 10 seconds remaining. Ryley Dufour tried to get a 2 to force double overtime on the Ginger Tigers, but a brick sealed the deal for Lochario, giving them their first win back in the IBC.

On Squidroidian social media, most people were shocked on how good the squids were doing in their first ever game shooting hoops. The game, broadcasted on SBN Sport due to basketball not being a popular enough sport for Big SBN 1 or even SBN 2, shot up in viewership when the final 5 minutes came, upwards of a 220% jump from when the game tipped off. But they were not the best out of the unranked teams in the championships on the first matchday. Elsewhere in the IBC:

  • Hispinas get destroyed by #6 Equestria 57-95 in the Red Group while Sannyamathaland nearly grab an upset against Northwest Kalactin, 62-64,
  • In the Orange Group, Lisander and Pemecutan played a hard fought game 77-73 in favor of the team in green and Omerica record their first win in basketball against The Jovannic,
  • In the game of the matchday, #7 Abanhfleft lose to #11 Valladares 79-84 in the Yellow Group,
  • Central Shaneville pull off the upset of the tournament so far, a 92-77 beatdown against the #4 Royal Kingdom of Quebec, a blowout only bettered in the Green Group by Sarzonia beating Sylestone by 26 points,
  • Drawkland beat Hebitaka in the Blue Group by 37 points, while Delaclava beat Tikariot by 22,
  • The Indigo Group sees the biggest demolition of the matchday but not necessarily the tournament, as Banija beat the Southwest Eastnorth Frontiersmen by 55 points, while hosts Græntfjall just eek out Rwekazaland,
  • In the Violet Group, #5 Valanora beat Zeta Reka and Hügeltaldom 91-53, while TJUN-ia narrowly beat Greater Kamilistan,
  • And elsewhere in the Octarine, Newmanistan start their defense of the title by beating HUElavia by 42 points, 100-58.

When the Inklings take the court, unranked side Maccian will be their opponents. Due to the excitement generated by the Lochario game, the game will be the first basketball game broadcasted on the SBN networks, being broadcasted on SBN 2. Squidroidia will hope to win this game, but in the IBC nothing is guaranteed.

Blue group news

Kriegiersien beats Ottomeme 79–70.

Highly favoured against the underdog, the Kriegiersien team needed till the end of the match to overcome their opponent.

The coaches were rotating much, explaining that they especially tried to prepare for the Super Skill Contest.

“That is the most important competition were we can win something. Especially Johnathon Val did good from the three point line, also critiques said that he overdid it, when stopping there even though he was running freely and alone towards the basket after a fast break. But we must train this”, said Coach Sonic Wedgehog.

Against the next opponent Hebitaka another victory is expected, who were destroyed 94-57 in the match against top favorite and former World Champ Drawkland.

Loss begins the tournament for Hebitaka

In the most recent match against the team Drawkland proved to be a blunder for the team Hebitaka as they had to face a big loss in the first match by 37 points with a score of 94-57 for the Drawkland. The Hebitaka team play was complete scandal from the Very Beginning. The first quarter went scoreless for the Hebitaka with the Drawkland Winning the game by 18-0. The second quarter seemed to have some comeback from the team but it still trailed at 41-28. The third quarter had the same story ending with a scorline of 73-40, and the final quarter ended as we all know, at 94-57.

The best player for Hebitaka was Robert the Center with multiple impressive blocks while the highest scorer for this team was Rai with 22 points alone including 2 three pointers in his stats. The best man for the Drawkland and the man of the Match for this game was T Holland with 41 impressive points in this single game. The best man for this team in the defense was D Roser the F. The Drawkland was completely heavy in every aspects on the Hebitaka team.

With this big loss the Drawkland is in the top of the table while Hebitaka is down at the bottom. The next game for the team Hebitaka will be on 30th October against the Kriegiersien. This team is placed in 15th in the world ranking and currently third in the blue group.

