Full Nation Name: Kingdom of Ingavonia (Ingavonian: Köningrejk Ingævoniën)
Majority/Official: Ingavonian (a mix between German and Dutch) with a significant amount of Polish, Lithuanian, Frisian, Limburgish, Prussian (OTL German), Hollander (OTL Dutch), Kashubian, Sorbian, Danish, Yiddish (Jewish), Sahrawi, Khoisan and Bantu
Territorial Core: North Germany (without Belgium, Luxembourg and parts of the Rhine), Netherlands, Namibia (without the Caprivi Strip), Coastal Angola, Coastal Cameroon and Western Sahara (what's left of it)
Territorial Claim: Swabia (golden or dark yellow on the map), Austria, Flanders, Brussels, Alsace-Lorraine, Eastern Belgium (Eupen-Malmedy), Northern Schleswig, Western Belarus, Baltics and more African colonies
Capital City: Ijzenstad (Berlin, Germany)
Population: 46,104,100
Map Color: Lavender

Government Type: Unitary Semi-Constitutional Monarchy
Government Ideology/Policies: Nationalism, Monarchism, Traditionalism and Expansionism
Government Focus: National unity, economic growth, territorial expansion and military buildup
Head of State: Köning Frederik III (he is not like our Frederick III)
Head of Government: Rejkskanzler Jorgen von Baltke
Government Description: The King (Köning) holds a huge amount of executive power, despite the fact that Ingavonia has now both a constitution and an equally executive Chancelllor (Rejkskanzler or just Kanzler). The King can both appoint and dismiss the Chancellor, command the military, represent the country in its foreign affairs and even dissolve the Rejkstag, while the Chancellor has the same power as a Prime Minister (albeit hierarchally below the King), which includes being in charge of both a cabinet and various government policies (except for both military and foreign affairs). The Rejkstag can veto a royal decree by a 75% majority. Any legislation is written into law by the King, although his approval is needed.

Majority/State Religion: Protestantism
Religious Description: Other religions in Ingavonia include Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, traditional African religion and even irreligion.

Economic Ideologies: State Capitalism
Major Production: Coal, steel, fish, chemicals, agricultural goods and heavy machinery
Economic Description: Ingavonia has an influential market economy that is largely controlled by the government. It gets most of its major products from the colonies, while some of them are found in the homeland itself. The Rejksmark (ℛℳ) is the country's official currency.

Development: Modern
Development Description: Ingavonia is filled with modern towns, roads and factories. However, some parts of the country are still rural and the colonies are somewhat semi-modern. The government is now determined to improve and expand the country's infrastructure.

Army Description: The Royal Army (Köningliske Hær) is the land military of Ingavonia. It is led by the Supreme Army Command (Operste Hæreslejtung) and is organized into field armies, corps, divisions, regiments, battalions, companies, platoons and squads. The Royal Army is made up of well-equipped troops and seemingly aristocratic officers. The Royal Army currently has 500,000 troops. The Gewær 88 is the standing-issue rifle. Being a mixed force, the Royal Army is made up of both conscripts and volunteers. The Royal Army also follows a strict code that is similar to the "Prussian virtues".
Army Weakness: Despite having well-equipped troops and strict discipline, the Royal Army is rife with many issues, such as its officers being mostly aristocrats and also prefering to attack enemy forces based on size.
Naval Description: The Royal Navy (Köningliske Marine) is the naval military of Ingavonia. It is led by the Supreme Navy Command (Operste Marineslejtung) and consists of warships, frigates, corvettes and gunboats. The Royal Navy is made up of both skilled sailors and skilled officers. The AGC has 25,000 personnel and is divided into two fleets. These fleets are the Baltic Fleet (Baltiske Vlotte) and the Atlantic Fleet (Atlantiske Vlotte). Each fleet is commanded by an Admiral and a Vice Admiral. Being a mixed force, the Royal Navy is made up of both conscripts and volunteers. It also maintains a group of naval infantrymen, although there are only a few infantrymen within the force. The Royal Navy is also more meritocratic than the Royal Army (whose officer corps is very aristocratic).
Naval Weakness: The Royal Navy has only a few infantrymen and defending the colonies can be an issue (thus the Army is more better at defending colonies).
Further Military Description: Interservice rivalry between the Army and the Navy is prevalent, mainly due to the former being aristocratic and the latter being meritocratic.

