Holidays
There are two major civic holidays in Great Nortend. These are Whit Monday and Michaelmas.

Whit Monday is celebrated as the King's Day, and is a day of patriotism focussed on nationalism amongst Erbonian subjects towards the King and Fatherland. Whit Monday church services are a strong tradition, with special texts for the day. It is also the de facto day for confirming children, which in Great Nortend carries with it the extra significance insofar as children swear the oath of liegance immediately prior. After the noon Mass, large processions and parades are ubiquitous where patriotic songs are sung. The largest is in the middle of Lendert-with-Cadell, on Edcheap Square, where nearly 200,000 people assemble each year with 100,000 soldiers in a massive parade through the city. The King also gives an annual speech on Whit Monday at this parade, which is read out across the country.

Michaelmas is New Year's day, and is celebrated as a day of thanksgiving for the harvest and the year focussed on loyalty to one's community as symbolised by the local harvest. After the noon Mass, where a “St. Michael” is crowned with a garland crown, there is usually a parade around the village, town or borough led by “St. Michael”. Though it is ostensibly a harvest festival, in urban areas the focus is generally more on the town or city's institutions, such as the mayor and council, guilds, schools, police constabulary, firemen, cadets and military units. The local feudal lords, yeomen husbandmen, farmers and farm labourers play a large role in the countryside, although the elements of local pride are still evident. Annually the King visits a different locality for the Michaelmas Parade.

Eugenics laws
Great Nortend under the government of Sir Henry de Foide passed the Public Health Act in 1946, in an attempt to improve public health and reduce the burden of hereditary diseases on the population. Under the Act, measures must be taken by the Lord High Almoner to reduce the incidence of certain genetic diseases classified as “serious” or “of concern”, through educational, financial, legal and physical measures. Genetic testing may be mandated to determine the likelihood of passing on genetic diseases. Additionally, financial incentives include a grant of up to £1,000 in return for abstinence from reproduction, or fines of up to £1,000 for giving birth to more than one child. For serious cases where there is no voluntary agreement of chastity, forced sterilisation may be ordered by a court to prevent reproduction.

Generally, however, the majority of persons with heritable genetic diseases are happy to forego reproduction as the financial incentives for doing so are significant. Furthermore, depending on the severity of their illness, they are fast-tracked to be able to adopt children. They also generally will receive fully subsidised medical care. For the rest of the population, there are financial incentives for giving birth to only two children, which entitles families to receive a grant of £250 per child, as well as access to fully subsidised medical care. Any further children entail financial fines and loss of full subsidy of medical expenses.

What music does your leader generally listen to? Her job requires calm, so she generally just leaves the radio on a “Mix” station while working.
Does your leader play an instrument? Yes
If he/she does play an instrument, then which one? Electric Guitar
If he/she does play an instrument, is your leader particularly skilled at it? Incredibly, but she never has time to practice anymore.

Anything noteworthy related to your leader and music: In her rebellious phase, she was in a band called the Double Diamonds. This lives on in the rare event the whole family assembles to perform as a band called the Black Diamonds.

Is the Military as institution viewed positively or negatively by the public (and which groups view it positively/negatively)?
The militias of Kashimura are integral and viewed positively by most, but some minority groups of radicals are well against them.

Are officers viewed positively or negatively?
Positively for the most part.

What qualities are officers viewed as having?
Confidence, Intelligence, and Intuition. You need all three to achieve an officer rank.

Are soldiers viewed positively or negatively?
Positively for the most part.

What qualities are soldiers viewed as having?
Depends on what branch is being questioned. The average soldier is supposed to be resourceful and skilled as seen by the people, but the guards outside the Aristocratic Quarter are intentionally the bottom percentile of soldiers to appear amicable and benign.

How does the Miltary influence society?
The shell of a military academy was recycled postwar into one of the foremost educational institutes and military academies in the Empire, creating the integration of military and civilian life in the modern era. Military jobs are as casually studied for as any other occupation.