THE ROCKET REPORT

CHERISHING THE TITLE

By Taylor Larson,

After winning a major championship, time just does not stop. This is not an imaginary world where names are just entered into a computer, and results are auto-generated to determine a winner, and when that winner is decided, everything ends. This is real basketball with real people, and the feelings and emotions that come from winning a title will last a lifetime. During IBC 29, the biggest story was James Parsons, and how it would be his last coaching job at any level. His career within Newmanistan is illustrious, but now he would have something that would be in rare company, as a coach that won the IBC.

Parsons said after winning the title, that it was the perfect way for him to end it, and no one would deny that fact. He has been true to his word, and has stepped away from the basketball world. No taking on a position within an organization, no managing a high school team somewhere, and no pursuing a career as a broadcaster. Retirement had started, and he has been living the good life.

“The first thing I did after getting back from Equestria, and after all of the interviews that came with the title, was to spend time with my family, and my extended family. They have not seen much of me, and maybe they liked that, but they also had given me support to carry on coaching into my upper 60’s, and to go out on my own terms.” Then came the planning, “I was always frugal with my money. Helped out those closest to me and gave money to charity at times, but when all that was done, I was grateful for those decisions, because now I could travel, and see the world.”

Parsons said that his focus wanted to be seeing Newmanistan in a different way then he had as a coach. Being able to see all of the cities that he would travel too, and hope to lead his Loudon Leopards to a victory against, in a way where he could appreciate them. “I had been to places like Pocono City and Southport, and all of the places that have ENBA teams hundreds of times, but one of the things I told my wife is that I had never really seen the cities. You fly into a place like Southport, and you see the airport, the hotel, and the arena. Maybe get to check out a new restaurant each time, but that was about it. You don’t see the city that the locals know, and that is something that I wanted to do. See a place like Pocono City and not think of beating the Capitals, but to be there, and enjoy everything. After that, my first international trip had to be to Equestria.”

Why Equestria? Well, the answer was pretty easy, “It was one of the best moments of my professional life to win that title, if not the greatest. I wanted to go back and see the nation, which of course is a unique nation. The Ponies were very friendly and accommodating while I was there, but I did not get a chance to get to know any of them. Now, I could go to some of those cities and meet the locals, and get to know them. There are many more places I wish to visit, many of them are places that I got familiar with through sports. Maybe I will even take that portal that they built in Tundra Falls for the World Cup to go to Sonnel and see Drawkland.”

One thing Parsons has not done is think about returning, but this didn’t mean that he did not watch the opener, a 100-58 trouncing of HUElavia in IBC 30. “I said I was stepping down as a coach, but I will never step down as a fan. I hope that they win it again, and Kevin (new coach Kevin Gibson) is someone who can lead them to it.”

The match between the Sarzonian national basketball team and Sylestone was expected to be rather anticlimactic. Sure, Sarzonia were playing away to Sylestone prior to playing its home debut at The Palestra in Woodstock against Central Shaneville, but Sylestone were sending a team of wavy inflatable men to face an experienced Sarzonian side.

The match proved to be just that: anticlimactic. The Stars never trailed and were leading by 38 before Coach Thomas Manningham emptied the bench in Sarzonia's 94-68 victory. Mike West was held in check more by Manningham electing to sit him out for much of the second half than by Sylestone, but he still led the way with 28 points.

The real drama occurred after the team finished showering and getting dressed as West was starting at his mobile phone.

"Coach! Turn on the tele! Now! Channel 638!"

"What's going on, Mike?"

"The Quebec-Central Shaneville match!"

"What about it?"

"Quebec is losing!"

"By what, 2-0?" small forward Harold Blevins chimed in with obvious sarcasm, not realising that the match was already well underway as the Sarzonia match went final."

"No, doofus! It's late fourth quarter!"

"No shit!" Blevins exclaimed as the tele turned on to see the fourth ranked Quebecois, the top seeded team in the Green Group, in the midst of their final timeout with their coach cajoling his players. The Stars hoopsters gathered around the tele and soon saw the upset of the tournament so far.

