Basics

Is your nation considered "socially conservative"?
Which of these behaviours are acceptable in public?
([o] for acceptable, [x] for unacceptable)
[-] Breastfeeding - We're robots. Breastfeeding is physically impossible.
[x] Burping - Backfiring is a sign of mechanical problems. That is taboo.
[o] Displays of affection
[o] Dressing provocatively
[o] Eating
[x] Intoxication
[o] Passing gas - Combustion engines constantly pass exhaust. It's just how they work.
[x] Ranting about personal issues
[o] Smoking
[o] Swearing
[o] Taking photos of other people
[-] Wearing beach attire - We do not have "attire" for different things. There is only our paint job.
[-] Wearing sport attire
[-] Wearing pyjamas
[-] Yawning without covering mouth - Robots don't yawn

Interactions

How do people say "hello" and "goodbye"? "Hi" and "see ya," among other informal methods
What do people usually do when greeting each other? Bow or nod our heads
Is it expected to greet the owner when entering and leaving a store? Only if he greets us first
Is it expected to greet the driver when boarding and leaving a bus? Decepticons don't ride on buses. There literally aren't any.
Are titles (Mr/Mrs/Miss) used? Military and professional titles are, if the person has rank worth mentioning. Otherwise, no.
Does the national language have familiar and polite forms of "you"? No

Table manners

Are good table manners considered important in your nation? No
How are utensils supposed to be used? If multiple people are refueling together at home, the big Energon Cube may sit in the middle of the table. Then, its ladle is used to dole out glasses' worth. It is then left in the Cube so the next person can easily reach it. Other than that, there are no utensils since Energon is a liquid.
When is it acceptable to begin eating? As soon as you have the Energon in front of you.
(At restaurants) Who pays for the meal? Everyone pays for their own.
How much is the tip/service charge? 0, it's part of the bill.
Which of these behaviours are acceptable during meals?
([o] for acceptable, [x] for unacceptable)
[o] Asking for seconds
[o] Checking an electronic device
[-] Chewing with mouth open - Energon isn't chewed
[x] Discussing politics or religion
[o] Food left over on plate - Energon tanks, like gas tanks, don't stretch. Either you can fit your portion in or you can't.
[o] Eating before everyone is served
[o] Elbows on table
[o] Hands below table
[x] Leaving the table to use the toilet - It'd be weird and rude to go change your oil during a meal...
[o] Not tipping - There is no tipping
[x] Over-tipping
[-] Refusing to try a dish - The meal is always Energon. There is no "try."
[o] Separating the bill
[o] Slurping or smacking sounds - It'd be really weird, though...
[x,o] Speaking on mobile phone - Depends
[o] Speaking with mouth full - Voice chips work fine with the mouth closed, so why not?!
[x] Spilling food or drinks on other people
[o] Taking photos of the food

Business

What is the dress code for most businesses? Just a well-waxed paint job. Magnetic or vinyl lettering may be added with the company name, if it pays enough or the worker is desperate enough
Is punctuality considered important in your nation? No. We are far more concerned about the quality of someone's work than whether or not they got there "on the dot." Time-crazy people will just have to learn to relax. Otherwise, someone may adjust their priorities with a blaster.
What language is business conducted in? Binary
How should bosses and coworkers be addressed? Bosses by title (with or without name), co-workers by name
Is hierarchy a strong part of your nation's business culture? Yes. Can't have peasants arguing about what they're supposed to do!

Giving gifts

Are gifts expected when visiting someone's home? No
Are gifts expected between business associates? No
Are students expected to bring gifts to their teachers? No (and it'd be seen as a bribe attempt if they did)
When are gifts supposed to be opened? Right away, just in case it's actually a booby trap and you need to blast the "giver" in exchange.
What are some gifts to avoid? The main thing to remember is that we don't just give gifts. Doing so is seen as an attempt to butter someone up in preparation for some connive, or as some similar kind of trick. Instead, we "offer a very steep discount," such as 90%, on the item that - in another culture - would be a gift. It's fairly complicated but it works.

Rules of the road

Which of these behaviours are acceptable on roads?

