No, I consider scum that prey on teenagers and scum that prey on pre-adolescents the same sort of scum, deserving of the same sorts of consequences.

This is a good overarching principle to hold, but jailing 18-year-olds for having consensual sex with 17-year-olds and then registering them as sex offenders sounds like overkill to me.

That's a stupid thing to think. If two seventeen year olds are having consensual sex that turns into statutory rape when the clock strikes midnight on one's birthday the dumbassery rests with lawmakers.
