Think it depends on how much you intend it to penetrate because if, say, someone were to put a bunch of mana into a shield, it might seem kinda cheap if a 20-25 mana attack can almost always penetrate it.

The intention was to penetrate "most" things. I'd consider high mana magical shields to be excluded from the definition of "most" generally.

It's accepted with the cost at 25 then.

Tia

Name: Tia (?)
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: ???
Build: 6'2", 197 lbs
Species: Minor Demon

Magic Category/Categories: Presumed Infernal, Psychic

Mana Count: ???

Known Spells/Abilities: ???

Equipment: N/A

Biography: Her true identity unknown to most people and her activities remaining in the shadows, the minor demon known as Tia is a specialist of operating in plain sight and masking her demonic presence, focusing less on overt combat magic and more on magic that allows her to work subtly like this, staying under the radar and manipulating from behind the scenes rather than overtly. However, interestingly enough, it's hard to read her motives as she seems to behave altruistically at times, using her magic to help others with their problems - problems she often identifies using her psychic magic. This help, though, tends to come at some kind of a cost... Whether or not this help is worth it in the end is entirely up for debate and depends on the perspective of the person accepting it.

That's already concluding/concluded. It's for the magical combat team which is a side thing that's basically a sports team that competes in, well, magical combat against other schools for sport.

SANTA MARINA HUNTER ACADEMY - STUDENT FILE
The following file has been approved for viewing by APPROVED PERSONNEL.

Daniel Smith

Name: Daniel Smith (refers to self as 'Daniel' or 'Danny')
Appearance: Direct attempts to capture visual likeness have been unsuccessful. Presents as a British male with a tanned complexion. Eyes are listed under blue, however some report alternative coloration of the iris varying on Lunar phase. Length of hair is short, but varies by Lunar phase. Hair color is brown, but changes in intensity and shine by Lunar phase.
Image

Gender: Male
Age: Subject appears to be aged roughly twenty years, however time frame spent in [REDACTED] is unknown
Build: Subject is 70.1 cm tall and weighs 70.4 kilograms
Species: Human

Magic Category/Categories: Enchantment/Runic, Psychic/Mental

Mana Count: 150

Known Spells/Abilities: While having inherently no immediate means of utilizing magic, Subject is known to be able to create runes of an unknown Fae dialect which draw the appropriate amount of mana from his body for use. It is believed that Subject learned of this runic language and its effects at some point during time spent in [REDACTED]. Runes show some potential for utilizing mana from alternative sources, but cannot retain use once ink has set for longer than a single night.
Runes will dissipate upon contact with significant magical forces, physical disruption, iron, or moonset.
  • Minor Focus Trap (20): Subject creates a line of four interlocking runes. Interacting with the runes physically is known to cause minor confusion and disorientation.
  • Minor Charm Spell (20): Subject creates a line of four interlocking runes. Interacting with the runes physically is known to cause minor release of Serotonin and Dopamine in the Hypothalamus.
  • Minor Comprehension Spell (20): Subject creates a line of four interlocking runes. Interacting with the runes physically is known to cause an increase in synaptic connections for a brief time, heightening mental recall and neuroplasticity.
  • Minor Strength Enchantment (20): Subject creates a line of four interlocking runes. The runes interact with an item they are placed upon, passively strengthening the item against physical damage.
  • Minor Lockpick Spell (20): Subject creates a line of four interlocking runes. The runes interact with an item they are placed upon, releasing mechanical tension in the item immediately. Can be used to undo some forms of mechanical padlocks and security locks.
  • Minor Locking Spell (20): Subject creates a line of four interlocking runes. The runes interact with an item they are placed upon, locking mechanical components in place. Can be used to lock or close otherwise unsecured doors or objects.
  • Strength Enchantment (40): Subject creates a cross of two lines of four interlocking runes. The runes interact with an item they are placed upon, actively strengthening weakened items, and increasing the protective value of certain items.
  • Focus Enchantment (40): Subject creates a cross of two lines of four interlocking runes. The runes interact with the wearer of an item they are placed upon, actively increasing their mental fortitude and resisting psychic effects that are targeted against them.
  • Contact Confusion Enchantment (80): Subject creates a closed square of four lines of four interlocking runes on a selected item. Interacting with the item physically is known to cause noticeable impairment of mental faculties, nausea, and confusion.
Passive Magical Negation (Determinate): Subject is passively capable of creating a negation effect upon all external enchantment/runic and psychic/mental magics. Mana directed at the subject of the selected forms will immediately be countered by a mana-surge of the same magnitude when possible. This effect is as of yet un-controlled and will actively attempt to deplete all mana reserves in the subject's body. If the mana surge cannot match the mana used in the attack, it will fail and the Subject will fall under the effect of the spell as though it were not blocked at all. It is believed this effect is caused by a Fey rune, of the same dialect catalogued by the subject, located upon the back of the subject's neck. It cannot be surgically removed or affected and is likely an indicator-type rune, rather than an command-type rune.
Passive Runic Recall (Determinate): Subject is passively capable of recalling runes of the unknown Fey dialect and transcribing them into a hand-drawn medium. They can then be powered by mana and will take on magical properties as found appropriate. Mana expenditure during this process will determine the cost of the rune in later uses.

