TEAM HISTORY
This is the official roster, featuring the Elite Eleven, an independent squad of Drawkians who have played all sports at a professional level for a confusingly long time. The old Kick Corps has been essentially removed, the players let go, and replaced by this squad of ridiculously skilled, annoyingly arrogant, and possibly immortal sportsmen. Nobody knows where they came from, or why DISC decided to replace the Kick Corps with them, but here they are. Just don't ask the baseball fans about them.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the Eleven are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Despite the fact that usually soccer is a female-only sport in Drawkland, the Elite Eleven have overturned that caveat as the higher-ups deemed them a suitable replacement in the interim as the real Kick Corps hides away for a few cycles and gets their shit back together.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes
Yellow Card my Players: Yes
Red Card my Players: Yes
Godmod Other Events: Yes
As far as these go, I'm fair game for anything. You should know what is and isn't drastic RP, and if you think your RP is on the drastic side, TG me first. But I'm still basically up for anything.
I'd like to request that injuries or cards don't do anything outside of the scope of a single game or maybe 2. Don't want anything tournament or cycle-ending. Red cards should be limited to late knockout stages, and I'd probably think that there should be no more than 2 players red carded per tournament.
The Elite Eleven are sorta oddballs. I mean, they're a group of 11 dudebros, but they're supposedly immortal or something. Keep that in mind.

Disclaimers of various sorts:
I don't know very much about soccer. If I RP something weird, it's because I have little to no experience with this sport. But whatever.
If you have any questions about anything involving me, this team, my nation, this competition, life, etc., feel free to telegram me.

Kit

Image

Flavovespia go into this cycle with some new kits, and they are very striking. After the more subdued design for their inaugural campaign, the kit designer went with a much more visual display. The Double V now flies over the shoulders, and curves downwards into the chest and torso of the body. This design reflects the flag of Flavovespia, whilst not simply pasting the Double V onto the kit. The whole design has been described as “retro” and “old-school” by many who have seen it. Black shorts and socks go with it, also using a curved double V in yellow as trim on the kit.

Where necessary, Flavovespia have a black away kit again. This, the shorts and socks, are what is known as a “palette reversal”, the same kit template but with reversed colours. These designs stem from the rules of club football, which rarely permit a team to use bespoke shorts and socks outside of their registered home and away kits. Thus often teams seek to have shorts and socks on both kits that work with home and away shirts, although this isn’t essential.

The third kit is unusual for Flavovespia, in that it uses a colour template not seen before. Once again it is white, a typical away or third kit colour. However, despite the use of the template from the home and away kit, the trim is red and blue. Officially this is for occasions where it’s not suitable to wear kits featuring yellow and/or black. In practice, the red and blue are a subtle nod to the cities of Hadford Hill and St Astons. Both in the past felt that the colours and national identity of Flavovespia were an extension of the capital Waldster, and in the past those complaints were seen by many as very reasonable. This kit in some ways tries to come up with a way of better reflecting all parts of the nation. The FFA have also confirmed that they will wear this at least once in the campaign, even if not necessarily needed. A tradition that for club teams is usually frown upon and derided, but one there seems to be more acceptance for at national level.

Roster

Number Name Age, Position Club Caps Goals

1 David Meehan, 29, GK, Bavingtor, 9, 0

It was hard to argue against Meehan returning with the #1 jersey. Injured for the AOCAF Cup 59, which is why his caps seem relatively low. Bullivant and Dobson did a decent job at the AOCAF Cup 59, however Meehan has continued to look like the best keeper in Flavovespia at club and international level. At 29, he’s becoming an experienced head, and is at his prime performance level it seems. If he can stay at that level, he probably has at least a few more tournaments in the #1 shirt for the national side.

2 Ronald Maddox, 28, DEF, Marthorpe City, 20, 1

A powerful performer at club level, Maddox has stepped it up at international level, to stamp his name on the #2 shirt for another international tournament. At times he did look shaky, especially in the early stages of the tournament, but has grown into them over time. Typically a wing back at club level, he can also play as a left back. A pacey player with a good cross on him, he can make runs downfield, but is also improving the defensive side of his game internationally.

3 Ian Johnson, 27, DEF, Binclestead Wood, 8, 0

Johnson made his debut at the AOCAF Cup 59. Originally selected to play anywhere across the back, at club and national level he has impressed as a centre back and a right back. This time out he gets the #3 shirt, a clear sign that Nick Cole values him as a starter, although likely as a right back. Very much a player without any obvious weaknesses or strengths, he is dependable but also not a star performer. It will be interesting to see how in the World Cup Qualifiers 84 he performs, especially in what some think is his secondary position.

4 Mark James, 30, DEF, Marthorpe City, 21, 1

A resolute centre back, Mark James has increasingly played an important role in the Flavovespia national side, and his 21 caps is a testament to that. Instantly recognisable with his long hair and hairband, James is a key defender at club and country level. A veteran now, he will look to provide strength at the back as well as confidence, especially when the team play with just 4 at the back. James will hopefully impress and look to add to his impressive tally of caps, in the medium term.

5 Tony Gardner, 24, DEF, Kings Lunsel, 22, 0

Present in all 3 Flavovespia international squads now, Gardner is fast becoming one of the top centre backs in the nation, and potentially one of the long term figures in the national side. As well as generally showing a strong defensive presence, he is also relatively adept with the ball at his feet, something many centre backs lack. This is a big asset for playing out slowly, and something Cole will try when necessary. A player with a good future ahead of him, this shouldn’t be his last tournament in the #5 shirt.

6 Alan Holt, 28, MID, Hadford Hill, 0, 0

First of the debut players in the side. With Jensen getting older, and Wolfson and Winward also not particularly impressive in the centre of the park, fans were wondering who would partner King in midfield. Alan Holt, the central midfielder of Hadford Hill appears to be the answer. He was a backup to the 23 man squad for AOCAF Cup 59, but wasn’t called up. He plays this position well at club level, and Cole clearly sees Holt able to put in the defensive work required to play in a 4-2-3-1. The fact it is the formation used by Hadford Hill should help Holt. Despite being more of a defensive than an attacking midfielder, don’t ignore him if he’s in an advanced position.

7 James King, 29, MID, Stanmorn, 26, 4 (Vice Captain)

Unsurprisingly, James King returns in the #7 jersey to the national side, the vice captain an integral part of the national team setup. Playing as the playmaker of the team, his abilities to make passes allow him to sit deeper on the pitch, giving the side a stronger defensive shape, especially if a defender pushes up from the back. Confident on the ball, if he plays to the best of his abilities, he can certainly influence any game.

8 David Michael, 28, ATT, Westwood Garden City, 0, 0

A player who was very impressive in the Challenge League, and is seemingly continuing that form in the Super League, Michael is a somewhat surprising call up to the #8 shirt for the World Cup Qualifiers 84. Playing as a wide attacker on the left at club level, Michael will be tasked with playing as more of an inside forward, but slightly deeper. It’ll be interesting to see how he does this. Maybe not the slickest dribbler or finisher in the world, but he has a huge amount of pace and acceleration, which can get him past defenders in a flash.

9 Terence Daley, 28, ATT, Marthorpe City, 4, 0

Played a small part for Flavovespia in AOCAF Cup 59, however he has done enough in the eyes of Nick Cole at club level to get the #9 shirt this time. He will probably line up as the front striker in the 4-2-3-1, but expect to see him transition a lot with the #10 or equivalent, creating a 4-2-2-2. He’s scored plenty at club level, with the ability to hustle the defence and be a bit of a fox in the box at set pieces, and will be looking for his first international goal.

10 Scott Coleman, 23, ATT, Stanmorn, 21, 11

A breakout star in the last World Cup Qualifiers, Coleman is now well established as one of the finest strikers in Flavovespia, despite his young age. Often best playing off the shoulder of another striker, he can drift deep, only to then pounce with a turn of pace. He can sometimes find himself isolated in games with strong defences, however he is a resolute player, and rarely gives up on a game. Likely to be one of the players who will be a part of the national team in the long term.

11 Steven Hall, 26, MID, Hadford Hill, 26, 8 (Captain)

It is impossible to discuss the Flavovespia national team without mentioning their captain and talisman Steven Hall. One of the finest players in the nation for a generation, he will be remembered at club and national level without a doubt. Typically he is best on the wing in an attacking midfield position. This gives him freedom to dribble and take on the defence, always looking for a shot, pass and cross, and seemingly waiting until there’s an opportunity and going for it. He can be a real maestro on the ball, and probably the crucial player of the side.

12 Andrew Bullivant, 30, GK, Langmere Green Rovers, 2, 0

It seemed like after AOCAF Cup 59, the battle would be between Bullivant and Dobson for the second choice of Flavovespia goalkeeper. In his 2 appearances Bullivant seemed relatively assured in goal, with no major errors. Despite Dobson being the main starter in that tournanment, Nick Cole names Andrew Bullivant the second choice keeper An interesting decision, with club form arguably playing a part as well. How many starts Bullivant gets will depend on how Meehan does on his return to international football.

13 Joseph Pitchford, 23, DEF, Binclestead Wood, 0, 0

Pitchford comes in as the backup choice in the left-back position, joining fellow club defender Ian Johnson in the national team squad. Pitchford plays the left back position more as a true defender as opposed to a defender who also looks to advance up the field, quite a contrast to Ronald Maddox. In some respects this does make Pitchford an ideal choice for coming off the bench or starting games where defence and not offence is needed. Still young at 23, any good displays here, and that could get him a place in future national sides.

14 Neil Wright, 24, DEF, Stanmorn, 11, 0

One of the slightly more controversial call ups. Although Wright is now in the 3rd Flavovespia squad for a row, critics are beginning to ask if he’s really showing enough to warrant that. His work on the ball is impressive for a defender, but he at times has shown he needs to get to grips with the fundamentals of defending at international level. Many, including Nick Cole see him as having potential to go on and be a top defender, but a few are questioning if he has any more improvement left in him.

15 Alexander May, 26, DEF, Langmere Green Rovers, 5, 0

Alexander May was given a starting shirt at the AOCAF Cup 59, but didn’t quite live up to the expectations. This sees him pushed back to a bench position. Quite an old school no nonsense defender, he’ll be best in situations where flashy forward play is not the answer, and a solid defensive line up is needed. At 26, he still has time to make plenty more international appearances, if he can impress Nick Cole or any potential future Flavovespia manager. This tournament isn’t quite “make or break” for Alexander May, but there is plenty of centre backs in Flavovespia keen to take a place in the 23 man squad in the future.

16 David Blythe, 21, DEF, Marthorpe City, 0, 0

At 21, one of the youngest ever players called up to the Flavovespia side. He was impressive in an otherwise struggling Carston Green team a few seasons ago, which saw Marthorpe City sign him for £13m. Since then he’s started down the right wing, and has impressed enough to get called up for the national side at a young age. He’s a very similar style of player to Ronald Maddox, his club team mate on the opposite side of the field. He may not be the most defensive minded right back in the nation, which could prove to be a weakness internationally. However he’s pacey and can hit a decent cross, a danger for the opposition when he goes on the overlap.

17 Jonathan Feld, 25, MID, Marthorpe City, 10, 1

Feld is another player from the Marthorpe City ranks to make it into the Flavovespia side for the World Cup Qualifiers 84. A tricky player to categorise. He plays on the left of a central midfield trio at club level, however is more attack minded than defence minded. At international level, he tends to play anywhere across the front 3 behind the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 setup. A utility payer of sorts, he’s unlikely to be one of the crucial players of the Flavovespia side, but can’t be ruled out for making a good number of appearances, as he has repeatedly shown enough talent to stay in the national side.

18 Jordaan Wolfson, 32, MID, Kings Lunsel, 10, 0

A veteran midfielder, Wolfson isn’t ever going to set the world alight with a dazzling display, however he can usually be called upon to give a solid, dependable performance. Largely a backup for Flavovespia, he can usually get appearances off the bench or sometimes as a starter. A good midfielder with a defensive mindset, he can be key in coming on to try and preserve a lead. One of the oldest players in the squad, he’ll look to provide some guidance and maturity for the younger members to look up to.

19 Nigel Humphries, 28, MID, Hadford Hill, 0, 0

Another debutant, one of a trio of Hadford Hill players to do so in this squad. At club level he plays alongside Holt in a midfield duo, quite like the 4-2-3-1 of the national side. Humphries is the more creative of the two, occupying a similar role to James King of the national side. Humphries is very good at short balls and through balls, even if his vision and long ball accuracy can let him down. He’s also tall at 192cm, making him a danger from set pieces and a nuisance for other midfielders. How many chances he’ll get with King ahead of him in the lineup remains to be seen.

20 Edward Barkes, 28, ATT, Hadford Hill, 0, 0

Another Hadford Hill debutant in the national side. Barkes had been listed as a reserve player in the extended 30 man team before whilst at Kings Lunsel. He moved to Hadford Hill for £16m, and has since looked a strong player. Thought of as an old school poacher originally, he’s shown an ability to adapt to playing as a lone striker. His finishing is probably his strongest point, but as has shown good adaptability and development of his creative play, especially for Hadford Hill with Steven Hall to link up with. With the competition for places in the Flavovespia front 4 very strong, Barkes will need to be at his strongest to get many games for his nation.

21 Marc Sharratt, 22, ATT, St Astons City, 0, 0

St Astons City made a risky £21m transfer for Marc Sharratt recently, but his potential he showed at Sporting Towerhaite has carried through to St Astons City into real talent. A central forward, he may not be the most clinical finisher, but his good vision and passing skills make him a fine choice for a “false nine”, as he can fool defenders and create space for his teammates. It’s hard to exactly pinpoint how he’ll fit in for Flavovespia, but with players like Hall, Coleman and Michael available for him to link up with on the pitch, he could be a useful asset in one of the central attacking positions.

22 Henrik Jensen, 32, MID, Langmere Green Rovers, 24, 1

Jensen has been instrumental to Flavovespia in their first two tournaments. Now at the age of 32, he’s somewhat unfortunately been displaced by the younger generation of players. One of the team with a relatively high level of international experience, he can provide a sense of experience to the side others will lack. A no-nonsense midfielder, sometimes described as a centre back who somehow found himself in midfield, he’s always looking to stop any attacks from getting to advanced positions. Somewhat ill-tempered at times, a player who does wear his heart on his sleeve so to speak. Potentially his last international tournament, so when he does play, he’ll look to go out in style.

23 Robert Jones, 25, GK, Kings Lunsel, 0, 0

In a surprise move, Nicholas Dobson doesn’t make it into the 23 man squad at all. Instead Robert Jones, the Kings Lunsel keeper has been called up, based on some good club form. Many are surprised by the move, especially as Dobson wasn’t dreadful at the AOCAF Cup 59, or in his one outing vs Western Bjornaic at the last World Cup Qualifiers. However it’s Jones who is the 3rd choice. Given the last #23, Lucky Diamond didn’t start, it’s possible Jones doesn’t either. If he does, expect a traditional goalkeeping performance. Strong in open play, but slightly weaker from set pieces, and not a keeper particularly keen to have the ball at feet, much more of a hit it downfield type of keeper.

Manager Nick Cole, 44 - Dismissed after Matchday 4

Speculation about his job after the Cup of Harmony 75 seems to have been put on hold, after he took Flavovespia to 3rd out of 6 in their group at the AOCAF Cup 59, including 2 wins over 95X. Cole is more of an ability selector than a tactical fit selector, he likes to put what he sees as the best 11 on the field, instead of playing the best player per position. He has 2 main tactics in mind, a 4-2-3-1 and a 5-3-2. He is pragmatic and not too afraid to switch things up if need be. Generally well liked by the players, as he tries to give plenty of players chances off the bench, but also doesn’t make sweeping changes off the back of just 1 poor result or problem.

Interim Manager Marcus McCormick, 50 - Matchday 5-9
After the sacking of Nick Cole, Marcus McCormick, the Flavovespia assistant manager brought in under Nick Cole, will be the interim manager for an unspecified amount of time, likely between 1-4 matchdays. His managerial experience has been somewhat limited, largely a Waldster reserve and youth manager until brought in to be Cole's deputy at Waldster and Flavovespia. It's hard to know exactly what to expect from him, as he looks to try and steady the ship, and maybe display his own credentials in a bid to become the next permanent Flavovespia manager.

Manager Richard Crawford, 46
Hired to take over the National Team after Nick Cole's dismissal, and the relatively underwhelming performances of Interim Manager Marcus McCormick. At club level he took Stanmorn from midtable to their first ever Super League title, and a handful of Top 4 places before makign the step up to the national side. He's managed several of the national team players before. Despite playing a 5-2-1-2 at club level, he seems to favour a 4-2-2-2 or a 4-1-2-3 setup at national level.

Mattijanan Roster and Information for World Cup 84

The Story So Far

Despite a series of fairly average results in the World Cup, Mattijana have risen to the position of regional heavyweights within Esportiva. Successive bronze medals in the 20th and 21st tournaments were finally broken by a second-place finish in the 22nd addition, despite a 5-0 drubbing by Brenecia in the final. They finally claimed the big one last time round though, beating the same opposition by 2 goals to 1, winning their first tournament in the process. Despite missing key players, the squad backed up that result at CE 24, beating Damukuni in the third-place play off to win another bronze medal.

Despite continued regional success however, the country, including Dusan Vukoja's employers at the MattijanaFusBand, have become increasingly unhappy with Mattijana's dismal attempts at qualifying for a World Cup and despite a decent fist of it in which the team threw away their chances of a playoff with a 0-0 draw at lowly Saintland, Vukoja resigned before he got the chance to be sacked. There has been a hefty amount of turnover in the squad in recent months and the team has been rocked by the departure of all-time scorer Mathilde Lekarisa to birth-country Saint Émelie.

In an unorthodox attempt to salvage things, former FK Shalkar boss Zala Stefanidi was appointed just before Cup of Harmony 75. However, a poor showing there, and Mattijana's worst Campionato Esportiva in 6 attempts have already piled pressure onto the new manager, placing Mattijanan football into a state of disarray.

Stefanidi's international career may already depend on how she can perform in World Cup Qualifying. Beyond that, the state of Mattijanan football may also depend on a radically improved cycle.

Team Info

World Rank: 60
Esportivan Rank: 4
Style Modifier= +1.5
National Association: MattijanaFusbalBand (MFB)

Formation

Head Coach: Zala Stefanidi

Assistant Manager: Dominik Samikov (FK Burges)

The assistant manager at Championship leaders FK Burges hails from the North-East of Mattijana and began his career at Dinamo Legisaw, another division 2 side before then moving as one of the tactical staff to FK Burges, where he has since worked his way up the pecking order to assistant manager. He has an excellent tactical mind as well as good player welfare skills and helps out Ljubanik in both management areas. He has so far proved himself to be a capable aid.

Head Scout: Marcel Kuzbacher

Marcel Kuzbacher is a seasoned scout, mainly plying his trade for the famed Puljanka Academy. He has links with numerous players in the Mattijanan squad as well as the under-21 side and makes up the 3-man selection panel alongside Samikov and Ljubanik.

Fitness Coordinator: Jelena Neumanič

Jelena Neumanič is responsible for the diet and fitness of the squad, freeing up the main management team to think about tactical matters. She has a solid variety of exercises and is well-known for getting on player's backs if they don't keep up with their expected effort levels.

Psychologist: Samira Kazmir

Samira Kazmir is an experienced sports psychologist who has done work for both the summer and winter Olympic teams, the Mattijanan ITT side and the MRT motor racing team. She is responsible for the mental welfare of players, stretching from the collective mind-set to more personal issues for each individual in the squad. It's a far-reaching and often complicated task.

