TYPE 7 CHU - SAM is medium range surface to air missile system (SAM) developed by Tsukumo heavy industries, described by the designer as "kill all in one" for it's capacity to engage almost any target on the battlefield - including fixed wing aviation, rotary aviation, UAVs, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and others. Mounted on hull of Type 52 vehicle, Type 7 Chu-SAM is fully capable of shooting on the move and and defending large troop concentrations from almost any threat encountered on the modern battlefield.

NOTE TO CUSTOMERS: Type 5 can integrate wide variety of radars, command posts and axillary devices. In addition, It is possible to mount the turret on multiple vehicles depending on client's preference, apart from standard Type 52 series. In such case client should deliver such vehicles or pay for them separately.



Missile

Type 7-14 surface to air missile is the major component of Type 7 Chu-SAM. Each transported erector launcher (TEL) contains six missiles packed in containers, which simplifies logistics.

Type 7-14 is 580 centimeters long and weights 800 kilograms in ground launched variant with warhead alone having weight of 60 kilograms in said version. Attached to the main, circular body of the missile produced from graphite polyimide composites, are four aft antisymmetric inlets powering four liquid - fuel ramjets providing it propulsion during the flight, after the initial booster stage, with the solid fuel booster occupying most of the lower part. Full integration of the ramjet inlets into the airframe successfully ensures that the ramjet inlets won't interrupt with the warhead and reduces weight of the missile. Total of six yaw to turn flight control surfaces were mounted on the body - two pairs at the rear, and four additional smaller pairs above the ramjet inlets. At the front is a cone shaped dome, crafted out of zinc sulfide, providing all crucial sensors housed inside with proper dielectric constant and protection from traverse strength and rain erosion needed for multi spectrum seeker housed inside. The dome houses the missile's seeker and electronics.

To decrease the cost of the munition, various new techniques were used, such as ceramic tooling which allows to produce the entire airframe as single cast. Crew of the Murakami Electronics did everything in their power to lower the amount of parts located inside the missile to needed minimum, thus increasing reliability and simplicity of the design - which included casting entire airframe as a single cast, or using low - cost but reliable commercial parts for several elements, such as guidance, control or engine. This unique combination severely decreases costs of maintenance.

Propulsion is provided by solid fuel hybrid rocket / ramjet engine composed of four major parts: ramcombustor, nozzleless booster, interstage and the sustain gas generator. This hybrid engine retains speed conservation characteristics of ramjet while reducing it's dependency on air.

Those engines allow the missile to reach speed of Mach 4.6 and engage targets as far as 80km and minimum range of 2,5km, with maximum attitude being 35km and minimum being 15 meters - allowing Type 7 to attack ground targets at the edge of firing zone while maneuvering to up to 30G. 60kg blast fragmentation warhead detonated by radar proximity fuse is responsible for destruction of the target. Probability of intercept for fighters is 91%, tactical ballistic missiles 70%, cruise missiles 80%.

Responsible for tracking the target is Murakami electronics F871 active homing seeker fitted with inertial mid-course datalink. F871 is capable of acquiring 4m2 RCS target and actively guiding the missile on target. Another option is Type 7-14IR missile featuring dual band IRST (infra-red search and track) to survive in high density jamming / ECM (electronic counter measure) environment.

Radars


Used for Engagement and Fire Control is Ta - Chi 1 Model 21 Mark 4, an X - band PESA radar with addition of IFF, optical tracker control the missile firing and grant the vehicle's operators limited search & acquisition capability. Possessing ±60° tracking coverage, the radar moves alongside the vehicle's turret and is mounted at front, facing the same direction as missiles. During the tests it was proven that Ta - Chi 1 Model 21 Mark 4 can detect a fourth generation fighter at range of 110 kilometers, and successfully track four targets at range of 100 km. The radar operates along the TEL itself, moving alongside it and providing it with capability to have it's own fire control radar, making the unit' s radar capabilities far harder to neutralize. The radar is mounted on fully rotary turret.

Ta - Chi 7 Model 2 "Skyeye" 3D target search is one of two engagement / target search radars within every battery of Type 7. "Skyeye" is a 3D, solid state radar operating on L - band with Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) in elevation, fully suitable for use against multitude of targets commonly appearing on the modern battlefield, including, but not limited to, low observable aircraft, fighters, helicopters, UAVs and cruise missiles. It is fully capable of providing azimuth, range and elevation to the operator, as well as classify the detected targets - which it detects automatically and can track over 100 at the same time, with maximum detection range of 180km, detecting fighters at range between 70km to 120 kilometers depending on RCS, helicopters at range of 40km, and low observable / low size aerial vehicles at range of between 40km to 60km. Two key components of the radar are solid state transmitter / receiver module and elevation phased multi-beam array, are mounted on a expandable pole located on a truck and elevated once it comes to a stop, providing 70° elevation coverage and fully manageable coverage sector (360* or specified sector between 40° to 120°). At peak of it's power, "Skyeye" can generate 1600W transmission, with range accuracy of 30 meters and azimuth accuracy of 0,5* for targets with minimum speed of 36km/h. L - band on which the radar operates provides good detectability against very low observable (VLO) targets. Entire system has been characterized by quick deployment time (15 minutes), low power consumption (around 2500W), long meantime between failures (2500h) and ability to work in extreme conditions (from -30*C to +50*C). Beam forming, receivers and pulse compression are fully digitalized. "Skyeye" comes with an integrated IFF module and capability to "link" with other radars to increase results.

"Skyeye" fatures several functions to defend against enemy's attack, featuring frequency agility, ability to emit "random" transmissions to confuse enemy's anti radiation missiles or ESM, automatic selection of least jammed frequency or full capability to detect the sources of jamming. It can be operated remotely or from a cabin equipped with full NBC protection.

Ta-Chi 9 Model "Skywind" is an X-band, 3D phased array radar, being second radar in Type 7 battalion, used interchangeably with Ta-Chi 7 Model 2. "Skywind" is composed of single channel X-band receiver (which, as each part, comes with a single line-replaceable unit LRU), single X-band exciter based on direct digital synthesis (DDS) technology with a single master oscillator to generate frequency ad a single X-band transmitter, coupled with multiple inboard computers and signal data processor with digital controls. "Skywind" has top target detection range of 160km, with capability to detect low flying threats such as helicopters as soon as 75km. It can also perfectly perform in counter rocket artillery and mortar (CRAM) role. Only two persons are required to operate this radar and can deploy it without any outside help in less than 10 minutes. The antenna is mounted at the top of a truck and provides 60° elevation angle on 360° search, unless specified otherwise by operator. System comes with an integrated IFF module and capability to "link" with other radars to provide clearer picture.

Ta-Chi 7 Model 2 and Ta-Chi 9 Model 3 are usually linked together, supplementing each other. This system provides series of clear advantages - in case when one radar is destroyed, second one can still function, and lower resolution of L-band is coupled with higher resolution of X-band, which in return does not perform so well against VLO (very low observable) targets. Additional radars can be easily integrated into the system on client's demand.


Command & Control


Architecture of Type 7 Chu-SAM is based on command node and number of batteries attached to it. Each component was designed for both combined, and separate, operations. Type 7 batteries are fully capable of operating autonomously to protect mechanized elements of Imperial Nihonese Army from enemy's air attack. In case of the battery functioning independently, additional engagement radar can be provided to supplement limited capabilities of fire control radars mounted on vehicles.

Networking node is based on Network control center (NC2) which is capable of controlling up to 8 batteries located up to 30km from the NC2 and maintaining the communication through radio or datalinks, featuring highly advanced ECCM such as highly directional antennas, coding or frequency hopping. "SHOGUN" battlefield management system allows to link with other units and provides the commander with constant stream of data. Every NC2 features data processing station that automatically classify, evaluate and prioritize threats detected by radars. Every such HQ has in-build simulator for wargaming the defense options.

Battery command vehicle is a converted Type 52, possess series of computers and links for processing and weapons control, and are capable of controlling the TELs from afar. Every command vehicle can control up to 3 TELs, each of which is accompanied by 8x8 ammunition vehicle carrying 24 missiles in containers + crane.

Type 10 KU - SAM is a long range air defense system developed jointly by Murakami Heavy Industries and Tsukumo Steelworks for the Imperial Nihonese Army, first time presented in 2009 on 460th anniversary of battle of Shimazu during the military parade taking part from that occasion, and instantly gathering attention of potential customers from all around the world. Major purpose of this magnificent surface to air missile system is engaging hostile strategic bombers, airborne early warning and control, electronic warfare aircraft as well as destruction of enemy's ballistic and cruise missiles which became greater and greater threat during recent wars. End goal of the designer team as described Dr. Yamakusa Shinji on the 2009 military markets in Kiyosu is to counter newest generation of threats emerging on the battlefield, including, but not limited to, stealth technology, PGMs and increasing amount and accuracyof ballistic and cruise missiles deployed by various nations. At it's very core, Type 10 Ku - SAM can be described as being composed of four necessary components:

- Katsuyori Air Defense Management System, linked to Numazu - 7 Command Post & Ta-Chi 20 Mark 1 / Ta - Chi 24 Model 1 air search radars.

- Ta-Chi 18 Mark 6 Fire control radar.

- Between four to six transporter erector launcher (TEL) mounted on 5x5 Ueda Truck

- Logistical system composed of mix of various missiles, storage & maintenance.

C4RISTA capability of the system is composed by wide array of either radio or fiber optic wire communications necessary to man this mighty tool of air defense. Maximum distance of the TEL from the Numazu - 7 is at this moment 100 kilometers. Every key component is linked together by "Katsuyori" Air Defense Management System. Named after legendary Nifonese lord from Asuka period believed to posses outstanding archery skill so great that he could hit insects during their flight, "Katsuyori" operates on an open network architecture, allowing for easy integration of multiple components including data from other radars of Nifonese production through a series of interfaces coupled with digital software, as well as networking pairs of such system managing separate units.

Brain of the battery is a Numazu - 7 Command post mounted on tracked Ne - 49 platform. A true heart of the network, Numazu - 7 can collect, process and synthesize data from every sensor linked to it through "Katsuyori" ADMS, as well as remotely control functioning of both Ta-Chi 20 Mark 1 and Ta - Chi 24 Model 1 air search radars through a secure millimeter wave narrow band datalink. Thanks to Murakami M13 electronics system with Quad CPU coupled with 500 Mhz clock and 500 MB of RAM, the crew operating the system through several 50cm x 50cm LCD screens coupled with consoles can enjoy constant stream of data. Another data link allows networking with outside system, while communication is provided by series of voice / data digital communication links.

At this moment, crew of the Numazu - 7 is followed of following persons:
- Battery Commander
- Situation Management Officer
- Fire Control Officer
- Fire Control Officer
- Technical Officer

RADARS


First and most important radar included in average Type 10 battery is Ta - Chi 24 Model 1 air defense radar, operating on S - band and designed for maximum efficiency in long - range surveillance - citing the fact that it is capable to locate targets as far as 470 kilometers and as high as 40 000 meters. It is a 3D stacked beam Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) type of sensor using digital beam forming technique, Ta - Chi 24 Model 1 emits 15 stacked beams to cover sector of roughly 65 degrees. To it's advantage comes ability to operate in both 360* surveillance (24 rotations per minute) or alternatively in operator specified sector between 40* to 100*. Extremely advanced solutions incorporated into it allows this magnificent device of detection to monitor 1000 targets at once, including theater level ballistic missiles (100 at one time) - an ability of utmost necessity on a modern battlefield. In addition to that there is greater possibility of detecting small sized or low observable targets than in previous models. Key concern of designers from Murakami defense industries was to increase survival ability and counter the modern Electronic Attack (EA) means. As a result, set of various measures were introduced into their creation - including ultra - low sidelobes outside of main lobe of transmission, multiple frequency abilities in both pulse to pulse, burst to burst, and scan to scan modes. In addition to that Type 10 automatically conducts random broadcasts on random frequencies in order to confuse eventual enemy ELINT and ARMs, detects and chooses frequency least affected by enemy electronic attack to operate on, and is capable of intercepting hostile electronic jamming and tracking it in both azimuth and elevation. Ta - Chi 24 M. 1 is fully capable of carrying out target classification and has integrated IFF. Operation is possible from a computer in close location to the radar device, including from the battery Numazu - 7 command post.

