At the moment we are caught up trying to fight a rebellion in India. We do not possess any ships that match your description, but are willing to sell you ships in our arsenal. We would also like to ask that you not sell arms to the Indian National Congress since they are violent attackers. I would like to personally apologize on behalf of my government since I did not see your message as I was traveling to the United States and then to India.
Sincerely,
Prime Minister Edward Williams

Regarding arms, we shall not interfere in private businesses selling goods to foreign nations.  We always welcome new trade and would agree to a mutual tariff reduction of 10% on all goods traded between our nations.

A 10% tariff Reduction can be arranged on our end as well. I thank you for your cooperation and will begin to contact the arms companies to purchase the required goods from them. If there are any specific details which the United States wishes to add or to discuss regarding trade, we are open to negotiation.

Uprisings in several cities within the British Raj was threatening to the peace and prosperity of the Empire. An additional message was sent to the British Monarch, this time from the Padishah himself. Meanwhile, general Conscription orders were sent to the villages in Afghanistan to call up an additional 200,000 men. The weapons would need to be shipped to the recruitment centers and mobilization would take a couple of weeks for these extra troop, but it would be needed should intervention into a bordering nation be required. When news of what was taking place in Kolkata reached the people in Afghanistan, there was worry that the Hindu majority in the city would attack and harm the Muslim minority, about 20% of the population of that city.

There were hundreds of millions of muslims in India, and with the rise of this radical brand of nationalism effectively declaring war on non-Hindus within India, Alamgir felt he had an obligation to step in and try and resolve the matter. His ancestors ruled over much of India, some benevolently and some tyrannically, but outside of warfare and open rebellion, there were only a handful of incidents under one or two emperors which could be described as an attack on the Hindu faithful. For himself, while he was growing beyond the age of 50 at this point, Alamgir had openly stated, to his own country, the policy of religious tolerance and had written into law the exemption from the Jizya any citizen which remained law-abiding and paid their other taxes. This, and the implementation of Satrapies in the western provinces, seems to have created a sense of belonging and with the added bonus of electing their local leaders over much of these territories, Alamgir expects little in the way of unrest in the future. For now, however, there was a bigger issue to press on with.

The unrest in the Indian continent has boiled over and erupted into chaos. While my predecessors lost India to yours, we are not certain how much control you are able to exert over the region at present. I had previously ordered 50,000 of my own men to arms near the border. I have called for the conscription of an additional 200,000 men in the Kabul and Kandahar regions. I am asking formal permission to march my troops into the Punjab region securing Multan and Lahore against potential Hindu Nationalists. This region has a large muslim population which the people of my country sympathize with. We also would like to seek an exchange of land should this expedition prove successful. We have recovered the region of Palestine from the Ottomans in the recent past. We would offer you Southern Palestine, and share Jerusalem as a free and open city to all faiths, as well as exclusive oil rights to the TransJordan and Syrian Satrapies in exchange for the lands of Punjab and the Indus River Valley. We simply seek to protect the Muslims living there, many of which were converted to the faith during the rule of my ancestors and are thus my responsibility as a monarch to protect. I would be open to further negotiations regarding this very sensitive topic.

Parliament voted to declare war on the INC and the Ministry of Defense is resuming the draft to recruit soldiers to fight the INC. The reserves were also called into action.

Mumbai, India

10,000 British and 20,000 Indian soldiers were mobilized in front of the Colonial Government Building. The Prime Minister and Governor were in there, and they fled from the back. The soldiers wouldn’t shoot, but if the army tried to shoot them or advance, they would open fire. In the Bay of Bengal five Dreadnaught ships advanced up the Brahmaputra river to stop the Indians from capturing it. The overwhelmed British Empire started drafting soldiers and moving 100,000 soldiers to India but didn’t have the means to defend Nagpur and only about 100 Police Constables opposed the army. The draft would most likely pull at least 2,000,000 soldiers, but it would take time.

