Terre Septentrionale stunned by Tequilo

Sainte-Anne, Omérique - Terre Septentrionale lost 3-0 against Tequilo and finished in 3rd place in the standings. Both Tequilo and HUElavia have advanced to the playoffs and we go back home. If you wanna know who scored for Tequilo, just read their newspapers because I'm not going to write their name. It's a game to forget but what should be noted is Franciszek Niedzwiecki's late tackle on Turbolito at the 79th minute when the score was already 2-0 for Tequilo. Franciszek Niedzwiecki received a red card and will be suspended for Terre Septentrionale's next game, whether it's a friendly or game 1 of the World Cup qualifications. Turbolito got lucky and he doesn't look injured from that late tackle.

Boot It!: Jags Crush Omerican Hearts To Survive!

Postby TJUN-ia » Sun Aug 16, 2020 10:23 am

By Peter Davis

Falconbarrow and Revolution Park were going to witness a great spectacle in footballing survival. In this stadium, TJUN-ia and the hosts Omerica would fight it out for survival in IACX, with the hosts having the advantage by 1 point. The Jaguars vs Les Incorrigibles for the right to play on in this tournament, with one eye on the other fixture as Schottia looked to book their place by beating Hwiccemark. TJUN-ia were the home team and would step onto the pitch at Revolution Park in their home blue and orange, but this wasn't a home game in any sense of the imagination. 15,000 TJUN-ians were in the stands to support their Jaguars, but the rest of this stadium was supporting the men in grey. David Seems and his men had to beat not only Omerica, not only George Kostas and his 4-3-3 diamond, but the home crowd too in order to play knockout IAC football for the 2nd time in a row.

The game kicked off and the duel began. The "Battle of the 4-3-3", as some in TJUN-ia called it, had tension in the air throughout. The home crowd were boisterous, looking to help their team into the knockouts rounds - there is a reason why the URSF retired the number 12. There was a sense of magic in the air as the Jaguars played in what could be described as the most hellish atmosphere they have ever played in. The Incorrigibles were the favourites heading into this fixture and they looked to use that to their advantage, with attack after attack heading towards our defence. Eventually, the pressure was too much and the hosts broke through in the 33rd minute through a strike from Jean-François Fernand. The roar that goal produces was a feeling the Jags may feel for the rest of their lives. As half-time arrived, the hosts were in control and they looked like they would join Schottia in the Round of 16. Hwiccemark were giving TJUN-ia nothing - if they Jags were to survive, they must produce a comeback for the ages.

David Seems knew this too and set about taking the task on when the 2nd half began. The Jags came out fighting, playing better football than the first, as the situation to everyone came clear - win and you're in. Omerica was defending hard and with good reason - they didn't want the ire of being eliminated from the groups as the hosts. The game turned into a crawl as both sides looked for something to turn the tide of this game and, after 67 minutes, TJUN-ia found what they were looking for. Peliniho, ever-reliable, found substitute Archer Andrews in the box, who then proceeded to shoot the ball past Valentine Augustin with flair and style. JBBST reacted accordingly.
C1: Here's Peliniho. He's looking for someone right here. He shoots to Andrews, WHO SLOTS THE BALL UNDER THE LEGS OF AUGUSTIN!
C2: He's done him there, he really has!
C1: Shamrock Cathair, I hope you're watching! Archer Andrews may have ended Valentine Augustin's career right there and TJUN-ia are halfway there! TJUN-ia 1, Omerica 1 and the crowd here at Revolution Park are stunned!

One down, one more to go. A draw would not be enough by any stretch of the imagination - we needed to win. Manu Kepelewako was brought on for the first time in his senior career and the game was still tied. Prince Carter replaced Peliniho as was looking to kill the game himself. As time ticked down, the hope was fading for the TJUN-ia faithful..but then a miracle occurred in the 89th. Take it away, JBBST!
C2: TJUN-ia needs to find something here or else they are gone.
C1: Here comes Carter, starting to move forward. The pressure is on the attackers right now as Omerica look to kill the game here. He passes to Kepelewako, who is finding space on his own! Manu shoots, AND SCORES! HE SCORES! MANU KEPELEWAKO, ON HIS FIRST APPEARANCE FOR THE SENIOR SIDE, MAY HAVE JUST SENT THE JAGUARS TO THE ROUND OF 16! REVOLUTION PARK IS STUNNED ONCE AGAIN BUT THE TJUN-IANS ARE GOING BONKERS RIGHT NOW! TJUN-IA 2-1 OMERICA, AND AN U23s PLAYER MAY HAVE SEALED THE COMEBACK FOR THE JAGUARS!

The final whistle blew a few minutes later and no one quite knew what to do. The TJUN-ian players were celebrating like mad, as were the TJUN-ian fans in the stadium. David Seems and Li Xiu Ying shook hands with George Kostas and his coaching staff before they hugged it out on the sideline. Even they couldn't believe what had happened in Falconbarrow. The Omerican players were stunned as were their loyal supporters and no one quite knew how to take what they had seen. As the TJUN-ians calmed down and shook hands with their Omerican counterparts, the situation was clear: Omerica, the hosts of this tournament and former champions in their own right, had crashed out after winning their first 2 games. In the end, Space and TJUN-ia had knocked out the hosts. TJUN-ia, by some miracle, had knocked out the 45th tanked team in the multiverse (the 10th ranked in the IAC) to move on to their 2nd IAC knockouts in a row. The Jaguars had stunned Les Incorrigibles on their home turf.

Schottia wins the group on H2H, they will take on HUElavia in the next round. As for TJUN-ia, they had done the impossible. They were moving on to the Round of 16, to take on the winners of Group B at the Stadium of the Occident in Westhaven. That team is rising stars Tequilo, a team who have taken the world b storm ever since their debut at the last Baptism of Fire. Luka Entenza's side plays in an attacking 4-4-2 formation and look to score goals fast. It will be an interesting game nonetheless, as the 72nd ranked Jaguars take on Los Pitxileros, ranked 71st. GO JAGS!

Greetings, compatriots! It's TTV from IA-X. Our team just won it's last game of group stage against Sharktail.

The Blue Predators already lost chances to playoff, but undeservingly sitting at the last place in group have a strong desire to go at least some distance upwards. And there was no one to doubt that they don’t give up any points without fight. And we must say, it’s precisely what happen.

The stadium before the start of the game is like an arena of battle - behind the right gates the "green sea" was raging, behind the left gates "blue" one is not inferior in passion and volume of noise, Sharktail fans with their numerous rubber sharks, some of them having frightening similarity with real ones and hardly smaller to them in size.

Our guys played beautiful fast football on the whole width of the field, carrying out attacks from the left, from the right, trying to pull apart with maneuvers, trying to punch the Blue Predators goalkeeper with long-range shots, but for a long time they could not do anything with him. In turn, opponents using any opportunity to counterattack and sometimes moved to our half of the field for a long time and with a large numbers, Gabi was especially dangerous. “We didn't expect such agility from him! We knew that he could do a lot of things, but that ... no, we didn't expect it," - Troger admitted after the game. - "We must always keep an eye on him, otherwise it's a disaster!" Obviously, 63 games with 46 goals on the international level is a very respectable result.

All the main events happened in 7 minutes in the middle of the first half. At first, our guys organized an attack in the center, Kerr was quite ready to end it with a shot, but he thought it best to let the ball go further, where Finnsnes put it into the net from the close range.

Image

Almost immediately, Kolding make a cross from the wing and Gulbranden tucked it nicely into the far corner.

Image

But less than two minutes after that our guys made a mistake in the center of the field, a quick counterattack followed, the defenders did not have time to figure out who was taking care of whom, and Gaby not only escaped the watchful eye of our players, but also got enough time to get the ball, put it down nicely and shot past the rushing towards goalkeeper.

Image

In the second half, Shaktail threw young guys into the battle in the center of the field, and those make life seriously difficulty for our players, two out of three substitutions were required by the players in the center of the field to compensate for this. A couple from Kota Lam Rangers especially distinguished themselves. But in the end, our guys coped with the pressure of their opponents and kept the winning score till the end.

But in the playoffs our guys will undoubtedly have a very difficult time: the opponents are the winners of Group D, Drawkland. Having scored three victories in the group stage, they summed up their performance there in a draw in the last game. In terms of ratings, they only slightly weaker than New Lusitania, which humiliated us so much, but we will only be able to find out what caused Drawkland's points loss in the last match when the teams enter the field. The game will take place not far from the places where we all spent the last week, the city of Eternare is just a little to the north, and, of course, a powerful army of our fans will follow the team and try to provide the guys with all possible support.

HUELAVIA MIRACULOUSLY ADVANCES TO THE LAST 16!

Terre Septentrionale 0–3 Tequilo
Seafoam Athletic Park, Saint Anne, Seafoam Islands

HUElavia came into Matchday 5 being on their "Bye Week," after completing their 4 matches in Group B. After these 4 matches, Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos were in 2nd Place (prior to the match) with 7 Points and a record of 2-1-1. What had them in second place was on the tiebreaker of +6 GD over Terre Septentrionale, who had a +2 GD with their 7 Points and a record of 2-1-0. Despite this, HUElavia was placed on life-support, where the match between Terre Septentrionale and Tequillo was going to decide their fate. A win for Terre Septentrionale or draw would eliminate the team in the Group Stage for the first time since IAC 5, but a win by Tequillo would put the reigning two-time finalist into the Last 16. Fans gathered all around the country in watch parties all around parks, plazas, bars and houses. Even a few hundreds of HUElavians bought tickets to the stadium to watch the match in person. Back in the team Hotel, the team were gathered in chairs in front of the screen in the living room to watch the match. Coach Mendieta-Martinez sat with his son looking in anxiety for this match.

The match began and it couldn't have gone better than what the team and fans hoped for. Tequillo had a phenomenal match and were getting goals over a shell-shocked Terre Septentrionale. Each goal had the team in their hotel jump up and hug each other, cheering for the Tequillo. The teams couples of Hamada & Navarro, Ramirez & Duran, and the married Almeida couple hugged and kissed, while the father-and-son pair hugged and were happy with the scoreline. HUElavians were jumping and celebrating for each goal, almost as if Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos were playing themselves. The HUElavians in Seafoam Athletic Park were celebrating with the Tequiloa fans, and by the time they knew it, the scoreline was 0-3, and the fate was sealed: HUElavia will qualify for the Round-of-16. The final whistle blew, and the players and staff hugged and celebrated while Coach Mendieta had a sigh of relief that his team advanced.

