I like Quentin Tarantino's films. I would definitely consider Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs to qualify as art, although I suppose that you could make the argument that Tarantino's films are pretty derivative given that he likes to draw inspiration from older films and many of his works are pastiches of late 20th century genre films and/or books (Jackie Brown is a tribute to blaxploitation films, Kill Bill to martial arts movies and Japanese cinema, etc.). Not that I'm claiming to be a great cinematic critic or anything.

Fucking hell.

QUENTIN TARANTINO is NOT art.

Quentin Tarantino films are exploitation. They take real life memetics that everyone can understand and blow them up to giant proportions as a way to mock people who don't think that culture can be expressed only in memetics. They're fundamentally anti-civilisation, cinema produced with neither panache nor raw power, just an endless torrent of artistic explosion.

When I ascend to the General-Secretaryship all Tarantino films will be destroyed. His face will be printed in the textbooks of cinema as an example of future generations to not copy.

But art it is not. The book, Silence of the Lambs, is art.

I’m curious, what d’you you consider to be art? ‘Cause while I don’t think it’s controversial to say that Michael Bay is not an artistic genius, or that even the more artistic directors like Spielberg can do mass produced commercialized mush, I don’t know where the cutoff is.

Some films I think that qualify as art, just off the top of my head (obviously not an unexhausting list)

Apocalypse Now (difficult because it's not an original idea, so this is borderline.)

Boss baby is the most important work of our millennium. All of the technology invented in the past 1000 years has been leading up to Boss Baby. Any other opinions are not valid.

On the filibuster you need 60 votes to overturn the filibuster (except in the many exceptions) BUT you only need 51 votes to change the senate rules which create the filibuster in the first place!

The filibuster is just a tradition. Any and all Senate rules can be changed with a simple majority.

Kind of like the British Constitution. Which can be changed with a simple majority of Parliament.

You only need 51 people to change the rule saying you need 60 people. It is silly.

Of course, cinema is art and like a beautiful painting or literature, is a valid way to cultivate aesthetic sensibilities. There would be far less cinema then there are today though because commercialism has degraded the medium through mass production like it has every other form of artistic production.

On a related note, I really don't understand "environmentalists" who hate nuclear power.

I think it can ultimately be chocked up to a kind of quasi-superstitious fear of science, much like the anti-vaccination movement and many of the objections raised to genetic modification of crops. It's frustrating how many opportunities to reduce the impact of carbon emissions on the climate, not to mention increase countries' abilities to fulfil their energy requirements without importing fossil fuels from morally dubious producers, may have been squandered due to the kneejerk dislike of anything nuclear amongst the so-called "green left."

Sure, but besides being riddled with exceptions, just because it is not in the platform does not mean they will not or cannot make an exception to get their favored legislation through.