The Medical Team:

Head Doctor: Dr Charlotte Smitič
Assistant Doctor: Dr Mattias Buranov
Physio: Martina Laramazič
Physio: Mika Glasnić

The Players:
GK-Lucija Handanovic-#12-Age 29-FK Revinka
Understudy to Matej Handanovic for most of Ljubanik’s tenure, Lucija is again favourite to start between the sticks for Mattijana in the upcoming qualifiers. The 25 year old has impressed for club side Revinka in the recent season with both solid performances and heroic clean-sheets and will be tricky to keep out of a starting place.

LB-Helena Neumann-#2

The Burges Player is a regular in the championship leading side and will provide a good defensive option with the occasional run forward to help out the wingers. Barring any injuries or unlikely suspensions, she will play all of Mattijana's matches,

CB- Rikard Illicić-#14
The first Mattijanan player to move abroad, specifically to the top division in Buyan, Illicić was widely expected to replace Edvard Crajasović in the starting lineup on the retirement of the ledgendary centre back and now has. He is modelled in a similar style as his predecessor too. He's big, he's strong and despite being slower than other defenders, he is able to stamp his authority on attackers with some gritty tackles.

CB-Katija Burnisevič-#4-Captain

Another Burges Player, Burnisevič is a potential answer to Crajasović's clumsiness and is a quick, skilful and sure-footed player capable of taking the fight to those attempting to run through. She is a dedicated player, happy to chase any lost cause until the ball crosses the line. Her lack of physical strength may be her weakness however and she could be a potential target for more powerful strikers.

RB-Kevin Krychowiak-#13-Age 25-Matbirjke
Another promotion from the under 23s, Krychowiak is a typical modern full-back with his pace and attacking mindset. Having succeeded Dominik Illisevic as first-choice full-back last cycle, he will need to build on some shaky performances against the pace that the world has to offer if he is to retain his place on the teamsheet.

LM-Sophia Velezia-#16
A mazy winger with less raw pace, but the ability to turn any defender into a messy knot, Velezia is a constant challenge to keep quiet on her day and normally gets through at some point if she hits top form. Her mercurial nature is her biggest and arguably only weakness, but Mattijana will be well-placed if she can get it together.

CM-Marko Hojbjerg-#7

Now a mainstay of the team at the age of 28, Hojbjerg is a playmaker with good awareness and passing ability and is the perfect fit for Ljubanik's technical brand of football. Useful for connecting the more attacking players ahead of him, he is also integral in providing the start or the killer pass in a counter-attack. When no forward options are available, he's not afraid to hit one and occasionally finds the back of the net from improbable ranges.

CM-Katarina Jakupovic-#15
Former captain of Mattijana’s under-23 side, Jakupovic is a part of Vukoja’s turn to a more attractive style with Jago Adrianov, the midfield enforcer out and the instinctive passer promoted to a starting role. The 26 year-old Snezn player has impressed with both her technique and maturity in the early years of her career and is touted as a future Mattijanan captain after a successful run in the Under-23s.

RM-Jessika Struna-#9

A pacey winger who's preferred play is to make a run and then a cross, the 29 year old Struna is a dynamic and different part of the Mattijanan team. Tipped for a move to Petrovijanka or Burges, Struna chose to stay at Revinka, close to her family and in the town she loves.

CAM-Mattias Hoffman-#8-Age 27-Rapid Petrovijanka
Hoffman established himself as an impact player during the 79th cycle, scoring twice from the bench and making a substitute appearance in 15 of the 18 games. He offers a dynamic and direct approach when required and has cut open tired defences on a number of occasions. His consistency across longer periods has so far kept him out of the first team, but he remains a very useful and versatile player for Vukoja.

FW- Kara Lorenzič, age 25, Matbirjke

With Mathilde Lekarisa departing the Mattijanan setup in favour of the warmer climes of Saint Émelie, Matbirjken youngster Kara Lorenzič has been thrown into the starting line up for Mattijana. The pacey, direct forward was introduced on numerous occasions during World Cup qualifying and played reasonably well, offering a threat from the incisive through balls of the midfield and the testing low crosses of her wingers. Despite that, she is still young and the shoes of record scorer Lekarisa are big ones to fill.

The Bench:
GK-Matej Handanović-#1
The 32 year old Mattijanan number 1 plays under Matej Ljubanik at FK Petrovijanka and has been a solid, if unspectacular option between the sticks for most of his career. He has good handling skills and makes few mistakes, but could be replaced if he fails to make the spectacular stops expected of him. He may also face renewed competition from the younger and more dynamic Martin Vaskaric.

RB-Dominik Illisević-#5

Now a regular for FK Puljanka, Illisević is a punchy and pacey player with outstanding fitness and good crossing ability. His defensive technique is the biggest question mark, but if he can have a solid match at the back, he will undoubtedly be a danger coming forward.

CB-Ana Sevastova-#27-Age 23-FK Snezn

Young north-easterner Sevastova is the stereotypical centre-back from her region. Tall, strong and tough as ice, she has worked her way into the starting line-up at Snezn and with the retirement of Edvard Crajasovic, has now earned herself a call-up to the national side. Provided Illicic and Burnisevic remain fit and reasonable in form, she probably won't make too many appearances this cycle, but is certainly one for the future.

LM-Sofiane Bisrali-#6
From the less familiar setting of Shalkar in the South-East, Bisrali has the pace and skill that Vukoja is looking for in his wingers. Replacing the mercurial Sophia Velezia in the starting line-up, the 25 year old has a lot to live up to early in his career, but has the chance to do it on the biggest stage.

CAM-Juliana Kjofmann-#22-Age 27-Weststrand FK

Kjofmann, heralding from the windy climes of the Mattijanan west coast, has learned how to play with the ball on the deck and has made her strengths count at local team WestStrand. She might not pull off all her passes, but the ones she gets right will be enough to cause problems for any opposing defence.

FW-Andreas Weiss-#11

The 33 year old Burges Striker has been a fixture in the Mattijanan team for a while now and has matched his performances for the national side with consistent scoring form for FK Burges. He is a poacher with the ability to be in the right place at the right time for any pull-back into the box. Also a good header of the ball, Weiss will be an intimidating target for high crosses if the Mattijanan plan-B is needed.

ST-Daniella Alaba-#18-Age 29-Puljanka
It is difficult to tell where Alaba's strengths really lie as she is relatively quick, but not lightening fast and despite good strength, she is no match for more bulky defenders. Where she is effective is as a goal poacher, using positioning to find space to latch onto crosses and loose balls from fairly close range.

The Reserves:

GK-Martin Vaskaric-#19-Age 24-FK Antalja
LB-Lara Ljunavic-#20-Age 30-FK Revinka
CM-Jasmina Kovac-#24-Age 22-Ljubala FK
FW-Matej Jokic-#26-Age 21- FK SavaFluss

About Mattijana!

Mattijana is a large safe nation in Esportiva with a significant, but proportionate population. It spans a fairly large range of climates with the far north a colder area, the central region temperate, the south Mediteranean and the South-East semi-desert. Petrovijanka, the setting for this competition, is located almost exactly in the centre of the country at 214-232 metres above sea level. It has summer highs of around 28°C and lows of -5°C in the winter. There is a high level of sunshine for most of the year with precipitation mostly snowfall in the winter months.

Culturally, Mattijana can also be divided into six regions. The West of the country is largely Germanic whilst the centre North is a mix of Slavic and Germanic cultures, centred around Mattijana's second city, Burges. The North and East are more Scandinavian and speak Dansk, a language similar to Danish. The Centre (where Petrovijanka is situated) and the South are Slavic (similar to the Slovenian and Croatian cultures). There is an Arabic community in the South-East.

All Mattijanans speak the official language, Mattijanan. However, due to this not being spoken anywhere else in the World, English and German are well-spoken throughout the country whilst Arabic is taken on by the most intelligent students (in addition to English and German) as well as by those in the South-East.
There is no official religion in Mattijana due to this mix of cultures. Islam is popular in the South-East and parts of the South whilst some in the East follow the Mattijanan Orthodox church. Most people hold no religious belief, but believe in the universal philosophy of being kind, welcoming and helpful to others, known nationally as Jelenara. Even in religious communities, it is these principals that are most talked of with religious figures used to preach them.
Due to the mix/match nature of Mattijanan cultures and these philosophies, religious symbols are uncommon and religious tolerance is very high.

Attitudes to drink and sex are fairly liberal whilst there is good gender, sexual and racial equality. Social mobility is also good and the rich earn only twice as much as the poorest. Cannabis and similar recreational drugs are banned by law, with cannabis also forbidden for medical use.

The government follows mildly socialist policies meaning the tax rate is fairly high, but schools, hospitals and other public services are all well-funded and either free or reasonably-priced. Taxes on large businesses are higher than on small ones. The government building is the MattiStaja, which is situated on Staja square in the centre of Petrovijanka. All six regions have their own smaller congresses however. Politicians are generally appreciated and although public decisions are limited to elections and important political decisions where the main population is the most affected, most citizens feel well represented due to the numerous meeting and discussion opportunities with their local politician.
All parties follow a similar philosophy, but mainly disagree on where to fund the most. The MattijanaLeušaBuro is the current elected party and have an emphasis on public services, but other popular parties are the ViroBuro (who generally promote the needs of the environment) and the NašinalBuro (who promote funding for employment opportunities).

Stadia:

Due to a large land mass and numerous good quality stadia, the Mattijanan FA prefers to rotate games around a few different grounds. Having said that, the Stadijo Nasinal and the Stadijo Dinamov play host to the bulk of the matches due to the central position of Burges and Petrovijanka, their size and their reputation for providing excellent hosting services.

Stadijo Dinamov
Image
The Stadijo Dinamov in Petrovijanka is the second biggest football stadium in Mattijana and is one of the five stadiums that share the hosting honours for international matches. It is used on a weekly basis by FK Petrovijanka, Matej Ljubanik's old club, having built by them in 1940 and upgraded twice in 1972 and 2001. The capacity is 60,000.
The stadium is found to the north of the city's old town.

Stadijo Nasinal-Burges
Image
The Stadijo Nasinal is Mattijana's largest multi-purpose sports stadium with retractable grass and astroturf surfaces to cater for cater for Cricket, Hockey, Rugby and Football matches. There is a capacity of 90,000. The Stadium was built in 1985 and heavily upgraded just 4 years ago in preparation for the Cricket T20 World Cup. It is situated on the South bank of the Juliana river, just next to the water and just East of the NordesParke.

Stadijo Snezn:
Image
City: Snezn
Capacity: 37,000
Club residents: FK Snezn
Location: Western Snezn, not far from the old town.
Transport: 10-15 minutes walk from central Snezn, 10 minutes cycle. S3 tram or B3 Bus routes.

The Stadijo Snezn is situated in Mattijana's most northernmost city and is a more modern ground, with a generic rectangular shape and fairly modest capacity. This feature however makes it very accessible and easy to use, so a match here should be a reasonably comfortable experience, despite the cold. The stadium was built around 15 years ago, by owners FK Snezn.

Stadijo Katarina Zafarova:
Image
City: Revinka
Capacity: 30,000
Club residents: FK Revinka
Location: Coast, Eastern Revinka
Transport: S2 Tram route, 20 minute walk/10 minute cycle from city centre.

Another modern multi-purpose stadium, Revinka's regular evening thunderstorms mean that a roof has recently been added to the stadium to make for all-weather events. The stadium is already used for Hockey, rugby, football and handball and is named after Revinka and Mattijanan national Hockey captain Katarina Zafarova.

Garijo Ales Struna:
Image
City: Puljanka
Capacity: 40,000
Club residents: FK Puljanka
Location: Garijo Struna, north-west Puljanka
Transport: 10 minute walk/5 minute cycle from City centre. S11 Tram route.

An older, but very traditional stadium in a park just north-east of Puljanka's centre, the ground has progressed from humble beginnings as a playing field to one of the most recognisable stadiums in the country.
The ground has been upgraded in accordance with Mattijanan FA rules, but still retains much of its old history and is a beautiful place to watch a game. The most distinctive features are the arches spanning the length of the North and South stands.

WesterStadion:
Image
City: WestStrand
Capacity: 70,000
Club Residents: Weststrand FK
Location: Northern Weststrand
Transport: 10 minutes on foot from Weststrand city centre and main train station. B1 bus route from city centre.

One of the newest stadiums in Mattijana, the Westerstadion was built to reflect its resident's consolidation of a place in the Mattijanan premier league, which gave the club enough funds to move out of a small and battered old ground into a shining new 70,000 capacity creation on part of a former park in the north of Weststrand.
The ground is used almost exclusively for football, although there is talk of rugby also being allowed to take place at the ground. The stadium's modernity means it is accessible and comfortable.

Around Weststrand:
The most Germanic of Mattijana's cities, Weststrand is situated on the west coast of the country and is part of a more rugged section of coastline extending for hundreds of kilometres. As a result, the weather is generally windier than in most locations, with rain coming off the sea regularly.
The town itself has a more colonial feel to it, with imposing buildings on the seafront giving way to narrow, but buzzing backstreets containing a number of quirky independent shops. Watersports are also popular in the area. Cuisine is largely seafood-based, with mussels a very popular choice in the region.

Long Distance Travel:

International airports are found in Burges, Revinka and Petrovijanka, with some Esportivan flights also heading to Snezn. Shuttle underground trains from airports to corresponding city centres will be subsidised for the duration of the tournament. High speed rail links extend between all cities and airports, making travel to Puljanka and Snezn also relatively painless. There are express services between Petrovijanka and Burges, Burges and Snezn, and Revinka and Puljanka.
Those from reasonably local countries looking to travel to Revinka or Snezn may wish to consider travel by sea. Both cities have good ferry ports and road and underground links to the city centres they serve.

HAMPTON ISLAND GOLDEN BEARS
National Soccer Team

Soccer is not a popular sport in Hampton Island. It ranks somewhere down the list after baseball, motorsports, football (the one with an egg shaped ball), basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, and maybe even golf. Fine, it is ahead of golf. Hampton Island does not have a national professional soccer league. There are areas where smaller regional leagues take place, but nothing organized on a national level.

It was seen as a joke when the nation signed up for the tournament. They did try once, and had a laughable performance in the Baptism of Fire, and were terrible in World Cup qualifying. They didn’t return, and no one was surprised. Why then, did they bother signing up for this? The team was created from a list of the best soccer players from the regional leagues. Wait, no it wasn’t. Who even are these people?

No one really seems to know.

APOX WORLD CUP 84 QUALIFIERS SQUAD

Manager: Image Lunar Dusk, Aged: 47
Assistant Manager: Image Sverre Devold, Aged: 49
Style: -0.5

Spiel: So Apox head into World Cup 84 ranked 12th, comfortably a pot one team even with these smaller qualifying pots and enjoying their highest ever KPB ranking. Lunar Dusk has barely put a hoof wrong so far since taking over as manager of the side and this World Cup represents the final opportunity for this side to go out and win the damn trophy. James Palmisano, inspirational captain and one of Apox's best ever players is on 99 caps - he will become the sixth Apoxian player to reach a century in the upcoming friendly against Eura and this is his last shot at a world cup title. There is star power throughout this squad in all positions of the pitch, with Tregatta Spitfire maturing into a world class keeper, while Marcy Blake-Tatum continues to score goals at a rate of knots. With a change to 4-1-3-2, the biggest challenge to solve is at right midfield, with Imriel Townsend and Cassiopeia Quintero both being two of the best players in the squad. Add to that Archibald Koyaanisqatsi and Magdalen Demetrius and you have four players who ordinarily could comfortably start games. Expect a lot of rotation and to see talented Quintero get game time all over the pitch.

Formation
Image
Lunar Dusk has made the move away from the flowing formation pioneered by Luxulya St. Cleer towards a slightly more pragmatic 4-1-3-2, the "traditional" Apoxian formation as he looks to put his stamp on the team. This might cause some selection headaches over the course of qualifying but luckily this is the good type of headache - some positions are stacked with top players.

Manager: As of MD13, Enitan Maclaurin is the interim manager. He was previously a goalkeeper for Arlington City and Tropicorp FC (though not the national team), and is associated with the Arlington Collective and its mission to preserve history.

Prior to MD13, the manager was Tavish Willow. Despite facing pushback from his bosses for introducing the (1)-4-6-0 formation last cycle, he made it work, so it's back again. He is also, technically, the first man born in Zwangzug to hold this position, which is probably nice. (Though the length of his ponytail might belie that.)

Goalkeepers:
1. Joel McJakill (Keppal Cosmos) (m) (first tournament: WC80 Q)
12. Paige Daunten (North Sabrefell, Nephara) (f) (first tournament: WC82 Q)

This stadium post from BoF 71 is a quick overview of the various stadiums.

The parliamentary republic of Zwangzug, an antisocial social democracy now twelve years old (the decimal system is passe) has a long and--dare we say it--checkered history. The original national team competed through World Cup (qualifying campaign)s 33 through 42; a successor team participated in 64 through 69. After a hiatus caused by the country's sudden and devastating retreat into isolationism, a temporary recovery was made, and the national league (the 1./) which had emerged with the second iteration of the NT resumed play. Since World Cup 69, their involvement in the international world has been erratic; they won the 6th Eagle's Cup, and also participated in the seventh edition, where several of these players made their debut. They also participated in the WC80 cycle but were absent for 81, and re-resumed in 82, qualifying for WC83.

Colors: White with black stripes. Or black with white stripes. We go for the basics.

More than you probably wanted to know about Zwangzug can be found in our factbook, unless what you wanted to know was...relevant to modern happenings such as the football team/league, in which case probably you're out of luck until the biographer is motivated to go back to work. Don't hold your breath (but feel free to motivate).

If RPing first, please feel free to name goalscorers, injure, and distribute cards to my players at will! You can also godmod events, though I'd appreciate advance warning if you want to take narrative liberties that I couldn't just as easily do to your team (due to being, e.g., an MT, mostly-human country). Put another way, metaphorical "godmodding" is welcome if clever, but I'd avoid the literal sense.

Siovanija and Teusland National Football Team

Nation Name: United Republics of Siovanija and Teusland

Demonyms: Siovanijan, Teus
FA: Siovanija and Teusland Football Association (STFA)
Colours: Blue and gold

Other Major Cities: St. Jakob, Stelburg, Vlaikograd, Chernovets, Felsenkirchen
Highest Domestic League: Republikaliga
Nicknames: The Goldhorns
Style Modifier: +1

Coaching Staff

Manager: Gavin Hughes (APX)

After an AOCAF performance that received mixed reviews, Gavin Hughes returns to the Goldhorns’ touchline. A record of 4-0-6 didn’t really impress, although the Goldhorns performed admirably in the playoff stages, knocking out Vilita and Turori before going down to Valanora, losing out in a heartbreaking penalty shootout. Which Goldhorns side will we see in World Cup Qualifiers? The side that fought so hard in those matches, or the side that struggled in qualifiers. Hughes’ side now prepare for what will be a grueling 20-match Qualifying campaign, but things will be a little different than before. Young blood will be present in the squad more than ever, and tactical change is on the cards. Hughes has said he wanted to work on the Goldhorns’ issues at the back: no clean sheets since a 1-0 win over Anollasia in WC83 Qualifiers, 23 games ago. Thus, the Goldhorns will be less focused on attack and will be expected to contribute more in their own half as well. A formation change is on the cards as well: the Goldhorns are expected to line up in a 4-3-3 for this tournament. It’s expected that Todor Mihailov will sit at the back of a midfield trio involving himself, Thorsten Kramer and Viktor Dimitrov. While Dimitrov will play further forward, and is being described as a CAM in the selection, it’s expected that he and Kramer will function almost as two number tens in the same squad. The pressure is somewhat on for Hughes, however, and while not qualifying will not be seen as a failure, the Goldhorns will be expected to put in a strong challenge at minimum.