Once Venceslau Brás was back in Brazil he contacted the Bolivian Government assuring therm that if Bolivia went to war with Argentina, Brazil would back them up. The Bolivian Government response was that they were mobilizing the military and sending reinforcements to the secluded forts. Several hours later that day came the report that Bolivia declared war on Argentina. The Brazilian response was cutting coal trade with Argentina and Mobilizing their military and sending six divisions to the Brazilian-Argentine border. In Rio de Janeiro anti-Argentine slogans were put up and crowds went to the streets. In Recife some people went as far as burning the Argentine flag. The Brazilian Government issued a draft with 7,000 people mostly men joining the army. Venceslau Brás wondered if this was going to be the thorn. He hoped not. He also hoped that Chile would join Brazil and Bolivia against Argentina. He sent a secret highly encrypted message north.

The entire Kolkata army open fired on the British soldiers at the Colonial Governing building, while resounding Tilak’s words that the Indian soldiers were their brethren, and avoided shooting them as much as possible. They shouted “Swaraj!” throughout the entire battle, the entire army, following years of colonial rule, would charge straight at the British, putting their own life on the line for their revolution.

The Assam division at the Brahmaputra river would set up camp along the coast, and as the dreadnoughts approached, would resort to Guerrilla warfare, firing at the Ships from the forest on its banks, while the rest of the division would capture and pilot much smaller cruisers, which were much swifter at moving to and from the river, to deliver the final blow to the dreadnoughts. Although the cruisers were great in the river, they still lack the sheer size and weaponry, so they would try to bait the massive dreadnoughts into getting stuck in the muddy areas of the river. Most of the cruiser pilots were crudely trained, but grew up near the banks of the river, and thus knew the ins and outs of the terrain and the river’s geography.

Meanwhile in the Eastern Ghats, the divisions of Kolkata and Bhubaneswar would meet up and start the charge to the Ganges, waiting for reinforcement cruisers to arrive from Bengal. The division would retreat into the woods while waiting, and be on the lookout for incoming British forces. The guerrilla tactics employed by the revolutionaries in the Eastern Ghats would be used by most other revolutionaries armies retreating outside of major cities.

In Western Punjab, in the city of Lahore, the rings of revolution had finally arrived. The Muslim Indians in Lahore would take up arms and enlist at the INC recruitment center in Lahore. However, on this day, the leader of the Revolution himself, Lokmanya Tilak, who had earned the title of Saheb of the Revolution (Great Leader of the Revolution), was making an appearance in Lahore. He had spent the last week traveling up from Pune to Lahore, where he would be making his first public appearance since starting the revolution. He would be giving his speech on the 28th of January, largely targeting the Indian Muslim community, alongside the leader of the Muslim wing of the Indian National Congress, Tariq Khan.

Pune, India
The Commander in Chief of the INC’s Revolutionary Army was quite a peculiar choice. Subhas Chandra Bose was a young man, but Saheb Tilak had seen potential in him, the young man’s intense nationalism and patriotism, as well as a keen knack for military affairs had convinced the Father of the Revolution himself to make Bose his protege. He commanded the army from Pune, but another key part of the revolution was media, propaganda to arouse the masses. Kesari and Lokatantra, the newspapers that aroused this, were now being the most publicized in the subcontinent. Bose contributed daily columns to the newspapers, encouraging Indians all over the subcontinent to rise up against the British and fight for their freedom.

That day, Bose had received an encrypted telegram, but the telegram was from one of Britain’s rivals, Austria-Hungary. He knew this was the opportunity to strike a massive blow to the British, as if the revolution succeeded, Britain would lose 75% of its economy and well over half the empire’s population. He could not let any opportunity for help by, he replied accordingly.

Afghan-Raj Border
February 1, 1918

With the borderlands being somewhat ambiguous, it is unknown when exactly the armies of Afghanistan crossed over the border into Punjab. Many of these people were only recently subjects of Afghanistan and before that of the Timurid rulers of the Mughal Empire. The troops declared themselves liberators of the region and were here to protect the people of Punjab from the radical Hindu Nationalist who had titled himself as Lokmanya Tilak, but was known as Bal Gangadhar Tilak. To bolster their forces, messages went forth to the All-India Muslim League to arm themselves to defend against the unsympathetic Hindu majority.

The Army was split into two groups, a larger force of 35,000 heading towards Lahore with a secondary force moving towards Multan, where little resistance from the Hindu Revolutionaries was expected. The City of Multan was a known supporter of the Muslim League and had a very small Hindu Minority and even the Sikhs in the city were a minority on par with the Hindus there. The 15,000 strong force sent to Multan was equipped with modern weaponry and made up of professional soldiers, unlike the conscripts which were being assembled in Kandahar and Kabul to the north.

