Chistovodian military and medical personnel are deployed to Maracao as aid efforts increase.
The Sangue Eruption has seen the Chistovodian military ramp up its commitments to our island ally: with the navy and engineering corps taking on key and essential roles.

MARACAO

The Sangue eruption in Maracao is speculated to have killed tens of thousands of individuals, with many missing or displaced, and has brought about economic ruin to the farmlands around the now buried city of Guajaratuba.

With such a tragic loss of life in spite of government pleas for an evacuation, the Arucian community has oriented around diplomatic pleasantries and pledges of assistance; thoughts and prayers. Nuvanian aid is the only silver lining to this tragedy; as a rapprochement between it and the island of Maracao seems to be en route.

Sangue, however, has thrown the Arucian economies into chaos as air travel has been deemed unsafe and impossible due to the caustic ash in the sky. Foreigners in Imagua are being exacuated by boat, and aid to the island of Maracao is being done navally as well.

Viktor Martynenko described the eruption as the most "harrowing thing [he] had ever seen" and could "not imagine" the terror of it in person. In an address to the Grand Congress, he spoke of the moral obligations of Chistovodia to commit to its aid procedures, arguing that "any cost is inconsequential". The words were not carried lightly across the Grand Congress, with Defence Minister Yaroshenko praising the "swift response" of Chistovodia's "first responders" already stationed on the island.

Much of the initial efforts on the island pertaining to rescue procedures, as well as the distribution of medical aid and protective gear, have come from the Chistovodian garrison on the island. Working closely with the hierarchy of the Maracan military and their own civil service responders, the Chistovodian troops on the island quickly took to a frontline effort around the worst affected areas.

Yet, despite this, the government has pledged "even more support" as the Chistodovian Army Engineers have landed upon the island. Their goals are to "provide their aid" wherever necessary, as per the words of Defence Minister Yaroshenko. Doctors, nurses and medical supplies have been pledged to "continue until they are no longer needed". Their use is expected to orient around the reparation of essential infrastructure wherever possible, as well as the construction of temporary and alternative avenues of movement in places where it is unsafe to salvage existing roads and bridges. Once the ash preventing air travel has lifted it is expected they will begin much needed maintenance on Maracao's runways.

All of these measures have come from the requests of Dmytro Musiyenko, Chistovodia's most senior general in the Arucian. These troops are expected to assist the Maracan authorities and efforts to provide food, clean water, medicine and "essential necessities" such as clothing to the displaced peoples of Maracao.

KIRCHESTER

The Leader of the Sotirian Democrats in Hamptonshire, Heath Lawrence, announced his resignation as Minister-President and as Party leader this morning in what would be one of his last speeches to the Province's Parliament in his 30 year career.

The 79 year old who has been Minister-President of the Province since 2008 had said this would be his last term as Minister-President in 2018 following his re-election as Minister-President over the Social Democratic candidate Robyn Jordan. Lawrence was a key ally of Chancellor Schaumann during his election bid in 2017 and it was rumoured Lawrence would run for President in 2019 although he denied these rumours.

In his speech to the parliament Lawrence thanked the people of the Province for letting him serve as the Province's longest Minister-President and he thanked his fellow MPA's from all parties for serving with him since he joined the Assembly in 1990. His speech was met with applause from across the chamber. The Province's opposition leader Helen Shaw congratulated Lawrence and said it was an honour to serve alongside him despite their disagreements.

Chancellor Schaumann also offered his congratulations to Lawrence over Twitter calling him a personal friend and wished him well in his retirement. Schaumann and Lawrence are both members of the party's Liberal wing and have frequently criticised the party's more Conservative wing especially during the early 2010s when Schaumann who was President at the time called them "Obstructionist" and urged them to govern with the Social Democrats.

Lawrence was first elected to the Regional Assembly in 1990 in a by-election for Oxwich on the border with Estmere, a seat he continues to represent until today, at the time Hamptonshire was the most left-leaning province and the provincial government was led Denis Wood who had only just staved off a leadership contest from the left-wing of the party, Wood's government was notable for it's instability and in 1992 the Government collapsed after the Centre Party's new leadership left the governing coalition. The 1992 Regional election saw Lawrence come within 100 votes of losing his seat and the Social Democrats returning to government with a larger amount of seats than expected. Lawrence retained his seat in the 1996 regional election winning a 2032 vote majority, 1996 also saw the Sotirian Democrats become the largest party under the leadership of Nicole Baker. Baker and Lawrence were regarded as close friends and Baker appointed Lawrence as the Deputy Minister for Transport. Baker was forced to resign in 1999 after it was revealed the Regional Government had embezzled money meant for Millennium celebrations. Lawrence ran to replace Baker in the ensuing leadership contest although came in 7th place in the First ballot only receiving Seven Thousand votes. Fraser Barnes, a member of the Right-wing of the party was chosen to replace Baker and led the party to electoral disaster in 2004 after the World Financial Crisis. The Social Democrats were returned to government albeit in a coalition with the Socialist Labour Party, the Hamptonshire division of the Workers Party which at the time was on track to become the largest party in parliament. Lawrence who had defied the odds and retained his seat again ran for Party leader and won in a two way vote between him and Barnes' deputy Reece White who formed the right-wing Democratic Alliance . Lawrence was elected as Minister-President in 2008 and has continued to serve that role until just this morning.

The Sotirian Democrats are expected to pick Lawrence's replacement and many experts are predicting that they will elect Rev.Philip Gardner who made international headlines in 2004 for coming out as gay. Gardner who served as the Province's Education Minister is well known across the Province although he may alienate the Right-wing of the party who might defect to the province's Right-wing National Pride which has made gains in the Province since 2018 including several high-profile party defections including former Minister-President Charles Wilkinson and Helen Gordon the MRA for Merrow Lake.

Lawrence will remain as Minister-President until his successor can be chosen in the coming weeks.

NEWS| Rwizikuru: Corruption falls to lowest level in 25 years
Report shows levels of corruption decreased between August 2018 and August 2020
12.15am 24 September 2020

Port Fitzhubert, Rwizikuru - Since the acceptance of the one hundred million euclo loan by the Global Institute of Fiscal Affairs last August, contingent on the adoption of a new constitution, and on cracking down on corruption, corruption levels in the Kingdom of Rwizikuru have fallen to their lowest level since 1996.
Image
Mutungamiri Tsuru Mawere has overseen a crackdown in Rwizikuran corruption

According to a report published by the Global Institute of Fiscal Affairs, corruption in Rwizikuru have fallen to its lowest level in nearly 25 years: while between August 2018 and 2019, only twenty-seven people were charged on corruption offences, with only nine convicted, between August 2019 and August 2020, 679 people were charged on corruption offences, with 509 people convicted on corruption charges, representing a twenty-five-fold increase of corruption charges by Rwizikuran courts, and a fifty-six-fold increase of corruption convictions by Rwizikuran courts. Of the 509 convicted, 279 were government officials, including Prince Tashongedzwa, who was convicted of embezzling money during his tenure as the district head of Dzakakwirira.

While from August 2018 to August 2019, the number of reported incidents of bribery (failed or successful attempts) were at 1,503, from August 2019 to August 2020, the reported incidents of bribery were at 2,111, or a 1.4-fold increase of bribery, although it is believed that this is due to improved reporting of bribery, due to government campaigns urging Rwizikurans and foreigners to report bribery. Likewise, while from the period between August 2018 and August 2019, only around 25% of the allocated funds reached the programmes that were supposed to be funded, between August 2019 and August 2020, it grew to 55% of the allocated funds reaching government programmes.

The report also said that most of the gains that took place between August 2019 and August 2020 took place after January 2020, when the new Rwizikuran constitution was promulgated, suggesting a correlation between reduced levels of corruption in the Kingdom of Rwizikuru, and the adoption of the Rwizikuran constitution.

Lou Beaumanoir, who participated in the drafting of the current Rwizikuran constitution, said that "these results are incredibly encouraging, and I think that by instituting a new constitution, in addition to campaigns against corruption, by urging citizens to not bribe or take bribes, and by cracking down on embezzlement, Rwizikuru may be able to overcome their historic ills of corruption. I fully expect more government funds to reach the programmes that are supposed to be funded in the coming years."

However, there has been scepticism: Muchazvireva Ngonidzashe, head of the Rwizikuran government-in-exile said that "in 1988, after we revealed the scope of the corruption in the Rwizikuran royal family, they made an agreement with GIFA. While for about five to seven years, they were following the terms of the agreement, as soon as the world's eyes turned away, they became corrupt again, as Mweya revealed to the world. The royal family may no longer be corrupt, but given the number of people involved in government now, I expect that in ten years, Rwizikuru will still be as corrupt as ever, even if the people engaging in corruption are no longer the Ngonidzashe family."

