Recent History
Darmen is a Presidential Republic, located in south-central Rushmore. It has been eights years since the Republic was established, replacing a weak confederacy which formed in the wake of the Kingdom of Darmen's collapse. With a population of just over 7 million, Darmen has a relatively diverse ethnic and religious makeup. Economically speaking, Darmen is currently struggling, with over a third of its working force being unemployed.

Rugby League in Darmen
Darmen's best finish in the Rugby League World Cup came during the 10th edition, as Darmen finished runners-up to the Polar Islandstates following a closely fought 18-12 match at the MacGillycuddy Park, in Ballyfeeaknock, Ancharmunn. Rugby League is the fifth most popular team sport in Darmen, which in many other countries would relegate it to the status of a minor sport. But the 16 team Darmeni Rugby League is among the best in the multiverse, it's teams averaged over 8,600 attendees per match and all but three teams made profits in the 2042 season. The average player salary in the DRL is approximately USD $58,830.

Transportation
Each team will be provided with two coach buses to transport its players and staff as necessary. For the most part this will include travel from Scott City International Airport/the Port of Scott City (where all teams should arrive unless other arrangements have been made with the Darmeni government) to their host city and, once there, from their hotel to the practice facility/stadium. Teams may go on additional sight seeing excursions if they choose, however, teams must pay for these trips themselves. All travel expenses related specifically to practice/matches which takes place within Darmeni borders will be covered by the DRL.

Hotels
Each team will be assigned a hotel in its host city for the duration of the Group Stage by the DRL, and will be reassigned to different hotels as necessary should they reach the knockouts. All hotels will be three star hotels, and the cost of stay will be split 50-50 between the DRL and the governing body of each respective team. For a traveling party of 40 players/staff, approximately 20 rooms will be needed, at a rate of $41 per room, or $820 per night. If this amount presents too much of a financial burden for your union, please contact the DRL as soon as possible to discuss a solution.

All hotels will be equipped with wi-fi and fitness/spa amenities will be made available to the team free of charge. Teams will not share hotels, each being assigned to its own.

Weather
Darmen's weather varies widely. During the period of this tournament, the northern coast (Liverpool to northern Aylesbury) can expect temperatures in the mid-60's to low-70's (all temperatures in Fahrenheit), with some occasional rain showers. Moving inland, the northern mountains (Windsor east of Chippewa across to Bledia Arba) will experience much cooler temperatures, perhaps reaching no higher than the low-50's, with occasional snowfall at nighttime.

Starting with the northeastern coast and heading south (southern Aylesbury to Rogerton, along the coast), temperatures will gradually get warmer as the climate becomes more tropical, with temperatures in the low-80's, occasionally reaching into the 90's further south. Rain can be expected just about each night/early morning and humidity will be present throughout the day.

The southern portion of the country (a triangle from Hendricks to southwestern Kalenda to Western Chuckio) can be fairly warm, but precipitation occurs fairly less often than on the coast. temperatures will be in the low to mid-70's.

Language
English is spoken by 95.17% of the population, so if you are an English speaker, you should be able to communicate quite easily. In the Southeast, Spanish is the predominant language, spoken by 70.44% of that region's population. The third language of note is Legonian. If you're looking to make this trip a little more exotic, then trying your hand at speaking Legonian may do the trick. Be aware though, Legonian is an extremely difficult language to learn, and often makes no sense from a linguistic standpoint, even to those who do speak it well.

Rugby is the third most popular sport in Elejamie, just falling behind football (aka soccer; gridiron isn't really popular in Elejamie) and ice hockey. Although rugby union is the more popular of the two*, rugby league has a small yet loyal fanbase, especially those living inland. As such, the Elejamian Rugby Federation (ERF) has decided to send its best and its brightest from the Hinckley Bank Rugby League aka the HBRL (which replaced the old HBL, with the main change being that the tournament takes place in one year), which is the only rugby league league in Elejamie. Will they be able to bring a trophy home? Or will it be another tournament of disappointment. Let's find out...