The Larger force was prepared for heavier combat than the smaller, with twice the artillery and machine guns of the smaller force, the 35,000 were commanded by the third son of Alamgir, Prince Babur Timurid. He had a recognizable name and was a competent general within the Iranian Army already. Now he would have the field in Punjab with his professionals and soon a large reinforcement of conscripts to face off with these Revolutionaries. Fortunately he would be operating in a Muslim Majority region where there had already been fears of persecution by the Radical ideas of the Congress's current leader. The army found itself at the edge of the Hindu Kush on February 1st overlooking the vast lands flatlands of Punjab and its many rivers. They could be in Lahore in a matter of days without distractions, though Babur was expecting some kind of resistance before he reached Lahore.

Tehran, Iran
January 30, 1918

With war on the horizon and his own son likely at the head of it, Alamgir kept himself distracted in Tehran. His dealings with the British Crown that had caused his father to go into exile wasn't particularly his preference, but they had been the victors of the conflict and no manner of negotiation would get them to cede the whole of Mughal lands back to him. However, this current situation suited him well. He could reclaim some of his ancestor's lands in exchange for lands and oil rights in the western portions of his empire. Jerusalem was a holy site to Christians and Muslims alike and he knew the British could parade the Liberation of Jerusalem around Europe and gain enormous prestige from doing so. While in fact it was being held as a protected and free city. It suited both countries nicely in his opinion. During his musings he had one of his advisers arrive to discuss his family's rise to Iran's throne. They had an outline prepared for a historical book of his rise to the throne and wanted to get his official approval on it.

The adviser began reading out the outline to him.

1845 - With the decline of the Mughal Empire and it not holding more than ceremonial power at this stage, a son of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the Mughal Emperor, was given the throne of the Emirate of Afghanistan after Wazir Akbar Khan died leaving the heir to the Emirate as the exiled Emir Dost Mohammad Khan. With Mughal forces backing the claim, Emir Akbar II was coronated in Kabul and began his rule peacibly.
1857 - The Sepoy Rebellions in India lead to the end of the Mughal Emperor and most of Akbar's relatives, however, he has his own family safely in Afghanistan at this point.
1860 - Large numbers of Mughal Supporters flee to Afghanistan.
1863 - Alamgir is born to Akbar and his wife
1879 - Akbar II dies fighting in the Second Ango-Afghan War. Alamgir becomes Emir of Afghanistan at the age of 16.
1880 - The end of the Anglo-Afghan War sees large sections of the eastern most portions of Afghanistan ceded to the British Raj
1887 - Future Crown Prince Jahangir Shah was born in Kabul before the family makes its way to Tehran. Should he see the throne he would become Jahangir II Shah following the Mughal dynasty's previous rulers.
1896 - The Shah of Iran is assassinated by a revolutionary. His son succeeded him.
1899 - The New Shah, though largely ineffective as a ruler, was also assassinated quickly sparking a wider constitutional revolution in the country.
1903 - The Constitutional Revolution was somewhat successful, but with the inability to actually take Tehran and a new Shah having never been coronated, as the next in line could never reach Tehran through enemy lines, a cease-fire was called.
1904 - Emir Alamgir is invited to become the Shah of Iran and takes on the title of Padishah of Iran and Afghanistan.
1912 - With rule cemented under his belt, Alamgir is officially coronated as the Shah of Iran. Soon after, the First Balkan War broke out in Europe. Using the pretense of freeing Mesopotamia from harsh ottoman rule, Iran invaded.
1914 - War with the Ottomans ended. The Balkan War was short and bloody in Europe, but the invasion of the Ottoman territories in Iraq and the Levant were significantly less difficult. An uneasy alliance with the rising Saudi Kingdom. during the war kept Ottoman forces divided and eventually cut off from Istanbul. The peace treaty ceded a huge swath of sparsely populated land to Iran ranging from the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains to the Arabian Deserts and the Levantine Coast.
1916 - Breakdown in relations with The Saudi over which portion of the desert was ceded to which party leads to a border skirmish and the cecesssion of a large section of the Arabian Desert to the Saudi Kingdom.
1918 - Tensions remain high between Iran and the Saudi Kingdom. Unrest in the British Raj and the remnants of the Ottoman State fill the minds of the ruling elite of Iran, meanwhile Alamgir's age is progressing and the Crown Prince himself is stepping into some small roles of governance within the interior of Iran.