Equipment: Subject wears a simple leather jacket which is often imbued with the runes of choice for the day. Keeps a notebook on hand with a pen that uses non-metallic inks for attempts at creating new runes. Often stows away into a canvas satchel. Wears a pair of khaki trousers and a polo. No known magical possessions or weapons.

Class: 1st Year

Nationality: British-Irish

Hometown: Unknown

Sexuality: Straight

Personality: Upon recovery three years ago, Smith has tremendously improved in social disposition. Overall friendly and willing to work with others, he is insatiably curious and constantly looks to research the Fey and non-human species in the world. In spite of condition, subject retains focus on completing studies, becoming a Hunter, and accomplishing multiple short and long-term goals. Can best be described as driven and motivated, socially extroverted, but additionally socially inept due to lack of modern social cues. Suffers from occasional bouts of temper and lack of confidence due in part to condition. Can be expected to react negatively in regards to persons of close affiliation with the Fey, likely due in part to condition as Smith expresses no logical reasoning for the sentiment.

Biography: Daniel Smith was recovered in August of 2017, wandering an undisclosed National Park in North America. He had no prior knowledge of who he was, where he had come from, or where he had been going prior to recovery. He was noted as having a strong Irish accent, an outdated vocabulary, and exceedingly long hair, toenails, and fingernails. He was wearing only a pair of threadbare slacks and a button-up shirt of unknown make or manufacture. Testing positive for being under the influence of an unknown magic after repeated attempts to take distinguishable photographs of him failed. Photographs presented to subjects at a later date stated that while they depicted a man present, they could not recognize or associate the picture with Smith upon personal contact. It is believed that a Fey magic of unknown origin is continuously generating an anti-memetic effect on visual media depicting himself for likewise unknown reasons. He was eventually determined to be not a threat to himself or others and was given a means to start a life in the United States under supervision from a government agency that monitored individuals of such report.

Approximately 2 weeks post-recovery, he began complaining of frequent migraines of increasing scale until he was admitted after collapsing in a public area. Upon waking, he began to draw and catalogue runic symbols of an unknown Fey dialect. Since then, he has written and catalogued over forty runic symbols, of which only nine have manifested effects. Upon being informed of basic magical concepts and ideas, he was able to name nine of the runes which have since been activated. It is unknown to what extent the runes he has currently catalogued can be powered, but initial experimentation show each requiring large amounts of mana expenditure to use. Experts believe this is due to the inefficiency of a Human using Fey runic magic. Additional effects have been discovered, likely due to the extreme effects that his experience with Fey magic brought, that include extreme resilience and negation of psychic/mental magic and enchantment/runic magic. Upon learning of the Hunters' Association in 2018, he immediately began the admissions process, but was originally turned down for lack of proper magical aptitude. He was finally accepted in Spring of 2020 upon completion of the application process.

I've just realized there's an unsettling amount of Fey in the specific area around Danny-boy. About how many students are present at the Academy and more importantly, what's the ratio of Fey to everyone else?

I think he's the only one so far. As for total students, TBA, I'm adding some NPC ones soon to help with stuff like filling certain classes.

My character was also raised by the Fey, and Artik applied for an actual Fairy (has his application been denied, or was it just missed?).

I think we were working out one or two things with the magic still.

Alright, I think I fixed the magic. Also made Callum's crossbow into a SMG, because why not.