National Goals: Strengthen the economy, enlarge the military, maintain social stability and gain more territories
National Issues: France, Swabia, Tatarstan, Britain, Scandinavia, Triple Monarchy, interservice rivalry and a few overseas territories
National Figures of Interest: Duke Ingvar of Schleswig (founder), King Arnolf I (aka "Arnolf the Unbeaten"), King Arnolf II (aka "Arnolf the Wise"), King Frederik I (aka "Frederik the Great"), King Jorgen Vilhelm, King Frederik Vilhelm and King Frederik II (aka "Frederik the Enlightened")
National Ambition/Aspirations: To turn Ingavonia into a powerful great power (culturally, economically, territorially and militarily).

History:
  • 918 - Lying on his deathbed, King Conrad the Younger persuades his younger brother Eberhard III to offer the royal crown to Duke Ingvar of Schleswig, who also happens to be one of his principal opponents, since he considered Ingvar to be the only duke capable of holding East Francia together in the face of both internal rivalry between dukes and the continuous Magyar raids.
  • 919 - Duke Ingvar of Schleswig is crowned King of East Francia at the Reichstag of Fritzlar. Kingship now changed from Franks to what would eventually become "Ingavonians".
  • 922 - Having just ruling East Francia for three years, Ingvar officially renames East Francia to Ingavonia. At the same time, this new kingdom invades and captures parts of the Netherlands.
  • 940 - Ingvar dies and is succeeded by his son Edvin, thus creating the House of Ingvar. Around this time, Ingavonia begins to invade northwestern Poland.
  • 942 - Ingavonia captures northwestern Poland and also manages to end the Magyar raids.
  • 1100s - Ingavonia captures the rest of the Netherlands.
  • 1192 - The Teutonic Order is formed and begins vying for land, which puts it at odds with Ingavonia.
  • 1220s - Ingavonia begins to experience internal strife as vassal lords starts to operate independently from royal authority and even try secede from Ingavonia. Corruption runs rampant and King Ervin is unfortunaly too weak to do anything.
  • 1225 - The Ingavonian royal court hires a mercenary group led by the famed "Arnolf the Unbeaten" as a last resort against the independent lords. The War of the Renegade Lords occurs.
  • 1230 - The War of the Renegade Lords ends with royal victory and the independent lords are brought back into submission to the House of Ingvar, while order returns to the country. As a reward, Ervin elects Arnolf to serve as King Arnolf I of Ingavonia, which doesn't sit well with his son Prince Arvid.
  • 1232 - Prince Arvid starts to rebel against King Arnolf I in order to gain rightful control of Ingavonia.
  • 1233 - Prince Arvid's rebellion is crushed and he is exiled for good.
  • 1255 - The city of Köningsberg (modern-day Kaliningrad) is established by the Teutonic Order.
  • 1260 - King Arnolf I dies and is succeeded by his son Vernolf.
  • 1360s - Ingavonia goes to war with the Teutonic Order due to territorial ambitions.
  • 1372 - The Teutonic Order loses Pomerelia and much of Prussia to Ingavonia.
  • 1410s - The Teutonic Order starts to crumble due to minimal territorial losses to the Polish-Bohemian Commonwealth, thus Ingavonia sees an opportunity to eliminate the Teutonic Order for good, although covertly.
  • Late 1420s - King Arnolf II (aka "Arnolf the Wise") forces the Teutonic Order into an alliance with Ingavonia.
  • 1454 - Start of the Thirteen Years' War between the Teutonic Order and the Polish-Bohemian Commonwealth, by which Ingavonia tries to aid the Teutonic Order.
  • 1466 - The Thirteen Years' War ends with Commonwealth victory, thus the Commonwealth turns the Teutonic Order into a vassal state and then annexes western Prussia, leaving Ingavonia breathless, but unable to do anything about it.
  • 1470s-1490s - Ingavonian agriculture suffers from harsh winter for two decades.
  • 1517 - Martin Luther publishes the Ninety-Five Theses, which leads to the Reformation and the birth of Protestantism.
  • 1518 - King Frederik I (aka "Frederik the Great") officially converts to Protestantism, followed by the rest of Ingavonia.
  • 1519 - Ingavonia starts to help the Teutonic Order gain its independence from the Commonwealth.
  • 1521 - The Commonwealth eradicates the Teutonic Order, which devastates Ingavonia.
  • 1522 - Ingavonia cracks down on a Catholic peasant revolt in Pomerania, which leads to relentless persecution of Catholics in the country.
  • 1590s-1610s - Ingavonia charters a company that would explore the "New World".
  • 1618 - Ingavonia participates in the Deluge.
  • 1641 - Ingavonia engages the Commonwealth during the Battle of Gdansk, which leads to heavy casualties for both sides.
  • 1642 - Prince Frederik Vilhelm is crowned King of Ingavonia after his father Jorgen Vilhelm passes away.
  • 1648 - The Treaty of Westphalia is signed between Ingavonia and the Commonwealth as the latter focuses more on Greece, Wallachia, Russia and Illyria.
  • 1660s-1690s - Witch trials starts to take place in Ingavonia with many women being accused of witchcraft and thus executed.
  • 1740s-1770s - King Frederik II (aka "Frederik the Enlightened") starts to implement various reforms in Ingavonia, which includes modernizing the Ingavonian bureaucracy and civil service, promoting religious liberty, changing the judiciary, encouraging immigration to Ingavonia, funding art and even allowing freedom of the press.
  • 1780s-1800s - Nationalism starts to emerge in Ingavonia and elsewhere, resulting in several revolts by Hollanders (Dutchmen), Prussians (Germans), Poles and Frisians. Ingavonia also engages in the French Revolutionary Wars against France.
  • 1820s-1890s - Ingavonia starts to industrialize.
  • 1840-1848 - Ingavonia faces more devastating rebellions.
  • 1848 - After the rebellions died down, the Ingavonian government reforms itself so that the title of Chancellor is officially established alongside a legislative Rejkstag.
  • 1870s-1890s - Ingavonia starts to colonize parts of Africa.
  • 1888 - Prince Frederik III becomes the current King of Ingavonia after his father Vilhelm I passes away.
  • 1890 - Present day.