After nearly an hour of discussion and revisions to correct chronological mistakes, the outline was approved and sent to the writers to prepare the full document for Alamgir's later approval.

About the six divisions not trying to go OP or godmode that since irl there wasn’t a huge grand amount of people. It was like anywhere from 600-800 infantrymen per division. "Independence or Revolution!"

Inspired by the speech of their leader Emile Ngube (whom they had built a cult of personality around), the peoples of the Congo were roused to revolution. Within the next few days, the Congo Revolutionary Forces would target the coast, cutting off supplies from Belgium, releasing in a massive ambush around the town of Boma. Boma was a particularly important position, as it not only was the main port city on the Congo River (except for Leopoldville), it also controlled the only supply routes from the westerly ports. Over 25,000 Congo troops were assigned, directly led by Ngube, to conduct the ambush. The troops were planned to flood into the city, waging a guerilla war against the outnumbered and off-guard Belgian forces, which many predicted would be over in hours.

It was time. The 25,000 surrounded the city, ready to assault in. Approximately 500 troops, the most elite of the CRF, snuck in, conducting a subversion operation which caused about 5,000 to join them, as the town hall of Boma was in flames within minutes. Ngube caught the Belgian troops in a catch-22. Go in the city and they would leave the outskirts exposed, fighting a battle from two sides. If they stayed in their positions guarding from the 24,500, they would fight a much larger and much more organised force within the city later on, as revolutionary fervour was expected to spread like the fire which took the town hall. The port was bombed by a few "pirate" ships of the CRF, preventing reinforcements. The Belgians were now completely and utterly stuck in a horrible situation. What would they do now?

Boma, the Congo...
The battle ranged as Peter Vandenbosch sent an urgent telegram to Leopoldville, Enemy attacking Boma, unknown number of rebels, many casualtys.
Meanwhile, general Armand Huyghé had organized his 2,000 man garrison to defend Leopold.
The attack had come as no surprise to the sometimes paranoid general, what had come as a surprise was the size and boldness of the rebels.
"Ready, aim, fire! He yelled to his gunners.

As for the other two, aimed at the boats in the river, one hit its target as the other one splashed harmlessly into the river.
As that was going on, the rifle men were firing volley after volley, as the lone machine gun sprayed bullets at the rebels.

The rebels on the outer walls, emboldened by the machine gun fire, begin to dismount their gatling guns and use them in a manner similar to modern miniguns. They used Ngube's new urban warfare techniques, hiding themselves effectively in small fireteams which operated swiftly under trained but low-ranked corporals. They were designed as a method to outmaneuver the bulky, Napoleonic armies of Europe, fighting as guerrilla units which penetrated enemy lines covertly, shattering their organisation and forcing them to retreat or be killed. The miniguns aided this through suppressive fire techniques, forcing the further retreat of Belgian troops lest they exposed themselves to the fire of the fireteams. They were known as Kuhamia Hakara groups, meaning fast-moving in Swahili. Small, mobile groups which penetrated enemy lines through a combination of speed and cover. It was a novel tactic, but it seemed to work in theory, so why not?

Battle of Boma

"How did they get gatling guns!?" exclaimed general Armand Huyghé. All troops focus your fire on the those gatling guns!
"General a message from Leopoldville," a corporal guns.
"Thank you Achille," he said reading the note,
Reinforcements are on there way, sent word to other powers in regain.

Leopoldville
After reading the message form Boma, general Tombeur dispatched three armed river streamers with 1,000 solders to aid the city. He also sent out the following telegrams...
To all powers near the Congo
Code: Select all
The port of Boma is under siege by well armed rebels. Request any available land and/or navy units respond as soon as possible. If port falls Congo river will no longer be passable.

To all solders in the Congo,
You are here by ordered to abandoned your posts and report to Leopoldville at once.
On way you are to burn everything that can not be carried with you.

21st January 1918

Rebels intercepted the Belgian message, as Ngube orders groups of around 500 people to search the countryside for Belgian soldiers burning land. If they find soldiers in small groups, enough to be defeated alone, then attack them. If they are too big, then mobilise the local population. If there is no local population to mobilise, then take a few volleys and escape. They cannot outrun us.

