There are few monarchies I'd never wish to be restored. The Qajars in Persia and the Bourbons (and that's just the Bourbons, not the Orleans cadet branch) in France being the most prominent. Ethiopia, in my opinion, was at its best when it had its Emperor.

A united Iraqi, Jordanian, and Hejazi state ruled by the Hashemites could have been an interesting state in the Middle East. I wouldn't say the Hashemites deserve to rule the Peninsula any more than the Sauds do, however.Salus Maior wrote:North German Realm wrote:There are few monarchies I'd never wish to be restored. Yes, I think there are a number of clearly unworthy royal lines (although I don't think all the Bourbons were that bad, Zita Bourbon-Parma was a pretty great Empress-consort to Karl Habsburg).

And? There is no such thing as "usurping" in international relations. Saudis and Hashemites fought, Hashemites were the clear inferior as the only reason they even survived long enough to be annexed by the Saudis was Ottoman (and later British) intervention. I mean, I hate the Saudis as much as the next guy, but "usurping" doesn't make sense when it's about war between two sovereign states.Salus Maior wrote:North German Realm wrote:A united Iraqi, Jordanian, and Hejazi state ruled by the Hashemites could have been an interesting state in the Middle East. The Sauds are usurpers, the Hashemites were the protectors of Mecca and Medina for centuries. I think that gives them enough right, plus the Hashemites aren't Wahabi.

And the Hashemite claim to Mecca was officially overturned in the Islamic Conference of 1925 though. The legitimacy of Hashemite rule of Hejaz solely relied on their vassalage to the Khadim al-Ḥaramayn as the concept of Sharif (being related to Muhammad) doesn't actually give people the right to rule in Islamic theology.Salus Maior wrote:North German Realm wrote:And?
