Truthfully speaking though, he still killed 35 people. That isn’t an excuse.
He can’t escape now... I hope.

Japan, which has gun laws so draconian I am surprised that NRA members don't spontaneously combust when they come over here, had, IIRC, 4 firearm related deaths last year. 126 million people, only 4 shot to death.
America had how many?
I believe Japan's stopped other tragedies already and the Japanese public seems to be in agreement with this too.
Minus the talking point, one thing worth noting is that the building DID have a security system in place that possibly would have prevented the arsonist from accessing the building. But, it had been turned off for the day due to a high volume of expected VIPs coming in for a tour.Nanatsu no Tsuki wrote:Nah, make it a long horrible stay in a backwater prison. Or better yet, that he dies in jail of old age while being strung along that he is going to be executed any day now. This man killed 35 artists. He should die a hundred deaths.

That is exactly what will happen, excepting that he will be hanged if he gets the death penalty. Japan does not inform the condemned of when it will happen until the day of. So every morning, when the guards make their rounds, each prisoner must wonder if today is it. Will they stop by my cell today and tell me I must come with them to die.

Cruel, but just. Perhaps he should be taunted with extra fear and unneeded laughter from his cell mates. With this in mind, the families could finally get peace.
