Coffee
How popular is coffee in YN?: It is very popular, and drunk by most people.
How often is it drunk, and at what time of day?: Coffee is most commonly drunk with breakfast. In the south and west of the country it is drunk only in the morning and sometimes after dinner, but in the northeast, it can be drunk at any time.
How is coffee usually prepared in YN?: Coffee is almost always prepared with milk and sugar.
Who is coffee most popular amongst?: The vast majority of people raised in Arthropol drink coffee, as well as some immigrants.
Is YN a producer of coffee?: No, only in very small quantities.

Tea
How popular is tea in YN?: Not as popular as coffee, but growing in popularity.
How often is it drunk, and at what time of day?: Tea is most commonly drunk in the afternoon, during a light meal at around 16:00.
How is tea usually prepared in YN?: Arthropolian style tea is almost always prepared with milk, and sometimes sugar depending on taste. However, many immigrants prefer to drink tea without milk and sugar.
Who is tea most popular amongst?: In the northeast and deep inland regions, tea is only drunk by the rich and is seen as a symbol of the elite, as it was historically expensive to be transported overland. However, in the coastal areas, especially the southeast, it is drunk by the majority of the population, but strictly only in the afternoon, as it was cheap due to trade at port cities. Tea is overwhelmingly more popular than coffee among immigrants.
Is YN a producer of tea?: No, only in very small quantities.

National Animal
What's your nation's national animal? Fire Bird
Is it a mammal, a reptile, a bird, or what? Bird/Magical Spirit
Is it in the real world? No, its a fictional animal that's possibly based on the Transaridian Eagle
Is it allowed to be hunted? It doesn't exist
It it near, at, or surpassing human intelligence? It's a fictional animal, but yes, in Victoresian Mythology it is an avatar of the Sun God and therefore far surpasses human intelligence
What does it's flesh taste like? It doesn't have flesh, being a creature of pure light
How endangered is it? Extinct? It doesn't exist and never has.
Is it magical? Yes
How was it created? By magic, technology, evolution, or by a god/goddess?
[b]Is it allowed to be used as a pet? Its not a real animal
[b]Where does it live?
According to Victoresian mythology it lives on the sun, but is occasionally found in the high mountains of Aridia
If one were to kill someone, what would people do to it? The birds never kill anyone, it is literally impossible from a religious point of view.
What are expensive resources you can get from it? The feathers of the Fire Bird are supposed to grant a huge number of magic powers including immortality and the ability to fly. However none of the alleged "Fire Bird" feathers actually have this characteristic. The feathers are occasionally found in the mountains, most of them are actually the shed feathers of Transaridian Eagles.

Coffee and Tea culture in YN
Nation name: The Democratic Republic of Gandoor
Is coffee or tea more popular in YN?:Tea, by a large margin

Coffee
How popular is coffee in YN?: It has a fairly decent level of popularity, finding a restaurant that doesn't serve coffee in some form is rare, you can expect any store that stocks beverages to sell it: in ground, instant, and even canned varieties, and vending machines which sell freshly-brewed coffee are common.
How often is it drunk, and at what time of day?: Coffee is generally regarded as a breakfast beverage, although it's not uncommon for people to drink it when they need a perking up during the day.
How is coffee usually prepared in YN?: It is most commonly drunk with cream and sugar.
Who is coffee most popular amongst?: Older adults, predominantly.
Is YN a producer of coffee?: No

Tea
How popular is tea in YN?: Extremely so, tea is widely considered the national beverage of Gandoor. Due to our nation having both English and Japanese heritage, the notion of 'tea culture' in our nation takes from both the tea culture of the UK and the tea culture of Japan, with both black and green tea being widely drunk and at near equal levels of popularity.
How often is it drunk, and at what time of day?: Most Gandoorese drink tea every day. It can be considered a beverage for breakfast (although coffee is the more common breakfast beverage), lunch, and dinner, although it is most commonly drunk during dinner, with many restaurants offering complementary tea during dinner hours (with a lot also offering it during lunch as well). Indeed, because of the ubiquity of drinking tea with dinner in Gandoor, dinner is also referred to as 'evening tea'.
How is tea usually prepared in YN?: Regardless if it's black tea or green tea, tea in Gandoor is generally drunk as-is, with no milk, cream, or sugar added.
Who is tea most popular amongst?: Everyone
Is YN a producer of tea?: Yes, tea is grown and produced in some regions of our nation.

Are there any micronations present within your nation? What are they like, and what is their relationship with the parent nation?

In Epœcuɒtœ, there are over 200 of them, 5 of which are in the capital alone. They generally have between 20 and 1000 citizens, and collaborate with the national and provincial governments. This is somewhat surprising for a nation with only 5 million citizens. (Don't trust the NS stats.)