BELMONTESE AID ARRIVES IN MARACAO
Equipment and personnel were sent to help rebuild affected areas
Renata Gaspar (@renatagaspar) | Sep 24, 2020 | Castelonovo

CASTELONOVO - After the Pico de Sangue's violent eruption caused immense destruction in Maracao, the Belmontese government announced that the aid sent to rebuild damaged areas of the country has arrived in Porto Leste today.

The entourage is composed by 590 medical and military personnel that will operate in Guajaratuba, which was the most affected place of the entire island, acting in the search of bodies and survivors hidden under the rubble and in the treatment of families hit by the catastrophe as well, being the first time that Belmontese soldiers set foot on Maracan soil. Along with specialized personnel, Belmonte also sent protective gears, medical supplies, tents, food and machines to both the local population and to other teams working there.

In a press conference, foreign secretary Rebouças praised the Belmontese crew, saying that Belmonte "reiterated its position as a regional power and sent the best of its forces and goods to help our Maracan brothers." Rebouças also thanked other countries for their commitment in sending aid too and declared that more men and supplies will be delivered in the next weeks:

"Of course that we will don't stop now. Over the next weeks, we will send more medical supplies, protective equipment and food to our Maracan brothers and sisters as well as more medics, nurses, engineers and rescuers as fast as possible."

Despite the worst has been gone, its outcomes are present everywhere. According to the IMM, the volcano had a VEI of 6, the largest in Maracan history. In Guajaratuba, the government confirmed the death toll of 22,376 people with other 100,000 being displaced after losing their homes, making the eruption the biggest disaster of the socialist state. Thousands of forest hectares have been lost to the fire and the ashes even affected the high command as president Adão Costa fell ill due to respiratory problems aggravated by the eruption.

Regarding the evacuation of Belmontese tourists in Imagua, secretary Rebouças said that the operation was a success, with almost everyone being sent through boats to Aucuria and then to Belmonte. The Secretary of Foreign Affairs released a report claiming that the majority of Belmontese citizens who have been stuck in Maracao doesn't have any injuries, but didn't said if there was any casuality.

The impacts of the eruption over Belmonte proved to be minimal, with only a thin layer of ash falling in some areas of Pindarama and Juazeiro. According to the IPSS, there is no significant threat to the health of the inhabitants of these areas, while the government doesn't expect more ash at all.

How the NKP has reshaped healthcare
Government reforms have ushered in the private sector into healthcare - and further deregulated alternative medicine.

WESTBRÜCKEN, WERANIA - In their campaign for government last year, the NKP made several promises regarding the health sector. Alleging that healthcare in Werania was being held back due to a mixture of cumbersome bureaucracy, overemphasis on management, differences between the länder and insufficient funding from the federal government the NKP promised to fix these problems through a "fundamental reform" that would "sweep away the inefficiencies of the current system by focusing on new technologies and methods to bring our healthcare system up to date to meet the challenges of the 2020’s”.

Since June 2019, that has amounted to some big reforms into the sector unseen since the implementation of universal healthcare on a federal level in 1986.

Shortly after taking office last year the government drafted and passed the Healthcare Choice and Provision Law that changes the way funding is allocated for länder in regards to their health systems. The previous system introduced in the 1950’s had the federal government determine the healthcare budgets for each individual länder but the länder themselves could spend the money as they pleased. Most länder have prioritised spending such budgets on state-owned public hospitals, a decision the NKP have blamed for increasing bureaucracy in such hospitals and being a waste of taxpayer money.

Instead, the NKP have looked to Roetenberg for inspiration in their healthcare policies. Roetenberg - governed by the NKP in various forms since 2000 - has implemented a public-private system that has privately-owned and publicly-owned hospitals compete against each other for such funding. Money is withheld from certain hospitals if they fail to meet various thresholds or health targets, measures the Roetenberger government claim help increase efficiency, drive down costs and ultimately benefit patients. As a result of such policies, the healthcare system in Roetenberg - in stark contrast to that in other länder - has been dominated by the private sector. Patients are eligible for care in either private or public facilities, with paying patients receiving certain privileges, like skipping long waiting lists. The private sector as such treats both privately and state insured patients whilst the Roetenberger government picks up the tab.

According to the Roetenberger government, this policy has resulted in higher public satisfaction from patients on the quality of their healthcare and has insulated Roetenbergers from cuts in the healthcare sector as the private sector pays more in. Up to 45% of all healthcare funding allotted to Roetenberg is placed in the private sector. The Roetenberger government has also claimed that such a policy also means more specialised treatments in areas such as cancer treatment is superior to the rest of the country. But the downside of this policy is that it has increased the total cost on the taxpayer - Roetenbergers pay up to a third more for healthcare services then those in other länder. It has also undermined publicly-employed general practitioners, who often are skipped over by patients in favour of going to the “customer first” hospitals for aliments are trivial as headaches. The logic of such a policy has also placed a premium of profit over prevention with hospitals concerned only with individual care and certain, less profitable parts of healthcare - such as intensive care units - remain the domain of the underfunded public sector.

Nevertheless the Healthcare Choice and Provision Law, passed in September 2019, has foisted upon the länder the Roetenberger system as the default. Targets of 20% of all allotted funding for healthcare must now be marked for the private sector and thresholds for health delivery - similar to the competition system introduced in Roetenberg - must be implemented across all länder.

“This is about increasing choice for patients”, Health Minister Sabrine Dümmler stated when the law passed. “More market incentives within the healthcare sector will allow for greater efficiency and rigorous standards to be adhered to thereby improving the experience for patients. It will also shake up the bureaucratic mirage that currently clouds our healthcare system which will as a result make it better for the taxpayer”.

The Healthcare Choice and Provision Law has as a result been hugely controversial as health experts warned it would skew the healthcare system towards a race to the bottom between private and public hospitals in order to chase funding. As well as that they also warned it would mean especially for states that already deal with funding problems such as Ruttland that the quality of public healthcare would further decline as well as increase costs overall. Despite this the law sailed through the Volkstag with the government's comfortable majority nullifying the critics.

Many of the targets and thresholds however remain unfulfilled. Whilst NKP-run governments in Cislania, Wolfsfled and Wittislich have implemented the policies in quick succession other länder have been cautious, with Ruttland especially being hesitant to allocate more funding. For now such deviance is tolerated but Dümmler has threatened to cut funding for states that aren't on their way to meeting targets in 2021, showing the NKP-DA coalition is serious about the act going through.

Some have said the Healthcare Choice and Provision Law is intended to usher in privatising the state insurance system, the Health Assistance Programme, but this has been rejected by Dümmler. "The intention of the law is to change the way the provision of healthcare is handled. It is not intended to end our universal, state-financed insurance scheme - under the NKP the Health Assistance Programme is not only safe but liable to be expanded into new areas of care".

But the Healthcare Choice and Provision Law is not the only innovation in the healthcare sector that the NKP-DA government has implemented. Unnoticed this year in June the government passed an equally contentious piece of legislation - the Pharmaceutical Regulation and Use Law. The new law has deregulated the sale of experimental drugs to hospitals who can now purchase such drugs in much greater quantities, a move that has been cautiously accepted by health experts as potentially useful provided existing strong testing of such drugs remain in place. But what has induced alarm is that the law has also liberalised the sale of these drugs to alternative medicinal clinics.

The widespread prevalence of alternative medicine is the enfant terrible of Werania's healthcare system. The continued issuing of official recognition to naturopathic doctors has created a system wherein private clinics that specialise in such therapy - unproven to work with modern science - have flourished. In particular are clinics that practice integrative cancer treatments that are billed as "miracle cures" - there have been several high-profile cases where people have gone to such clinics to be "cured" when they were told in their home countries or Werania that they have little chance of survival. Many of these people die shortly after their expected death date, but this is oft ignored by such clinics who practice methods such as homoeopathy, ozone therapy, amygdalin, and orthomolecular medicine - none that have been proven to work. Such clinics often have patients pay extremely large medical bills for unproven treatments, making them profitable but controversial.

