I'm so darn glad He let me try it again / 'Cause my last time on earth, I lived a whole world of sin
I'm so glad that I know more than I knew then / Gonna keep on trying till I reach the highest ground

ALL-HINODEJIN YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE
With the departures from last season, many fans knew that things would change a little bit on the top tier. They weren't wrong in their predictions as former relegation battler Grand Royal High School managed to find itself as league champions at the end of the season. In truth, the battle for the title didn't finish before the end of the tournament, with Bolt Travelling actually holding the lead for the last stretch of the run before dropping it at the very last match to the high school side. While the team from Burakuriri did start things out great at the last matchday of the tournament with a goal by talented forward Yoshimitsu Ukyō, goals by Romi Schultze and Dee Dee Will-Noss guaranteed a somewhat pointless win for Senso-Shukujo Ladies HS. While supporters of Bolt Travelling hoped that things ended with a title win, they found their hopes instantly dashed once Sunny Summers opened the shop for Grand Royal against Elite Mashu HS with a screamer from outside of the box. Joachim Siegel and Kyoko Hakkarainen would make the score even more lopsided before Ho Jung-Bin squeezed an honour goal for the team from Mashu as the game winded down.

Led by Coaches' Best Player of the Year Carson Vaugrenard, Miishima Polytechnical High School followed hot on the trail of the leaders before bowing out in the latter third of the season, a tale not too different from Bronze Boot of the Season Ilppo Mäkinen's Zeppelin Foundation and the reborn Project Olimpo Jutsii. Project Olimpo themselves are probably the most noteworthy team of the pack that didn't manage to keep on the fight for the title: the most international team of the league managed to find decent enough chemistry, battling for the top with great performances by Bruno Silva, Aurora Conti, John Graycook, Maria Sakaguchi, Artur Drouin and above all of those, Filia Draaken. The remainder of the top ten include Mashu Elite HS (who are still looking for another generation like the Elite Five), Kazama All-Schools FC (who found themselves a bit better following the acquisition of Hazel Hanson-Conavacio at the fifth matchday), Berinii Steelworks (who briefly held the top of the league at the start of the season somehow), Senso-Shukujo Ladies HS and Hanada City HS (both recovering from losing major talent with some interesting prospects to fill their roles).

Relegation, on the other hand, saw some early victims. Despite their win against fellow relegation battlers So-Nya Nekojin Academy, featuring a hat trick by Atin Vilizajis, Zora found themselves too far from the opposition at Matchday 35 when Chaolan Zaibatsu, the first team out of the relegation zone clawed a single goal win against Elite Mashu HS. A nail biter win against Miishima Polytechnical High School for Chaolan meant that Maku Trading Guild FC would be returning to the second tier after another brief stint at the top while the Saria Greens sealed their fate with a loss to Bolt Travelling at Matchday 37. In the end, Gerudo Trading Company FC (Getruco) finished a season of underperformance with a loss to Project Olimpo Jutsii, guaranteeing the Unicorns' permanence at the top tier for another season, against all odds.

ALL-HINODEJIN YOUTH FOOTBALL DIVISION 1
Considered an underdog this season, the Ainushima Surfing Club managed to build up an amazing roster of names that weren't really under consideration for major teams: Ryo Yamamoto as an offensive midfielder, newcomer Yū Shiina firing at all cylinders, guaranteeing herself the Golden Boot of Division 1 while the "Empress of the Beach" Natsuko Kato kept hold at the defence. A team with very little issues on itself, they managed to get themselves a solid lead right from the start of the season and never looked back. Behind them, the safe hands of Norihito Komori and his Marine Shipping and Travel got second place on the table while two rethreads from previous seasons return in Southern Ironworks Girls (now with Ikakeshi Kokkunshi and Hashiko Nekketsu as their two new pearls) and Koshu Dragon Guard HS (once with Gum Nam-Gong, now with Seul Chan-Lee as his replacement for a defensive boss with a little bit of a captainship streak) while fellow rethreads Royal Theater Preparatory, Aloha Heiwashima and Kohei Cherry Villa HS remain for another season of Division 1 football. Frustration takes hold once again at Speedwagon Foundation, fueled by how their rivals in Zeppelin have been on the top tier for quite a while by now.

Following a rightful butchering, Tsushike Little Foxes' form dropped strongly and the efforts of Mario Genevois were not enough to keep the team in the second tier of Hinodejin youth football while Lady Shinagayama Delicacies & Deliveries and Sanijihasu Basco HS have worst stories to tell about their seasons (Lady Shinagayama almost lost a match by walk-out via forgetting their kits while Sanijihasu Basco HS had the Shina Algarrondo-Yanaga in a Pool incident) but really, nothing tops former All-Hinodejin champions Misutikku-Iseki Diamond Miners doomed to third-tier football after losing out to Beibei on mere goal differential. With things pretty sour between the "Three Devils", it's very likely that the club will have to release the three instead of mustering more losses over them.

ALL-HINODEJIN YOUTH FOOTBALL DIVISION 2
One of those seasons in which a couple of teams found themselves in a level above the competition while everyone else had to play catch although, in reality, a group of teams overperformed while another group really disappointed. Kairi All-Schools FC, a team composed mostly of students of the Anakaris species ended up making short work of the opposition thanks to their visible height advantage but also due to some really good football, mostly via the team's maestro, Marina Shura. Igajima Sengoku HS, the team hot on their trail, relied mostly on the speed of quick trio Rukito Mekushima, Tekki Hikushiku and Iroha Mojikuchi, contributing to most of their goal tally. The Verina Young Boys, that team mostly of boys with Malin Frontinella as the sole exception, added bonafide center-back Eikki Hakkarainen, which helped their chances upfront via simply punting the ball above. Finishing up the top four, Hatsune Records AFC were Division 3 champions last season but did get Golden Boot winner Shizumi Yamada to bag in most of their goals. Funnily enough, three of those four teams were in the Top Four of Division 3 last season, Raimon Central HS being the other team there last season that now had slammed against the bar instead of going through to another promotion.