With the result, HUElavia advance from Group B as the runner-up and will now play against the winner of Group A, Schottia. Schottia won their group with a record of 3-0-1, for a total of 9 Points. For the 2nd straight tournament, the team will open up the Round-of-16 with their knockout match. This will be played at Revolution Park, in Falconbarrow, Strathavon. The main XI will be playing as starters, and while HUElavia has the experience, they look to not waste this chance to make history and advance one game at a time. Fans will hope and pray for the team to play well and advance.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

Football in Kohnhead Talk Show

Episode 2: Onto Poafmersia

Finn Herman: Hello and welcome back to the Football in Kohnhead talk show, I'm your host Finn Herman from KSPN and joining me today are three people. First we have Lillian Barter returning, Lillian being the Senior Writer over at KNN. So glad to have you back for episode 2 Lillian.

Lillian: Thanks for having me Finn

Finn: We also have Jonathon Blackmon back who is also from KSPN. Welcome back Jonathon.

Jonathon: Hi Finn, happy to be hear again.

Finn: And lastly we are joined by Theo Monroe who is a writer for the Kohnhead City Gazette for the first time on the show. Welcome Theo

Theo: Thanks for inviting me to join Finn

Finn: So we are still here in the IAX as the group stage ended after the last matchday. Lillian how did The Brains do during the Group Stage?

Lillian: The Brains actually dominated the group starting off by crushing Juvencus 3-0 in their opening match which was pretty unexpected. We then drew Fleuronordicia at 0 but didn't look back after that beating Port Ember 3-2 in a classic, before finally barely pulling out of the win against Blotropolis in our final match to clinch the group at 10 points.

Finn: If I remember correctly not one of us predicted a first place finish in our group so The Brains just like normal beat all expectations. Now Jonathon they managed to knock off both Port Ember and Blotropolis without Linus Rallyton what happened to him and how's he doing?

Jonathon: Well Rallyton injured his calf during our draw to Fleuronordicia and while it wasn't confirmed everyone assumed he would be out of the rest of the tournament definitely and would probably miss domestic time. Yet the doctors have said he could be cleared to play in the Finals if we were to make it that far and he will definitely be ready for the domestic season over in SRS.

Finn: Theo who are we playing in the round of 16 and are they good?

Theo: Well we have been drawn against Poafmersia (audible groan) which is definitely not optimal. Our most recent history with them involved our U-21 team losing to theirs by 3 goals. Despite the fact that they came in second of their group to the newcomers from Squidroidia after Squidroidia managed to beat them 2-1 I would rather play Squid. Poafmersia is an established side and will be hungry to get the win especially after failing to win their group.

Jonathon: I agree, us getting drawn against Poafmersia isn't a death blow but it is a very difficult matchup. Even if we manage to beat Poafmersia the bottom side of the bracket looks extremely difficult as we would have to play the winner of the Reçueçn vs Squornshelan Remnant States match with both sides being quite experienced. We do have a history against SRS having lost and drawn them in our WC qualifying group.

Lilian: It certainly doesn't get easier from there as our path to the Semis in the unlikely result that we make it there goes through Drawkland, Tequilo, Trolleborg, or TJUN-ia none of which are pushovers and we have a bad history against both Drawkland and Tequilo.

Finn: Okay let's evaluate how the players have performed. Theo how has Audrey Henderson played as the new starter.

Theo: Well we haven't really gotten a full picture of her as a starter as she got a red card in the 0-0 draw against Fleuronordicia very early on about 13 minutes in causing her to miss the Port Ember match. She played extremely well against Juvencus in our opener but was only okay against Blotropolis in our most recent game. Overall I'd say it's been a positive with her and it will benefit us against Poafmersia.

Finn: We talked about Linus Rallyton's injury earlier, Lillian how has Al Torgan played in his absence.

Lillian: I'd say quite well actually. Torgan has two goals, one as a sub in for Cogginter against Juvencus and he also scored the winner against Port Ember which was massive. He hasn't been Rallyton level but the Capital FC starter hasn't been a slouch.

Finn: Jonathon how has Bertha Sanders done in goal?

Jonathon: I'd say Sanders has proved all the doubters wrong and has looked fantastic in our four games allowing only three goals a very good mark. She has really stepped into the role and while she hasn't been the best communicator she continues to make the necessary saves. She will be vital if we want to beat Poafmersia.

Finn: Before we wrap this up I want to ask for everyone's predictions on how far we go and our score against Poafmersia

Theo: I think we beat Poafmersia 2-1 but lose in the quarters to cap off an excellent debut IAC.

Jonathon: I say we lose to Poaf on pens after it being 1-1 after two periods of extra time.

Lillian: I think we lose to Poafmersia 3-1 as we once again fail to get past the round of 16.

Finn: As for me I have us beating Poafmersia 2-0 but falling in the quarters. I want to thank everyone for listening and to thank Lillian, Jonathon, and Theo for joining me today. The first one was really successful so we will be doing more of these and soon incorporating domestic Kohnheadian football.

Sylestone get narrow victory over Gekkeom to play defending champions in Round of 16
Oh well, at least we tried. We had to try if we were to come first. It simply didn’t work. And what’s worse, is that we’ve been requested to use the 4-4-2 formation for the rest of the tournament. Oh well.
The worst thing about the narrow 3-2 victory, though, is that Sylestone now plays New Lusitania, the defending champs from IAC 9, in the Round of 16. They are not expected to win, but to give them a run for their money is the goal. If they can somehow progress, it will surely be one of the best fairytale stories the IAC has to offer. They’ll have to look back on their best games: The 2-1 victory over Eastfield Lodge in the WC85 qualifiers, the 3-3 draw with Drawkland last week, the 5-1 victory against Megistos and the 4-3 win against the Independent Athletes from Quebec in the last Cup of Harmony. But don’t expect anything, OK?

Gekkeom shocked the napping Sylestone defence in the second minute when their forward snuck through the defence and hit a curving long shot into the corner of the goal to go 1-0 into the lead. The lead didn’t last long, though, as in the 29th minute, the Fridge kept the ball inside him and ran straight into the goal. The score remained 1-1 for the remainder of the first half, and only a brilliant save by the Ironing Board in front of an open goal stopped the score being 2-1.

“What the fuck are we doing? What is happening? Why? The Ironing Board kept the entire defence together today, and it is only due to him that we aren’t already 5-1 down. We need to step this up. We need five goals next half, and it’s probably not going to happen. But it could, and you’ve got to believe. We just need to give it our best shot.” This was what the Toaster said in the half-time break and his words seemed to help.

Early in the second half, in the 50th minute, the Mixer broke through the defence and passed it to the Tumble Dryer. He flung it at the goal so hard that although the ball went a foot to the left of the keeper, he didn’t even see it until it hit the back of the net. 2-1 Sylestone. Yet another goal was scored in the 62nd minute when Spiderwebs cleared the ball from just behind the halfway mark. The Bar Stool, playing in the forward line trying to get a few more goals, headed the ball into the crossbar and back down into the goal. A 6-1 victory looked possible and the Drawkland side was watching anxiously, hoping it didn’t happen. They were in luck. The Gekkeom defence had finally got smart to the Appliances’ offensive manoeuvres to not let any more goals in. it seemed as though Sylestone were going to end up with a 3-1 victory; a good show of their skills, but not satisfying. It didn’t happen that way. In the 88th minute, a desperate Gekkeom midfielder slammed the ball from just in front of the halfway mark, and miraculously, into the goal. It stayed 3-2 until the final whistle blew.

Sylestone is now pitted against New Lusitania, the defending champions, in the round of 16. The money is heavily against them as the New Lusitania side is very strong, having won all four games so far. But Sylestone has played very, very well so far and just upping their game a bit might be sufficient to somehow get some sort of result. The Sylestonean football fans are waiting very impatiently for the game. Join us tomorrow for some live coverage.

It was just the lack of sleep, as it turned out. When Hansel saw Pete once again the very next day on the field, all feelings was gone. It was as though everything came back to normal, and that nothing of the last 2 days had happened. The training session on the bye day was really just practice and various situations, such as set pieces and penalties, where Poafmersia's weakness lie.
Somehow Hansel still felt something weird. The training went unusually smooth, with Hansel scoring all the penalties that they practiced the morning - even more than Shakira or Pete did. In fact, the 100% penalty conversation rate also made manager Adnan really surprised, and he joked that "Shakira should give up his penalty taker position," although the position of penalty taker was a rather fluid position and Shakira already started giving away those chances to others like Pete and Joel. She performed really well that day, putting in more than 110% effort. Maybe this was just her personal reaction. She has experienced being at the bottom of things before - her club had once performed badly domestically and despite she making into the team of the season, she felt really bad she wasn't able to get the goals to get enough wins. It wasn't just Hansel's performance that improved. Pete, Gisiik and Daas all put in really hard work to ensure that they could make a nice performance in the Round of 16.
That afternoon, the team watched as Squidroidia defeated Abanhfleft 5-2 to become group champions. For the players, it was quite okay - they got an easier Round of 16 matchup against Group F winners Kohnhead instead of runners-up Port Ember. The only problem was the continuation, because being in the bottom half of the draw meant that the teams they face are strong sides after strong sides. First it would be the winner of Reçueçn v Squornshelan Remnant States - sides which Poafmersia are very familiar with. The former was our qualification group mates last cycle, the latter was in our first CoH group. Then TJUN-ia, Tequila, Drawkland or Trolleborg came in the semifinals. Drawkland are a really strong side, but their Round of 16 opponents are no pushovers, as Poafmersia would remember from that night where they defeated us in the Baptism of Fire. Fellow North Pacifican TJUN-ia, who also came through our BoF, play Tequilo, one of the top sides from the last BoF. Whoever remains in the semifinals would be a difficult match for Poafmersia to play.
Of course, the other half of the draw looked simpler on paper, but the difficulty shouldn't be underestimated. Schottia play HUElavia, with the latter the favourites considering that they were the silver medalists last edition. But Schottia should give it their all, as they aim to cause an upset. Defending champions New Lusitania would play Sylestone, and it is very likely that last year's finalists would play each other in the quarters. The weaker side of the top half is also quite interesting, with 2 5th seeds Squidroidia and Woryand play Port Ember and Indusse respectively.
Whatever the case, the IAC has became more interesting, with teams here getting stronger year by year. Faced with such challenges, Poafmersia would aim to get even stronger, and the battle starts with the match in Lisbon, Great Arden, where we take on Kohnhead. Joel Haodao would probably miss the match due to a knock against Squidroidia which means Hansel gets back on the starting lineup.