What's the divergence then? What's alternate?

From a cursory look, this is literally Prussia, with Frederick III surviving, but other than that, it doesn't seem to have anything alternate in the concept other than what the nations around you demand with their existence and history (no German unification).

I guess I can figure it out in the meanwhile or seek assistance from other players with German history. I can remove the German unification part and replace it with something else like making Prussia a powerhouse.

That's not how alt-history roleplays like ours work though.

You need a point of divergence, a chance, some sort of a deviation from real life, and you need to have it as part as your app and your concept, not solely as a consequence of others. You need to somehow make Prussia be different than how it was in real life.

Okay, I will fix a POD, which makes Prussia more different than it is in OTL.

Are you sure you want to go with Bismark? He would have been kicked out by Wilhem II on March the 15th and with Frederick you get the problem that he would have been kicked out a lot earlier.

I'd like to offer some friendly suggestions since the CO-OPs are asking you to be more alternate. Heres some off the top of my head;

Prussian or North German Republic, possibly derived from the 1848 or 1848 style revolutions or from the Hanseatics.

North Germany united under a non-Hohenzollern, maybe the Hannoverians who historically were also the ruling house of Britain at this time. Could be done multiple ways with an alternate North german monarchy either being dominant or maybe sharing power in a Dual-monarchy with Prussia or as a German Empire style Imperial Federal monarchy.

Maybe research the Carolingian dynasty and think about them continuing on and maybe still being in power through a cadet branch.

A German Confederation with no real single leader made up of various Republics, Theocracies, Monarchies, etc. much like the HRE and OTL German Confederation but more of a actual nation.

Ha didn't think someone would just grab northern Germany so fast, though I did post that map to get someone. My only current problem is that I would have wanted an access to the sea. I made this map to get someone else into Prussia and then discuss the territorial dispute. So I'm now writing to Thrace. If that accursed vampire accepts me bowing before him and gives me Belgium I would like to get some of the eastern parts of the Rhine + Luxemburg to connect them. I think you might maybe if you explain it and go with a constitutional monarchy / republic thing get the Netherlands.