On the other end of the spectrum, also ran efforts by Mosudoro Little Flames, Suburban Kawasuki, Karatsushime Trilanguage HS and Kunyanto City Market just weren't enough to keep them in Division 2, even if neither team was any much worse on paper (and in some of the matches they played on) than teams like Maburu Town YFC and Hikata Media Group.

ALL-HINODEJIN YOUTH FOOTBALL DIVISION 3
For the first time in a while, the champions of Division 3 weren't entirely new teams to the Division, Usagi Sailor Star HS having previously finished in the same tier last season at a mere ninth place. For the team from Ume-Aburana, the changemakers had to be Hidenobu Matsudaira at the right-wing, Teemu Laukkonen on the left side and Serena Yamamoto on the back; all of the three players turning into really good pieces for such a level of competition. Sanijina Sant-Joan HS, now looking forward to facing their rivals from Sanijihasu Basco HS on Division 2, got themselves to the second tier via the non-stop play of Mikki Inui as their own little maestro while Ooarai Tank Girls HS and Airin Rovers found themselves claiming promotion via a single, key player each team had: Ooarai had Angelina Villaverde not missing a beat while Airin Rovers relied on local talent Nami McNeil-Kirisaki to open things up for the club.

Relegation saw traditional teams Pan Islanders, Nottoshima Scouts, Hawai Surfing Club and Choji Lumber Mill Company sign themselves up for Division 4 football next season.

ALL-HINODEJIN YOUTH FOOTBALL DIVISION 4
With a rather respectable pedigree for what is mostly a factory of Cyborg players with specialties in skin tissue growth and skeleton fixes (mainly of the metallic variety), the September's Hand Iron Guild had yet to really pull out anything special in football. And then, years after joining Division 4, Mariya Fukui misses a free-kick at the last game of the season in a game against the Kikushima Ladies HS that ended up being flat out pointless: the Iron Guild is now a Division 3 team for at least the next season. Following them, Saturn Sakunerishima Genesis actually joined Division 4 in the same season, paralleling things a little bit. Raimon Frontier HS and Maniwa General IAHS join them at Division 3 next season as well.

On the other hand, Kotobuki Industry Partners YFC, Tanukibo Seven Tails HS, Kairi-Kameria Slider FC and Sijitani Flight Kids now prepare for the stressful process of re-election.

THE HINODEJIN YOUTH CUP
A record 1300 teams ranging from school teams to sponsored teams to trading guild sides to city selection squads took to the fields of the Empire this season for another edition of the Hinodejin Youth Cup. Notable stories include the shenanigans of Division 2 side Waruishiko Kezama HS, semi-finalists of this season's tournament before bowing out to Project Olimpo Jutsii in a highly contested match while a shorter but no less impressive run by the kids from Nekketsu Arc HS saw the non-league outfit win an upset game against top tier side Saria Greens FC in the Round of 32 before an extra-time goal saw Rakun Police Preparatory HS through them.

Once again, the Cup's final was disputed abroad: Senso-Shukujo Ladies HS and Project Olimpo Jutsii travelled to Kirkillia, Emirates of Futurnia; visiting the capital of the country (Kirkinburg) and playing at the national stadium of the nation (as well as the home of local powerhouse Cooking Football Club) for the trophy. A goal by Schottian forward Remi Schultze gave Senso-Shukujo Ladies HS their first-ever piece of silverware in football.

RE-ELECTION
The moment a surprising amount of fans wait for, the Re-Election period was established to properly consider whether or not the bottom four teams of Division 4 are worthy features to the Hinodejin pyramid and, therefore, should retain the right of playing a full All-Hinodejin Football League schedule. Last season, all four teams up for re-election found themselves kicked out of the pyramid in favour of the fresh new options that were present on the voting pool.

With a record twenty-eight teams up for voting, the electoral body (now also featuring voters from the media and even a popular vote that would have some weight on the decision, the poll leader ended up being Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. The team had already participated in voting pools for the last three seasons, often failing by a short margin to join the Hinodejin pyramid but following a very respectable run in the Hinodejin Youth Cup, the team for peculiar children (read humanoid children, refugees, orphans, all sorts) can finally leave the shadows of their domain towards the Hinodejin pyramid with pride. Another team that found itself joining the pyramid after a bit of wrangling at the voting pool is the Crimson Project. Formed by fashion mogul Saiki Crimson, the club was apparently inspired by the Tsushike Little Foxes (a team in the pyramid already) with full plans of becoming their rivals before eventually surpassing them.

With a very tight margin, the Sijitani Flight Kids were able to make a convincing enough argument to stay in the pyramid. Kotobuki Industry Partners YFC announced that their project will indeed cease to be following relegation (the cause being a lack of funds) and players will be presented to other clubs nearby with the hopes of salvaging any possible careers that would take a hit with the destruction of the project while Tanukibo Seven Tails HS' administration commented that they were displeased with the lack of trust from other teams of the league but understood their opinions and will instead focus on improving the school's infrastructure for a possible return down the line.