The second engagement / air surveilance radar is Ta-Chi 20 Mark 1 designed especially to hunt stealth assets, working on VHF band with a center frequency of over 50 transmitter frequencies being approximately 175 MHz, with full capability of performing pulse to pulse change. Ta-Chi 20's antenna is mounted on a tall elevation crane with fully automatic deployment which takes only approximately 6 minutes, allowing this radar to perform shoot - and - scoot operations, and what results of it, increase it's survivalability. Radar's antenna is composed of 28 transmit / receive blocks following diamond lattice pattern. As with previous design, resistance to enemy's EW means was listed as top priority: first one is the fact that this powerful radar is capable of rapid hopping across 50 channel frequency using either random or adaptive control techniques (evading channels known to be jammed) in addition to possessing three channels for suppression of hostile radar signals, which, when coupled with low peak power (contrary to older VHF designs) makes it highly resistant to hostile ESM attempting to hunt for it. Maximum operating range is 360 kilometers with 350 kilometers detection range against F-35 size RCS target in unjammed environment. 250 targets can be automatically tracked with enabled target classification. Contrary to older VHF, this radar can also measure attitude of the target alongside speed and range.

Ta-Chi 18 Mark 6 is the radar that managed the fire control. It operates on X - band, requires only 5 minutes to be deployed and can successfully track 100 targets in track via scan and track 7 of them directly while controlling up to 72 missiles. Maximum detection range is 310 kilometers. This radar's power is argumented by microprocessors mounted inside it, allowing it to defeat modern high power electronic attack devices and adaptively control the radar beam.

It has to be noted that during Type 10's operation the radars mentioned above operate jointly backed by data fusion software in the command post, complementing each others to negate the drawbacks each of them has. Low resolution of VHF Ta-Chi 20 Mark 1 can be instantly supported by high resolution of the second engagement radar, while combination of VHF / S / X bands poses a decent challenge for stealth - outfitted targets, allowing complete area denial to the scanned zone.

First missile operated by Type 10 Ku - SAM is Su - 2000 long range air defense missile, which has been portrayed above. Su - 2000 is a two stage interceptor designed to provide a cheap defense against proliferating cruise and ballistic missile threats. Su-2000 engages the target on ballistic trajectory, being capable of conducting an interception as far as 340 kilometers at flight celling of 34 000 meters. The missile features full active homing guidance, however possibility of command guidance is fully included through a 3 way datalink, which allows display of calculated trajectory on the computer screen alongside with possibility of making amends to the fire mission, changing path and re-targeting by operator's command. Front of Su-2000 has an unique shape resembling body of a dolphin and houses both AESA 3D radar and dual electro optical (for the daytime interception) and infra-red (for nighttime interception) sensors, both of which are highly resistant to ECM / IRCM. Responsible for propulsion is multipulse mode motor, using first two pulses to deliver the missile into a mid-course flight, with third pulse activating once specific intercept course has been calculated and guiding the missile on target, allowing this interceptor to reach enormous speed of mach 3.5.. Four sets of X shaped wings give the Su-2000 perfect supermanouervrability, especially during the kill stage when the missile descends from ballistic trajectory on it's target. Responsible for destruction of the target is a 70 kilogram warhead located just behind guidance section, detonated by either radar or contact fuse. Su-2000 weights 1500 kilograms with length of 6.6 meters and is stored in launch-ready container.

In addition to that a self - defense missile called Su-500 is fielded. Su-500 is capable of operating at range of up to 40 kilometers (which is minimum range of Su-200 and thus, complements it). It weights 310 kilograms, is about 4 meters long and 18 centimeters in diameter. To successfully hit a target, Su-500 features an active homing guidance coupled with possibility of uplink with ground station, alongside with fragmentation warhead. During the flight this complementary design can reach speed of mach 3,5 and attitude of 13 kilometers. It has to be noted that it is by no means major component of the system, which is a role filled by Su-2000; but rather a support weapon for backup situation should such a need arise.

In addition to that, Type 10 can upon demand - due to an open infrastructure - incorporate multiple other missiles which should be stated upon customer's request. New missiles are soon to be integrated. Both kinds of missiles share containers akin to those used by the Imperial Nifonese Navy.

Overview:

Type 89 is a latest generation main battle tank from the Empire of Greater Nifon designed by Murakami Heavy Industries in cooperation with various foreign nations in order to complement and support heavier Type 86 Chi-Go. "Chi" in it's name indicates that it is an MBT, with a weight beneath 60 tons.

"Chi-Go" is a machine of small dimensions (7.1 meters length, 3.58 width, 1.9 meters height) and low weight (48 tons). Those features greatly increase it's strategic mobility, including air transport and use of roads and bridges. It has a conventional turret mounted at the center at the vehicle. This newest creation of Nifonese engineers is crewed by 3 people; commander, gunner and driver.

Propulsion & Mobility:

Type 89 is propelled by Kojima K-71 diesel engine, providing practical output of 1500 Horsepower, with an option to provide 2000 HP should the operator choose to risk rapid decrease of service life. Fully controlled by a computer, the engine allows "Chi-Ri" to reach up to 500 kilometers in range. The choice of diesel engine over a gas turbine rapidly decreases costs of operation and allows the MBT to operate at greater ranges. The engine is connected to a 12 speed electronically controlled mechanical gearbox joined with 14 road wheels spinning rubber band tracks. The gearbox and the engine form a single unit that can be disconnected for service in a very short time. Excellent mass to horsepower ratio allows Type 89 unprecedented top speed of 90 kilometers per hour and ability to easily cross any obstacles that find themselves in the tank's path. In addition to that, the crew from Kojima added an "active damping system" which actively measures terrain to come, then pressurizes the suspension at independent points to lift the chassis and keep the vehicle level steady, resulting in great increase in speed as well as maneuverability and decrease of fuel use. This MBT can cross rivers as deep as 4 meters using a snorkel tower.

Final feature of the mobility system has been added due to rugged terrain present on the Nifonese islands. Knowing this fact and aiming at creating best system to be used in such an environment, the Nifonese engineers incorporated a feature called In-arm Suspension Unit (ISU). ISU provides direct control over every bogie of the tracks, allowing "Chi-Ri" to actively change hull elevation and suspension both upwards and downwards, or to the sides. The tank can thus lower itself for lower profile and superior performance on roads (a feature very useful in gun-down positions behind terrain obstacle) while moving upwards allows the MBT to clear higher obstacles, fire while moving downhill or argument gun elevation. ISU provides as well a protection for the chassis from vibrations while traveling on rugged terrain.


Protection:

" Chi-Ri " has a very sharply angled glacis plate and V shaped hull bottom. It is first Nifonese MBT fully designed at home to feature multiple layered protection system:

The first layer of Type 89 armor is a new composite armor. Created by mix of newly developed steel alloy, ceramic plates and kevlar lining, this design is far lighter compared to traditional the one used in traditional main battle tank designs and helped to save hundreds of kilograms, allowing the vehicle's weight to be severely reduced while retaining performance equal to heavier main battle tanks. Estimated armor thickness at the hull is 900 mm vs APFSDS and 1400 vs HEAT.

The second layer is "Karuta Gunsoku" Explosive reactive armor, being an expansion of earlier ERA designs developed by the Imperial Nifonese Army Technical Academy in Kiyosu. The method of ERA's work is extremely simple; a penetration perforates the outer layer of the box, and reaching them, initiates the explosives contained within. Due to explosion inside the box the outer layer is thrown outwards "from the armor", while a second metal layer is directed "into the armor", then amortizes itself and activates second charge, which forces it back into the direction it came from, creating a time interval between the movement of outer layer and the inner layer, allowing to - despite initiation of the ERA by precursor change of the ATGM - to "catch" the tandem stream by the inner layer. In case of an AFPSDS round such a method causes two instant pressures on the charge. Individual cells have been tightly clad and their spaces directly integrated on the tank's structure, providing unprecedented coverage. The uniqueness of application on Chi-Ri is that two layers of ERA mutually reinforcing each other have been added, further increasing the MBT's protection. While a single ERA layer can take much, two can withstand any punishment offered by modern ammunition. Drawback for such a solution is extremely heavy weight of the armor, but this solution is justified due to low weight of the vehicle. Assessing effectiveness with two layers of ERA, "Kusari Gunsoku" provides 80% of reduction against newest AFPSDS rounds, between 80% to 90% against newest tandem charge warheads, 70% against ATGMs equipped with a precursor charge and 95% against tandem warheads fired from squad level anti tank weapons.

In addition to that the engine area has received additional cover in form of 2Ku77 aluminum based cage bar armor in order to protect it against threat of squad anti - tank weapons.

Third layer of protection is Murakami "Satsuma" hybrid APS system providing complete protection against all forms of threats 360* around the tank. "Satsuma" is in fact split into two parts; first part is composed of two hard kill launchers at the rear of the turret, one per side. This protection measure gathers information about it's targets from two small radars at the turret's side as well as from the tank's main radar, providing very quick reaction time. Second part of the system is designed to counter IR and SACLOS based anti - tank guided missiles using soft-kill measures such as electro optical jammer. Major components are two dazzlers, each mounted at the edges of MBT's turret designed to blind Infra-red seeking warheads of ATGMs, a laser warning system, heavily automated control panel with both manual and automatic launch functions combined with own microprocessor, as well as 16 aerosol spray grenades that cover the IFV in a beam dispersing smoke, which additionally allow Type 89 to retreat to safe place. "Satsuma" is fully integrated with all other MBT components, including main radar and FCS.

Optional protection includes "Kitsune" multi spectral camouflage system, which is a revolutionary vehicle camouflage system designed to protect the vehicle against various threats. "Kitsune" comes in form of camouflage net adapted to local terrain that breaks the shape of the vehicle, greatly reduces the IR signature and protects against radar recoanissance and target seeking on band from 1 to 100 GHz. Optional elements include a system designed to reduce vehicle's IR signature in tropical or warm climates. It has to be noted that "Kitsune" may be attached either through tapes or be directly integrated on the modular armor plates (specify with order). All vehicles feature standard IR suppressing paint.

In addition to that Type 89 is fully protected against chemical, radiological, biological and nuclear threats.

Armaments::

Originally intended armament was supposed to be a 140 milometer gun being developed by a Nifonese company called Sumite. The development however, was ceased after the imperial Nifonese army realized that not only will the current generation of canons stay sufficient for a while, but also that 140 millimeter gun possesses several drawbacks that can't be easily negated. While the urrent armament of Type 89 is a 125 milimeter L51 smoothbore gun recently developed in the Empire of greater Nifon codenamed "Type 21/17", the turret of Chi-Ri has been optimized to house a bigger gun, installing of which is still an option should such a need arise. At the same time, several electrical motors and actuators are responsible for driving the turret.


"Type 21/17" on it's own weights 2800 kilograms and has an estimated barrel weight of 500 shots. This gun features significant improvement over the past Nifonese tank guns that were employed up to date. Then, the sensors locate designated target and fire and explosively formed perpetrator at the top of hostile tank, targetting the weakest part - the top. Maximum operational range is 8000 meters while minimum is 2000 meters.