* Rugby sevens isn't counted here because a) it's a variation of rugby union and b) the only rugby sevens tournament in Elejamie is the ERC Sevens,
which is more like a warm-up for the ERC (Elejamian Rugby Championship)

Godmod injuries to my players: Y, see above.
Hand out yellow cards (sin bin) to my players: Y. A maximum of two per match (feel free to give it to two separate players or give them both to the same player, although that last one will count as a red card - see below).
Hand out red cards (sending off) to my players: Y. Again, one per match and a two game suspension maximum
Godmod other events: It might be a good idea to TG me first

  • Remember it's AE at the beginning of Paete AEtomir's surname, as AE/ae is a letter in the Iyilim alphabet. Think of it as a bit like "ij" in Dutch. Æ is also acceptable (and it's what I used for the 15th RLWC roster). NEVER write "Ae", as that's incorrect.
  • All ages are taken from start of thread. Also, none of my characters have any birthdays coming up, so we don't have to RP any of that.
  • As always, if any of my players interest you, feel free to send me a TG saying which player you want, which club wants them and any other details (like wages, bonuses, etc.) you think you should mention.
  • "Starting interchanges" may seem like an oxymoron but, unless you choose someone else to take their place, they're basically the four players sitting on the bench for each match.

The team is particularly strong in the back, especially the centres and wingers. Fullback and hooker are weak points. The halves are very good, but there is no depth. Sunada and Kotake are not as good as Saavedra and Fujioka.

Centres and wingers are a more popular position to play among players from Leleia and Yoshima, while forwards are more likely to be from Cote Austral and Finisterre.

The Cyclones, The West Phoenicians International Rugby team last appeared at the Rugby League World Cup 16th edition.

They did not return for the 17th edition and many were scratching their heads wanting to know where they were. The consensus was win or lose it was never a dull moment having a West Phoenician around.

“After a pitiful performance at the Rugby League World Cup 16th edition, which had us failing to progress after a rest of 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss. I pulled the team,” Coach Octavian Bellacourt said, in full agreement with management. “A chef would never send out a bad plate of food, so a coach should never send out a bad team. We strive to set people up for success not failure.”

“We went back to the drawing board. Fitness and skill became our vocal point. Anyone who was not fit enough or catching on to the plays quick enough were removed. Their contracts paid out and new stronger players hired to fill these roles from local leagues. Once we built up the ideal team, we spent the year training them up to be a United team. Fullback Carson Devon emerged as a strong leader, and he was voted in as team captain moving forward.Big and beefy, he has already proven to be a strong full back for the team.

Similar to West Phoenician International Baseball where once you join the international team you no longer play at the national level. Rugby has also adapted this ruling to ensure team unity for the whole unity, avoiding Injuries, bad coaching from national leagues.

They are now back returning for the Rugby League World Cup 18th edition. They landed themselves in group A, where they will take on strong teams like Ko-oren and Neu Engollon which are going to prove a challenge moving forward during this world cup. They will also cross paths with
Cassadaigua, a nation that West Phoenicia has played against in many sports especially locking horns in many Olympic events where they fought for the same medals.

“ We have a strong team this season, my advise is go hard and avoid other teams benefiting from simple silly mistakes.”

Back responsibilities, WCoH preview?

Yoshiman Rugby League is at an all-time high, and the league and the national team look the part. The champions of the last three years have all come from Yoshima, and the State of Origin ended up with Finisterre and Yoshima. It's not like it's a game of chance where Yoshima clubs outnumber clubs from elsewhere, it's a nice 6-6 split in the 12-team league.

As a result, players from Yoshima are better than those from Cote Austral/Finisterre. And that means that the positions usually taken by Yoshimans are better than the rest as well. So, Ko-oren are now at the World Cup as very serious contender with a team that has a noticeably weaker forward pack than in the past, though the backs are immensely skilled. You'll see that in this World Cup, the backs are expected to take up a few responsibilities in the tackling and hitup department. The team is defensive as always, so this will result in a strange brand of rugby league.