"Welp, there goes underestimating those lads!" West said as he watched his teammates standing in stunned silence as the unranked Trains celebrated their victory. All of a sudden, intrigue would surround a match that was originally expected to be an easy victory for the Stars.

Manningham didn't hesitate to drive the point home. He knew taking a match lightly was dangerous. Stars teams across a wide variety of sports made that point clear. But he wanted to put any chance that Sarzonia could sleepwalk through a match against a team that just beat a top-five side to rest forever.

"We've seen what that team can do," he told the team before they boarded the bus to the airport for the flight back to Woodstock. "They beat the highest ranked team in our group and they will feel all kinds of confidence that they can come to our house and beat us.

"We can't let that happen!" he bellowed. "Not in our first match in front of a full crowd since before the pandemic! Let's bring the energy and go Stars!"

No one would know for certain until the match got played if the Trains could pull off two upsets in a row over top 10 sides, but it would not be for lack of intensity by the Stars.

MICHAEL SHANE EXPECTS CLOSE GAME
This evening's news coming out of the International Basketball Championship concerns Central Shaneville's coach Michael Shane who was talking to the media earlier today with the following to say:

Reporter: "So, its out there now, Central Shaneville have done what many unranked teams dream of and thats beat a Top 5 favorite on the first matchday, how does it feel?"

Michael Shane: Look we can't get complacent we are remaining humble knowing there is still a long way to go and whilst it will definitely go down in our history and it made almost every team in our group stand up and pay attention so that's gotta be worth something right?"

Reporter: "Zlatan Ekstrom and the Hansen brothers are considered your team's dangerous players however one of the Hansen's (Timmy) seemed missing in that last game against Quebec, any comment on that?"

Michael Shane looks at the reporter like they are questioning his tactics before saying rather abruptly: "Timmy Hansen is a great player and he will be on the court come our next match with Sarzonia."

Reporter: "And finally your game with Sarzonia...What do you expect?"

Michael Shane: "It will be interesting and I hope for an entertaining game, you can't sleep on anyone at this tournament and the boys know that so we are hoping for another win however this tournament is already shaping up to be mad so anything could happen."

With no clear favorite the game between Central Shaneville and Sarzonia looks to be anyone's game, this is your Central Shaneville lineup, two changes are brought into the team with both Hansen brothers starting which could be pretty dangerous as well as the debuting Taylor van Ginsburg who is a big unknown factor coming out of Central Shaneville's college basketball divisions.

Starting Squad

SG - Taylor van Ginsburg
C - Timmy Hansen
SF - Zlatan Ekstrom
PF - Joe Powell

Reserves

Sports fans of Trolleborg have appeared in the stadiums of the world not so long ago, in less than four years, but their travels take them far and wide in the world. This time they were to arrive in the distant Rushmore region, and there, in order to get to the matches, make a move through the majestic snowy deserts of Graintfjall and cross the bay, which separates the main part of it from the Hofvinger area, where our team had to enter the field in the first match of the group stage. Particularly intriguing were the information that a completely uninhabited desert began almost right behind the strait and stretched for hundreds of kilometers. Being on the very edge of the world is one of the things that evokes a lively response in the soul of any inhabitant of Trolleborg.

Despite the weather, a lot of fans greeted the shore on the upper deck of ferry with flags flying proudly in the wind, and from the side the ship, on which first large batch of fans arrived, probably looked like a military landing craft. Taking into account the low temperature, it was decided to skip usual endeavours like chanting and singing songs on the way from the pier to the arena, where the game was supposed to take place, but the fans made intense noise using pipes, pipes and drums. Needless to say, the guests from Trolleborg had a fear that, like in Taeshan, the perpetually cold weather would affect the character of the local people and make them unsociable and alienated from the entertainment so dear to the Trolleborgians. But the residents of Graintfjall quickly dispelled their fears – almost every local warmly greeted the passing column, many approached to take a selfie or two and exchange a few words, some gathered on the sideways and clapped to the beat of the melody sounded by pipes.