Problems with Soviet - style auto loaders were well known to the Imperial Nifonese Army, having previously observed various Riysan T-72s. By it's placement, the ammunition mounted inside such a tank could neither be protected, and high complexity of the auto loading mechanism resulted in wide degree of mechanical failures. To address those issues, a completely new kind of autoloader has been designed for Type 89 Chi - Ri. At first, autoloader has been completely separated from the crew compartments, having an effect on both efficiency of the auto loader and the safety of the crewmen. Blowout panels have been installed inside of the compartment in case should the ammunition fire, allowing for it's quick containment and preventing it from reaching the rest of the tank. Rather than employing classical "carousel", Nifonese design is far less complex and far simpler, having been built around the "rifle clip" concept - rather than loading the entire carousel again, the entire depleted module is meant to be removed and replaced by completely new one, which greatly decreases reloading speed (although the crew has optional possibility of exchanging one round at time should such need arise). Rounds are moved through an electric drive, which, once activated, causes movement of the chain that places the proper munition just above the loading through. The round is then placed inside the loading through and rammed through an opening in the autoloader wall until it reaches the gun. Following completion of the loading, the action is repeated. Operating time is 3 to 4 seconds while storing 30 rounds of 125mm ammunition and 15 stored within the hull, total 45 rounds.

In addition to that a 12.7 MG is mounted co-axial to the gun, and 7x41mm LMG is integrated with the commander's periscope.

Sensors, Communications & Networking:

Type 89 is equipped with "Sanada" fire control system built by Sumida consortium especially for use on Type 89. Named after legendary Daimyo from Asuka Jidai, "Sanada" was designed to lower the costs of maintenance and radically slash complexity while retaining minimum failure rate and high efficiency. It is composed by two independent fire control computers operated by the gunner and the commander. In case one of them experiences mechanical failure or is damaged, operator can access the second one as a backup and display it on his own fire computer.
Both fire control computers are fully identical and can be easily replaced. With the aid of recent technologies the size of computers has been scaled down so that all the functions an MBT requires can be required though running a proper software on the processor card. An intelligent power distribution unit watches over the whole system.

Both the commander and the gunner posses their own LCD mointors connected to the FCS alongside with appropriate control handles. Each of them is capable of displaying data from the following sensors mounted inside the MBT: gun elevation/depression sensor, turret azimuth sensor, meteorological sensor, muzzle reference collimator, inertial measure sensor, ammunition temperature sensor.

Unique function of "Sanada" is that aside from major fire control components, an inertial navigation sub-unit has been incorporated. It is capable of supporting the FCS with locating the current position, targeting and pointing information. It can be also integrated with all sorts of Global Navitgation Systems, with custom version using SACTO's AXISAT network.

Washi W-04GW optronic sights system designed to engage the enemy at any time of the day, in any weather conditions, as well as when the vehicle is on the move. W-04GW features 3rd generation thermal camera, CCTV camera with multiple zoom options and high resolutions as well as integrated laser rangefinder completely safe for users. This system is fully integrated with fire control systems and battle management systems, displaying status of the weaponry as well as automatically detecting potential targets via their shape and relying them directly to the gunner's station. Two such units are mounted on Type 89 - one of them co-axial mounted above the cannon, second linked to main sensor slaved armament (MSSA), giving it not just hunter - killer, but a true killer - killer capability, allowing the commander to search for potential threats and engage them at will while the gunner mans main cannon & coaxial MG, increasing survival ability in urban environments. Turret's FCS incorporates an all around situational awareness system developed by a Nifonese company named Fujita designed to provide 360* situational awareness day and night regardless of conditions on the battlefield on TV/IR video. Several cameras feed it with images of events transpiring around the tank, and each of those camera feeds may be selected to be displayed individually. Motion detection and crew warning is fully provided, and upon an order the system is fully capable of pointing the RWS or fire control system directly into direction of the detected threat.

Left to the commander's sight is a millimeter wave AESA radar system developed by Washi. Operating on extremely high frequency of almost 30 GHz, this radar is capable of argumentation other sensor systems in detection of hostiles or to detect anti - tank guided missiles and other threats and relying them to active protection system for elimination.

In addition to that, Washi IFF-48 has been incorporated just above the gun. This system, operating on frequency of 38 GHz emits a wave in the same direction as the gun is faced. Should the target provide a response, it will be declared friendly. Should the response not be provided, the target is automatically declared hostile.

In addition to that Chi-Ri is fully compatible with a Nifonese C4I/ Battlefield management system responsible for networking units from a single platform up to battalion level. Major components for a single MBT are: C4I computer with proper software, digital tactical radios, navigation systems, intercommunication system, all those linked to LCD display units. Through this network the commander can plan movement, form plans, read military reports and messages, access logistics networks or use tools designed for supporting decision. The entire system runs on a modular, easy to change architecture that can be customized for customer's requirements, alongside full integration with tank's own RWS, FCS and sensors.

Type 12 Shotokan - named after popular Nifonese taijutsu style - is a multi barelled rocket launcher system constructed by Murakami Heavy Industries which entered service in 2004 and has been extensively upgraded ever since. Shotokan made name for itself during various conflicts in which the Imperial Nifonese Army fought, including used to neutralize positions on mountain tops during Manjuguo campaign and to bombard the jungles of An`Nam. Currently Type 12 is fielded in corps - level artillery brigades, striking terror into strategic grouping of communist forces.

The system itself is mounted on Ueda 720 truck, which is very popular platform for Nifonese military systems famed for it's ability to operate in any terrain as well as strong and durable construction with a total weight of 43 tons. Accompanying the launch vehicle is always an ammunition crane utilizng the same platform. Using Ueda 720 permits reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers on the road, autonomous operation up to 850 kilometers without refuelling and traversing 30* elevation or one meter tall obstacle. Additional equipment includes a central tyre-pressure regulation system that automatically adjusts the tyre pressure to suit the terrain being crossed. Each truck is fully NBC protected and possess night vision devices for the crew. Type 12 can be fully deployed for fire within 3 minutes, and likewise fold itself within one minute and leave the area to avoid counterfire and re-load on a different site. Reloading the system takes 18 minutes.

Other platforms may be availible upon the client's request.

Fielded within the launcher are 10 missiles of 300mm callibre. Each of them weights around 800 kilograms and is over seven meters long on the average. Capable of being launched are several kinds of missiles including HE-FRAG, Anti tank or minelets. Each missile rests within a self contained tube container that can be easily exchanged, with 5 missiles housed within a container. The missiles can be launched within 38 seconds and devastate an area of 67 hectares. Circular probability error even at longest ranges is contained within 30 meters.

The following options are availible for the missile's payload:

- A cluster munition fielding 72 × 1.75 kg, each with 96 fragments.

- An anti tank fragmentation munition with 5 × 15 kg anti tank bomblet - the bomblet is detached from the missile, then locates the tank through milimeter wave radar and fires a projectile at the tank's top armor.

- A cluster mine munition with 25 × 5 kg anti tank mines.

- A HEAT munition.

- A thermobaric munition.

- HE - FRAG munition.

Type 12 MRLS has been always known for innovative methods of target acquisition. Fire is controlled by Murakami Electronics MET - 7 Fire control computer (FCC) linking every single MRLS into one common system; allowing each unit in battery to fire in separate direction and still successfully engage the assigned target. Each launcher is equipped with such computer, linking it into the command post, which has more advanced and complex version. The network is decentralized enough for MRLS to fire even when command post gets hit, tough with greatly reduced effectiveness. Type 12 can operate in various modes: Manual, stand alone and autonomous.

General Battery consists of:

  • Six Launchers: equipped in various missiles listed below.
  • Six reloading trucks: UEDA 720 carrying ammunition.
  • Three replenishment vehicles: for constant resupply
  • Two command posts: one reserve in case of destruction of first one. Command post carries a fire control computer and meteorological radar.
  • TA - CHI 1 Mark 7 Model 2 radar: acting as counter artillery fire and support radar for the battery.
  • TA - CHI 0 Mark 2 man portable battlefield surveillance radar: serving to detect the closing enemy, thus providing protection.

Type 1254 is a family of ballistic missiles originating from the Empire of Greater Nihon, known "Mamushi" which means "Viper". The system was originally tested in 1994, but the newest version, with few additions such as additional stabilizers were added in Type 1254C version in 2007, which is current version presented on sale, however there is additional possibility of purchasing Type 1254BV, a lesser range 380km range SRBM, which has lower restriction level and is available for non - SACTO member nations friendly to Greater Nihon. Derivative of "Mamushi" is Type 1254AS known as "Kaimamushi" which means "Sea Viper" - an anti - ship ballistic missile system developed especially for enforcing sea denial on narrow seas of Furukuran ocean. The tactical application of such missile is very simple; theatre - level strikes against the key objectives, such as airfields, infrastructure, bridges, enemy groupings, command posts and air defence sites. Additionally the missile thanks to it's characteristics, serves as very good deterrent against various foes, who would be unlikely to attack party possessing this missile due to knowledge that their own key objects may be destroyed in return, being aware of Mamushi's mobility and range. Mamushi in it's overall sight does not differ much from other SRBMs, and some features of it's design can be traced even back to V2 missiles, plans of which were captured by Gunjitai during WWII. The design of course is much more modern. The main missile itself, mounted on transporter erector launcher (TEL) is 870cm long, weights 5900 kilograms, is a classic solid propellant single stage. Unlike most missiles this model uses quasi - ballistic trajectory, with relatively flat flight profile, never leaving the atmosphere which allows it for greater manoeuvrability - during the flight the missile can manoeuvre up to 24G to evade the incoming enemy anti - ballistic missiles (ABM). Additional blades serve to provide better trajectory control during flight. The engine allows missile to reach 600km range at speed of mach 6. CEP is approximately 15 to 25 meters, which allows the missile for precision strikes against the enemy targets. Guidance systems include inertial guidance argumented by AIPN (Axis International Positioning Network, SACTO version of GPS), argumented by a terminal phase radar. All electronics inside the Type 1254 are coordinated by single Murakami electronics F752 microchip, which gives it high calculation power, coordinating all the components inside into harmonious cooperation. Additionally, Mamushi was equipped into two - way data link, which means that provided if appropriate UAV isnearby, a corrections to flight plan or target can be made at will, as well as the command can receive the data from the missile itself. To defend against enemy ABMs, besides the classic high speed (mach 6, mach 7.1 in Kaimamushi version) additional gear was installed. One of them is Washi ECU - 4 high power jamming system consisting passive jammer for attacking the enemy ABM's active seeker warheads, and active jamming device attacking the guidance radars of the enemy ABM systems. Additionally it also possesses decoys for fooling the ABMs. These traits make it very hard to intercept even for most modern systems. Unique feature is also that thanks to advanced laser - ring inertial guidance system it can operate without AIPN/GPS/GLONASS, however at cost of increasing the CEP. Minimal firing range is 40km.

The Type 1254 is mounted on 8x8 Ueda K745 carrier, and can be fired from any flat terrain on which the TEL an be placed. Due to light weight of the system (53t) it can be transported via railway or by huge plane such as C5 Galaxy. The mobility is what makes this system deadly; it can quickly reach any area, fire the missile,then move away, confusing enemy counter - attack. The TEL is equipped with it's own C3 (command, control and communications) computer allowing it to successfully fire the missile. Due to advanced link system, the missile can be also fired "blindly" then programmed in flight via AWACS / Drone link. Single truck can carry up to two missiles.

