If people don't think the court is legitimate they won't obey it's rulings. We need the court to be legitimate because otherwise it won't be able to do its job of enforcing the law and keeping other branches of government in check.

They control the highest court in the land, they can write any bullshit reasoning they want in a decision and no one can do anything about it. Chief Justice Donald Trump Jr. could write a decision saying that God spoke to him in a dream told him that marriage is between a man and a woman only and there's nothing you could do about it.
When Obama played by the rules he gave the Republicans a seat on the Supreme Court.
They could but such a ruling would totally undermine the legitimacy of the court. Donald Trump Jr. could not be nominated to the court. Its against the law.

So what? Who's going to stop them? They have the Supreme Court, Trump's judges can just rule his actions legal. What difference does the legitimacy of the court make?Bienenhalde wrote:
No, that was the voter's fault for electing Trump. Obama was completely right to follow the rules.
If Clinton had won then the vacancy would have been held open until a Republican took the White House.

If the court isn't considered legitimate, then why would the army, or the FBI, or the CIA listen to them? We could very well have a second civil war breaking out.

We are already going to have a second civil war breaking out. There’s nothing we can do to stop it. We can only extend the time frame at this point.
If Biden wins in November the civil war would still happen just not as soon, if Trump wins civil war will happen within 5 years.
All we are doing is extending when the civil war happens by 5 or so years

Cohesive political organization and action, mostly. There are no clearly defined "sides" with agendas, just very very loosely structured militias and political organizations with vague and esoteric agendas. Not very inspiring.

Rule the anti nepotism law unconstitutional? Because that what you'd have to do.
so the court would be short two members? doubtful.

It’s not nonsense.
People have lost faith in the system. Many on the left wing feel that there’s no hope anymore because they all know that a super conservative is on the court. That is now pushing them into supporting more extreme measures like revolution, General strikes, assassinations, and the like.
When you push people until they have no hope left they will either breakdown or fire back with white hot rage

Well, if people in government act completely arbitrarily and the military and the FBI and the CIA no longer have any reason to remain loyal, it wouldn't be totally implausible.
Except I don't work for the Government, I work for the Constitution.
This isn't fucking 1858. It's 1932.