Finally, in the biggest twist of the whole bunch, Kairi-Kameria Slider FC's ownership announced that the club would change ownership to a trust fund of Kamerian technology shops and small manufacturers, rebranding itself Kameria Youth United. The promise of investment was probably made with the full intention of guaranteeing that their team would remain inside the pyramid but the announcement apparently wasn't enough to fully convince the voters and, in a rather surprising move, voters chose to instead switch Kameria Youth United for the Iwashigahama Hinode Women's Pro-Wrestling Academy. The Academy itself, founded by Tornado Matsuda, a former Joshi of decent fame in the Somei-Yoshino circuit had actually established a football team for her academy for fitness reasons but was glad to know that her students would actually have the chance of playing football as a second option for a career. "My girls are looking forward to busting everyone up. I hope you got your insurance checked in," declared Matsuda on a conference.

As per tradition, The Foremost World-Renowned International School of Lucha received no votes, again.

HINODEJIN INTERCOLLEGIATE TOP LEAGUE
You're not seeing things, Hylia is indeed the Hinodejin Intercollegiate Top League champion after years of strengthening their roster with former high school starlets, although the real talents, as far as fans are concerned, have to have been the new wingers upfront: Katara Nanamikawa and Nitara Heshimakage, both becoming key in making an offence that, at the moment wasn't as good as it used to (only really featuring former Saria Greens' striker Dussink Aros as noteworthy name), causing the team to punch above their height and write themselves into the history of Hinodejin football. Following the champions to (almost) the very end of the season, Kanshiro University's last hurrah with players like Seong Mi-Na, Kim Dong-Hwang and Kim Jae-Hoon didn't provide them with the silverware they expected but it was still a really solid effort when you consider that the rookie class for this year brought Luther Fox, Chung Il-Seong, Jun Kazama, Choi Kyung-Soo, Kim Seung-Yeon and Moon Sung-Soo; all of those joining specifically to get the chance to play a single season with the former number one prospect of the Empire (Mi-Na). Also on the top, the Dragons from the Empire's capital, Tentai University managed to give Marcel Forde a nice departing gift as he prepares to join up the Transfer Window soon: a Golden Glove for his services at this very season. Additionally, good seasons for the Royal Academy (built on the back of recent recruits Jiang Mei and Chikako Mori), the University of the Pacific (with Lukas Stonemoore catching on fire on his final season for the outfit and the healthy additions of Jun'ya Shiiya, Katsumasa Warabi and Yasunobu Hattanda), the Zora Institute (who just welcomed Peta Kivipepi from the High School level) and Kuroba University (home of Golden Boot Mizue Kurisawa).

On the other end of the spectrum, fans were shocked to see both KOS-MOS and National Robotic going down following some rather short stints with a lot of promise but not much delivering. Some have pondered that the results for both teams were probably based after how much their opposition improved their roster on the side while both teams didn't really seem to do much in terms of actively improving, something that probably happened as a result of the rather limited pool of players both could recruit. Also going down are one-hit wonders National Battle Institute and former regulars Uchina State University.

HINODEJIN INTERCOLLEGIATE CHALLENGE LEAGUE
The All-Blacks are returning to the top tier on the heels of an amazing season by Saeko Kasaki, easily their best prospect in ages, and the very final season for Osarian goalkeeper Shinji Teruzuki but the other three qualifiers are probably way more head-scratchers.

Mide Girls' Academy has been very much regarded in sports such as Equitation and Lacrosse but was considered a bit of a dark horse in the pyramid. Then they were able to convince Mido-Hinode targets Katarina Dahlberg and Joanna Hellqvist that participating for the Vespiqueens wouldn't be a bad idea. Funnily enough, it worked and the two really made a mark, cue Rena Kashiwazaki making a great season and there you go, a promotion to a team nobody had heard before. The Chatots from the Royal Music Academy is also a massive surprise, a team that started out due to insistence from the Imperial Hinodejin Football Association that the Royal Music Academy squad be divided into two, thus joining the Hinodejin Intercollegiate Challenge League with this very name while a Royal Music Preparatory toils the All-Hinodejin ranks as a high school side. This season, however, they got a bit of help from their younger squad, which meant having the chance of using Hildegard von Krone, not just for now but for the next two seasons, pairing her up with a bonafide monster in Aimée Mälmstein and two solid pieces in Eleonore Dirks and Corbinian Luther. Anouki University, the one institution in all of the Empire destined to the Anouki race, almost-human like people with long hair that somehow end up connected to a pair of quills that cover their arms and... surprisingly they've been competent this past couple of years, culminating in an unprecedented promotion to the top tier with players like Hanabi Anamiramoo and Saru Harusumoo making their names with style.

Going down, we see Shiga University, a team that briefly played at the top tier before failing to do much and going down one-and-done. Also relegated are the Metropolitan Institute (infamous for being confused with Miishima Polytechnical once in a Bow of Artemis fixture), Tanuki College and Minamimachi University.

HINODEJIN INTERCOLLEGIATE ADVANCE LEAGUE
Placed in the far distant western part of the Empire in the middle of a somewhat exotic sea, Sophitia University wasn't known by much, with many of its' students admitting to joining the institution out of a desire to be as far away as possible from their relatives. In a bit of a twist, however, the recluse team was able to take the title of Advance League champions at the very final matchday. There are some interesting players in this team, including Ryuunosuke Shinzaki (who will be looking for an actual professional club next season), Natsuki Kamiyoshi and Tsugumi Hikasa. Following them are Kuroba State, Tentai Tech and Okagane. The league was bottomed out by Minamihara.

INDEPENDENTS
- The Insular Intercollegiate League saw its' second season, featuring eighteen members who played against each other twice, home and away. Once again, the powerhouse of the league Miishima Polytechnical managed to run away with the title, although things were a bit harder than last time around: they managed to get eight losses, including a shocking 4-2 loss to Yuki College. Kinokomura Tech, Shenlong College, Chibi College and the aforementioned Yuki College finished out the top five. Kazuya Mishima's twenty-two goals were enough to give him the Golden Ball.
- The League of Athena too saw its' second season with eleven teams (as Beart College chose not to take part in this) with surprisingly even competition from all parts. In the end, Eigyojo lost St. Phillip for the title in the second-to-last matchday.
- The Canvusian University League has been delayed for another season as none of its' ten universities believe themselves to be ready for actual play.

