Nebraska has a unicameral legislature with 49 members. They are elected by a nonpartisan blanket primary. The top two vote getters advance to the general. They are also nonpartisan, although the two parties endorse candidates. The Republicans have 30 seats, the Democrats 18, and one independent. Keep in mind that many coalitions are issue based.

Biography: Born to Caroline Hayes (later Simone, and later Chairman of the Democratic Caucus and Speaker of the House) and George Hayes, Damian already started off life well-connected, although there was some early tension in his family, with his mother and father later getting divorced, resenting his mother due to this, and evolving his hard personality that he does today. As a child, he had always been somewhat withdrawn, perhaps due to his mother and father. He sank into a mild depression, mostly sticking to himself in school, although still doing his work and such, meaning his withdrawal had mostly been internal rather than external.

However, his father, having had an idea to fix his withdrawal, decided to send him over to the navy, which he accepted, hoping to find a cure for his soul-sickness. He spent his early days mostly doing training and exercises, eventually being deployed to Bosnia in the closing days of the war. He took to his deployment with an energy he hadn't felt since the divorce of his parents, enjoying his time in the navy as an aviator. However, while he did enjoy this time, he sadly was shot down over the town of Balatun, on the border of Serbia and Bosnia. His service on the field lasted no more than 3 months, as the plane crash had crippled his arm, leaving it limp for the rest of his life after a partial recovery.

After leaving the military with a medical discharge, he decided to take an education in law and political science, and whilst most of his costs were taken by the military, his mother - with a lot of grumbling from himself, as he didn't want to feel reliant but really needed it, ultimately - decided to cover the costs not covered by the military, something he was mildly grateful for but still rather angry inside at her for what he saw as her wrongdoing...

He first started off as an associate at John Edwards, working as a lobbyist, mostly spending his early years doing lobbying for small businesses, being handed off minor clients to test him when he fully got his own office. He first worked for centrist lobby groups, with his mother (unintentionally on his part) being used to justify hiring him, as his mother's connections worked handily to his favour even as he disregarded them.

His first main group was with the American Assembly, founded in 1950 by Dwight Eisenhower. It was a relatively minor group, and he mostly worked with state and local officials to ensure they listened to their ideas, and worked to ensure that Congressmen had bipartisan solutions. After 2005, however, he began to work with the Partnership for a Secure America, requested as such due to his mother's foreign policy experience. He pushed through their agenda, forming long-term bonds and relationships with several Congressmen, Senators, Governors and more.

He worked to build bipartisan relationships, and was decently skilled at doing so, ensuring that he would have allies on both sides of the political spectrum, although granted more towards the Democratic side but still nonetheless bipartisan. He worked to push a centrist agenda, sticking to his guns even as the asymmetrical polarisation of the GOP continued, trying to stick with those on the GOP who would still listen to him. As an independent, he voted for Clifford 1996, not-Gore 2000, Burke 2004, Baharia 2008, MItter 2012 and Clifford 2016. He still has PfaSA as a client, but works for the BPC as well.

Other Info: Has a wife, Mary, 41, and two children: George, 15 and Byron, 12. George is the elder of the two, planning to be an engineer, as he liked working with the physical and the tangible, and Byron is a computer kid, obsessed with the latest technologies and who plans to work in Silicon Valley. Mary was an accountant who he met in person through a friend, as she was the sister of said friend. She now stays at home, however.