And then the fans, already in a good mood, got to the arena, picturesquely located among the area of industrial architecture and military docks, and there they make a full throttle. Well, everyone must admit that all the guests with some worry expected how the first game would turn out, knowing full well that our athletes often succumb to the influence of unexpected failures, and sometimes lose points and victories on this, and basketball players in the last tournament showed the ability to have unexplained defeats by long series. And West Phoenicia, although a newcomer to the world championships, is not a newbie in basketball, and our guys have already dealt with them in the playoffs of the Olympic tournament, having won 68:60 not without some problems. But this time the team played calmly, confidently and won a victory with a difference of 14 points, and did this quite comfortably, never allowing opponents to doubt the outcome of the match. Well, the beginning has been made, and for the owners of bars and shops in Hofvinger today is also a holiday!

DROP IT DOWN!: First Game In Violet Was TIGHT!!!

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Oct 29, 2020 12:23 pm

After 2 long years, TJUN-ia returned to international basketball competition in Graintfjall. Part of the Violet Group with the familiar in Valanora and Trolleborg, the aim for new Head Coach Boa Zhou was simple: Top 3 as a minimum, playoffs if possible. The BFT wanted a better performance from this team after a strong 4-6 record on debut and with most TJUN-ian teams turning into great sides come the 2nd cycle, the pressure was certainly on Baa to make it happen. At the impressive North Wolf Bay Park in the northern exclave of Hofvinger, the era of Bao began against unranked debutants Greater Kamilistan.

Heading into the fixture, no one had really heard of Greater Kamilistan or their basketball team. Many fans who had made it to the exclave for the tournament and the millions back home thought that this Hoops-Jags squad was good enough to blow out teams like this. But if basketball is anything, it's an unpredictable game as even the smallest of sides can play with the big boys and play them to the wire - even win, like Central Shaneville would do over The Royal Kingdom of Quebec in Griesberg - and that is exactly what GK did. These guys came to play and it resulted in a very tight first half, filled with clutch plays and big moments from both teams. The TJUN-ian 5 all did well, but it was still a tight game - 37-all at HT to be exact.

The 2nd half saw more of the same, with the scores raking up to 75-all come the final 2 minutes. It was here that play was it's most frantic, with both coaches using timeouts and any little advantage they could get in order to beat the opposition. But, in the end, quality would prevail. DeMarcus Winston scooped the ball into the basket to make it 79-78 with .9 seconds on the clock. The hail-mary was missed by a mile and TJUN-ia survived with the win, but you'd have to applaud the effort from Greater Kamilistan tonight - they certainly tried.

It was closer than he wanted, but the era of Bao Zhou began on the right track. He definitely needed to address some issues, but it was a good performance by his men. It will be interesting to see what happens in Game 2 when the Jaguars take on another 15th ranked team in the form of Trolleborg. It will be Bao's first game against a ranked opponent and it was important to make a statement of intent against a potential rival for qualification, but could he rally his men to victory. Only time would tell. GO JAGS!

Sannyamathaland 62–64 Northwest Kalactin
Yikes, that was a close call for us. The Kalactanian almost ended up losing to a team that is far below their skill level. Sannyamathaland was almost able to grab a miracle upset against the strong Kalactanian team, who came into the tournament as the 12th best team competing.

Team captain Jorge Sutton said “While it is disappointing that we almost lost to a team like this, I am happy we were able to pull out the win in the end. After all, they don’t look at how the team played when they make the playoff seedlings, they only look at the W’s and L’s.” Sutton managed to put up 17 points, and 6 rebounds, which allowed him to lead the team in both categories for the game. Star center Michael Hughes had a rough game for the Kalactanian team, as he only managed to put up a meager 7 points and 4 rebounds in what would be one of his worst performances of the tournament.

The game actually started out very strong in the game, taking an 11-3 lead, with points only scored by the Shooting Guard of Sannyamathaland off of a 3 point play down in the post. The Kalactanians came out playing strong down low, outnumbering Sannyamathalan in rebounds 3-1. Hughes had all 4 of his rebounds in the first quarter. Then, the floodgates that is the Kalactanian defense started to open, first it started out with leaving many players out open on the wing for Sannyamathaland. After that, it went to Sannyamathaland getting very easy counterattacks off of Kalactanian offensive turnovers.

