The Response to Terrorism
Ambode's term as president started off with a bang, literally, with the Abuja Bombing killing several Nigerians. In an effort to sustain solidarity in the nation Kinsley Moghulu's last major act as president was a mass funeral for the people who died during the attack and the announcement of the National Memorial for Victims of Terrorism. Ambode's first act as president was the announcement of numerous mandatory security installations in public places including malls, market places, and stadiums throughout the nation, inability to provide private security would mean that police forces had to be allowed on the premises. Furthermore Ambode has announced tighter weapons restrictions describing them as fan to the already large fire that was crime in Nigeria. Ambode announced an ambitious plan to move the country toward a gun policy more like that of japan, meaning the government would gain total control on ammunition and people only had the ability to own the firearm itself, automatic weapons were banned for private use unless given a Class 3 Security Waver, meaning you were part of a PMC or private security force. Ambode took steps to integrate private investigative services into the police department by offering higher wages and better benefits, this meant that the best investigators around the country left their investigative firms and moved into the police industry.
Ambode also spots problems in the religious divide that is still mending and has decided to put ads on TV and the internet sponsored by the government that will encourage religious unity, in a speech in Maiduguri he cited the main reason Nigeria has struggled to develop is the massive divisions that once strangled the country, he gave the now famous quote "The days of tribalism and colonialism are behind us, it is time to become Nigerians." Ambode also looked toward possible ways that terrorists could be getting funding, instituting financial checks on many oil companies, and doing background checks on many of the countries elite. Ambode announced very recently that for terrorism and crime to be eliminated, poverty and illiteracy had to go, he has announced a plan to begin developing the region of west africa in order to combat terrorism across the region, hopefully having an effect on the homefront.
Nollywood Rising
With the new film incentives and numerous film studios throughout the country finishing construction its no question that film studios have organized. But whats surprising is how quick and efficiently this has happened without any government involvement. In late 2027 finalization of numerous smaller one or two director film studios signing agreements to join together quickly jolted the Nollywood film industry. At this point the film inudstry can be divided between 7 major production companies: Moonlight Pictures, AOB Studios, Split Films, Bedouin Pictures, Southern Studios, Luka Nigeria, and Sarafina Pictures. These seven studioes announced the creation of the Nigerian Motion Picture Association or N-PAN for short, along with this came the creation of three film unions the Film Makers Union, Producers Union, and Directors Union; as well as the creation of a Nigerian Rating system: Infant 0+, Youth 7+, Teen 12+, and Adult 17+. This is all in order to organize the industry to prepare for the National Studio Auction in the summer of 2028, in which the government will auction off the studios it built throughout the Lagos Metropolitan Area ot the various companies. N-PAN announced it would begin programs to sponsor young film makers and organize a path fro them to get to the top of the industry. They also lobbied for the illegalization of pirated content in the government, and now all official film merchandise will have the M-PAN logo somewhere on the cover of it.
The organization of the industry has prompted the creation of Two Nigerian players in the professional technology industry, these being Marmalade and Pokka. Marmalade is Nigerian camera, microphone, and lighting manufacturer that recently announced its first line of cameras and lavalier mics, while they have yet to match the quality of Red Studios sets they are quite a bit cheaper and in a world where most countries don't have a very rich entertainment industry, it's expected they'll find success. Pokka is a combatant to film streaming services, the first of its kind in Africa, Pokka has bought out many of the film rental stores in their hometown of Ibadan, and have sold or rented most of these stores out for a markup, this funded their ability to start a DVD Mailing service akin to what netflix has, and they have plans to release an online streaming service by early 2029.
Biafra: Strife to Startups
With Lagos, Ibadan, and Kano the cities of big business, and the country side being an Area of farming and oil drilling, many of the other major cities have been lacking in major businesses, the government announced plans to make the former Biafran region one of startups not strife. Creating an easy business application system and laxing local banking regulations to allow for riskier loans to be made, along with this came a locally funded investment campaign into electrical and telecommunications infrastructure and the modernization of many local ammenities including the outdated downtown of Port Harcourt which hasn't seen a new tower constructed since the 70s. The municipal government in Calabar announced plans to make the city a Gambling hub and has begun to lobby for tight gambling regulations around the country, however in the mean time the local government has created a program to help relocate gambling to the city including tax breaks and subsidization. The city hopes the money brought in from these early moves will be enough to jumpstart the modernization of the city. In the lesser known cities of Benin City, Onitsha and Warri, banking and service has become big to support the international oil companies with hubs here.