Starting 11 against Kohnhead: Sandi Jaliaha; Alex Pickford, Danzik Hoboson (c), Nasri Sanchez, Natalia Abbott; Gisiik Moonar, Woden Sweet, Daas Taisg; Hansel Tang, Shakira Handris, Pete Carisa
IC Name: The People's Republic of Poafmersia (Trigram: PFA)

CITY OF FOOTBALL
The Dislocated

Continuing our series on the controversial and some might say hardly credible plans of the Tequiloan FA - the Unión de Pitxi Tequilo - to build a city of football from which to launch an assault on the upper echelons of world football; and further to our sensational revelation that the UPT’s Technical Director Dik ten Beuenk is none other than Bonesea football architect Pythagoras Jones - still not denied by the UPT, we note - today we ask: what about all the people living in Quezaldad’s 2.5 square kilometres of rubble where the City of Football will emerge - where are they now and what do they think? Speaking of rubble, what about the rumours about… things… unearthed during the demolition phase?

THE DISLOCATED

The old district of Quetzaldad in Tapalupé had its attractions and a certain charm - kilometres of narrow alleyways and shutts full of traders of dubious wares, intoxicants, and life-affirming (or exterminating) adventures; ‘lively’ markets; rambunctious mariachi and latin shanties; pickpockets, shiners, rum cullies, tricksters, brazen trollops, bold deceivers and sharps; all types of the rodent genus including but not limited to sewer rats, street rats, desert rats, cactus rats, tile rats, strutting rats, dog rats and the famously aggressive alley rats; overcoat confectioners and tobacconists; shamans and brujas and even a few wights-in-residence; all manner of wild tapas, grills and barbecues; beer sloshing everywhere; bent coppers, runaway soldiers and drunk sailors; every girl and/or guy of your dreams shoulder to shoulder with those of your nightmares; shrunken heads and goatballs; wisdom, knowledge, experience, joy, delight, and terror; gold trinkets that cost nowt but spare change and pig nickel chips that would’ve cost you everything… it wasn’t for the faint of heart.

All that is gone now - or going; buried under a thousand tons of rubble. Everything came down.

But where has everyone gone, and what do they think about their former den of a thousand iniquities, cemented now in the foundations of a sporting dream and shiny architectural delights? Rubèn Curto grew up in Quetzaldad’s narrow and lively alleyways, the son of a tanner or hidemonger. We spoke to him about his life in the district, and the time that came for him to be relocated. He went to school in the overcrowded rooms of the institution buildings, and left when he was eleven to collect faeces for the tannery - “five chèlins for a handful” - and under his father’s watchful eye, he refused to join the local gang or cuadrilla, The Many Hands; he spent his youth kicking a can down the alleys or reading second-hand books he bought with his shitmoney or which he stole from outside old bookshops. Later he earned a living selling overpriced trinkets to tourists and lost people - well, mostly lost people - and discovered he had an eye for antiques. His work strayed into valuations for thieves looking to fence stolen goods, he worked the occasional auction and got a stall at one of the famous character night markets. Sometimes he boosted his income as a taxi driver, or rarely, as a tour guide. He settled down with his childhood sweetheart Ginebra Pintà; they were making plans to have a family of their own, right there in the heart of Quetzaldad, although they reserved their most lavish dreams for a win on La Lotería and a fancy beach-house in Antivador. Looking back, Rùben is unequivocal about his life in ‘Queto’ as the locals call it:

“What a shitswamp,” he says, reminiscing. And then one day, the order came from the city planners. Queto was to be razed. Rùben was being moved to Chanco Condor, a village sixty kilometres away. “I mean, this place is no paradise, but Queto was the devil’s own septic tank. Thank the patron wights they are burying it.”

§

In the next episode - What Lies Beneath. The last resting place of the Zenegalese ‘Cannibal Mobster’, General Chukwumeka? The Loco Nez Monster - a flea the size of an adult whiskey rat and twice as angry? The Arca Pacto, one of the nation’s most valuable lost treasures? A secret chamber offering passage to the Dreamed Realm? These are just some of the rumours about what was discovered when Quetzaldad was razed… but what is the truth? And was it as grim as one might expect?

Player of the Match: Ecuador

Perhaps boosted by the announcement back home that, since the Agave-Blues had qualified for the knockout stages, the UPT - the FA to you and me - would be issuing full caps to the team as opposed to the planned development team certificates, Los Pitxileros put in their best performance yet as they hit their stride against fierce opposition and came out well ahead at the end. For Tequilo that ensures a 100% record in the group stage and another pleasing statistic, being the third senior tournament the team have competed in and still no defeats at the group stage. Well done boys! For Terre Septentrionale this was a disappointing exit with qualification to the next stage in their hands and only a draw required; but to the delight of thousands of HUElavios who came along to cheer on the Agave-Blues and who qualify in second place, the Nordiques seemed to freeze in the spotlight and will have been disappointed to fall at the last hurdle. Striker Ecuador once again led from the front to win the man of the match award, grabbing two goals and an assist for his efforts, while young debutant Turbolito escaped an injury scare after a poor tackle by Franciszek Niedzwiecki which led to the penalty and third goal.

Coach Luka Entenza will benefit from the return of Ostando Bertendona and Martín Colon for the round of sixteen tie against TJUN-ia, following their suspensions from the last game after collecting two yellow cards each, with Ephraïm Kanyinda and Turbolito dropping to the bench in their place. Centreback José Tavia is also named in the starting line-up for the first time since the opening game when he picked up a knock in the victory over HSOWA; while Cio Çenturion comes into the midfield in place of Milan Lucio, who is rested. The strong performances of stand-in keeper Nícer Fiallo keep him in the starting eleven despite first choice Tepin Macatl-Rubio’s return to full fitness - he will sit this one on the bench.

Starting Line-Up for TEQUILO vs. TJUN-ia:
Nícer Fiallo | Ostando Bertendona, José Tavia, Tol Chicote, Enzo Morterero | Noah Vergara | Xaime Medal (Capitan), Cio Çenturion, Martín Colon | Ito & Ecuador

Venue: Stadium of the Occident, Westhaven, West Calaverde

The game against Hopal could have been a major upset. Reçueçn was first in the group. Hopal was last. But the game provided no surprises. Two early goals from Hebron and Lebo gave les licornes the lead they needed to sit back and play out the rest of the game, as one might have expected. The uneventful game underscored the irony of the opening match against Indusse when Reçueçn had run up six goals against Indusse, the only other team to make it out of the group. Football is weird sometimes.

Tremblay, the manager, called a team meeting immediately after the match and the team gathered in the locker-room. Most of the players sat on the benches which were in a ring around the edge of the room. Firaut was in his spot by the door. Adams and Cutrona leaned against the wall in the corner. Tremblay himself only said a few words before letting Relié, the assistant coach, take over. The septuagenarian head coach's age was beginning to show unavoidably, especially when compared with his fiery understudy.

"First, les gars," Tremblay said, "great game. Everything according to plan. I want to commend you all, that was played very well and you never had me doubting. Then we have some words to say about what's coming next, and Bonheur will fill you in."

Relié took over with zeal, pacing around the locker-room to take turns looking all the different players in the eye. "Alright, so obviously that game wins us the group and sets us up for the next match against the Confederacy," he began.

"Now, the group stage was easy, but none of the games we'll be playing from here on out will be. Remember Indusse? Who we thrashed six-zero? They won second. Hopal, who we just played? Didn't win a single game. Remember when we had a fucking day off? I don't want you to think of any of that as part of the IAC. Those games were training—they were, no, they weren't even training, they were friendlies. The tournament starts now." Relié paused in his pacing, an index finger thrust toward the floor. He looked around accusatorily. "This is where our journey to taking a second cup home begins." He ignored Franky Adams, exaggeratedly whispering into Cutrona's ear, "He means championship."

"We're starting over." Relié didn't pause a moment; he let none of the intensity escape. "I want you to throw out whatever progress we've made, wherever you are physically, emotionally, mentally—and forge a new mindset. I want you to go out there next game and play as if it was the first game of your tournament. Play like you've got something to prove."

Firaut looked around at the others as Relié continued. It had been a while since he'd given a speech this impassioned. Clearly he and Tremblay thought this next game would be important and was something worth making a scene over. Normally at this point in the evening, after a dominant group-stage-clinching win, the team would be celebrating already, Tremblay and Relié allowing just one evening off with an extra day before the next game. But that wasn't going to be the case. Firaut wouldn't have been half surprised if Relié had ordered them back onto the pitch for more practice.

Firaut thought his teammates looked like they were getting the message. Saunders looked grim. Kayserling was staring at the floor, but his jaw was set and his brow lowered. Even Adams had lost his joking smile of a moment before. Schöner, the newest recruit, was leaning back, wide-eyed, a healthy fear of Relié shining in his. Firaut and many of the vets had gotten to the point where the assistant manager's threats and curses had lost their intimidating edge, and now served only as the occasional reminder not to let the intensity slide. But Firaut could tell it still rattled some of the newer players. He still wasn't sure he felt that was a great strategy—did Relié want the team to be rattled? Was being rattled good? But Firaut still had implicit trust in Tremblay, and as he glanced at his face, he saw him softly smiling. None of this had come as a surprise to him clearly. He had probably known—no, Firaut saw it now—Tremblay had specifically requested the rant this time. He must think it was okay then; he must think it was needed.

Firaut had no time to ponder what events had led the coach to come to this decision—Reçueçn had won all their games but one, and was a draw against Fujai all that bad? But Relié was wrapping up.

"Our next game will be here, in this same stadium," Relié was saying, his voice now in a slow decrescendo. "That doesn't mean things will be easy, or that you can lounge around: that means more practice time. I will be with you, watching you practice and train and work out, and it. will. be. constant. There are no more easy games, and there are no more easy games."