35-man Pool for World Cup Qualifiers

(Caps correct as of AOCAF 59. OOC note: ages have been adjusted for domestic players to better fit with domestic league cycles and to fall in line with regular IFCF competition in the future)

Goalkeepers

GK -- Ewald Heuser -- 21y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- Uncapped
GK -- Yanko Zhelyaskov -- 27y/o -- Ulsa Rovers (EUR) -- 34 caps, 4 clean sheets
GK -- Anatoli Sveteikov -- 28y/o -- Olympia Borograd -- 7 caps, 1 clean sheet
GK -- Bernd Falkenberg -- 26y/o -- FC St. Jakob -- Uncapped

After a poor stretch of form by Yanko Zhelyaskov in World Cup 83 Qualifiers and AOCAF 59, which saw him replaced by Viktor Venev, who retired from internationals after the AOCAF, it appears that Gavin Hughes will now turn to young Ewald Heuser, who had a brilliant season for Teussen in a title-winning campaign that saw him named the Republikaliga’s Best Keeper. Heuser is an excellent shot stopper who is also adept at building from the back. Somewhat of a sweeper keeper, he’s stylistically different from previous Goldhorn number ones. Zhelyaskov will, of course, have the opportunity to redeem himself, but it will be a challenge for him. Anatoli Sveteikov returns, he’s been solid on his 7 national team appearances so far but has never had the X-factor required to take the number 1 role for himself. Bernd Falkenberg, who was excellent for the Saints last season, will also get his first chance with the national team.

Left Back

LB -- Edgar Steimle -- 22y/o -- 1912 Stelburg -- 25 caps, 1 assist
LB -- Lyubomir Dimitrov -- 26y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd -- 48 caps, 1 assist
LB -- Axel Richter -- 20y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- Uncapped

This is one of the positions heavily affected by the youth revolution going on right now. Edgar Steimle has taken hold of the starting job here at left back, and has been great for the most part in his appearances at the AOCAF and World Cup Qualifiers. He’s still, of course, somewhat inexperienced and has occasionally been burned for it. He’s probably the fastest player on the team, and is explosive with the ball. Lyubomir Dimitrov has been the reliable back up option at left back his entire career with the national team, and that will continue, while Axel Richter, who was a breakout star for Teussen in the double-winning campaign, gets his first call-up to the senior national team.

Centre Back

CB -- Raphael Klopfer -- 29y/o -- 1912 Stelburg -- 106 caps, 5 goals, 4 assists
CB -- Karl-Heinz Jager -- 22y/o -- Raynor City United (VAL) -- 50 caps, 4 goals, 1 assist
CB -- Kasper Martz -- 22y/o -- TSV Marzig -- 8 caps
CB -- Niels Kronthaler -- 26y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- Uncapped
CB -- Taras Maksimov -- 18y/o -- Energija Chernovets -- Uncapped

This is a naturally strong area for the squad, and this position will be key in solving some of the defensive issues that have plagued the Goldhorns in recent years. The Klopfer-Jager partnership is very strong, and Klopfer has in fact been this country’s rock at the back across 106 caps. Karl-Heinz Jager proved himself last season, however, as an incredible leader and player in Teussen’s double-winning campaign, and he will be looked to by many as integral to any success this team may have. Kasper Martz gets the call again, the young Marzig defender has looked strong on his appearances, while Niels Kronthaler, Jager’s partner last season at Teussen, gets his call as well. Young Taras Maksimov was a key part of Energija’s squad last year, and he’ll be expected to carry that over to the national team.

Right Backs

RB -- Pierre-Louis Lotbiniere -- 21y/o -- 1912 Stelburg -- 20 caps, 3 assists
RB -- Luka Ambroz -- 22y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd -- 8 caps, 1 assist
RB -- Thorsten Helmke -- 27y/o -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879 -- 35 caps ,3 assists
RB -- Trude Spitz -- 24y/o -- Keenan Athletic (COS) -- Uncapped

This position could see a great deal of competition for the starting spot, now that Lutz Daschner has retired from internationals. Pierre-Louis Lotbiniere has been the heir apparent for some time now, and is the obvious frontrunner: he’s been excellent in his 20 appearances, and has great chemistry with club teammates Steimle and Klopfer. Let’s not underestimate Luka Ambroz, however, who despite not having a great year at Metropola last season has usually been strong. Thorsten Helmke is a reliable option as a defensive fullback, but probably won’t be the one to wear the number 2 shirt. Then there’s Trude Spitz, the STFA Women’s Player of the Year, who joined Cosumar’s Keenan Athletic last summer. It will be interesting for sure to see her stake her claim to the starting position, and she will have every opportunity to do so as the squad is expected to rotate heavily over the 20 games.

Centre Midfield

CM -- Thorsten Kramer -- 27y/o -- 1830 Cathair (AUD) -- 108 caps, 23 goals, 50 assists
CM -- Todor Mihailov -- 21y/o -- Yeaddin Owls (VIL) -- 17 caps, 2 goals, 3 assists
CM -- Dennis Brotzmann -- 32y/o -- Herzegovina City FC (BNJ) -- 44 caps, 1 goal, 2 assists
CM -- Heinrich Bahr -- 20y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- Uncapped

Tactical changes will likely see this position play a key role in the national team machine, and most of that burden will fall on Kramer and Mihailov. Thorsten Kramer has been the national team poster boy ever since his debut at the Baptism of Fire, and he’s never disappointed across 108 caps, the most capped player for this country. He’ll be playing a bit further forward this tournament, and perhaps the role change will add to his legend. Todor Mihailov broke out at the AOCAF tournament, and as a midfielder with the ability to dictate the tempo of the game, it will be exciting to see how he performs here as the base of our midfield. He’s a unique player for sure, and his ability to take over games will come in handy. Dennis Brotzmann, captain of Herzegovina City FC, will have a more defensive role this tournament when called upon, similar to in his earlier days with the national team, while Heinrich Bahr, who had an excellent season for Teussen, is a versatile player who will most likely be used to deputize for Kramer.

Left Wing

LW -- Mario Kogler -- 24y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 26 caps, 4 goals, 4 assists
LW -- Paulus Leistner -- 34y/o -- Letson Town (ETH) -- 58 caps, 5 goals, 12 assists
LW -- Lutz von Bergen -- 28y/o -- SW Stahlberg -- 26 caps, 3 goals, 6 assists
LW -- Lojze Kokalj -- 18y/o -- Olympia Borograd -- Uncapped

It seems like the time has come for Mario Kogler to truly make this spot his own. The Teussen winger was a key part of his club’s title challenge, and with usual main rival Ingolf Kruger having had a poor season for Marlesee 97 and missing out on this squad all together, Kogler gets his chance to secure his place. Behind him, Paulus Leistner is back for what might just be his final World Cup Qualification campaign: no word on whether he will retire at the end, but with the talent coming through and his age the decision might not be his to make. Expect him to give everything then in what could be his last chance. Lutz von Bergen has always been good when called upon, and his chemistry with Michael Ribbeck makes him an ever-solid selection. Lojze Kokalj, the highly-rated Olympia youth product, is also named here. Coming off a season on loan at Kelssek’s Kawarthas DFA, it’ll be a first real chance at the senior team for the man of whom so much is expected.

Centre Attacking Midfield

CAM -- Viktor Dimitrov -- 28y/o -- Energija Chernovets -- 95 caps, 6 goals, 55 assists
CAM -- Kurt Witzel -- 21y/o -- TSV Marzig -- 12 caps, 3 goals, 3 assists
CAM -- Julian Werner -- 18y/o -- FC Rotmunde 1932 -- Uncapped

The expectations for this position will be to play somewhat as a number 10, but also to have responsibilities further back as well, and it appears Gavin Hughes has chosen Viktor Dimitrov as his main man for this approach. Dimitrov is probably the most creative player in the Republikaliga, and his 55 national team assists say enough about the value he’s added to this team. We are a better team when he is on the park for sure. Kurt Witzel, behind him, had trouble breaking into the squad in recent years, but the young Marzig midfielder plays this exact role for his club and will likely excel under the new system. Julian Werner plays a bit deeper for Rotmunde, but has shown the ability to get further forward and will get his first senior squad chance here at this tournament.

Right Wing

RW -- Ivo Romanov -- 32y/o -- Rozelle (BRE) -- 103 caps, 39 goals, 26 assists
RW -- Lukas Tauscher -- 20y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 12 caps, 3 assists
RW -- Leo Heiden -- 24y/o -- FC St. Jakob -- 14 caps, 2 assists
RW -- Gerold Tegeler -- 23y/o -- VfB Marlesee -- Uncapped

This has traditionally been the most secure position in the Goldhorns’ lineup: Ivo Romanov is the starting man, and that is that. But could that finally change at this tournament? Romanov is, obviously, still a brilliant player who has been incredible for his country across 103 caps. But Lukas Tauscher was a dominant force for FC Teussen Stelburg in the Republikaliga last season, and is proving to be at least every bit as good as his compatriot. Expect Tauscher to get a real chance here - most of his 12 caps to date being substitute appearances, and expect him to have the ability to run with it if he wants. Leo Heiden has usually been the 2nd string here, but he moves to 3rd string with Tauscher’s ascendency, while Gerold Tegeler was vital in pushing VfB Marlesee to stay up in the Republikaliga last year, and likely earned himself a move to a bigger Republikaliga club in doing it: he’ll be one to keep an eye on, here, with everything to prove should he get a chance.

Centre Forward

CF -- Michael Ribbeck -- 22y/o -- SW Stahlberg -- 65 caps, 49 goals, 2 assists
CF -- Ludwig Reichwein -- 26y/o -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 25 caps, 10 goals
CF -- Krasimir Kynev -- 25y/o -- Olympia Borograd -- 70 caps, 31 goals
CF -- Stanimir Ilev -- 25y/o -- FK Metropola Borograd -- Uncapped
CF -- Johannes Mandl -- 27y/o -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879 -- Uncapped

This is maybe the deepest position in the national pool, as there are so many options for Gavin Hughes to pick from up top. That ‘problem’ will only grow in coming years as highly-touted youths like Erik Moselle and Denis Dezelac force their way into the team. But for now, it’s the golden boy Michael Ribbeck leading the line. He’s won the Republikaliga Golden Boot 3 times in a row now, and is one goal shy of being the first Goldhorn ever to score 50 goals for his country. It’s a very impressive record, especially on 65 caps, and Ribbeck can be proud of it. He is an excellent finisher, and reads the play well. Ludwig Reichwein was dominant up top for Teussen in the double-winning campaign, and he’s proved himself to be a big-game player: 3 President’s Cup Finals, 3 wins, and 6 goals across those matches. He also helped fire Teussen into the Dwile Invitational Tournament group stage with a free kick goal to equalize away to Istria City of Banija. Krasimir Kynev has always been reliable on 70 caps, 31 international goals to his name, while a couple of new boys will get debuts here: Stanimir Ilev and Johannes Mandl. Ilev had 24 for Metropola last year, and was that club’s best player, while Mandl has been consistent for Felsenkirchen throughout his career, the poacher hovering around 25 goals a year. Both will get their first chances in a national team shirt here, and both will want to make the most of it.

Group and Schedule

The Goldhorns find themselves in Group 5 for World Cup Qualifiers, which could prove to be a tricky group. Siovanija and Teusland will be the 3rd seed in the group. The Group 5 teams are:

Monso (UR)
Nephara (16)
Squornshelous (UR)
Aquitlita (308)
The Macabees (25)
Siovanija & Teusland (51)
Euran Oceania Territories (82)
Anthor (100)
Lochario (73)
Poafmersia (175)
Bolgano (140)

The only team the Goldhorns have any history with are the Euran Oceania Territories, who we have faced in World Cup 82 Qualifiers and AOCAF 58. The Expats won both matches in WC82, 3-2 the score in each, but the Goldhorns had the last laugh at the AOCAF with a 2-1 win. The Goldhorns faced the Squornshelan Remnant States last World Cup, but have not faced Squornshelous, while Anthor will be a familiar face for hockey fans, as the country hosted the 36th World Cup of Hockey, which we participated in. Poafmersia were Baptism of Fire semi-finalists this edition, and finished 3rd in the tournament. The top two seeds in the group, The Macabees and Nephara, are both top 25 teams in the world and will be dangerous opponents for the Goldhorns. Most fans will be familiar with Nephara, as 8 players from the country play in the Republikaliga. None of them, however, are on that country’s roster. The one-time World Cup winning Cormorants will, as the group’s number 1 seed, clearly be the toughest opponent for our Goldhorns.

The World Cup Qualifiers will take place over a total of 22 matchdays, with 20 matches per team. With so many matches to be played, the STFA has decided again to spread them out across the country, as was done in WC83 and AOCAF 59 matches. One thing the STFA has decided to do is use the Stahlarbeiter-Union Arena in Stahlberg for more high-profile matches: it is hoped that the higher altitude in Stahlberg, up in the mountains, might give the Goldhorns a slight advantage, as the Republikaliga players in the squad are more used to playing at the stadium. Here is the full schedule for World Cup Qualifiers!

Busoga Islands National Team

Information
Country code: BUS
Denonym: Busogans/Busoga Islanders/Islanders(Busoga Islanders is the formal term; many Banijans call them Busogans, while locals refer to themselves simply as Islanders, which will be the terminology used by the journalists of this country)
Association: Busoga Islander Soccer Association(BISA)
Manager: Starfire (Pegasus - female), 49 years old, native of the Equestrian States. Starfire is a manager who excels at getting the most out of whatever she's given, regularly keeping the Ponyville Galaxy from relegation with a keen eye for tactics and seemingly boundless optimism that keeps spirits up in the locker room. Starfire was Moon Dust's long-time student as an assistant coach at Ponyville United and pundits tend to think more highly of the pegasus than her club's place in the table might suggest. She has been largely popular so far as the Islander manager, and with her World Cup 83 Qualifying success, the nation's only manager will be extended through the World Cup 84 cycle.
Senior Assistant Manager: Trevor Yoenman(South Detroit). 41 years old. He has plenty of experience in management, having been head coach at the Islamic University of Busoga for the past 5 years. Of course, with the Islamic University having been ejected from the Banijan Collegiate Sports Group, alongside other Busoga Islands universities, the country's largest university regularly dominates sporting competitions within the country. After national title after national title, he wanted a new challenge, and was hired as the Senior Assistant manager. He is known as a player's coach, and is known for his skill relating to individual plaeyrs.
Captain: Marie Sonko
Alternate Captain: Berihu Abeselome.
Home Kits: Red
Away Kits: Black
Alternate: White

Select Player Biographies

1. CB Marie Sonko

The heart and soul of this team, the man who has long been a legendary footballer in this country, Delbin Kasekende, the goalkeeper, retired after the previous Cup of Harmony. He played for local club Dukuma SC for many years, and then changed to Herzegovina City FC, where he established almost a vice grip on the BSL Golden Glove award, as well as winning a host of league titles under Brian Emerson and being one of few men to be captain for both his club and his country. Not an easy feat, and he was the country’s inaugaural captain- even after having played in a World Cup for another side.

Kasekende, however, is now well into his 40s, and retired from national team duties when the Busoga Islands were eliminated by Saltstead at the Cup of Harmony. However, while sad for him, the show must go on. The armband was passed to an obvious contender- Marie Sonko, the center back who plys her trade in the Equestrian States. The Northern Moravica grad has long played for Everfree Forest HC in the Equestrian States, manning the center back position for the club. Denied an opportunity to play in her home country while Banija’s sports gender segregation laws were on the books, she has stayed loyal to the club that has given her the opportunity to play in the top flight, declining an opportunity to go to Lakiska SC and stick it out at Everfree Forest.

Her captaincy has certainly been successful. During World Cup 83 Qualifying, the Busoga Islands rode to unforeseen heights, where they were able to, quite shockingly, qualify for the playoffs, and do well enough in the first two games to control their own destiny heading into the last playoff game, against Chromatika. The team has earned a reputation for poor performances in tournament football- doing well in World Cup 83 Qualifying, but repeated poor performances in the Cup of Harmony & the AOCAFs. Sonko will look to lead this team over the hump in what is surely her last ever World Cup Qualification campaign.

2. CB Mohan Thakshak

The phrase 'defense wins championships' is something that you hear in a lot of sports, from the gridiron to the hardwood. And that is true in this sport as well. A strong defense can take even a less talented, lesser resourced team to the promised land of a spot in the World Cup Finals. This team, while not exactly Ko-oren in the level of defense, is going to be reliant on its defense. After a poor showing at AOCAF LIX, Starfire made a bunch of changes to the squad, bringing in new faces, and promoting veterans from the bench to the starting XI.

Mohan Thakshak is part of that latter group. Marie Sonko is the only member of the starting back four who is returning, and they are going to have to be reliant on talent in the back. Enter Mohan Thakshak. The veteran center back has been part of the national team setup for a long time, but always as a backup. Thakshak has traditionally been behind Filije Kolley in the pecking order, and it makes sense, as Kolley plays fro the bigger club at the same position in the same league. But of course, Kolley, alongside the entire Istria City FC defense at his club, has struggled mightily in this past club season. With Thakshak leading his own club to have one of the league's best defenses, Starfire decided to make the switch. Kolley won't even be part of the Final 23 for this World Cup cycle.

Thakshak has national team experience, which is important. He has a relationship and some sort of synergy with Marie Sonko. But look at the rest of the back line. Two youngsters on the outside, making their debuts for the national team in this World Cup Qualification campaign. So he is going to have to help lead this defense, alongside Marie Sonko, if they want to have a chance. They don't have the firepower to push 50+ goals throughout the 22 games of World Cup Qualification. But the Busoga Islands are a dark horse because they play well together, because they are organized, because they play with synergy. IT is a tough group- and if Thakshak can step in and play well, the Busoga Islands will have a chance to stun the world. But if not, then Thakshak will surely retire.

3. ST Sarika Birla

This young striker is just 20 years old. She is one of a number of women to make an impact on this national team, though of course, being a part of the Banijan setup, that country's lack of opportunity for women in sport has a knock-on effect to the Busoga Islands as well. She has gone down the traditional path. She played at the Islander Regional Academy, then played for Suwawa FC this past season in the Northwestern League, in the second tier of Banija's pyramid. Birla sat with the team throughout World Cup 83 Qualifying, and during AOCAF LIX, but did not see much action, mostly learning off the bench.

With Babaja's retirement, she has stepped into the role of #9 for the national team. Like we said, we don't expect this team to put up 50+ goals throughout qualifying. But the goals will need to come from somewhere, and she will need to be an important source of goalscoring. She is from a small village- from Kharan, on the South Island. This is towards the center of the island, and is a village of just 2,000 people. How did she come out of this village with an opportunity to play for the national team? Her own domination of opponents from a young age. She's always had the talent, but finding her took some work. It was happenstance that allowed her to be seen by the Islander Regional Academy- she ended up subsituting for a boys team at a youth tournament in Lakiska at age 13, and she got noticed by the Islander Regional Academy. When she was old enough , they invited her.

She has been defying the odds her whole life. She is just 5'5. She won't win any headers. She won't be powering through people. But she has both great sprint speed, and quickness. She has smarts, and knows how to move without the ball. She has the potential to be all that for the Busoga Islands- and at age 20, she will be starting a World Cup Qualifier for her country. Not a bad day, right?
Stadia

Lakiska City Field
Image

The stadium is located in the nation's capitol, and the largest city on the South Island. It has a capacity of 31,000, and is host to Lakiska Sporting Club, the only team from the Busoga Islands in the Banijan Soccer League.

Orange Field
Image

The stadium is located in the country's largest city, Dukuma, and is on the North Island. it has a capacity of 17,000, and it is host to Dukuma Sporting Club, who competes in the Banijan Northwestern League, one of four regional leagues in the second tier of the Banijan/Busogan pyramid, and who are the reigning champions of the RBSA Cup.

Dukuma Oval
Image
Capacity of 63,000, located in Dukuma, North Island

This is primarily a cricket stadium. It is most famous for being the host of the World Twenty20 X Final. However, it will be converted for use for football during World Cup Qualifying, to host exactly one game, due to its significantly superior capacity in comparison to any other stadium on the North Island. It will host the Mriin match due to both their status as the Pot 1 team in the group, and their status within Atlantian Oceania, with BISA officials believing that this is one of the biggest draws of qualifying.

