Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Sarenium
Character Name: Julia Gillard
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 45
Character Height: 175cm
Character Weight: 85kg
Character Position/Role/Job: U.S. Senator for Virginia
Appearance: (Photo preferred, not required)
Character State of Origin: Virginia
Character State of Residence: Virginia
Character Party Affiliation: Democrat
Main Strengths: Youthful Exuberance, Pragmatist, Grassroots Campaigner
Main Weaknesses: Unabashedly pro-choice, Appeal outside metropolitan America is limited, has no family name of her own, her husband has been accused of 'pulling the strings'.
Biography: (Minimum 2-3 paragraphs)

Sen. Gillard, born in Norfolk, VA (Jan 12, 1974) to Robert Gillard (a Navy Sailor) and Angela Bruntz(a teacher), Julia attained her BA from Harvard University having gained admission as a National Merit Student. Shortly thereafter attaining her J.D. from Harvard, she returned to Virginia working as a Junior Prosecutor in Norfolk. While in Massachusetts for her education, she had two discreet abortions in the same year, this is kept from the public as she is acutely aware of the burden this would place on her politically. At 26, she sought election as Commonwealth Attorney and was unsuccessful, despite this she successfully ran for State Senate in 2001. In the 2006 Midterms, she won the primary for Virginia's Second Congressional District and narrowly unseated the incumbent Thelma Drake by 34 votes. Her margin grew markedly in 2008 and she survived the 2010 Republican landslide. In 2013 she sought the Democratic nomination for Governor of Virginia, winning a plurality of votes. When her term as Governor ended in 2018, she announced her candidacy for United States Senator and won election to the Senate in November of 2018 with a remarkable 58% of votes cast. She left office as Governor with an approval rating of 65%.

As Governor of Virginia, she successfully lobbied for legislation introducing 'VUSE', the Virginia Universal System of Education through which the State Government would subsidize drastically, the fee for Tertiary Education for its own residents. The scheme made it possible for low-income families to send their children through the Virginia College Network at no immediate cost. For Virginia Residents, positions labeled 'Commonwealth Supported Places' were introduced, these were capped at varying Universities relative to the capacity of the institution to handle students, students would incur approximately $6,500, $8,500 or $12,500 of 'Student Contribution Debt' per year dependent on how much they were likely to earn after graduation, and would be required to repay this debt upon graduating. The system was highly successful and its provisions that required students to remain in Virginia until their entire debt was repaid ensured it provided education-based economic stimulus to the state. The legislation is rumored to be at the top of the Senator's legislative agenda in D.C. Further, as Governor in the wake of the GFC and 2008 Recession she restructured the state tax system, delivering the largest tax cuts in state history in raw dollar terms.

Her term as Governor was among the most productive in State History, passing a large number of legislative items that revitalized the State, the VPT Act, bolstered public transport access across the state, however one of her most iconic acts was 'VAHCA', which expanded Medicaid under the ACA, increased targeted Veterans Healthcare and increased funding for public hospitals and clinics through a Tobacco and Alcohol Excise. The Virginia Healthcare Act also expanded Abortion Access, permitting women to seek an Abortion on demand in the first 23 weeks, requiring that women attain the advice an referral of two doctors between the 23rd and 27th week and wholly prohibited abortions in the last 12 weeks 'unless extraneous circumstances lead to recommendation from six different doctors'. Upon leaving office she stated, "if I had a second term? I'd push for Paid Parental Leave, Ranked Choice Voting, subsidized Medication, a carbon control scheme and the legalization of Marijuana."

Her colleagues and opponents alike, describe her as a woman dedicated to 'being better off in the end'. She worked with Republicans across the state and earlier, in Congress seeking to implement her vision. Despite her illuminating legislative accomplishments as Governor, she has argued for structural change in America. Every session of Congress between 2006 and 2013 saw her push for legislation targeting gerrymandering, seeking to introduce preferential voting and as of 2017, she has publicly advocated for either the dismantling of the Electoral College or legislation altering the Reapportionment Act of 1941. In the wake of Citizens United v FEC she called it a "travesty of justice and the greatest betrayal of the American Dream since the Civil War itself".

