No, because I cross the road when I'm pretty sure that nothing is coming. It's only useful for people who don't do that.

Not really, making these cars less desireable isn't something worth doing in order to protect people with bad road safety awareness.

So what actually makes this an objectively dumb rule, and would you still call it a dumb rule if it came directly from the UK Parliament?

Sorry, missed this:

I've explained why I think it's a dumb rule in other replies, and yes I would.

Honestly, in a world that is used to cars making a lot of noise and using that to determine whether a situation is safe or not, this is quite reasonable. Especially since it's just for reversing or driving below 12 miles per hour. Do you know how many kids run onto the road without looking? Imagine that, but with silent cars. I think this is a reasonable safety measure.

I think I am...the only blind person on NSG.

The reason it's dumb is because the noise that these things will have to make is so incredibly vile I couldn't listen to it for a minute, let alone a longer journey. It'll lead people to avoid buying electric cars in the future, and make the planned phase-out of cars powered by fossil fuels slower. We need to be making electric cars more desireable, not less, if we are ever going to encourage people to buy them.

When you make longer journeys, do you habitually drive below 12 miles per hour?

I made a joke about him being Daredevil, but then a couple of minutes later I realised that I'd picked the wrong magical blind character. Vak's opposition to anything that would help him or people like him makes so much more sense if you read it as coming from a place of deep insecurity. "Fuck blind people" might actually have been spot-on. Fuck all the blind people who make people think he might need help by asking for help themselves.

It'd be interesting to know what those people say on the question of whether NI should be part of the UK or not. And also whether they consider themselves Irish, British, or both. Does no affiliation actually correspond to no opinion in practice? It seems like a difficult thing to be apathetic about.

It would largely be done to what is more beneficial i would say.

There is also the fact that just because you are a nationalist or a unionist, does not mean that you will always be in favour of unifying with ROI or staying in the UK. A lot of people are "Soft" Unionists or Nationalists, and though they may prefer one or the other, if they feel that the other is more beneficial for NI they would vote in favour of it.

There is a reason more and more people here in NI have been getting irish passports ever since the referendum, and why polls on the matter have narrowed more than they have in the past. Also the utter contempt and disregard the UK government and the tory leadership candidates have held for this place the entire time of the negotiations should, in an ideal world, caused more people to flip towards wanting a UI.

Oh dont worry, here in NI people have a tendency to vote for shit that actively goes against them because tribalism.

Good example are young lgbt unionists voting for the DUP despite the fact the party has a monumental track record of hating their guts.

Yeah wanting to be an individual by voting for a party whose members and politicans have compared them to child rapists, how they shouldnt be allowed to donate blood because of their sexuality, how they need therap to be normal, and how gay people getting marriage is an abomination and offensive and how homosexuals are repulsive and disgusting.

Great decision.

Fanfuckingtastic choice that is totally not self harming and not rooted in a bitter tribalistic nature where people are told to vote for parties based on colour and flags instead of policies and whether or not its actually good for them.