"Kaimamushi" is an Anti - ship ballistic missile (AShBM) created from Type 1254. It's major characteristics are decreased range at cost of speed - it can reach 470km at speed of mach 7.1, with warhead decreased to 520kg. Most characteristic system about it is it's guidance. After the launch, the missile launches itself at quasi - ballistic trajectory, flying on supersonic speed. Then, through combination of various sensors it finds the target through a smart program and hits it. The sensors mounted on it are active seeker warhead and unique electro - optronic homing seeker. It can also without problems identify ships via their thermal signature, possessing also the same features as earlier model. It's distinct feature is oval ending, which houses the electro - optronic system.

No. 27 is designation for Nihonese ground - based heavy CIWS, a derivative of CIWS used by Kaigun (Imperial Nihonese Army) named "Tora Guchi" which means "tiger mouth" and refers to a popular technique in Nihonese kenpo. After Type 38 entered service, the Nihonese units realized need for better performing against cruise missiles cannon. This was because huge gun of Type 38 worked perfectly against Planes or helicopters, but possessed certain limitations on fighting the cruise missile threat. Therefore, as a way of supporting the operations, a totally new system named No. 27 was designed, based after CIWS operated in Kaigun for a long time.

In short words, No. 27 is a 42mm autocannon and missile CIWS, designed to combat cruise missile threat, however it also possess considerable SHORADS capability. It's main armament is simple Mark K41 42x300mm naval autocannon, shooting an advanced AHEAD ammunition. This kind of ammunition uses laser - based proximity fuse, which measures distance to target through laser based range finder. The turret is fully unmanned, and operated from outside; the only exception is exchange of rounds after it runs out of ammunition.

As additional way of conducting air defence, No. 27 is equipped with 12x Type S87 Anti Air missiles, mounted in tube containers alongside it's hull. S87 is two - stage short range anti - air missile equipped with multiple continuous rod warhead and an active seeker, allowing it to target the enemy without problems. S87 is launched in fire - and - forget mode and can perform high G turns to follow enemy mobile target. Effective firing range is 18km and up to 15km in height. Having over 3 meters length and weighing 82kg, the missile has been proven to be effective in combat.

No. 27 uses the same electronics suite as in Type 38, in which both surveillance and fire control radars were integrated into single one. Ta - Chi Type 8 Mark 9 Model 1 integrated short range radar is an X - Band passive electronically scanned array (PESA) radar, created especially for detection of low flying aircraft joined with an L - band IFF (identification friend or foe) system, laser rage finder and thermal sight into one unified system that allows the CIS to successfully target any enemy. The differences however, in comparison to Type 38, exist. First one is that the camera sight is mounted upon the main gun, allowing for better observation field. Second is adding additional communications suite needed to transfer command from outside the turret.

The turret is mounted on Ueda 720, which is very popular platform for Nihonese military systems, Ueada known for it's ability to operate in any terrain as well as strong construction.

Type 49 is a major AFV series exploited in the modern era by the Imperial Nihonese Army, Imperial Nihonese Naval Special Landing Force, Imperial Guard and many other military branches outside Nihon. Ho-Ki is a result of long combat history in rugged, jungle - covered terrain across Southern Furukuran sea - when Nihonese soldiers first entered An`nam to conduct combat against the communist forces, wheeled vehicles employed so far proven to be hard to operate in wet, mud covered terrain, and on the roads the APCs became an easy prey to insurgent ambushes - resulting in need to create light, tracked cross county vehicle capable of operating in any environment, including one with poor road network, and supporting fast paced manouevere warfare. Thus original predecessor of modern day Type 49 was developed, giving birth to long line of vehicles, of which Ho-Ki is modern day incarnation, using newest technologies to achieve the same tested concept.

Type 49 is 4.987m long, has 2.78m of height and is 2.81m wide. It' s base weight is measured for 12.1 tons, which greatly increases performance in terrain where ground is soft and unstable; such as jungles of southern Furukuran sea. At first glance, Type 49 resembles conventional M113 style light tracked AFV, though with few visible differences such as slopes of the rear - located troop compartment being placed at angle for better protection, with four observation and shooting spots located at each side to allow soldiers to fire when the vehicle is moving (this variant was removed in B - version). Driver's seat is located at front, on left side of the APC, with power pack located at right side of the front section. For observation the driver is provided by day periscopes and single night periscope for nocturnal vision. Contrary to standard vehicles of this type which had soldiers sit on two inward facing benches, the hull compartment of "Ho-Ki" was split in two and divided by outward facing benches located in the middle of the compartment, allowing soldiers to be fully stable while shooting from posts in the hull. As for any modern vehicle, Type 49 is fully NBC - protected, either through face masks or over pressure CBRN filtration systems, depending on needs of the vehicle's purpose and customer's requirement. The infantrymen leave Type 49 through powered ramp is mounted in the rear, with the crew having a single hatch above the driver's seat for entry and evacuation.

The vehicle received brand new power pack designed by Kojima Industries Ltd, for first time in Nihon installing an advanced hybrid engine designated KO-981 into a military vehicle providing 400 HP. KO-981 gives Type 49 series of advantages over conventional vehicles, both in terms of design simplicity and efficiency by having the power mechanically transmitted through a cross - shaft arrangement, which greatly reduces power required to operate the engine and decreases risk of engine failure by reducing stress on various parts. In this engine, gearbox is composed of steermotor torque, propulsion motor torque and a mechanical steer regeneration mechanism that additionally decrease the weight and improve simplicity, providing Type 49 with capability to reach 75km/h and rotate around in seven seconds, as well as incorporates "all electronic" mode for quiet travel. For those who do not wish for hybrid engine an option is four stroke, six cylinder diesel engine equipped with a two - stage air induction, compact cooling system and a compact steering yoke. Two armored fuel tanks delivering oil to the engine were mounted on each side of the vehicle's ramp. Six road wheels are responsible for propelling the tracks. Additional increase in performance was achieved by use of rubber band tracks, which negated most of traditional drawbacks of tracked vehicles. In addition crew from Kojima added "active damping system" which actively measures terrain to come, then pressurizes the suspension at independent points to lift the chassis and keep the vehicle level steady, resulting in great increase in speed as well as manouerability. Type 49 is fully amphibious, with tracks acting as propellers with an option to mount a kit for amphibious assault.


At the center of the vehicle is a TAS (Turret Armaments Station) - 87, being a fully unmanned turret housing a single 24x140mm auto cannon, two anti-tank guided missiles (depending on type) and a single 7x41mm machine gun. The gunner's seat is located directly beneath the turret, allowing good communication with the driver and commander. TAS-87 carries dual ammunition feed for the main cannon with 140 rounds HE and 60 rounds AP. At the sides were placed two 3 - barreled smoke grenade launchers. Turret is fully electronically controlled with -11 deg. to + 60 * elevation range, and periscopic day / night sight. Major armament of the turret is Type 2-4 24x160mm autocannon, weighting 112kg on it's own, capable of shooting 600 rounds per minute at maximum effective range of 2500 kilometers, as well as additional programmable rapid single shot. Additional feature is a system allowing Type 2-4 to instantly select ammunition needed for the task.

Additional support systems include:


- Washi CC4 situational awareness system processing data from all others, automatically detecting & tracking targets

- Washi l71 laser warning system

- Washi V48 control handle and V50 video processing unit.

- 360* observation system linked to a display in the crew compartment allowing the infantry to get a clear view of the situation around them.

Base armor is made of aluminum - titanium alloy, protecting from 25 mm APDS at the front and 14,5 mm protection from sides and rear. However, there is a capability to mount in an explosive reactive armor (ERA) at cost of increasing the vehicle weight to 16 t. In addition, several other protection options exist:

- 2Ku77 bar armor system is a cage armor designed to protect the vehicle from the threat of rocket propelled grenades (RPGs). The entire body has been built from aluminum and optimized for Type 49.

- "Kitsune" multi spectral camouflage system is a revolutionary vehicle camouflage system designed to protect "Ho-Ha" against various threats. "Kitsune" comes in form of camouflage net adapted to local terrain that breaks the shape of the vehicle, greatly reduces the IR signature and protects against radar reconnaissance and target seeking on band from 1 to 100 GHz. Optional elements include a system designed to reduce vehicle's IR signature in tropical or warm climates. It has to be noted that "Kitsune" may be attached either through tapes or be directly integrated on the modular armor plates (specify with order). All vehicles feature standard IR suppressing paint.

- Washi WS - 27 - a soft kill active defense system designed to counter IR and SACLOS based anti - tank guided missiles, being an electro-optical jammer. Major components are two dazzlers, each mounted by the front of the turret to blind Infra-red seeking warheads of ATGMs, a laser warning system, heavily automated control panel with both manual and automatic launch functions combined with own microprocessor, as well as 12 aerosol spray grenades that cover the IFV in a beam dispersing smoke, which additionally allow Type 52 to retreat to safe place.





TYPE 4900 AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT KIT

Type 4900 is an amphibious conversion kit designed to allow Type 49 to conduct operations in fast flowing waters or oceans, which normal Type 49 is incapable of doing due to it's maximum swimming speed being 16km/h. Conversion kit weights 1800kg, making the weight of entire platform 14,8t, almost twice lighter than amphibious assault vehicles used by foreign nations.

At the front, the kit was equipped with a new "noose" tasked with improving buoyancy and providing the vehicle with hydrodynamic shape required for traveling at greater speeds in the water, increasing overall length to 7.2 meters. On the sides two units incorporating electronically powered propeller and stern were installed, each of them capable of operating independently which gives Type 4900 ability of performing quick turns Responsible for propelling the vehicle in water are two waterjets capable of pushing the vehicle to speed of 16 km/h in water. On the roof a snorkeling system tasked with delivering air to engine and crew was placed, alongside exhaust pipe combined with a cover system for traditional outlets of the engine. Additionally one can find stabilized platform that allows to mount either 12.7mm HMG or 40mm grenade launcher, fully capable of shooting on move.

Type 4900 is fully capable of carrying load of 10 fully equipped and armed marines and does not differ in most areas from Type 49 in terms of performance.





TYPE 409 YUKIKAME ("SNOW TURTLE")

"Snow turtle", or it's Nifonese designation Type 409, is an APC variant of type 49 Infantry Fighting Vehicle developed by Murakami originally on request of Gislandian military. The army of said nation was in need of a counter insurgency vehicle capable of operating in snowy areas present on it's territory. Coming against their requests engineers of Murakami defense industries used Type 49 design to develop a vehicle capable of operating in such areas; subsequently, Imperial Nifonese Army in need of a MRAP became interested in their work. Resulting development led to creation of Type 409 Yukikame ("Snow Turtle").

Fully upgraded "Yukikame" has weight of 14 tons and can carry 11 man load. Aside from those modifications, Type 409 uses mostly the same system as it's cousin, Type 49. Main features in initial design include modification of the crew compartment and removal of turret, which was replaced by a cupola capable of hosting four soldiers (and equipped with two LMGs of client's choice for increase of firepower). Another change was incorporation of windows made off blast resistant glass - first two at the front and left side of the driver, providing him with outstanding visibility, another four at crew compartment - acting also as shooting ports for the crew. The result is 360* observation and firing capability. Firing port now includes fully blast protected seats that shield soldiers from IED explosions. As in standard Type 49, driver has for his use rear-looking cameras. Final modification is an evacuation hatch at the top, permitting troops inside to quickly leave the vehicle should any damage occur. In addition to that Gislandian version includes a fuel tank warmer securing against low temperatures.

Principal threat posed to such vehicle - composed mostly of IEDs and RPGs used during ambushes. Baseline protection provided by Type 49 vehicle is already 14.5mm all around and 25mm front. A novum is "Okasi-gusoku" - named after light armor worn by Ashigaru in Asuka period, "Okasi" is a new generation armor made from several layers of metals, composites and explosives designed to nullify threat posed by explosively formed penetrators (EFPs) and modern generation of RPG warheads, providing level 4 on SACTO protection scale. Additional up-armoring was placed at the vehicle's bottom to protect against mine blasts. The second addition is full cover by slat cage bars that further reduce effectiveness of rocket propelled grenades.

