Bio
Anastasia is the daughter of the former Allencroft family, a powerful aristocratic family who once had many holdings on the coast of Alba. She was always described as an old soul, preferring the company of books and music to other children her age, and nevr had many friends. However, she was close to one, the servant boy Valentin. Valentin was sickly, and many of the other servants children rarely played with him as a result, and he couldn't really play Red Rover or Hopscotch anyways. So, much like Anastasia, he developed a love for books and the two became close. They would spend their days and evenings together, telling each other stories, talking to the gardener Sam, and learning about the samurai and ninja from the east. Anastasia always particularly like the ninja, and Valentin always liked the samurai, and they would write stories and songs about their favorite characters from the eastern stories to tell each other.

As they got older, Anastasia and Valentin remained good friends, learning to play fiddle together from his mother, and Anastasia would stick up for him when the other kids would make fun of him. On one occasion, while the two walked in town, an older boy pushed Valentin, and when Anastasia told him to stop and hit him, she got beat up for her efforts. Angered and incensed that a commoner would be so brazen as to beat up the daughter of an aristocrat, she went to her father, who told her that she would have to fight her own battles. If she simply had others solve her problems for her and lorded her position in life over the commoners rather than take their lives into account, she would never have any respect from anyone. Anastasia was frustrated, and her eye hurt from being punched, but she took it to heart. With her fathers help she sought out a fencing teacher and began to practice, and started to go out with the game keeper from time to time to learn how to shoot guns. She was excellent at both, but never took any interest in learning how to run a noble house, something that would be required of her soon enough as she got older.

To rectify this, her mother made arrangements for her to attend Ms Grimshaw's School For Girls, far inland and away from the manor and town she had always considered her home. She did not fit in at Ms Grimshaw's, and didn't want to anyways. Her family were new to the aristocratic scene, having only earned their titles in the last generation, and having done so through whaling and fishing. She was uncomfortable in the halls of Ms Grimshaw, where she couldn't smell the ocean air and couldn't see the whaling ships sail over the horizon. The other girls thought she was odd as well. She was of a different ethic group than the girls there, and it was apparent from her different manner of speech to her hair and yes being black rather than the light browns and blondes that most in her nation were. For four years she remained, completing her schooling and preparing herself for what she feared was the inevitable, attending a university. Still, she got along with the music teacher, Mr Dales, and joined the fencing and riflery teams, where she was at the top and dominated competitions. Some of the girls on the team began to be nicer to her as a result, but she had little interest in being any of their friends after their treatment of her upon her arrival.

She always wrote Valentin however, never forgetting her oldest friend. She would always see him at the times she could return home, and the two would show each other the books they had read, play fiddle together and lounge around the library. Every moment they spent time together, and with every set of letters they sent back and forth to one another, Anastasia felt she grew closer to Valentin. Even thinking of leaning against one another in the library as they read in quiet peacefulness was enough to make her grin in the middle of lessons, and the few other girls she was friendly always asked her why she was so protective of the letters she got from him. They all thought she had found herself a handsome prince from across the sea they way she would talk about him, but little did they know it was just the sensitive young man who had been the son of a maid. As they grew older, though he never got less sensitive, he did become more healthy, and Anastasia could see him become more handsome every time they saw each other.

One day, when she was 19 and finished with Ms Grimshaw's, her nation went to war. And in the mail, a letter came, ordering Valentin to report to the capitol for the army. He was expected to fight. The night before he left, he came to Anastasia with a ring and asked her to marry him. She agreed, easily and without hesitation, and the two promised to be wed when he returned from war. However, he never would. They wrote each other every day, until one day in the mail Anastasia received a letter from a man who told her he was Valentins best friend, and that he was informing her Valentin had been killed. It was quick, he told her, a bullet to the heart. His body came home a few weeks later, with a color guard of soldiers. He looked handsome and peaceful in his uniform when they buried him, and Anastasia saved all the letters and stories of eastern warriors they had ever written for one another on the top shelf of her armoire.