For the long term, we need a resurgence of play in Cote Austral (and to a lesser extent, Finisterre). Only that will see the Francophone region return to the level of the Japanophone region - and only that will mean we will have a balanced national team once again. Especially against stronger opponents, we will have a fairly light forward pack. I guess we're lucky that the scrum is useless in league, but in union we'd have had a problem on our hands.

We had no trouble on day one, thankfully. The competition is set up so that you only play your group stage opponents once, so one loss to a close rival means you are behind them for the rest of the schedule - given that they don't give up points in two other games. Maybe it was a good thing that we faced Neu Engollon on day one, because they don't have film on our team yet. The match was extremely close going into the final 20 minutes. Up until this point, Ko-oren were up 2-1 (penalty goal after 23 minutes for Ko-oren, field goal at the end of the first half for Neu Engollon). Ko-oren had the majority of possession and field position - but even then a single interception gives Neu Engollon a free 6 points, provided they can down the ball between the posts for an easier conversion.

The decisive try came after a few sets of hitups, wearing down the defence and identifying exactly where the gaps were. The Dragonflies' possession started on their own 24, on a very deep kick from Neu Engollon. Vales returned to the 30, finally going down for tackle one. Saavedra was closest, and the plan dramatically changed from finding contact as soon as possible, to cutout passes way out wide to Brunet and Satomi. This one went left to Satomi, who found him, together with Ogawa and Bonnet versus three defenders. Next came an offload to Ogawa, who immediately put the ball back to Bonnet, who got a free 8 metres and then dragged the tackler for another 5. Fujioka put the ball back in play, now passing all the way to the right. There was space again, and the Dragonflies were now five metres from in-goal. Two unsuccessful attempts later (Bran and Levasseur, respectively), the ball went out wide again where Nakazona juked his defender and went in for an easy try. He even centered the ball after going in uncontested, then downed the ball in a far better place then where he originally entered the in-goal. 6-1 for Ko-oren with a good chance for two extra. Fujioka took the easy kick, and up 8-1 the rest was an easy grind to keep Neu Engollon away from a try.

The next opponents: Kopyk, West Phoenicia, Ugandan Chungus, and lastly Cassadaigua. The last of that list is our current opponent in baseball. Neu Engollon is also the country our ice hockey team is up against in the WCoH, coincidentally.

THE CHIEFDOM OF COPPER CUPRUM
NATIONAL RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM

This is the first time that Copper Cuprum will be participating in the Rugby League World Cup. Rugby league is the most popular code of rugby football in the Chiefdom, with the Copperite Rugby League being the oldest sporting competition in the country dating back to 1937. Copper Cuprum had been long isolated from the international community since it is a small island archipelago located deep in the middle of the Lazarus Ocean, far from any regular shipping lanes since man first sailed ships. The nation was only discovered by the Fleftic Navy in 1914, when they were searching for the daughter of President Rufus Wole Mensah, whose ship was wrecked in the general vicinity of the islands. Arriving in the capital of the islands, they discovered that Chief Zed had made the President's daughter his queen, generating a sudden alliance between the two countries. And Copper Cuprum was also rich in copper, so that was a good thing for Abanhfleft too...

