Hero APP:
Name/Alias: Makoto Campbell, AKA Joki
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Personality: "I might be one of the most dumbest and suicidal men out in New York City. I know what I'm doing is going to backfire hard, but what I'm doing is for the right reasons! There are people who have the ability to help the other people out there who are powerless at how there's thugs robbing their stores and killing each other. Even if I have my own logic, you can still agree both of us are fighting for the same goal. Justice."
Joki is more of a neutral good when it comes to being a superhero. Even though he is aware of the hypocrisy of the "no-killing" rule, he wants to still fight crime without leaving people in body bags, since he sees no reason to be killing criminals. Along with this, due to his research from comic books, he is cautious about causing too much damage in his hero antics. Joki sees himself as an everyman who wants to do the right thing, even if people are not sure what the right thing is. He doesn't like the idea of being registered by the government, so they can keep an eye on him, as he worries that the lack of privacy will make him a target, along with any loved ones he is in contact with.
Joki might try to maintain his secret identify, unless he is forced to unmask himself towards another. Outside of his superhero life, he works a somewhat above-normal job at Stark Industries, where he is attempting to find a fiancee in his personal life.
Faction: None, currently.
Backstory: "I know times have changed. But we still need heroes out there! Maybe I can help you."
Makoto Campbell originally grew up in Tokyo, Japan to a single mother in 2007, as both of them grew up as superheroes existed in both their country and others. Since the possibilities of being a superhero have been possible, Makoto had some interest in becoming one, though he was still young to do so, yet the idea stayed. Makoto didn't really knew his true father, since his mother was now married to a U.S Navy soldier, where all three of them moved overseas to the United States when Makoto had finished elementary school. Around that point, Makoto felt somewhat isolated and homesick, since it was difficult to transition between his lives back from the East to the States.
In 2020, he had an interest in the Avengers, though while he didn't understand it at the time, he didn't realize that most superheroes had to be registered by the government due to several laws. Yet, Makoto tried to be heroic in his actions, as he was starting to develop some skills with his intelligence. One day, he came across a kid getting bullied viciously in middle school, where Makoto proceeded to do an act at confronting them.
He got violently beaten up...though it took several days later where the bullies were caught to be suspended.
When high school came around, he was still wondering about life as a superhero, since some serious events happened to some real-life superheroes he knew where he was nervous at the idea of becoming one. After graduating, he learned about Stark Industries, where he labeled it as his dream job after he got out of college, where he managed to get a major medical degree, along with knowledge of robotics and nanotechnology. Wishing his parents farewell as he moves to New York, he had to face the difficulty of living by himself, since the most of the superheroes he knew have now changed, along with a new form of crime in the city. After applying for Stark Industries, Makoto was confronted by several muggers trying to rob a woman, where he rushed over to stop them.
He got violently beaten up..again. However, this time he was still able to fight them back, though he earned a trip to the ER for his actions. The woman did thank him, though.
Having the feeling that the city needs a new group of heroes, Makoto had the full idea of being one, though he wasn't happy when he learns that some of the superheroes were registered, since he wanted some privacy in his role as a hero. Spending a year at work with his skills on hand, he began to make a robotic suit taking inspiration from several shows and comic books he watched and read. Now, Makoto is faced with being a crime-fighter while maintaining his job at Stark Industries, even if the original CEO Tony Stark had passed away.
Powers/Weapons/Tech:
- Joki's Suit: Joki had a somewhat field day when he made his suit. Taking inspiration from steampunk, he crafted his suit from a bulletproof and durable metal, similar to titanium, giving him near invulnerability and durability. The wrapped bandages on his suit were sorely just for cosmetic effect. While he based his suit off of Iron Man's suit, Joki made his own schematics in constructing his own suit. Joki's suit isn't capable of flying, however it has a "hover" function which cancels any downwards force on him. This allows him to have gravity ignore him as a threat, as he can pass large gaps by hovering over them. His lenses which he sees through his helmet can give him different visions, such as thermal, night, forensic, and can even serve as sunglasses if he needs it. He does speak in his regular voice, though the suit gives it a robotic speech pattern to slightly hide his identify.
- Kinetic Powers: While Joki isn't a pro at hand to hand combat, though his fists in the suit can give a nice punch, his suit has some powers he managed to get on his suit to help him fight crime. Activated and using both of his hands, he can use the power of telekinesis to pick up objects and other things, including people.
- Medical Nanobot Gun: With his medical skills in hand, Joki has crafted up an automatic syringe loaded with a medical cocktail of painkillers and zinc in the form of nanobots. If someone is gravely or mortally injured, Joki can inject them with the nanobots. This gives those injured an endurance boost, which will expand their lifespans and enough time for other medical services to arrive to secure them.
- Cloaking Function: A cloaking function on his suit that is somewhat so useless, it is more of a weakness than a good ability. Explained in more detail in weaknesses.
Weaknesses:
- Don't Panic, I'm a Superher- OW!: While Joki easily identifies himself as a superhero, he lives as an unregistered superhero and many people see him as a reckless endangerment to others, despite the fact he is cautious on not causing property damage or collateral damage. Because of this, the police want him arrested, while some superheroes might actually want to fight him. He starts with no allies, so as long that people can trust him, he can overcome this.
- Suit Limitations: While having the suit on Joki is cool, it come with some understandable downsides. Unlike Iron Man's suit that can come in separate parts or nanomachines, Joki has to have his own suit near him, if he needs to use it. That means carrying it around without suspicion. He already found a way to counteract with this by carrying a large duffel bag, but there are still some limitations on the powers his suit comes with. He has some limited nanobots for his medical gun, though he still maintains enough to heal around 10 people. His kinetic powers have limitations that can affect the suit and Joki's overall physical energy. His kinetic powers relies on a power source on the suit that slowly drains, if he uses it for too long or is using his telekinesis on a large object which depending on it's size can actually rapidly drain his power source. He does have some reserve energy outputs, however it relies on his own physical energy. Using the reserve energy will cause him to suffer some harm to him, such as nosebleeds, headaches, lack of stamina after use, and nausea. Luckily, he can recharge his suit and restock on other items back at his lab.
- That Blasted Cloaking Function!: While he may use it rarely, it's more of a drawback than of good use. While it cloaks all of his body, a perceptive individual can still see a shimmer on where he is. What makes this function useless is that one simple punch or touch of Joki when he is cloaking immediately turns it off. And since the function is fragile, some damage to Joki's suit can disable it completely until he can get back to his lab to repair it.
Skills:
Has a medical degree, along with extensive knowledge in robotics and nanotechnology. Is fluent in both Japanese and English. Cares for his job at Stark Industries. Minor anime and comic book nerd.
RP Examples: Ahem, you should know me by now.
Extra Information
Day Job: Employee and Scientist at Stark Industries
Living Place: An apartment and makeshift lab on the top floor of a building in East Village.