In 2018 she was successful in winning the US Senate Election in Virginia and has been touted as 'every conservatives worst fear', she herself has resisted efforts to label her as a moderate or progressive, instead calling herself a pragmatist.

In 2000 she wed Dr. Liam Stanford, but refused to adopt his family name saying she wanted their interdependence to be personal but not in regards to nomenclature of their relationship. Her oldest child is 16, her two other children are 14 and 10 respectively. Liam was accused of being the reason why she introduced VAHCA and later, implied support for Medicare-For-All, she has personally resisted these claims calling them outrageous but nonetheless, her doctor of a husband remains accused of 'pulling the strings' and their relationship has been scrutinized heavily, she has viewed it as 'woman bashing yet again'.

Other Info: She has refused money from Super PACs for as long as they have been offered to her and in 2013 announced her gubernatorial bid would not take money from the NRA or fossil fuel companies or lobbyists. In 2016 she controversially opined that having a federal deficit doesn't matter provided that the ratio between debt and GDP shrinks, although she did clarify that she viewed a surplus as ideal during economic success but not 'an absolute necessity'.

I have read and accept the rules of the roleplay: Sarenium

Shes a bit too progressive for Virginia and she is not winning without Super Pacs.

The education agenda was a modified and renamed version of the Tennessee program, this one was just made more financially amenable. What part needs changing?

1. The second Congressional district isn't a good fit, its a center right district. Pick another district or make it more moderate
2. She won WAY too much of the vote in the Senate lower it by 5%, and her approval rating as governor is crazy high lower it by 10%.
3. VUSE is fine
4. I need to read up on Commonwealth supported places a bit to figure out how viable it is. First look though I would say it should only be available to fields with high value skills like STEM or teaching in order to get through the legislature.
5. Your Tax cut is impossible, your programs are extremely expensive and you will need to raise taxes quite a bit and would likely still be in the red
6. Abortion is stuff is fine but i wouldn't call her "Unabashedly pro choice" if she banned 3rd trimester abortion
7. Her governor term needs a weakness, she needs to have failed at something. You can let that be the massive debt and the tax increase if you wish
8. I don't get why she would be a proxy for her husband, he's a doctor and she's a politician in her own right. Its not like he was a former governor who was ineligible to run so he made her run.
9. I'd age her up 3 years she is a tad young
10. Get rid of the Super PAC refusal, you can say "after 2018 she pledged to no longer take Super PAC money" but its a new phenomenon and near impossible to make work effectively unless youre crazy well known and popular.
11. You need a new name AND character model

I believe you mean Winthrop's chief of staff, who is also her reelection campaign manager. So no, I wouldn't let Tim hire him. But he can definitely hire some of Winthrop's most senior policy advisors and legislative aides who are looking for new work.

Despite her productive and well liked term in office, she increased the state’s debt, while she has argued this is insignificant as ‘the State’s economy grew too’. Upon leaving office the projected budget for the 2019 FY was ‘back in the black’ which she has pointed to as an example of playing the long game but critics note that the projected surplus is a meek $150mn.

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Sarenium
Character Name: Jillian G. Dayton
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 48
Character Height: 175cm
Character Weight: 85kg
Character Position/Role/Job: U.S. Senator for Virginia
Appearance: (Photo preferred, not required)

Character State of Origin: Virginia
Character State of Residence: Virginia
Character Party Affiliation: Democrat
Main Strengths: Youthful Exuberance, Pragmatist
Main Weaknesses: Appeal outside metropolitan America is limited, has no family name of her own.
Biography: (Minimum 2-3 paragraphs)