These car/bike-related things don't really apply to us since we only use our roads for walking. If we're not on foot, we're flying, so we're not on a road then.
No war RPs; no open RPs.

What side of the road does your nation drive on?

A centrilised state, we center on liable lime line - lasted lots of long lags.

How old is(/are) your leader(s)?

The Leader lives longer than even myself, mastering mustered menace of time, the trinkets of immortality merely imaginable. Still stands Stegative, sixty-two years strong and steady wins the race.

What tech-level is your nation?

Technology today trees to branches in complicated conduits of progress, enlightenment, and tightment. We were valleying the silicon to silly gadgets and silly cons. We have shown so well.

MIgrenia's attempt at answering the most recent survey

Postby Migrenia » Mon Jul 20, 2020 4:25 pm

Basics

Is your nation considered "socially conservative"? No, Migrenia has historically been more socially liberal than socially conservative. The MIgrenian Patriotic party is more socially conservative than the MIgrenian Freedom party, but they rarely win popular elections, and the MFP is currently the party which holds national office
([o] for acceptable, [x] for unacceptable)
[o] Breastfeeding
[o] Burping
[o] Displays of affection
[o] Dressing provocatively
[o] Eating
[o] Intoxication
[o] Passing gas
[o] Ranting about personal issues
[x] Smoking
[o] Swearing
[o, but not without consent] Taking photos of other people
[o] Wearing beach attire
[o] Wearing sport attire
[o] Wearing pyjamas
[o] Yawning without covering mouth

Interactions

How do people say "hello" and "goodbye"? Migrenia has a variety of different cultures and is largely comprised of immigrants and annexed peoples, so greetings depend on the person or group, and can range from a simple 'hello', to the popular Dakian custom of nonchalantly saying 'cocks'.
Is it expected to greet the owner when entering and leaving a store? no
Is it expected to greet the driver when boarding and leaving a bus? no
Are titles (Mr/Mrs/Miss) used? not really, but some prefer certain pronouns and prefixes
Does the national language have familiar and polite forms of "you"? Migrenia is ranked as one of the most culturally permissive nations in the universe as of today. Some people will even use expletives and deliberately derogatory language in a playful manner with people they just met, and some foreigners perceive such as 'rude'.

Table manners

Are good table manners considered important in your nation? Nope, each person is regarded as responsible for making their personal boundaries clear to their friends and family, and no social mores are imposed.
How are utensils supposed to be used? - However a person sees fit
When is it acceptable to begin eating? When a person is hungry
(At restaurants) Who pays for the meal? Migrenian relationships are egalitarian. People generally either split the bill, or delegate it to the wealthiest of the group, since the wealthy are looked up to as being in a special place and have a special obligation to help those who are less fortunate if possible.
How much is the tip/service charge? No tips are required. It is illegal to underpay restaurant employees.
Which of these behaviours are acceptable during meals?
([o] for acceptable, [x] for unacceptable)
[o] Asking for seconds
[o] Checking an electronic device
[o, although it's common for some to have personal revulsions to this] Chewing with mouth open
[o] Discussing politics or religion
[x, technically legal, but waste is definitely looked down upon] Food left over on plate
[o] Eating before everyone is served
[o] Elbows on table
[o] Hands below table
[o] Leaving the table to use the toilet
[o] Not tipping
[o] Over-tipping
[o] Refusing to try a dish
[o] Separating the bill
[o, many personally dislike this as well though] Slurping or smacking sounds
[o] Speaking on mobile phone
[o] Speaking with mouth full
[o, people don't get offended, as long as there is an apology] Spilling food or drinks on other people
[o] Taking photos of the food

Business

What is the dress code for most businesses? Depends on the type of business. Some business have them, but most MIgrenians despise dress codes and see them as a petty imposition of personal preferences
Is punctuality considered important in your nation? depends on the person, most are flexible, as long as it doesn't affect productivity
What language is business conducted in? Depends. Most are in either English or French, which are the two most commonly used languages in MIgrenia
How should bosses and coworkers be addressed? Depends on the personal preference of the employer, and employees generally expect the same respect.
Is hierarchy a strong part of your nation's business culture? No. Migrenian culture believes that superiority downplays the voice of certain people, so higher rank or more power is seen as a responsibility and an honor rather than as a privilege. MIgrenians are judged proportionally to what they are capable of.