Coupled with the vehicle is Type 99/01 IED jamming device designed to provide soft kill countermeasure against such a threats. Connected to a cupola-mounted antenna, this device provides omnidirectional barrage jamming of frequencies most often used by the terrorists - from HF, through VHF and UHF down to microwave level used by mobile phones and LAN networks.

An option to be installed should such a need arise is a "policing support" pack composed of a "skirt" to prevent grenades or rioters from getting under the vehicle and a dozer blade to break through barricades. The grenade launchers, when used in such role, have capability to fire CS gas for crowd control. Final part of the pack includes replacement of LMG with a dazzler designed to blind the crowds without doing them any harm.

Type 52 Ho - Ha is Tsukumo Steelwork's answer to Imperial Nihonese Army's need for heavier infantry fighting vehicle that could act as supplement to Type 49 arsenal currently in operation by INA and Kaigun Rikusentai. While hordes o quickly manouevering Type 49s equipped with hybrid engines, capable of crossing any terrain at any time proven to be extremely useful in recent conflicts, Imperial Nihonese Army soldiers quickly stated need for a heavier Infantry Fighting Vehicle that could not loose mobility in hard terrain, but also act as main vehicle of breakthrough forces (usually the second echelon in Nihonese doctrine). Coming against their requirements, Tsukumo Steelworks developed totally new infantry fighting vehicle that could perform required roles, wielded considerable fire-power, was highly mobile and provided good protection. In that way, in 2009, Type 52 Ho - Go was presented on annual military markets in Ishikawa, to enter service in early 2010. The IFV successfully performed against Tong forces in late 2013, which led to it's adaptation by other INA units.

Requirements were for a modular construction capable of performing numerous tasks. Due to logistical considerations, Tsukumo Steelworks went to design a simpler, but still effective, vehicle with lower life cost and modular composition that can be adapted to serve any function - a command vehicle, IFV, weapons carrier, with additional turret less series existing as combat engineer carrier, armored recovery or ambulance.

Main version of Type 52 is a tracked infantry fighting vehicle following conventional layout - driver seat to the left, offering him an extremely efficient view of the front and sides, turret in the middle, crew compartment housing eight people in the rear that the soldiers leave through the power operated ramp. It is 7.2 meters long, 3.2 meters high and 3.4 meters wide, while weighting, in it's base variant, about 34 tons, with possibility of installing additional armor going up to 44t. Power pack has been located right to the driver, while both commander and gunner occupy seats in two-man turret. Crew compartment has been designed for quick refitting for various purposes, features several rails and grips on the walls and floor, fully allowing quick modification of the vehicle in case of such need coming. While the crew enters the vehicle through rear ramp, one hatch has been designed for the driver, while two additional have been mounted on the top of the turret to allow quick evacuation of the crew in case of damage. In addition, two top hatches have been mounted in the crew compartment allowing for not only evacuation, but two man constant overwatch. Type 86 is moved by six road wheeles powering two tracks, alongside suspension system.

Due to modular armor the vehicle is easy to be air transportable. 4 tactical airlifters can transport a platoon, with 3 carrying vehicles and 4th modular armor and supplies.

"Ho-Ha" is powered by Kojima K412 with nominal power output of 800 kW, allowing Type 52 to retain equal speed with main battle tanks, reach speed of over 70 kilometers per hour, and reach up to 600km without refueling assuming perfect conditions. The power pack has been located on the right side of the driver, with oil tank being located beneath the front armor to provide maximum protection due to level of thickness. In addition crew from Kojima added "active damping system" which actively measures terrain to come, then pressurizes the suspension at independent points to lift the chassis and keep the vehicle level steady, resulting in great increase in speed as well as manouerability.

Turret has been mounted slightly off center of the vehicle and features two seats for commander and gunner. It's major feature is safety of the users - crew compartment where the gunner & commander seat has been completely separated from the ammunition section located at the rear and sides of the turret, which when coupled with internal ballistic protection for the crew leads to major increase in safety of the crew. Such system, when coupled with the fact that main gun is mounted in a separate cradle, allows the turret to be equipped in an entire series of weapons without changing the vehicle - an option highly valued by the clients who do not want to change their weaponry for the one offered with standard Nihonese model. Both commander and gunner have fully digitalized interfaces linked to common battle management system, allowing them to digitally exchange information with other platforms and coordinate the assaults. Subsystems mounted on the turret include:

- Washi W-04GW optronic sights system designed to engage the enemy at any time of the day, in any weather conditions, as well as when the vehicle is on the move. W-04GW features 3rd generation thermal camera, CCTV camera with multiple zoom options and high resolutions as well as integrated laser rangefinder completely safe for users. This system is fully integrated with fire control systems and battle management systems, displaying status of the weaponry as well as automatically detecting potential targets via their shape. Two such units are mounted on Type 52 - one of them co-axial, second linked to main sensor slaved armament (MSSA), giving it not just hunter - killer, but a true killer - killer capability, allowing the commander to search for potential threats and engage them at will while the gunner covers the infantry.

- Washi CSD is an acoustic shooter locating device consisting series of powerful listening devices locating the enemy shooter via noise of their guns. System features 360* coverage, own battery & signal processing, small dimensions and precise location of shooter's bearing, elevation and range, determining exact position, especially with loud artillery shells and explosive weapons. All data is shared with AXISAT - referrenced battle management systems. System automatically activates other system in case of gunshot. This system is optional and in testing stage.

- Washi V48 control handle and V50 video processing unit.

- 360* observation system linked to a display in the crew compartment allowing the infantry to get a clear view of the situation around them.

Major armament is provided by Tanegashima T48 35x230mm autocannon - a compact, light - weight, but also highly lethal weapon - an electric-driven, with a dual feed that supports both linked and linkless feed and very good reliability due to simplicity of the design. Ammunition choice is on shot to shot basis because T48 fires from an open bolt - no ammunition is inserted until the trigger is pressed, in either semi-auto or 200 rpm mode. Type 52 carriers 200 rounds ammunition, 70 at ready and 130 in storage. Current option for ammunition include:

- A HEDP round with 550 g mass.

- Armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot (APFSDS) allowing for penetration of 50mm plate at 3km range, with intended use against medium armored vehicles.

In addition, base IFV vehicle two Type 320 7.7x41mm LMGs were placed; one coaxial, one as main sensor slaved armament. Both guns have 2400 rounds to fire in total, with 600 ready per each gun and 1200 in reserve. Due to high ammunition capabilities, various other weapons can be placed if specified by a customer. Two ATGMs can be mounted in the container at the side.

"Type 52" features multiple options for protection, using "Kusari" modular armor, mixing multiple layers of steel and ceramic products. "Kusari-Ku" is a ballistic armor module designed to counter conventional ammunition of up to 14.5mm callibre. Additional modular armor is composed of two large flank panels that cover the tracks also alongside with near complete turret and roof cover, adding 9t weight (44t) to the vehicle, getting protection against shaped charges to up to 30mm. "Ho-Ha" can withstand up to 10 kg mines, IEDs and charges from below. To improve additional anti-ambush security of the crew, no portion of the equipment touches the floor of the IFV.

In addition, several other protection options exist:

Type RD - 52, the acronym standing for "Raidori", meaning "Storm Bird" is a video guided missile from the Empire of Greater Nifon, developed by Fujita Industries in 2010. Originally introduced in coastal defense and Imperial Guard Brigades for use against potential amphibious assault, Type RD 52 quickly made it's way into various units of Kaigun, Imperial Nifonese Army Ground Force and Imperial Nihonese Air Force, citing proliferation of highly advanced MBTs of Lyran, Marshie or TGT origin against which new kind of anti tank weaponry was required. Major factor contributing to it's success was multipurpose use of the munition, with capability to target variety of foes such as helicopters, tanks, command posts, artillery or fortifications, especially by lower level echelons being possible due to MCLOS TV guidance using a fiber optic cable thinner than a human hair carrying the feed from a camera mounted at missile's front, allowing the operator to precisely direct Type RD - 52 on target from several kilometers away from the battlefield, and to do it with a deadly precision so needed in modern conflicts. No matter weather the hostile flies among the very skies or hides among the thick forrests - nowhere he is safe from the Storm Bird!

Every model of "Storm Bird" is roughly 250 centimeters long, weights around 60 kg and 18 centimeters in diameter. Responsible for propulsion is a single two spool turbofan engine, granting the missile top speed of 200 km/h and allowing flight up to 500 meter attitude. Low flight speed is very beneficial to the operator because it allows for precise targeting - should the missile be faster, the operator would likely had problems with hitting small targets on the ground. In addition, turbofan engine generates low infra-red signature, denying enemy's IRST guided anti - missile systems an easy target to shoot down. Responsible for mid - flight course change are two sets of different canards; first arrayed in traditional pitch to turn, second arrayed in yaw to turn and bent for 45* angle to better sustain high speeds. Both of them give RD - 52 capability for performing quick turns and allow to perform random maneoueveres, to chase escaping helicopters or evade enemy's countermeasures. Top range of the missile depends on the altitude, but is estimated at this point on 25 kilometers.

At ht missile's front is gimbal mounted "Washi W21" dual color thermal IR camera integrated with color / low light camera or a single "Hisakawa Cannon" high quality CCTV camera, additionally stabilized by gyroscope. Both seeker systems are fully capable for tracking their targets; the IR variant, operating on 8-12 μm spectral band, is fully capable of operating 24 hours per day and highly resistant to enemy's countermeasures, while the optronic head provides high quality view for the operator, alongside with automatic detection, identification or classification of potential threats for the operator to gather data.

The missile's warhead is capable of penetrating 800 RHA equivalent. It's capability to damage armor comes especially due to likeness of attack being carried out from the top, where tank armor is weakest. During an attack against a ship, the storm bird flies on altitude of few meters above the sea level according to a pre-programmed trajectory, before rising after reaching the AO, handling direct control to the operator. Connected to the missile is two way datalink with speed of 200 MBit/s utilizing the fiber optic cable thinner than a human hair. Assuming that the cable is severed, the missile has capability to engage last designated target. A radio data link is an option depending on customer's choice. For purpose of navigation, each Storm Bird is fitted with a terrain map allowing the rocket in flight to avoid terrain obstacles and preventing it from crashing.

Another optional choice includes a thermobaric warhead for attacking buildings & living forces of the enemy.

Operator's station is usually mounted in a Type 49 vehicle, and consists of two large LCD screens and operator's panel connected to highly advanced computer responsible for data procession, a GPS/Location unit and software designed for mission planning and execution, alongside with a map software allowing the crew to easily locate and observe progress of all missiles. The station has also incorporated training software allowing it to be used as a trainer without any additional costs.

Aside from standard ground launched version, Type RD-52-I is a variant designed for helicopter launches.

Kabuto - 7 (translated as "Helmet - 7") is a Nifonese electronic warfare vehicle manufactured by Nishimura Electronics since 2012. It is designed to defend tactical level units against precision guided munitions using radar/radio guidance as well as conduct jamming of the enemy communication systems. Kabuto - 7 is one of the most advanced electronic warfare systems operated by Imperial Nifonese Army.

The entire system has been mounted on highly mobile Type - 49 vehicle hull, giving it capability to cross multiple terrains with ease even at high speed. Crewed by two people, Kabuto - 7 can be deployed by just aa crew of two in time of less than ten minutes, then swiftly relocate to a different location. Single unit can defend area of 500,000 square meters from hostile munitions, with no less than 200,000 square meters being covered at minimum during unfavorable conditions. Multi - band capability allows Kabuto - 7 to operate in the spectrum of 90 MHz to 520 MHz, targeting between three to six VHF lines at once. Total jamming potential is estimated at about 250W.

