Honestly the reaction was far more positive than I expected. The majority of people who voted in polls seemed to think the movie good to okay. I thought it would be far more negative.

As for the SJW thing I agree but I don’t think anyone has really brought that up here

The sequel movies fall in with like Ghostbusters '16 and Captain Marvel as far as the whole "SJW!" business goes.

That is, there's not really any "SJW" stuff in the movies themselves, it's mostly people involved with the production saying dumb things that stir up arguments. "The Force is female!" "People just hate a female cast!" "I don't care about a white mans opinion on movies!" etc.

In another thread I even had to make a list of well loved SW characters who aren't white or male.

I thought seeing TFA and TLJ back to back would help me enjoy and appreciate them more. Instead, it's made me dislike them even more. Really shows how disconnected and messy this trilogy was.

On another note... honestly if there was one thing that really grinded my gears about ROS...

How the fudge nuggets was a Star Destroyer shot down by its own turret?! You'd think they'd have noticed, or put in prevention mechanisms in their 30 year prep time. What's stupider is that a giant ship getting just shot in the bridge destroys it entirely. Kinda like the Executor, but even that had a better excuse.

At the moment, it's more of a dead tie in favor of dislike (excluding the neutrals, 3 more dislikes of some sort than likes).

It's good nobody else has brought that up. I don't give any fucks about that aspect and it doesn't influence how I evaluate movies. Fixating on a movie because it has more females or stuff isn't really anything of substance.

People were ranting about SJWs even before the press tours started. Like as soon as the first TFA trailer dropped.

Is the Ghost being in TROS really a spoiler when it was front and centre in one of the trailers?

What if the turret is very strong and its shots are very powerful to take down bigger ships? Still, a mere turret on a capital ship shouldn't be easy to take the ship down.

Next year in February, we have the final season of Clone Wars to look forward to. Disney could screw it up in terms of execution, but it has a precedent of being greater than Rebels and is beloved in general as being the greatest media about the prequels made to date.

I don't see how Disney could, since Dave Filoni is still in charge of Clone Wars' production.

Yeah, and I think they're using old Season 7 scripts, so not much can be added.

Finally got around to seeing RoS. It wasn’t good, but it wasn’t terrible. It was an up and down ride of decently entertaining moments and deeply disappointing moments. Worth seeing though. People got my expectations so low that the parts that worked were a pleasant surprise.

There were a few things I liked. The Rey and Kylo interactions were pretty good up until the kiss they seemingly put in for the benefit of Fanfiction.net. One of the better things Abrams took from TLJ I think.

Finally a yellow lightsaber in a film. Why’d it take so long?

Hux being the spy was a decent idea. He’s not developed well at any point in the trilogy, but at least he now has an arc of turning against Kylo Ren.

Palpatine really hams it up, so he’s at least fun to listen to.

And the visuals are as well done as ever when you’re not getting seizure inducing Exogol and the rapid setting swaps at the beginning that put the planet shifts of Rogue One and Episode III to shame.

I found there were a lot of concepts I liked the idea of. They just weren’t fleshed out well.

I liked that the galactic community as a whole rose up against the First Order. Of course it all happens off screen just like the First Order’s rise and the New Republic’s fall because Abrams won’t give any real scale to his settings, but points for trying.

I like that they finally remembered the potential of Finn’s defection and introduced a community of First Order defectors. Too bad there weren’t any developed characters among them and the rest of the First Order remained generic and expendable.

And I like Rey taking the Skywalker name at the end and that it goes from a bloodline to an actual identity. I know people complain that Rey isn’t just her own character anymore, but she’s not really bound to any establishment or legacy at the end. She’s still free to do whatever she wants with her life and training, so I think she still embodies this idea that anyone can make their own fate.

And those are all of my idle theatre thoughts that survived the trip home. I guess the rest of the film was just kind of... there.

I won’t list complaints because I could go on and on, but god. God. The Palpatine stuff was not necessary. I’m sure you all have heard this before, but it felt straight out of Reddit. Abrams must have gotten drunk and read those old Dark Horse comics. Actually, he probably just went over the Wookieepedia summaries. He sure as hell went to a lot of other writers for the dialogue.

Really I’m getting sick of numbered Star Wars movies, and I’m not sure I care if they ever do another one. They’re so beholden to past movies and fan service that it gets in the way of telling a new story.
TG me about my avatars for useless trivia.

Said jawas were armed with stun weaponry and outnumbered him a lot and he was right on the edge of their crawler.

Im glad the Mando is completely overpowered and feels like an underdog at time and does take hits and loses occasionally, thus having to approach something a bit differently.

I don’t see why though. Jawas have been shown to be fully intelligent life and they not only had numbers but basically a moving fortress that the Mandalorian had to assault by himself on foot. The fact he managed to even get on the crawler is actually quite impressive.

I just got thinking about Attack of the Clones again, and god damn does that movie annoy my happiness, all the Jango shit alone is fucking stupid.

Hired to kill a Republic senator by Dooku and the Separatists, so he works with another bounty hunter to kill her with a bomb, this fails, so he gets her to try again, this time with a small droid that got spit out little death bugs. This other bounty hunter is a changeling by the way and can literally change what she looks like, so of course she doesnt do that once the entire time. Not like it would have been handy when you crashed next to that bar and had huge crowds to hide amongst, and instead of just escaping she puts herself in danger trying to shoot anakin in the back.

Then when the robot fails, after it puts the bugs through the GIANT OPEN WINDOW WHERE THE TARGET IS SLEEPING, Jango decides to chase after the jedi to kill the other bounty hunter, leaving his now defenceless target all alone, then leaves the planet and fucks off to Kimino, instead of murdering Padme right there, you know with a rifle, or a bomb, or you know the fucking rocket he has built into his jetpack.

And later, later Obi Wan finds out Jango is the basis for a secret clone army that is for the republic. So the bounty hunter, in league with the separatists, who just tried to kill a republic senator, is the template for the republics new army of clone soldiers who are totally obedient to any order. And Obi Wan doesnt think this is a bad and highly dangerous situation? Do none of the Jedi think about this for more than a fucking second?