THE BOW OF ARTEMIS
Some crazy runs happened in the Bow of Artemis: Hatsune College found themselves in the semi-finals of the tournament while last season's champions Miishima Poly failed to surpass one-time Top League members Chokoboshima Flight Academy (who went on to get eliminated in the following round). A rather promising Somei-Yoshino State might have failed to perform the way they hoped to in the league but were able to go far in the Cup, almost squaring off against their cross-state rivals in a duel that was only prevented by Somei-Yoshino themselves failing to surpass Sakurahana.

In the end, relegated KOS-MOS was unable to find some silver lining on the horizon when Daniel McNally scored off a cross from Jeong-Ryun Mitsuharashi near the box.

KiHi-LEAGUE
Last season, Pascal Mashu's offence showed some incredible signs, netting only about 99 goals, easily the best offence of the league, landing them in third place at the top tier of Hinodejin domestic football. With that in mind, Pascal, one of the two traditional clubs of the city of Mashu, brought in overlooked defender Cristina Konovalova from Kanshiro University, partnering her up with Nephelcheres Amennakhtitutsi as their back two. The partnering worked perfectly and with Attaline Adedirdan netting goals in a surprisingly good rate while Kamalani Kanani surprised fans with a good assisting performance. The biggest good shock of the season, however, was with Mashu Hellowenia. Having floated near the bottom of the table for the past couple of seasons, thanks to the rather inept Kenzo Iwazaki, the Hellowenia watched him leave for a job at Syn Ryona, something unprecedented in Hinodejin football (and Futurnian football in general). It was here that their fortunes changed, deciding to instead employ former chess player Hideki Kojima as their new manager. The youngest manager in all of the five main tiers of Hinodejin football (he's twenty-six), he decided to loan some of the more experienced pieces to lower league sides while using most of the team's rather impressive youth partnered with several names from the university scene. Tarou Sega, a former underrated midfielder from Somei-Yoshino State really impressed considering his acquisition on a free last window, while Hannah Truiden was improvised as a left-winger, serving as the team's best scorer under a tactic system that employed fast-paced attacks. Shinji Toryumon, usually criticized for his flashy style of goalkeeping turned out to be pretty good in replacing the faulty defending of Ryu Yoshida. While critical of his own results with the team, Kojima noted that they'll be looking towards improving the roster further with the next window, meaning that it's very likely he'll be selling off some of the older players of the roster at some point to sign up a proper marquee signing.

Also going to the inaugural ICFC tournaments are Kanshiro Lopunnies and North Kazama United. A high position in the standings is no surprise to the side from the Hwangju Plains, of course, as Kanshiro Lopunnies rebounded pretty well from the Sang Kyung-Ja retirement not too long ago. In the back, Seinosuke Yoshihama remains a highly respected goalkeeper even if his status in the national team took a sharp decline while the duo of Madoka Matsuda and Iskar Serket have since gained the aid of Baek Doo-San for competition in the two center-back roles that the team employs. On the other hand, North Kazama United's rise has been recorded quite extensively thanks to the aid of their recent sponsors OEDO. Improvising Luís Silva as a center-forward, the new signing spearheaded the team's rise into prominence while left midfielder Ethan Anile outshined another new signing, Gregor Sheehan into the left midfielder role. Miare CosmoStars has to contend with Esportivan football following their finish in fifth. Many fans believe that the reason the CosmoStars failed to get into the ICFC was due to manager Mamoru Sayatomi insistence in Miare Central HS product Momotaro Shinigami instead of trusting the rather competent hands and feet of Zhao Mui, a player that was picked up from the debris of Shaolin Saitama not too long ago. Additionally, the Tsutsuji Trident of Mikage, Momozono and Yonomori weren't allowed to play in their traditional forward three roles which might have messed up things in the front: their best scorer was laborious right-wing Boldizsar Zsinkó with a mere ten goals.

Meanwhile, the usual class of teams to go and play the Traveller's Trophy this season (after a brief hiatus in respect to what happened with UICA) feature Eterna Miyako (where Ibuki Minakawa together with new signing Amenemapet Month formed a strong back-bone), Q-Bee Honeyame (the former champions that missed a step earlier in the season before benching Susaeta Exteita for Hylian prospect Sephi Nell Kirishima, who proceeded to eat the ball, almost literally), the Hokuto Senateurs (still in their rebuilding phase as a tandem of Ryota Kawaguchi and Lollo Bakomi made sure that their traditional goalie Kim Sung-Min ended the season with a transfer request due to barely playing) and Hwoarang Seidoshi (who managed to edge out the competition for the final Traveller's Trophy slot via Chenda Chey pulling all stops and Gavs Soave having a really good season. This meant that makeshift squad Interdimensional Misei missed on international football for their first time ever as a cohesive unit, in spite of a great season from Branwyn Maddox.

Going the other way, however, were some shockers. Once upon a time Hinodejin champions, Hinode Supernova bottomed the league out with some questionable football. In spite of efforts from Toni Bliss, Allen Slayback and Moïse Blanc, the club wasn't quite capable to do anything to stay on the top tier. Morange Mii returns to the second tier, consolidating their yo-yo status at the Hinodejin pyramid as a result. Aurablu Aritsu, the team that invested heavily in snagging many an overlooked university player ended up unfit to punch above their weight and once again goes down. Finally, Hsien-Ko Yiantsame ended up drawing the short stick in the very final matchday, ensuring players like Granz-Maëdel de Charlot, Bjorn Tennesson and Nuan Mee-Song have the opportunity to play second-tier football for the first time in their careers.