Lakiska City Cricket Park
Image
Capacity of 54,000, located in Lakiska, South Island

This park is also primarily a cricket ground. While they hosted one World Cup Qualifier last time around, against the two-time defending world cup champions Vilita, it is of course most famous for hosting games at the World Twenty20 X Championships, including one semifinal and the bronze medal match. Thanks to its superior capacity, it will be used for the game in the 2nd half of qualifying that BISA officials believe will have the biggest demand for tickets- Chromatika, due to the history(World Cup 83 Playoff), their rank(Pot 3), and their proximity within Atlantian Oceania. They will look to create a unique atmosphere for that night.

THE HOLY EMPIRE WC 84 SQUAD

While the nation took a long break from WCs 8 through 24, the Holy Empire is proud to be the only active nation to have participated in WC 1.

Though it pretends not to be, the nation is equally proud to have won 4 World Cup titles

Read on, peons and serfs; in this World Cup the Holy Empire shall be represented by the Knights of the Oblong Table, a noble order of chivalry.

They shall ride onto yonder pitch on their mighty cataphract horses while wearing full armour. They shall deign to dismount from their horses before meeting your forces in battle fair in this newfangled game of 'football'.

Though at a disadvantage from wearing armour, they shall still contest the match in a spirit of noble chivalry.

OOC: The Knights of the Oblong Table look really, really intimidating riding onto the pitch on horseback in full armour; but in fact they're a cross between Byzantine cataphract knights and Monty Python Arthurian knights; I'm going to mainly play them for laughs - though opponents can certainly play up the intimidating side. Names are based on a mix of Orthodox saints, real Arthurian knights of the Round Table (Sir Anguish was originally an Irish king), and one needed for later Python-based plagiarism comedy impact.

The Squad

Goal:
Sir Joasaph the Wise

Defence:
Sir Hermogenes the Not Quite as Wise as Sir Joasaph
Sir Anguish of Anguish
Sir Dodinas le Savage

Midfield:
Sir Bobbin the Brave
Sir Mirax the Noble
Sir Barsanuphius the Bold [CAP]
Sir Pellinore of the Beast Glatisant
Sir Akepsimas the Merry

Forwards:
Sir Pellehan Of The Dolorous Stroke
Sir Therapon the Chaste

Substitutes:
Sir Only Appearing On the Bench [g]
Sir Morholt the Morholt[d]
Sir Alexander the Criminally Underused [m]
Sir Synetus the Pedantic [m]
Sir Esclabor the Exotic [f]

Coaches:

The team coach remains World Cup Hall of Fame legend Juan Tzimisces

The assistant coach remains Starblaydi World Cup Hall of Fame legend Simeone Di Bradini

Style Modifiers / formation

Frosty football is attacking football. The Holy Empire always plays a 3-5-2 formation using overlapping wingers that turns into 3-3-4 on the counterattack.

[OOC'ly, for the purposes of scorination, the team uses the maximum attacking style modifier permitted by each cup's hosts.]

Kit
The team will wear famous Imperial Gold and Red, as worn by the Holy Empire since WC1...

Except that this time they'll wear it as cataphract armour!

(OOC: helpfully, most online modern replicas of 10th-11th century Byzantine cataphract armour are in gold and red. I wish I could claim this was intentional on my part. It's not; it's luck. Here's one of someone pretending to be the RL emperor John I Tzimisces, of all people...)

Image

(home top, away bottom)
Image
Image

OOC'ly, the kits were designed by Red Blackiland, and the crest by Audioslavia - and I'm entirely grateful; I'm very happy for RB and Audio to take OOC credit. IC'ly, HEFA deny the Mundies had anything to do with it.

Stadium
The Holy Empire plays its home matches in the bejewelled, platinum-domed, and purple stone-walled Imperial Hippodrome, the oldest World Cup venue still in use, and one of the most famous - and impressive - stadiums in the multiverse.

RP instructions:
Have fun and use your imagination - but don't kill anyone, and don't try and launch attacks on the Dreamed Realm; largely because you can't.

Jousting is absolutely fine, though; as are creative ways of trying to get Sir Only Appearing On the Bench into the game.

Some basic Dreamed Realm RP rules:
Remember that the Dreamed Realm lies entirely outside of Ordinary Reality, and is utterly impervious to harm from what we charmingly call 'mundies'.

Some points to remember about travel to, and playing in, the Dreamed Realm:

1) We control the nature of reality in the Dreamed Realm; reality and time are malleable within the Realm. This isn't used to cheat - all normal rules of football are strenuously followed - but it does have two major side effects:
A) Any injuries to either team in Imperial home matches are immediately healed.
B) No violent or riotous behaviour by visiting fans will be tolerated, unless permission is received in advance (please file applications for violent rioting in triplicate). Any such behaviour undertaken without appropriate permission will find those responsible immediately transported back to Ordinary Reality.

2) Direct travel from ordinary physical reality to the Dreamed Realm is impossible. Some 72 hours before your away qualifier in the Empire, a team of Archregimancy [Eastern Orthodox Christian] monks will arrive in your home stadium and construct a portal to the Dreamed Realm. You may then use this to travel to the Empire at your convenience.

South Covello National Team Roster

Nickname: Rebels
Style modifier: -5

Head Coach: Richard Hawkins
Assistant Head Coaches: Vinnie LaGuche and Joey Egermeister

After World Cup 79 and the South Covellan Revolution, the feisty Rebels elected to turn things over to the next generation. Richard Hawkins, previously the star goalkeeper, was named head coach, but the entire team was new. Vinnie LaGuche returned as well, as an assistant coach, and was joined by Joey Egermeister, a proud supporter of the Revolution and lifelong soccer fan who previously served as Acting President of the South Covello Soccer Federation after the Gregists were overthrown.

Hawkins and his staff hand-picked the new stars, and to his pleasant surprise he was able to find a young goalie who was almost athletic as he was, in Matthew Tyler. Tyler was just 19 years old and already almost as good as Hawkins was. In time, he would probably even surpass him. The rest of the team filled in nicely as well, defensively minded as always, and, as many of them had grown up idolizing the strong defensive wall, first for the Foot Slaves and then the Rebels, this led many of them to become defenders as well. So the good old Rebel Wall was still there, great and strong as ever. The team wouldn’t be letting in many goals this cycle, it sure seemed.

The Rebels would be playing a defensive 4-5-1 this cycle, with the sole striker being the young, awesomely named star Coconut Charles. The Coconut name, of course, was a direct insult to the Gregists, Lord Almighty Gregory and the others who forbid the mere mention of the work. It was sure to be a spectacular future.

However, the future wasn't all it was cracked up to be. South Covello fell way too early, in the Round of 16 of World Cup 80. However, they rebounded in World Cup 81, making the final before losing to Eura, and will look to finally hoist that elusive trophy this tournament. World Cup 82 and World Cup 83 saw them not advance far either, but now World Cup 84 looks to be better hopefully. Their roster is unchanged except that young midfielder phenom Lonzo Gordon-McHayward-Greensward-Squidward replaces Steven Danckweed. Best known by his last four initials, GMGS is just 17 years old and is great at creating opportunities for the Rebels. He figures to get a ton of assists to set up Coconut Charles and Pillory Cantwell. He will also score a few goals, particularly from set pieces, which he takes with wonder. And he's only 17 so he's just going to get better.

Lineup:

GK: Matthew Tyler (Age 23) CAPTAIN
LB: Pat Hauer (Age 29)
CB: Cal Yachtwood (Age 24)
CB: Dmitri Woodward (Age 29)
RB: Paul Paul (Age 27)

Revolution Stadium, Riverview

Revolution Stadium opened to start World Cup 80 and usher in a new generation of South Covellan soccer. The stadium is located on the banks of the Goldenrod River, and fans will be able to arrive at the stadium by boat should they wish. As the river is navigable in the portions that run through San Jose Guayabal as well, this opens up the possibility that some visitng fans from that nation could visit if the two nations face each other. However, as San Jose Guayabal appears to have withdrawn from international competition for the time being, that seems unlikely for now.

As mentioned above, the stadium is far more intimate than the old one, seating a relatively small 42,000 fans, with ample space for supporters as well as a small number of visiting fans. The views from the stadium are immaculate, looking out over the Goldenrod Valley with the river in view as well. For games played in the fall, it will just be an amazing sight to behold, even ignoring what is going on with the game.

The Allied States of Polkopia
National Football Team

The Allied States of Polkopia, or Polkopia, is set to return to the World Cup after having failed to qualify for the previous World Cup in Equestria and Banija. Although association football remains the most popular sport in the nation, Polkopia's international prestige has suffered under the recent cycle, as prior to the start of the qualifiers, Polkopia looked as if though it had the potential to become a true contender in qualifiers, or even the competition itself if things went according to plan. Unfortunately for the Polkopian side, things weren't quite meant to be, as the squad crashed out of their qualifying group in an embarrassing fifth place out of seven nations in their group. Although it wasn't quite what Polkopian head coach, Vitali Zorić, had in mind, it was to be expected from an analyst's perspective, as the squad had been pulled entirely from the U-21 team. With a team as inexperienced as this, and having no chemistry on the field with one another apart from the domestic league, one could have fully expected this Polkopian side to finish qualifiers winless and at the very bottom of their group. Despite initial criticism, Zorić has continuously backed his decision and envisions a more experienced Polkopian side, groomed to play alongside one another throughout the players' entire careers. But this vision was still to come, and only time will tell if this vision was ever meant to come true. Four years later, this Polkopian side had undergone years and years of vigorous training, coaching, and conditioning in order to get to the level that they're at now, and now is the time to prove it on the multiverse stage. All eyes will be on this squad from home, and every Polkopian will be cheering on their team in Cassadaigua and Baker Park.

RP Permissions
I give my opponent permission to:
  • Choose my scorers
  • Choose my scoring events/godmod any scoring events
  • RP injuries to my players (No more than one injury per game, with a maximum of 3 injuries for the entire tournament)
  • Hand out red/yellow cards to Polkopian players (Within reason - please try to be realistic about any fouls that are given to my players.)
  • Godmod other events

(Anything not included on this list should be discussed via TG or Discord message before it is RP'd)

Home/Away Kits

Image
These kits were made courtesy of Red Blackiland

The Polkopian kits that are to be used for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches are made by Meski Sports who are no longer actively supplying kits, however head coach Vitali Zorić expressed his desire to have his team wear the same kits used by the Polkopian team during the 74th World Cup in San José Guayabal and Valladares, as well as the most recent World Cup. Tradition is well-engrained in Polkopian culture and Zorić doesn't shy away from it.

ROYAL ZIWANA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION PRESENTS:

The Ziwani Football National Team to the World Cup 84 Qualifiers.

Image

World Cup 84 Qualifiers will be the second international competition the Akambuku have taken part in. Ziwana had their international debut in the Baptism of Fire 71, a competition for new nations on the international scene that prepares them for the highly competitive World Cup which has a variety of species from equestrian life forms to extraterrestrial life forms. This can prove challenging for nations like Ziwana who have human life forms which are 3 dimensional creatures that perceive reality in 2 dimensions. Humans are not as fast or strong as extraterrestrial or equestrian life forms, so if Ziwana is to perform well they must work thrice as hard. The Ziwani do have hope though as they performed exceptionally well in the Baptism of Fire and got into the Quarter Finals were they lost to Poafmersia in a hard fought match. Ziwana is no stranger to punching above their weight as shown in their performance in the Melayu Archipelago Cup were they got to the semi-finals beating the previous champions of the cup on the way. Ziwana has been successful due to their 'umodzi, umodzi' style of football. The 'umodzi, umodzi' is a quick passing counterattacking style of football that has not only got them to two final stages of tournaments but also gained them fans in their region and on the international scene. Even if Ziwana doesn't qualify for the World Cup final stage their style of football is sure to entertain international football fans.

Sajnuran National Football Team

Stadiums

National Stadium

The National Stadium is the largest stadium in Sajnur, with a capacity of 102,000 people. Located in the capital city of Javoser, home to more than 12.5 million people, it is the primary arena for big sporting events in the country, hosting a semi-final and most finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup, several finals of the Tarvolan League, tarvolan being a code of football indigenous to Sajnur and traditionally Sajnur’s biggest sport, and three qualifiers for the 82nd World Cup. It has also hosted the biggest of Sajnur’s concerts and the inaugurations of two Presidents.

Built in 1952 and renovated in 2015, the stadium has a retractable roof, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and affordable food and drink options to provide a comfortable experience for all fans while the stadium has been designed to allow fans to produce a raucous atmosphere befitting of large sporting events. The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, and has thousands of parking spaces for those who choose to arrive in their own vehicles.

Niurka Stadium

Home of FK Khadur, arguably Sajnur’s biggest football club, Niurka Stadium is located in the Khadur area of Ciarkhan, a bustling metropolis of 4.6 million people that serves as Laghia’s state capital. Laghia was a territory acquired by Sajnur in a war stretching from 1982 to 1996, and is the Laghian people popularised football in Sajnur. As a result, the province has eight of Sajnur’s 32 professional football clubs despite having only 1/8 of the country’s population, and Niurka Stadium hosts the other semi-final and some finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup.

The stadium, built in 2006, was named after Nicolae Niurka, who was a Laghian partisan that served as a general against Laghia’s pre-1982 rulers and was killed in combat in 1995, aged just 46. With a capacity of 73,000, it is the largest stadium used by a team in the Sajnuran Premier League. Like the National Stadium, it has a retractable roof, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of affordable food and drink options, with many food options being traditional to Laghia. The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, but parking space may be limited on particularly busy days.

Queen Haqla Stadium

Queen Haqla Stadium is a 60,000 seat stadium near the centre of Roskjepa, the capital of Delta state and, with 6.7 million people, the second largest in Sajnur. Home to Rivers FC, the stadium is a regular venue for intimidating displays from Rivers fans, with flares, aggressive chanting, and large banners being a common sight, especially in derbies between Rivers and cross-town rivals Stormers FC.

The stadium was built in 1960 and renovated in 2016, and has all the amenities of the National and Niurka stadiums, while being a prominent sight on the Jagaroi River. As such, along with bus and train, the stadium is also accessible by the Jagaroi River’s ferry. However, like in Ciarkhan, access by car may be difficult. Queen Haqla, for whom the stadium is named, reigned over Sajnur from 681 to her death in 727.

Siyaka Island Stadium

Siyaka Island Stadium is the largest stadium in the Asulian states, with 66,000 people able to fit within its confines. Located in the outskirts of Tawqush, a city of about 5.4 million serving as the capital of Archipelago state, the stadium is the home of FC Mazigh, the foremost football club in the Asulian states. Fans on Siyaka Island often bring instruments to matches, ranging from the arghul to large drums to even accordions, posing both as support to those they like and a distraction for those who they wish to lose.

The stadium is the newest of the four national stadiums, being built in 2017 on what was the Majar port before it was bombed by the Sajnuran navy during a war that stretched from 1990-2003. The stadium is easily accessible by both car and public transport, and with the New Majar port being built as part of the stadium development, coastal and island hopping ferries can also stop right outside the stadium.

Full Roster

Eliseo Marinon has announced an initial 32 player player pool for Training Camp 1. While the player pool is mostly unchanged from World Cup 83, notable changes include the absence of 37 year old veteran Alan Gharici, who announced his retirement from international football, and Alexis Sjoring, who is playing for Aqtan Beaches in the Sajnur Second League. The four new players are Ella Ciuru, Polna Viskorov, Tassa Inatje, and Metiria Ocango. This roster is subject to change for future training camps.

Briagntii World Cup 84 Squad(s)

Image

RP Permissions: My opponent may choose my goal scorers, hand out cards and injuries. Please pick which Brigantii side you wish to play against from the options available. Godmod events are fine for the surreal versions of Brigantii but I'd prefer no Godmod events for Brigantii 5214 if it's all the same.

The "event" caused a fracture in time, shattering Brigantii into a myriad of possibilities and eventualities. Since World Cup 78 the Stags had not featured during qualifying and had slid to the not so illustrious position of unranked. The event in all cases differed, as did the result. The teams below competed during qualifying for World Cup 83, but remain the same for World Cup 84 some 4 years later? How? I dunno. Maybe time hasn't moved on, maybe we're stuck in an endless loop of World Cup qualifying? Maybe the players haven't aged a day in four years or, maybe, the great creator God didn't have time to create new rosters...

Brigantii 7741: The All Powerful Matriarchy of Brigantii

Following Cup of Harmony 70 a movement rumbled through Brigantii, historically the nation had been male dominated, with the top positions held by men, the wealthiest people in Brigantii were men, law makers and law breakers, men. Athletes, actors, politicians and CEOs were at the top of the hierarchy, but not any more. Following the election of Jordana Lichaj to Prime Minister a sweeping change took place and women rose to power….. And kept rising. Equality was no longer the goal, but total and utter control.

Brigantii 7741
The women of Brigantii 7741 are all named after ancient goddesses, or great women from mythology to further empower them. The only name permitted for men in Brigantii is Bob.

Coach: Athena Nixon

Goalkeeper: Bastet Jackson
Right Back: Sif Williams
Centre Back: Venus Murphy
Centre Back: Minerva Gruffud
Left Back: Lakshmi Walker
Right Wing: Xochiquetzal Smith
Centre Mid: Hathor Farmer
Centre Mid: Amaterasu Jones
Left Wing: Artemis Brown
Striker: Brighid O'Toole
Striker: Cerridwen Evans

The coach operates a standard 4-4-2 and has drilled her team to press and harry the opposition, never letting them settle on the ball. Star player Cerridwen Evans has pace to burn and is a constant goal threat - as is Minerva, the six foot defender who joins the fray for set pieces. No longer the Stags, the Brigantii national team’s nickname is now The Mantises and they play their home games at the 95,000 seater Sapphire Stadium.

Image

Brigantii 8888: The Automaton Nation of Brigantii

Following Cup of Harmony 70 Brigantii pushed forward with their research in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence. It started with replacing supermarket staff and self driving vehicles.. And became nightmarish as Asimov's Laws of Robotics went out of the window. Brigantii is now 100% automated.. Including the football team.

Goalkeeper: 001
Right Back: 002
Centre Back: 003
Centre Back: 004
Left Back: 005
Right Wing: 006
Centre Mid: 007
Centre Mid: 008
Left Wing: 009
Striker: 010
Striker: 011

The AI side play a generic 4-4-2. All the players know their position and do not deviate, there is no coach as they have been pre-programmed to know their role and do not require managing.Traveling fans are permitted but may not want to visit Brigantii in its current state - a totalitarian robotic dictatorship with few humans left, those that are left now live underground. If you do travel to Brigantii try not to upset the ruling class who will not hesitate to eliminate anybody who does not adhere to their laws.

Image

Brigantii 4313: The Cursed Kingdom of Brigantii

Following Cup of Harmony 70 a strange spell befell the nation. In a time of science and secularism it's hard to believe in magic but illusionist Colin Copperstone was adamant it was real. All the books claimed magic was just hocus pocus and voodoo had been debunked, except one. The Big Black Book of Practical Magic. Reading aloud the incantation the illusionist transformed the people of Brigantii into soft, fuzzy, puppet like creatures.

Coach: Sam Eagle

Goalkeeper: Cookie Monster
Right Back: Rizzo
Centre Back: Count von Count
Centre Back: Sweetums
Left Back: Gonzo
Right Wing: Bunsen Honeydew
Centre Mid: Red Fraggle
Centre Mid: Rowlf
Left Wing: Grover
Striker: Pepe
Striker: Floyd

Sam Eagle is a strict tactician and has his team organised as best he can. They're a little wacky and struggle to stay focused. Watch out for Pepe, he's a firecracker. Brigantii in its current state is disorganized, chaotic but super friendly. You can learn your ABC's, sing about your feelings and fall in love with an overbearing pig. There's no crime, no hardship, nothing negative other than the fact the people are all puppets..