She went to university, to study literature, and continued to practice her riflery and fencing. During her time at the University, her family accidentally reignited a centuries old feud with a rival whaling family, the Stills. She was far away from the conflict, but knew that agents of both houses had been killed and they were always circling around one another and snapping at each others heals when they met in Court. One day, when Anastasia was 23, she heard commotion below in the kitchens, and going down to investigate found many men wearing the sigil of the Stills. Some of her families agents were killed, and they were fighting others, the conflict between the houses finally boiling over to an open conflict, one her house lost. Escaping into the rain, Anastasia found her families old friend, Brennan Sallwick, who she knew to be the famed assassin The Crow.

Brennan was a gruff, and often unpleasant mentor, but he tough Anastasia all she knew to take her revenge for the destruction of her house. Though most didn't know it, Brennan had never given up or stopped working as an assassin, and he began to take Anastasia with him to teach her the ways of his craft. She grew better every day, until one day finally she was ready to infiltrate the Stills household to kill Lord Still, their patriarch and the acquirer of her families titles and holdings. She was successful, but also was discovered. She killed more than just Lord Stills in her attempts to escape, taking with her a beautifully carved revolver that Lord Stills had attempted to shoot her with.

Now a criminal in her homeland, Anastasia looked to Lumina, the grand city state, for her safety. People from all over the world flocked to Lumina, and it was a place she could blend into and disappear in. She traveled for months, using the good graces of those she met to get her there, until finally she was in the city. She is new to the city, with only her wits and her skills as an assassin to carry her along. She owns only a few sets of clothes, and a small apartment in the slums that is clean but nothing fancy. She hopes now to use this new city for a chance at redemption, and to start again.

Well, I didnt name either the nation or the war because though the OP makes it clear the history of the world as a whole, it didnt exactly outline any nations. (I assume so that the RPers can create their own.) Anyhow, I wasnt planning on RPing a nation, so I just left that open ended because I was hoping to avoid any conflict with established lore.

I can just make up one with just a name for the sake of the app if thats OK, and I could create a nation if you wanted, but I only saw the one nation that was accepted and I didnt think it really fit my characters background.

Alright, what kinds of things have you got for the lore you already have established? I envisioned the country Anastasia coming from being similar the the British Isles, so are there any nations in this world that are similar to that? Because I get the vibe the city we are RPing in is akin to New York, so I didnt think it would be the best fit for where my character comes from.

Lumina is in the Asian parts of the world so no it isn't in the British Isles. The city is more like like London, Manchester, and New York all merged together. Alba is this world Great Britian and the last major war is the Aygar War which was this world's Crimean War.

Lumina is in the Asian parts of the world so no it isn't in the British Isles. The city is more like like London, Manchester, and New York all merged together. Alba is this world Great Britian and the last major war is the Aygar War which was this world's Crimean War.

OK, so Alba sounds pretty much like what I was thinking. If the Aygar War was the last major war, at what time does this RP take place? And would it be conceivable for Valentin to have fought in that war while Anastasia was 19-20 years old?

The RP's year is 1908.

That war started in 1864 and ended in 1873. We can change the war from major to a more minor one that Alba fought in if ths doesn't work.

Its fine if its a minor war. The main point is that Valentin is killed in battle. The particular battle is a bit more irrelevant.

Just piping here, I think in that case it should be kept as a major war, to maintain its involvement in some of the backstories of other characters and groups.

How about the war/rebellion in this world's version of India? Sibyl lost her husband in that war as he too was a soldier who died there. Still need a name for that state.

That sounds good to me. Shared experiences (losing a lover in a foreign conflict) could also open interaction between Sibyl and Anastasia, which is always a good place to start.

As for names for the India version, why not something like Hindis. That sounds pretty indian to me.

Until a better name comes up that will do. Your character is accepted

It wasn't police brutality, it was the use of force to ensure future Violence wouldn't be necessary. My character totally isn't in it to make people bloody, that's absurd.

