I wouldn't want to work at Walmart in normal circumstances, I certainly don't want to work at Walmart during a time when Walmart employees are on the frontlines of America's incompetence and stubborn refusal to follow stay-at-home orders.

Not everybody has stockpiled large amounts of canned and dried goods, you know. There are apparently whole communities whose sole source of food stuffs and other consumer goods is said megastore, sad as that is.

My contract for teaching has ended and they are saying 2 choices:

1. Sign another 1 year, same salary
2. Extend the current terms to June, then “we’ll talk”

With the implication that after the crisis is over, things are “uncertain” (with the massive lost of revenues from the protests and COVID) and the dice will be rolled

What would you do?

Im off thankfully, and will be getting furloughed till the 24th of May after tomorrow.

If that's what it takes to have a fine specimen of the human race such as you to participate in TET, I certainly don't mind. I was pretty much furloughed (now there's a word I didn't know until the pandemic) as well the past two weeks, but yesterday and today I actually went to my workplace, which happens to be a medical archive. My main task is based around material coming in from a laboratory, it just happened to be so that they actually had a few boxes of the stuff that needed proper processing. Given how the procedure normally resulting in the steady stream of said material has ground to a halt because of the current crisis. I'll be busy entertaining myself at home again once I'm done with the current stock.

We have not even had our first date yet, calm down you.

I now have a piece of paper saying my work is essential. I don't think I’m that essential but hey, going to work is fine.

Apparently we're essential as well seeing as we're still open, but I didn't get no fancy paper slip to prove it. In general we get much thanks and professions of importance but so far precious little to show for it. I was considering looking for a new job after not getting the Co-ordinator position, but seeing as we're likely heading for the worst unemployment and bankruptcy wave in decades I guess I'll have to settle for being employed at all.
