I may return for somewhat longer than I was initially expecting. Why am I here? No idea whatsoever. I really ought to find some way out of this place.

Also, the NS stats don't reflect my RL views, just to clarify.

It'd be interesting to see what the result would be of making national focus trees based on our ideologies.

A united Iraqi, Jordanian, and Hejazi state ruled by the Hashemites could have been an interesting state in the Middle East. I wouldn't say the Hashemites deserve to rule the Peninsula any more than the Sauds do, however.

The Sauds are usurpers, the Hashemites were the protectors of Mecca and Medina for centuries. I think that gives them enough right, plus the Hashemites aren't Wahabi.

And? There is no such thing as "usurping" in international relations. Saudis and Hashemites fought, Hashemites were the clear inferior as the only reason they even survived long enough to be annexed by the Saudis was Ottoman (and later British) intervention. I mean, I hate the Saudis as much as the next guy, but "usurping" doesn't make sense when it's about war between two sovereign states.

Legitimism is really only believing that certain royal lines have a valid claim to the monarchy. That's the most basic of the basic of monarchism.

This would be a valid belief if monarchies hadn’t changed hands dozens of times.

Sure, but how many of those lines that have held the throne are still alive?

And the Hashemite claim to Mecca was officially overturned in the Islamic Conference of 1925 though. The legitimacy of Hashemite rule of Hejaz solely relied on their vassalage to the Khadim al-Ḥaramayn as the concept of Sharif (being related to Muhammad) doesn't actually give people the right to rule in Islamic theology.

Which kind of makes illegitimate any monarchy that didn’t have the throne from the start.

All the monarchies are related though, because its chosen by relation to who had the throne last.

For instance, the English throne has been through multiple Houses, but even today Queen Elizabeth can trace her ancestry back to King Alfred the Great of Wessex.

So in a sense, Queen Elizabeth's line has held the throne from the start. Even if it isn't a direct line.