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation:
The Chiefdom of Copper Cuprum
Demonym: Copperite
Kits: Initially, the Copperite national rugby sevens team was not supposed to wear any kits as ordinary people know them. Instead they would have played wearing only white loincloths and nothing else. However, in the interests of modesty and compliance with the international standard, the Copperite team has elected to wear a new uniform with alternating black and white hoops and black shorts.
Team colors: Black and white
Style modifier: +1.00 (A balanced team with a slight focus on offense)
Head coach: Count Varozke Sifoto (46 y/o, Copper Cuprum)
Notes: It is Copperite tradition to slit the throat of a live chicken before a game and then spread the spilled blood on the field. However, after the Valladar authorities advised the Copperite Football Federation against performing this tradition after local audiences were shocked by this tradition, it has been decided that in place of this tradition, Copperite players will now cut off the head of a rubber chicken before a game and then toss the head around like a hot potato. Originally the Copperites had brought back the tradition of killing chickens but after incidents in which spectators rushed the field to save the hapless chickens, it was decided that the rubber chickens will be used starting from the Rugby League World Cup. The Copperites hope to turn this tradition into their version of the haka.

The Alpine Union beat Greater vakolicci haven

Vogler City, Darmen - (NAP) It's time for the Rugby League World Cup and the Alpine Union is in group D with Abanhfleft , Lisander and Greater vakolicci haven, just to name a few. Our first game was against GVH. Early in the 1st half, Valentin Gonzalez-Bousquet escaped to the right for a try, the conversion was good and the Bisons were leading 6-0. 9 minutes later, Grégory Robin picks up the ball following a scrum and passed to Rachelle NicEòghainn who ran to the end zone for another try. The conversion was good and the Alpines were leading 12-0. At the 31st minute, GVH had the ball in their own territory but they lost it. Aibhlinn Nic An Fhailghigh recovers the ball and passed to Radoslaw Kordzielewski who runs to the end zone to score the 3rd Alpine try of the day. The kick is good and the Reprezentacja Alpejski is leading 18-0. The score remains the same until the halftime.

The Alpine Union is penalized at the 58th minute for holding an opponent who didn't possess the ball. GVH successfully made the 2 points kick and the score is 18-2 Bisons. 18 minutes later, the Reprezentacja Alpejski scored another try when Ogilhinn MacIlleMhìcheil crossed the goal line with the ball. The conversion is good and the Alpine Union is leading 24-2. This is the final score! On matchday two, the Alpine Union will play against Abanhfleft at Dairy Farmers' Association Stadium in Johnho, Darmen.

Pratapgadh landslide victory against Copper Cuprum
Image

Written by Rajeev Chauhan

Pratapgadh has played their first ever international rugby league game, and the result was a landslide victory. Pratapgadh played against another unranked nation, Copper Cuprum.

They weren't able to stop the Pratapgadhi side scorers, which made it easier for Pratapgadh. Pratapgadh scored 1 drop goal, 5 tries, 2 penalties, 3 goal kicks. Captain of the team, Siddharth Agnihotri, said to us "Really good performance against Copper Cuprum, we got really into the game and put all the effort in. I hope to see the same effort against Elejamie in our next game." The coach of the team, Griffin Ascot, said to us "Great effort by the boys, these guys are very new to international rugby league. But still getting a win in their firstever international is surely an achievement. I am really happy to coach these guys."

Many people in Pratapgadh don't know who Griffin Ascot is. He is a West Phoenician who was the head coach of the West Phoenician Rugby 7's team for the Olympics in Republica. He took his team up to quarter finals. The manager of the Pratapgadh team, Brijesh Joshi, was impressed by Griffin Ascot's achievements. He later signed a deal with Griffin Ascot to coach the Pratapgadhi team.

Personally, I was very impressed by our national team. Never expected them to win a game. I wish them luck for future matches and hopefully they qualify for the next round. Whatever the result, best of luck Pratapgadh!

The West Phoenician Cyclones celebrated another victory today in match 2 against Cassadaigua, a rivalry that emerged out of the Summer Olympics in Republica,The Free Republics. That saw a victory of 24-0

The one season rest that allowed West Phoenicia to cut away dead weight and hire a more skilled and competent team. It also appears to have benefited from the extensive training and bonding sessions.