Character Application
Character Name: Else Holtermann
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/522156519157137421/577982900054786097/IMG_3028.jpg
Personality: Else performs her duties efficiently and without much remorse, including killing people. She is a huge neat freak, and despite formerly living in Blighttown, always kept her house clean. She kept her current residence in a nicer district very spick and span as well. It is sometimes hard to read her emotions-most of the time she doesn't show them. She is ruthless if you deceive or betray her.
Age: 31
Occupation: Criminal (Hitwoman, smuggler, robber)
Likes: Klaus, money, not being beaten up by other people, security, dogs, jellied eels, her sister.
Dislikes Anyone not Klaus or her sister and brother in law, being in danger, sweet foods,
Skills: Can speak the Vim equivalent of German, athlete-level physical strength and speed, master at hand to hand and knife combat, can use a firearm (Handgun or shotgun) quite well.
Special Ability Else can use ice magic. The way she usually uses it is to incapacitate opponents and hinder their movement, then striking them down with a quick hit or stab. She has a special technique where she makes ice spread along the ground in a radius around her so it can freeze anything touching the ground in that radius, including her victims' legs. While they can't move then she kills them. However she is weak against fire or heat magic which can melt her ice, and the radius has a limit in size (9 ft) and can't freeze anything touching the ground. The technique is most useful for fighting off multiple people.
Sexual preference unknown
Identifying features Her disfigured face half.
Bio Abused as a servant and dumped in Blighttown, Else had to crawl her way up to the top as one of the most powerful criminals in the district, and she survived by becoming ruthless and efficient as a hitwoman. However, when her sister and brother in law died, she moved out of Blighttown and into a better district to care for Klaus. Finally, Else was caught by the authorities and moved to a high security prison.

Else's sister was a famous ballerina in Lumina, and lost contact with her sister for a couple of years. She did not know of her life in Blighttown until she got suspicious seeing bloodstains on Else's clothes and demanded an answer. Ingrid and Else had a fight not long before Ingrid died because Ingrid forbid Else from seeing her and Klaus again. Else also killed her brother in law in a fit of rage after he slashed her face with a bottle while drunk. The police arrested her for the two murders and many more.

Theme Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptJVWT6Oco4
Relationships: Klaus is her nephew. Igrid was her sister and Wolfgang her brother in law.

Character Application
Character Name: Klaus Schmidt
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: https://www.instagram.com/p/BwlCSwyh057/
Personality: Klaus has a morbid fascination with death and ending and depressive moods from time to time. Otherwise, he's an ordinary, happy-go-lucky kid despite living in a workhouse. Very eager to please people, but unhappy about his current condition. He's mischevious and likes getting into things.
Age: 9
Occupation: Workhouse orphan
Likes: Dogs, reading, writing, Else, Uzi, the woods.
Dislikes The workhouse, loud noises, busy parts of the city, Else, Uzi.
Skills: Klaus is fluent in the Vim version of German. He's agile and is very good at pulling pranks.
Special Ability(ies) Uzi is a demonic creature that is living inside klaus as a host. He can come out through Klause's facial orifices as an inky slime but this does not hurt Klaus. Klaus can use Uzi as a second pair of hands, or even use him to fight-when he turns his body rapidly, he can use the angular momentum to deliver a strong slap to opponents with Uzi, strong enough to send an average sized teen flying. Uzi can also charge at opponents with a ram attack, but it has only a 3 foot radius of attack.
Sexual preference homosexual
Identifying features His eyes leak an inky slime sometimes.
Bio Klaus was a normal kid until his parents died and he lived with Aunt Else until Else was arrested. He then moved into a workhouse because he had no parents. At the workhouse, a slime demon named Uzi took up residence inside of Klaus because Klaus provided him with plentiful despair in his soul to feed on. The two soon formed a symbiotic relationship-Klaus would feed Uzi with despair from his soul and Usi would assist Klaus in his daily activities and also protect him, being strong enough to ram off anyone who would try to bully Klaus.

One day, Klaus was clever and escaped the workhouse to wander the streets and find Else. Now he's homeless and taking up odd errands, while formulating plans to get his aunt out of prison so they can run away and have their little house in the woods that they have always talked about getting together.

Relationships: Else-Aunt