With the level of the second tier improving severely following the signing of several former university players, the level of attention given to the Hinodejin second-tier rose exponentially, including a new contract to broadcast games on satellite television for new markets. Weirdly enough, however, league champions Herarte Kyuminato didn't exactly make any major changes from the roster that was, not too long ago, squaring off against the big guns of Hinodejin football. Leading the experienced squad was Ryo Yoshida, a former World Champion on the U-21 level, who managed to make 22 assists and score 15 goals. Another team that also didn't make any major changes on the window (besides retrieving some players from loans) and yet managed to find itself on the top of the table was Tanukai Anurinanikai. The team from the hills of the Andorian Mountain saw Nanase Shirai burn nets with a total of 19 goals while the combined efforts of Huxitochihuatl Kagawa and Rangdol Bongpatsang added up to 31 assists and 8 goals, giving more fuel to their expansive offence while Lyndon Joling performed amazingly for a rookie defender. Joining them are the Eileen Mee-Mees (with Joseph Franks proving to be a major signing with his skill to find the net being a major advantage) and perennial pyramid climbers Maltesa Rokishima.

The club from the small island of Rokishima had been a regular in the lower levels but had failed to find themselves at the top tier in spite of their many efforts, only to promote on the back of the most unlikely of stars: Juergen Evans, formerly of Sabrefell Moths, Chenoworth Harriers and Cranequin Wanderers hadn't lit the world on fire in previous teams and was now mostly playing towards the eventual retirement in the peaceful beaches of the "Island of Knights" but soon found himself clicking with another name that came with very little fanfare and had yet to do enough to justify his signing in Taffner. A center midfielder from Santa Maria Madalena, Taffner was bought on the cheap from Traveller's Trophy regulars Izabel a while ago but only managed to play a full season for the club now. The Madalenan used his wits and, together with the team's manager, came up with a strategy that ended up being lethal. Maltesa employed a style of play that focused on crosses, making it easy for Evans to climb the goal ranks. Going down are Herculli Pura, Miishima JACK's, Reiku Wasserantis and Taokaka Daito.

Things were joyous at Taushiga as the local team, the Taushiga Tauros, regained their senses on the pyramid and returned to the second tier. This season also saw the return of Solavista Nagisa, a team who struggled out of the top tier before finally getting a glimpse of light after years of darkness with a runners-up slot. Another team with a decent enough past is Penagrine Mayane, based out of the province of Burakuriri and essentially having a 100-year old history that did feature some time in the top tier of the nation. Finishing off, Iwakiri UltraSonic had a good season and now find themselves at the second tier.

History, however, didn't prevent Piyobirdo Sora and Irori Milkies from going down to the fourth tier, in spite of their hard efforts. Toppolino Tsugayuki and Seraphimon Tatsu were pushed off as well.

Taushiga Tauros (1st title)
KiHi-LEAGUE 4
The oldest club of Maniwa returns to the second tier with a glorious title win after years of reasonable investment from the team's president and their die-hard fanbase. The old days of the KiHi-League are also represented by Radikokoro Ichitsuki, the team who fancy themselves after the traditional Audioslavian outfit and Atene Taleble, famous for their light blue and white kits and once being a regular feature at the top tier of the Empire. Hanger Daian, another team with bucket loads of experience but less noteworthy stays on the top tier also returns to the Third Division after this season.

In the end, the bottom four too had plenty of history, although only Usagi Semprehare had a stint at the top tier. Relegated, Utiwa Sasuke is a recent sight in the Hinodejin Empire's major leagues while both Adon Himegono and Shenlong Roejin were just... there.

KiHi-LEAGUE 5
When the House of the Dandelion saw their Kingdom fall, many historians believed that this was it for the family as a whole. The Hinodejin Queen at the time, however, insisted that they were allowed to live a normal life under the new administrator of their kingdom, now a mere province of the Empire. Their revenge was destined to take place in the football field as Lionessa Kanteburi was started with the full plan of winning the Hinodejin Empire's national league title in front of the Asakawa family. They're still distant from the heights of the KiHi-League's top tier but at the moment, they've been able to at least climb to the fourth tier. With them, it's Genshu Charizards, Sophitia Tsuchizaki and Fairi Navi.

Going down are the Kazuya Devil Boys, the Kawasobu Rivermen, the Kawarake Wizardmons and the Ilumine Hikari.

REGIONAL QUALIFIERS
The first ever edition of the Regional Qualifiers saw representatives of the eight leagues representing the lower tiers of the Hinodejin Empire, ranging from the Main Island, the western portions of the Empire, the territories of Misei and Shintochi and even space itself. With the regional qualifiers over, eight teams stepped into the fold with the goal of beating their first opponents to qualify for the Hinodejin Endurance League. As luck would have it, the newer parts of the Empire ended up getting themselves represented into the national pyramid with wins from Casablanca Mariki, Canvas City Royals, Union Hanni-Jashuane and the eventual national champions of the regional playoffs, Shintochi's very own Inverdy Shinshabona.

OFF-SEASON AND OTHER LEAGUES
In a weird twist for most leagues, the Hinodejin Basketball League decided to open up a channel for complaints and suggestions from the large fanbase of the league. Almost unanimously, the Hinodejin asked for a league without the playoffs and also without the divisional system, requesting for a proper promotion and relegation system that was done in the league's earlier days. The clubs themselves were caught by surprise but due to the decision itself being taken much earlier, they were all mostly capable of adapting themselves to the changes.