I can do that (but only if you give me the old German parts of Brazil).

Also, I have basically abandoned all of Belgium in favor of Eupen-Malmedy.

Le Royaume du Brésil
The Kingdom of Brazil

Majority/Official Culture: Brésilien, a distinct French colonial culture developed within the country that predates the countries independence, although there exists African-creole cultures and ethnic enclaves in the country.
Territorial Core: Brazil, Uruguay
Territorial Claim: Mesopotamia, Paraguay
Capital City: Porto blanc (Rio de Jainero)
Population: 23,500,000

Government Type: Absolute monarchy
[b]Government Ideology/Policies:
Royalism, Reaction, Integralism, anti-republicanism
Government Focus: Promotion of stability, security of its border, and consolidating and protecting its claims over the Amazon.
Head of State: Philippe II de Bourbon
Head of Government: Philippe II de Bourbon (De-jure), Etienne Ledet (De-facto)
Government Description: The Brazilian state is headed by a monarch who has absolute control over his government and the state apparatus. His government is composed of several departments, each which helps administrate a certain aspect of the state. Although the Kings of Brazil do not need anyone to participate in the management of the state, often the king has been aided by a Deputy known as the "Royal Magistrate" (Magistrat royal) who aids and advises him in matters of statesmanship.

The Brazilian state is subdivided into different regions for administrative convenience, each run by a governor who is appointed by the King. Typically the person is someone who is from the region being governed-however this is not necessary, Cities and towns are typically governed by councils or strong mayors- sometimes even appointed by the King. City and local governance are quite diverse in this regard.

The Catholic Church plays a part in governance of the state, as the canon law of the church heavily influences the secular law. Although the Catholic Church does not control the school system, The Catholic Church is involved heavily in state education, with clergymen and devoted laypersons making up a significant section of the educational apparatus. As a Catholic confessional state, the King of Brazil and the rest of his government pledges to enforce the religion over the whole of his domain.
Majority/State Religion: Roman Catholicism
Religious Description: N/A

Economic Ideologies: Protectionist syndicalism with market economies.
Major Production: Tropical crops, textiles, mineral ores, Cement, Iron.
Economic Description: Although the Brazilian economy has advanced quite a bit from the middle of the century, much of the economy is still centered around the production of tropical crops like sugar and coffee- a legacy of its historic reliance of African slave labor. In fact, much of the population still lives in the countryside- but this is changing as economic opportunity attracts more people to the cities in order to pursue jobs in the growing textile and heavy industry sectors. Most of the countries large population centers are on the coast however, as the interior is full of wild lands which are by their nature hard to develop and settle. Despite this, government efforts to interconnect the country through railroads has resulted in the widening of the national market, exposing previously closed markets to outside competition and aiding in the growth of the industrial sector. The resource extraction sector has grown considerably, as the country has grown quickly to fill growing international demand and its extraction efficiency has gone up due to access to more efficient methods and equipment being brought from abroad.

The government has taken a keen interest in subsidizing industries it sees as useful, as self-sufficiency in the case of war is considered a national interest. Despite this, the military is still very reliant on imports to satisfy needs for certain military equipment. A native arms industry is quickly developing though, with subsidies from the government incentivizing investment into this sector of the manufacturing economy.

Development: Semi-modern
Development Description: While the coastal parts of the country are certainly modern- the hinterlands tend to be poor and largely agricultural, with many areas lacking paved roads or good municipal management. Certain areas which are on the frontiers, such as far western Brazil and the Amazon are incredibly hard to develop due to the nature of their geography and climate. Despite this, water transport and rail transport are quite developed on the coasts and on the Amazon River itself. Railroads lead into the interior of the country and connect the capital and the coastal cities to their outer frontiers- reflecting the nature of the countries extraction and agriculture based economy.