Right Wing Liam White scored two tries for the team in the first half giving the team the confidence to push forward with an aggressive defence in the second 40 minute half keeping Cassadaigua out of scoring range. The key was the strong defence up that became a wall Cassadaigua could not get through to score.
Additional blistering tries in the second half, kept the Cyclones in the win position duel to West Phoenicia finding the widing holes in the Cassadaigua defence line.

With 10 minutes left in the match, Half-Baxk Jacob Lake was penalised for collapsing the scrum. Cassadaigua attempted a cross kick so after, but it resulted in nothing. As the clock wound down, fans knew the Cyclones had picked up a second win. As cheers erupted from the stands.

Coaching staff were happy improving their win rate from the teams last appearance.

In many areas of life people with a common interest like working in the military, the entertainment industry and the sports will often date each other, as they are aware of the lifestyles and schedules and the sacrifices one needs to make. In this case it is Right Wing Liam White who is currently dating Arabella Tennessee, a squash player who had just returned from the Olympics placing 4th in Squash, a 4th place due to losses directed by the Cassadaigua female squash players who had dominated the sport. Fans could see Arabella cheering on her boyfriend and other players as they dominated the match.

The Cyclones are next to play the higher ranked team from Ko-oren that is sure to push the team to their limits if they wish to win this match up.

Near perfect start, and on we go!

The Dragonflies continue on with the RLWC campaign in fine form. After a small 8-1 win over a very good Neu Engollon side, today the team ramped up the score to 18-0 against a much smaller team, Kopyk. Meanwhile, West Phoenicia is rivalling us for first place, having won their two opening fixtures. Round three has a match between the two leaders of Group A, where the bigger scorers of West Phoenicia take on the brick wall of Ko-oren.

Round two was one of massive differences. The smallest margin of defeat was 18, in the aforementioned Kopyk match. West Phoenicia and Neu Engollon won by even larger margins, both won 24-0. It largely seems to be a Group A problem. There has been one other shutout in Natanians and Nosts' 15-0 win over Kriegiersien (they're back!), though only four games ended with a margin of six or less (one converted try) in the entire round. That's to be expected in a sport where a small discrepancy in power can be a huge difference in results: one interception, a turnover, a penalty can give another team an easy six points, and then a bigger team can disappear out of sight very quickly. Also, six tackles to cross the field is just not enough if you never get a new/repeat set near the opposing goalline. Anyhow, there are some decent close battles developing across the four groups.

Ogawa opened the score for the Dragonflies on an interception. The rest of the first half was Ko-oren getting close, turning the ball over, and Kopyk then managed to get out of their own 20, running out of tackles and kicking the ball back to the Dragonflies - and both teams played a relatively error-free game. It didn't help the score, even though there were some shenanigans to exploit the defences on both sides. It just didn't help. In the second half, chasing a 6-0 deficit, Kopyk started to be a bit more adventurous, playing some hot potato tactics you often see when a team trails near the end of a game, not at the start of a half. This led to some knock-ons and other mistakes, giving the Dragonflies the ball near the goalline a few times - until eventually it was Bonnet who pushed through for a second try. The third try happened towards the end of the game, when a winded Kopyk just couldn't keep Brunet out.

If you ever wondered, what is up with the difference between the Rugby League and the Rugby Union logo? They're almost the same, but in League, the blue side is on the left and more noticeable, and in Union, the green is on the left and a little more prevalent. Well, the difference comes from an ancient division between the 12 states (or provinces, or anything) of Ko-oren. Six of these are 'green states', historically part of the Ko-orenite state as far back as the government of Ko-oren goes. The other six are 'blue states', and have always been a counterculture to the central administration. Union is played in green states, while League is played in the blue states. And that's not the only difference between the areas.

Cricket, union, and gridiron's Western division are all exclusively made up of teams in green states. Baseball, league, and gridiron's Eastern division (nearly) exclusively consist of blue state teams. Association football and gridiron are the only sports that transcend this cultural border. Soccer has six teams on the green side, and six on the blue - but that's a little hard to see, because there is not a divisional system in place.