The Kibominami Falcons and the Reishima Drakkar, expected to be major opposers of the change, weirdly enough announced support for the change. One could wonder why the two teams, easily the most distant teams from the rest of the Empire, would defend a system that meant their clubs would have to make some insane travels more often but the fact that both teams overperformed last season meant that the two would be probably the first top tier representatives from their home regions.

The Dead Arm Road team returned for the season's Street Hoops Invitational hosted at Karishi with many scouts actively paying attention to the team. The fact that many of their players had now reached the age of fifteen made them rather interesting for the current Hinodejin Basketball League while also showing the rather amazing gap of talent between the natural squads and the cyborgs. Still, the season saw a surprising challenger reach the quarter-finals as the sole natural squad with seven cyborg teams standing as opposition: Shintochi's Amadores da Vila da Estrela featured a squad that, while not amazing, were able to survive four rounds of competition before bowing down to eventual back-to-back champions Dead Arm Road.

In the academical level, the National High School Tournament found itself in familiar hands as the Senso-Shukujo Ladies HS claimed the title over Mashu Elite HS in front of a packed house while the All-Hinode University Tournament was claimed by first-time champions Mikashu University.

REGULAR SEASON
The top tier saw a very close duel for the title between former power team Mashu Wolves, now reformed with the addition of power forward Wong Yin and the usually overlooked Reishima Drakkar who have been slowly but surely forming a respectable squad. In the end, lead by Alita Yamakura, the Wolves were able to edge out the Drakkar for the sixth title in their own history. Going down, however, were the Saikaishi Suns, the Tsushike Clippers and the Sirena Cavaliers: none of the three proved much in this season and thus find themselves rightfully under.
The second tier witnessed the promotion of two fairly young teams in Remile Pop and Nanti Bretons.

SPECIAL MOMENT OF THE SEASON
MATCHDAY 7 - Misei vs. Shinshabona

Adamastor Cunha skated the ice in a circular fashion, skipping past the goal of his own team. He was inside the Misei Memorial Rink, the venue with a rather impressive capacity for a city that was still rebuilding itself to some extent (20,000 seats). While the DJ was having some fun with the fact the game was at a Saturday night, this was the one duel that Hinodejin media imagined would be a duel of everything but the kitchen sink: the former Dreamplanetian capital now under the name of Shinshabona and their first-ever hockey team in the Shinshabona Fury were being hosted by the one city that got attacked by their people, Misei City and their very own Hooligans.

Things had been somewhat different for both teams so far, Shinshabona only had a win over fellow newbies Karishi Chic while regularly getting stomped by sides that were, in the past, playing on the top tier. It was a fact that the populace of Shintochi wasn't all that familiar with the sport of ice hockey and they themselves didn't make much of an effort towards learning en masse. The roster still had players from the province, which so far meant that they had defender Íris Madeira as their stalwart and a roster of aged players and a couple of noteworthy rookies. Adamastor Cunha himself was the finest find the team made when scrubbing for any kind of player at a young age they could find.

While they struggled out of the box, their opponents were better prepared for a hockey season and proved it by dispatching some serious opposition so far, including a game against the Kari Aeros where Misei won. The Hooligans, previously called the Chiefs in their beta phase, were better funded, which meant their roster was less limited and more up to par with the competition, albeit not that close from it. What really mattered was that the Fury was a weaker team and thus were expected to drop dead.

Adamastor then scored twice and got the Fury their second year of the season. Go figure.

2143 SEASON

PRE-SEASON
What at first sounded like an expansion that would further the conferences by a single team, the league instead chose to go the way of the Basketball League and form tiers. With the addition of six teams (the Shinshabona Lions, the Misei Hooligans, the Karishi Chic, the Reishima Aurora, the Dinyi Highlanders and the Tetsuo Underground), the Conference format was killed off and thus got itself replaced by a tiered pyramid, starting from the Super 16 tier while Division A represented a second division and the weaker teams from the league, joined by the expansion teams became Division B, the final step on the bottom. Additionally, the league retired their short-lived, classic logo for an updated version that worked to complement the league's new format.

Things followed as usual on the outside: both the National Inter-Collegiate Hockey Tournament (nicknamed the NICHT) witnessed a national playoff where teams ranging from the likes of Minaduki Academy and Nashihana College of Arts, institutions that aren't well known for their athletic acumen, would square off with the likes of Kuroba University, Somei-Yoshino University and the eventual winners Mido-Hinode University. In spite of lacking their most illustrious manager Kira Nishigakira (now running the Shira-Hinode Musketeers), the program is still fierce with her substitute Yuna Matsuyama.

Another noteworthy tournament was the High School Hockey Parade, a tournament that has been escalating in relevance since selecting a single venue (The Kawasobu Parade Park) to host their knockout stage while also more or less merging every single attempt of a high school tournament into one. Senso-Shukujo Ladies High School, already a fourteen-time champion in their own circuit (which has been recognized) arrived in a very similar fashion to how their seasons go, slapping the home team Kawasobu Ransom High School by 7-3 on the final to claim their fifteenth trophy.

THE SUPER 16
Featuring the top sixteen teams of the Hinodejin Hockey Championship, eight from both of the former conferences, the Super 16 started out with some clear groups: eight contenders and eight trying to avoid the inaugural relegation zone. Oddly, the three main contenders were the Giishiga Bears, the Tsuki Jets and the Mereti Colts: three teams that were from rather uncommon regions, two of those being near the geographical center of the Hinodejin Empire. Throughout the season, however, the contention group witnessed a surprise appearance from the Nukutaki Penguins, a traditional team that too was a bit far north from the more populated centers of the Empire. Norio Yumeshira ended up guaranteeing the team the first-ever round-robin edition of the Hinodejin hockey league, thus earning their eighth title.