Background

The Type 86 Chi-Go, or in its Nachmerean designation the MBT-121 "Parash Sachor" (Black Rider) is the result of a commission by the The Empire of Greater Nifon for a main battle tank of light weight and small dimensions. A joint development team using technologies already at hand (mostly components from the MBT-143) rapidly designed the tank.

Unlike the other Schwerpunkt MBT, the Chi-Go is a relatively light vehicle meant for warfare in areas with extremely bad terrain and narrow passes, such as mountains, tropical jungles etc. The Chi-Go however is not a light tank, but a true MBT capable of engaging and destroying enemy armor, protected against a wide variety of threats, and built for rapid mobile operations.

The current version is Type 86V a variant upgraded with domestic Nifonese technologies.

General Design

The Type-86 has a conventional layout. The engine and transmission are located in the rear. The driver is located in the center of the front hull, with the rest of the crew in the mid-vehicle mounted turret- the gunner and commander on the right side, and loader to the left.

Armament

Currently the Type-86 is offered with two options for main armament. The Nihonese elected to mount a standard 125mm/L55 gun. Schwerpunkt, with an eye towards the Royal Marines as well as export clients also developed a 125mm ETC version of the gun.

Both guns are manually loaded and capable of firing APFSDS-DU, FS-HEAT, FS-HEP, FS-WP, and FS-APAM projectiles, as well as GLATGMs. The ETC version is roughly 20% more powerful, and as such is capable of knocking out virtually any opponent at ranges of up to 1,500 meters. With the employment of gun launched ATGMs, both variants allow the engagement of any opponent to maximum ranges.

The features of the main armament are:

A) A 687 centimeters long smooth barrel. A bore gas evacuator is located 2/3rds of the way from the muzzle to the chamber. A tritium nighttime rough sight is built into the tip of the barrel. The bore is covered with a combined thermal sleeve/vibration absorber. This device works by changing the way the thermal sleeve is installed on the gun. Rather than being fixed to the barrel as in standard guns, the forward part of the thermal sleeve is fixed to the gas evacuator conventionally and to the end of the barrel using a system of springs. This allows the thermal sleeve to pivot slightly. Energy from the vibration of the gun when traveling over rough terrain is transferred to the springs, and is partly dissipated in friction and partly re-transferred to the gun in a way that significantly lowers its effect. The vibration absorber improves accuracy and the life-span of the gun barrel. The average life expectancy for the barrel is 300 rounds.
The Nachmerean ETC gun is also equipped with a muzzle break to counter the substantial recoil of the ultra high pressure rounds.


B) A standard layout breach and chamber of very similar design is part of both guns. The breach is manually opened for loading. Both guns fire unified 125mm rounds with semi combustible shells. The non combustible parts of fired cases are extracted automatically and the breach remains open to allow a quick reload.

C) A recoil mechanism comprising of a concentric retarder and a pneumatic recuperator. The system allows the gun to recoil 32 centimeters.

Ammunition for the gun is stored in 3 storages. The first is located in the turret bustle and holds 22 rounds; the other 2 are located to the left and right of the driver in the front of the hull. Each round is located in a cylindrical canister made of fire resistant polymers. The canisters are placed on a closed loop chain which is motorized. The entire chain system is located outside the fighting compartment with blow off panels to direct a possible ammunition explosion away from the crew.

When an ammo type is selected by the gunner or loader the chain moves a canister holding the correct projectile to a port. The port opens and a rammer pushes the projectile out. The loader grabs the round and loads the gun.


The primary coaxial weapon of the Type-86 is a 7.62mm medium machinegun (FN-MAG in Nachmerian service), mounted inside the turret to the left of the main gun. Loaded from a 1,200 round belt, the 7.62mm machinegun offers a high rate of fire, low ammunition weight, and is capable of engaging infantry and soft vehicles at ranges of up to 1,200 meters. A spare barrel for the MG is kept in the turret.


The commander of the Type-86 has full control over the main and coaxial armaments of the tank. In addition, he has two other weapon systems operated solely by him.

A 7.62mm machinegun in a light remote operated weapon station is located near the commander's hatch on the turret roof. The weapons station can be operated by the commander while buttoned down, using a day/night electro-optic device and small joystick. It can also be manually operated by the commander when he is un-buttoned.

In addition to the machine gun, the commander also controls the 12 tube close range grenade system. The launch tubes are integrated into the turret of the Type-86, with 6 tubes on each side. The 80mm grenades launched by this system can engage infantry in close ranges (60 meters) and more importantly screen the tank against threats. The grenades are fired from a control panel in the commander’s compartment. Types of ammunition available for this system are White Phosphorus, HE-Fragmentation, IR-screening smoke, IR-Decoy, Less than lethal tear gas and less than lethal “flash-bang”.


The loaders armament in the Type-86 is a 7.62mm machine gun mounted to the left of the loader’s hatch. The mount is simple, manually operated and can traverse 230 degrees. The machine gun is fed from a 270 rounds box with 9000 more rounds stored in the tank (shared with the 2 coaxial MGs). A spare barrel, a bi-pod, and an infantry type butt-stock are stored in a compartment near the loader’s hatch. This allows the loader to convert the M240 to infantry configuration and use it in case the team must abandon the tank. The loaders MG can be used to replace a critically jammed coaxial.

Fire control and Observation

The Type-86 has a solid state ballistic fire control system based on ones previously installed in Nahchmerean tanks. It features an advanced processing unit and utilizes both IIR and day time optics. The system has both pixel-lock and hunter-killer capabilities.

The turret has full electric stabilization and electric-powered controls. The gun is stabilized by digital gyroscopes in both axes. A manual traverse system is installed as a backup. The fire control computer automatically calculates the fire solution based on: lead angle measurement; bend of the gun measured by the muzzle reference system; velocity measurement from a wind sensor on the roof of the turret; data from a pendulum static cant sensor located at the center of the turret roof; temperature, and barometric pressure. Solutions to moving targets or for fire-on-the-move are given by measuring the traverse speed of the turret while tracking the target. The system is capable of “pixel-locking”, a mode in which a moving target is “locked” on to by the system and the gun automatically tracks it and adds a lead.

The gunner’s sight is a TV type observation system, with day and night capabilities. The sight is digitally connected to the main gun, and stabilized in 2 axes. The system has X1, X3 and X10 magnification in both day and night modes. The sight itself is raised to minimize the exposure of the tank in fire positions. The image from the sight is displayed on a 10” LCD screen making targeting and scanning easier and less strenuous. When in X1 magnification the reticule changes from a standard cross to a circle similar to some small arms reflex sights, allowing easier aiming at close range targets.


The CITV (Commander’s Independent Thermal Viewer) acts as a separate, fully stabilized day and night sight for the main and coaxial weapons, allowing the commander to “slave” the gunner controls to identify targets or fire. In this mode the CITV allows the commander to identify, select, and range targets before even the top of the turret is exposed, and while remaining buttoned. The CITV has X1.5 and X8 magnification as options.

The driver has either three observation periscopes or two periscopes on both sides and a Driver’s Thermal Viewer. The periscopes provide 120°field of view. The driver also has a rear view camera with thermal imaging for night operations.

A secondary emergency system enables for firing using a mechanical ballistic computer. This system allows for firing with the FCS computer down and with the laser range finder down. It is connected to the backup sight. The backup optical sight has X2 or X8 magnification, and has a reticule marked for firing APFSDS-DU and HEAT rounds to different ranges.


Protection

The Type-86 has a very sharply angled glacis plate and V shaped hull bottom. The turret is a flat skillet type one, with angled plates installed around it. The tank is protected by passive, reactive and active systems.

The basic armor protection of the Type-86 is a composite armor called “Rhinoskin”.”Rhinoskin” has three layers- The most exterior one is a titanium matrix encasing tiles of silicon carbide. The middle layer is made of two layers of titanium alloy shell encasing a layer of Depleted Uranium mesh. The first and second layers are spaced from each other to increase protection without adding weight. The most inner layer is the back plate to the entire system and is made of un-perforated titanium. “Rhinoskin”, with varying thickness of the matrix layer, protects the entire hull and turret, aside from the turret top. The turret top is protected by spaced titanium armor.

To complement the passive protection given by “Rhinoskin” the tank uses "Karuta Gunsoku" Explosive reactive armor, being an expansion of earlier ERA designs developed by the Imperial Nifonese Army Technical Academy in Kiyosu. The method of ERA's work is extremely simple; a penetration perforates the outer layer of the box, and reaching them, initiates the explosives contained within. Due to explosion inside the box the outer layer is thrown outwards "from the armor", while a second metal layer is directed "into the armor", then amortizes itself and activates second charge, which forces it back into the direction it came from, creating a time interval between the movement of outer layer and the inner layer, allowing to - despite initiation of the ERA by precursor change of the ATGM - to "catch" the tandem stream by the inner layer. In case of an AFPSDS round such a method causes two instant pressures on the charge. Individual cells have been tightly clad and their spaces directly integrated on the tank's structure, providing unprecedented coverage. The uniqueness of application on Chi-Ri is that two layers of ERA mutually reinforcing each other have been added, further increasing the MBT's protection. While a single ERA layer can take much, two can withstand any punishment offered by modern ammunition. Drawback for such a solution is extremely heavy weight of the armor, but this solution is justified due to low weight of the vehicle. Assessing effectiveness with two layers of ERA, "Kusari Gunsoku" provides 80% of reduction against newest AFPSDS rounds, between 80% to 90% against newest tandem charge warheads, 70% against ATGMs equipped with a precursor charge and 95% against tandem warheads fired from squad level anti tank weapons.

In addition to the passive and reactive protection suites, the Chi-Go is also protected by the “Iron Tide” APS. “Iron Tide” is modular soft and hard kill system designed to operate with the BASTION battle management system and take full advantage of the systems of each specific vehicle it is mounted on.

System components:
1)Main Processing Unit: a high speed compact processing unit with a 3 GHz clock rate. The processor uses a stripped down fast version of a common commercial operating system. The other software installed on it is the “Iron Tide” system. This allows the tracking, classification and engagement of threats detected by the system sensors. The software can use the data from the radar to identify threats and choose which threats to engage and which threats not to engage. It also chooses what counter measure to use against a threat. The processing unit is linked to the BASTION system, allowing one “Iron Tide” unit to network with others. This allows the systems to “warn” each other of threats, protect vehicles that have no loaded countermeasures, and use group smoke screening to protect the entire unit.
2)F/G band radar. Consisting of up to 5 flat panel antennas around the AFV (one directed upwards to identify top-attack threats), the radar is used to identify incoming threats and classify them. Threats are identified and classified in a 360 degrees arc around the protected vehicle, and the information is sent to the APS computer.
3)4 IR sensors located on sensor mast. This sensor identifies incoming projectiles by the thermal signature of their propulsion systems or the projectile itself. The IR data is sent to the APS computer where it is compared to the radar data. The use of IR sensors lowers the chance of the APS being defeated by jammers and low cross section projectiles.
4) A 360 degrees laser warning system. This comprises of 4-8 laser/active IR sensors, which identify laser designators and range finders targeting the AFV. The data is used to alert the team and give the system a “heads up” on what type of threats are about to engage it.
5) 2 twin-barreled automatically reloading, fully stabilized, 360 rotating launchers. The launchers fire fin stabilized 80mm projectiles. The projectiles are combustible and create almost no shrapnel. Exploding less than 1 meter from the threat, the projectile causes it to destabilize and either fall apart in the air or go off target. This method is effective against both CE threats and KE threats. 12 projectiles are carried in the auto-reload magazines of the system.
6) In turreted vehicles- the “Iron Tide” system is connected to the turret traverse system and can traverse the turret to fire smoke grenades if needed (requiring only a confirmation from the commander).
7) Jammers- the system includes both a radio frequency jammer and a laser/IR jammer. The R/F jammer is a high output unit which is programmed to work on frequencies used by radio guided munitions. As the missile nears the protected vehicle, the jammer out powers the guidance signal severing the tie between the missile and its launcher .The Laser and Infra Red jammer is similar to the similar to the RF jammer, and works either by directing false guidance data at the incoming threat or by blinding it completely. The jammers are located in the sensor mast of the system.
8) Commanders control panel- the entire system is controlled through a LCD panel in the commander’s compartment. This panel allows him to select modes of operation, turn different subsystems on and off, confirm turret rotation and decoy launch etc.