"That doesn't mean, however," and his tone was softer now, "that we don't know anything about our opponents. Many of you will remember we played the Confederacy three cycles ago, in the IAC group stage that time. They're a mostly balanced side, and we played out a draw... Harold, Maynard, you guys scored I remember." He cleared his throat. "Well, we've come a long way since then. Back in IAC 7 we hadn't ever qualified for the world cup, and we've done that three times since then. So I want to see some evidence of that. The Confederacy is the first team that is going to get the chance to send us home, and you cannot give that to them. If I thought it would be easy to stop them, I wouldn't be talking to you right now, and you'd all be out drinking. It's going to be hard, and frankly, we're worried you won't do it. But like I said, we've come a long way since the last time we played them, and I want to see that. Lukas, you'll be building a wall in the back. I want another clean sheet. We know Gerauld will do his part, so you and the back line do yours. Harold, you and the midfield will be keeping them guessing. And Franky, it's on you to get past Krieven as many times as possible."

"I'll be meeting with each of you individually to assign marks and go over the information you'll need." Relié turned on his heel and behan to head out. Tremblay got up to follow him. But Relié had one more thing to say. He paused in the doorway and turned.

"Remember. The tournament. starts. now."

SO FAR SO GOOD
New Lusitania 1-0 Sharktail
@Stade de l'Independence (Att: 49 956)

The Lusitanian team had one final game before finishing their group stage run, against Sharktail. For the Selecção Qualifying was done, since Trolleborg had lost meaning there was the head to head advantage even if a loss were to happen. Although this permitted some changes. Monteiro and Vilaça (in for Santos and Ferradura respectively, following a late appeal from the federation) both got their first team starts in the competition meaning only one player from the twenty-three (goalkeeper Ramos) still hadn't played a minute. With the team back in the big stadium, it was kick-off time. The first-half had once again been a tough nut to crack as the score remained goalless. Vilaça was showing promise in his defensive skills whilst a Monteiro on the peak of his career was now providing good chances in the Selecção even if none had gone in so far. The second half started and the teams were locked into a fierce midfield battle once again providing some good action and ability but no end-to-end football like the fans would possibly prefer. The winning goal, the only goal in the entire match came from the foot of Paciência who had started the match in Silveira's position. A pass from Monteiro gave the Guimarães player all he needed to put it away. Although later on a late entry by Trincal almost gave a second, it was declared offside by the linesman - a correct decision as his leg is clearly sticking out behind the defender. As full time came around, New Lusitania had officially won the group with four wins from four matches. Trolleborg's win against Havynwilde (0-1) meant they kept second place but also qualified with just six points due to their remaining matches between themselves.
Group A had TJUN-ia cruise past Hwiccemark by 1-4 at Revolution Park and Omerica only getting a one all draw with Space, which meant the hosts, Schottia and TJUN-ia could still qualify. Despite mathematics, the hosts were confident on their soil advantage but come the final day of the first phase, disaster struck. As TJUN-ia grabbed a late one in Falconbarrow to make it 2-1, Schottia were beating the Hwiccemarkian team by 2-0 and when the whistle blew Omerica was out. Schottia lept from third to first meanwhile on the direct confrontation rule.
In Group B, Tequilo had secured qualification after an easy 5-2 victory to Natanya in Westhaven having made nine points. Omerica had beaten Hot Skitty on Wailord Action by a 1-3 margin but with that being the lusophones' team last game they had to hope Terre Septentrionale didn't make a point with both sides currently on seven. Fortunately, fate had been on their side. Tequilo was the only other team with a four victories run after a good 0-3 Victory which made it feel like the northerners were never really in it. "Hot Skitty" may have been out but their 1-4 victory to Natanya meant pride was still very much on the agenda.
Group D had made clear who had gone through when Drawkland beat Silver Beach 2-4 meaning Sylvestone was untouchable, but with the current runners-up with one game less would the Kick Corps maintain the group victory. It would take a whole five goals to change the situation, something they couldn't deliver as they would have to settle for a 3-2 win with Drawkland first on goal difference. Silver Beach maintained third as Darkmania disappointed with a fifth.
Group E had the particularity of having the runners-up qualify first as Poafmersia couldn't lose an eventual three-way tie following their defeat to leaders Squidrodia. Abanhfleft kept themselves in the game with a 4-2 victory over Sajnur but the final day saw the flip side of the coin for them with a 2-5 loss to the Squids, with Sajnur disappointing with a bottom place finish following a defeat to Kayangan (1-0), pushing them up to third.
Group F kept the Kohnhead hype going as they took the group at the end of their games with ten points following a 2-1 win to Blotropolis which Port Ember mirrored with Juvencus in "Lisbon of Omerica" as the port got their needed point in the final match with a goalless draw against Fleuronordicia (which had started well but had decreased in form), leaving Blotropolis in the group stage.
In Group G there were no worries for Woryand which had clinched their win as well following a victory to Devonta (0-1) as the SRS beat the Calculator 5-0 in a game where they showed what made them that dangerous with incessant attacks and a solid defence. The final game was second against third and whilst Kriegiersien held it well, the Squornshelans ended up with a 2-4 win which put them through. Devonta finished last in what too was a short and disappointing campaign.
Group H had been the feature this entire time and it had gone as we expected - to the wire. After three matchdays, four teams stood on four points meaning Matchday Four was a big one. At Port-des-Saints, Indusse got a disappointing 1-1 draw with Hopal, who celebrated their first point as Megistos were set back a tad by a late Reçueçn winner to put them ahead on seven. Anyone could still take it in Matchday five, but Indusse currently in second had played all their matches meaning they hoped for a miracle. The big day came and did it have some great action. Over in Nassau, Reçueçn disposed of Hopal over a 2-0 victory announcing their serious candidacy for the title. Fujai and Megistos were third and fourth meaning a win for either side meant that they'd take second. It was nerve-wracking - heads were lost, decisions were questioned - but in the end the psychological game took the best of them and Indusse progressed albeit unlikely as a goalless draw had been the result between the two teams.
After Matchday five's events we spoke to the coach about their next match against Sylvestone: "They may seem like a smaller team but I don't think their performances reflect that, finishing equal on points with Drawkland is an impressive feat and their attacking prowess is certainly one of their strengths meaning our defence will have a lot of work to do. We'll try to exploit any weakness we can and then try to move on to the next round".

Serron had been a Black-and-Reds fan as long as he could remember.

He could just about recall the triumphant win over Drawkland four years ago. At least, he thought he remembered it. His mother often retold the story. How he'd been rapt with fascination for nearly every minute, and him not quite four years old. "Football's the only way to get him to sit still for more than thirty seconds," she would tell her friends. Everyone always laughed at that, but he didn't think it was very funny. Of course he sat still for football. It was interesting. Sitting still was boring. Why would he sit still for no reason?

Last night had been another good one. It was frustrating sometimes though. The Black-and-Reds had scored the first goal. Zoban Ajao scored a header on a corner kick. Ajao was one of Serron's favorite players. The other team had scored after that though. Serron had trouble saying their name. It was Kreeger-something, but the second part of it was hard to remember. The scoring player's name was easy though: Wu. Serron wondered if maybe they could get her to play for the Black-and-Reds. He wasn't sure if you could do that, but it would be cool if you could. Anyway, the captain, Lomidan scored a goal right after halftime and they were back in the lead. Serron had been focused all that day on being on his best behavior, so he would be allowed to stay up late and watch, and he was just as focused on the action on the screen. Serron was sure he was much and better at paying attention now than he had been before. He was turning eight in a few weeks after all, and much more grown up now. He had a little sister, Kirsikka, to take responsibility for now. It was a lot of hard work, and Kirsikka didn't make things easy.

Like right now. Serron was trying to tell her about last night's match, and the knockout stages of the IAC that were coming up next, but she seemed much more interested in the bright yellow toy car that she was studiously pushing back and forth over the couch cushion.

"So then after Lomidan scored, the Kreegers did, and then it was tied again, but Ajao got another goal. He's the best striker ever!"

"No, go away!" Kirsikka shouted.

"Kirsi!" He dragged her name out into a whine. "You have to listen to me, I'm your big brother."

"NO!" Sometimes it seemed like that was the only word she knew. Kirsikka pushed the car into his leg. It didn't hurt, not really, but it gave him an idea. Serron reached down and grabbed the car away from her.

"NO! MINE!"

"Just pay attention for a minute and you can have it back!"

"Terron!" She still had trouble with the letter S.

"Stop yelling ok, I'm just trying to tell you about the match."

"MOM!"

"No, no, stop. Fine, here have it back." He thrust the car at her and got up off the couch. She was so annoying, always trying to get him in trouble over nothing. Unfortunately, his attempted escape wasn't in time. His mother arrived from the other room, where she and his father had been working on something, he wasn't sure what.

"Serron, what's going on?"

"I didn't do anything, I was just trying to tell Kirsi about the match, but she won't pay attention."

"Serron, honey, if Kirsi doesn't want to talk about football, you can't force her to."

"I just wanted to talk about it with her."

"I know, Serron, but she isn't as interested in it as you are, and that's ok. She's still young."

"I watched football when I was her age though, you always say!"

"You did, but you know what? Some people never get interested in football, even after they grow up. There's all kinds of people out there, interested in all kinds of things."

"Well I just want her to be interested in football."

"Someday she might, but if you try to force her, she'll just get angry with you. Here, I'll get a pencil and paper and you can write down what you want to say about the match, that way you can always come back and read it and remember how you felt, and maybe if Kirsi is interested later, you can read it to her. You can also try to use some of your new vocabulary words from school."

Mom could be strict sometimes, but she had a lot of good ideas. Serron sat down at the kitchen table and started writing, and his mom helped him spell some of the harder words, like Kriegiersien and Reçueçn (he had never seen a 'c' with a squiggly line under it before). Pretty çoon, he felt better.

Dear Diary,
last night the Black-and-Reds played Kriegiersien
We won 4-2
Zoban Ajao got 2 goals
Jirar Lomidan and Rudi Dalso also scored
next we play Reçueçn
they are a pretty good team because they qualified for the World Cup three times before
people on the news say we will probably lose
but I think we can win because we have really good players
and our new manager is smart and tells them what to do
I think we can definitely win the championship this time

P.S. Kirsi is annoying and only cares about her dumb kid toys
maybe I can get a different sister

Round-Of-16 Cold Intro

Remember that feeling you had the other day? It was like getting a blow to the gut. Agony and Despair was all around HUElavians. It nearly had a physical manifestation. "Oh, the ball has hit the post! My God, the HUElavians must be suffering." We were panicked, scared stiff. Staring down at the eyes of elimination. "All it takes is one goal, to determine whether one stays or leaves this competition..."

But in one moment, it changed from despair... "Oh, he's going to take the shot!" to delight.

"GGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!! Tequillo has scored!"

We got saved by the team that beat us earlier. Thanks to their performance, we're in the knockouts. Now, we take on Schottia. It's a simple rule to follow for us two and the other 14 teams: Win, and your dream continues to the Quarter-Finals. Lose, and it's a long trip home.

Today, we rely on nobody else for our dream. We rely on ourselves. We rely on our stars.

Cristiano. Ayuka, Marc. Lionel. Natalia. Andres. Kira. Jean. Elenor. Raul. Jose.

We rely on these 11 names, that we chant on a first-name basis, hoping for them not only to bring glory to themselves, but to HUElavia.

So, have faith and pray to whichever Deity you may worship. Be there for the team, because with them on the pitch and us in the stadium and around the multiverse, nothing is impossible. Today is the true beginning to the IAC.

HUELAVIA ADVANCES TO THE ELITE EIGHT OF THE IAC!

Schottia 2-3 HUElavia
(Martel-Burns 52', Hare 82' | Cristiano 7', Gallego 78', Smirnov 90+1')
Revolution Park, Falconbarrow, Republic of Strathavon

For the 3rd straight time, HUElavia participated in the knockout stage of the IAC. It was a difficult route for them to advance, given that they had to rely on outside help in order to clinch their spot into the Round-of-16. With this advance, their next opponents were: Schottia. The surprise Group A winner was looking to make a deep run and pull a big upset in the tournament, which HUElavia wanted to make sure it would be snuffed out. The match was set as the opening match of the knockouts, which Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos were participating in for the 2nd consecutive edition. The match was played at Revolution Park (41,000), in Falconbarrow, an Anglophone city. The stadium was sold out, with a little over 50% of the stadium being HUElavians, they took up an entire end zone as they traditionally do. The players came onto the pitch to a grand roar from the fans, the anthems were played, the coin was flipped and the ball rolled to start the knockouts.

The match was a see-saw match, with momentum moving back and forth like a pendulum between both teams. Both displayed a cautious style of attack, sending passes and crosses left and right as precise as possible to prevent the other team from spawning a counterattack. The opening goal would come in the 7th minute, when Salgado was facing off against Keifer, seeing Cristiano sprinting past a defender, where she passed the ball to him, where he chipped it over Lorrey and into the goal to make it 0-1. The crowd erupted with the goal, jumping and cheering to make the stadium rumble, as traditionally it is done. Cristiano ran to the corner flag to do a power stance, while his teammates came to hug and congratulate him for the goal, as well as to Salgado. Schottia would make shots left and right, trying to tie the game, but Lobato would make saves left and right, punching out the balls, or catching them to stop them in their tracks. At half-time, the scoreline read 0-1.

The second half kicked off and Schottia began to attack some more. They began to get deep into HUElavian territory, where the defense or Lobato had to clear out the ball in what look desperate by their standards. Eventually, the equalizer would fall in the 52nd minute, when Fernandez-Roux gave a hard tackle to Luna, which the referee called for a free kick 24 yards out, and gave the Franc-HUElavian defender a yellow card. Martel-Burns took up the free kick and put it over the wall and past a diving Lobato who put his fingertips onto the ball into the goal to tie it at 1-1. Martel-Burns celebrated with her teammates in front of the Schottian crowd. The match resumed and both played a very cautious level of football, but still getting chances against each other, having Lobato and Lorrey make saves to keep the scoreline tied. Eventually, in the 78th minute, a foul by Koller on Hamada gave way for a free kick 27 yards out. It looked as if Rossi was going to take it, but Gallego opted to take the kick. Gallego took the shot over the wall and past Lorrey who stood still into the goal to make it 1-2. Gallego ran up in front of the HUElavian crowd who were jumping and cheering loudly, while he was mobbed by the players on the pitch. Although, this lead was short-lived, as in the 82nd minute, a cross from substitute Arniston during a corner kick went into the box, and Hare won the header over Smirnov, where the ball went past Lobato and into the goal to tie it at 2-2. The Schottian crowd roared as one and jumped to celebrate as well while Hare was mobbed by his teammates. It looked as if extra time was coming and 3 minutes of additional time was given. Eventually, substitute Villca won a corner after taking a kick that deflected off Hare. Ramirez took the kick and up came Smirnov, who headed it down and it went between the legs of Keifer to go into the goal to make it a definitive 2-3. The crowd erupted and jumped with passion and joy, making the stadium rumble, while Smirnov was mobbed by her teammates and the bench that came running to her. After a few extra minutes added due to the celebrations, HUElavia held out and won the match 2-3, advancing to the Quarter-Finals once again.

With the victory, HUElavia advances to the Quarter-Finals for the 3rd time (both consecutive and overall). Their opponent is a historic one: New Luisitania. The Finalists of IAC 9 will meet in a very high-stakes and morbid match to open up the Quarter-Finals. The reigning champions won their game against Sylestone 3-2 at Stade Just-Cartier, in Charlescourt. The match will be held at Stade Saint-André (50,000), in Brétolles, Westavon, a Gallophone region. The stadium is expected to be sold out for the match, with it very likely being 50-50 for HUElavians and Luisitanians. The team looks to avenge the shocking 4-3 defeat in Curumba 4 years ago, and they want to make it up to the HUElavian fans all around the multiverse. The fans feel anxious, but also want to see their team win. Cities all across the country are prepared for massive watch parties, as well as any potential rioting, regardless of the result. It is a massive match, but the bookies view this as an "Evens" match, given that the teams are basically on the same level in every regard. It will be a passionate match and the team looks for redemption while the fans are more than willing to support their team, regardless of what happens.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

Boot It!: At Least We Made It Here At All

By Peter Davis
Tequilo 3-1 TJUN-ia
Martín Colon (21', 65'), Ito (86')/Vladimir Podolov (41')

And that's the end of that. 71 beat 72 in Westhaven, but Tequilo definitely deserved it. Luka Entenza knew what system he wanted to play, and he did it to perfection. Martín Colon always found ways to get past our defence and he did that brilliantly while Ito put the icing on the cake with his header from a corner.

TJUN-ia did play well and Podolov did tie the game just before half time, it's just that Los Pitxileros came into the 2nd the hungrier side and had more chances with the ball. It was a good performance, it's just Tequilo were the better side. Nothing wrong with losing to a team who are clearly on a path to success in their 1st IAC and 2nd WC. Tequilo in IACX is just TJUN-ia in IAC9 - but better in many ways. The small region of Pletoria has a serious sporting power on its hands, and one the other 5 nations will be hoping stays within its boundaries.

As for us, we move on. Li Xiu Ying may still have the IAC bragging rights for now, but David Seems must turn his focus elsewhere. WC86 is on the horizon, and this time it is Newmanistan and Drawkland (who we could've faced if we won) who will be the gracious hosts. 18 groups of 10 nations are on the cards - winners qualifying automatically with 6 best 2nd-placed teams, the other top 2 teams heading into playoffs to decide the final 6 teams for the finals. This means fewer games in the group stage, which means TJUN-ia will have only 18 games in order to try and make the top 2 for the first time and even then, we might have to play in the playoffs in order to make it to the promised land itself.

But this will be the best side TJUN-ia has presented to the footballing world in history. 72nd in the WCC guarantees us a place in Pot 4 of the draw, no matter what happens during the upcoming BoF. We will be considered one of the "challengers" to the top 2 for the first time in our history.

The Jaguars have made it to these heights from nothing. Now, we must prove ourselves among the elite of the WCC. GO JAGS!

Unstoppable force.

Makino Hideo, crosses to Hoshi, finds JUN! And that's #4 for the Inklings! Port Ember is going home, and Squidroidia are for certain moving on!

Immovable object.

What a save by Grēnwā! Woryand with yet another clean sheet, THEY BEAT INDUSSE!

One thing is common between these 2 nations. They have never been in competitive competition before arriving here. And here they are. Quarter-Final, Syracuse, Omerica. The biggest game in the history of both nations. The prize - A Semi-Final clash against either HUElavia or the defending champions New Lusitania.

For Squidroidia, a nation priding itself on football, the majority humans and the minority Inkling population have banded together to fly the blue and white flag of their people. They have been nearly perfect throughout the campaign, only a blemish against Sajnur has prevented them from a perfect group stage record. And they have already beaten powerhouses like Poafmersia, Abanhfleft and Port Ember.

For Woryand, the brick wall, working class team has tipped the odds in their favor throughout the tournament. They have conceded absolutely 0 goals, with Grēnwā an easy pick for the Golden Glove. It helped that all of their matches bar a draw with Kriegiersien ended in 1-0 victories for the newcomers to the competition. Now they look forward to making more history for their people.

This isn't a story about 2 random teams from outside the big 3 regions. This is a story of 2 dominating forces.

The immovable object.

Wilschut steps up to take the penalty...AND IT'S SAVED! THE GAME'S STILL 0-0! WORYAND IS STILL WELL IN IT!

The unstoppable force.

It's HOSHI! Itoh Hoshi has given them the lead against Poafmersia! What a moment for Squidroidian football!

Wōrēand. Squidroidia. Semi-final on the line. Only one will take it.

This is where one's journey ends.

Broadcast music

From the Stade Olympique in Syracuse, Omerica, SBN Sport welcomes you to the Quarter-Final matchup in the Independent Associations Championship between Squidroidia and Woryand. This stadium is packed to the brim with fans from both countries, both going on insane runs just to get here. But of course, only one of these underdogs will have the chance to take on one of the best nations in the Independents - Whether it is New Lusitania or HUElavia is up for them to decide between each other in Brétolles.

Hello and welcome to the commentary booth, I am Takanaki Osa, and with me for this historic Squidroidian football game is Robbie Smithus of 3sport! Robbie, how are you doing today?

Well I am doing quite fine for myself today, Osa. It helps when you only travel between 2 cities for your games up until now.

I understand it too. Both Bayonnette and Syracuse have acted as the team's home bases, but with a trip to Saint-Christophe on the line for both nations, Squidroidia has to move on from here if they want to win the championship.

You are more than right. They have to get their move on tonight if they have a chance to even come close to winning it all.

So, about Woryand. Who do you fear from this starting lineup they have today?

Like everybody else, I am fearing that defense they have. Combined with Grēnwā in between the sticks, they have conceded 0 goals throughout this tournament heading into today. They are the brick wall in this tournament, like Sylestone's goalkeeper, so we have to get creative against them to have a chance at the final four.

