Constitutional Convention Comes to a Close with the December General Elections Looming
by North Plegia
The Constitutional Convention was terminated by the Attorney General on the 23rd of November for failing to meet its intended objectives, namely the ratification of a final Constitution for the Union of Democratic States to adopt. The Senate was not appealed to extend the Convention, therefore resulting in the closure of the convention, per the law.
The adoption of a new constitution alongside a legislative reset remains one of the primary priorities of the premiership of Prime Minister The Noble Thatcherites. In the words of Senator North Plegia, a leading figure of the Way Forward Caucus, this would provide "a blank slate -- a fresh page for the Union to work with, one where we can ratify new Acts and found new constitutional doctrines, not bogged down by outdated, arcane, obsolete, (and often conflicting) pieces of legislation."
Other Unionists are not impressed by this vision for the region and such sentiments will loom over the December general election. In December the positions of Prime Minister, Attorney General, and World Assembly Delegate will be open for contest. There exists significant pressure for the incoming 2020 Government to find a resolution to the constitutional impasse, and the future antidote for this problem is not entirely clear -- is it through another convention, or does it lie with improved administrative action in recruitment and management?UDSAF Activity Report