Operation: The fire control radar, located on top of the turret, identifies incoming rockets and missiles. The radar data is transmitted to the processing unit. The processing unit ignores birds, small weapons fire and threats that are not bound for the protected vehicle. When a threat is identified, the possessing unit selects the optimal method of engaging it. The system makes this decision based on the threat itself (guidance type, size, speed, etc.), the vehicles status (amount and type of remaining countermeasures, vehicles motion, etc), and the units status (other vehicles being more vulnerable, infantry being near the vehicle, etc). The system than engages the threat with the chosen countermeasure. The system prefers soft-kill options, but if the threat presists the system automatically uses the hard kill choice.


NBC protection for the Type-86 is provided by an overpressure system and individual NBC protection for each crew member. The individual protection is in the form of 4 air filtering systems running directly to the masks and NBC overalls of the crew. The air is not only filtered but also cooled. If this system fails the tank can use the over pressure system along with standard gas masks. The tank is buttoned and an overpressure is created by pumping air into the tank through filters. This keeps contaminated air out and when combined with the use of personal masks allows continued operations in contaminated areas.

Crew and vehicle survivability

The Type-86 has a Kevlar lining in the crew compartments to minimize spalling.

A fire suppression system is installed in the fighting compartment, engine compartment and ammo storage units.
The system has 8 visual and thermal fire detectors and 8 BCF canisters. The canisters are located in the turret (2), driver compartment (1) engine compartment (2) and ammo storage units (3). The entire system is controlled from the gunner’s compartment, with the engine canisters also being operated from the driver’s compartment. Diesel fuel for the engine is stored in 5 tanks in the front and back of the tank, with cutoff valves allowing the use of each tank separately.


The 3 mechanical ammunition storage units are separated from the turret by massive titanium barriers, with a port closing and opening to allow projectiles into the turret when loading. Each 125mm projectile is held in a flame resistant polymer cylinder. Storage of the 80mm grenade ammunition and “Iron Tide” projectiles is also in flame resistant polymer compartments. Each of these compartments has blowout panels to direct possible explosion energy away from the crew.

A mine-protection plate made of titanium is available for the Type-86. This plate weighs several tons and reduces the ground clearance to 25cm, but dramatically improves the survivability of the tank and crew in case of a large explosion under the hull. The crew seats are all of the suspended type, to protect the crew from explosions under the tank.

Mobility

At 57 metric tons the Chi-Go is a rather light MBT. It is powered by a very powerful engine and utilizes a state of the art suspension system to not only be quite fast, but also be capable of crossing the most difficult terrain.

The NMC AVM1500 is a Horizontally Opposed, Twin Turbocharged V8. The injection system is based on pre-combustion chambers, allowing multi-fuel use. Cooling is provided by a pressurized close circuit cooling system. Twin turbochargers are installed to maximize performance. A filtering system is installed to allow operations in fine-dust conditions. The engine has a preheating system for the oil and can operate at temperatures of -46C to +52C. The engine produces 1,500 bhp at 3000rpm.

Coupled to the engine is a semi-automatic hydro-mechanical transmission with 5 forward gears, 2 reverse gears, neutral gear and pivot. Mechanical brakes are built on to the output shafts, which are transverse to the input. Propulsion drive is via a torque converter with lock up clutch, shifting and reversing gear to be shifted under load with planetary gear sets, multidisc brakes and clutches. Steering drive is infinitely variable by a hydrostatic-hydrodynamic superimposed steering system. The transmission brake is a combined hydrodynamic-mechanical brake system as service brake, without parking and auxiliary brakes.

For the suspension, Schwerpunkt turned to the InArm suspension system developed by Horstman. The system incorporates dual piston compressible struts into the suspension arms. The system also has a central control to adjust the amount of fluid in each InArm unit. The hydraulic units act both as springs and dampers, and the system allows the driver to lower and raise the ground clearance given by each arm. In total there are 6 pairs of road wheels on each side of the suspension, with 3 return rollers. The tracks are 580mm wide and do not have rubber soles.


Communications and Networking

The Type-86 has a standard NPS combined internal/external communications system. The system comprises of a main control panel and 4 personal control panels (each crewman and one in the rear corridor), as well as 4 headsets integrated into the ballistic helmets of the crew.

The main control panel is located in the commander’s compartment and allows him to select listening and broadcasting frequencies for himself and the crew, select which crewmembers can hear him and be heard by him, and which crewmembers can listen and broadcast to external radio. The individual control panels allow each crew member to switch select listening frequencies and select which crew members he can hear. The commander’s panel also allows for remotely changing the frequency in the receivers and transmitters. The PTT integrated into the helmet has three modes- internal, external, and quiet. The system has a separate tank commander to driver channel using the most protected battery for power to ensure commander-driver communications. The system also has a wireless ability, which switches on automatically when a helmet is disconnected. This prevents crew members from accidently disconnecting and allows for quick dismount.

The Type-86 can accommodate 2 transmitter-receivers and 2 receivers. The antenna bases are integral and allow lowering the antennas forwards and backwards from inside the tank. A storage compartment for a man portable radio is located near the rear exit hatch. A radio-silence communications system to replace flags, comprising of two IR and regular lights on each side of the turret, allows for minimum use of radio by lower level commanders. The Type-86 is equipped with a tank/infantry telephone located at the rear of the vehicle and connected to the commander’s internal communications, as well as external communications to allow infantry to use the tank to communicate.


In addition to that Chi-Go is fully compatible with a Nifonese C4I/ Battlefield management system responsible for networking units from a single platform up to battalion level. Major components for a single MBT are: C4I computer with proper software, digital tactical radios, navigation systems, intercommunication system, all those linked to LCD display units. Through this network the commander can plan movement, form plans, read military reports and messages, access logistics networks or use tools designed for supporting decision. The entire system runs on a modular, easy to change architecture that can be customized for customer's requirements, alongside full integration with tank's own RWS, FCS and sensors.

Crew Amenities

The Type-86 is equipped to support its crew in long term operations during fighting and when buttoned. A specially designed sun and rain plastic canopy can be raised above the loader and commander hatches to ease waiting periods in harsh weather. An air-conditioning system is connected to the NBC protection system and can flow warm or cool air into the overalls and NBC masks of the crew. A 50 liter NBC protected water tank located in the rear hull is connected to a heating/cooling unit and supplies hot or cold water thorough a tap. Rations are kept in water tight compartments in the fighting compartment itself as well as in the rear corridor. 4 days worth of rations can be carried in this way. The tank has a special storage compartment holding an electric cooking pen, an electric cigarette lighter, plates and utensils.

120 mm Mortar Carrier, Type 27 Raiden

Type 27 Raiden (雷電 - Thunderbolt or Lightning) is a modern mortar carrier equipped with a 120 mm mortar, designed to attack by fire such target like infantry and tank battalion level subunits, battalion and brigade level means of indirect fire, detected command & control infrastructure, recoanissance & electronic warfare means and elements of hostile fortifications. It had been designed with experiences taken from the Annamese war, especially during the fierce urban battle of Hu Lac, where Nifonese battalions lacked indirect fire means. As the result, Murakami Defense Industries has created a concept of advanced mortar carrier, which is currently one of most advanced offered on the market. Type 27 Mortar is mounted inside a 3800 kilogram turret usually mounted on a Type 4 vehicle, with three man crew; commander, gunner and driver. The main component of the system is a fully automatic 120 millimeter mortar resting in a turret of all welded steel (providing protection against small arms fire and shrapnel), with length of 3,000 mm and capable of traversing -3 to +80º. Loading is carried by a fully automatic rammer. Raiden can fire within 30 seconds from the march, and leave the position within 15 seconds, which greatly increases it's chances of survival on the modern, high tech battlefield. Total of 46 120mm mortar grenades are stored within the vehicle - 20 within the turret's auto loader system ready for immediate use, while further 26 rest within the hull.

Raiden had been fitted with finest electronics available, including a ballistic calculations computer, WS 120 aiming system incorporating laser rangefinder and IR camera and automatic targeting system. Within the hull are housed also hybrid navigation system with it's own AXISAT guidance, coupled with advanced datalinking and communication systems capable of directing fire using data coming from an UAV. Raidens commander has at his disposal full set of sensors granting him 360* awareness. The real kicked, however, is capability of semi - unmanned operations. Advanced electronics permit directing fire based only on data coming from the battery command & control, including the ability to direct the entire battery's fire from a specialized RISTA vehicle, equipped with a radar, laser rangefinder, IR camera and sophisticated CCTV means. It is possible due to inclusion of advanced C4I system designated "Chidori" on all components of the firing module.

Type 27 is capable of firing at maximum distance of 12 kilometers, while minimum range is 500 km in direct fire mode. Due to inclusion of autoloader, it is capable of theoretical rate of fire between 10 to 12 grenades per minute. Time of firing from order to completion is 2 minutes. The following choices of ammunition are possible for Type 27:

- HE
- HE-FRAG
- Smoke
- Illumination
- HE, Laser Guided.

Raiden has at its disposal the same protection means that Type 49 can use:

- "Kitsune" multi spectral camouflage system is a revolutionary vehicle camouflage system designed to protect "Ho-Ha" against various threats. "Kitsune" comes in form of camouflage net adapted to local terrain that breaks the shape of the vehicle, greatly reduces the IR signature and protects against radar reconnaissance and target seeking on band from 1 to 100 GHz. Optional elements include a system designed to reduce vehicle's IR signature in tropical or warm climates. It has to be noted that "Kitsune" may be attached either through tapes or be directly integrated on the modular armor plates (specify with order). All vehicles feature standard IR suppressing paint.

- Washi WS - 27 - a soft kill active defense system designed to counter IR and SACLOS based anti - tank guided missiles, being an electro-optical jammer. Major components are two dazzlers, each mounted by the front of the turret to blind Infra-red seeking warheads of ATGMs, a laser warning system, heavily automated control panel with both manual and automatic launch functions combined with own microprocessor, as well as 12 aerosol spray grenades that cover the IFV in a beam dispersing smoke, which additionally allow Type 52 to retreat to safe place.

Instead of being sold individually, Type 98 is offered in firing modules permitting semi-independent operations of the battery. The fire battery firing module consists of:

Type 65 " Chi - Nu " is derivative of the original Type 60 Chi - Nu. Type 60 Chi - Nu was the main battle tank of the Empire of Greater Nifon between 1968, when it had first entered service, to 1997, when Type 89 Chi - Ri took over that role. However, Type 60 enjoyed widespred popularity outside the Empire of Greater Nifon, serving in armies of various anti-communist states in third world, as well as in reserve and territorial defense forces of Nifon itself. Coming against requirements resulting from exploitation of such a tank, Murakami Defense Industries developed an upgrade that would turn the venerable, but still reliable design into a machine that could contend with newest designs. The resulting project, receiving designation "Type 65" managed to fully adopt Chi-Nu to the requirements of the modern battlefield. It could be compared to T-72B3 in terms of performance.