Giving gifts

Are gifts expected when visiting someone's home? Depends, but usually yes from the wealthy, not so much from the poor.
Are gifts expected between business associates? Again depends, but generally personal expressions of affection through gifts are not seen as the responsibility of anyone on the job, and any employer demanding gifts is treated as a tyrant.
Are students expected to bring gifts to their teachers? No. Teachers are awarded voluntarily by the students based on their merit. The good ones may receive gifts, but teachers who were authoritarian or bad at their jobs often get cruelly pranked by the students to express their dismay.
When are gifts supposed to be opened? Typically when the gift reaches their hand, or when they feel like it
What are some gifts to avoid? Generally depends on personal preference, which is often hinted at especially by younger people who desire gifts through flirtacious reminders.

Rules of the road

Which of these behaviours are acceptable on roads?
([o] for acceptable, [x] for unacceptable)
[x] Cyclist disobeying red light
[o, also, Most Migrenians use self driving cars] Driving too fast
[x] Driving too slow
[o] Flashing the headlights
[o] Hitchhiking
[o] Honking the horn
[o] Jaywalking
[x] Not signalling a turn
[o] Playing loud music
[o] Speaking on mobile phone
[x] Taking up more than one lane
[x] Taking up more than one parking space
[o] Tailgating

New Jeromia is a large nation which takes up most of the Jeromian Peninsula. This nation follows my IRL views mostly, and is modeled after the real life countries of the US, Japan, South Korea, and probably France too.

XIX. Questions of Warfare.

Does the country have an armed force? What types? What size?:
It has an Army, Air Cavalry, Navy and Space Cavalry.

Who declares war?: The Prince-Regent or Sultan(a).
Who has the power to declare conditions of peace?:
The Sultan, Sultana or Prince-Regent

How are treaties negotiated?: They are negotiated by the head of government from either side.
What happens to prisoners taken in battle?: They are treated well and eventually released (either at the end of the war or they're exchanged for Sharifistani prisoners)
What weapons are favoured by the various armed forces?: The Air Cavalry prefer to use fighter jets, the Army tend to use rifles, the Space Cavalry like ICBMs and the Navy use rifles against pirates.
What form of warfare does this society use?: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Sharifistani_military_doctrine
How do battles in the airs or waters or underworlds differ from surface warfare?: Air battles have less of a focus on numbers.
Who are the Elite warriors? What distinguishes them?: The Royal Ghazi Regiment, Royal Infantry regiments, the Space Cavalry Colonial Regiment and the Naval Ghazi Corps. They are distinguished because of their training and tactics as well as the higher expectations of bravery put on them.
How does someone get command of troops?: A commission from the Sultan, Sultana or Prince-Regent.
Normally such commissions are granted after obtaining a Masters Degree in Military Science.

Where do the loyalties of military units lie?: to the Sultanate and it's ruler.
Are there professional soldiers? Do they make up the bulk of the military?:
They exist but represent a minority of the military.

What is campaign or camp life like?: Good,
soldiers are served high quality rations, have access to entertainment, can worship according to their religion and can usually bring their wives and/or mistresses with them.

What ethical or moral codes do warriors adhere to?: the Code of Warrior Chivalry,
a set of rules based on Islam but which Jews, Christians and Sikhs (for example) are also able to follow.

How are battle injuries treated?: by field medics and then Military doctors and nurses.
How long do wars typically last?: a week or so.
Has this society ever attacked another? What was the nature of that war? What would make this society go to war?:
This society goes to a war for a number of reasons.
Aggressive wars tend to be motivated by a desire for territory.
Defensive wars happen after Sharifistani citizens are attacked.

Has there ever been a civil war or a revolution?: There is a civil war at the moment.
What do soldiers do when there's no war?: A range of tasks from providing humanitarian aid to poor countries to enforcing COVID-19 lockdown.
Are there any current tensions / wars / embargoes etc with any other nations?: yes tensions with the Munkcestrian Republic which are expected to cause war and tensions with Danistarab.
Who are the country’s enemies? Whos winning the war?:
Munkchester and Danistarab and yes, we are winning.