Battle of Boma

The fast-moving, agile Kuhamia Hakara groups were easily able to dodge the cannon fire, as the ships set fire to the ports to prevent any naval reinforcements. Meanwhile, back on land, the Kuhamia Hakara groups continue their advance, ambushing the Belgian troops, catching them off-guard, as the artillery were targetted. The Belgians were forced to retreat further in...to their doom. The group within the city had finished mobilising and was now an organised force, turning into the same Kuhamia Hakara groups which assaulted the Belgians from behind. The Belgians were now caught in Ngube's strategy. Caught between a rock and a hard place. Only a military genius could get them out of this.

"Fall back to the inner fort and stop firing!" Armand Huyghé yelled to his men.
The battle was going vary badly for Belgium, and nothing short of a miracle could save them now. Well that or some cunning.
Huyghé know that his best chance of survival was to stall the enemy long enough for the reinforcements on their way. So he decide to portended that his men had run out of ammunition then maybe he could entice them to come closer than he could unleash a devastating volley on them. And if not? Then he would just sit there until help came.

While the Belgian Forces were taking a beating General Joao Pereira soon spotted land and tons of smoke. The Brazilian reinforcements had arrived and were nearing Boma. Although they were getting close their ships still didn’t have the distance to provide Naval support. At the Generals command the ships increased their speed to help the Belgians. How much longer will it take so we can provide Naval support, asked the General. The captain of the ship replied with an estimate of several minutes. *Over the ships speakers* “all hands to firing positions, all hands to firing positions.” Within the next several minutes the men got prepared as the ships neared Boma. Soon the captain ordered to fire. In an instant all ships fired sending huge projectiles flaming towards land. “Fire two more times” yelled the captain. The ships fired two more times as they got closer to the port. All 2,100 infantrymen got ready to join the fight on shore. It was going to be their ultimate test.

The Navy

Through the past week or so thankfully the navy's prayers had been answered, the navy would put an offer in for the 2 heavy cruisers Minotaur and Defence of the Minotaur class from Great Britain, but would have to wait to gain the light cruisers from America as their government was unwilling sell any that were in stock and so new ships would have to be ordered from American shipyards instead.
The Minotaur class cruisers would complement the Georgios Averof nicely as they would carry the same calibre guns and were capable of more or less the same speed, and were of the same ship type, although it was apparent to some that a refit of all 3 ships would have to take place at latest by the mid 20's to increase their speed and potentially their AA mountings as the ability to shoot down observation planes would pay for itself.

Diplomatic Maneuvers

The representatives of the empire of Iran also arrived in Athens around this time to discuss the terms of a treaty of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. As Iranian party neared the shore the crowd created something of a din as some blew whistles and flutes, others banged drums, and specially placed brass bands began to play and streamers and flowers were thrown about to welcome the royals of distant and exotic Persia. The nature of the visit was top secret however, as far as anyone outside of government was concerned the Prince of Fars and his royal entourage were in Athens on a state visit and nothing more. However soon people began to question this as they stayed in the capitol and met king Constantine at the palace many times while government representatives also came and went.
Soon the terms of an agreement and drafts of treaties were formed; trade between the two states would be opened up and quickly, quietly, and rather sheepishly the Greek government agreed to halt the funnelling of old stockpiled weapons into the levent and apologised for the trouble. (I was doing this in my first IC post before Iran was accepted because the Ottomans still owned the levent) In the coming days a full set of treaties would likely be agreed upon detailing opening of trade, a port in the Persian gulf, and a military alliance. A royal marriage was also briefly discussed however it proved unworkable due to the need for one of the persons involved to convert to the others religion. Discussions also ran back and forth over other countries that the alliance could also be extended to.

HIGH ENCRYPTION
1. As your government has already responded positively, we hope that we can come to an agreement to purchase two of your old Minotaur class cruisers, the Defence and Minotaur for delivery as soon as is possible. The price we would be hoping to pay would be £200,000 per ship, although we are open to negotiation.
2. For example as you must be aware Greece and Britain have enjoyed good relations since you helped us win and keep our independence from the Ottomans, Storm clouds are gathering and we would propose to join with you in alliance should war with the central powers break out so that either one could come to the aid of the other. Furthermore perhaps our aid in the ongoing uprising in India could be negotiated if you would also be willing to sell 3 light cruisers as well (at a reduced price) on top of the heavy cruisers we're already hoping to purchase.

