World Lacrosse Championships 35 - Sign-Up, Host Bids, Etc.

Postby Sarzonia » Sun Sep 13, 2020 3:09 pm

NationStates' longest-running international lacrosse competition is back. Throughout its storied history of 34 editions, 22 different nations have conquered to lift the most sought-after trophy in the sport, bringing pride to their nations and forging their own legacies. Cosumar have the most medals of any team in history and Sarzonia have the most gold medals in the history of the sport. Will Sarzonia add to their dynasty or could your nation be next?

Post here to sign up for the tournament or bid to host. Being a traditionally smaller competition, the WLC is a great tournament for newer hosts to build their resume, but some experience with xkoranate and RPing on this forum is highly recommended.

Northwest Kalactin Bid for WLC 35
Note: I have received word that there is another prospective bidder for the WLC. I am still putting up a bid, to give users a bit of a different option.

IC Info
Northwest Kalactin is a nation that is fully involved in the world of sport. Lacrosse is a top 10 sport in the nation. It isn’t watched by a ton of people but a large international competition like WLC is sure to bring attention to the sport in the nation. The nation runs a domestic league that has a large cup at the end of each season. The tournament will be held in the cities of Coffs and Kempsey, two cities where lacrosse is a more popular sport.

Format
I plan on using the Casaran or, Swiss format to host this tournament. I know it isn’t preferable, but I hope to provide an as smooth as possible experience with it. After each match day, teams will be sorted in the following order: Points, Strength of Victory, Strength of Schedule. The parings will be done with the Casaran Scheduler program, which auto calculates SoS, SoV, matches teams and flags rematches, that alone will speed up the process of scheduling immensely. Due to the number of signals that we plan to have, I plan on holding a 5-6 match day Casaran stage. The number of teams advancing will depend on the format, but you can plan for this.

20-24 Teams: Top 12 Teams in Casaran Stage go to playoffs.

26-36 Teams: Top 12 Teams Advance, 8 Teams go to Play-in matches.

38+ Teams: Seeds 1–12 Auto-advance to Ro16, next 12 seeds go to Play-in matches.

Scorination/RP Bonus
Results will be scored using the latest version of xkoranate, using the formula used by the program. RP Bonus will be Cumulative, Generous, and fair to all styles, so nobody will get the short end of the stick. RPs will be graded Quality over Quantity, based on Creativity and Detail. Bonus will degrade by 50% after the Casaran stage, to encourage RPing throughout the Knockout Rounds and later stages of the tournament.

Experience
By the writing of this bid, the user behind Northwest Kalactin has hosted AOHC 7, KFI 1&2, All India Cup 1, Co-hosted the 5th Melayu Archipelago Cup, and is in the process of hosting the Gold Coast Basketball Tournament. He has a large number of domestic leagues across many sports, including lacrosse. He has lots of knowledge with the xkoranate program and knows how it works inside and out.

Q&A
Q: How well do you know the Casaran System?
A: I feel that I have an adequate knowledge and liking of the system. I ran my own domestic cup using just spreadsheets that I created in Googledocs, so I feel I know the system well enough and I am comfortable with it.

Q: How long will our results take to arrive?
A: I will try and provide a speedy turnover from cutoff to the time that you know your next opponent. I have created spreadsheets that will aid with the data input from the Casaran Scheduler to xkoranate.

Q: Why did you choose the Casaran System?
A: I take a liking to the system, and it has been one of my goals on this site to host a tournament with it for a while. Also I feel Lacrosse would be an interesting sport to try it, as we usually stick to the same format time after time, I think this would be an interesting change, and users should be open to trying it out.

Q: What Happens if there is a Tie between teams after the Casaran Stage?
A: If SoS and SoV do not break the tie, then Rank+RPB will be the tiebreaker used.

Q: Where will matches be played ICly?
A: All matches will be played in Northwest Kalactin, although it should not make an OOC difference as the xkoranate H2H Paradigm (which is the paradigm lacrosse is based on) does not use home advantage.

Feel free to ask questions.

Sylestone bid for WLC 35

Please note that depending on CoH outcomes this could be taken down.

Sylestonean information:
Sylestone is a tropical island country, located in the region of Esportiva. Albeit reasonably new, it is known for many things, most particularly for the rich sporting culture the nation has. It has become a relatively known nation in the sports of lacrosse, cricket, soccer, Australian Rules football and ice hockey. The nation is home to beautiful lush rainforests, beaches and reefs, tourist attractions that are all well worth your time to visit. But despite the importance placed on the environment, Sylestone also has a thriving economy that is run by the tourism and cheese industries that make the island a very nice place to visit. Football stadiums will mainly be used as the grounds, although some specialised lacrosse grounds will be constructed so as not to interfere with the football.

Hosting Experience:
Sylestone hasn’t really had the chance to host too many events, with only the IFC, a minor footballing competition to its name. However, the nation currently has a Cup of Harmony host bid in place, something that will take them a long way in the hosting world.

Scorination and bonuses:
Scorination will take place via xkoranate 0.3,3 and with generous RP bonuses. Rosters will be worth one matchday’s RP. However, failing to post a roster will result in a degrading bonus, going down by 10% each matchday until you reach 50%. It will not fall below this number. However, in the instance that someone posts a roster after the tournament has started, the penalty will apply to the extent it has been given. So for example, if post a roster after two matchdays, then you will have a 20% penalty to your rank. However, instead of degrading to 30% next round, it will stay 20% for the remainder of the tournament. RP prompts will also be used.

Format:
If groups contain four teams, then a double round-robin will take place.
20 teams: Four groups of five, top two from each group to quarterfinals.
24 teams: Four groups of six, top four from each group to the round of 16.
30 teams: Five groups of six, top three from each group and best fourth place to the round of 16.
32 teams: Eight groups of four, top two from each group to the round of 16.
36 teams: Six groups of six, top two from each group and the four best third-placed to the round of 16.
40 teams: Eight groups of five, top two from each group to the round of 16.
If any more is needed, then I shall update the bid.

Tiebreakers:
If teams are tied on points, then it shall be as follows:
Goal Difference
Head-to-head points
Head-to-head goal difference
Goals for
Head-to-head goals for
RP bonus (IC: Coin toss)

Questions? Feel free to ask!