Such clinics are eligible to occasionally use experimental drugs that haven't been proven in clinical trials to significantly help people thanks to lax regulations. The Pharmaceutical Regulation and Use Law will allow such clinics to not only purchase these drugs in larger numbers but also at cheaper prices. The law has horrified medical experts with the Weranian Association of Doctors and Medical Professionals (the main doctors' union in the country) having issued a statement wherein they have announced their "shock and opposition" to the "further legitimisation and promotion of alternative medical practices". The federal government for its part has defended the law, stating that it "increases innovation, drives down costs and gives patients more choice within the medical sector".

So what has been driving these two fairly consequential pieces of legislation? One would at first say it comes to a genuine belief that market-led solutions will improve the healthcare sector. Although the NKP have taken a more big-state approach to the health sector in some ways - the Ministry of Health Services is earmarked to have a budget of €175 billion by 2024 - it still remains a neoliberal party that supports the free market and so believes that greater private involvement in the health sector short of full privatisation will improve efficiency and bring down costs. This line of thinking definitely plays a role in the healthcare reforms, particularly the Healthcare Choice and Provision Law.

But another aspect needs to be considered. The NKP have received donations of up to €1.2 million from private healthcare providers over the past four years, on top of a further €500,000 from pharmaceutical companies in the same time period. The current Minister of Energy and the Environment Martin Stammberger worked at Matuoka Pharmaceuticals, a Senrian pharmaceutical company, before entering politics. The government has deep links with the private health sector and it would be foolish to assume such links don't have an effect on government policy.

Dümmler promised last year that the Healthcare Choice and Provision Law would be the "first and decisive step" in shaking up Werania's healthcare system. Let's see where the healthcare revolution the NKP have embarked on will take Werania next.

Phillip Gardner to become new Minister-President of Hamptonshire
Gardner was elected on the second round of ballots by SDFH MRA's with a slim majority of all votes cast

KIRCHESTER
Phillip Gardner will become Hamptonshire's next Minister-President after winning a majority of MRA's votes gaining several more votes than his nearest competitor Sarah Harris.

The former mayor of Chesterfield and the Province's current education minister has been the frontrunner since the start of the short campaign although lost significant ground to Harris who ran a populist right-wing campaign similar to the 1996 campaign of Nicole Baker who was the SDFH's last Prime Minister.

In his acceptance speech to the Party's MRA's he thanked them for their support whilst conceding that he "may not be liked by all members of our community".

Heath Lawrence, his predecessor, congratulated Gardner on his victory and jokingly told him "good luck" as was overheard by a microphone mishap. Lawrence will cease being Minister-President tomorrow at noon when Gardner will officially become Minister President.

Several right-wing cabinet members have also resigned in the face of Gardner's victory prompting more fears from within the party about an imminent split between the right wing and the moderates. A senior figure from within the party said that "it is becoming increasingly likely that the Radical wing will leave the party." They added "the radicals have long felt isolated by the moderates especially after the Recession in the mid-2000s which was blamed on the radical's neo-liberal policies from the previous administration."

Gardner is taking control however at a relatively stable time politically within the province and nation-wide, the SDF is the second largest party in the House of Representatives and both provincial wings of the party, the SDFH and SDFF, both are governing in Hamptonshire and Fawkhamshire respectively although the SDFH have a much stronger position whilst the SDFF are continuing to be embroiled in their "cash for information" scandal.

Neither wing have a secure majority in either regional assembly and Gardner has voiced support for an early election to bring up his party's majority.

Gardner is the first openly Gay Minister-President in all of Alsland and the second-highest ranking member of the LGBT community to ever serve in public office. He married his husband, Mark Gardner, in 2015 and have adopted a daughter since. Phillip Gardner has been a vocal supporter of LGBT rights both inside Hamptonshire and Alsland as a whole. Gardner helped pass the 2019 Sexual Education in Schools act which made it compulsory for schools in Hamptonshire to teach students about LGBT relationships.

The latest opinion polls have Gardner's party with a 5-point lead over the Social Democrats who until recently were expected to return to power in the province.

The SDF's deputy leader Lilian Cooke, the current Minister-President of Fawkhamshire, congratulated Gardner on his victory. Cooke who is the youngest Minister-President at age 35 has been a vocal supporter of LGBT rights in Alsland.

Opinion: All Quiet Across From Qaa; how an uneasy, unofficial truce dominates a cold stage of the Tsabaran Crisis.

Image
Tsabaran soldiers patrolling suburbs and towns across the nation is an increasingly common sight.
Adunis, Tsabara - The Tsabaran Crisis has, very rightly, dominated the international news cycles. As the Tsabaran nation is beset by a brutal civil conflict between a coalition of moderates and ethno-religious separatists in its west, decades of work in the creation of a cosocial state for all of its people is threatened to be cast aside and squashed. Yet this crisis has entered a silent stage; a stage of dormancy and inaction as the country prepares to engage in its proud democratic tradition in November.

With over 60 million souls residing with Tsabara, the implications of the nation becoming a failed state or dissolving are mathematically comprehendible but... immense. The sheer loss of human life from the dissolution of the state would be catastrophic; as countless are left homeless, without utilities and without basic necessities.

A conservative estimate from the Community of Nations' Commission for Refugees and Displaced People warned earlier this year that, if proper precautions were not taken, and the Tsabaran government toppled, it was likely that roughly 40% of the populace could be displaced. As of right now that is approximately 24,000,000 people. This included internal displacement at around 14 million and largely east to west and south to north displacement. This left the CNCRDP's estimates at 10 million people externally displaced; with the highest projected figures being neighbouring Zorasan, Ihram and southern Euclea. And yet during these unprecedented times within unprecedented times; we have gone almost two whole weeks with no reported movement across the Aurean. Live updates from refugee camps in north western Tsabara seem to show well supplied accommodations of tents for the displaced. It is, utterly and truly, surreal.

Fortunately, precautions have been taken and assistance has been given to what is popularly called the "Unity Government" or "Adunis" in the papers. Composed of the Party for Irfanic Democracy, the Atudite People's Party and the Sotirian Peace & Equality, this coalition has largely been accredited with keeping Tsabara afloat. It is on the mind of everyone in the Euclean Community, and dare I say the Euclean Continent, where one draws the line between assistance and conflict. I maintain that the path taken by Gaullica remains correct; one of material support to the afflicted Tsabaran population and alleviating the Tsabaran forces were possible: as in their commitments to patrolling the Aurean Straits. The consequences of the idea of Gaullican boots in the ground, to me, brought unsavoury memories to colonialism, imperialism and a legacy of oppression. Gaullica cannot, in good conscience, commit to military assistance until all other avenues have been tried.

But, this crisis, is currently in a dry spell as it would seem. The strength of the current Unity Government in its efforts to beat back the separatists in the east, who they accuse Zorasan of collaborating with, is quite remarkable. The retaking of Qaa re-energised a weary government and people. Yet now an uneasy peace hangs in the air in Tsabara. And it is not an invisible peace. One can see militarised zones on the banks of the Zarqa to the east of the city of Qaa; one can see troops patrol the suburbs of cities that many would remark look like their own neighbours.

And the Tsabarans are a people prepared to make their voices heard. In November of this year, despite the trials and tribulations, the people of the Federation will be making their way to make their choice.

Internal criticism of the Tsabaran government's decision to hold elections has been plenty. Those in the west, the very separatists from the government, have argued that the provinces they fight in will not be represented. The government argues that the refugees from these regions will cast their votes in the stead of these people. Adunis has even invited international onlookers, as Nazim al'Qutayni aims to bring about legitimacy to his rule and the preservation of the cosocial state. Just last week he declared that "the nation, for the first time in months, is in a week of quiet". He would add that the Tsabarans should "savour the nothing but prepare for the everything" and stressed on them to "make their choice clear" in November.

And there we have been left. Little has changed, if anything, since the statement of the election was called. Much of the international community has supported Nazim al'Qutayni's efforts; and polls released by this paper and the VousGov that operates in Tsabara seem to indicate the popularity of the president and his coalition is rising. Some have even suggested that this lull in events is indicative of behind the scenes negotiations between either side; that the separatists are in the midst of negotiations to participate in elections. On the other hand there have been reports of small skirmishes in the north and the south of the country; against the two camps that were recently brought into the fold of Adunis: the Tsabaran Section of the Workers' International in the north and the Oroqic Liberation Front in the south.

But every action and every move is weighted against this perception that Tsabara is currently in an internal cold war. A war of perception is being played; a game of the public relations and public image. Who can crumble under the pressure of the peace first; who will slip, who will tragically reignite any resentment with an action perceived as aggressive?