SANTA MARINA HUNTER ACADEMY - STUDENT FILE
The following file has been approved for viewing by APPROVED PERSONNEL.

Sean Taylor

Name: Sean Taylor
Appearance:
An unremarkable asian american bordering on handsome, rather scrawny and pale

Gender:
Age: 18
Build: 6'1, 130 lbs
Species: Human

Magic Category/Categories: Lighting

Mana Count: 150

Known Spells/Abilities:Shocker: Sean grips a target, hitting them with the force of an average stungun (20 mana)
Bolt: A more ranged version of Shocker, Sean fires a lightning blast up to 30 feet with the force of a stungun. Basic insulation and magic armor will usually block this (25 mana)
Beeg bolt: A bigger, badder version of bolt capable of overcoming all but the strongest of insulation and more advanced magical armors (40 mana)
How does this even work?: Sean electrifies a piece of metal with a Shocker spell. However, instead of immediately dissipating as electricity normally would, it remains at full charge in the metal for roughly 3 minutes (25 mana)
Here comes the storm: Sean fires a bolt, with the added twist that it can jump between up to 3 targets (45 mana)
F**k you in particular: Usually used as a desperate last resort, Sean calls on the full strength of a lightning bolt to strike down one guy he really doesn't like. Can only be used outdoors (125 mana)

Equipment: 1x combat knife
1x nail hammer
1x AK 47

Class: First year

Nationality: American

Hometown: Detroit

Sexuality: Bi

Personality: Stone. Cold, detached. Lonely. Perhaps a slight overstatement of Sean's personality, but not particularly far off. Still, he understands the value of teamwork, and is acutely aware of his own limitations, which he is deeply insecure of.

Biography: Sean was always an average kid. Sure, he might've lived in a shittier part of Detroit, one where gunfire and car alarms weren't uncommon, but he still lived the best life he could, under the circumstances. Helpful, brave, maybe a little reckless. All words that the other kids and even some adults would use to describe him. Until he came home from school, the tender age of 15, to an armed robbery, and watched his father take a bullet or ten to the chest. The killer made off with all of 15$, and Sean's dad bled out on the floor before an ambulance arrived. The cops came, sure, but they were a little busy with other things to track down another junkie who got a little more desperate than usual. So, Sean took things into his own hands.

See, Sean had a good memory for faces. He remembered almost every little detail about this guy, from the little jagged scar under his bright green right eye, to the mole on his rather weak chin. He also had the unique knowledge of a boy raised in the worst part of town as to where the worst kind of people hung out. He figured a junkie willing to kill for 15$ ranked among them. He "borrowed" a gun from someone who was once his friend, and started his search for vengeance. In the mean time, he put time in at the range, where an old man befriended him. Maybe he saw something in Sean that he'd had when he was younger, maybe he just thought Sean would benefit from some tips on his shooting, either way, the old man inadvertently saved his life. The old man, you see, had heart disease that was just waiting to strike. One day, the sound of gunfire must've been too much for him, and he slipped into cardiac arrest, right on the floor in front of Sean. Watching the sadly familiar scene of a father figure dying on the floor, something in him snapped open. He knelt down next to the old man, put his hands on his chest, and to Sean's wonder, they started sparking, stabilizing the old man's heart just enough to give the paramedics time to get there. And Sean learned to very important things that day. One, he was a walking, talking battery, and two, he didn't have it in him to take a life. And so, he searched for an outlet for his newfound magic.

At first, he stuck in Michigan for his search, but he quickly moved his search outwards, until he found the Santa Marina academy. He isn't quite sure why he picked it (when asked, he'll just say he liked the name best), but in the end, he ended up enrolled there. His mother seeing him off, he boarded the plane to Florida. And the rest, they say, is history.

Magic looks fine.

Other than that the bio should probably be more detailed, it's slightly on the short side but more importantly than that tells us more about things that happened to him than who he actually is.

Combat team tryout results for you thirsty mage boys. Don't feel bad if your character didn't make it, sport magic isn't the main plot of the RP and you might have just not fit the specific skillset it requires, which is a different one from general strength.

Active Lineup
Archie Lawson
Bu Liao
Victoria Fawn
Candace Marin
Olympia Galatas
Samuel Sevilia
Freya Jung
Viktor Farkas

Reserve
Collin de Haas
Vivian Shaw
Tristan Glesbrecht