Mode of Production Survey
Does the state (or lack thereof) officially describe itself as communist, socialist, capitalist, or other? The Imperial government does not officially describe its economic system, due to an extremely wide range of regional variations making description impossible.

If so, is this describer accurate? Yes. Most States and a few local governments use different economic systems from the rest of the country. 21 States are currently socialist in some form, and Wisconsin and Maine currently have Communist state governments. All three surveys are completed, with the regions that use each economic method stated in the checkboxes. Some states fit into multiple categories.

Regardless of official describers, which mode of production or economic system dominates your society? Social Democratic Capitalism.

(Applies only to the States of Wisconsin and Maine, and the Commune of Portland, Oregon.)

Does your nation have a state, or a class of people that hold power over the rest of the population? State government officials.

If so, is this state formed from the proletariat, a bureaucracy, a small group of conspirators, or something else entirely? Elected by the proletariat.

If it is formed from the proletariat, how is this power exercised in practice? They occasionally overreach and get overruled by the non-communist Imperial government on some issues.

Are members of the state elected? Are they recallable? Elected, but not recallable.

Is the society in your nation described as anarchist in nature? Portland only.

Does your nation possess money, property, a state, and/or classes? Money: all, Property: Wisconsin, classes: Maine, a State: Wisconsin and Maine (Portland nominally has to obey the Imperial government, but not the Oregon government).

If yes, is the State (or lack thereof) dedicated to eventually abolishing them? Maine and the Portland Commune.

Are there commodities (products that are created to be exchanged) in your nation? Yes. There is heavy interstate trade between Capitalist, Socialist, and Communist states.

Does your nation adopt communist principles for scientific, utopian, or religious reasons? Utopian for the Portland Commune and Wisconsin, scientific for Maine.

Does your nation seek to expand communism beyond its own borders? No, though it does not oppose the spread of Communism either. It sometimes supports communist governments, such as helping North Vietnam win the Vietnam War, but only for reasons unrelated to economics.

Please place an X in all boxes that describe your nations implementation of communism.
[Maine, Wisconsin, and Portland] Communist
[Wisconsin] Scientific Socialist (also known as Marxism)
[Portland Commune] Anarchist Communism
[] Religious Communism
-[] Christian Communism
-[] Islamic Communism
-[] Jewish Communism
-[] Other Religious Communism (please specify)
[Maine] Councilist
[Wisconsin] Marxist-Leninist
[Banned] Stalinist
[Wisconsin] Vanguardist
[Banned] Maoist
-[Banned] Mao Zedong Thought
-[Banned] Maoism
-[Banned] Marxism-Leninism-Maoism
[] Primitivism
[Maine] Syndicalism
[Wisconsin and Maine] Titoism

(Applies to States with Socialist governments.)

Is property in your nation owned collectively in some fashion? In six States.

Does your nation retain market mechanisms? In all States except Wisconsin.

Please place an X in the boxes that best describe your nation's socialist practices.
[15 States] Market Socialism
[Portland Commune] Anarchism
-[] Mutualism
-[Portland] Collectivism
-[] Syndicalism
[] Religious Socialism
[Wisconsin] Utopian Socialism
[Arkansas and Nebraska] Right-Wing Socialism
-[Arkansas, Nebraska, and Illinois] Corporatism
-[Banned] National Socialism
[Maine] Syndicalism
[Banned] Left-Wing Nationalism
[Banned] Juche
[The central Imperial Government, and 20 States] Social Democracy
[Wisconsin] Marxism-Leninism
-[Banned] Maoism
-[Banned] Stalinism
[21 States] Democratic Socialism
[17 States] Libertarian Socialism
[9 States] Ecosocialism
[]Other (please specify below)

Is there a socialist party that holds political dominance? There are two, but they don't hold any political dominance beyond the State level.

Is there a state at all? Yes.

Do workers own and control their own workplaces? In 10 states. The mechanisms of worker control vary by state, but usually involve election of upper-level management.

Does the nation seek to expand socialism beyond its own borders? No, though it does not oppose the spread of Socialism either. It sometimes supports Socialist governments, such as helping the Allende government defeat Pinochet's coup, but only for reasons unrelated to economics.

Does your state have an interpretation of socialism that retains private property? Yes, in every State that practices Socialism except Wisconsin.

Would you describe the nation as revolutionary, pacifist, or authoritarian/totalitarian? Authoritarian, but not totalitarian. We are an absolute monarchy, but the people have very good civil rights and have significant input over State governments, which handle most economic matters.