Coach Jamarcus Floyd decided to make some changes on defense. He would put the star Forward Jorge Sutton down on defense in the post, and pull Hughes out to the wing to dominate with his size. Safe to say it didn’t work, by the end of the first quarter the game was 21-13, Sannyamathaland. With Sannyamathaland on a 18-2 run for the last 7 minutes of the first quarter, Charlie Larson randomly became an offensive powerhouse, managing for 2 three pointers along with a few free throws sunk. He got the Kalactanians back in the game, it was now 24-22, Sannyamathaland. Almost back in the game.

You know who we hadn’t heard from yet? Rick Garza and Josh Abbott! The dynamic duo that used to be teammates at Murwelldobah Basketball Club jumped into the game and hit the ground running, with 6 straight points that would end up putting the Kalactanians ahead by 2 with a few minuets left in the half. Both teams had played stellar defense so far, but would that continue into the next half?

The answer would be a strong yes. With the game tied at 36 going into the half, both teams were hungry to get back into the game and start going at it again. Another strong start for the Kalactanians would signal more of what they had seen earlier in the game, but some weak plays in the later part of the third quarter would send them into a rough state.

With the game tied at 51 with 6 minutes left in the game, Sannyamathalan went on a 6-0 run that would put them up 57-51. The Kalactanian Star Jorge Sutton would send a bomb from three that put them back in the game. 57-54. A Sannyamathalan Small Forward went down into the post, jumped up to take a shot, and it went in! Worst part? There was an and-one coming up right after. The 3 point play put Sannyamathalan up by 6, and with 2 minutes left, the Kalactanians were getting desperate. Then, Rick Garza got a three. Josh Abbott forced a turnover. Abbott took the ball back and hit a three. 60-60. Three possessions left, at most. Sannyamathalan took the ball down, hit an easy layup for 2 points. 34 seconds left on the clock. Jorge Sutton takes the ball down, and ties the game! 12 seconds left. The Kalactanians are pressing everywhere, they have to get the ball back and make sure Sannyamathalan doesn’t score. Sannyamathalan inbounds it, the ball is tipped in the air, and Michael Hughes grabs it! 9 seconds. Hughes gets the ball to Roy Carter, Carter goes in for the layup, and makes it with 4 seconds left. Game not over yet though. Sannyamathalan inbounds the ball, 3.. 2.. 1.. they put up a shot. NO GOOD! The Kalactanians have won!

And that was all she wrote. The Kalactanians took the W in this game, but it was a bit too close. If they want to do well in the tournament, they will need too put up a much stronger offensive attack in the future. If they don’t, we won’t see them do well.

Election Heats Up!

The snap general election called over the failure for this year's budget to pass the People's Assembly has only caused further chaos, as many fringe parties have been polling extremely well, while the two established major parties, Democratic Labour and the Liberal Republicans, have been falling sharply as people become annoyed with what is perceived as "radical centrism" from both leaders. The two parties with the highest votecount are unusual in that they are both more extreme examples of the DLP's centre-left and the LRP's centre-right origins. The Socialist Movement is the new socialist-left party formed from 3 smaller left-wing socialist parties, while the National Front is a party more affiliated with the rising far-right on the extranet. All of these parties are currently projected to receive around 20% of the vote each, which in the current Proportional Representation system, could lead to any sort of government forming, though the National Front has refused to partner with anyone else, including the LRP, which could mean a spoiler effect if the DLP and SM can manage to convince some other minor parties into a coalition and the vote chare of the NF does not increase much further. We will bring your more updates as the election proceeds, with a special New Sidny Tribune election booklet to be sent to your door alongside the party manifestos, and your electoral voting pack. Make sure your postal vote is postmarked and sent the Wednesday before election day to guarantee your vote to be counted on the Saturday, as any mail received after 8pm Friday will not be included, and Wednesday is the last delivery day offered by Vyktan Post for electoral mail.