Army Description: Le Armée royale brésilienne (The Brazilian Royal Army, often abbreviated to just "ARB") is the military arm of the Brazilian state. It falls directly under the control of the Brazilian monarch, and as such it answers only to the monarch personally. Despite this, the army itself is largely coordinated by the efforts of the Royal General Staff, which is in charge of planning operations, weapons procurement and often times (from members of its own ranks) leading the army into battle. The army itself has historically traced its origins to the French Royal Army. This claim is not unfounded, as much of the military traditions and customs come from the old French Army prior to its revolution. Much of the early officer corps was recruited from the loyal officers of the French Royal Army, and the descendants of this class have largely added their talent to the current corps for better or worse. The ARB General Staff generally tries to stay updated with the latest in military doctrine, however its ability to implement these lessons into its own army remains limited due to the lack of actual experience and funding.

The Army is forced to take political considerations into account, as such the Armies attempts to establish a conscription system have been met with limited success. Since slaves have historically been barred from entering military service, much of the army had to be drafted from freemen. However, since the abolition of slavery the army has been recruiting more and more from the Afro-Brazilian population swelling its numbers. Brazil is considered a regional power and as such it has the numbers to reflect it-.

Active: 88,000

In addition to these active troops the army has a modest reserve which can be mobilized quickly in case of war. These troops are trained and are part of the active service for some time and then are transferred to reserves. The draft is concerned only with filling quotas set by the general staff, and as such most of the population never touches military service.

Reserves: 170,000

Divisions and regiments are garrisoned in specific regions during their service. When not at war, the Army acts as peacekeeping force, support for the local national guards (National police force), emergency relief force, and frontier guards. The Army, particularly in northern military districts- has been occupied pacifying the small and separate tribes that inhabit the Amazon, and guarding the frontier towns from attacks and raids from the natives. The army also garrisons marginal regions where Brazilian control is weak e.g the interior Amazon regions.
Army Weakness: The ARB, while a fairly competent and proud military service, faces a challenging task to guard its large frontiers which are far away from the countries logistical centers. As such, much of the country us unable to be properly garrisoned. This fact has meant that government presence in certain regions is non existent (Emphasis, Amazon rain forest). The Army is also reliant on imports to meet certain military demands, making it severely vulnerable to disruption of its logistics. Even though the officer corps have a strong tradition and are well educated, its largely inexperienced- limiting its effectiveness in wartime.
Naval Description: Le Marine royale brésilienne (French Royal Navy - abbreviated often as "MRB" ) is the marine arm of the Brazilian armed forces. Like its land counterpart, the MRB is accountable only to the Monarch, who is its head. The MRB is administrated by the Naval General Staff, which is in charge of its planning and operations. Unlike the Army however, much of its talent does not come from its aristocracy- but from its merchant classes, who have always had better sea legs. This is reflected in its officer corps, which is largely more meritocratic than its land counterpart- partly out of necessity and partly because of its more egalitarian ethos. The navies main tasks among other things include:

- Protecting its sea lanes and commerce

- enforcing Brazilian economic rights in its sea zones

- acting as a emergency response force during disasters and rescuing people who need it off Brazilian shore

The MRB largely operates as a coastal defense force, but it has a few steam powered ironclads in its service, which are quite powerful compared to their contemporaries. These ships perform in naval exercises regularly.

Naval Weakness: The Brazilian navy is small, and is of no note to any larger power. Most of its ships are made out of wood, and are still powered by wind or by older steam engines. While it has some modern ships in its service, these make up the minority of its fleet and can provide no realistic resistance to a competent naval power.
Further Military Description: N/A

National Goals: Settle territorial disputes, maintain order, fully industrialize.
National Issues: Recently abolished slavery and its legacy has created a new set of social issues which threaten to de-stabilize the nation if not managed properly. Limited control over the Amazon means territorial claims are perceived as threatened. The Brazilian economy is not industrialized, and as such its economy is less advanced then that of its neighbors and foreign powers abroad- leaving it open to foreign economic influence.
National Figures of Interest: N/A
National Ambition/Aspirations: Reclaim disputed Amazonian territories, taking Mesopotamia and lower Paraguay, full industrialization and modernization of the nation.

