If climate change is as bad as the most alarmist people say, then we really are already fucked. We should be funding research into post-societal collapse contingencies.

Now, apparently, the median income in Sweden is USD 31, 287 a year.
There’s no actual definition of Uber rich-it’s a subjective term. However, a “supreme example” would probably require being a billionaire-neither of which Greta’s parents are.

Before banking, I worked in wealth management. The official term was "ultra high net worth individuals" (UHNWI). I meant anyone with at least $10mm of liquid net worth (i.e. not tied up in their house or buried treasure).

Thank you for bringing some clarification. But her parents don’t make that, either.

Honestly, why even keep this pretense anymore? In a few months, some new kid is going to be in the news for having a political hot take (be it right-wing or left-wing), and the opposing side will be brutally smearing them. It's a part of life and we can at least get memes from it.

However 'usual' it might be for this era, smearing is not a good thing.

Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old girl selected by the media to be the poster child of climate alarmism, gave another hysterical speech on Monday. This time, at the U.N., she declared that the Earth is undergoing a “mass extinction” which, she warns, probably cannot be averted.

“How dare you,” the distraught teen cried. “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood.” On one level, I can relate to this sentiment because it’s exactly what I said after watching the “Lion King” remake. On another level, as a parent, I find this girl very hard to watch. It is obvious that she really believes her delusional doomsday fantasies. That is because they are not her fantasies — she is merely repeating what she has been told by adults who know better.

Thunberg, as the media likes to remind us, is autistic and OCD. This section of a Daily Beast profile gives us a brief outline of her psychological issues:

But thanks to the formal diagnosis of Asperger’s syndrome coupled with high-functioning autism and obsessive compulsive disorder, the now-16-year-old Swede has become quite literally the poster child for the generation that will have to deal with the destruction of our planet. Once she started receiving multifaceted treatment, Thunberg was able to channel her anxiety into something we should all be concerned about: The health of the planet and the science behind apocalyptic warnings of its demise.

In October 2018, Thunberg started having anxiety-ridden 3 a.m. nightmares, but unlike before, they were not about her. The recurring nightmares were about the impact of global warming on the planet, according to the book, Scenes From the Heart, she wrote with her parents and sister Beata, who also suffers from many of the same emotional conditions.

This time, instead of holing up in her bedroom as she did before treatment, she decided that her anxiety about the climate needed to become everyone else’s, too. One of the aspects of her complicated diagnosis is obsession. Her family says she just wouldn’t let the idea go that the planet was burning up and there was ample science to prove it.

The Daily Beast recounts all of this like we shouldn’t be concerned. But what we’re being told is that an obsessive, mentally troubled young girl came to believe — mistakenly — that the apocalypse is upon us. Rather than calm these terrible fears, and redirect her in a healthier direction, the adults in her life have only encouraged her paranoia. And now the media is only too happy to exploit her fear in order to stoke even more fear. Creating fear with fear. That is the media’s specialty.

This is child abuse. If any grown up in Thunberg’s life really cared about her psychological and emotional well-being, they would sit her down and explain that climate change is not going to destroy human civilization. Yes, the climate is changing. Climates tend to do that. But whatever role humans play in that process, and to whatever degree, it is not going to result in the end of all life as we know it. Talk of a 10-year, or 12-year, or 20-year, timeline before planetary catastrophe is all an invention of politicians and media personalities. Scientists don’t speak this way.

One thing, the author is a horrible parent if they deny climate change. Second, their lack of education on the matter makes this article sickening. Right-Wing Media is starting to form this narrative to protect oil companies and actually abuse children by not saving their futures.
This is disgusting and shows how morally bankrupt much of the right wing media and climate change deniers are.
EDIT: As a autistic person with possible OCD myself, it is fucking disgraceful to read this.
EDIT2: I will note that what she goes through is disturbing but to call it child abuse to tell her about climate change...Is fucked up.

Quote I agree with on this:

Torrocca wrote:Ah, gotta love that spineless """morality""". You know your ideology's depraved as hell when you've gotten to the point where you're gaslighting and publicly harassing a child for the most heinous crime of wanting to protect our one and only planet from environmental collapse. At least equally depraved - if not moreso - is how some of these fuckers have had the gall to insinuate that raping a child is morally equivalent to a child speaking out about climate change.

I find the source disgusting. And I'm right wing.

Yup. People with at least $1,000,000 in liquid net worth but less than $10,000,000 in liquid net worth were called "high net worth".

There is a category for $500k to $1,000,000 but I forgot what It was.

I agree, but the girl lashing out at the guy who said "we fucked you over and will just keep doing that because fixing it is beyond our ability" is understandable.

It is in fact worrying that there are kids who do not respond this way.

hmmm. i said she was a puppet for her parents. she espouses the views that have been indoctrinated into her. we're all indoctrinated by our parents and you certainly don't become independent from their influence at 16. she's still being raised.

i didn't mean that they literally planned for her to become a global phenomenon. i just thinks it's a likely possibility that she is just a mouth piece for them because almost any political view seems to somehow be more compelling to the normal person when it's espoused by a child.

In the day and age of the internet any kid that actually espouses their parent's views word for word is probably a complete moron or stunted somewhat.

A 2017 study led by Radboud University's Hans de Kroon indicated that the biomass of insect life in Germany had declined by three-quarters in the previous 25 years. …As of 2019, 40% of insect species are in decline, and a third are endangered”

“The direct killing of megafauna for meat and body parts is the primary driver of their destruction, with 70% of the 362 megafauna species in decline as of 2019.”

“According to the WWF's 2016 Living Planet Report, global wildlife populations have declined 58% since 1970, primarily due to habitat destruction, over-hunting and pollution. They project that if current trends continue, 67% of wildlife could disappear by 2020.[136][137] In their 2018 report, the WWF found that overconsumption of resources by the global population has destroyed 60% of animal populations since 1970,”

“The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) characterises 'recent' extinction as those that have occurred past the cut-off point of 1500,[145] and at least 875 species have gone extinct since that time and 2012.”