Alpha group

As the month drew to a close Alpha group drew nearer to the Congo. Amongst the men there was a mixed air of weariness, quiet anxiety, and relief/excitement at finally nearing their destination. Only a few days ago the lead ship ΠΝ Panthir had received news of the deteriorating situation the Belgians found themselves and subsequently the until then relaxed attitude that hung over the convoy had been broken. The men had been made active and ready through exercises and drills on the limited deck space, while the navy crew stood by with a new sense of alertness at their posts. By 11:00am of the 31st the convoy had reached the Congo river delta and begun sailing upstream towards the ever increasing sound of gunfire...
I can't believe how long I've been on this website

On behalf of his excellency Saheb Lokmanya Tilak, we accept this deal and trade shall be kept a secret. Austro-Hungarian ships can make a secret diversion to the Port of Hareshwar, which is currently under revolutionary control, en route to French Indochina.

Mumbai, India

The soldiers were completely outnumbered but were trained better than the INC members. They fired their rifles at the INC members, with some using experimental flamethrowers to start fires outside.

In the Brahmaputra River the Dreadnoughts were successfully lured out to shallow waters by the Assam Division’s cruisers but the turrets fired on the cruisers and the INC’s army. The British Army, in the form of 2,000 soldiers, used this diversion to build a trench and fire on the INC.

Meanwhile in the Eastern Ghats the British were having trouble fighting since they had little soldiers in the remote area. When the exhausted 5,000 Indian army members arrived they shot at the army, but 50 British Mark 1 Tanks arrived behind them, firing chlorine and tear gas at the Indian National Congress soldiers.

London, United Kingdom

Today 100,000 British soldiers left the United Kingdom and will be traveling to India. They will take ships to Africa and march all the way to The Sultanate of Muscat and Oman and then travel by ship to India from there. Until the British Empire can find a better route by striking a deal with other countries in the region, this is the official route from Britain to India.

A no-confidence vote will officially be held on February 10th and the Prime Minister is expected to either lose the vote or resign before then. King George V will also return to the U.K. soon.

Battle of Boma, reinforcements and a description of the fort

still January 21,1918
Boma, Congo

"Reinforcements have arrived!" an excited solder yelled to general Armand.
"Thank God, its the Brazilians! he said with a smile, "that will send them running!"
"But sir, they can't land there soldiers with the docks destroyed."
"True, but with there guns they can hold off any attack on the forts."
The fort was on the north side of the Congo river, with empty fields filled with caltrops was on the other sides, designed to deny cover to any enemy that got into accurate rifle range. Behind this stood two earthen walls were half of the artillery was as well as the machine gun. Yet future on was the main fort, a concrete banker with two naval guns pointed right at the river.
The whole thing was guarded by 1,000 men, a third of which were armed with repeating rifles and the rest with single shot ones.
Another 500 men with one canon was in a secondary fort on the other side of the river, and a further 430 men in the now ablaze town who were trying desperately to get to a fort, and the remaining 70 soldiers ether killed, captured or wounded.

The Same day January 21,1918
General Joao Pereira took his chance. With Naval backup he managed to get troops on land. Waving the Brazilian flag the soldiers rushed forward into the fighting. Slowly but surely more and more soldiers came from the ships along with the ships firing projectiles forcing the rebels to retreat. They made sure that the rebels knew that reinforcements had arrived as well. By Joao’s Command their first task was to liberate the Rebel siege on the Belgians, catching them by surprise. For over half an hour Brazilian troops liberated the Belgians and chased them away, therefore keeping the fort safe from the rebels hand. Joao knew that the battle had only begun. 2,100 Brazilian soldiers may not be enough. An officer came running up to him.” Sir we have identified the ships that were seen awhile ago. They are the Greek Forces. Looks like we aren’t the only ones who responded from the Belgians plead for help sir.” The Greeks huh thought Joao that’s good more reinforcements. Thought Joao.

The Brazilian navy was assaulted just before they landed, as the pirate ships committed suicide attacks by lighting their ships on fire and sailing them at the Brazilians. It was insanity, but it was going to work. Or was it?