History:

The Colonial Period (1500-1790)
• 1500- Brazil is discovered by Henry Ledet in 1500
• 1511- the first French settlement in northern Brazil is established. Expeditions around the eastern coast of South America continue throughout the age of exploration.
• 1560s’- Brazil is colonized further and the importation of African slaves fuels the sugar economy, leading it to be the world’s producer of sugar from the mid-16th century well into the 17th century. Overtime it becomes one of the most important French colonies due to its economic significance. The confluence of French settlers and population with slaves make it a bustling colony however much of the interior at this point remained unexplored.
• 1590s- French attempts to solidify control of the continent continue as French explorers like Jean Bedard and Martin Chateau make inroads to the central savannah regions of Brazil. The Great Amazon rainforest provides a natural barrier to the north and the Andes and Rio Plata (French: rivière d'argent) provide natural land borders for the colony. During this time, Jesuits made their home in Brazil and their influence on society would become felt into the future.
• 1600s- Brazil at this time had many untapped resources, which attracted attention from other colonial powers. Throughout the century, more settlers would arrive to take advantage if the land and territory granted by the French crown to settle the region. French colonial forces would frequently drive out natives or enslave them for work for use in plantations. The economic wealth of this period combined with the frequent trade from Brazil to Europe often meant that Brazil was a target of piracy- often sponsored by foreign powers but also a great deal of criminals who would take advantage of the nations long coastlines. Regardless, Brazil would prosper in this period up until the late 17th century when sugar became less and less lucrative as a result of foreign competition.
• 1701- The turn of the century saw the discovery of gold in the regions of southern Brazil- promoting even more settlement from abroad and investment from the French crown. Although many settlers came, most of the work in these mines were done by slaves, who at this point made up a sizable portion of the Brazilian population.
• 1726- Although many minor slave revolts had occurred in the past, the rebellion of 1726 was probably the largest one in the colony’s history- not to be surpassed until the rebellion of 1834 over 100 years later. This rebellion, led by a man named Tressor (he is mythologized and is a hero by many afro-Brazilians today) who led a revolt in southern Brazil against French colonial authorities in order to secure his freedom and the freedom of his fellow slaves.
• 1729- After 3 years of fighting, Tressor finally died in 1729 of an unknown disease (some say he was poisoned). Regardless, the slave revolt which nearly saw the overthrow of the Brazilian colonial government only intensified the harsh treatment of slaves. The consequences of this revolt forced the locals to be formed into local militias and military formations in earnest.
• 1731- Les Nouvelles Lois are implemented- creating a strict caste system regulating the racial classes in society. These laws were created in response to the threat of another slave revolt- to formalize the de-facto classes of society. While they formally put blacks at the bottom of the racial hierarchy, blacks gained rights that they did not have before. Les Nouvelles Lois would have a significant impact on the makeup and look of Brazilian society into the future.
• 1757- The Jesuit order, which at this point had been present for over 200 years, had gained a non-trivial amount of land and influence within colonial Brazil. The Jesuits, who had been formed in order to combat Protestantism, had become successful- as estimates were that nearly 30% of the population at this point had been converted to Catholicism, mainly slaves and the lower classes. This was viewed as a threat- and a potential motivator for a new revolt. The Jesuits were in turn expelled, with many of the clergy being expelled from Brazil. Despite this, many clergy managed to stay due to the relative ineffectiveness of the colonial authorities in hunting down church leadership and its marginal control of the western frontier regions were many escapee communities had formed. These marginal communities of escaped slaves and Catholics would form the basis of the “Savane culture.” This group of hardnosed, hard riding frontiersman would become a frequent problem for the colonial authorities, being unable to extract taxes or tribute from them they would effectively become independent for the next 80 years.
Independence Period (1791-1810)
• 1793- The French revolution, was by this time in full swing. Influenced by the radical secular philosophies of the enlightenment, French king Louis XVI- after being forced to make concession after concession to his enemies- was finally forced into exile. Louis and the loyal members of his court boarded on a ship from Picardie to Port Blanc on January 21st, 1793. This journey was quite difficult for the King, especially since his young son- Louis Charles died on the journey due to illness. It is said that during this time, Louis began his conversion to Catholicism- reportedly he considered his current condition and the misery which he had been afflicted with to be a punishment from God, divine retribution for their usurpation of the spiritual authority of the papacy.