Vykta Pulls Off Upset in IBC!

Vykta today defeated the 9th ranked Qasden in the 30th International Basketball Championship, for those of you unaware, Basketball is the standard Multiverse name for our national sport of Hoopball, which weirdly enough, also seems to have been played historically and in an uncannily similar form to the original sport of Basketball on our originator planet of Solus Three, though with rules analogous to the early "2020s". A fact historians are digging deeper into as this may have huge implications on Vyktan culture and trying to find out where the arkship came from, a question we are still yet to answer 20,000 years later. Also there seems to be a lot of "humans" around, who are skinless, tailless and hornless, unlike us... though we also call ourselves humans. Anyway this is meant to be a sports article and I've gone way off topic yet my editor should cut this out. (Why though? It's relevant and interesting, stuff like this sells papers. - Ed) The point is, we defeated a top 10 team 88-64 and that's insane... but even more insane is Jaedan Martines getting a triple double just cutting the lane constantly, assisting off of the pick and roll and cleaning up at the defensive end. I'd love to see the average VHA 3K player do THAT! But I'll get into the neighbourhood, load up OurPark and get a bunch of people who just hog the ball and try and score threes... that's not how hoopball works, let alone 3vx3... and I'm off topic again, but man an unranked team beating a team like that just makes me wanna play more VHA 3K. (I'm required to tell you by law that the author of this article holds shares in 3K Games. Make of that what you will. - Ed)
I'm here for Sports RP. Nothing more, nothing less.
I do not use NS Stats in RP. I purely use it for leaderboards. They also do not reflect my political views.
My RPs are my own and any similarity to past nations or roleplayers is entirely coincidental.

Starting Lineup
PG #3 Ibezimako Akabueze. 6'1. 25 years old. Has played in two IBCs and the Olypmiad. Led University of Moravica to appearance in NSCAA 10 Championship Game. Known for quick transition plays. Plays for the Outreomt Étoiles in the Donnacona Basketball Association. First time as a starter.
SG #5 Saihou Uster. 6'4. 32 years old. Runs around like crazy, relentless motor. Team's best perimeter defender, team's best spot up shooter. Is a poor isolation player and struggles to create his own shot. Captain.
SF #14 Ezekiel Bullo. 6'7, 23 years old. Strong small forward capable of getting to the rim almost at will. He's a crazy good athlete, but he has to work on developing his jump shot. Strong perimeter defender.
PF #4 Labanzi Nabongo. 6'7. 30 years old. Has appeared in 3 IBCs and the Olympiad. Starred for the Manchester Tigers in the Donnaconna Basketball Association, finishing First-Team All-League, averaging a stunning 35 points per night. Can do it all offensively. Taking over as the team's primary scorer.
C #10 Sadio Bartaba. 6'11. 28 years old. Has appeared in 3 IBCs and the Olympiad. The team's best rebounder and most physical player- the emotional heart of this team.
Bench
C #13 Azmera Gulema. 7'1. 23 years old. Rookie in Banija's professional basketball league. Big rebounder, physical rim protector.
PG/SG #12 Janko Jawo. 6'5. 31 years old. Highly energetic, quality perimeter defender. An offensive liability.
PF/C #9 Antouman Ceesay. 6'11. 22 years old. Star player for Kizza I College in NSCAA 11.
SG #7 Ebrahima Faye. 6'5. 20 years old. Banija's highest rated basketball recruit coming out of high school. Star player for University of Moravica in NSCAA 11.
SF #23 Kizza Alonso. 6'8. 21 years old.
C #29. Oluwasegun Tionge. 7'4, 20 years old. Switched allegiances from Northwest Kalactin to Banija at IBC XXIX.

The Closeout lineup is the same as the starting lineup.