Sen. Dayton, born in Norfolk, VA (Jan 12, 1971) to Robert Dayton (a Navy Sailor) and Angela Bruntz (a teacher), Jillian attained her BA from Harvard University having gained admission as a National Merit Student. In the 2006 Midterms, she won the primary for Virginia's Third Congressional District, successfully winning the open seat of Bobby Scott. Her margin grew markedly in 2008 and she survived the 2010 Republican landslide. In 2013 she sought the Democratic nomination for Governor of Virginia, winning a plurality of votes. When her term as Governor ended in 2018, she announced her candidacy for United States Senator and won election to the Senate in November of 2018 with a remarkable 53% of votes cast. She left office as Governor with an approval rating of 55%.

VUSE steered prospective graduates towards STEM subjects, earning her criticism as ‘ending the arts’. The system was highly successful and its provisions that required students to remain in Virginia until their entire debt was repaid ensured it provided education-based economic stimulus to the state. The legislation is rumoured to be at the top of the Senator's legislative agenda in D.C. Further, as Governor in the wake of the GFC and 2008 Recession she restructured the state tax system raising taxes on all income earned over $10,000.
I'd push for Paid Parental Leave, Ranked Choice Voting, subsidized Medication, a carbon control scheme and the legalization of Marijuana." Despite her productive and well liked term in office, she increased the state’s debt, while she has argued this is insignificant as ‘the State’s economy grew too’. Upon leaving office the projected budget for the 2019 FY was ‘back in the black’ which she has pointed to as an example of playing the long game but critics note that the projected surplus is a meek $150mn.

Other Info: In 2013 her gubernatorial bid would not take money from the NRA, fossil fuel driven companies or lobbying firms. In 2016 she controversially opined that having a federal deficit doesn't matter provided that the ratio between debt and GDP shrinks, although she did clarify that she viewed a surplus as ideal during economic success but not 'an absolute necessity'. This opinion was expressed at the same time as the introduction of her state VAT which earned her criticism as a ‘tax and spend’.

She's still a bit too successful, also no way you have a surplus. Virginia is not getting out of the red anytime soon with those expenditures

The Unemployment Rate being below 4% March of 2017 coupled with her VAT, it could be argued strong spending + her tax increases from before have led to a meager surplus. Not to mention, it would be a generously predicted surplus 'if all the pieces fell in place the right way etc' and the repayment of debt for students that used VUSE would begin from 2019 since the first lot of graduates under the scheme would be getting injected into the labour stream. I would argue being 'in the black' isn't a surefire surplus and it'll almost likely end in a deficit but a small one nonetheless.

Firstly your gender is wrong in the OP
Secondly lets list everything you are spending money on
1. Massively subsidized higher education
2. Increased Public Transportation
3. Medicaid Expansion

Plus you increased taxes which will hurt economic growth and jobs in the state, so those graduates you subsidized aren't going to have as many jobs. The Medicaid expansion alone would require a MASSIVE tax increase, frankly a huge increase is impossible in Virginia with a Republican Majority in both houses.

She took no pro growth economic measures as governor and therefore shouldn't have a good economy. Look right now she has a good record, she will be well regarded by the democrats BUT their is no way it comes without a cost.

Much better, dont name her successor because the governor of VA could easily be a player character. Just say "her successor" not "Her successor Lt Gov..." otherwise good stuff. I'm going to ask the other admins to take a look because its a long resume, but tentatively I will recommend the app be accepted.

