I find that weird, because I normally just use like 2 eggs to make my cakes. Although maybe it's because I'm using cake mix(I don't really like those kinds tbh). But anything more than 10 seems a bit excessive unless you're making a huge cake.
The amount of eggs depends heavily on the number of people you intend to feed with the cake. Although a good rule of thumb is that you always want 1.5 to 2 eggs in the filling per one in the crust.