How does society influence the Military?
Because the aforementioned academy is integrated and K-16, and its population is so high, a common point of contention is relationships: Military personnel are forbidden from forming romantic relationships as not to invite the possibility of illicit “supersoldier eugenics”. This limitation can be difficult, however, when dealing with men and women who have known each other since childhood.

Are there any festivals linked to the Military?
Unification Day (Tōitsu no Hi) is celebrated with varying levels of enthusiasm depending on your nation of origin, but celebrates victory in all wars and involves a parade. It is the day of the latest full moon of June.

Is the grading scale the same throughout your nation?
In Kashimura, yes.

If so, what is the grading scale in schools throughout your nation?
Kashimuran education is scored on the Hachi Kaikyuu (Eight Ranks) system, similar to the standard five letter system used in many human schools. Despite this name, there are more than eight possible letter grades, and not all of them are actually letters. Some may add the ± for intermediate percentiles halfway between letters.
N: No Score - Exempt due to inability to complete assignment/course (Hospitalization/Medical, Transfer, Withdrawal, etc.).
J: 0% - Immediate failure criteria met (Poor Conduct, Cheating, etc.).
F: 0% - 50%
E: 50% - 60%
D: 60% - 70%
C: 70% - 80%
B: 80% - 90%
A: 90% - 100%
☆: 100% - 150%
☆☆: 150% - 200%
☆☆☆: 200% - 300%
While it is technically possible to achieve star ranks by extra credit alone, this scale is usually reserved for the royal family, whose education is more intense due to special circumstances. Within the realm of the crown, grades below C are failing. Alternative stars may be used depending on the teacher, so long as there is a clear escalation.

If not, then what are the different grading scales used in your nation?
N/A

What would your citizens do?
An elderly person being unable to afford medication: Medication is free for over-65s.
A young teenager being unable to afford medication: Medication is free for full-time students under 18.
A homeless (or poor) person abused by a rich person or several rich people: The rich person would most likely be verbally berated or publicly shamed, and the victim would receive help depending on how badly they were abused. Don't be surprised if people try to restrain the aggressor(s).
A rich person abused by a homeless person or several homeless people: Practically the same as before.
A homosexual person abused by others because of their sexual preferences: Most of the time, others would just tell the aggressor(s) to leave them alone. If the abuse persists or becomes physical, a fight will definitely break out.
A heterosexual person abused by others because of their sexual preferences: Many people jokingly mock heterosexuality, but in the case of abuse? Probably the same as before.
A child bullied by other children in school grounds for a particular reason (e.g. wearing pink): Other students may intervene, but teachers kinda suck at dealing with bullying.
A child bullied by others for no particular reason, or because it seemed fun to pick on the child: Same as before.
An adult steals the wallet, smartphone, or any property of value (or contains something value) of another person: They'll definitely get chased down. Not much more will happen, unless you're in St. Tristian...
An elderly steals the wallet, smartphone, or any property of value (or contains something value) of another person: Same as before. No excuses, boomer.
A child steals the wallet, smartphone, or any property of value (or contains something value) of another person: Same as before. No excuses, kiddo.
A pregnant woman denied abortion before the second trimester: Well, that's just plain discriminatory. Women are legally allowed to abort before the second trimester.
A pregnant woman denied abortion during or after the second trimester, or when the woman is very close to giving birth: During/after the second trimester, a woman can only abort if the fetus carries significant emotional/physical harm to itself or the mother. It's not unusual for abortion to be denied.
A foreign tourist/couple visits your country and acts rudely or does something that is considered rude in your country's culture(s): Everyone will tell you to act normal or to shut up. It's extremely annoying when foreign tourists are plain disrespectful. Joijans don't tolerate it.
A tourist/couple from your country visits another country and acts rudely or does something that is considered rude in that country's culture(s): Don't come crying to us when you're banned from a certain country. We don't care. ;)