(Applies to all states with Capitalist governments, as well as the Imperial government.)

Does your nation's economy operate on a market system with private property? Yes.

Are economic and political concerns considered separate matters? No. Economic concerns are in fact the primary responsibility of elected State governments.

Does your nation operate on a barter economy? No.

Is the state dedicated to defending capitalism? No. It lets many regional governments use other systems.

Does the state wish to spread capitalism beyond its own borders? No, though it does not oppose the spread of Capitalism either. It sometimes supports Capitalist governments, such as successfully overthrowing Kim Il-Sung and reunifying Korea, but only for reasons unrelated to economics.

Does the state own any public industry, and if so, does it operate under the same market mechanisms as private property? Yes. Imperial-owned industry does not operate under the same rules, but it only makes up 34% of government-owned industry. The rest is owned by State or local governments, which usually operate under the same market mechanisms. Shares of stock are inherited by the state government of the deceased if an heir cannot be located, and most state-owned industry is obtained by inheritance.

Is the political system controlled by the bourgeoisie, a bureaucracy, democratic representatives, a monarch, or other group or individual? A monarch.

Is the nation generally described as anti-socialist or anti-capitalist? Neither.

Please place an X in all boxes that describe your nation's interpretation of capitalism.

The American Empire is a socially progressive absolute monarchy run by the heirs of Emperor Norton. It started off at MT but has rapidly advanced to PMT through interdimensional travel. All NSstats are used, except for tax rate and population. Factbooks are currently under reconstruction.

The country code got included on license plates by default in the 1990s (a blue stripe on the left with the federal flag and LL below it); oval stickers may be included in addition if this is given; vehicles without the stripe require an oval sticker whenever leaving the country.

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

Esparmuran wrote:I'm going to try and answer all the questions made so far, including the theoretical ones in the OP (except the one about colours as I haven't thought about that too much yet):

What side of the road does your nation drive on?: Both. Esparmuran consists of two municipalities, simply called West Esparmuran and East Esparmuran. In the West, people drive on the right. In the East, people drive on the left. There's a long, convoluted reason behind this, but in short, back in the late 1800s/early 1900s the municipalities really, really did not like each other (to the point where a civil war broke out between 1897-1900). During these early times in the nation, each side thought of as many ways as they could to differentiate and stay as disassociated to each other as possible without outright breaking off from the other. The side of the road you drive on was simply one of these ways. Prior to 1903, both sides drove on the right, but East Esparmuran changed to the left side for "geographical reasons".
What real-world nation, if any, inspired yours?: Esparmuran is pretty much just a much smaller Greenland with some things changed here and there.
How old is(/are) your leader(s)?: Prime Minister Jim Oullie is a strapping young lad of 66 years.
What tech-level is your nation?: Despite the country's old vehicles, complete lack of enviromental laws, concerning pollution rate, old fashioned, heavy usage of coal and even whale oil, Esparmuran is indeed set in Modern-Time. It just hasn't had the technological ability to advance like other nations due to it's extreme weather.

What music does your leader generally listen to? Little is known about Prime Minister Jim Oullie's musical tastes, though it's assumed he listens to the Espar music radio station (which mostly plays old rock classics and top charting pop tunes), as do many Espars.
Does your leader play an instrument? Probably.
If he/she does play an instrument, then which one? If you've ever been in his office, you'll see he owns an acoustic guitar, hung up on the wall. Whether he plays it or if it's just for show isn't exactly well known.
If he/she does play an instrument, is your leader particularly skilled at it? You'd have to ask the guy himself.
Anything noteworthy related to your leader and music: If there's anything we know about Oullie and music, it's that he's at least aware of the Espar 70s rock band Meresulten, which he referred to as "legendary" when he made a speech last year about Espar culture.

What type of electrical outlets does your nation use?: Esparmuran almost universally uses Type A plugs, out of simplicity.

The idea behind this thread is great btw.

What side of the road does your nation drive on?: Right, except for some isolated micronations.

What real-world nation, if any, inspired yours?: Papua New Guinea, Switzerland, New Zealand.

How old is(/are) your leader(s)?: Upjøsqa is 85 years old.
What tech-level is your nation?: Similar to Earth in 2030-2050.

What music does your leader generally listen to? Generally classical.
Does your leader play an instrument? Yes.
If he/she does play an instrument, then which one? The piano.
If he/she does play an instrument, is your leader particularly skilled at it? Grade 18, but has declined slightly in the past few years due to arthritis in his hands.

Anything noteworthy related to your leader and music: Nothing.

What type of electrical outlets does your nation use?: I have not considered that yet.

The idea behind this thread is great btw.
