I can't get shit done in the Americas because Britain keeps sticking it's fat nose everywhere on the continents. Talk about frustrating.
This game has been more eventful though, I will say that much. I got Texas again, avoided the Civil War again with ease, and got to colonize quite a bit of British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. I don't know how, but Russia ended up stomping Britain in a war for their holdings in British Columbia so naturally they tried to take mine next - dragging France into the war with them. It was them and Krakow (lol) against me, Liberia, the USCA, and Colombia but Colombia pussied out because France was kicking it's ass. The worst part is I had literally detached an army to help them it, but immediately after I destroyed the French army they backed out of the war. Fucking useless cowards.
France also occupied Liberia, with Russia adding an additional wargoal to obtain Liberia as a result, so I had to go get them out. Beat the French Navy and Army at every battle and ended up occupying their two territories in West Africa. Then I marched my army across the Sahara to occupy Tunisia. The shocking part is it worked, somehow, even though all logic suggests I should've lost my army to attrition.
At any rate, I also seized all of Russia's holdings in North America. I was just about to starting invading Siberia and sending a unit to help the UCSA against some troubling French troops until Russia started suing for a white peace. White Peace. Like, really? Literally the first thing in the war I did was destroy the Russian Army in Vancouver and occupy all their North American territories - denying them their primary objective, because France was occupying shit in Liberia and Colombia this somehow meant that Russia & Co. had achieved "total victory" and so the game was encouraging me to surrender.
B R U H ?
Then I start kicking France's ass, but that's only enough for a White Peace? Come on. That's bullshit. Against my better judgement I agreed just so I could end the war and get back to more important shit because this conflict was time-consuming and dragging on forever. I'm still pissed at Colombia for sucking and then wimping out.
Oh, and now I'm pissed at Britain because they're fucking up my relations with Mexico, the UCSA, and Brazil. With Mexico I don't care because I'm about to try and Manifest Destiny them again, and if Britain gets involved again I swear... Only thing I really have to worry about is Colombia and the UCSA backing them, as they're both allied with Mexico. Of course Colombia is also allied with me so they could go either way.
I gotta say even though I like the game, the way it handles Warfare and Diplomacy leaves much to be desired.

Investing in countries means you can influence them far easier. The New World will usually not have anyone bothering with it until the rest of the world is handled, so after pumping the US full of railroads you can develop the rest of the americas and then usually nobody can touch you on influence as your modifier from investing Vs them not investing will mean you curbstomp them.
It might also be worth allying with the UK and focusing on southern expansionism until the UK gets itself caught up in a major international conflict, then taking advantage of it by invading canada.

When you say "invest" you mean like build railroads and factories in their countries? I was wondering what the point of that was.

But to be more descriptive and helpful, this is legitimately one of the most interesting Dev Diaries I've ever read. They're finally changing things that we've taken for granted in Paradox games. The button-click and all of your problems go away methodology is finally being shot in the face and left to die. Paradox understands the break in immersion that those actions are and pulling a clear 180 against insta-mana clicks. I think the reception towards I:R would have been a lot warmer if they'd shipped the game with these kinds of changes, would've made people think it looks and feels a lot less like EUIV.

Bet you any money this was not supposed to be a "free" patch but half of the first DLC. And they just went into panic mode and published what ever they had finished as free to appease the crowd.

Before we start a fight let me just give you my perspective:
1. I don't preorder games or get on hype trains. Instead I waited to see what actual letsplays and reviews of the game would tell me before picking it up.
2. I looked at those and have seen a game that even by Paradox standards is sparse at launch and generally just not as good a product as to allow it to compete with the ones I already owned, even in their launch state.
1 + 2 = I have refused to buy the game from them.
It really is that simple. If they wanted my money they would have had to include this free patch and a lot more in the original release. And if I don't tell them this fact openly and directly and they don't take it to heart than they won't be getting my money at all, ever. Not for this game or for any future one built on the same model. And as an actual fan of their games I do not want to see that happen.

It's less than a month after launch day and they have a massive game changing patch ready to go. As an actual software developer that works on games I can categorically tell you that thing was being worked on at least a month before launch date. So it's either cut content that was meant to be a DLC later or half a DLC that's being doled out too early.