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Grater Tovakia
Character Name: Jack Perry
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 50
Character Height: 6 feet, 2 inches
Character Weight: 175
Character Position/Role/Job: National Security Advisor
Appearance: Image

Character State of Origin: Connecticut
Character State of Residence: Maryland
Character Party Affiliation: Republican
Main Strengths: Calm under pressure, knowledgeable about Military and Foreign matters, likable
Main Weaknesses: Poor Liar, not great at hiding his emotions, quickly becomes belligerent in almost any field when opposed
Biography: Jack was born in 1958 to a middle-class Irish family in New London Connecticut. His mother stayed at home, while his father worked as a civilian contractor at the local Submarine base. From a young age, Jack loved to watch the news at night and quickly gained a rapid understanding of the world around him. Up until the age of 12 Jack’s dream job was to become a lawyer, however, one night changed all of that. Jack’s father had served in WW2 for the navy at almost every major battle in the Pacific theater, that Christmas eve Jack’s father decided to unload on the young boy his many sea stories and Jack was hooked. From that point on Jack Perry’s sole goal was to receive a commission from the United States Naval Academy, a goal which would become reality on May 24, 1980, when Jack Perry was commissioned into the United States Navy.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Jack chose to serve with the Silent Service during the height of the Coldwar, he rose rapidly through the ranks and the word going around the fleet was that Jack was on a fast-track to receive his own Submarine command. However, fate had other ideas. On June 20th, 1985 Jack was on his way home after a two-month deployment when a drunk driver hit his car at 60MPH. The impact crushed Jack’s right leg and gave him a permanent limp as well as required Jack to have over 15 surgeries performed to save the leg, most devastating of all however was that the Navy was forced to Medically discharge Jack ending his military career for good. Jack then moved from Military Contracting Job to Military Contracting Job where he earned a sizeable amount of money but remained unhappy. In 1987 Jack, upon request from an Admiral Friend of his, joined the CIA as an analyst on Soviet Naval operations, he quickly rose through the ranks. With the Fall of the Soviet Union, however, Jack left the CIA to go work for a think tank in Washington where he remained until September 11th when he was desperately asked to come back as deputy director of intelligence after the previous DDI resigned. In 2008, Jack again went back to the private sector, this time however to Academia where he remained up until a few months ago when President Wolf’s chief of staff asked Jack to become the new National Security Advisor.

Other Info: Jack is married with three kids, his wife Anna is a professor at the war college on Ethics on the battlefield. Her and Jack met in Annapolis when Jack was a midshipman. His three children, John, Dean, and Kate very in ages with the oldest (John) in college while the other two are in Highschool. Jack writes for the US Naval Institute in his spare time and also loves to golf.

Also, I am well aware that the focus of this RP is that of domestic policy and I hope not to stray to far away from the goal of this whole RP. The reason I wish to be the national security advisor is that personally I would like to see how the role of the Nat Sec Advisor would change when a President comes out as having an ailment like Brain cancer. There is also the fact that some of Jack's friends would LOVE to see him as president which in Jacks's mind will never happen.

Okay I read Tom Clancy books, taking inspiration is one thing but you are basically following Jack Ryan's career beat for beat. Thats not okay

I will change it because I don't want to make this into a huge thing, but clearly you must have not read the books very well :p .

My Character is HEAVILY inspired by Jack Ryan in many ways and I concede the point, their career paths are somewhat similar especially there careers post the accident. However, the place in which they differ the most (and is arguably the most important) is their experience. By Debt of Honor, where Ryan becomes the National Security Advisor, he is an experienced individual who has a wealth of knowledge in economics, CIA fieldwork, politics, and the military. My character would have anything but that, did Perry serve in the Navy and CIA during the cold war? Yes, he DID NOT, however, engage in any events remotely like what Ryan experienced. Jack Perry has never seen combat, done CIA fieldwork, battled Washington bureaucrats, or had to interact with politicians on any significant level before. Jack Perry is a politician's choice because on paper he looks good and thats about it. While he can adapt quickly, he is for all intents and purposes a fish out of the water should he ever have to testify before congress.

So to sum this up, Jack Ryan has both Book and Street smarts (and experience) whereas Jack Perry is relatively naive and inexperienced. On top of this Jack Ryan is an example of a virtuous character in literature whereas I planned for Jack Perry to be a much more continent (in a virtue ethics sense lol), generally speaking, he means well as generally will make the right decisions but he is slowly going to be eaten alive by the system.
