“Don’t provoke the police. Don’t come over, because there are people following you and you can’t control them,” the officer said over a megaphone.

“The people who are following you have weapons. Vice-chancellor Tuan and university staff, please leave immediately, this is not a time for negotiation or dialogue.”

Police then fired tear gas and photographs showed Tuan being escorted away while pressing a mask to his face.

CUHK lecturer Leung Kai-chi said on Facebook that he was certain that nobody was throwing objects at the police when tear gas was fired.

This is what happens when you allow a group of armed authorities to act without any accountability. The government is nowhere to be seen with nothing useful to say on the matter. They are irrelevant and so the police are the authoritative force of HK.

3rd day (consecutive) work cancellation, today notified at 7 am.

It’s too dangerous for travel now.

All the traffic lights downstairs at one intersection have been smashed and several trees on the roadside have been cut down over the night.

It’s impossible to enter the local MTR without walking past a large violent mob.

The protestors have smashed the Starbucks in my neighborhood because of its “connection to China.”

Now I’m really upset

I'm pretty sure after world war 2 we said never again to death camps, genocide and rule by fear.

Why has the world not brought the Chinese government to it's knees for what it's done to Tibet, the uighur and Hong Kong?

We owe it to the people's living there.

You mean Forest City in Johor Bahru? So far, Mahathir hasn't exactly reneged on his promise to allow China to colonize Malaysia with impunity, as he has with pretty much everything else. Gotta love the international school though. I attended several of these when I was growing up in Hong Kong, except they are all privately owned and not controlled by an authoritarian government, although many ESF schools are subsidized by the HK government. Just take this school out of CCP hands and auction it off to anyone except CCP or Islamist bidders.

Things have now gotten to a point where I now believe that the entire HK government should be overthrown outright and replaced with a parallel government, police force, military and court system established by the people of Hong Kong. Any government that no longer enjoys the support of the people must be removed and replaced by force should the need arise. This is why protesters in Hong Kong wave the American flag and sing the Star-Spangled Banner, because they truly understand what revolution is and the stakes it entails. I no longer recognize the legitimacy or the authority that the present HK government has over me or the people of Hong Kong.

Carrie Lam is no longer our Chief Executive, and the HKPF has lost its mandate to enforce the very law that its serving members routinely violate with complete and total impunity. Several people, including an unmasked 15-year-old girl, have already been kidnapped, raped, tortured, murdered and their naked corpses dumped into the sea, only to be immediately cremated upon discovery by onlookers to erase any evidence of foul play. The death penalty should be reinstated for this kind of heinous crime upon Hong Kong gaining its independence from Chinese rule. Any act of resistance against the tyrannical regime of the day, whether armed or unarmed, is an entirely legitimate form of resistance, as long as innocent civilians are not the target, and so far they haven't been.

I created this puppet to represent the kind of country Hong Kong could be if the people of Hong Kong were to ever fight for and gain their independence from China (and also to have a permanent puppet in place in TNP in preparation for Z-Day 2020). In this version of Hong Kong, people have a right to bear arms, and any attempt to restrict civil or political liberties is met with an extremely harsh and very swift response from the public. A nuclear deterrent and orbital ion cannon superweapon to deter Chinese aggression are currently in the works. The link to the factbook is in the sig below.

I don't know; every time the police decide to escalate their violence, the situation becomes worse and the people lean more towards the protesters (or at least, lean against the police). I mean, it doesn't stop the police from keep escalating even more, what with almost 2,400 tear gas canisters of all kinds being deployed in CUHK yesterday alone. Then again, we also know what is the word for keep doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results.

Oh, it'll cost China a lot more than human lives, considering how much foreign investment between China and the developed world flows through Hong Kong, and is not something that can easily be replaced no matter how many times it tries to make a new financial capital in a more obedient city. If the PLA did get deployed (let alone opening fire on protesters and civilians alike), China would be betting on the flow not being disrupted despite having a massacre in the city, a big gamble especially when China is already troubled by things from the ongoing trade war to rising pork price and (purportedly) an emerging outbreak of the plague.

While CCP being what it is makes it likely that it will gamble on that to save its face and the myth of Greater China unification, this time it might just be enough that a more interconnected China would not weather it like it did 30 years ago, and that's what many of us are betting on that (or that revelation could force China to accept the demands). If not, well, at least we fought for what we believed in.

Boo fucking hoo. You know what I would do if my favorite fast food restaurant in Hong Kong, which serves my favorite dish of all time, was smashed up? I would boycott the chain, because I know that that chain is owned and run by pro-Beijing traitors and collaborators who seek to wave the white flag of surrender to the Chinese imperialist occupiers. I will NEVER be loyal toward such a vile and murderous regime, as you seem to want to be. China can get the fuck out of Hong Kong and kiss my ass, for all I care.

Tell me something, IM. If the CCP was overthrown and a new government seized power in Mainland China, would you betray the current government in order to pledge your "undying" allegiance to the new government, as Starscream would do, or would you remain loyal to the end as the leaders you admire so much are strung up on nooses in a public square and your undying loyalty meant certain death? If the Rebel nobleman you support is being overrun by the forces of the Empire and its allies, would you choose to continue siding with the rebel landlord and be killed, or betray your erstwhile faction and side with the Empire, even if it means betraying your own friends and family? That's kind of the whole point of your "moral dilemma" threads, isn't it?

When you say that you will always be loyal to the government, did you actually mean it or are you just saying that now to save your own skin? Would you only support whichever side or government you feel has the upper hand out of personal convenience, or stick with the same government through thick and thin?

Why do I get the feeling your "loyalty" is nothing more than a self-serving smokescreen?

There’s a simple way to find out. Go back and read my posts.

Eh?

The people I’ve talked to have (reasonably) blamed the protestors

They are ones doing the destroying the city (literally and metaphorically).

It makes sense

...

The sentiment at my workplace is that the prptestors are no longer worthy of support because they have resorted to violence and destruction

According to surveys done after the protests begin, though, the people you talk to belong to a diminishing minority, so maybe the problem lies in something else.

There's indeed one even if it's not yours, a shame that the government and the police's too deep in their own excrement to do so.

Edit: Congratulations, IM, schools are officially closed tomorrow.