What defences are available to cities?: Soldiers,
Home Guard organisations might be formed in the future.

Energy consumption
What is the annual energy consumption of your nation? 5,604 kWh per capita
How much energy does your nation have? 410 TWh/yr
What form of energy generation is the most prevalent (Coal/Oil/Solar/Wind/etc...)? Nuclear, then hydro, then torrefied biomass in coal furnaces
Cost of energy (e.g. NS$ 0.01 / Watt): $0.27/Wh
Is your nation committed to using/converting to clean energy? Yes, when possible. Carbon fuels are used, but it's in a carbon cycle and what gets burned is either returned to the trees or re-synthesized into more fuel.
Evaluate why for your choice for above question: It's the most sustainable option while also not having to shift tens of trillions of dollars in combustion engines over to systems that aren't proven to work on a grand scale, i.e. an airplane. And many places in the United States refuse to nuclearize, preferring the more dangerous to live near coal-fired power plant, so they'll have to switch to biomass fuel eventually because at some point we're going to run out of coal, for instance if we let the Centralia fire keep burning.
Any other noteworthy remarks: Electricity made slavery obsolete. This was true in real life and it's true here too. If you have a high amount of electric generation per person, your average prosperity as a whole goes straight up[1] and resentment towards others simply go away as there's enough to go around. It's the Star Trek future.

Indigenous populations
Is the majority population indigenous to your nation? How does one go about answering this? Just because one group colonized it before another by a few thousand years, does that mean the first group gets dibs? If you want to get specific, no, nobody's indigenous to anywhere but Botswana. I'm going to interpret this in the context of "white men aren't native to the Americas", which is a perfectly valid statement, if the semantic equivalent to an empty calorie.

If no:
Is there an indigenous group from the land your people inhabit? Hundreds.

If so, have they been repressed by the majority? I guess, yeah. Nowadays it's not like you get the Indian Wars, but the history is there. Hence why there's a territory/state equivalent historically known as the Indian Territory, but whose inhabitants are thinking up a better name for it.

Have they been removed from their land? Yes, see above. Wasn't us that did it, and for what it's worth the Indian Territory actually sided with the Confederacy in the Civil War, but that incarnation of it doesn't reflect the modern one.

Is there active resistance to the majority's rule over the indigenous population? Not nowadays. The most you hear is from the IT, and even then a lot of them are doing it for the attention. Of course there is active resistance, there's always one person for every ideology under the yellow Sun, but so far most people just accept it as an unfortunate mistake of history to be learned from and move on with their lives.

Is there conflict between indigenous groups and the majority? Not a ton, no. At most you get tiny street brawls but not full scale uprisings, not when it's easier to just integrate into society and live a normal life.

Overall, how much does your people's foreign heritage affect them, politics, and the nation in general? It does not matter one hoot. They have never been to their """homelands""", their homelands' people have probably never been to them. Funny thing about a population near totally isolated from their countries of origin for about 375 years, you tend to develop your own culture and identity.

Language
Name of language: English
Language family: Germanic
Is this language natural or invented? Natural
Text direction (left-to-right or right-to-left)? Left to right

Writing and pronunciation

Which alphabet or writing system does this language use (or primary, if multiple)? You're looking at it.
How many different letters or characters are there? 26
Can the sound of a word be predicted from its spelling? Usually, if you know the phonological rules. Not fake ones like "I before E", real ones like "the sound P before a consonant generally is either voiceless or totally silent".
Can the spelling of a word be predicted from its sound? Same as above, but for morphological rules. It's a little harder but usually it works out just fine.
Does this language have word stress? Yes, to disambiguate, but not to make entirely new meanings.
Does stress follow a fixed pattern (first/last/xth syllable, etc), or is it different for each word? Different for each word.
Does this language have tones? Yes, but to denote the type of sentence, rather than as a part of the vocabulary.
How many different tones are there? Rising for questions and demands, flat for statements.
Does this language have sounds or sound combinations that are difficult for non-native (or even native) speakers? Yes, the /þ/ sound is the most commonly cited one, but in addition to that, p-before-consonant is also tricky.

