The Warsaw Pact thundered across the Iron Curtain. Six Soviet Armies, backed up by the forces of Poland, Czechoslovakia, and East Germany, hammered into the NATO forces guarding the border. The Americans, supported by the armies of West Germany, Britain, and France, are strained to the breaking point at the Soviet Advance.
It is 1985, and the Cold War has just gone hot."

Attention men! You have recently arrived in Ter Apel, the deployment zone for the5th Infantry Division of the United States Army. You grunts have been training back in Fort Hood for the past few months, and have recently arrived in Germany as part of a heightened alert regarding the Commies across the border! As part of NORTHAG, our mission is to support the British Army of the Rhine and the West Germans against any attack from East Germany. Better DEAD than RED is what they say, and if Ivan ever wanted to get a taste of McDonalds, we'll give them a Big Mac-whoppin' before sending them back to Moscaw!
This is an Alternate History WW3 RP where you, the players, will participate as a combat unit. Missions would be given after the conclusion of an earlier mission regardless of success or failure, and the actions of each unit will likely have repercussions on future events. This is a realistic take on the Cold War gone Hot so act accordingly. Know the limitations of your men and equipment. LAWs won't be expected to penetrate the frontal armor of T-62Ms. This also means a realistic casualty count, to the enemy and by the enemy. I also ask that one use appropriate jargon to the best of their abilities.
Kills will be allowed for the player to dictate so long as self-moderation is employed. Not every bullet/missile/shell should find its target. If this trust is abused then I and my Co-OP will be forced to intervene, something which I hope to avoid.
As an RP where players control units rather than individual characters, you may have a maximum of one Platoon to control. However you'd like to customise your unit is up to you as long as they are within realistic expectations and loadouts. NPC's can be controlled by players to a small degree so long as they are not important to the story. Enemies and Major NPC's will be controlled by OP, Co-OP, or anyone given permission to do so.

1: OP/Co-OP have final say. No exceptions.
2: OP/Co-OP reserve the right to deny any application for whatever reason.
3: No God-modding or Meta-gaming.
4: No directly controlling another player character unless given permission to do so. As stated above you may freely control any and all NPC’s that are not central to any major plotline.
5: Posts must be a paragraph minimum. One-liners are unacceptable.
6: Try to use correct grammar. No walls of text that are not broken up into paragraphs.
7: Be courteous to one another in the OOC. Feel free to be as much of a dick in the IC as you desire.
8: Be active should you apply. No need to be online 24/7 (as I certainly will not be) but don’t go through the effort of joining and never post anything. If you will be gone for any significant amount of time please leave a message stating that you will be gone. Those who do not risk having their characters killed off.
9: You platoons cannot be overpowered. Your men can die and every challenge should be just that, a challenge. Any overpowered actions will bring forth the wrath of the OP in the form of even worse obstacles and outcomes for the whole group.
10: Have fun.
Team Yankee - Firestorm will be using the Unit Stats of Team Yankee the Wargame for most weapon vs armor decisions. Other than that, Freeform Roleplay is highly encouraged. If there is a disagreement on the effectiveness of a weapon against a target's defences, the OP will rely on a Dice Roll to come up with a decision.
The Quick Reference Sheet in Helpful Links provide a rough view of the game's rules. Not all shots are hits, and not all hits are confirmed penetrations. Even if an enemy unit or your tank is penetrated, there is the possibility of a non-fatal kill where the crew bails out instead, and Roleplay Opportunities are given for the player to rally his people to re-enter the tank to OP discretion.
In any confusion, the OP will be the final arbiter on the outcome of actions. The primary goal is to provide a realistic, yet fun experience for players to enjoy an RP version of a Tabletop Wargame.
Results of Artillery and Air Strikes will be decided by the OP as well.
Flavor wise Players can cook up whatever they like according to their whims. However the effectiveness of such weapons will be decided with a light touch basis centered around the idea of Fun, otherwise all conflicts will be dealt with via OP discretion.
Upon the conclusion of missions, there will be possibilities to reinforce one's unit with replacements, or add Allied troops into one's control. The player will still be limited to a single Platoon, but local reinforcements would be available should the convoys be delayed by the War at Sea.

Battalion Commander
Name: Joseph Vandehaart
Age: 42
Rank: Lt Colonel
Appearance: A lean man built with strong muscle, Joseph Vandehaart showed little signs of his age as his endurance outstrips even younger men in his outfit. Standing at 6'4, his imposing build was enough to intimidate even some soft-skinned administrators, something he liked to employ in order to get his men the best he could.
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Biography:
Born to a middle-class family in Louisiana, Joseph Vandehaart was a veteran of the War in Vietnam, and one of the last units to be pulled out in 1972. A graduate from West Point Academy, Vandehaart served his entire life as a soldier in the US Army, being dispatched to numerous units to gain expertise in their fields as an officer required. Serving in the 7th Cavalry in his early years, he participated in the Battle of Ia Drang and several other actions before being transferred back to the United States for training upon promotion for exemplary leadership and discipline under fire. Following his graduation from West Point, Vandehaart was tasked with organizing the 256th Infantry Brigade into a competent reserve unit in Europe. Usually in charge of several battalions, Vandehaart possesses the confidence and ability to lead the entire Brigade against the Red Tide, confident in the competence of his subordinates to carry out orders with initiative.