And if you ever wondered why the Ko-orenite flag is blue and green - well, there you go. Green is the colour of the state, the administration, the government as far back as you can go, while blue is the colour of the people, including those that moved to other parts of the country if they felt they could be happier in different places.

Ko-oren, no matter how homogeneous it seems on the outside, is a divided country on language, culture, and sports. Politically and economically, it's a pretty friendly place, it's not that divided. Let's look at some more differences and their historical colours as the World Cup rolls on. Some more 'did you notice's on green and blue, and the third national colour, yellow!

RUGBY LEAGUE WORLD CUP XVIII: GROUP STAGE

Welcome back to yet another edition of the Rugby Rundown! As always I am your favorite gay rugby fanatic Graham O'Doherty. What a mess that most recent Olympics was, yeah? I'm still surprised that we at Gaelic Gamers all managed to get away from Republica with our lives and our dignity. Well, maybe not mine, after that celebrity charity swim-off, but what can you do? Anyway, we're finally back in the comfortable familiarity of rugby league, and while I have to say that I'm more of a union fan myself, I still understand what the hell is going on in rugby league, and I do follow the Copperite Rugby League in my spare time. But enough chat. It's time for the Rugby League Edition of the Rugby Rundown!

Game One: Domalana vs. Abanhfleft
Domalana (2)
Pen:
Bolado (1/1) 61'
Abanhfleft (30)
Try:
Aguinaga 23' c
Kriner 37' c, 41' c
Fury 66' c
Griggs 71' c
Con: Fury (3/3)
Akiyama (2/2)

So, on the first game of the Rugby League World Cup, we the Flefts have made a good case for being able to at least get out of the group stage. Then again, we're up against a relative newcomer to the multiverse sporting scene in Domalana so I really shouldn't have taken this victory for anything other than its face value. But I'm not gonna lie, I was mighty impressed with this team's performance. Fine, be disappointed with how the APOC Coalition fared in rugby sevens and league nines, but don't you dare come at me saying that the actual rugby league team itself is rubbish, because it isn't. I'll fucking fight you, mate. I'm serious. You don't score five tries in rugby league just like that. You have no idea how hard it is to score a single try in rugby league, let alone five! So the mere fact that our boys were able to do just that shows that they've really got something going for them! Okay, I've calmed down. Rant over.

Game Two: Abanhfleft vs. Alpine Union
Abanhfleft (14)
Try:
Rakowski 36' c
Fury 60' c
Con: Fury (2/2)
Pen: Akiyama (1/1) 73'
Alpine Union (18)
Try:
Kordzielewski 54' c
Thornley 68' c
MacIlleMhìcheil 79' c
Con: Robin (3/3)

And now we come to the game where we have all been brought back to the ground. Abanhfleft versus Alpine Union. I don't think if this is a really big rivalry for us, but I think it's a bit of a thing in the Alpine Union, although don't quote me on that. Sid Rakowski, after 36 minutes, finally got the scoreboard ticking after breaking through the Alpine defense, but once he scored, this became a tit-for-tat contest where it soon became apparent that whoever scored a try in the last minutes of the game would end up being the winner. And it did indeed unfold that way, with some dude named... Ogie... Odie... Ogilhinn MacIlleMhìcheil! Scoring the final try of this game. Definitely not helped by the fact that Grégory Robin scored the conversion to give the Alpines a four-point lead, meaning that Abanhfleft would have to score a try of their own if they wanted to get at least a point out of this contest. But, surprise surprise, they didn't. And now we've got a bit of a mountain to climb ahead of us. Not really sure if I'm looking forward to climbing said mountain, but what can you do about it? It's not going to climb itself. Perhaps it's because we all know that either Abanhfleft isn't gonna make it out of the groups at all, or even if we did, we're gonna get our arses handed to us by whatever newcomer team or middle-ranking side in the first round of the playoffs. So that's my take from the Rugby League World Cup. More to come where that came from. XOXO from Graham...