Grammar

Is the word order fixed or variable? Variable, moreso than most Germanic languages.
Do words have a gender? Only sometimes, and as far as I know only limited to nouns.
Which of the following genders are used?
[x] Masculine
[x] Feminine
[x] Neutral
Do verbs have different forms ("conjugations") depending on who does the action (for example: I am, you are, he is)?
Which of the following conjugations are used?
[x] First-person singular (I)
[x] Second-person singular (you)
[x] Third-person singular (he/she/it)
[x] First-person plural (we)
[x] Second-person plural (you/y'all)
[x] Third-person plural (they)
Do nouns have different forms ("cases") depending on how they're used in a sentence? Infrequently, and none of them come to mind at the moment. Modern English has largely abandoned the inflectional case system of Proto-Indo-European in favor of analytic constructions. The personal pronouns of Modern English retain morphological case more strongly than any other word class (a remnant of the more extensive case system of Old English). For other pronouns, and all nouns, adjectives, and articles, grammatical function is indicated only by word order, by prepositions, and by the "Saxon genitive" (-'s).
Which of the following cases are used?
[] Nominative
[] Genitive
[] Dative
[] Accusative
[] Instrumental
[] Locative
[] Vocative
Do words have a plural form? Yes, irregular but usually deduceable; generally it's -s or -es.
Do plurals follow a fixed pattern, or are they different for each word? Often fixed, occasionally different.
Does this language have a T/V distinction (different pronouns for polite vs. familiar address)? Used to, doesn't in most dialects since like the 17th century. Some dialects in the modern day preserve the TV distinction, but those are dying out as more people speak in general dialects (e.g. Received Pronunciation, Standard American South).
What are the polite and familiar pronouns? When should each be used?

Vocabulary

Does this language share a lot of words with other languages? Yes, either cognates, redoubling, or loaning because of how many times England was conquered by other people.
Does this language have a lot of foreign loanwords? Yes, see above.
Can speakers of other languages understand this language with ease? Often. It's especially easy for speakers of Danish and Norwegian.
Can speakers of this language understand other languages with ease? English speakers often have an understanding of Spanish or French, and Norwegian is quite similar so with a little bit of prompting an English speaker could understand the language.

Availability of resources

Are learning materials widely available for this language? Very widely, as the 21st century lingua franca.
Are teachers widely available for this language? Yes.
Are books and media widely available for this language? Oh, definitely. Some of the best selling books in history.
Is this language considered important for business? Yes.
Is this language considered important for science and research? Yes, in the 21st century.
Is this language considered important for tourism? Fairly.
Does the government offer programs to teach this language? Ours? No. Others? Probably.

WMD policy
Does your country have a WMD program ? Yes, but only as a legacy of the United States'.
If so, can you explain some of its history: The United States failed to denuclearize before the oil crisis. Now the Confederate States has a couple warheads under its territory.

Clocks
What clock does YN use by default?
A. 12 hour clock
B. 24 hour clock
C. Both
D. Other (Please specify)

How does your nation tell time? Meaning, how do they denote a certain hour and a certain minute? Like 9:37 pm for example, if your nation even tells time in terms of seconds, minutes and hours. Generally, using the same time system the United States had. Some former military still uses military time (e.g. zero-seven-hundred, fourteen-thirty). It's up to the individual, but the government uses H:MM am/pm.

Conlang Survey

Your Conlang's name: Ayrahay/Erahe

Short history/description of Conlang: Ayrahay (ay/e = speech, ra = method, hay/he = writing) is the main official language in New Jeromia. It was originally created when the region of Jeromia broke away from the Moshi Monarchy, and wanted their own language. It has since evolved slightly, but remains mostly the same. The language is syllabary with each syllable given a specific meaning. There is also a separate featural writing system for writing words in an alphabetic way, mostly used for writing foreign names.

New Jeromia is the most free nation in the world!

New Jeromia is a large nation which takes up most of the Jeromian Peninsula. This nation follows my IRL views mostly, and is modeled after the real life countries of the US, Japan, South Korea, and probably France too.

This is a micro nation I made: Komejo Zikorzo
