Open Letter to the Prime Minister
To whom it may concern,
Upon further review of the Employment and Education Non-Discrimination Act, I have discovered that a section of the bill is unconstitutional. Section 3C mandates public institutions and section 3D encourage private businesses, to adopt a diversity policy, which would prioritise individuals on the basis of their ethnicity, sex, disability, and possibly other factors to be added in the future. This violates, Article 1, Section 4(1) of the Constitution, since the bill no longer treats the citizens of Saint Hilda as equals, and judges their qualification on a discriminatory basis, rather than on their capabilities.
I am also concerned since the author of the bill Soloman Berggen, is also the Minister of Justice. There will be a sever conflict of interest in further action taken. I have come to you for guidance, but also to request for you to take the actions neccesary to preserve our democracy.
Sincerely,
Stefan Almeda, Member of Parliament for Ny Tromso South

James Penta @RealJamesPenta This house has reinstated my pride in Saint Hilda as it gave equal rights to LGBT couples. This is a great day for our great nation. #MarriageAct RetweetsFavourites 975643 11:55 pm - Aug/1/19 |

Viktoria Ljungstrand @ViktoriaSLP The passing of the #MarriageAct is a wonderful step to ensuring that couples in this country have the equal right to marry. Because of it, me and my partner Erika are finally engaged to be wed. Save the date! RetweetsFavourites 233289 August/1/19 |

Here are the responses we received, in the order they came in:
Lance Darrow, FPP
This Marriage Act is laughable. It tries to do too many things at once, some applaudable, some less so, but does nothing to actually reach any of those objectives.
It wants to secure the right of marriage for the LGBT community. That I can support.
At the same time, it wants to give religious institutions the right to perform marriages, which is something that needs to be halted.
Additionally, it wants to ban polygamal and incestuous marriages. What is the point of doing that? If you want to halt those relationships, make something with some actual strength. Not allowing them to be "married" will still allow them to have relations emotional and sexual. I would say we need to remove it entirely. Why, after all, should such marriages be banned?
If you want to restrict people's freedom to wed who they please, make something with some teeth on it. If you don't stop this nonsense.
This is a feeble and useless attempt to ban relations that shouldn't even be banned.
Stefan Almeda, NPP
I think the bill is okay in providing an public institution of marriage, and the only thing I saw that maybe to change would be all the catagores. It would be best to just specify, anyone whom you are under familiar relation. With this bill, I have found a few issues that we have with marriage today that need some reform, since the divorce is so high.
Sven Svöldsvik, Republic
The Marriage Act is a vital piece of legislation to ensure that the LGBT community of St Hilda, which I am a member of, is guaranteed the same rights as everybody else.
Austin Miller, NPP
I think that the act only accomplishes two major things— establishing how marriage would be conducted in Saint Hilda, and setting the legal age for marriage. LGBTQ rights were already legal, and incest was already illegal. It was important to include those two things in the bill though. Overall the bill is a bipartisan bill that is definitely helpful. If the other MPs see a problem with it they should vote for the bill and then move to amend it.

Stefan Almeda @norske-dog In response to my fellow MPs, I would like to clarify that although we did approve the#EENDA, the purpose was for the majority of the bill which reinforced the pre-existing non-discrimination laws. Therefore, no one would be willing to disapprove this bill on the basis of 3C. RetweetsFavourites NUMBER OF RETWEETSNUMBER OF FAVOURITES XX:XX am/pm - Month/Day/19 |
