I'm speaking pretty rhetorically, anyways. Although, I know a lot of Greek-Americans, that diaspora is staying put at the very least, as is most diaspora in America.

Either way, I'm amazed this thread is still going. I don't think it's controversial to stake out that middle ground of saying "Greece can control who they let in, but they shouldn't set people adrift," but I suppose it continues to ruffle feathers.

This. I am not a supporter of open borders but you still should rescue them, process them, and then deport them or give them refugee status as applicable.

What do we have to offer? A magnificent timeless architecture, weather-altering BS machines, a pristine environment, a strong military, and a death toll of 10 million from our concentration camps and bloody wars.

Since we were talking about certain postions I liked about the GD I’ll consider it on topic.

The objective truth is that National Socialiam is part of then Third Posistion, it rejects both capitalism and Marxism.

There really isn’t much point in debating if you think I’m a Nazi, kind of defeats the whole purpose of a rational discussion.

There is more to the political spectrum than the left right axis you learnt about in grade nine.

Political Theory 101 it is, then.
So, the political spectrum can be divided among three major Axis: Hierarchy, Authority, and Progressivism. Capitalism is a right-wing hierarchy because it endorses a merit based, internally fluid yet externally solid hierarchy by which people rise and fall upon their supposed Merits. Marxism is a left wing school of thought because it rejects hierarchy as something natural or desirable. This is what places them upon opposite sides of the scale, though not inherently diametric ones. Third Positionism and Nazism both endorse a very strong hierarchy in which the State is the ultimate expression of such, all thing subject to it. "Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State", as Mussolini would say. However, the trick is the marketing, by which they proclaim to have transcended traditional politics. They have not. As in everything else with fascism, this too rings hollow.
Progressive, cosmopolitan, gay, a firm believer in science and extremely against neo-liberalism. African-American with Somalian background.

If Turkey keeps sending people, it will take years to review each case. We've tried to speed up asylum process by reducing red tape, time and number of appeals but it will still take like a year or so. Preventing them entering in the first case limits the number of people.

Also, it's not like those who get asylum will get integrated in Greece. The official policy instituted by the government is that those granted asylum are kicked out of the camps and must find a way to earn a living on their own without government assistance.

Look you can do certain things. You can build walls and fences. You can deport people who come in illegally.
If the boat is seaworthy you can force it to turn around. But leaving people to drown is not right and violates several international conventions. If people are in distress at sea, and you can rescue them, you should do so.

Sure you are going to have to spend money building a large infrastructure network to house and process the people.

We are actually about to install a floating fence to prevent such incidents, and this will hopefully prevent boats from coming in.

The thing is though if they are hanging from the fence at sea you still have to rescue them, process them and then deport them if they cannot prove they are a legitimate refugee.

You should not leave people in distress at sea if you can reasonably rescue them, because that violates international conventions and makes sea travel worse for everyone.

Our current government is committed to undertaking the structural reforms the lenders want (liberalization of market, privatizations, digitization of public administration, reform of social security, tax cuts), and in return we get the cash. It isn't aid given for free.

A floating fence, around all of Greece? I doubt such a thing would work, even if you managed to actually build it.