They are the immovable object after all. We turn our attention to the Fan Center in Inkopolis Plaza as we discuss the FunStar Starting XI.

In between the sticks is once again Go Kyushichi, the Inkopolis FC #1 only has 1 clean sheet to his name, that was against Kayangan in the opening game of Group E. For our defense we have Yoichi Shigeko at left back, although Florianne Meeuwessen, she is getting better and better as this tournament trudges on, and the Inkling might replace him in the second half. Our centerback pairing is Umezaki Moronobu and Ogasawara Arinori, and on the right is Toujou Shihei.

In midfield, Jo Jun keeps his starting spot in the defensive section after scoring the 4th in the previous game against Port Ember, but there is a change in the center of the park. Out comes Toshikuni, in comes the experienced Kuroda Ryu, in his twilight years on the bench for Inkopolis FC, while Yoneda Toshikuni accompanies him, as he seeks to get out of Ichimoto when the transfer window opens again. And the front three, you know the drill, Morihei Nariaki is on the left, the youngster Makino Hideo is on the right, and in center stage is the Golden Boot chasing Itoh Hoshi, at the peak of his powers and ready to break through the wall.

Robbie, I don't know about you but defense is going to be the name of this game. We could go to extra time, and in fact I think this is going to penalty kicks. Woryand to win 5-3 on penalties.

I disagree. Woryand is going to come awfully close to penalties, but I know Itoh is going to step up and take Squidroidia to a trip against New Lusitania in extra time. 1-0 to the Inklings.

But of course, the real result is up in the air. When we come back, the teams march onto the field as we inch ever closer to kickoff, don't go anywhere!

Quarter-Finals Cold Intro

Nobody said it would be easy... "Aaahhh, the ball hits the post!" We may make it hard for ourselves... "Schottia got a goal! They're still in it!" But at the end of the day, we always find a way... "Smirnov with the header... GGGGGGOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!"

Once again, for the 3rd straight time, we participate in the Quarter-Finals of the IAC. Or as we like to call it, The Elite Eight.

Today, we look to make it to another Semi-Finals, another chance to make it among the very best of the Independent Associations. Although, there is one team blocking us to that goal: New Luisitania, the reigning Champions. Yes, the same team that beat us in Curumba nearly 4 years ago. A nation that we share similar cultural values and linguistics.

Today, we look to not only avenge that loss in the FInal in IAC 9, but to exercise the ghosts that haunt this team. We may not know what will happen, but all we can do is have our team work hard and play well and for us to pray and hope for their success.

It's gonna be a long 90 minutes and maybe even more, but as we always say, with them on the pitch and us in the crowd and all around the multiverse, nothing is impossible. Especially when up against the reigning Champion.

CITY OF FOOTBALL
What Lies Beneath

Continuing our series on the trillion-chèlinpeso construction of Ciudad de Pitxi in the Quezaldad district of our capital city, Tapalupé, we wonder about all those rumours coming out of the construction site - the last resting place of the Zenegalese ‘Cannibal Mobster’, General Chukwumeka? The Loco Nez Monster - a flea the size of an adult whiskey rat and twice as angry? The Arca Pacto, one of the nation’s most valuable lost treasures? A secret chamber offering passage to the Dreamed Realm? These are just some of the rumours about what was discovered when Quetzaldad was razed… but what is the truth? And was it as grim as one might expect?

WHAT LIES BENEATH

Heavy excavator & crane operator Miguel Costello - known by his workmates as Tío (Uncle) Mík - has seen it all in his time. Well into his 80s, he’s still considered the best in the business and is being paid a handsome fee to work on the City of Football site, pulling down old Quezaldad and putting up a spanking new coaching and development centre for the national teams as well as the much-anticipated national stadium. Tío Mík is also a passionate detectorist and amateur archeologist, and he sees his work using cranes and diggers as an extension of that passion - a continuous treasure hunt. If there is one thing Tío loves almost as much as treasure hunting with his industrial excavator, it’s talking about what he’s found in his day. The man is a storyteller supreme, of the confusionist tradition much loved in Tequilo. We caught up with him at a cantina on the edge of Quezaldad, and it didn’t take many bottles of wightbeer to get him talking about what he’s seen and found on his latest job.

“General Chukwumeka? The Cannibal Mobster?! What a load of old tripe!’ he says, laughing off one of the more gruesome rumours coming out of the rubble of Quezaldad; “If you ask me, he’s still running the Zenegalese mafia in Valanora. Them pointy-ears is easy pickings. No, he’s not buried under Quetzaldad - although we’ve dug up a fair few concrete coffins.”

What’s that now?

“Round here,” elaborates Tío, “it’s The Many Hands Gang who ran the old town. They didn’t eat their enemies like The General does, but they sure weren’t averse to a concrete burial, when it suited them.” Tío Mík goes on to explain, rather ghoulishly, that he’s found heads severed from their bodies and bodies estranged from their heads, hands without owners and corpses without hands, all stashed within concrete foundations for buildings he’s pulled down. “The foundations of buildings built without planning or permission in the heart of old Quezaldad are the cemeteries of the honoured friends and sworn enemies of The Many Hands. If they liked you, you got buried with full honours underneath a children’s hospital. If they didn’t like you, you were probably still alive when they poured the base of an illegal apartment block into a hole they had kicked you into.”

But what of buried gold and jewels, the rumours of pirate hoards and national treasures?

“Come on,” says Tío, a pragmatist at heart, “this was Quezaldad. Even the fillings in our teeth were pig nickel: treasure! Pah! The closest any of us ever came to treasure was fresh bread without weevils, and no-one was burying fresh food in ‘Quezo’. For sure there were pirates - poor ones - but if Isla Tesoro tells us anything, it’s that they can’t leave their hard-won gains alone for five minutes on a deserted island… what chance it would last the night buried under half a million chancers and rum cullies? No, there was no treasure here, let me tell you. Just a lot of bones and restless spirits.”

JUNIORS GRADUATE TO DEFLATE TJUN-IA
Tequilo 3-1 TJUN-ia HT: 1-1
Location: Seafoam Athletic Park, Saint Anne, Republic of the Seafoam Islands
Attendance: 61, 692 including many many new Omerican friends in sombrero merch plus the Ultra-Mariachis (8 real sombreros + the dog).

Scorers: Martín Colon (21', 65'), Ito (86') | Vladimir Podolov (41')
Booked: José Tavia, Enzo Morterero, Ecuador | Harold Gylfisson, Joe Green, Pedro Vasquez
Player of the Match: Martín Colon

Tequilo Player Ratings: Nícer Fiallo [7.8] Ostando Bertendona [6.1] (sub: Jatsu Cañaverri [6.6]) José Tavia [8.0] Tol Chicote [6.4] (sub: Ephraïm Kanyinda [8.0] Enzo Morterero [6.8] Noah Vergara [8.5] Xaime Medal (Capitan) [8.2] Cio Çenturion [7.9] (sub: Milan Lucio [7.1]) Martín Colon [8.7] Ito [7.7] Ecuador [7.9]

Celebrating the news from back home that following excellent work in the group stage the official status of the squad had been upgraded from development team to full seniors, Los Pitxileros had to dig deep to overcome The Jags and reach the quarter-final of the Independents, whilst equalling the national team record of five successive victories achieved under Mauricio Nores in the 72nd Baptism of Fire. Staking his claim for the team’s player of the tournament, winger Martín Colon once again put in an outstanding shift to bag his second brace and win the player of the match award. Colon gave the Agave-Blues a deserved lead midway through the first half, but TJUN-ia pushed back thereafter, putting pressure on the Tequilo defence. It was a welcome return for José Tavia in the back four who led the line superbly but with half-time approaching The Jags got their reward for determined play to level the game at the break. Luka Entenza certainly weaved some half time magic - whether that was throwing tea cups or gently cajoling his young squad - and they returned a stylish second half performance with two goals to take their place in the next round.

Coach Entenza will make minimal changes for the quarter-final game against Drawkland as Tequilo aim for a record sixth straight win and a second senior semi-final berth after the Baptism of Fire bronze medal finish. But he will have to do without attacking midfielder Cio Çenturion, who took a knock and must sit out the next game with the very capable Milan Lucio stepping back into the starting line-up. The second change is up front where Coach Entenza risks resting the in-form Ito and his superb partnership with Ecuador, dropping the striker to the bench and bringing in Manco Bran Somoza for his first international start, impressing so far from two substitute appearances. Former champions and IAC old guard - one of only five entrants to this tournament from the original field of IAC-1 back in the day - Drawkland arrived in Omerica as one of the favourites and have not disappointed, going unbeaten to win their group and dispatching of Trolleborg in the round of sixteen as they aim to match Schottia as the only team to win two IA championships. Few would bet against them but the Agave-Blues will hope for some backing from the locals - who seem to have taken to the attacking football and especially to the Ultra-Mariachi supporters band, with whom they appear to enjoy a perpetual round of pass-the-sombrero during matches. Tequilo will need that home backing as the twelfth man if they are to progress.

Starting Line-Up for TEQUILO vs. Drawkland:
Nícer Fiallo | Ostando Bertendona, José Tavia, Tol Chicote, Enzo Morterero | Noah Vergara | Xaime Medal (Capitan), Milan Lucio, Martín Colon | Manco Bran Somoza & Ecuador

Venue: Seafoam Athletic Park, Saint Anne, Republic of the Seafoam Islands

Grēnwā prevails!
Woryand record shock win over Indusse to progress to the quarterfinals

Woryand looked resolutely like the weaker side on the pitch today, but still came out as shock 1-0 winners to progress to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Indusse came out of the gates swinging, using their 4-3-3 formation to full effect; they had an astonishing 82% possession during the first half, during which Woryand only had possession beyond the halfway line once.

Woryand recovered somewhat in the second half, but were still dominated; Woryand's defensive manpower and spectacular goalkeeping were the only things stopping them from being blown out by several goals.