Notes:
- We almost always play a 1-3-1 zone defense. It works well with this team, which has lots of size, and is getting faster, especially at guard.
- This team is built very different from past teams. They space the floor much better, they have spread the floor with a lot of players who can hit jumpers, especially three pointers. They also like to play fast.
- This team will run at almost any chance they get. While rebounding, especially on defense, is the team's weakest link, when they do get a rebound, they are able to push the ball, and so quickly.
- For the group stages, this team's rotation runs 10-12 deep, as they will almost certainly shorten the rotation to 8 players come the knockout stages. But for now, he wants to get everybody playing time, and give the starters rest for the later stages of this tournament.

Recent History
The recent history of the national basketball team, or the Lions, has to start with Banija’s return to the international fray in the 24th IBCs- when they first made a name for themselves on the international stage. With Alonzo Busk hired as the head coach, and their play centered around their star front court players, the pair of 7’2 foot twin brothers, this was a team that won with a front court based game. The two were quality free throw shooters for their size, of course, and they stunned everyone in the IBCs by even getting out of their group, finishing with a 7-3 record in IBC 24 after starting 0-2.

They then made a deep run into the tournament, until they ran into the buzzsaw of St.Kanye- who beat them in the semifinals en route to their third IBC championship in a row. Running into one of the sport’s all-time great teams, things seemed to be looking up for the Lions. And then, came IBC 25- the first time they truly faced disappointment. On home soil, in a tournament co-hosted with Filindostan, they went 10-0 In the group stages, emerging as a favorite to cut down the nets in Filindostan. However, for them, they ran into Drawkland, who stunned Banijan fans by pasting the Lions by 20 on their home floor, en route to winning the tournament themselves.

After that, the team got their first major trophy- winning the Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games for the men. That gave them hope flying into IBC 26, and they did well in that tournament, winning their group for the second straight tournament, this time from Pot 2, and getting into the knockouts. They ran into the defending champs, Drawkland, in the quarterfinals, and that was the end of the run for the Lions.

Three IBCs, three knockout stage appearances, three knockout victories- not a bad run for Alonzo Busk. But it was all a disaster at the Olympics. They went 3-3 in the group stages at the Republica Olympiad, the Savaneh twins swan song with the Lions. And that was it for that iteration of the squad. The Savaneh twins retired, and Alonzo Busk, the head coach, resigned after the Olympiad, saying that it was time for a new era of Banijan basketball to commence.

And IBC 27 was the beginning of the new era. With a new head coach in Isaiah Lavaga, they run a different kind of offense entirely- the team running through a pair of quick, quality guards. They shoot a ton of 3s, and try to stretch the floor- almost the opposite of teams past. And with their #4 ranking in the IBC standings, the expectations for this team are extremely high- with even Lavaga himself saying that anything less than a quarterfinal appearance, with the talent on this team, would be ‘a failure’. This team, though almost getting eliminated in the Round of 16, won four in a row over Valanora and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec(respectively), to run into the Vannish buzzsaw in the semifinals.

The IBC 27 Semifinals, going into which Banija had so much hope, was humbling. Vangaziland is clearly a cut above the rest of the multiverse in terms of basketball skill, and they will be the measuring stick, as the Lions hope to do what the national soccer team did to Vilita- prevent them from winning a third consecutive championship. IBC 28 was another strong start for the Banijans in what was a surprisingly short tournament- just 3 group stage games. They won all their group stage games, and their Round of 16 game to boot, before being upset by the Free Republics in the Quarterfinals.

This most recent cycle was the most painful one yet. They finally broke through in the IBCs, finally winning a semifinal in their third try, against rivals Drawkland, only to fall in the final to the resurrected basketball powerhouse, Newmanistan. The pain was added onto the year after, at the XIV Summer Olympiad, taking place in Banija's largest city, Istria. This men's team navigated the group stages and had a strong showing all the way to the Gold medal game, where the sellout Banijan crowd witnessed another disappointment in the biggest moment for Banijan basketball, as they lost and walked away with an Olympic silver medal. A semifinal loss in the Gold Coast Invitational only makes them hungrier as they try to go for gold at IBC 30.