Image

Brigantii 1010: The Ravaged Lands of Brigantii

Following Cup of Harmony 70 Brigantii was beset by adverse weather and, what some had termed "acts of God". Huge storms, tidal waves, earthquakes, hurricanes, the country was torn to shreds by a clusterf*ck of nature. The team contains a number of hardened survivors from what remains of the country.

Coach: Delroy Sams

Goalkeeper: Ainslee Bernard
Right Back: Lissa Steed
Centre Back: Stone Milton
Centre Back: Rae Brand
Left Back: Jed Sharman
Right Wing: Lexa Pettigrew
Centre Mid: Jameson Elvis
Centre Mid: Chelsea Low
Left Wing: Duke Garrod
Striker: Kent Jackman
Striker: Eli Beverley

The team are held together by survivor Delroy Sams. Sams has lived through it all, tornadoes, forest fires, landslides. There may have been a volcano.. They play a gutsy 4-4-2 with a never say die attitude. The team play their home games at a makeshift stadium that holds roughly six thousand spectators. There’s now only one international airport in Brigantii and food is scarce, so, visiting fans are advised… not to visit basically.

Image

Brigantii 5214: Brigantii

Following Cup of Harmony 70 Brigantii withdrew from international football. The Brigantii Against Freaks movement once again reared its ugly head, taking control of the FA and refusing to allow Brigantii's men's team to play against non-human males. Some twenty or so years on, that has been reversed and Brigantii return to the realm of international football.

Coach: Orson Harden

Goalkeeper: Hank Stone
Right Back: Woody Grenville
Centre Back: Denver Archer
Centre Back: Kenton Close
Left Back: Leland Edwards
Right Wing: Deon Sparks
Centre Mid: Phillip Rowe
Centre Mid: Ian Neville
Left Wing: Devyn Thompsett
Striker: Lane Chambers
Striker: Russ Bell

The team sticks to a traditional 4-4-2, with the midfield creating a diamond and a big man/little man combination up front, Bell being the big to Chambers little. Deon Sparks is the star player of this Brigantii side with the winger, captain, penalty taker, freekick maestro, corner man. The Rookscroft United player is set to be become the most expensive Brigantii player in history with a transfer to Cusco side Real Minanda for £57,000,000. The team most closely resembles Brigantii Prime - the prime timeline - maintaining a Premier League and international footballing presence. The team remain the Stags and play at the Warbury Stadium.

Manager: Image Elidyr Lyndainium • Formation: 4-4-2

It's been a long grind since their debut back in the 75th edition but the Golden Eagles head into their campaign for the 83rd edition as they try to repeat their feat of the WC80 cycle where they won two trophies within that cycle, with their final victories over Audioslavia and Drawkland giving them the Cup of Harmony title and the Independents Cup title respectively. The team have since plateaued on the international stage, which culminated in their fourth group stage exit following a successful qualification campaign during their last cycle, but failed to gather a single point in a competitive group at their most recent outing. The team hopes to return to an upward trajectory under Cenian gaffer Elidyr Lyndainium as manager of the Mercedinian National Football Team. With two major trophies under his belt, many are wondering how far he can take the national team, and whether or not his tactics and style of football will wear off anytime soon, much like former manager David Bjarnasson after he was sacked in the very next cycle after qualifying for the 77th World Cup.

Mercedini go into the cycle as a Pot 2 side for the first time in a while as they drop two places following their point-less run in the previous edition. They have been drawn against stiff opposition in Starblaydia and Eastfield Lodge, meaning qualification is certainly not a given this time around. Their second seeding meant they also avoid some of the big names in world football, but they will return to play a side which Dini have never beaten, following the fateful WC78 campaign which saw Mercedini, as a second seed, finish 5th in the considered group of death for that cycle. Competitive Solitaire and HUElavia will also be present in a varied group which will two qualify with the rest potentially moving on to the Cup of Harmony. The World Cup knockout stages have alluded them thus far, but Dini have another chance to put their brand of football on the map once again.

Four goalkeepers to pick from during qualification, with all the four players being those previously selected for the national, even if their order has been swapped around considerably since the previous edition of the World Cup. Rainard Tatius remains out of the fray despite his big-money move to Velestria, instead Zoloroni Met second-choice goalkeeper Lukas Poyek returns to the team, with Lyndainium citing Tatius' long move to Velestria as reason for his exclusion into the national team this time round. With the short-notice of the transfer and the age of the former-Elspachia goalkeeper also being a logistical nightmare to ship Tatius around with the Mercedinian national team when he still needs to get suited to the Velestria life with is new team. With his heroics last season in securing the domestic double for Zoloroni City; Daniel Hosset has gone full circle in his circuit as a Mercedinian goalkeeper, and now sits in the number one spot once again to lead his team out onto the pitches of foreign lands. The goalkeeper is the last line of defence for the team, with matches won and lost on the whim of their performances. It's hoped that the four selected goalkeeper with do enough to keep clean sheets or at least limit their opponents to allow an opportunity for victory through their attackers.

An aging back line seems to have finally found it's mojo when it comes to blocking out teams from scoring, and that seemed to pay dividends during the last campaign when the Mercedinian defence held out long enough to secure crucial points which kept their heads above water. Lyndainium has stuck with his qualifying team from the previous cycle in order to restore a feeling of familiarity to the group, with domestic and national matches splitting up the team more and more as time goes on. Consistency is key to a fruitful qualifying campaign featuring opponents with all different play styles and abilities. There is nowhere to hide on the plethora of World Cup pitches that this team will play on throughout the campaign, so they will have to lay it all on the track when they get down to it.

Once again, no changes to the midfield roster and they take the reigns for the national team, with the good performances put forward by the midfield squad warranting national praise and re-selection for the upcoming qualification campaign. Mercedini has put itself on the map with it's attractive brand on attacking and controlling football, with the midfield quartet always at the heart of the action as they ebb and flow with the action of the game. Cricket scores can be chalked up when this group is in form, with experienced veterans teaming up with enthusiastic young-guns to provide plenty of variety and depth to Lyndainium as he attempts to get maximum efficiency from his players. Mercedini have often struggled against the top teams due to their inability to keep up with the midfield play, but this group of players are well experienced from one previous cycle together. It is simply a question of whether Mercedini can be put in the same bracket as the top tier of football-playing nations.

STRIKERS
ST Daniel Dostalok 25 Image Starling
ST Ben Chillotov 24 Image Lajuno
ST Charlie Alotic 29 Image Pelethas United

In a roster where there has been little to no change, life continues without Mercedini's talismanic striker, Sam Billic, as he takes care of the Under-21s in what was a solid first cycle for the former army-sargeant turned star footballer. Lyndainium has once again opted for some fresh blood to replace him and to potentially take over the Billic-throne.

But enough about the past, and onto the future. Former Project Olimpo prodigy Feliks Alva will take the place of the legend, as he moves to the fifth choice which bump up Alotic and Graszeszak to 3rd and 4th respectively. Alva became the face of the fightback to try and keep Project Olimpo in the Mercedinan Premier following a dire start to the season. Alva became a regular on the scoresheet to net a number of vital goals before his team eventually succumbed to the drop, which captured the hearts of many in the Mercedinian footballing community. His antics caught the eye of suitors in Elspa where Alva moved to Elspachia to become a first choice striker and a regular starter in the Premier League. Now his selection in the national team has capped off a remarkable rise for the youngster.

Chillotov and Dostalok remain the top two in the Mercedinian striking world and are selected once again to lead the line. It could be a fiesty return to Starblaydia for the pair as the memory of being snuffed out of the World Cup Quals by a resurgeant Starblaydia team live long in the memory of Mercedinian footballing fans . Chillotov will be going for the Billic crown now the Real Azuris striker has stepped out of the picture. The Hoventon-born player now plays in Eura for Lajuno and has been a key play in the team's fight to secure a UICA berth for the community. It's set to be an exciting and inspiring couple of weeks for the team as they set out to claim one of two automatic qualifying spots in the group. Lets go!

The prosperous capital of Mercedini is the stage for the Mercedinian campaign for World Cup Qualification once again. The Zoloroni Sports City Stadium was built in 2012 and has been the national team's home stadium since it was built. The stadium used to hold over 61,000 people, but a recent refurbishment meant that the capacity has increased by approximately 13,000 with the new capacity sitting at roughly 74,500 with the new visiting allocation still being just less than a quarter of that at 18,000. The stadium has hosted a Baptism of Fire final and an Independent's Cup final and third-place play-off during IAC's two and five respectively. those matches were combined with it's hosting of weekly Zoloroni City matches in the MPL, but the capital team have since been evicted after they built their own stadium just down the road. The stadium is still accustomed to regular football featuring the nation's and the multiverse's best teams, when it hosts the MFA Cup final plus playoff finals for National League 1 and National League 2. Mercedinians and visiting spectators who don't have tickets can have a drink in one of the many bars and pubs or they can chill in the World Cup FanZone where they can watch the matches on the big screens along with other football enthusiasts.

Mercedini has two national languages and both are universally spoken in the nation as children are taught both at a young age. Mercedinian is the native language of all citizens and is based around the Italian language, knowing the language isn't paramount to a tourist's experience but Mercedinians always appreciate a foreigner attempting to communicate in Mercedinian. If learning a foreign language isn't your thing then English is also universally spoken throughout the nation (especially in cities and other metropolitan areas as it is considered the language of business and commerce). It is common for Mercedinians to speak more than one language with some opting for a third if proficient enough in their previous two, Google Translate is also only a couple of clicks away if you need it.

Mercedini's national currency is the Mercede (M) and is used universally for the nation's transactions. Currently, the Mercede is a strong and reliable currency with 1.56 NationStates Dollars equalling 1 Yvroni (M0.64 = 1 NS$). Goods & Services in Mercedini are comparably cheap thanks to low operating costs, free-trade deals and low import tariffs for foreign goods, they can be paid for using the common Mercede currency, although visitors can pay with NS Dollars or use their credit or debit cards, with card users ruged to pay in their own currency for better conversion rates. Citizens of Mercedini are pretty well-off with average incomes topping ¥145,000 (226,822 NS$) which means luxury goods & services are as much a part of Mercedinian shopping-culture as the bargains.

Food & Drink is considered a pillar of Mercedinian culture, which means visitors are literally in for a treat when they visit one of the nations many cafes, restaurants, bars or pubs. As previously mentioned, integration has played a large part in the cuisine, but ultimately Mercedinian cuisine has stayed largely close to it's roots. Mercedinian cuisine, like the language, is based on Italian cuisine, with flavourful pasta and rice dishes on offer, along with pizzas and stuffed flatbreads perfect for carnivores and vegetarians. For the tourists, dishes from their home nation will always be on offer which means that visitors can always have a taste of home while enjoying the action in Mercedini. If you're a fan of carb crashes, we think you'll love our nosh!

As it is the official capital city of Mercedini as well as the commercial hub of the nation, Zoloroni is large bustling city littered with modern skyscrapers and office buildings. Zoloroni will be at the centre of the action, holding the host arena as well as hosting most of the pre-festival events that will happen in Mercedini. Visitors will not be disappointed as Zoloroni has restaurants, shops and sightseeing trips in abundance, meaning that performers and fans have plenty of activities waiting for them on their off-days. Zoloroni's main attraction is the Sports City and the shopping centres located just a small journey away from the city centre.

Mercedinans are generally very peaceful to visitors and will pretty much always help out foreigners if they need a recommendation for a restaurant or need help finding direction of their favourite tourist spot, Mercedinian usually keep to themselves out on the street but will converse with almost anyone if approached in a friendly manner, and it always helps to know a bit of Mercedinian first. As a nation, Mercedini welcomes new visitors with open arms and hopes every tourist has a great experience in our nation. Andiamo!

If you want to know more about Mercedini before you visit, feel free to TG me about life in the country

Reçueçn Roster & National Information

Sporting History
Roster & Team Info
Culture and History of Reçueçn
Travel in Reçueçn
Only recently has Reçueçn become a recognizable name in international competition. The nation has had but a few opportunities to make forays into the world of international football. Reçueçn debuted in the 59th Baptism of fire, where they made it to the quarterfinals. In their last game of that tournament, they took Panem, the eventual winners, all the way to kicks from the mark, coming the closest to defeating the champions-to-be out of any nation in that Baptism of Fire class. Since then, Reçueçn has taken part in only a few international tournaments. Immediately following the Baptism of Fire, Reçueçn played a friendly against United RussoAsia in "Le 1er Annuel Tournoi Teikei," which they handily won, 3-1. Afterwards, the nation attempted twice, back-to-back, to qualify for the world cup, both times unsuccessfully. Following the first attempt, during World Cup 72 qualifiers, Reçueçn was invited to the 64th Cup of Harmony, where two draws in the group stage proved not to be enough to advance.

After Reçueçn's abortive attempt to qualify for the 73rd World Cup, the nation ceased entering international tournaments for a long period. During this phase, domestic sport in Reçueçn fell into disarray as well. Only last year did things change, when a young legislative staffer named Jean-Luc Lassalle began an initiative to resurrect organized sport in the country with the government's assistance. The result of his push was the creation of the brand new Reçuecian Ministry of Sport, which promptly reorganized domestic association football leagues throughout the country and got things moving once more. Lassalle himself became the new Minister of Sport, despite his young age.

For the national team, this meant involvement once more in international competition. Reçueçn's first chance to declare its return came at the 7th Independent Associations' Championship. To the surprise of everyone, including its own fans, the unranked Reçuecian national team managed to win 3rd place, taking home its first silverware of any kind. The team itself largely consisted of the same squad that had partaken in the Baptism of Fire and World Cup qualifiers all of 10 World Cup cycles ago.

The team has struggled in the past, due to the rivalries within Reçuecian domestic football. During the Baptism of Fire and first international competitions for the national team, the players did not really have enough experience playing with each other to have developed the necessary camaraderie or team spirit. Hopes were high that the creation of the Ministry of Sport would herald in a new era. Since the team was largely the same, some of the rivalries came back at first, but the team's performance at IAC 7 smoothed over its troubles and the team seems to have gelled.

Riding high on their latest achievement the team headed into qualifiers for World Cup 83 full of confidence, and it showed: Reçueçn qualified for the world cup finals and even made it to the round of sixteen, where they were eliminated by Cassadaigua. Since the 84th World Cup, Reçueçn has won every single one of its games, taking home the trophy for the eighth IAC--although 'taking home' isn't quite apt, since the tournament was hosted in the country.

Reçueçn now returns to world cup qualifiers hopeful to continue its recent performance and if possible qualify again.

All time record: 31-18-20
Image
The Reçuecian National Team is a relative unknown, but if it's known for anything, it would be for its defensive style. This is partly due to the large influence of Reçueçn FC on the team--the most popular domestic club in Reçueçn plays about as defensive a game as you can imagine. This is balanced out to some extent by the players from other teams with more attacking philosophies, but the league as a whole tends towards defense, and it shows in the national team. Furthermore, Gerauld Firaut, the team's #1 goalie, is the best player on the team by a solid margin--likely the only truly world class player. He and his defense form the foundation for the whole team. The team plays in a 4-3-3 formation, but sometimes the wings drop back, almost making it a 4-5-1. In general, the team's strategy and tactics are solid--Jacques Tremblay, the coach, knows his stuff despite his age. The weakness would be the quality of the talent on the team--Reçueçn has not yet had the opportunity to develop or train true world class talent.

The Reçueçian National Team's mascot is the Unicorn; thus another name for the team is "The Unicorns". The fantastical creature has been a symbol of Reçueçn for almost two millennia and is also the national animal, appearing as the supporters in the national coat of arms.

Image
The team's kit represents the colors of the flag in a quite literal fashion. This kit was first one the Unicorns ever wore, dating back to the 59th Baptism of Fire. Today it is unpopular with fans, who think it is old-fashioned, badly designed, and ugly. Although the RNFA secretly admits that the fans are right and aims to replace the kit soon, they tout it as 'traditional' and promote its value as a connection to the team's past.

Reçueçn has only one stadium in which its national team plays, located in the capital city (also named Reçueçn). Never having been given an official title, the national stadium is usually simply referred to just that: The National Stadium. Capacity: 30,000.

Roster

Jacques Tremblay
Manager, 70 years old.
Old and wise, and known for his eternal ability to surprise and innovate, Jacques Tremblay is often seen as the father of modern Reçuecian football. He was once the coach of Associated Savoie, and during that period they performed much better than they had before or than they have since. His new method brought great players to the team, and when he retired, it hurt the team greatly. Despite his retirement, when asked to coach the national team for the Baptism of fire, did not refuse. He and Gerauld Firaut hold together the national team, oft riven with tension. Really, Tremblay is too old to still be coaching a soccer team, especially at the international level. Yet his players still hold a lot of respect for him, both as the Reçuecian footballing legend that he is, but also now as a coach and mentor--even if sometimes they wish he'd let them unwind a little more.

Bonheur Relié
Assistant Manager, 44 years old.
The only new face on this roster, this cycle marks the first time the RNFT has published the name of any of its assistant coaches with its roster. Relié is fierce and passionate, and acts as a bit of a foil to the older, more reserved Tremblay.

Starters

Gerauld Firaut
Goalkeeper, 24 years old. Team captain. Jersey #1. Plays for Reçueçn FC.
Responsible and mature for his age, Firaut is widely considered the best player in Reçeuçn. His star status does not extend outside the country as of yet, however. Of course, as a goalie, it may be hard to compete with the international fame that strikers often achieve. His goal-tending skill, however, is unparalleled. When he's not putting up a wall in the net, Firaut acts as his team's moral compass off the pitch. Level-headed and perceptive, Firaut is a wonderful leader for the team, both in and outside the game. His tactical instincts are not bad, and it's not uncommon to hear him yelling instructions to his defense. Firaut is happily married and has a two-year-old daughter.

Leo Beck
Sweeper, 28 years old. Jersey #2. Plays for Reçueçn FC.
During the regular season, Beck plays on the same team as his goalkeeper, Gerauld Firaut. Thus on the national team as well, they work well together. Although older than Firaut, he looks up to him as a leader, and is very protective of him, as well as Reçueçn FC's reputation. Beck is a stellar player and helps fill out his team's defensive capabilities.

Ägidius Heissler
Left back, 34 years old. Jersey #3. Plays for Itrino.
Heissler is getting a bit older, but he can always find a way to trap an attack in the corner, and then win the goal kick. A very tall man, he's come in useful for the Unicorns in many a set piece where he's headed away a dangerous corner kick or free kick. His phlegmatic personality is an asset to a team largely full of high-strung starlets fighting for attention.

Norman Bright
Center back, 32 years old. Jersey #4. Plays for Renwyll.
Bright was widely credited for Renwyll's high performance in the Globe Cup 56. He has good spacial awareness and an ability to control the center of the box without letting his mark slip. When paired with a strong goalie, Bright really shines, and has the potential to turn that pair into a duo to be reckoned with.

Oliver Spencer
Right back, 23 years old. Jersey #5. Plays for Brinemouth [NPH].
Another one of Reçueçn FC's star defenders, Spencer is often outshone by Firaut, and can never decide whether the rivalry he thinks they have is more important than team spirit or not. Now that he's just been signed by a side in the Nephara Premiership that's likely to do well, he's happy to quietly show off back in Reçueçn.

Luc Pélissier
Left midfielder, 30 years old. Jersey #6. Plays for Heldingen.
With Clint Soto's retirement before IAC 7, Pélissier was promoted to a starting position for the team. Although his spot as a national team starter isn't undeserved, he doesn't have quite the same level of talent as some of the other stars.