Brazil was not the King’s first choice, although his choices were few. He was rejected by several nations for refuge- and he preferred not to be a trophy for the Romans. Therefore, he opted to exile to the French colony of Brazil. This colony was in opposition to the revolution, and its colonial government- headed by Viceroy Charles Ledet had opposed the events occurring in France. Even though he had been officially removed from power, he effectively still controlled the government and was still supported by the nobility in the colony. So, when Louis XVI arrived on his shores in exile, he welcomed his monarch with open arms, accepting his king whom he considered to be the legitimate sovereign of Brazil.
• 1794- Louis XVI, initially assumed control over the Brazilian colony- ruling over it as a de-facto sovereign nation. His rule was mostly unopposed in the colony, and Charles Ledet continued to have an influential position in the French/Brazilian court. At this point in time though, the French king still considered himself the rightful ruler of France, and throughout this period he would sponsor many of the reactionary movements of France and fund their activities using his own wealth and the wealth of the Brazilian colony. This however was a disastrous move however, as the crisis which it would create would cause some instability to the proto-Brazilian state.
• 1805- Although the French republic had made attempts to re-capture its old colony, all attempts had been rebuffed. Louis XVI, at this time the sovereign of Brazil for over a decade, died of a tropical illness. His death put Charles Ledet in charge once again, as at this period there was no monarch willing to assume control of the rogue colony. Ledet proved to be competent however, as he successfully maneuvered his government into independence. His rule, which was of questionable legitimacy- was nonetheless legitimized by the endorsement of Louis XVIII of Bourbon. Ledet, who was a thoroughbred monarchist- wished the return of the colony to the rule of a monarch, preferably a Bourbon. However, the old French kings still held out hope for France to be restored. This, to the misfortune of the Bourbons would not come.
• 1810- Louis XVIII, disheartened by the thorough transformation of France into a republic, realized his situation in Europe was hopeless. He departed for Brazil, where he arrived on May 7th, 1810. He was welcomed with open arms- Ledet assured him that the government was ready to accept him as the rightful sovereign. Louis XVIII, who was the legitimate ruler of France, ascended to the kingship of Brazil on May 30th, 1810. Charles then decreed that Brazil was now a sovereign power- officially formalizing the independence which Brazil already had for nearly two decades.
Louis XVIII, Charles X, Louis XIX (1811-1844)
• 1811- This year marks the beginning of the period known as the reign of the three kings (le règne des trois rois). This period saw the early development of the Brazilian kingdom under the watch of three separate kings. Louis XVIII’s reign was conventional- his project was to settle the country and to stabilize the nations economy and politics, a task which he was successful in doing. Louis XVIII, with the help of Charles Ledet- established the country as a reliable creditor and settled the new government in Porto Blanc.
• 1818- The new state needed to formalize its frontiers, which had been ambiguous for some time. Faced with the threat of invasion by hostile powers, the government set as its priority to form a competent and well lead military. This task was aided by the experience of the many old nobles who has come to Brazil who had military experience and training. The Brazilian royal army was thus employed in protecting the frontiers, which immediately saw service against the Savane’s, who at this time had become experienced residents of the Brazilian savannahs.
• 1820- Catholicism, which up previously had been suppressed continued to grow. While Charles XVIII had never converted, he himself had become sympathetic. He allowed the Jesuits to return, under the condition that they would help him under his service. Although the Jesuit order agreed, they proved hard to control. The Church of France, which had been thrown into theological and hierarchal disarray as a result of the revolution- saw a huge drop in legitimacy in the eyes of many of the nobility. The switch was perhaps the most logical choice, as the two sects remained largely similar in practice.
• 1824- Louis XVIII died, leaving the skeleton of a successful military force and a relatively stable economy and political situation. Charles X came to power after his brother’s death, although he did not arrive until 1825. Charles Ledet, who at this point was 95 years old, retired from politics. He would die a year later. He was buried in Porto Blanc under the Basilica of St. Louis le Roi Croise. He rests there to this day.
