Fullhorn Fighters: National Cup Champions!
After a long season playing in a weak Western Conference, it seemed from the start that either Snostad or Chorsbar would be taking home the championship. Both teams were considered by sportswriters to be the greatest in Rusticus based on their previous years as independent teams. Indeed they were the best in their conference, with Snostad proving to be the better in a 4-2 conference final win. Snostad also won the Alfredsson Trophy with 140 goals for, as well as captain Albert Olsson winning the Jacobson Trophy. Meanwhile, coming out of the weaker Western Conference was Fullhorn with a 4-1 series win over Les Rogues. Now playing in an organized league for the first time, clear weaknesses were exposed. With the help of Boehler Trophy winning goalie Matthäus Weigand, Fullhorn allowed just 2 goals in the first 3 games of the National Cup Final. However, an illness caused Weigand to sit out the next two games, in which Snostad outscored Fullhorn 8-1. Weigand returned in a 1-0 Game 6 loss which sent the series from a 3-0 Fighters lead to a decisive Game 7. In Game 7, Snostad took an early 1-0 lead, and held that lead until an own goal by defenseman Giordano Carter tied the game in the 2nd period. Six minutes into the 3rd period, Max Oursler scored what would be the game-winning goal. The Fullhorn Fighters defied the odds and upset the Snowfoxes to win the inaugural National Cup.
