Well the Ethiopians consider themselves as Beta Israel (an ancient tribe of Israel) and that their kingship descended from King Solomon, so it perfectly fits the narrative and folklore that God intended it to be kept there.
If they truly did have the Ark it probably wouldn't be moved anywhere. Besides, no-one (except Moses) could see the Ark with their own eyes, because it is the literal representative of God.

One can look at the exterior of the Ark, but not the interior, unless one is a priest.