It worries me that from here things can, realistically, only get worse. Desperation frightens the fanatic and the looming possibility that Nazim al'Qutayni's government will dominate any election and prove its right to do as it does, its mandate, will shake a secessionist into action.

It must be said and must be stressed that this quiet in Qaa is not normal. It is not a new normal. It is merely a blip of peace; the eye of the storm. And the Tsabarans are ready for that reality. What concerns me is that the world outside of the Euclean Community is not.

President Edmondo Privitera at a press conference appealing for international aid

Three weeks following President Edmondo Privitera's visit to the northern parishes of Imagua to inspect the damage caused by the ashfall, and to provide moral support for the residents in the northern parishes, Edmondo Privitera was hospitalized at the King Charles Hospital after reporting respiratory problems.

The Red House confirmed the story, saying that "His Excellency Edmondo Privitera went to King Charles Hospital at around midday after having experienced difficulty breathing for the past several days. The Health Minister has confirmed that Privitera's condition is fair at this time." As of press time, neither the Red House nor the Ministry of Health have said anything about Privitera's diagnosis.

First Lady Delfina Privitera also confirmed the Red House's statement, saying that "my husband has had difficulty breathing since his trip to Nua Taois and the northern parishes on the 21st of September, and is currently in hospital." She added that Privitera "is a fighter, and will get through this, with his energy and vigor, just as he always did."

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

FIRE KILLS 46 IN PORT HOPE; POLICE SUSPECT ARSON
A fire in an apartment block in Port Hope kills 46, and injures dozens.

PORT HOPE, SATAVIA -
A fire that engulfed a 22 story tower block in southern Port Hope has killed at least 46 people and injured scores of others, and Port Hope Fire Service and the Police Service expect that number to rise.

The Fire Service were called at approximately 10:12 PM local time last night, after callers reported a "blinding glow" and an onset of thick smoke in the radius of the tower. Police confirmed that whilst they had rescued forty people, there were still people unaccounted for. A spokesman for the Fire Service said: "The Port Hope Fire Service is currently battling a blaze engulfing a tower apartment in Port Hope. Preliminary reports compiled by our own Fire Marshall's and [The Police Service's] Internal Accident Board, have not ruled out the possibility of an arson attack".

In a Tweet from the Prime Minister’s Office, the PM said that he was ‘deeply saddened’ and that ‘[his] thoughts are with those affected by this terrible tragedy”. The PM is expected to make an official announcement later today. A fire on this scale hasn’t happened in Satavia since the Great Fire of Hopetown in March 1748, which killed many more and did a lot less damage, but the death toll makes this the second biggest fire in Satavia’s history.

The fire, that was put out earlier this morning, had appeared to ‘gut’ the building. Initial fears that the tower might collapse are ‘unfounded’ and the Rescue Service said that they now had teams in the building. The building is managed by a private firm, the Port Hope Town Development. The firm owns over 100 buildings in Port Hope's Southern Districts, and the company refused to comment when asked and have not yet released a statement.

People across the country have held demonstrations in solidarity with those who have lost loved ones or their homes in the blaze.

The Prime Minister's Office tweeted about the fire at 7:17 AM Local Time, and since then it has had almost 5,000 likes. Former Prime Minister Johan de Vilock (JdV), also tweeted his condolences along with the Government of The Patrick Islands (PI), who sent there condolences from the people of PI to the people of Port Hope

MUCHINDA MAKOMBORERO DISINHERITED
Crown Prince Tavonga Ngonidzashe requested Mambo to disinherit his eldest son due to "developmental delays"
Image
File photo of His Most Faithful Majesty in Rutendo

Gondo Chikwava | 3 MAY, 2020 05:12 | PORT FITZHUBERT, RWIZIKURU

Today, the Imba yoRudzi announced that "in light of Muchinda Makomborero's severe developmental delays, the Mambo, acting on the advice of the Crown Prince, has decided to disinherit Muchinda Makomborero Ngonidzashe from the line of succession, due to Makomborero's severe developmental delays."

The spokesman from the Imba yoRudzi stated that "after having attempted medical treatments to cure his condition, as well as an exorcism, the House of Ngonidzashe has come to the conclusion that Makomborero will almost certainly be unable to exercise the duties expected of the Mambo if he ever accedes to the throne."

"Therefore, upon the request of the Korona Muchinda, His Most Faithful Majesty the Mambo, has decided to remove Makomborero Ngonidzashe from the line of succession, and to grant Makomborero the title of Ishi," the spokesman declared. "The House of Ngonidzashe is confident that Makomborero shall find a suitable role in the royal house of Ngonidzashe, and in the general society, befitting of his position and that fits his limitations."

This decision means that Makomborero's brother, Munyaradzi Ngonidzashe, will become the new second-in-line to the Rwizikuran throne: thus, when his grandfather and father dies, Munyaradzi will become the next Mambo of Rwizikuru.

When asked about whether Munyaradzi has any developmental delays, the Imba yoRudzi responded in the negative, saying that "Muchinda Munyaradzi's reaching the developmental milestones of the average two year-old child, and is perfectly healthy and normal."

EUCLEAN COMMUNITY COORDINATES AID TO MARACAO, AS AURATIA AND GAULLICA LEAD THE EFFORT.

Image
Aid is instrumental in ensuring the Maracan people can bounce back from the devastating volcanic eruption.
Kesselbourg, Kesselbourg - The Euclean Community continues to organise and coordinate the disaster aid responses of its individual member-states as both Auratia and Gaullica 'lead the charge' from within the group of countries.

Marcel Bollendorff, the Euclean Commissioner for International and Emergency Aid and Crisis Support, has seen about bringing the efforts of all the member states in line. He referred to the independent and bilateral efforts of Gaullica and Auratia, which began shortly after the crisis itself, as "the hallmark of the consistent policies" that all nations would be partaking in.

He said that in addition to the efforts of the countries within the Community, it itself would be providing over €50,000,000 in food and water assistance, disease outbreak preparation measures and rapid response capacities. He described that this was an "initial aid response" and that the Community was "in close contact" with Maracan authorities and discussing aid. The largest priority at the moment, aside from providing the necessary essentials for all affected Maracans, is to "nip disease in its bud".

Auratian aid began as soon as it was available to; the close links of both countries were alluded to by Germán del Caserío, the Premier of Auratia. Sources close to the premier have confirmed that there has been a "continuous" back and forth of dialogue between the Auratian Premier and President Adão Costa of Maracao. Aside from monetary assistance, Auratian officials have confirmed the much requested aid has included medical supplies, clothing, medical and cooking kits, emergency shelter kits and personnel to aid in both rescue and repairs of vital infrastructure. Del Caserío also pledged up "15 million euclos" in relief aid directly from Auratia.

With the large volume of ash blocking air travel, Gaullica's aid primarily began navally from ships and resources stationed at the Îles des Saints. The islands have also been the focal point of much of the distribution of Euclean aid; given their close proximity to the island and their naval and aerial facilities. It has been confirmed by the office of the presidency that President Degar-Abdulrashid "immediately" sanctioned the use of military assets in the area in providing aid; seeing elements of Gaullica's navy and marines assist in the initial rescue operations in the island. Since then Gaullican bases in the eastern Arucian and the Kosene Seas have been "vital" to the transition of supplies to the affected island. Much like the Auratians, Gaullican aid has been both monetary and supply based; seeing similar transition of equipment towards Maracao.

Both countries have also been working with the Chistovodian and Nuvanian responders in the region; a relationship the Commission has said will "be expanded upon" as the member states consolidate their aid efforts.

President Walker announced her full support for the efforts of International and Emergency Aid and Crisis Support. She said that "Euclea's strong network of disaster aid should be concentrated in the current emergency" and its "full force brought to bear."

Other Euclean Community countries like Estmere and Caldia, have committed roughly one million of their own euclos towards the disaster fund. Werania's Chancellor Otto von Hößlin pledged a similar amount of money at a recent press conference, in addition to "working closely with all our Euclean partners" in seeing the relief aid properly administered and implemented.

Protests in Arciluco fueled by political tensions
The failure of the vote of no-confidence against the government agitates Amathians throughout the entire country

ARCILUCO

The tension in the air was already palpable early in the morning, as the first representatives and deputies arrived in the Palace of the People, the seat of the Senate of Amathia. Three days before, members of the League of Equalists and Democrats and the Constitutional-Democratic Union had initiated a motion of no-confidence against the controversial Veleșean Government. Prime Minister Ramona Veleșean had incited a series of protests over the past few months because of her indictment by prosecutors of the Central Anticorruption Service on charges of corruption and embezzlement, due to her alleged involvement in the misappropriation of Euclean funds by the Central Company of Amathian Atomic Energy Generation. Despite the popular discontent, the opposition did not manage to formulate a clear plan against the government for over a month, presumably due to the difficulties of convincing members of the ruling parties to withdraw their confidence in the coalition that supports Veleșean. The leadership of the Center Front, the Premier's party, has been particularly insistent about their continued support for her and her government, And their support seemed to pay off today.