Grégoire Leclair
Defensive midfielder, 28 years old. Jersey #18. Plays for Association Genève.
A while back Leclair began seeing more playing time as Tremblay switched him onto the starting list for Saunders. This was seen as a shift towards defense, as Saunders plays in more of an attacking role than Leclair does. But in training leading up to qualifiers, it seems that Tremblay is doubling down on this strategy and leaning on Leclair in particular.

Maynard Hebron
Right midfielder, 25 years old. Jersey #8. Plays for the Alpine Armageddon.
The unsung hero of the Alpine Armageddon (one of the lowest ranked teams in domestic competition in Reçueçn), Hebron is a great proponent of football development across the nation, especially on behalf of smaller amateur teams who want to join the RNFL. This has lead in the past to a resentful attitude on his part towards some of the larger clubs--clubs who provide most of the players on the national team. Hebron's sports activism, however, is smiled upon by most people in Reçueçn, and with the advent of the new Ministry of Sport, he hopes for more opportunities for him to promote soccer throughout the country. World cup qualifications are a wonderful stage on which he can gain visibility.

Hippolyte Lavigne
Left wing, 31 years old. Jersey #9. Plays for Hawthorne Kickers [XAN].
Lavigne can make great crosses, but can tense up under pressure if he has to score himself. His best skill is his ability to take the ball from the midfielders, get deep into attacking territory, and feed it to a striker. Lavigne is very tall, which is probably what is responsible for his position as a leading figure on and off the field.

Frank "Franky" Adams
Center forward, 19 years old. Jersey #10. Plays for Association Genève.
Young, extremely talented, and rather cocky, Franky, who plays for Association Genève in the RNFL, really makes their team. When he has a bad shooting streak, his team has a losing streak, and vice versa. Franky knows this. At Association Genève, the team and the fans love him. At the national team, they tolerate him--his rivalries with Reçueçn FC's players have caused tension in the past, putting more responsibility on Tremblay to defuse the situation. Tremblay, incidentally, thinks Franky is a bit conceited, but is also keenly aware of his talent. Franky is the national team's all-time leading scorer (33 goals in 67 games). Still a teenager, it looks like he will be one of the faces of Reçuecian football for a while, and he's couldn't be more thrilled about it--if anything's bigger than his talent, it's his personality. Besides Firaut, he is probably the most well-known player on the team. The recent run of relative success the unicorns have had allowed him to overcome some of his rivalries with his teammates, but it doesn't look like he'll ever settle down to become the sort of spiritual leader a player like Firaut is. He will probably continue to clown around for years.

Freeman Lebo
Right wing, 26 years old. Jersey #11. Plays for Pelethas United [COS].
Lebo can score goals, is highly motivated, and persevering. Like some others, however, he is a bit high-strung. He was happy to go his own way and become one of the first Reçuecian players who played abroad. Lebo found a spot playing for Cosumar's Klyde FC for a few seasons, making a few decent globe cup runs along the way. He's now very happy to have found another Cosumarite club in Pelethas United. He hasn't been home for Christmas in a few years.

Reserves

Jannick Bechtholdt
Goalkeeper, 31 years old. Jersey #12. Plays for Association Genève.
Association Genève's starting keeper has to alternately put up with being a goalie on a team where it's all about the attack, and being goalie on the national team where he is constantly outclassed by Gerald Firaut. Often ignored, he is still a great player.

Emanuele Cutrona
Sweeper, 20 years old. Jersey # 13. Plays for Harrim FC.
Cutrona is one of the two latest callups for the national team, first playing during IAC 7. He is the only Italian-speaking player on the team (although others are from Italian-speaking clubs). He is the second youngest player on the squad, besides the precocious Franky. He and Franky, of course, get along pretty well, constantly joking around and pulling pranks. Sometimes next to Franky, even Cutrona seems older and more mature. But Franky has also been on the team for years, so sometimes it's obvious that he's the one who knows the ropes--even if he doesn't always respect the rules.

Paulin Bourguignon
Left back, 21 years old. Jersey #14. Plays for Stomford.
Bourguignon is the kind of defensive player who is always trying to clear the ball by booting it up the field as hard as he can. That is, at least, when he's not in the opponents' box on a corner kick trying to score. Big on counter-attacks, he sometimes outpaces the mid-fielders, usually to his coach's dismay.

Lukas Kayserling
Center back, 20 years old. Jersey #15. Plays for Herzegovina City FC [BNJ].
Kayserling sometimes has difficulty communicating as he doesn't speak English or French as well as most of the other team members, and most of them don't speak German. However, at press conferences, he's great at sitting there and looking somber. A tall, intimidating figure, he takes his job very seriously; he takes everything seriously.

Klaus Klemm
Right back, 28 years old. Jersey #16. Plays for Chapel-Field House.
Plays defense, but as if he were a mid-fielder. He plays for Chapel-Field House, a team from the same city as Reçueçn FC, but with a much smaller fan-base. This bothers Klemm. Since the national team games are played in the capital too, he's always insisting that it's his turf and that he won't be made a second-class citizen. Nobody else thinks he is; he's a solid player.

Raoul Lavigne
Left midfielder, 21 years old. Jersey #17. Plays for Monmouth Park [CBP].
No relation of the slightly more well-known Hippolyte Lavigne who starts for the team, Raoul is the other of the Unicorns' two latest callups besides Emanuele Cutrona. He caught the NT's scouts' eyes after helping Bonneville Sporting to a couple good seasons. Still a newcomer on the team, he hasn't perhaps 'clicked' yet, but given the chance to play, should be able to distinguish himself.

Harold Saunders
Attacking midfielder, 27 years old. Jersey #7. Plays for Association Genève.
Saunders is synonymous with an aggressive style of play, especially in the midfield. He seems to always be able to find a way to give the ball to Franky. One of the leaders of the team, he is emotionally well-balanced on and off the field. He plays less often now that the team is shifting even further towards defense.

Thomas Büchel
Right midfielder, 30 years old. Jersey #19. Plays for Reçueçn FC.
Büchel is a very fluid player, who doesn't let himself get locked into the same rut. His best trait is his situational ability, which, when coupled with his dribbling and passing skills, makes him a formidable force when trying to maintain possession or get the ball forward.

Per Tegeler
Left wing, 23 years old. Jersey #20. Plays for Marketville [EUR].
Good at receiving the ball from the defense or mid-field, trapping it in general, and taking it into the 18-yard box and shooting. A possible weakness of Tegeler's is passing: either he doesn't, or it's long air balls.

Ly Nasser
Center forward, 22 years old. Jersey #21. Plays for Zimmerich FC.
Nasser loves to shoot from far out, and often shoots high. Despite this, he makes up for it with his sheer number of shots. Incredibly aggressive, and loved by Zimmerich fans. Personally, he is of the opinion that he is one of the best strikers in the world. He is certainly an asset to the team, although his attacking style doesn't always mesh well with their more defensive method of play.

Jean-Baptiste Brochard
Right wing, 26 years old. Jersey #22. Plays for Lampadaires Associated.
Brochard is incredibly fast, and having the ball doesn't slow him down hardly at all. Although Brochard is weaker in set pieces and organized attacks, he is strong on the counterattack and the breakaway, where he can outpace the opposing team's defenders.

Helies de Malhortye
Goalkeeper, 34 years old. Jersey #23. Plays for Zimmerich FC.
De Malhortye has noble blood and is rather high-strung--but then, what football player isn't? A lot of other goalies, I guess. De Malhortye is still a solid choice for a back-up goalie, but on a team with Firaut, there's little call for him. His one particular strength is blocking penalties.
The nation of Reçueçn was created in the first half of the XIVth century, when Carl Blancpic, Duke of the Duchy of Reçueçn, launched a breakneck military campaign invading and annexing many of his neighbors to the east. Before this time, Reçueçn had been only a city, built on the heights overlooking the junction of the Rhône and Saône rivers. These heights had been settled by Carl Blancpic's distant ancestor, Ifheda Rcuecn, near the end of the IInd century a.d., and had born his name ever since. The area at that time belonged to the Roman Empire, who had established their regional administrative center, Lugdunum, on the other side of the river.

In 197 a.d., a decisive battle was fought near Lugdunum in one of the civil wars for the throne of the empire. The victor, Septimius Severus, razed the city of Lugdunum and destroyed it, stripping from it all imperial privileges in punishment for supporting his rival. This was the end for Lugdunum, but it was the beginning for Reçueçn. Refugees flocked across the river to join the settlement, and the city of Reçueçn grew to become a smallish regional center. Rcuecn's descendants (who changed the spelling to Reçueçn) maintained control over what became the Duchy of Reçueçn for 700 years, until it was inherited by their cousins the Blancpics who reigned for another 300 years.

At the beginning of the XIVth century, power passed into the hands of Carl Blancpic, who was partially insane and a megalomaniac. Thus he declared his duchy to be a kingdom and singled out weak neighbors who he invaded with audacity. Over an incredibly short period of time beginning in the spring of 1337, he had carved out for himself a sizable dominion.

Carl, who styled himself "Carl III of Reçueçn", was violent, unstable, and petty. He was also wildly unpopular with the populations of the various states he had conquered. Although the central power structure helped the economy of the new Kingdom of Reçueçn to some extent, it did not bring with it all the stability that might have been expected. This was mostly due to the decrees of Carl III, who, among other things, began a campaign to persecute and kill all "heretics" within his new realm. Most historians agree that this was in fact a thinly veiled purge of his political rivals. This and other policies he enacted on his whims finally drove the people into open revolt sometime around 1352.

Carl managed to hold on to power for a couple years by hiring mercenaries, but in 1254 lost two key battles and was captured by the rebels. By this time, the rebellion was led by feudal lords throughout the country who had sided with the people against their tyrant king. Carl III was executed, and the kingdom dissolved into a mess of tiny, independent feudal holdings.

No sooner had the various states that had been in the Kingdom of Reçueçn won their independence, than infighting broke out among them. The feudal lords squabbled over power and influence, trying vainly to imitate Carl's meteoric rise to power. This new violence, combined with the economic downturn associated with the rebellion and the breakup of the nation, clearly displayed how poorly things were turning out. More sensible minds came to the decision that the solution was to once more unify Reçueçn.

On November 19, 1356, therefore, The Allied States of Reçueçn came into being. The leaders of all the petty states, duchies, bishoprics, free cities, etc., came together and signed what are known as "The Treaties of the Alliance," a document just powerful enough to classify Reçueçn as a single nation by most people's definition, rather than a group of independent entities. The treaties also established a rough form of democracy, with each state represented (although typically by its aristocracy). Thus Reçueçn lays claim to being one of the oldest democracies in the world.

The treaties defined much of Reçuecian history to come. Provisions were made to establish freedom of religion, in order to avoid another scenario similar to Carl III's persecution of his opponents. The treaties also gave Reçueçn an isolationist bent. The nation had been burned before, and wouldn't soon try to meddle in external affairs, especially when its composite nature made creating a foreign policy so difficult.

Reçueçn, then, has managed to avoid many of the crises of European history. It's darkest moment came when Napoleon invaded, proclaiming himself emperor (although he allowed Reçueçn's government to continue to function under his reign). The allied states have drawna closer together, although cultural differences remain among them; they don't even all speak the same language.

Reçueçian culture has also been shaped by its location, nestled in the center of the Alps. Although rural communities did center around agriculture--especially dairy production--many Reçuecian were forced by the lack of arable land to find other work. This led to a culture of innovation that continues today: Reçueçn is now known for its luxury products and technological exports. This has additionally led to a focus on science and education. The relatively diverse nature of Reçueçn's culture means that some areas are culturally more time-oriented while others are more task-oriented, but this conjunction has led to some unique things, especially in art. Reçueçn, perhaps thanks to its inland, mountainous location, or the fact that it was never a colonial power, has seen little immigration or emigration. Recently, however, the diversity of language spoken in the country has made it attractive to refugees from other areas where those languages are spoken.
Reçueçn is a small nation, but it's got a lot to see. If you're visiting to attend a world cup qualification match, you may want to stay the weekend to see the sights.

Travelling to and in Reçueçn
If you are coming to Reçueçn for world cup qualifying, you will most likely want to fly into Reçueçn city. As the capital and biggest city, it will definitely have the flight connection you need. Genève, the nation's second city, will also accommodate you in this regard, but Reçueçn city is also the site of every Reçueçian home qualification game. If you are travelling from a nearby country, arriving by rail is also a possibility, and many more Reçueçian cities have international rail connections than have international airports.

For travel within the country, taking the train is probably the way to go. Car rentals are fairly expensive, and many cities restrict downtown access to pedestrians and public transport. When travelling through the countryside, you will find that autoroutes have high tolls, and smaller roads are typically wind annoyingly through steep mountain terrain. However, an extensive rail and tunnel network has been built, and taking the train is fairly cheap between most places in the nation. Bus routes also connect most larger towns. Within cities themselves, public transport is always very high quality and usually very affordable or in some cities, even free. But armed with these tips, the next question is: where to go?

What to See
Presumably if you're reading this, the main attraction that has brought you to Reçueçn are the world cup qualifying games, all played just a short bus ride away from Reçueçn international airport at the National Stadium in Reçueçn's inner suburbs. You could take the metro there without going outside. But if you want to see a bit more of Reçueçn, consider taking a ride up to a cute alpine village and hiking along a mountain ridge to appreciate the amazing views we have to offer. Or take a swim in a mountain lake and cool off in the shadow of the peaks. If you really are looking to ditch the heat, check out the ice tunnels at the Écho glaciers. Or, if you come back in the winter, you can hit the slopes--our skiing's the best in the world.

If the mountains aren't for you, consider visiting our world-famous cheese museum--free samples! Or visit the Genève Cathedral if the culture you're looking for isn't bacteria. Genève, Reçueçn, Zimmerich, and other cities all have beautiful downtown historic districts worth the walking tour. Check them out if your idea of a good time means wandering through medieval fortifications or strolling down cobbled alleys. If what's up your alley is shopping, then we've got that too--check out Genève's luxury district for high end jewelry, fashion, watches, and more. Exchanging your money should be no problem: the Reçueçian guilder is very stable and worth only a little more than the NSD.

Where to Stay, What to Eat
If you are on the search for the perfect hotel for your stay in Reçueçn, worry not. Plenty of all kinds abound in and around each major city, whether you're looking for the four star experience, or just want to save a buck. If you'd rather have the personal, local touch, then we've still got you covered: a quick look online will reveal plenty of family-owned bed & breakfasts, as well as short-term rentals with people trying to make some money off the empty spare room one night or week at a time. Hostels are also very popular in Reçueçn, and are a great way to stay near the city center for a very low cost.

What'll you have for dinner? Reçueçn's food is what will make you want to come back for another visit. We love our cheeses, and our national specialty is Raclette, melted cheese scraped over small potatoes, cornichons, and salami. Try it at a restaurant where each table is provided with its own small oven so each diner can melt their own. Another local specialty is Tartiflette, essentially a casserole of potatoes, onions, and lardon (thick-cut bacon) served with a slab of, you guessed it, more melted cheese cooked right over it.

If you find yourself in an alpine pasture hankering for a pique-nique, rather than seated at a fine dining establishment, don't worry, cheese is great for a basket-lunch too. Bring along a baguette and a saucisson, and you've got yourself a meal.

No meal in Reçueçn is complete without a glass of wine, and the local product is certainly worth the connoisseur's time. Reçuecian wine varies immensely depending on whether you're south, west, or north of the Alps, so try a few varieties and pick your favorite. If you need a pairing for your meal, it just so happens that every single person you meet on the street in the country is a self-proclaimed expert ready with helpful advice. Just don't stop them on their way home for dinner.

Do's and Don't's
Do say "Bonjour" to those you pass, if you're in a small town. Don't block the passageway in the metro if you're in the city. Do take your time to enjoy a meal or a conversation in western Reçueçn. Don't be late in eastern Reçueçn. Do greet people with a kiss on each cheek. Don't actually let your lips touch them. Do cheer loudly for your team! Don't insult the Unicorns in front of their fans. Do take a selfie with your head on the block at execution square in downtown Reçueçn. Don't miss out on your visit because you're on your phone the whole time. Do rent a bike and pedal around to see the sights. Don't be unprepared to parallel park if you've rented a car. Do make eye contact during a conversation. Don't stare at people. Do be ready to share gossip with perfect strangers. Don't expect people to open up to you right away. Do keep your hands above the table at dinner. Don't yawn when someone's talking to you. Do offer to help your host with cleaning up. Don't ask for seconds until offered. Do speak your mind and be straightforward. Don't bank on too much personal space.

Do have the time of your life.

Assistant Manager under Godefroy Abascal, Myers has always been named among the leading candidates for pretty much any managerial job in Darmen. Despite that, no club has successfully been able to negotiate a contract with him and it now appears as though he insisted on taking the helm of the national team. He's brought almost all of the old coaching staff with him and initiated a major tactical change for the All Greens in the adoption of the 4-2-3-1 as the primary formation. There will still be an emphasis on passing and on wing play, but more attention will be given to defending.

Team Personality
The Darmeni team will never argue with the referee. Indeed, if anything needs to be brought to the attention of the referee it will be done by either the Captain or Vice-Captain in a respectful manner (or to the fourth-official by the Manager). With regards to foul/dirty play, the Darmeni team will not provoke, or retaliate against any opposition player. Darmeni's expect each team to keep to itself and deal with its own trouble makers; any opposition player who attempts to prevent a conflict by pushing or pulling a Darmeni away from the scene will be promptly told off, as that is the duty of the Darmeni Captain.

Nonetheless, Darmen will play in a relatively aggressive manner. Tackles will be conducted in a way which ensures the opponent ends up on the ground, but causing injury will be avoided as much as possible. On set pieces, Darmenis will stand their ground and will not be easily pushed around, they will not however engage in hugging. In fact, if any opposing player tries to push past them, it is not uncommon for the Darmeni player to feign resistance before simply stepping aside and watching as the opposing player stumbles past on their way to ground. This occasionally backfires however, as the referee may mistake the incidence as having been a foul in the box.

WC84 Roster

Squornshelan Remnant States Black-and-Reds Roster

It's put up or shut up time for Donnell and her team. After a disappointing finish to WC83 qualifying, failing to make the playoffs, but strong showings in the Cup of Harmony (eliminated in the quarterfinals) and Independent Associations Championship (third place), they will, pending a group draw, be expected to challenge for qualifying at the very least. As the 32nd seed among expected qualifying participants, the Black-and-Reds are 3rd seed in their group, behind South Covello and Qasden, but most Confederate fans will expect them to qualify nonetheless. Adding to the drama, the Imperium of Squornshelous has chosen this moment to reappear, making a good performance by the Confederacy all the more important. With several veteran players facing the likely end of their international careers following this cycle, the pressure on Donnell is enormous, and a poor end result could easily cost her job.

MID QUALIFYING UPDATE
After failing to win and earning only three points through six matches, Donnell was fired, replaced by former Brantisvogan manager Heldir Zaman. From matchday 10 onward, the team will employ his more aggressive 4-4-2 rather than Donnell's conservative 4-3-3. The team's performance over the second half of qualifying will determine whether Zaman remains as permanent manager.