Going down, the Hinode Guardians are easily the most notable team of the three that ended up having the "honour" of being the first teams to get relegated from the Super 16. A tragic story for a team that was, more or less, one of the inaugural teams of the league as the Guardians, indeed, happened to be founded when excess players relocated from the Kurosawa Wanderers club as it merged with the Kurosawa Natives. This does guarantee that both teams will be squaring off next season in a rather interesting rivalry.

DIVISION A
The first season of Hinodejin second-tier hockey was really a showcase for a single team: the Shiva Raiders. One of the league's many Steppes-based teams, the Raiders slowly but surely built up a strong first line with Yūsuke Kumagae, Takāki Tomisaki and Tsubame Mizushima that became the quintessential terror for all defences out there. Following them, the Ainubyu Ainus witnessed former Ainushima University alumni Karin Ishikawa catch on fire for the club, becoming their main scorer. The Munikawa Eagles finished the top three barely, getting a lucky win against the Akira Comets to do so.

Relegated were the Shoge Bolts, the Nishi Gears and the Jugishiga Whalers, none of the relegations being all that surprising.

DIVISION B
Arguably the most polemic division of the three, some teams were actually considering pulling out of the pyramid when they found out they would be playing at the "lowest tier of the sport" even if that ignored the non-league sides. In the end, both Himegono Nationals, Saishu Stags and Hokuto Flames agreed to participate in Division B, after being taunted that they wouldn't be able to clinch promotion and would lose out to some of the well-funded expansion teams by the media. In the end, Hokuto Flames' club president Takachichi Miyamoto announced that there was "no way in hell" that an expansion team would get promoted at the end of the season.

A singular reply to such a comment was elicited at the end of the season, "Comment Allez-Vous?". The Karishi Chic, a team that happens to be from one of the most illustrious capitals of the western world (and now a heavy hitter of the western portion of the Empire) built up a great roster while waiting for the season to start. Their starter group of Paquet, Christiansson, Richelieu, Forest, Gauthier and Chastain pounced against opponents and were able to leave the ice picking valuable points that would, in the end, give them the honour of being Division B's first champions. Following them to Division A are the Dinyi Highlanders and the Kitsunemachi Foxes. Flames, Nationals and Stags now wait for another try at Division B conquest.

INTRODUCTION FOR THE SEASON
While other leagues were busier with expansion, the Hinodejin Gridiron League instead preferred to focus on establishing itself as a major tournament in the Empire. No flashy teams from the western part of the Empire, no surprise team from the recent additional province of Shintochi (the former Dreamplanet), not even a team from the city of Misei. That would lead to some kerfuffles outside of the league but for the time being, the self-proclaimed Top Division saw play remain at the same level as it was last season: surprisingly competitive and in a level of equality that the Empire doesn't usually see in a sports league.

With every team from the previous season returning to play for a new edition of the Hinodejin Gridiron League, the real catch was who would be able to find a way to get ahead of their competition even if barely. Their one attempt was to shop abroad: in a penny-pinching manner, the Hinodejin teams tried to sneak around the legality of dealing with hopeful players from lands in diplomatic lock-out but soon found it to be way more hassle than it was worth it. Instead, the biggest news was that Hinodejin clubs were hiring players from South Wheatley. The Futurnian nation was still figuring out their own gridiron league at the moment these signings came to be but it was still enough to generate some hype for the new season.

Fans were expecting a title run for a myriad of teams: the Jaguars were a bit of a surprise last season and their line-up just seemed to be strengthening itself in the off-season with some acquisitions from across the border, while the Haimei Wranglers were apparently eyeing Meng Plain's domination while both Mashu Riot and Kawasobu Hooligans looked to bring the title to somewhere more traditional as far as champion breeding places went in the Empire. And then there were the one Tentai team people expected to finally get a title: the Jiangshi.

The Jiangshi roster was heavily based after the Hanada Breakers, one of the more influential teams of the league in its' older days but they always seemed to be missing that little piece that could make it all work for the self-proclaimed "Hope of the Capital City". In spite of this, however, the other Tentai team decided, for whatever reason, to enforce their squad with foreigners, including their Quarterback, South Wheatley-born LaTohey Wattson. Nicknamed "The Knight of Tentai", his passes soared through the skies, including a key pass that saw them barely edge over the Nikai Groove by a mere three points, eliminating the need for a playoff at the very last match of the season.

MEANWHILE...
at the Merchant State of Gran Torche de Saint-Michel
"I don't get this, boss." A young man covered from top to bottom in some high-tech gear at an isolated room located in the middle of nowhere that so happened to be under Saint-Michel jurisdiction. "How exactly does this whole thing benefits our activities?"

The boss smiled, holding a dark gridiron helmet with the stylized drawing of an orange fox. "It might not look like it at first, but this Hinodejin Championship thing is way more than a little sports tournament. A perfect chance for the Mercenaries sans Frontières."

He lowered it on a mahogany table, taking his seat with pleasantry behind it. "The multiverse will fear the Foxhounds."

- Notably, last edition's champions (Kanshiro Lopunnies) chose to reject the invitation to participate in the Traveller's Trophy as they would be busy with the IFCF tournaments.
So instead of them, the invitation was extended to runners-up Jeane Palace who promptly accepted. Interdimensional Misei also signalized they'd be interested in participating but were rejected by the tournament's organization.