As the members of the two chambers of the Senate met in the morning, in a united session of both chambers, to vote on the motion of no-confidence, the Prime Minister was notably absent, even if some of the ministers of her government were seen within the groups formed by members of their respective parties. With the ruling coalition only have a one seat majority in the Chamber of the Nation and a three seats majority in the Chamber of the People, it seemed like anything could happen. From the entire country and even from abroad, people watched as the proceedings were shown live by most of the major news networks.

And then the motion failed. By two votes, and with enough abstentions that the qorum was just barely respected.

Even before the leaders of the major parties left the Palace of the People and started to answer the questions of reporters, small groups of protesters had started to gather around it and other buildings in the government district of Arciluco. The protests were spontaneous, and seemed to be mostly formed by retirees and students at the beginning, the only ones able to get out and make their voices heard in the morning. Student groups and associations quickly organized themselves on the internet, while organizations of former anti-Equalist revolutionaries made their presence felt too. The press conference organized by the leaders of the Center Front only seemed to inflame the situation, as Ludovic Gorgon's statements that the failure of the vote proved that the government still had popular support were seen as arrogant by many, according to comment sections and forum boards that we have read.

And as the work day ended, things got out of control fast. The numbers of the protesters have swollen way above even the highest estimations of the Central Police, with around 200,000 protesters being present in Arciluco as we speak. Political leaders have refrained from making any comments about the situation, as the Prefect of Arciluco has called for the Central Gendarmerie to send more units in the government district to supervise the protests.

Third Amendment approved by eight voivodeships
Image
Voivodeships approving or disapproving of the amendment

CITY OF ŻOBRODŹ - Following the approval of the Third Amendment by the voivodial legislature in Dolne Pogórze yesterday, the constitution of the Miersan Federation was officially amended, pursuant to section 2a of the constitution, which requires at least eight voivodeships under the control of the Miersan Federation to approve of the constitutional amendment. Thus, President Sylwester Wrzesiński signed the amendment into law.

With the signing of the amendment into law, President Sylwester Wrzesiński said from Żobrodź Castle that "with yesterday's decision by the voivodeship of Dolne Pogórze to pass this bill, the Miersan nation has confirmed the importance of majority rule. This amendment will preserve Miersan democracy, and will prevent a situation like the 2013 coup from taking place again, when a government elected by the minority of Miersans deemed the majoritarian government illegitimate."

"Effective immediately, we are going to appoint 67 new legislators to represent the eastern voivodeships, in order to better represent those living under Kirenian occupation, whether they be farmers, businessmen, students, factory workers, or more importantly, clergymen," Wrzesiński said. "And from the 2021 elections, Miersan citizens living abroad can vote for ten overseas seats, so that they will have a say in the future of the Miersan nation."

"To all who have supported this effort, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, for now, the Miersan Federation reflects a new reality, a just reality, and one where democracy shall be preserved."

Reaction from the opposition
Miersan National Party leader Aleksandra Wojdyla told reporters following Wrzesiński's announcement that "while this is a temporary setback, I am confident that with young people criticising the amendment, with many who see this as a naked power-grab to forever entrench Naprzód rule for the next generation from all parts of the political spectrum, we will triumph over them." She promised that "next year, when we get elected, the first thing I'm doing is repeal the amendment, and encourage the newly-appointed members of the National Assembly to resign or retire, so to help foster the reconstruction of Miersan democracy."

Green parliamentary leader Alicja Pietruszewska also condemned its passage, saying that "the bill forever chains West Miersa to a new Wojdyla dictatorship, where Naprzód will rule without any genuine opposition for at least the next forty years. It also undermines the ability of the voivodeships to respond to local crises, and harms those living far away from Żobrodź and Krada." Pietruszewska also said that she will consider endorsing the MNP candidate in next year's presidential election.

However, Agrarian Party parliamentary leader Bartłomiej Bojanowski told reporters that "while there were some things that we disliked about this bill, we are confident that this bill is in the best interests of the Miersan nation, and will help ease some confusion that I've heard over the years."

Last night's "Foro del Presidente" gave President Francesco Carcaterra two hours of praise and a chance to lie and abuse.
The first ever televised Q&A was short on hard questions and full on praise and adoration.
Giorgio D'Rossi.
24 July 2020

Last night, President Francesco Carcaterra sat down before an audience and the cameras on ARE 1, to answer questions from reporters and ordinary voters. The “Foro del Presidente” lasted for over 2 hours and saw a vast range of questions put to the President.
Image
President Francesco Carcaterra with host Leonardo Di Marco.

Aided by a subservient host and an even more subservient ARE, the President for the most part was lavished with praise by voters, who an overwhelming majority appeared to be Tribune supporters. What “hard questions” were allowed, were offered by reporters and were pre-selected, notably, the government’s ban on abortion was completely ignored, as was its systematic abuse of power, including the censoring of academia on historic war crimes.

Here are a selection of some of those questions:

“In the past year you have improved relations with the Euclean Community compared to incredibly poor relations over 2018. What do you see as the future of the Etrurian-EC relationship?”

The President, smiling said, “warm. There is a mutual understand now, one that works to our mutual benefit. Etruria is not a nation to ignored or sidelined, we have made clear that while we have no interest in the Community as a member, as a partner there is much we can do together. Both Etruria and the EC’s members face the same problems and the same threats, so cooperation over agitation is being adopted by both sides and that is good for them and for us.” He went on to say further, “I think after 2018, they came to see Etruria as too big to ignore or malign, we are a strong country and a proud one, best to have us on side than not. At the same time, there is no reason for us to not support one another, especially when facing the real threats posed by Zorasan and Xiaodong to Euclean civilisation.”
______________________________________________________________________________
“What is it that you and your government want, what is your ultimate goal as some would say its dictatorship, others would say it is to remould the Etrurian state to you and your party’s benefit, what is the end goal?”

“A question we have heard before from your newspaper many times it gave into the absurd and exaggerated. But I will answer nonetheless, what we want, what the Tribune Movement wants is a Etruria that is prosperous, fair and safe for every Etrurian. We want an Etruria that is sure of itself, that is proud and allowed to be proud. We want an Etruria that exists in accordance to its values and principles, a country that isn’t afraid to be traditional. We want an Etruria that delivers education to all, health care to all and guarantees future generations jobs, homes and security. We want a strong Etruria, respected by all nations and feared by its enemies, we want Etruria to be Etruria and Etrurians to be Etrurian” he replied, scoring cheers and applause from the audience.

His reply failed to even mention the worries of dictatorship raised by the question, this would happen two more times later on in the evening. All three answers will do little to assuage the worries of many who are horrified by the backsliding seen under his government.

“I am a proud support of yours Mr. President and have voted for the Tribune Movement at every election it has been on the ballot. But why did the party join into coalition with the National Veratian Party, is it not a bad deal?”

The President said, “I completely understand your disappointment Andrea, I share it as much you do and I know many other supporters of the government do. We tried our absolute best in Il Dogado to win a majority, to control the capital is a natural objective of the national government. However, the electoral system used in the capital is broken, even as the so-called centre-right died there, the system gave too much to the liberal-left who denied us the one seat needed. Now, they [Il Dogado Tribune Movement] could have gone into a minority government, but that would not serve the citizens of the capital true, nothing would get done without having to give ground to the left, who want to turn Povelia into the likes of Faulia. We could not let Povelia be ruined and turned into a cosmopolitan dystopia like the northern cities, with their homeless and woke politics. So we made a choice, we decided to join a party that wants to do good by the capital as much as we do. Do I agree with the PNV’s policies no, do I agree with their regionalism no. But it was signed up with them or lose the most beautiful city in the world to the soulless liberal-left.”

His answer not only contained lies, it contained a now popular conspiracy theory that state-level electoral systems are designed to deny Tribunes majorities, it denies any and all parties majorities because they are based on proportional representation. It is no surprise therefore, that the TM-VNP coalition in Il Dogado has announced plans to adopt first-past-the-post before the next state election.

“Mr. President, what is Etruria’s official policy on the civil war in Tsabara?”