Over 15 000 Type 60s were produced by Murakami during the time it served as Imperial Nifonese Army's main battle tank - thus tanks to upgrade and re-fit are always readily available.

Type 65 features a classical layout: the driver's compartment is on the centre line at the front, the two-man turret is in the centre with gunner on the left and commander on the right, and the engine is mounted on the rear. The turret is oval shaped.

Propulsion: Type 65 incorporates a 1000 HP, four cycle, 12 cylinder diesel engine. Incorporation of this engine is a main improvement over the original 750 HP engine mounted on Type 60 tank - increasing the speed to 70km/h, increasing range to 500 kilometers and permitting major increase in mobility due to low overall weight of the tank.

Protection:

The original "Chi-Nu" fielded only one layer of protection, that being a composite armor of glass-reinforced plastic mixed between several layers of steel, which provided it with excellent protection in those days despite having base weight of only 38 tons. Since then, however, increasing threats made the Nifonese engineers introduce several new layers of protection: that being a Karuta Gunsoku reactive armor and Satsuma active protection system.

The second layer is "Karuta Gunsoku" Explosive reactive armor, being an expansion of earlier ERA designs developed by the Imperial Nifonese Army Technical Academy in Kiyosu. The method of ERA's work is extremely simple; a penetration perforates the outer layer of the box, and reaching them, initiates the explosives contained within. Due to explosion inside the box the outer layer is thrown outwards "from the armor", while a second metal layer is directed "into the armor", then amortizes itself and activates second charge, which forces it back into the direction it came from, creating a time interval between the movement of outer layer and the inner layer, allowing to - despite initiation of the ERA by precursor change of the ATGM - to "catch" the tandem stream by the inner layer. In case of an AFPSDS round such a method causes two instant pressures on the charge. Individual cells have been tightly clad and their spaces directly integrated on the tank's structure, providing unprecedented coverage. The uniqueness of application on Chi-Ri is that two layers of ERA mutually reinforcing each other have been added, further increasing the MBT's protection. While a single ERA layer can take much, two can withstand any punishment offered by modern ammunition. Drawback for such a solution is extremely heavy weight of the armor, but this solution is justified due to low weight of the vehicle. Assessing effectiveness with two layers of ERA, "Kusari Gunsoku" provides 80% of reduction against newest AFPSDS rounds, between 80% to 90% against newest tandem charge warheads, 70% against ATGMs equipped with a precursor charge and 95% against tandem warheads fired from squad level anti tank weapons.

In addition to that the engine area has received additional cover in form of 2Ku77 aluminum based cage bar armor in order to protect it against threat of squad anti - tank weapons.

Third layer of protection is Murakami "Satsuma" hybrid APS system providing complete protection against all forms of threats 360* around the tank. "Satsuma" is in fact split into two parts; first part is composed of two hard kill launchers at the rear of the turret, one per side. This protection measure gathers information about it's targets from two small radars at the turret's side as well as from the tank's main radar, providing very quick reaction time. Second part of the system is designed to counter IR and SACLOS based anti - tank guided missiles using soft-kill measures such as electro optical jammer. Major components are two dazzlers, each mounted at the edges of MBT's turret designed to blind Infra-red seeking warheads of ATGMs, a laser warning system, heavily automated control panel with both manual and automatic launch functions combined with own microprocessor, as well as 16 aerosol spray grenades that cover the vehicle in a beam dispersing smoke, which additionally allow Type 65 to retreat to safe place. "Satsuma" is fully integrated with all other MBT components, including the fire control system.

Optional protection includes "Kitsune" multi spectral camouflage system, which is a revolutionary vehicle camouflage system designed to protect the vehicle against various threats. "Kitsune" comes in form of camouflage net adapted to local terrain that breaks the shape of the vehicle, greatly reduces the IR signature and protects against radar recoanissance and target seeking on band from 1 to 100 GHz. Optional elements include a system designed to reduce vehicle's IR signature in tropical or warm climates. In addition to that Type 65 is fully protected against chemical, radiological, biological and nuclear threats.

Armaments:

"Type 60" was the first Nifonese main battle tank to feature a number of innovations, including a 125 mm gun and autoloader. Based on those experiences, the current armament of this version is a 125 milimeter L51 smoothbore gun recently developed in the Empire of greater Nifon codenamed "Type 21/17". "Type 21/17" on it's own weights 2800 kilograms and has an estimated barrel weight of 500 shots. This gun features significant improvement over the past Nifonese tank guns that were employed up to date. This type of gun features a chrome-lined smoothbore barrel and several other implementations that guarantee it great increase in muzzle velocity and kinetic energy. Theoretical rate of fire is between 10 to 12 rounds per minute while theoretical range of fire is 5000 meters for rounds and 8 kilometers for anti - tank guided missiles.

Following choices of ammunition are accessible at this point:

- A long rod AFPSDS round with an initial speed of 1800 m/s.
- A shaped charge warhead with muzzle velocity of 1200 m/s.
- "Tengu-1" an anti tank guided missile with semi active laser homing guidance, capable of reaching 8000 meters when fired from the main gun.

Type 65 is fitted with a newest generation carousel autoloader capable of holding 32 rounds (+16 inside the hull) of integrated ammunition with length of 1000mm to 1050mm, which permits it to hold all the kinds of ammunition available for it's 125mm gun. This design is a major improvement when compared with earlier carousel autoloader models, for it eliminates it's main drawbacks, such as small capability to magazine ammunition and the design's vulnerability in case of an explosion of the stored material. New autoloader also lowers the time before firing from 9,5 seconds to 6 - 7 seconds. In addition to that, there are 1x 12.8x103mm machine gun (coaxial) and 1x 7.7x41mm machine gun under control of the commander.

Electronics:

Type 65 is equipped with "Sanada" fire control system built by Sumida consortium especially for use on Type 89. Named after legendary Daimyo from Asuka Jidai, "Sanada" was designed to lower the costs of maintenance and radically slash complexity while retaining minimum failure rate and high efficiency. It is composed by two independent fire control computers operated by the gunner and the commander. In case one of them experiences mechanical failure or is damaged, operator can access the second one as a backup and display it on his own fire computer.

Both fire control computers are fully identical and can be easily replaced. With the aid of recent technologies the size of computers has been scaled down so that all the functions an MBT requires can be required though running a proper software on the processor card. An intelligent power distribution unit watches over the whole system.

Both the commander and the gunner posses their own LCD mointors connected to the FCS alongside with appropriate control handles. Each of them is capable of displaying data from the following sensors mounted inside the MBT: gun elevation/depression sensor, turret azimuth sensor, meteorological sensor, muzzle reference collimator, inertial measure sensor, ammunition temperature sensor.

Unique function of "Sanada" is that aside from major fire control components, an inertial navigation sub-unit has been incorporated. It is capable of supporting the FCS with locating the current position, targeting and pointing information. It can be also integrated with all sorts of Global Navitgation Systems, with custom version using SACTO's AXISAT network.

Washi W-04GW optronic sights system designed to engage the enemy at any time of the day, in any weather conditions, as well as when the vehicle is on the move. W-04GW features 3rd generation thermal camera, CCTV camera with multiple zoom options and high resolutions as well as integrated laser rangefinder completely safe for users. This system is fully integrated with fire control systems and battle management systems, displaying status of the weaponry as well as automatically detecting potential targets via their shape and relying them directly to the gunner's station. Two such units are mounted on Type 89 - one of them co-axial mounted above the cannon, second linked to main sensor slaved armament (MSSA), giving it not just hunter - killer, but a true killer - killer capability, allowing the commander to search for potential threats and engage them at will while the gunner mans main cannon & coaxial MG, increasing survival ability in urban environments. Each of those can be elevated from -9* do 20* in axis. Additional optronic sight had been incorporated for the gunner.

Turret's FCS incorporates an all around situational awareness system developed by a Nifonese company named Fujita designed to provide 360* situational awareness day and night regardless of conditions on the battlefield on TV/IR video. Several cameras feed it with images of events transpiring around the tank, and each of those camera feeds may be selected to be displayed individually. Motion detection and crew warning is fully provided, and upon an order the system is fully capable of pointing the RWS or fire control system directly into direction of the detected threat.

Washi IFF-48 has been incorporated just above the gun. This system, operating on frequency of 38 GHz emits a wave in the same direction as the gun is faced. Should the target provide a response, it will be declared friendly. Should the response not be provided, the target is automatically declared hostile.

In addition to that Chi-Ni could be linked with Nifonese C4I/ Battlefield management system responsible for networking units from a single platform up to battalion level. Major components for a single MBT are: C4I computer with proper software, digital tactical radios, navigation systems, intercommunication system, all those linked to LCD display units. Through this network the commander can plan movement, form plans, read military reports and messages, access logistics networks or use tools designed for supporting decision. The entire system runs on a modular, easy to change architecture that can be customized for customer's requirements, alongside full integration with tank's own RWS, FCS and sensors. Citing financial resources of the clients, this function is optional and is not included in standard package.

The CAV 8 project was realized by multiple defense contractors from all around SACTO nations in response to changing situation in the defense market. The time had come where the old fleets of military vehicles, with designs such as BMP-2 or M113 had long became obsolete and as such required imminent replacement. In response to that Murakai defense industries gathered a number of interested defense sub-contractors. Their final product was a cheap, simple and easy to operate 8x8 military vehicle that could be easily procured and operated by multiple nations.

LAYOUT:

- Washi WS - 27 - a soft kill active defense system designed to counter IR and SACLOS based anti - tank guided missiles, being an electro-optical jammer. Major components are two dazzlers, each mounted by the sides of T48 cannon designed to blind Infra-red seeking warheads of ATGMs, a laser warning system, heavily automated control panel with both manual and automatic launch functions combined with own microprocessor, as well as 12 aerosol spray grenades that cover the IFV in a beam dispersing smoke, which additionally allow the vehicle to retreat to a safe place.

ELECTRONICS:

- Washi W-04GW optronic sights system designed to engage the enemy at any time of the day, in any weather conditions, as well as when the vehicle is on the move. W-04GW features 3rd generation thermal camera, CCTV camera with multiple zoom options and high resolutions as well as integrated laser rangefinder completely safe for users. This system is fully integrated with fire control systems and battle management systems, displaying status of the weaponry as well as automatically detecting potential targets via their shape. Two such units are mounted on this vehicle - one of them co-axial, second linked to main sensor slaved armament (MSSA), giving it not just hunter - killer, but a true killer - killer capability, allowing the commander to search for potential threats and engage them at will while the gunner covers the infantry.

- Additional periscope for driver's use.

- Washi CC4 situational awareness system processing data from all others, automatically detecting & tracking targets

- Washi l71 laser warning system

- Washi V48 control handle and V50 video processing unit.

- 360* observation system linked to a display in the crew compartment allowing the infantry to get a clear view of the situation around them.


VARIANTS WITH OTHER MODULES:
- The mortar carrier variant is fitted with a 120mm Type 82 mortar + all necessary electronics. The mortar is fitted on a rotating platform, thus allowing the crew to quickly adjust it. Fitted with a single 7.41 LMG for protection.

- The command vehicle variant offers all necessary systems and carriers two man crew + 8 officers. Fitted with a single 7.41 LMG for protection.

- The armored recovery variant is fitted with a hydraulic operated crane mounted inside the vehicle for purpose of armored recovery. Carries 5 personnel (driver, gunner commander and 2 technicians). Fitted with a single 7.41 LMG for protection.

- Medical evacuation vehicle carries driver, commander and 2x medic with stretchers and place for 4 seated casualities or 8 casualities without stretchers.