Q-Bee Honeyame (HIN) 2; Cloud Park Rovers (NWH) 1
Saint Anne National Stadium, Saint Anne, Islands of Saint Anne
Attendance: 23000 (1000 free)

QBE - QBE - Ragay (AFT); Bikyitsu, Karemon (Ecclestone (MOR) 45') , di Biasi (AUD), Eiji (Koga 45'); Lennon (EFL), Miguel Benedito (Hollysson (NYJ) 75'), Mashuri; Kirishima, Gardot [C], Pnishi (ETN)
CPR - Hasselhoff; Winthorpe, Steele, Petrovich (Frazier 66'), Pechisolido; Robinson [C], Taylor, Blackwood (Commons 83'), Cunningham; Tweedle (Patterson 83'), Delvecchio
Goals - (QBE) Pnishi 13', Gardot 40' / (CPR) Delvecchio 89'

A rather unthreatening affair for the favourites as Q-Bee Honeyame almost ran away with it. Cloud Park Rovers, known as the best team of North Wheatley, managed to at least bring some respect to their local league by holding up the rather furious advances of the Hinodejin club that not too long ago was lifting the Hinodejin league title. Halfway through, Q-Bee Honeyame saw fit to put in some of their reserves while still retaining their offensive football, making sure that the Northern Wheatleyian side wouldn't be able to get in too many shots. Danica Delvecchio, however, managed to get a small goal in near the end, not enough to challenge their opponents' lead, guaranteeing another title for the Hinodejin league, following Kanshiro Lopunnies' efforts last time around.

THE BIENNIAL ON THE SHADOWS
Volleyball was suffering in the Hinodejin Empire. It wasn't a problem that had just started, but rather a problem that had just continued growing as options of sports to watch: not only football remained the top sport for Hinodejin audiences but other sports were also mounting their own stands. The Hinodejin Hockey Championship, already the nation's second sport had lucked out in their quest for expansion, finding great followings across the Empire to the point where even the league's third division saw crowds able to fill up 20,000 seaters.

Volleyball's status as the nation's third sport had also fallen thanks to a group of contenders that came from all over the place: Gridiron had survived the debacle instigated by the Ministry of Sports and was now deemed red hot thanks to a myriad of characters, such as the living legend (that hadn't exactly won any titles in two seasons but still held his pedigree high) Kyo Matsudaira, the devoted but largely lacking in stellar talent (although usually compensated by his luck) Keiji Inamoto, the star foreigner LaTohey Wattson and the rather enchanting (in more ways than one) Miss Dee-Vyne Lee, the legendary manager of the Nikai Groove. With that cast, the league was already throwing some shade at the rather lacklustre state of volley, only for the first week after the end of the season reveal that the league would be introducing teams backed by mercenary groups from Saint-Michel, including the responsible squad for dropping that bit of news: the Kawasuki Foxhounds. Suffice to say, the news that the new flashy team of the Gridiron league would be playing at the home of a certain star team of the V-League ruffled some feathers.

Another league who had a history of scruffles with volleyball, albeit usually being in the receiving end than the other way around, was the Hinodejin Empire Baseball League. Baseball shared home turfs with volleyball for a good reason: the predecessors of the population born at Nashihana featured names of both the Sunrisian volleyball and baseball leagues and when they eventually established the province, volleyball ended up winning out the minds of fans over there while baseball stagnated. An investigation did point out how Asuka, the westerner that led to the bankruptcy and later suicide of former millionaire Shinji Ikari, had some links to Nashihana College of Arts, at the time fielding a volleyball team that did play at the V-League for a while before calling it quits. Like an act of revenge from the grave, however, Baseball had finally managed to get out of the planning stages with an actual league thanks to the financial success of the Misei City Yorozuya. While not filled with characters, they did see some awesome play out of the more unorthodox players (read cyborgs) that the league featured.

Basketball had clearly surpassed volleyball thanks to the efforts of the Hinodejin Basketball League. The league had been key in the integration of cyborg players, although by 2142, the balance was clearly in favour of the cyborg-kind instead of players who didn't require the extensions that the entire process of cyberization offered. Other sports were also throwing shade in their own ways, however. While the Hinodejin Ho'omalu Nalu had been somewhat of a failure, smaller professional surf circuits were established, including Nashihana's very own "Monarchs of the Beach" which had already crowned at least five different champions, with Ko-orenite Llefwdd yMwbham being the biggest Queen of the circuit with three wins and Chikage Hanada having two crowns of King so far.

Skateboarding had started out as a thing of Ainushima after the very bored surfers of Kizukimishima Beach decided to practice in a closed pool while the rain poured but soon, the arrival of a single tape changed that entirely. To this day, one of the most notorious (and infamous) scenes of Hinodejin skateboarding has to be "Can I Kick It?", a twenty-minute tape featuring Taro Kurichima, Kenji Matsuoka and Mamoru Daito pulling tricks over the rooftops of a condominium in downtown Kawasuki with the track of the same name serving as the beat. It wouldn't be uncommon of later skate tapes to feature old rap classics and the birth of skateboarding channel Kickflip TV would become an outlet for the skate culture both stabilize their relevance in some centers and even create itself in other parts of the Empire, while also unearthing key players for the future of the culture like Momiji Hiroki, Kaoru Waseda, Sho Minamikatsu, "Crash" Ken Fujikatsu and the Eastside Gang from the Hwangju plains.

Other unorthodox options would materialize in the shape of the Formula Hinode, a local competition running with about the same level of speed as the more well-known WGPC but funded entirely by Hinodejin interests and being disputed only inside the Empire. Formula Hinode exposed Hinodejin fans to the excitement of motorsports and soon enough found itself getting bigger and with even higher stakes. Puroesu, the name for professional wrestling inside the empire found itself hot after decades of complacency thanks to amazing wrestlers and charismatic personalities, all of which culminated at the biggest event of the Empire ever, the 59th Wrestle Cup.

Volleyball, alas, struggled to fill arenas and barring exceptions, the V-League seemed doomed to eventually go under. Something would change that, however.