The President replied, “Our policy is relatively simple, we intend to support the unity government in Adunis in maintaining the territorial integrity of the country against what is quite clearly a Zorasan-backed uprising by a faction that is both radical and dangerous. The quicker the government defeats this Zorasani plot to destabilise its neighbour for expansionist reasons the better, so as it stands we are providing the government with vital support including ammunition, humanitarian aid and technical support. A stable Tsabara is a stable Euclea.”

“What does Etruria intend on doing to the refugees seeking asylum here? Are the rumours of the work camps true?” It should be noted that the question is referencing a story posted by L'avviso, in which it claimed the government wants establish camps on the island of San Francesco where asylum seekers who work toward obtaining citizenship.

The president laughed, assumedly at the work camps story which he denied last month, “our policy is the same as set out several months ago, we intend to provide asylum for those of the Sotirian faith. We are a Sotirian country, we are Catholic and it is the Catholic thing to do, but we intend to remain Catholic. The work camps are nonsense, that is lies spread by the left-wing L’avviso, what are we functionalists?.”

Since the government announced its policy on asylum seekers, it would surprise readers to know that only 115 individuals have been granted asylum and while they are all Sotirian Tsabarans, this number is tiny compared to the total number who have fled the war torn nation. As it stands, only 1,590 people have applied for asylum, with most heading toward Montecara or Gaullica. A leaked memo however, from August implied the original policy was a draught, indicating the government may have been lying to inflict further damage on the centre-right Democratic Alternative following the controversial speech by its leader, Pietro Frattoiano.

“Does the electoral success of the PSD in Gaullica concern you that the [Etrurian Left] will receive “boosts”?”

“It is without question that the centre-left is ascendant in Euclea, from Caldia to of course, Gaullica. This are the cycles that define Euclean politics, a cycle our country has broken. As for boosting our own centre-left, maybe this is true, I don’t know. We see the SDP here resurging, fortunately at the expense of the vacuous and nebulous Citizens’ Alliance, but no I don’t worry about this. The SDP is still the same party that has failed the Etrurian voter consistently since 1984. It is still the same party that prostrates itself before wokeism and the so-called global elite, who promise the same and deliver nothing just the same. I am not concerned; the SDP is still a horrible mess”

“I am a veteran of the Etrurian Army and I believe you are the best leader this country has had since I don’t know when. I am forever in awe of your government for passing the Veteran Protection Act, which prohibits civil or criminal prosecution against every Etrurian military veteran. I ask, will you continue supporting the military with funding and increases in size?”

The president smiled and patted his chest where heart sits, “thank you Milan for your great service to our nation. And yes, we will forever support our armed forces, they represent the best of Etruria, both in its people and its history and traditions. I assure you that the defence budget will increase in line with inflation and GDP growth and of course we remain set on securing 385,000 personnel active and reserve for the ground forces, as well as modernising the navy and air force, we are committed to defence. The world is a safer place when Etruria possesses great national strength.”

“I will add this, we got in just in time to stop the centre-right’s pathetic and cowardly decision to scrap our aircraft carrier, we saved it because we are a nation tied to the Solarian Sea. We are a nation that has produced great maritime, great maritime states. We are the heirs to the Solarian Empire, the Povelian Republic and such. We bring order to the Solarian Sea, when we face an Irfanic power that seeks to rule the seas to kill Euclea. We have duties to the islands in the Solarian Sea, we need to protect them and we need a strong navy, the world needs a strong Etruria at sea.”

“Mr. President, your support for farmers saved me and my family from giving up our farm, I ask, will you continue to support farmers?”

“Yes absolutely [Giorgio], we will. Farmers are an integral part of this nation’s landscape and workforce, what would Etruria be without its farmers? For one we would be dependent on foreigners for our food, and I don’t want our country to beholden for food from the likes of Xiaodong, Zorasan or indeed any country. I can assure you, the tax credits and energy subsidies will continue as long as we are in government, we will have your backs” the president replied.

“Mr. President we have seen a dramatic fall in crime under your government, many say it is because you instituted the minimum mandatory sentences, do you agree with that is it or something else?”

“Well, it is many things, the minimum mandatory sentencing where murderers for instance get 40 years minimum is a great deterrence, especially for those who kill for profit or whatever. But backing our law enforcement, federalising it was a great move, a necessary move. We have all policing under our control, which helps a lot considering some states are utterly cowardly before crime because they believe in rehabilitation. You can’t rehabilitate a paedophile, you can’t rehabilitate a mafia patsy, you punish them. We see a decline in crime because we treat criminals as they should be treated, not like the left, who want to kiss them and cuddle them in hopes they get nice warm feelings and behave, nonsense that is” the president replied.

“Mr. President the Famiglia+ programme your government introduced has already reportedly lifted 1.5 million people out of poverty, are there any other plans to support young married families?”

“The Famiglia+ programme has been a resounding success for young Etrurian married families. They are the writers of our future and ensuring they’ve got extra money in their pocket, to send their children to school or to university is a way of guaranteeing not only these traditional families are ready to build up our country, but they’re able to feel safe financially, to train themselves or do what needs to be done to get better jobs. Family is the most important institution in this country, the Etrurian family, the father, mother and children constitute the bedrock of our society, we all live in big families and we love our families. Without the family, Etruria is empty and so we will always protect our families.

“As for more support, we are planning on introducing healthcare reforms that will provide free coverage for all illnesses and issues for those who fall under Famiglia+, we are introducing debt forgiveness for young families that owe tuition debt and we will be introducing tax credits for young families who fall below certain income brackets, alongside Famiglia+. Look, this government is the government of the Etrurian family, we are the government that is preserving and protecting our traditions, that have carried through the darkest of times in the past. No other government in Euclea is as pro-family as we are today, none. If you want to raise a family with Sotirian values, good traditional principles, of respect, dignity, obedience and hard work, Etruria is the place.”

“Mr Carcaterra, I am a Miruvian but I truly believe you are the best for Etruria. I have voted tribune for as long as I can remember. However, I experience racism from my fellow Etrurians; this is making me reconsider whether or not if I should support you. What do you say to these hateful supporters of yours?”

“First I would like to say thank you for your support, every vote matters and every voice matters to me and to the Tribune Movement. When we come together as a society, when we unite in a common cause we achieve the unachievable and beat the unbeatable. When Miruvians such as yourself come together with us, this helps a long way in doing that. But not all Miruvians come with the rest of Etruria, not all Miruvians are good patriots such as yourself, and really, that causes resentment.

“I would say that you are a role model, you should be proud of your support for our great endeavour. More Miruvians that come with us as we build a proud Etruria the better and I can assure you, disagreements and resentments will go away.”

“There has been some concerns that your administration has been undermining democratic institutions in the country through press censorship, electoral majoritarian and harassing the opposition. Is your government committed to the rule of law and liberal democracy?”

“Look, these concerns are nonsense and really, the worries of an establishment that has abused and used the Etrurian people for decades. We don’t censor the press; we’ve restored patriotism to it. Majoritarian politics is democracy, we answer to the majority and its wishes, that’s not evil, that’s democracy, the people are the power, and a majority is their power. We have empowered the Etrurian people, we have pushed back the Poteri Oscuri, they don’t dictate no more.

“And I want evidence we harass the opposition, what evidence do you have? We’re not Xiaodong or Zorasan who kill the opposition, throw them in some hole somewhere to rot. And I will say this, we restored the rule of law in Etruria, before we came, the judges, the courts were as criminal as those before them. We have restored justice to the country, we abide by the law because we are the ones fixing the law. Before we came, the left and the so-called right would abuse their office and power, look at Reali and his government, it was ponzi scheme the whole affair. No more, we have restored the rule of law, it is safe in Etruria.”

“The state-government in San Francesco has proposed turning the island into an LGBT Free Zone, is this something you would champion for all states for Etruria?”

“What the state governments do in relation to their states is not really a matter for the federal government, unless of course those policies are in direct contravention of federal policies. As for championing it, the states can see, they are not cut off from one another. If other states of the Federation want to pursue this, then that is their constitutional right. Whether it works in protecting Etrurian life, Etrurianita, that is to be seen. But you know, we are a Sotirian country, a Catholic country, the most loyal to the Mother Church, look at the First Republic, our Republic of Heaven, we are a religious country and we want to live in accordance to the Catechism and the laws of God as proscribed by Sotirias our saviour. Whether the liberal-left states, the ones that love foreigners more than their own citizens, those states that hate Etruria because its not what they want it to be, a soft, woke paradise where everything is permitted and nothing is true… I don’t know we shall see, but its for the states to decide how they defend tradition.”

