Seriously though, you can't underestimate how many straight folks would rise up in defense of gay people. It'd be more than not, I expect.

I think it'd be more than those who support LGBT rights, if only for fear that they'll be next.

I'm sure this far-right nightmare will be talked about in LGBT history classes one day. As well as the far-right nightmare that the LGBT have already had to go through in the past two centuries.

Yeah it seems a bit odd to just focus on individuals.

It definitely will be. We still have some lessons to be learned.

Yeah it seems a bit odd to just focus on individuals.

Especially if they do not have the background to understand why those individuals are important.

Yeah it seems a bit odd to just focus on individuals.

I wouldn't mind it focusing on certain individuals in the past few centuries. There'd be a way to bring them into the conversation, such as the many ways people in the past had to hide their homosexuality, or the societies in the past that were tolerant and even accepting of different sexual and gender orientations and whatnot.

It's the former, and while I would prefer something stronger, it's a pretty decent first step.

Black history month was non-existent in my school. Instead we focused on African American individuals throughout my history class as they fit in.

I actually don't think it is that great a step if that is all that is going to happen.

This is a pretty textbook example of flaming. Seeing as your most recent ban for attacking other users on this site came to an end less than a month ago, I think it's fair to say that you haven't yet learned that, around here, hurling abuse at other users is not acceptable. And so we go again.

I’m not sure if you are aware, but LGBT people and their allies can be found in the same army and police that would be used to quell those rebellions.

No, no, clearly bigotry that shows a resounding lack of critical thinking skills isn't cringy compared to friendship and camaraderie, duh.

Sorry to hear that, but it is still what is done.

Why wouldnt the contributions of Alan Turing be appropriate during hurray for the gayz week?

Because he would fit very well into a history of World War 2, and I like how they worked African Americans throughout our history rather then just grouping them together during 1 month. Gave them context and made us really get why they are important.

Why would you need both? There is a limited enough time as is, no need to teach the same thing twice.

That's more off-putting than truly cringy.

I mean, teaching the gay rights movement and the contributions of gay people as a shot unit would be very nice.

But you can mention Alan's contributions without going into his being gay. You cant get away from the blackness of Sojourner Truth when talking about her.
