I also had the impression you had blocked me CTOAN, whatever happened to that?

Anyways, on the issue of the hearing:

I honestly don't see this going anywhere. While a good political tactic, Republicans are going to dig their heels in, especially now in a volatile environment, election season coming up, and wanting to please donors for those sweet campaign contributions.

Even if the investigation does dig up something, and Democrats file impeachment proceedings, I doubt Pelosi or the senators will do much with it. I can see Ocasio-Cortez backing the impeachment tho, and even being the leader in the house for it, but she and her allies in congress are a minority in comparison to Pelosi's clout, or the senate.

All Democrats did was dig up dirt, if anything, but that alone won't get people on their side this election if their candidates are worse than Trump. Trump shouldn't have won in 2016, and has no chance of winning against a strong Democratic contender now, but the Democrats can field a trash candidate that people won't back or will back Trump over the horror show of the contender.

It's funny cuz that's the exact opposite of what I said.

Also, note that the Benghazi and Whitewater investigations lasted for much longer than this, so please.

I mean, sure, they have, it's just not exactly "OMG OUR PRESIDENT IS A BASTARD" levels of dirt.

If the best Dems can do is impeach Trump over shush money, then they would have lost steam for the most part because it's like "well guys I guess there was no collusion", even if they don't come out and say it out loud.

Well, yes, but the reason Benghazi and Whitewater lasted as long as it did was because the House and the committees that led these investigations were majority Republican during all those years.

There wasn't much Dems could do to stop proceedings.

Likewise there's not a whole lot that Reps can stop House investigations and Pelosi promised a lot of those.

Right, but then, Democrats have less clout to do so. I dunno, it just seems like the whole investigation stuff is kind of a one-trick pony.

I could be wrong, but it does seem like Republicans took advantage of the fact nobody had done so for political reasons, and now that the cat's out of the bag and we all know why it happened, Democrats are going to be seen on the same level of suspicion.

Maybe try making relevant posts instead of complaining about people complaining about things that you think are beneath you, for starters. Then maybe I'll engage more seriously with your posts.

As it stands, you just come across as someone who complains about complaining in NSG, where people come to complain.

Of course, miss the posts where I actually make an actual contribution to the happenings of today and go for the posts where I criticize your low-quality posting instead.

In 4 years, you haven't changed. You say you want a serious discussion other than whining about irrelevant stuff, the minute I do you go quiet on those.

The investigation isn't concluded, but Cohen's testimony before Congress...

was pretty useless, from what I know, he essentially told us things that we more or less already knew. Yes, the President did shady, shitty, and possibly illegal things. No words on the Russian collusion.

Yeah, but you see...Trump was cool with it when the dude lied before but now that he's setting the record straight after being caught he's a filthy liar who can't be trusted so really, what are you going to believe? The guy who lied for the liar or the liar who lies about being a liar?

What the investigation and the Cohen hearing found was that Trump kinda did something shitty and he is kind of a wannabe mafioso, but I don't think there's anything substantial to impeach there yet. If anything it was a very partisan hearing, so neither side will budge their positions as it stands.

We're going to have to clarify here: we're talking about the concluded Congressional investigation which has yielded nothing and not the Mueller investigation which is ongoing.

This is mostly for my benefit and for hypothetical lurkers

Also Cohen's testimony implied that Trump lied to Mueller but, you know, not that big of a shock.

Read his opening statement, he brought direct evidence of Trump's lying cheating ways.

I mean, it is a big deal, sort of. Just not the kind of earth-shattering revelation most people would have hoped.

It just confirms Trump likes to do shady shit with money, but that we kind of already knew, at this point is mostly confirmation that, well, he does shady shit with his money.

I don't think this is the worst the investigations will dig up on Trump, but I also don't think it'll matter much to Republicans, who are all banking their survival on Trump.