Analysis

Well, after two hours of mostly sickly praise and adoration being lavished on the leader of the most right-wing government since the Solarian War, we learnt nothing. We learnt nothing about why the Tribunes are backsliding our democracy at rocket speed, we learnt nothing about how the government has crippled the free press at the regional level and we learnt nothing on whether they even realise that they're destroying democracy and freedom in this country. For months now we have been watching the Tribune base take anything and everything as gospel, no matter how vague or ficticious it is. There was no question on reports that the government's Tsabaran refugee policy is a complete lie, no question on whether rumours of Etrurian military forces being sent to aid the Nazim government are true and we learnt nothing on whether the rumours of torture and abuse in Etrurian prisons is being investigated or even recognised. There was no question on whether the government is using the Civil Security Service to harrass opposition politicians, even after the Prefect of Chiastre, Emmanuele Angrisani had reported that his summer residence had been messed with. And that answer on the horrifying LGBT Free Zones, what the hell was that? And yes, the old trope that Miruvians are mistreated because they ask for it, or because they're not Etrurian enough.

If anything the two hours painted a picture of Tribune Etruria that is coming into view, authoritarian, cruel, racist, homophobic and centred around one man. Granted Carcaterra still talks like a history professor and doesn't nose dive into the dirt like some of his cabinet ministers, but behind the wordy answers is right-wing demagogue who sees tradition as the be all of Etrurian life. A man who believes that patriotism is the measure to which assess someone and an ultra-nationalist who talks about Mare Nostrum and the islands within them. It was a sad two hours and we will surely see "Foro del Presidente" grace our screens again.

Konstantine Introduces New Comprehensive Tax Plan

Tsivebi - Premier Konstantine Sakandelidze has announced a major restructuring to the current taxation formula which will go into effect at the end of the year if passed. It proposes a new bracketing system for much of the population as well as a variety of new business taxes. This tax reform has been received as widely popular by most of the Social Democrats but has received a harsh reception by other parties along with harsh criticism from abroad.

Premier Konstantine stood in front of Congress early this morning to reopen it for the new session, normally this is conducted by the Speaker of the Congress, normally the current leader of the leading party in Congress. While he announced the beginning of this session of Congress he also would go on to introduce his bill the, “Sakandelidze Tax Reform Act '' bypassing the Committee of Weights and Means and bringing it directly to Congress to be debated then voted on.

Soon after he opened the floor for questions and was immediately bombarded by questions regarding the bill along with shouts, jeers and boos from the Vedmed United Party. This would continue for much of the day even during breaks as Congress closed for the day with it being hotly debated for the majority of the day.

The bill itself brings about a complete and comprehensive reform to the much outdated tax system that has changed little since Vedmed was a constituent republic of Narozalica. It establishes a new tax system for income of that of tax brackets for incomes ranging from that of the lowest income of a mere four thousand Lari to the highest income of multi billion Lari. With those in the highest tax brackets expected to be taxed the most with those in the bottom the least. The tax system is top heavy and slowly trickles down with lower percentages to be paid as the amount of income a household gets decreases. This is one of the few parts of the Premier’s tax reforms that has not been openly criticized by the VUP.

In conjunction with this several new taxes were to be implemented in Vedmed such as a flat tax for all Corporations set at five percent believing this to be fair but also not to deter businesses from operating in Vedmed. This part of the Tax reform has received the most of the criticism from the VUP and many other members from Congress.

There is to be a slight increase of taxes on alcohol and tobacco to be part of the Premier’s plan to increase the general health of the public. This comes shortly after the announcement by the Premier to promote a healthy Vedmedi lifestyle.

Overall several members of Congress not just from the VUP but as well as from the SD have openly criticized the tax plan.

Eduard Machutadze, the former Premier, himself said “This tax reform will do nothing but begin to turn us from the traditional conservative business oriented nation we are, to an Eastern Euclean puppet begging for scraps.” His sentiments were shared by many throughout the VUP and some Congress members apart of the SDs. Despite this he did receive praise mostly from his fellow party members and some Independents.

This introduction of the bill has been met with much foreign skepticism though preferring anonymity we have withheld their statements and identities.

Ravnia National News

Ravnia to Increase Size of Nuclear Energy Department.

Novigrad - In a recent parliamentary session, the National Conservative Front (NCF) majority approved of a series of legislation that would see the activation of two new nuclear power plants in southern Ravinia. This legislation would also see to the expansion of Ravnias sole nuclear energy plant. The construction of the new nuclear plants is predicted to cost between $12-$18 billion, with each plant individually costing between $6-$8 billion. These nuclear plants will be able to produce a total of 1,100 megawatts of energy each. This easily puts these plants above all of Ravnias non renewable energy energy sources such as oil and coal, as well as putting these plants ahead of Ravnias wind and solar energy departments. This legislation was approved by President Pyotr and is due to take effect next month. Members of the Ravnian Socialist Front have been stating their disapproval of the legislation since its ratification, with one RSF MP stating that:

Nuclear energy should not be Ravnias source of clean energy. It's extremely expensive, not to mention that these nuclear plants will create large amounts of nuclear waste. We should be focused on improving solar and wind energy, not growing nuclear energy.

When asked what he thought about the remarks made by the RSF, president Pyotr stated:

While it is true that nuclear energy will produce radioactive waste, the benefits of nuclear energy far outweigh this negative factor. We’re looking at a no emissions energy source that produces more energy than all of our current fossil fuels. This will allow us to cut back on fossil fuels and make the environment a cleaner place.

On top of the president's remarks, the NCF released an official statement regarding the passing of the legislation.

Regarding the recent legislation calling for the expansion of our nuclear energy department, we (the NCF parliament majority) believe that nuclear energy is the way forward for Ravnia. Despite the words of the opposition (the RSF), this government will continue to support the maintenance and expansion of Ravnias nuclear energy program.

FORMER AURATIAN PRESIDENT REPRESENTS GIFA IN BAIQIAO
Raul Fonseca, who served as Auratia's president from 2008 - 2015, heads the Global Institute for Fiscal Affairs

BAIQIAO — Raul Fonseca is representing the Global Institute for Fiscal Affairs, or GIFA, which he has led as its chief director since 2018. An economist by training, Fonseca was previously president of Auratia from 2008 to 2015.

Fonseca, whose full name is Jesús Raul Fonseca de Santos, was born in Villadad, San Esteban. His father, Felipe Fonseca, was a car salesman while his mother, Maria de Santos, was a school administrator. After graduating from Enrico Pía Gymnasium, Fonseca attended the University of Puerto del Rey (UPuerto) and studied economics. Upon attaining a bachelor's degree in business management and economics from UPuerto and courting his future wife Bia Freire, Fonseca pursued a doctorate in economics from the University of Warminster in 1956.

Following his education, Fonseca became a fellow at the University of Warminister and returned to Auratia to teach economics at UPuerto specializing in macroeconomics and monetary policy. During his professorship, Fonseca was an early advocate of robust monetary policy to drive down the inflation rate. As a professional economist, Fonseca provided formal advice to the federal government's Finance ministry and later the Commonwealth Bank, Auratia's chief monetary institution. He joined the Liberal Party. During the Auratian economic crisis in 1981, Fonseca served as an advisor to then-Governor Jaume Yáñez. Fonseca clashed with Yáñez, and he later privately advocated for the governor's ouster from the Commonwealth Bank. Fonseca was considered for a position on the Commonwealth Bank's Board of Directors, but reportedly declined in order to continue his teaching role.

In 1987, Fonseca became the leader of UPuerto's Economics Department. In that position, he criticized then-business minister Matias Hernandes's restructuring policies in op-eds published by La Manco. Fonseca was created the president of UPuerto in 1996. In 2008, the term of President Mario de Saffi was coming to an end. Candidates for president, who is elected by the governors of Auratia's eight states on the nomination of the Senate, were polarizing. Fearing that a president may not be chosen by 2 April, de Saffi's last day in office, Geatish Premier Walter García proposed Fonseca as a compromise candidate. It is not uncommon for academics to become Auratian presidents; de Saffi was himself a professor of history tenured at the University of Spalgleann. The Senate agreed and Fonseca became Auratia's president on 5 April 2015.

As Auratia's ceremonial head of state, Fonseca collaborated with Liberal Premier Walter García and later his successor the Sotirian Federation leader Germán del Caserío. Fonseca attracted some controversy when he reportedly bad-mouthed Premier García, calling him "brutish" and "rude." As president he was more detached from day-to-day governance than most of his predecessors, declining to attend political and economic summits. Fonseca left the presidency in 2015 when his non-renewable term ran out.