However, Woryand was still allowed a couple of counterattacks in the second half, with their high offensive line (consisting of solely Malyōr) getting possession of several clearances while in the opponent's half. These were frequently more dangerous than Indusse's omnipresent attack, given the propensity of them to turn into one-on-ones; the first two shots that occurred as a result of this either hit the post or were very narrowly saved by Ieghourn's trailing leg. However, as the old adage goes, the third time is the charm, and that was well-proven in this game; in the 81st minute, this happened:

"Indusse are still viciously circling Woryand, like an eagle searching for their prey's inevitable weakness. They lob one into the box, but Khaseem is just a step too slow and Grēnwā collects it. Grēnwā boots it up, and that's a mighty long kick, giving Malyōr another rare opportunity for his counterattack, and WILL YOU LOOK AT THAT SPEED! I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER SEEN MALYŌR RUN THAT QUICKLY, AS HE NOW HAS A 1-ON-1 WITH THE OPPOSING KEEPER! He's looking for an opening now, as the Indusse defenders begin to catch up, but HE'S FOUND AN OPENING, AND HE SCORES! 1-0 TO WORYAND, AS IT LOOKS LIKE WORYAND MAY BE ABLE TO GET YET ANOTHER SHOCK VICTORY AGAINST INDUSSE!"

Despite Indusse getting a few more shots into the area, all of them were inevitably blocked or saved, and Woryand ended the game as 1-0 winners. Their next match is against Squidroidia, a fellow team that has made it to the quarter-finals despite having never played in an international tournament before.

We welcome those of you just joining us from coverage of Poafmersia's victory over Kohnhead. Here between Reçueçn and the Squornshelan Confederacy, the final whistle of extra time has just gone. We are are still deadlocked at two goals apiece, and headed for the penalty shootout. We'll take a moment to catch you up as the teams have a moment to prepare and the managers sort out who they'll be sending to the spot. It was first blood to the underdogs as Jzeovak Vladcik tallied his third goal of the tournament early on. After catching the Reçuecian back line a bit flat footed on a through ball from Lomidan, he was in alone against Firaut and made no mistake. The Black-and-Reds enjoyed the lead for much of the first half, but the run of play turned slowly and inexorably in Reçueçn's favor as the favorites pushed for and equalizer. They found it not long before the half off the boot of Maynard Hebron. Kayserling caught Takala in possession and neatly dispossessed him and launched the counterattack with a pass to Hebron that caught Jaylene Kazarov upfield and out of position. Dalso did well to contain the play to the outside and deny a dangerous pass inside, but with no one back to close him down, Hebron was able to pick his corner, and Krieven could only watch the shot go by. It was a deflating turn of events for the Black-and-Reds to lose the lead so close to the half, but still not a bad half all things considered. They eased up far too much though, and the Reçuecians took advantage and took the lead in stoppage time of the first half. Perhaps sensing vulnerability, they pressed forward in numbers, launching probing attacks into the area, and eventually one connected. Per Tegeler showed masterful control, trapping a lobbed ball into the area and completing a neat turn to shoot on the volley, all while shielding Walda Harkhan. Bitterly disappointing for Black-and-Reds fans but you couldn't say Reçueçn didn't deserve their lead.

The second half was a distinctly cagey affair. The Confederates needed a goal, of course, but seemed wary of the counterattack, having already been burned by it once. To say Reçueçn looked content with their one-goal lead would be doing them a disservice, but they clearly intended to force the Black-and-Reds to make the first move at most points, taking care not to overextend themselves. In fact, Tremblay opted to bring the little-known Jayson Compton on for Paulin Bourguignon after the latter was caught far forward once too often for his manager's liking. Fortunately for the adventurous left back, center half cum sweeper Emanuele Cutrona did excellent work cleaning up after him, and did such an effective job containing the shifty Lavanya Naqvi that Groothuis opted to send Oliwer Starosta on in her place, marking the Soute-born right wing's first competitive cap for the Confederacy. In the end though, the chess match on the wing did not figure into the tying goal. A long ball forward from Hagaz was nodded down by Ajao, and fell perfectly for an onrushing Iuri Takala. His shot, struck dead center, dipped and weaved and evaded Firaut to slip in under the bar. While the last ten minutes saw the cautious play one would expect from teams in this position, both managers made declarations of intent with substitutions. Tremblay sent Ly Nasser on to replace Tegeler, who had not quite looked himself since a hard collision with Shrike Hagaz that saw the Confederate midfielder booked. Groothuis brought Hagaz off, sending on a much more attacking-minded player in Mithya Hashemi. Clearly, both teams intended to score in extra time. Of course, neither has, though not for lack of trying, and thus we find ourselves here. One potential wrinkle is the inability of Zoban Ajao to continue after landing awkwardly after an attempted header in the 96th. Lyzolda Petrov replaced him, and Groothuis also used her extra substitution to send on Retuer Storsjo at right back in place of the defensive-minded Janar Delu.

Now that you know how we got here, it appears the teams are ready to begin. It's Reçueçn to shoot first, with Adams, Lebo, Nasser, Hebron, and Saunders as their five champions. For the SRS it will be Petrov, Takala, Vladcik, Starosta, and Lomidan.

"Franky" Adams steps up, places the ball carefully, turns and coolly strides back to his starting point. Krieven waiting motionless on his line. Awaiting the signal from the referee, and here we go. Quick run up, and it's up over the bar! A terrible start to this shootout from Reçueçn, their attacking leader whose goals are so often the lifeblood of this team has sent his effort deep into the stands.

Now his opposite number, Petrov, has the chance to take the lead for the Remnant States. Steps back for a long run up, and that was confidently taken. She blasts and untouchable shot into the top corner. Firaut guessed right, but still couldn't get a hand to it, and the SRS lead 1-0.

Freeman Lebo now, with the pressure on to get things even again. He'll opt for a short run up, stutter steps, and calmly shoots it in after sending Krieven the wrong way. One all, and how important is that penalty for Reçueçn? The difference between an even score and putting themselves in a huge hole.

Takala is next, places the ball almost carelessly, none of the stamping and pinpoint placement you see from some shooters. Casual strides back to his position, quick run up and Firaut saves! He pumps a fist, but Takala is gesticulating wildly to the referee and it appears they're going to have another look at this one to see if Firaut came off his line early. Let's have a look at the replay ourselves . . . well you can certainly make the argument. It's so common for keepers to come off the line early, especially with so many players pausing in their run up these days, that it's really a matter of judgement on the official's part, so we'll just have to wait and see. Here he comes back onto the field and . . . yes! It's going to be a retake. Takala replicates his casual placement of the ball, borderline contemptuous, runs up, and this time it's in. Just off the fingertips of Firaut, and perhaps the little jump he didn't have that time made all the difference. Who can say for certain?

Nasser steps up now, a lot of pressure here on a player not exactly known for his stellar shooting accuracy. Very precise with his steps here, polar opposite from Takala. And he scores! Hammered it in off the underside of the bar. An inch or two higher and his team would be in real trouble but as things stand we're all tied up once again!

Now it's Vladcik. The right winger has turned into a clutch performer with Admiral in Savojarna. He'll need every bit of that skill here as the pressure increases the further we get into this shootout. He's set, there's the referee's signal, slow, staggered run up, and he shoots nearly from a standstill, Firaut nearly recovers to save it, but it slips by under his hands.

Hebron the goalscorer will shoot next for Reçueçn. He's not the most prolific scorer for the national team, but Firaut elects to go with the hot hand. Places the ball and steps back, then two steps sideways. He shoots . . . and it's saved! Krieven anticipates well. He punches the ball clear and he's absolutely exultant. Hebron can only take the long walk back to midfield and hope he hasn't let Reçueçn's last chance slip away.

Oliwer Starosta now, tons of pressure bearing down on this man's shoulders. His very first appearance in a competitive match, and here he is with a chance to win the game right here and now. Miss, and Saunders will have a chance to keep Reçueçn's hopes alive. Score, and it's all over. Thousands of fans here in attendance and millions across both nations are holding their breath. Here we go. Hard shot and it's in! He's done it. The SRS are on to the quarterfinals, and Oliwer Starosta is the hero of the day. Reçueçn have equaled their worst performance at the IAC, while the Black-and-Reds now have at least their second-best. It's a reversal of fortunes for these two sides, who have trended in opposite directions of late. But there's plenty of time for pontificating later. Now is a time for celebration, or mourning depending on whether you wear black and red, or purple and yellow. Starosta is being carried off the field by his teammates, after this thriller here in Nassau. Thank you for joining us, we go now back to the studio for our postmatch analysis.

THE SUB SEALS THE DEAL
New Lusitania 3-2 Sylvestone
@Stade Just-Cartier, Charlescourt

The group stage behind Everyone, half the teams remained. New Lusitania went back to the city of Charlescourt for their first foray in the knockouts in this edition of the Independent Associations Cup. The match would be held at the now familiar Stade Just-Cartier. The team was back to it's usual starting lineup - Patríce in goal with Vinagrete, Leiteiro and Cancela in defence. The midfield returned to Azinheira, Fernando, Horta, Gama and Veiga as Jota and Silveira went up front. The team were up against a strong Sylvestone side who had finished equal on points with Drawkland and played a friendly with in preparation for the tournament. The game started and the action along with it almost right away as Tumble Dryer just missed the goal. Those unbenkownst to this team may think New Lusitania were playing some mere appliances by name, but in reality they were playing a skilled eleven. The first goal came in and it was for the Selecção against the run of play. Fernando prodded the ball into Silveira which got it right under the brick wall that was Brick Wall. Later on, the Sylvestonians equalised, with the laurels going to Mixer who mixed up the play a bit using the wider areas through Stove and Drawer and got it in nicely after a few dribbles. Just before halftime, Stove got one in two to put the Lusitanians' opposition in front, turning up the heat on the match just before stoppages. As the two teams headed back in, os Heróis do Mar were one down and needed some strategies fast. The second half saw the 442 of Fransisco Grilo return as Ferradura came in for Azinheira, not because the Porto player was doing poorly but to change the situation of play a bit. With the second half under way, the equaliser was found around the hour mark via a cross by Gama. Finding it's way to Jota, all he had to do was head it in, and the ball was sent down into the net. With all square, New Lusitania decided to make his second change of the game bringing on Paciência for Silveira. This would prove to be a key moment in the match, especially when the winning goal came from this "Super Sub". A nice through-ball by Veiga bounced onto him and all he had to do was control it and put it in. The goal couldn't come at a more vital moment as the game was now in stoppages and in a few minutes it was all over. Avoiding extra time, New Lusitania were just about through to the quarter finals.
After a similar scoreline in Falconbarrow, HUElavia qualify for their quarterfinal with a win against Schottia in their road but now both them and the Selecção travel to Brétolles for their highly anticipated match which features last year's two finalists. A new crown at stake, old friendly but fierce rivals of lusophone descent reunited once more - the stakes are high and the passions higher. Both national fans and neutrals will definitely be interested in this match in the making. Grilo joked "my predecessor won us a trophy against this strong side somehow and now they've put me against them for comparison..". On a more serious tone he praised the HUElavians by saying that "they're one of the strongest sides here and one that can easily beat us if we're not careful" noting "preparation leading to the game should be extremely important before our match at the Saint-André". The Squidrodians seem more confident in our performance than ourselves it seems with their broadcast featuring an interview mentioning that they'd hope to put their team against us in the Semifinal, but as HUElavians, Lusitanians and the bookies point out it's a game that can go either way depending on how they set foot on the pitch.
On the mention of Squidrodia, they seem to have been the only comfortable winner of the round following their 4-1 smash to Port Ember at Bayonnete. They now have to worry about Woryand who beat Indusse with a simple goal in Sassari with their paths converging at the Olympique de Syracuse. Tequilo arguably won well as well, besting TJUN-ia by three goals to one in Westhaven, now playing Drawkland who expected exactly what their location - the Rue de la Victoire - suggested, and that they got following a 2-0 win against an unlucky Trolleborg who did seem confident during the match and have plenty of positives to take for their work in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with the victors meeting in the Seafoam Islands. The final quarter-final is composed of Poafmersia and the SRS who both struggled slightly to get out of this round and should provide an excellent pairing against two of the best sides in show. Poafmersia beat the sensational team of Kohnhead 2-3 in "Lisbon of Omerica", Great Arden with their losing side showing plenty of might and magic in store for the upcoming qualifiers as well. For the SRS, they were in Nassau to battle Reçueçn. Both teams clashed in an epic and not even extra time could set their 2-2 draw apart leaving the lottery of penalties, where the Squornshelans triumphed 2-4.
Eight teams remain, one can be crowned champion. So far one thing has been certain, "There's always a good match in Omerica"... and for that may be, but as the closing stages seem to approach who has the pedals, the distance, the audacity to get to the trophy? To make it so far, any team is a worthy candidate but only one can make it...