• 1830- Charles X proved to be a true reactionary. Under his rule he emphasized the rule of Kings, centralizing the power of the Monarchy and establishing more control over the state. He waged successful campaigns against the Savane peoples, who at this point had been driven further and further into the heart of South America. Charles saw use for the Savane, as he forced them to accept his rule and impressed many of them into service in the army. The savane would prove to be capable warriors, to be expected from a people who were so hard to pacify.
• 1834- Charles X’s centralization efforts had another effect- he made the laws regarding slavery much stricter. Under the old system, the slaves were allowed to keep some of their earnings for certain days and were guaranteed- however under the influence of the aristocracy and plantation class Charles X rescinded many of their rights. This cascaded into a full-blown crisis, as many slaves who had grown accustomed to these arrangements began to plot rebellion. This was especially true of the recently enslaved Africans who had been brought over. Although the trade of slaves had been frowned upon internationally, it still occurred in secret. This rebellion, unlike the only of 1726- was not organized by any single group or clique but instead was a series of mass slave uprisings. These uprisings while much more brutal- were much more easily put down due to the responsiveness of the royal army and the disorganization of the rebels. The reports of slaughter and cruelty shocked the Brazilian elites- and so Charles X was given pause. Although the laws would remain in place, the issue of slavery was now much more present in the minds of the ruling class.
• 1836- Charles X died and was succeeded by his son Louis Antoine, who became Louis XIX. Louis XIX had travelled with his father to South America- so there was no delay in his coronation. He would be the last of the kings of this early period of Brazilian history. Louis XIX reign would not be marked by peace. He would immediately have to deal with the first crisis of his rule, the French-Brazilian war of 1836-1840 [requires more detail and need to consult FRANCE PLAYER]
In the heart of modernity (1845-1889)
• 1844- Louis XIX died, with no heirs. As such, succession passed down to Henri V. He was the last legitimist descendant. His rule was marked by stability and relative peacefulness- earning him the title of the “King of doves.” He would be the longest ruling Brazilian king.
• 1857- The Catholic Church, which by this time had become the largest religion in Brazil- was established as the official church of the Brazilian state. Henri V, whom had personally been sympathetic to the religion was formally allowed into the church and he declared that his religion would be the religion of his subjects. The remnants of the Church of France had their assets donated to the church, establishing it as another influential force in Brazilian society formally.
• 1869- On January 6th, King Henri V died in a tragic carriage accident. His death caused a crisis in the royal court. He had no legitimate male heirs, however he had a pregnant wife who potentially had a male heir. Despite this, the child was not eligible for succession and his throne would be filled by the hesitant Louis-Phillipe (who took the royal title Louis Phillipe I). Louis-Phillipe would only reign for a few months however, as he was a liberal and despised the concept of monarchy. His attempts to liberalize were rebuffed by the Brazilian aristocracy, who preferred the current system of government. When he abdicated on July 21st, Henri V’s unborn child (Phillipe) had been already an infant for 6 months. He was considered the next legitimate successor to the throne. However, he was still just a baby, thus His government was overseen by a regent- Etienne Ledet. Ledet was descended from Charles Ledet, and his family was (and still is) very influential and powerful. He proved a competent ruler, and his abilities would show in the Second French-Brazilian war of 1869-1872.
The events in Brazil were followed with interest by the French Republic, which was eager to re-conquer its old colony and topple their old rulers in a new country [details of war must be sorted out with FRANCE PLAYER]
• 1872-1887- Etienne Ledet would continue to rule as regent over this period into the present day. Over his time in power he has overseen the industrialization of Brazil in earnest, seeing industries expand and promoting the modernization of the country. Railroads (colloquially known as “Ledet’s railroad”) and telegraphs were built across the country, increasing the governments power in previously hard to control regions. It also increased settlement in the interior regions and opened new markets which have boosted the nations industry. Under his rule, the army has undergone modernization and upkeep, and the country has remained relatively stable. However, Ledet’s most important decision perhaps, was the abolition of slavery in 1881. This decision was widely controversial. Ledet had previously ran on his prestige and credibility from defeating the French Republic, but his rule as regent had been called into question. This decision has had profound social consequences which are still developing.
• 1888- Phillippe II de Bourbon came of age and was coronated King of Brazil.

Well to be honest we can actually leave the 30 years war out, than both of us are stronger in the long turn and can justify more and the Netherlands becoming its own nation would be nearly impossible.