Player Pool for Qualifying Callups
(should the SRS qualify, this post will be updated with a 23-player roster for the World Cup)

Goalkeepers
Stovar Krieven - North Laithland (NPH) - 29 y/o - 19 caps - Male
Istaro Munib has officially retired from international football, and Krieven is his heir apparent. The one-time Interblag backstop has played his football in Nephara for a few years now, and looks set to be the first Confederate to play in the Premiership in consecutive years, after helping the Spiders to a mid-table finish in his first year in Lindmark. This hasn't been his finest club year statistically, as the Spiders endured some real beatings, but under Donnell's more conservative system, he should be left much less exposed. As a keeper, he is known for his athleticism and, increasingly, his *ahem* communication with his defense.
Kinner Mustahil - Chalesm FC - 31 y/o - 3 caps - Male
Mustahil seems to have finally rediscovered his form of years ago, helping to spur a rebirth at Chalesm, and adding his name to the national team roster for the first time since World Cup 81. On the field, he's a player who beats shooters with positioning and anticipation, rather than brute athleticism. Making that transition these past few years was a hard process for him, but he looks better than ever.
Argis Ekewakan - FC Yassaca - 32 y/o - 0 caps - Male
Some will argue that Ekewakan's numbers this year are a product of Yassaca's defensive system, but those joyless bastards probably said the same thing about Munib and Traal years ago. To see a player get a shot to play for his country at this age, when he must have all but given up hope is something special.
Kulap Erer - Emerald Coast - 31 y/o - 0 caps - Male
A lot of the things said about Ekewakan could probably also be said about Erer. He is a bit of a sweeper keeper sometimes, and chemistry with his back line will be important for overall defensive play in any caps he gets.

Left Backs
Djabgor Dzarkhin - Foxchester Raiders (STB) - 29 y/o - 55 caps - Male
Dependable, no-nonsense defensive fullback. Darkhin isn't going to score many goals, he's not going to thread pinpoint crosses in to your target man. What he's going to do is make life hell for your opposing right wing.
Danin Geladi - Hugh Town Millionaires (DAR) - 28 y/o - 41 caps - Male
Dzarkhin's opposite in almost every way. Eager to get forward, with a deft touch on his crosses. Geladi needs to play next to a center back with good speed and anticipation, because they will occasionally be called upon to cover for him when he's caught out of position.
Gisa Tuvas - Emerald Coast - 25 y/o - 0 caps - Female
Tuvas is much more well-rounded than either of the men ahead of her on the depth chart. She'll be trying to make the case that she's the best option going forward, and that the Boys' Club days of the Black-and-Reds defense should end.
Walda Harkhan - FC Yassca - 22 y/o - 0 caps - Female
Harkhan is still pretty raw, but seems to have really take to the team play and responsibility drilled at Yassaca. She looks set to take over for Clegg in Melkum's starting lineup next year, and most scouts project her quickly becoming the star of the Yassaca back line.

Right Backs
Jinkzta Ulcviecel - Jinja City (BNJ) - 31 y/o - 63 caps - Male
BFA champion with Jinja City, Ulcviecel is without a doubt the most successful Confederate to take his talents abroad. His trademark speed has started to wane with age, but he's still a very capable player.
Janar Delu - Algolia AC - 29 y/o - 31 caps - Male
Delu's play with Algolia has been less impressive this year than in years past, but that could easily be said of almost every Suntiger. His international experience is invaluable, and Donnell is betting that his national team form will transcend Algolia's stuggles.
Reuter Storsjo - Traal Athletics - 26 y/o - 0 caps - Male
Storsjo has quietly proven to be a solid right back, and is currently Oleb's right-hand man at Traal. He stepped up with the departure of Antrobus a few years back, and has seen Geladi, and Nakhutin also depart from the back line. Despite all the subtractions, the Traal defense remains solid, and Storsjo is a big part of that.
Jaylene Kazarov - Syneca AC - 24 y/o - 0 caps - Female
While Syneca's defense as a whole has been anything but impressive (their wins have come on the strength of their attack), Kazarov is an interesting case. She has elapsed Roskam for the starting job, and has a real nose for the ball. Many Syneca counterattacks start up their right wing with a well-placed outlet pass from Kazarov.

Center Backs
Tervi Oleb - Traal Athletics - 32 y/o - 67 caps - Male
Elder statesman, defensive captain, Oleb is a complete center back, even with his steadily advancing age.
Rudi Dalso - Jaglan Royals - 28 y/o - 28 caps - Male
Dalso seems like he's having to single-handedly hold Royals' defense together these days, and doing a decent job of it. He'll likely welcome a little international play. The opposition may be tougher, but the players on either side of him will be a bit more dependable.
Zemen Ystrad - Parrhesia United (NPH) - 30 y/o - 29 caps - Male
Ystrad has had quite the interesting career. Starter for World Cup 81 under Daror, first escapee of the impending disaster at Olympia, then out of favor in Donnell's early years. Paying his dues bouncing between the Nepharim Premierhip and First Division has earned him a spot with the national team again though, and the hard hitting center back will have the chance to take out some of his frustration with Parrhesia's poor season on the Black-and-Reds opponents.
Skumantas Nakhutin - Gladerial United (VAL) - 30 y/o - 5 caps - Male
Taking a chance by leaving Traal to play in the Eternal Empire Nakhutin is an ambitious player, and wants to get proper playing time with the Black-and-Reds before age takes too much of a toll.
Roffen Ritschl - Vilitan Declasse (VIL) - 25 y/o - 0 caps - Male
Ritschl also took a chance, leaving Algolia for playing time in the Vilitan Declasse. Funny thing is, no one I talked to at Algolia seems to know exactly which club he was sold to. In any case, his promise is enough that Donnell will give him a look during qualifying. Ritschl's towering frame is a manager's dream, but whether he will fully grow into it with regard to his instincts and positioning remains to be seen.
Terun Cadash - Algolia AC - 27 y/o - 0 caps - Female
The player Ritschl couldn't get playing time from, Cadash will also compete with him for national team time. Rumors are the the two are not particularly fond of each other, which could spell trouble for defensive chemistry if Donnell needs to call on both of them together. Cadash is a little quicker than Ritschl, and a little savvier, having played just a bit longer, but is on the short side for a center back.

Left Midfielders
Aatu Ruoho - Brantisvogan - 26 y/o - 22 caps - Male
Ruoho is the rising star of Brantisvogan, giving them hope for the future on the other side of the current rebuild. Fast and elusive, he is difficult to dispossess, and is equally likely to shoot or pass
Izoni Hocij - Chalesm - 25 y/o - 0 caps - Female
Hocij was a revelation with Chalesm, scoring at a pace no one expected. Able to play the ball with either foot, she is dangerous both when cutting inside to shoot or going wide around defenders. She has a habit of giving away free kicks after losing the ball, overzealously trying to win it back.
Lavanya Naqvi - Emerald Coast - 25 y/o - 8 caps - Female
Naqvi had a quieter season than some expected from a goalscoring perspective, as opposing superleague defenses were quick to swarm whenever she was on the ball, but she put up very creditable assist numbers, and is probably the best pure technician the Black-and-Reds have available.
Jzeovak Vladcik - 24 y/0 - Lublova Reds - 66 caps - Male
Also frequently used at left forward, Vladcik's star has fallen a bit from his wunderkind days. Some have criticized a lack of effort, and one must admit that Vladcik's stats have trailed off, as has his involvement in attacking plays generally. This trend is definitely linked to Lublova's decline, and Vladik will need to prove he still belongs in the first 11.
Ozol Gebara - Megabrantid SC - 33 y/o - 22 caps - Male
The elder statesmen at a position flush with players in their mid 20's, Gebara is a veteran who can run the attack from out left. He is an excellent distributor of the ball, and is also a danger to shoot if allowed too much space near the edges of the box.

Right Midfielders
Vrenz Tambura - Tekstil Ibon (MYT) - 29 y/o - 47 caps - Male
Tambura is most at home out right, but has plenty of experience on the left as well, and will readily range back and forth across the field as needed. He seems to find himself in the right place at the right time again and again.
Meaza Teklu - Megabrantid SC - 27 y/o - 4 caps - Female
Teklu is definitely a capable midfielder, but needs to prove that she is something more than the person who plays next to Takala at MSC. She's more of an assist-getter than goal scorer, but if she could bring a little more of the latter, it would go a long way toward earning her some more playing time.
Eyob Zonde - Eintracht Trink (ZWZ) - 31 y/o - 50 caps - Male
Zonde is a wily veteran winger. Not the speedster he might have been, he's got experience to burn and excels at exchanging overlapping runs with a wingback.
Ezuri Thiel - Emerald Coast - 28 y/o - 0 caps - Female
In contrast to her counterpart at Emerald Coast, Thiel is as direct as it gets. When she moves with the ball, it's in one direction - forward. Her style is more brute force than finesse, and goalkeepers who stop one of her shots might wish they hadn't from the pain in their fingers.
Naiva Storrev - Francisca Orient (BRE) - 26 y/o - 0 caps - Female
One of the only good things going for HDC during their relegation season, Storrev has jumped ship to play in Brenecia, and looks set to thrive.

Center Midfielders
Iuri Takala - Megabrantid SC - 25 y/o - 16 caps - Male
It's official, Takala has succeeded Damot. The Black-and-Reds first captain will still get playing time, and is an important leader for the team off the field, but Takala is in his prime, and playing his best football. He's a player who does it all: scoring, distributing, and getting back on defense.
Danin Stolp - Algolia AC - 25 y/o - 10 caps - Male
The other competitor for Damot's old mantel, Stolp is a player very much in the same vein as Takala, if not quite the goalscorer. He's definitely the second choice for Donnell, but sometimes just doesn't quite have the magic touch Takala does.
Arlo Damot - Traal Athletics - 34 y/o - 68 caps - Male
The veteran, fan favorite, heart and soul of the team. Damot was the complete center mid for years, and was ever present for both Daror and now Donnell. Alas, he isn't getting any younger, and this will probably be his last hurrah. The whole team will want that much more to clinch qualification to get Damot to a World Cup.
Lavinia Pivlic - AC Damogran - 28 y/o - 0 caps - Female
Pivlic was a bright spot for an Athletic team with a lot of dark. With Tambura gone, someone new needed to step up to lead the midfield, and Pivlic seems to be the candidate. Her stats suffered with playing for a bad team, but her instincts and vision on the field are impressive, and will serve her well.
Jirar Lomidan - Ibini FC (VAL) - 29 y/o - 3 caps - Male
Now here's a name that's been off the Confederate radar for a while. Lomidan played a few years in Qusmo, but didn't impress enough to earn any callups. With the social situation deteriorating there, he flirted with a return to Yassaca, but ended up signing with Ibini FC in the Eternal Empire. A player once mentioned in the same breath as Takala and Stolp as far as potential successors for Damot, he'll have an opportunity to show he rates more than three caps.
Isperia Marrish - Megabrantid SC - 21 y/o - 0 caps - Female
Marrish emerged for MSC during the second half of the season, when Kroetzl finally lost his starting job after contributing largely nothing. She promptly began scoring goals, and earned her way onto this list, giving MSC the distinct honor of having all four of their starting midfielders named to the qualifying shortlist.
Selvala Tabur - FC Yassaca - 23 y/o - 0 caps - Female
Tabur is another player who made her presence felt fairly late in the year, coming off the bench for a fairly unimpressive Ryndin. Her numbers aren't flashy (no one's are in Yassaca) but her chemistry with Coleman and Halas has been strong, and Yassaca's tactics, while employing a different formation, meld well with Donnell's possession based play.

Strikers
Zoban Ajao - Unioneers (EUR) - 27 y/o - 60 caps - Male
Ajao has had his struggles, but finally seems to have settled into a role as the top choice striker for the Black-and-Reds. He scored 9 goals off the bench in his first season with Unioneers. With the Black-and-Reds he plays mostly as a target man, more often than not dropped the ball off or flicking it on to a teammate. As one would expect with his massive frame, he's also deadly dangerous on set pieces.
Demkjo Jzvanic - Olympic Thessia (MYT) - 32 y/o - 62 caps - Male
The Black-and-Reds' leading goalscorer returns for another swing at the world cup. Jzvanic may not quite have the endurance he did in his 20's, but he'll always be a dangerous shooter from almost anywhere within 30 yards of goal. He is constantly in motion off the ball, making sure defenders are paying close attention to him.
Lyzolda Petrov - Syneca AC - 25 y/o - 0 caps - Female
Petrov had a monster season practically out of nowhere playing alongside Mikhulat (who has retired from international football) for Syneca. She is at her best in tight spaces, making small precise moves on the ball to open space for a shot where none existed a moment ago.
Jurzse Bedesnjak - Chalesm FC - 30 y/o - 0 caps - Male
Like Petrov, Bedesnjak came almost out of nowhere to take the Superleague by storm. Apparently a change of scenery from HDC was all he needed to unlock his potential. With Chalesm, he more or less is the attack, so it will be interesting to see whether playing with higher caliber teammates increases his production, or causes him to fade into the background.
Viordar Rebljeten - Algolia AC - 26 y/o - 17 caps - Male
Rebljeten is more a center forward than a pure striker, and has been a major factor in Algolia's strong attack the past couple years, feeding passes to a pair of Nepharan strikers (first Westerlow, now Eisenhauer). While Donnell often has him at left or right forward on the lineup chart, Rebljeten tends to slide more to the inside than other wingers would, to play behind the center striker.
Kambiz Avagyan - Traal Athletics - 31 y/o - 2 caps - Male
Avagyan is a solid striker, when he is the feature for a team. With Traal, he is the primary target of nearly every cross, and is adept in the air. His numbers tend to drop significantly if his aerial service is cut off.
Mareth Erseburg - Emerald Coast - 28 y/o - 0 caps - Female
Brion Stienno - Emerald Coast - 26 y/o - 0 caps - Male
Erseburg and Stienno came out storming for Emerald Coast this year, turning what could have easily been a season spent struggling to avoid relegation into a resounding success. As the twin spearheads of the Superleague's youngest club, the two are difficult to separate on paper - they feed off each other's play so well. Even Donnell seems unable to choose between the two, and so names both to her shortlist. I'd expect her to experiment with playing the two, both separately and together, to see what they can contribute on the international stage.

Please note, player ages are extremely out of sync with my domestic seasons at the moment. During qualifying players will be 3 years older than the most recent SCFA season. Options are being considered to rectify the situation.

Manager: Bethany Donnell (BRE) Heldir Zaman (SRS)
A very down-to-earth manager who drills humility and discipline into her players, making sure they do the hard yards and don't get carried away with their status. After she was let go midway through her second year at Northern Union, the SCFA extended an offer based on the promise of her seasons spent at Pikemouth. There, she was able to build a smaller club into a consistent lower-league challenger, and was hired to do similar work with the Black-and-Reds, a task at which she has arguably succeeded. Now, however, the SCFA is no longer satisfied with incremental improvement, and if Donnell can't find a way to lift this team to actual qualification, her job could be on the line.
Zaman is a charismatic figure, and likes his teams to play what he calls "purposefully," pressing the ball forward toward the goal. He likes his team to be fluid in the attack, with players not held rigidly to certain zones of the field. In defense, he likes his teams to close down aggressively, trying to win the ball back quickly.

Banija National Team- The Kadongo Kamu

Information
Country code: BNJ
Denonym: Banijan(s)
Association: Royal Banijan Soccer Association(RBSA)
Nickname: The Kadongo Kamu
Manager: Marcus Waters, 52 years old, native of the Equestrian States. Took over the interim manager role after Matchday 9 of World Cup 80 Qualifying; became the full-time manager at the end of that World Cup Qualification campaign.
Senior Assistant Manager: Sarh Sane, 74 years old. Took over the role after Marcus Waters was named the manager. Manager for 16 seasons at Busukuma Athletic Club.
Captain: Gitonga Kahara.
Alternate Captain: Lemuel Bereket.
Home Kits: Green
Away Kits: White
Alternate: Orange

Brief National Team History
The Kadongo Kamu have played in exactly 217 games, as of the end of World Cup 82. The national team has participated in 8 World Cup Qualification campaigns(WCQ73, WCQ74, WCQ75, WCQ76, WCQ77, WCQ79, WCQ80, WCQ82) and played in the past three World Cups- World Cup 80, World Cup 81, and World Cup 82. We have also participated in Baptism of Fire 60, and been a participant in three different Cup of Harmonies(CoH 66, CoH 67, and CoH 71). In three Cup of Harmonies, Banija has never once moved past the group stage in the competition, and in their lone Baptism of Fire, they earned a lone point. In World Cup 80, Banija was eliminated in the group stages, though in World Cup 81, Banija won Group A and went to the Round of 16 before falling in extra time, on home soil, to Turori by a score of 1-1(2-1 AET). in World Cup 82, Banija won its opening game 3-1 before losing its next two games, its last one in heartbreaking fashion to Pasarga to be eliminated in the group stages.

The team has been on its best run in the last three World Cup cycles. A shocking World Cup 79 Qualification campaign saw them on the brink of qualifying, but the team simply ran out of gas and lost 4 of their final 5 matches to not make it to Ceni/Drawkland. Since then, the U21 team got 3rd place at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, and the national team advanced to the quarterfinals of AOCAF LV, AOCAF LVI, and AOCAF LVII, establishing themselves as a strong regional side, falling to the eventual champs in the latter two tournaments. They stunningly qualified for World Cup 80, after starting poorly by losing 5 of their first 9, to going unbeaten in the second half of qualifying, where they won 7 of those games. In the World Cup 80 Qualification playoffs, a 3-0 first leg victory in Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, powered the team through to their first ever appearance in the World Cup Finals, advancing to sport's pre-eminent competition 5-3 on aggregate over Mercedini. While a pair of one goal losses saw them eliminated after two games, they earned their first ever victory at the World Cup Finals in a 2-0 win over New Gazi in their final group stage game. As they hosted World Cup 81, they went directly to the tournament, and went to their first ever knockout stages, winning Group A before falling, 1-1(2-1 AET) to Turori in the Round of 16. They cruised to qualification in World Cup 82, maintaining a top two spot in their World Cup Qualification group behind Brenecia for the entirety of the World Cup 82 Qualification campaign, getting to the tournament with relative ease before bowing out in the group stages.

The World Cup 83 cycle was their strongest yet. Starting with AOCAF LVIII on home soil, co-hosted with the Commonwealth of Baker Park, the Kadongo Kamu won 6 consecutive matches to open the tournament, taking their winning streak all the way to the final. Unfortunately, they were felled, 4-2, at home to their archrivals, the Equestrian States. Co-hosting World Cup 83 as well, the Banijans made a miraclous run at the World Cup, upending 5th ranked South Covelllo on penalties, and defeating the then two-time defending world champions Vilita in the quarterfinals, before falling, 3-2, at the national stadium to Starblaydia. They added to the trophy case, however, earning a bronze medal after defeating Cassadaigua in the 3rd place playoff game.

This cycle got off to a less than ideal start, as they saw their earliest ever exit from the AOCAFs, after falling 1-0 to Ko-oren in the Round of 16 of the regional championships. They have high hopes for the upcoming World Cup.

List of National Team managers
1. Kizza Kabila(Banija). Manager for Baptism of Fire 60 and the World Cup 73 Qualification Campaign. Overall record of 0-14-1(W-L-D).

Kizza Kabila is the only Banijan to have ever managed the national team. Hired for Banija's first foray onto the international scene in this sport, his reign was universally derided as a disaster. Managing 15 games, he drew his first game in the Baptism of Fire, and not only lost the next two, he then lost ever single match in the 12 game World Cup Qualification campaign for World Cup 73, with the side only scoring 5 goals across the entire campaign. Unceremoniously fired after becoming one of few managers to go through an entire World Cup Qualification campaign without earning a single point, he, alongside the entire board of the RBSA, resigned after the last game. He was disgraced in the sport after the campaign, and, to this point, has never returned to top-level soccer.

2.Jan Cassallerus(San Llera): Hired before the start of the World Cup 74 Qualification Campaign, managed through the World Cup 77 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 27-32-16(W-L-D).

Banija put its eyes abroad, searching for a foreign manager before the World Cup 74 Qualification campaign, and found Jan Cassallerus. He is Banija's longest ever serving manager, being at the helm for four entire World Cup cycles, and being at the helm for 75 total games, a kind of longevity unheard of in the modern game, especially managing the national team. He started winning a game at the Coupe D'Esquarium, in what was known as the group of death. He was largely celebrated for bringing the team into relevancy. The expectations were through the floor, following Kizza Kabila, but he brought the team to Cup of Harmony 66 and Cup of Harmony 67, as well as advancing in Olympic Qualifying and getting third place at the United Valhaven Regional Football Championships. He was forced into retirement after the World Cup 77 Qualification campaign, when the RBSA declared bankruptcy, and could not participate in the World Cup 78 Qualification Campaign due to their inability to compensate players and staff.