Poafmersia survives late scare to enter Quarters
Report by Donkash Yarso
Great Arden, Omerica - Poafmersia took 1 step forward in their bid to improve on their performance at the last Independent Associations Championship, as they survived a late rally by Kohnhead to win 3-2.
With star player Joel Haodao ruled out of the match after suffering a knock in the match against Squidrodia, Hansel Tang, who has been putting in really nice performances in Ko-oren for her club, got back onto the starting lineup alongside vice-captain Shakira Handris and Mancodas City captain Pete Carisa. Tang took 16 minutes to prove her abilities yet again, scoring a really nice goal from 30 yards with such strength that it stung the hands of keeper Bertha Sanders.
The match continued on as an one-sided affair. Kohnhead may have been Group F champions, but for the first half, our Red Panjias dominated the match as the players made shots after shots. The Kohnhead defence and keeper was certainly kept busy for the first half, with Sanders making many fine saves to ensure that Kohnhead only remained 2 down by the half-time. However, when the players returned from the half-time whistle, the match certainly shifted, and it was Kohnhead who seriously threatened throughout the second half. Pete Carisa scored a goal just 4 minutes after the restart by heading in a corner, but Kohnhead put in more intensity and pressed our players. A small mistake from Nasri Sanchez was exposed by the Kohnhead keeper Aaron Korkson, and Korkson scored to punish Poafmersia for that mistake. 9 minutes from time, it was a 1-2 between Erin Maltos and Korkson which Poamfersia could not stop, and that allowed Korkson to score the 2nd goal to seriously threaten Poafmersia. Ftiks Wariq came on in the dying minutes, and put forth a brave performance to help Poafmersia keep the win and allow the Red Panjias to proceed to the Quarterfinals.
With defence being an issue once again, Adnan Suliaha said that this is a problem which has always been recurring with many Poafmersian defences. "Maybe we just have to tear down our current constructs and relook at this all over again. Against Kohnhead we may not have been punished, but against Squornshelan Remnant States, that is something we have to be careful about. We have played the Squornshelan Confederacy just once prior to this, in the 76th Cup of Harmony where both sides drew with 3 goals apiece. As I have previously mentioned, this side of the bracket is tough, and our upcoming opponents really showed strength and determination as they won on penalties against Reçueçn, another tough side from our regional neighbours The West Pacific. If anything, I believe that the next match would be a close on between both sides, and hopefully our players can put in more effort."
Poafmersia would likely field the same lineup against the Confederacy, with Woden Sweet coming off for Ftiks Wariq being the only change in the starting lineup.

HUELAVIA GAINS REDEMPTION EN ROUTE TO SEMI-FINALS!

HUElavia 3-2 New Lusitania
(Cristiano 7', Rossi 59', Navarro 74' | Silveira 15', 29')
Stade Saint-André, Brétolles, Westavon

HUElavia came into the Quarter-Finals for the 3rd consecutive time, facing the opportunity to make the "Final Four" of the IAC once again. The previous two times saw Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos win their matches against Kelssek 3-0 in Rcecuen for IAC 8 and 2-1 in HUElavia themselves for IAC 9. This time around, they had their most difficult opponent to date in this round: New Lusitania and the Algarves. The Quarter-Finals was opening up with a rematch of the IAC 9 Final, played almost 4 years ago in Curumba. Back then, a late goal from Silveira clinched New Lusitania their 1st title winning 4-3. 4 years later, and the two sides met once again, now with the new rankings for teams in the IAC, it was the #1 and #2 teams, a Final in and of itself. The match was played in a sold out Stade Saint-André (50,000), in Brétolles, Westavon. The stadium was essentially 50/50 with HUElavians taking up one end zone and New Lusitanians taking up the other. Both teams fielded their best XI for the match, and the teams came out to a massive cheer and applause from the crowd. The anthems were sung, the coin flip was made and the ball rolled to kick off the Quarter-Finals.

The match was played in a strategic manner, as both teams played a very cautious but assertive level of attack, looking to open and get past each others defense. The opening goal would come in the 7th minute, as Gallego would dispossess Fernando of the ball and start a counterattack towards the Lusitanian defense. He would pass it to Hamada, where she would give a lob kick to pass it to Cristiano, who ran past Cancelo to head the ball past Patríce and into the goal to make it 1-0. The crowd erupted once again, cheering and jumping so passionately to make the stadium rumble, while the superstar winger ran to the corner to do his power stance celebration and hug with his teammates. The match resumed and New Lusitania continued to attack looking to break past the HUElavian defense. Eventually, this would work, as in the 15th minute, Fernandez-Roux would pass the ball to Salgado, where the pass was a little too soft, resulting in Silveira getting the ball, running past the defender to go one-on-one with Lobato, sending a low shot to get past the HUElavian goalie and into the goal to tie it at 1-1. Silveira was mobbed by his teammates to celebrate the quick goal, while the Lusitanian crowd celebrated with plenty of joy. Both continued to attack, but Lobato and Patríce made great saves to prevent goals, to much enjoyment from the crowd. In the 29th minute, Amaru gave a hard tackle to Jota that the referee blew her whistle for a free kick, while giving the full back a yellow card. Fernando would whip the ball into the box and in the far post, up came Silveira to tower over the HUElavian defense and head the ball down, where Lobato tried to stop the header, but it deflected off his side to go into the goal to make it 1-2. Silveira celebrated with his teammates while the Lusitanian crowd was celebrating once more, and both the HUElavian team and supporters were left stunned. Not much would happen thereafter and the 1st half ended 1-2.

The 2nd half would come, and HUElavia began to play much more attacking football, looking to get runs past the Lusitanian defense, wanting to score the equalizer. Chances would come, but would be either stopped by Patríce, or the defense would stop the attacks, or it would be blown off for offside. Despite this, Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos kept at it and eventually got their grand opportunity. In the 59th minute, Conti (in for Ramirez) would get the ball and give a low pass to Rossi who sprinted in between Leitero and Cancelo to give a low shot that rolled past Patríce, who was motionless, and into the goal to tie it at 2-2. The HUElavian crowd jumped up and celebrated with passion while Rossi celebrated at the corner flag while being mobbed by his teammates and the bench for the spectacular effort. After that, the crowd gave chants of his name, including some chanting "Ankara Rossi!" to celebrate. The momentum switched and now the HUElavians were on the offense, having full support from a singing crowd. Eventually this culminated in the 74th minute, when Conti gave a cross into the box, where Navarro jumped up and over Nogueira to have the ball curve over Patríce, who once again stood motionless, into the far corner, and hit the top post to go into the goal to make it 3-2. The HUElavian crowd once again went ballistic, cheering and jumping with passion to make the stadium rumble while Navarro was mobbed by his teammates and the bench for the goal. Finally, he was able to get up and celebrate with his girlfriend and teammate Hamada with a strong hug and kiss. New Lusitania went on the attack, while HUElavia had to essentially "park the bus," a tactic rarely used by the team. Eventually, a foul in the 88th minuteby Smirnov over Trincão in the box gave way for a Penalty Kick, with the Rus-HUElavian defender getting a yellow card. Silveira stepped up to try to tie the game and get a hat-trick, and took the kick, only for Lobato to save the shot and grab the ball in a crouching dive. The crowd roared as one and Lobato was hugged for a moment, while sending the ball out wide. After a few minutes of additional time, the referee blew her whistle and ended the match, with HUElavia advancing to the Semi-Finals, 3-2.

With the victory, HUElavia make their 3rd consecutive and overall Semi-Finals, making among the "Final Four" of the IAC. Their opponents are surprise package Squidroidia, who were the Group E winners, where they come off an impressive 3-1 victory over Woryand. Notably, many of the players of Squidroidia share similar names, ethnicity and culture to Hamada, which this should be a special game for her. The match will be held at Stade de l’Indépendance (51,000), in Saint-Christophe, East Calaverde. The winner will be the "Home Team" for the IAX Final, which will be held at Stade de la République (73,000), in Republic of the City of Romainbourg. Who ever wins this match will face off against the winner of Tequilo vs Poafmersia, who finished 1st in Group B and 2nd in Group E respectively. The team will look to practice and take the game very seriously, while fans will be praying and hoping for the team to win once again. It may be a very stressful match, but the fans have good faith in the team, and the team has good faith in their own abilities. After all, they are looking to overcome the set-back of losing two consecutive Finals and to finally put a good name to themselves. Regardless of what happens, HUElavia is proud of this team for making it far into a tournament once again and will support them through good and bad.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!