After his presidency, Fonseca returned to the University of Warminster where he taught an introductory economics course. He was selected to succeed Marcus Clyde as GIFA's chief director in 2017. As GIFA's leader, Fonseca has responded to criticism of a lack of transparency by mandating that thorough reports be published on the organization's bilateral and multilateral relief agreements. Fonseca has criticized what he has termed GIFA's "rabid austerity policies," and has instituted an internal review of GIFA policy. Just recently, Fonseca oversaw GIFA aid to the Maracao following the Sangue Eruption.

The Auratian government has expressed support for Fonseca. In a written statement, Premier Germán del Caserío said that he was "optimistic about Fonseca's role in steering global economic policy." The premier also expressed hope that Fonseca would "keep the interests and needs of nations like Auratia in his heart."

Opposition leader Cristián Canez of the Liberal Party praised the former president. "Chief Director Fonseca has been an excellent leader at [GIFA]. I have full confidence in him," Canez said to La Manco reporters.

Fonseca's agenda as GIFA director has not been released, but sources familiar with the matter believe that Fonseca will focus on the growing economic divide between developed and developing nations. In a working paper GIFA published in 2019, Fonseca lamented that emerging economies in Coius were not growing as fast as the developed economies in Euclea and Asteria Superior. Fonseca described this economic stagnation as "possibly the greatest calamity economists must face in the 21st century."

Garambura's Euclovision "final five"
It is the first all-Bahian ensemble in the country's history, and it represents a musical shift towards black independent artists in Garambura.

Ahead of the final selection process in two weeks' time, we introduce you to the cinq final that wish to represent Garambura at next year's Euclovision competition in Gaullica. Clockwise, they are:

Jean-Michel Takawira
Born: Clavies, Mambiza, Garambura
Song: "Croirez"

The first of three acts hailing from the expansive Garamburan metropole, Jean-Michel Takawira aims to bring soul, blues and R&B back into the Garamburan mainstream with his traditional-inspired blues creation "Croirez". The unmistakable and infectious guitar and traditional drums and percussion that make the bulk of this song is impossible to ignore, and one that is sure to get audiences moving if Takawira makes it to Gaullica for the 2020 competition.

He enjoyed a strong performance in the third round and collected 15.7% of the audience vote with his remarkable live performance of Croirez on the set of CMM 1's live performances of the third round, and he will be looking to carry that momentum into the final round.

Tamai XXX
Born: Rambakudzihwa, Mambiza, Garambura
Song: "Intentionnellement"

Another artist hailing from Mambiza, Tamai XXX undoubtedly represents the young and experimental side of Garambura's independent music scene. Often described as Garambura's first LGBT breakthrough act, Tamai is known for elaborate and exquisite makeup designs and his brash, eye-catching costumes that have come to define his famous live performances. Off the back of his popular debut album 1, Intentionnellement sends a harsh message that Tamai is not here to conform to industry standards.

Tamai received the highest vote share of the third round, with 18.6%, and also impressed the ten-man jury that will ultimately provide the pivotal votes to advance to the contest in 2021. Things are looking positive for Tamai, however, securing the commendations of his colleagues after his performance at the CMM 1 contest.

Magali Breguet
Born: Thorailles, Sylvagne, Gaullica
Song: "Tout est gore"

The only female artist of the final five, and coincidentally also the only rapper of the five, Magali Breguet will look to put on a show as she bides for a return to her home country. Moving from Thorailles to Garambura in 2007, Breguet has since exploded onto the Garamburan rap scene, one of the most expansive music industries in Coius. Her videos, often filmed in abandoned, ornate buildings, represent the bleaker side of an impoverished upbringing in Gaullica, and she explores the notion of "climbing the ranks" from the perspective of a young and bloodthirsty gang member in the Euclean country.

Breguet enjoys most of her popularity from a younger audience, who enjoy her in-your-face lyricism and her adrenaline-packed, fast-paced beats, while enjoying the smallest vote share of the five (10.7%), she will look to wow the audience with her spectacular live performance of Tout est gore in two weeks' time.

Musafare Isheanasu Kumbula
Born: New Mina, Garambura
Song: Ouaïd 'Ala

By far the oldest of the five, the 63-year-old guitarist from rural New Mina was born back when the city was a mere shadow of its current self. The only Irfanic member of the five, Kumbula describes his rural influences and looks to his father when he reminisces on discovering his love for the guitar. Kumbula returns to his traditional roots with the Badawiyan-Gaullican hybrid Ouaïd 'Ala, where he celebrates his adoration for Khoda and his religion.

Recorded initially in an abandoned rural shack some 10 miles from New Mina, Kumbula's domestic folk track was recorded as he retreated into Garambura for over a year, which he described as a "spiritual and cultural awakening" and hoped that his music would inspire the same in his audience. Kumbula received 15.9% of the audience vote during the third round, and is looking a strong candidate to represent Garamburan folk at the upcoming Euclovision competition.

Nashe Nkube
Born: Cossonnais, Mambiza, Garambura
Song: "Karamabhuti"

No man can be construed as the arbiter of the Garamburan jazz revival than Mambiza-based saxophonist Nashe Nkube, whose intense and tradition-infused jazz pieces have seen him earn the moniker of the "modern Zimba Touré". His 2020 hit Karamabhuti, a portmanteau of the words Karame and Mabhuti, is the song he selected to enter the Euclovision draw with, and it has seen astounding success so far and is easily the most successful jazz composition in the competition's selection history. While Nkube records most of his music in his native veRwizi language, Karamabhuti is an entirely instrumental performance, which qualifies for Euclovision performance.

Nkube garnered 20.1% of the third round vote and is many listener's favourite to progress through to the competition. It goes without saying that Garambura is certainly in strong hands should Nkube be the one chosen to represent the country in front of the world's eyes.

President Iskinder announces official name change to 'Irfanic Republic of Yemet'

October 27th, 2020 | By Alemu Assi

Image
President Retta Iskinder reading the law to the People's Congress

In a move that was promised during his 2015 Electoral Campaign, President Retta Iskinder has made good on his promise to officially change Yemet's name from the Republic of Yemet to the Irfanic Republic of Yemet in a move that has been called for by conservative Irfanic groups since the end of the National Salvation Government in 1997 and the creation of the Republic of Yemet. The name change, in a speech delivered to the People's Congress upon the declaration, 'recognises the removal of a neocolonial Euclean attempt to impose a regime upon the peoples of Yemet by denying them the right to determine the very name of their own country.'

Although only the changing of the official name of the country with no impact upon the laws of the country, Sotirian groups in the eastern regions of the country have held protests outside governmental buildings, decrying the name change as 'the first step to erase Sotirians from the nation', according to the Bishop of Taga, Ochola Ouko, in a speech delivered to his congregation. Sotirian Congressman Jonathan Lukwiya has likewise issued a similar protest, stating that "The name change does not recognise that Yemet is not an Irfanic state. It is a state of both Sotirians and Irfanics, and I urge my fellow Sotirians to watch the actions of the president with great wariness. A name change may be harmless, but so is the thunder before the storm."

By comparison, the Irfanic populace in the President's home city of Tiruta were home to scenes of celebration, with the Congressman for the city, Otem Aigo, declaring that "Yemet was denied the realisation of an Irfanic Republic reflecting the democratic will of her people by the Eucleans, and a great wrong against the people of Yemet has today been righted by the President. I can only hope that this is the first step towards the implementation of Irfanic religious law into the law of the nation, as was always intended."

Yet not all of the country's Irfanic populace has been quite so jubilant of the change of name. Adama Abuo, Negus of the Okomo People, has warned that "this change of name, while purely symbolic, signals that the government of the President seeks to undermine and degrade the 1997 Accords that have delivered twenty years of peace after twenty years of strife to this country" and that "the government should concern itself less with such minor changes, however symbolic, and instead devote itself to promoting the development of the country."

The change is believed to come as an attempt to further rally and solidify support from the President's largely Irfanic and conservative voter base in the run-up to the elections next year. Whether the President will stop at a change of the country's name, or whether he will attempt to further implement Irfanic law into the official legal system of the country, and if he does, how far he will implement it or whether he will instead attempt to undermine the power-sharing arrangements created under the 1997 Accords that have given the office of Speaker of the People's Congress and a set number of Cabinet and Congress seats to Sotirians to be elected on separate lists.