3. Randolf Cherry(Drawkland): Hired before the start of the World Cup 79 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 20-24-2(W-L-D)

Randolf Cherry, after the RBSA got its act together, was hired- controversially- as the manager of the national team. Not that his own hire was controversial, it was applauded across the sports spectrum here at home. He was given a 3 cycle contract, and everyone knew what the goal was- to make the World Cup Finals at least once over the course of the contract. They understood that it would take time to climb the rankings, and they were willing to give him the leash. However, he came in a very awkward situation. Adama Sowe, the Chairman of the RBSA, allegedly first offered the job to Sarah Owens, out of the Equestrian States. Of course, it is illegal in Banija for women to coach men's professional teams, and that caused controversy. And yet, here he was- the manager of the national team.

His own home country of Drawkland is, of course, very progressive in that area, where the sport is dominated by the ladies. Regardless, he had an excellent start to his reign as a manger, and was initially extremely popular. He won his first game, in a special Eagles Club match, against Aggrey-Fynn Land. He lost his first few qualifiers, but he went on a dear through the middle of qualifying, which included a 7 game winning streak on home soil. Big wins against then 4th ranked Chromatika at home and then 32nd ranked Eshan, put them in the conversation of World Cup Qualification, though they were simply not strong enough.

The Cup of Harmony was considered a disaster, finishing in dead last in their group. The competition maybe simply isn't for the Banijans, eh? But they were strong throughout the offseason, making a surprising quarterfinal run in AOCAF LV and bringing high hopes to the squad going into World Cup 80 Qualification. Hopes were through the roof for the national team, maybe even bordering unrealistic. They struggled, and the campaign got worse as the pressure built, as the squad lost their final four qualifiers of the first half of qualifying. With the campaign seemingly in free-fall, he was fired, as the RBSA said they wanted time to conduct "an open, thorough, search."

4. Marcus Waters(Equestrian States): Hired after the 1st half of World Cup 80 Qualifying, present manager of the national team. Overall record of 95-38-22(W-L-D). All-time winning percentage of 61.29%. All-time points percentage of 66.02%.

Marcus Waters was the national team's assistant manager with Randolf Cherry above him, and the manager of the youth national teams. He first gained notoreity in Banija after successfully leading the U21 team to a 3rd place finish at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup. With his abilities clear, it made sense to move onto him as the interim manager as they searched for a permanent manager ahead of the second half of World Cup Qualifying. However, he was able to complete a stunning turnaround of this team. His first game in charge, he changed nearly the entire backline, and had a massive upset, away to Qasden, by a score of 3-2. A 3-0 victory over Razenthuria in the other mid-qualifying friendly got high hopes for him.

Marcus Waters went out with an intent to keep his team focused, despite everything going on at home. He has proven adept at navigating the political minefield that is this job, especially with his own country of origin essentially at war with Banija. He didn't lose a single game in the second half of qualifying, winning 7 games to get to the playoffs, including when the team was forced to play home games in Montreal due to ongoing violence within Banija. He was widely applauded for getting the team ready to play in Montreal, and winning 1-0 against Turori, the group's top seeded squad, and a 3-0 win in Montreal in the Qualification playoffs. While the RBSA interviewed four other candidates, his successful push through the World Cup Qualification playoffs and into Banija's first-ever World Cup Finals essentially clinched the job for him, as he put pen to paper to take the interim tag off of his title ahead of the 80th World Cup Finals.

Since then, of course, he has done a lot to garner the confidence of the higher-ups, and of the fans. Falling to the eventual champions in the quarterfinals of both AOCAF LVI and AOCAF LVII was widely seen as a positive. As well as, of course, a surprising Fourth Place finish in the Cup of Champions Six, highlighted by a surprising point earned in their matchup against Nephara, while also pushing through to the Round of 16 of World Cup 81, pleasing the home fans. A different sort of pressure faces him this campaign, however.

For the first time in his reign, you could say that Banija had a disappointing tournament, failing to advance in World Cup 82 beyond the group stages. It might be harsh to say that- on paper, advancing from a group with both Pasarga and Farfadillis is a tall order if your team is not Pasarga or Farfadillis. They responded well, however, winning six consecutive games at AOCAF LVIII, and knocking off major nations including Cosumar and Mriin at the tournament, before being felled in the final, in their own capitol of Busukuma, to Equestria. Following up with a World Cup on home soil, they continued that momentum forward from AOCAF LVIII, as the Banijans took on the role of giantslayers on home soil. They beat the 5th ranked South Covello side, and the then two-time defending world champions Vilita, before eventually falling to Starblaydia in the semifinals, though they still earned a bronze medal. Although momentum was blunted after a tough 1-0 defeat to Ko-oren that secured an early exit from AOCAF LIX, the excitement is high that he can continue to deliver the Kadongo Kamu to new heights at World Cup 84.

1. The Equestrian States. All time Banijan record against opponent- 0-6-1(W-L-T).

The Equestrian States are easily Banija's biggest rival, and by a country mile. It has all the makings of a good international sporting rivalry- plenty of matches played, history of competitive matches, geopolitical rivalry, player familiarity, and, of course, geographical proximity- all those boxes are checked. They've played each other 5 times, and Banija has come out on the losing end each and every time, most recently a 4-0 clobbering at the hands of the Equestrian States during Banija's final friendly before this qualification tournament began.

Three times have they played in competitive competition, and three times Banija has fallen. The Equestrian States eliminated Banija from Cup of Harmony 71 in group play, while also defeating the Banijans in both the opening match of World Cup 80, and the final group stage match of AOCAF LVI, though the Banijans still advanced to the quarterfinals of that tournament. The familiarity of players between each other is strong. Banija's present and most successfull all-time manager, Marcus Waters, is Equestrian. A number of players in each country play in leagues in the other. Famous Equestrian NT players like Aaron Aiza, Rosie Tyler, and Josef Lawrenz, ply their trade in the Banijan Soccer League, with Aiza particularly growing to superstar status while winning league titles at Herzegovina City FC.

Banija's first ever major final in this sport, at the senior level, was against none other than Equestria at the national stadium, with the winner to be crowned champions of AOCAF LVIII Final. In front of a decidedly pro-Banijan crowd, it was the Equestrians who dashed Banijan dreams of glory on their home turf as they picked up their first ever major international silverware, with a 4-2 victory. That victory has made the Banijans just that much hungrier to defeat their bitter rivals, and though the history is lopsided in favor of Equestria, that has just fueled the fire on this side of the matchup. The two sides co-hosted World Cup 83 together, and almost had a rematch of their AOCAF LVIII Final in the World Cup Final, though Banija could not fulfill its end of the bargain as they fell to a stronger Starblaydia side in the semifinals. Equestria, of course went on to win the World Cup, and the next AOCAF to boot, establish a fully fledged dynasty. The Banijans, in pre WOrld Cup 84 Qualification friendlies, got their first ever result against the Equestrians, a 0-0 draw in Everfree.

2. Eshan. Banijan all time record against opponent: 3-2-1(W-L-T)

Banija's other major rival is Eshan. Another regional rivalry, it doesn't carry quite the same weight as the Equestrian States, but they've played four high stakes competitive matches against each other, all in the same cycle. In World Cup 79 Qualifying, the two nations were in the same qualification group. Banija had an upset win in the first half of qualifying that vaulted them into serious discussions about making the final tournament, only to fall on the return trip, which effectively eliminated them from attending World Cup 79. And in the ensuing AOCAF LV tournament, they were drawn into the same group, and Eshan easily embarassed the Banijans, winning 5-1.

The draw did not seem to favor the Banijans, as the pair were drawn together in the ROund of 16. This time, it was the Banijans who got the last laugh. After a thrilling 4-4 draw, the Banijans won on penalties and advanced to the quarterfinals of their first AOCAF, an overwhelming success. While they have not played each other since AOCAF LV, on a competitive or on a friendly basis, the rivalry is still an important one for many fans of the Kadongo Kamu.

The rivalry was renewed when the two teams were drawn against each other in World Cup 82 Qualifying, with the pair of nations favorites to compete for the group's 2nd qualifying spot, with Brenecia widely favored to win their World Cup Qualification group. Banija won the first match in Busukuma, while they drew on the return leg, as Banija clinched the World Cup Qualification spot as Eshan did not qualify for the World Cup Finals.

Select Player Biographies

1. CAM Namakula Kawesa

Namakula Kawesa is one of the most interesting players to follow on this team. She is the first woman to ever put on the green and white for the senior national side, the first beneficiary of the repeal of the gender segregation law within the country. Implementation has been slow, as there are only a handful of female players in the BSL right now, but the rise in change of culture is always slow. Still, she has smashed that glass ceiling on her own, and Kawesa is looking to ensure that she is well respected on the national and international stage.

With her platform comes great expectation, and with great expectation comes great pressure. So far, she has been able to handle it. She scored crucial goals at AOCAF LVIII en route for the Banijan run to the final of that tournament, as she came off the bench behind Okparro. She did the same at World Cup 83, playing crucial minutes there as well. She was able to earn herself attention in the transfer market, and now she plays for the Gwinevra Barbarians. She has shown her talent for the Barbarians, scoring seven goals in the league and 11 in all competitions in her first season for the Barbarians, where she was a regular fixture in their starting XI, and helped the team get 2nd in the league and earn a Champions Cup berth, as well as scoring in the Marshall Cup Final, which is Apox's major domestic cup competition. She has performed at expectation in Apox.

And now, of course, with Okparro's retirement, she has been handed the #10 jersey for the national team. This is a big moment for her, as she is now a full-time starter for the Kadongo Kamu. It's not like the other open positions in the starting lineup, where Waters hasn't given out the #7 or #9 spot, showing that he hasn't decided on a long-term striker or right-winger- this spot is hers. Will she rise to the challenge of being the Banijan #10?

2. CB Kawsu Kaba

The center back has been excellent in his appearances for the Hoima Warriors in the BSL, with his past domestic season earning him plaudits from many around, and him just missing out on a spot on the All-Pro Team. The problem with Kaba, while extremely talented, is that, especially for hte national team, he lacks consistency. HE has been benched on numerous occasions by Marcus Waters, though he always goes back to Kaba to start a game, and play a majority of the match. Then 35 year old Center Back Abate Brehanu, however, repeatedly replaced Kaba defending big leads in big moments, illustrating the lack of the confidence in him.

But now, Brehanu has retired following the national team's bronze medals at World Cup 83, and there will be nowhere to hide for Kawsu Kaba. Ensa Camara and Brehanu have retired, and now, it will be Kaba leading the back line. The other two center backs on the roster, 19 years old Demba Kinteh and 22 year old Kuma Bultum do not have any national team experience, leaving Kawsu Kaba as the undisputed leader of the back line. How will he react to that? He is seen as the key for this new look squad. While the offense has a lot of fresh faces, the talent level is expected to be high enough that chemistry will happen naturally. The same is not true on the back end. He finally put together consistent performances wearing the jersey during this Qualifying campaign, and even notched his first career goal for the national team, leaving no doubt about his name being a fixture in the Banijan starting XI. Can he step up and help lead this team to new heights during the Finals?

3. LW Gitonga Kahara

With the retirements of Chibuzo Afolayan and Assefa Yitebarke from the national team, the boy wonder is the undisputed star of the Kadongo Kamu, and has long been hailed as the savior of the sport in this country. That tells you everything you need to know about the Boy Wonder's meteoric rise through Banijan soccer. He has been given lots of nicknames- the Boy Wonder, Banija's Football Savior, the Deliverer, etc... And he has never played a professional club game on Banijan soil. When he was just 16 years old, he moved to Project Olimpo in Kita-Hinode, and starred in their youth league, one of the world's best. Project Olimpo won a league title, and Gitonga Kahara was the star of the team, winning the Golden Boot that season. He then, of course, went to the U21 World Cup as the player everybody had their eyes on- was he the real deal?

The answer was an emphatic yes. Gitonga Kahara, and the team in general, simply could not stop scoring in Valanora. He scored a stunning 10 goals at the Di Bradini Cup- taking the tournament by storm, and being not only the best player on the pitch for the Banijans, but arguably the best player on the pitch at the tournament in general. His value, and name, exploded on the international scene. Randolf Cherry, much to the chagrin of Project Olimpo officials, was pushing him to leave before the window- see what he'd do in a top-flight league, while his value was high with the memory of the Di Bradini Cup fresh. Of course, during the window, he'd be able to probably get a better deal. But the fact of the matter was this- a move was better for his immediate career prospects, even if it was a serious question mark for his long-term career prospects.

He went to Polaris, in the Terranean League East. He helped lead his team earn the Pablito Numede Trophy, and, with a third place finish, finish with a berth in the Champions Cup. He looked likely to be a star in that league for a long, long time to come- and then, it came crashing down, as the Terrenean League East has faltered. He then made a big money move to OAS Royal FC, becoming the first ever Banijan to make an 8 digit move, being valued at $10 million NSDs by the side from Northeast Atlantian Oceania.

He is in his prime, and now, this is his team. Kahara is going to wear the armband going forward, for the first time at any level in his career. While the 23 went unchanged from the beginning of AOCAF LVIII, through the Champions Cup and all the way through World Cup 83, there has been a correction, with quite a few veterans calling it quits on their international careers, leaving time for the next generation to shine. The now dominantly all-time leading goalscorer for the national team had a disappointing exit from AOCAF LIX- but can he drop those demons and help lead the Kadongo Kamu to glory in World Cup 84?

4. CAM Sia Fall

The "do everything" man for the Kadongo Kamu, somehow, is back again. Sia Fall is a winger by trade, but in his long term of service for the national team and his time in the Banijan Soccer League, it has seen him play all over the pitch. The man who got replaced by Gitonga Kahara finds himself, once again, in the conversation for playing on the national team by again being willing to play in a position of need, the backup attacking midfielder. Many pundits agree that Fall is not on the roster for his ability with his feet, but for his veteran leadership. He is an experienced player with plenty of caps, and with a large number of veterans retiring for the Kadongo Kamu, it is unsurprising that Marcus Waters wants to bring on an extra veteran presence for a major tournament where the team has high aspirations.

He has had an interesting international journey. He has been on the scene since the national team's return to WCC competition in World Cup 79, and was an important member. However, an ACL injury towards the end of World Cup 79 Qualifying saw his starting spot taken from him, and when Gitonga Kahara burst onto the scene after a stunning Di Bradini Cup for World Cup 80 Qualifying, he was quickly made an afterthought, with the last time he made the final 23 of a national team being AOCAF LVI. However, he kept his head down and continued to work on his craft, even playing central midfield at times for his club in order to do whatever was best for them. HE has versality, and above all, the willingness to sacrifice for the best of his club. And now, when the country is short of quality attacking midfielders to back up Kawesa, he got the call.

Many years away from the national side has given him a new burst, and he is appreciative of the opportunity. However, while most observers agree that he is here for veteran leadership and stability on a young squad, he wants to play. He understands more than most how rare it is to get the opportunity to play for your country, and he wants to make the most of his return. He had a decent time coming off the bench at AOCAF LIX, and he will be called upon again in World Cup 84 Qualifying. Will he get a chance to see the pitch over what will be a long group stage campaign? Will he perform when he does get that chance? And, in his last opportunity to suit up for the national team, will he finally get a chance to lift that trophy at the end of this tournament?

Busembe, Kitara
There are three stadia that will host the national team during this World Cup cycle, and two of them are in Busukuma. The third, the following stadium, is about 45 minutes Northwest of the Busukuma. That city, of course, is Busembe. Busembe is the capitol of the Kitara Region, with nearly 300,000 people within the city limits. It is, of course, on the country's west coast- but not a port city, like Istria, Herzegovina City, or Busukuma. The city, in fact, isn't what's memorable. The reason it was chosen, of course, was because of the stadium. The Kitara Region is known as Banija's hottest region, however, and so that means expect both the temperatures and the humidity to climb very high in games that are played at The Wolf's Den.

Stadium- Tiones Lumber Field at The Wolf's Den
Image

The stadium's name pays homage to the stadium's operators, the Busembe Timberwolves of the Banijan Soccer League, and the sponsored name, the Vilitan company Tione Lumber. It has a capacity of 44,000, and hosted matches at both World Cup 81 and World Cup 83, though under its old name. It is one of Banija's most intimate stadiums, with the fans being extremely close to the field. The intimacy, as well as ease of access from Busukuma International Airport(just a 45 minute train ride to the Northwest) are some of the major reason why this stadium was chosen. The Stadium, as well as the team, is owned by Taeshani pizza company Fadron Pizza, one of three foreign owned sides in Banijan domestic football. it also doubles as a gridiron stadium for the professional gridiron team of the same name.

The RBSA, of course, is working to heavily market its member clubs, and is playing one home game at this stadium for the World Cup Qualification campaign as a way to encourage other teams to pursue foreign sponsorship deals.

Busukuma, National Capitol Region
This is the nation's capitol, located on the country's Southern coastline. Puritan Mormons believe that their God told the-then chief of the Kasanke, Kabonero III, that he should conquer all of the land that is currently Banija, gave the country it's name(therefore killing the name of the Kasanke nation), and put the capitol in the South. He did it, made Busukuma the capitol, and declared himself Banija's first Maharaja, or Emperor. As the nation's capitol for over 400 years, the city has been the spot for many major events in Banijan history, and the seat of plenty of foreign embassies, a large foreign population, and Banija's first airport.

Mugisha III Memorial Stadium
Image

A fairly new stadium built for the Busukuma Force, it is the largest club stadium in Busukuma- seating 49,000. It is generally known as one of Banija's best stadia. And yet, major tournament after major tournament, it gets passed over to host games. Why is that? The reason is simple. It is in the same city as the national stadium, and the RBSA generally prefers to spread games out. But you can't have this stadium here, and not use it. So the RBSA will use it to host a pair of World Cup Qualifiers. It is named after the late Kabaka Mugisha III, the grandfather of the current Kabaka, Mwanga, and the father of the of the previous Kabaka, Albert III.

Stadium of the Restoration
Image

The national stadium, the Stadium of the Restoration, sits 91,835. It is the country's largest soccer stadium, and, of course, it is the national stadium. On the stadium's site, in 1835, the Banijan monarchy was restored at this site in Banija's first declaration of independence from the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. When the RBSA was formed, it was the obvious site to build the national stadium. The original facility sat 69,000, and was then, as it is now, Banija's largest soccer stadium. It was home to the Banijan national soccer and gridiron teams, and hosted plenty of international tournaments, including the Finals of a UICA Globe Cup, World Bowl and a Baptism of Fire. However, the ageing facility needed to be rebuilt so that one could fit the WCC's 80,000 seater minimum requirement to host a World Cup opening match, as required when the country co-hosted World Cup 81.

The bid from AEP, an architectural firm from Siovanija & Teusland, won the bid to build a new Stadium of the Restoration on the same site in time for World Cup 81. The brand new stadium's capacity, according to the bid, is a nod to Banija's history, of the year that made the site famous in 1835. It has a retractable natural grass surface, used for soccer, and a retractable articifial turf surface, used for gridiron football and during ceremonies like coronations. There are no gaps between the stands, while the South Stand is a single tier, designed to amplify crowd noise. The stadium contains 35 suites, 1 of which is always reserved for RBSA executives, and the second always received for His Majesty, the Kabaka.

Since the rebuild, of course, it hosted both the opening match and one of the semifinals of both World Cup 81 and World Cup 83, alongside the final of AOCAF LVIII, as well as the coronation ceremony of Kabaka Mwanga and the state funeral of his father, the late Kabaka Albert III.
