Personality: A bookish person that loves to read about the history of magic. He can be reserved and not say much if it is not needed, though he can be sociable if he wants to. Ikram has a code of honor based on his clan's code and can be stubborn with things he is passionate about.

Biography: Born in Aqaba, Jordan to an old mage family, the venerable El-Amara clan. Being born with his family's signature white hair, he was set on learning the ways of his clan. His clan is a specialized group that focuses on recording and preserving history. Mainly magical history though they are faced problems in the past and priceless records were lost. Ikram was raised along with his siblings in the ways of magic, and any could train in any magic they wished along with a good education. He chose to learn the magic of his clan, Rune Magic.

At eighteen, Ikram was going with other members of his clan on expeditions to recover the history that the clan lost. Taking him from the Middle East, Africa and many more. Enjoying every second of it and things took a turn while investigating a lead in South America. As he was securing an artifact, a group of magical mercenaries attacked the site. He managed to protect the artifact but, suffer several injuries, and his mother almost died in the process. Ikram along his clan tried to track down who hired the mercs and later found the same group of mercs attacking their other dig sites.

Two years later, still no avail on who is attacking their digs sites and Ikram was frustrated at the lack of process. During a night of digging for information, A mark of unknown design appeared on his right hand. His parents knowing full well what that sign meant. They convinced him not to worry about clan's problems and focus on his higher calling, being a hero. He was sent to the Marked One's academy as soon it was possible.

  • Holy Fire: As if Aureo has been granted power by the Light Goddess herself, he can create and control fire that is not the normal kind, but of the holy kind. This fire cannot destroy physical protections such as armor and does not even harm them, but instead passes through to deal damage at a rate of 50% of what would be dealt to an unarmored target. To defend against this kind of attack, magical protections must be used. Physical protections will simply be passed through. Additionally, this attack does not cause physical injuries, but injures the spirit and therefore requires magic based healing to recover from rather than traditional healing.
  • Dark Resistance: Attacks cast using black magic will have their effects reduced by 50% when targeted at Aureo. Additionally, holy fire will burn through magical defenses projected by dark magic at a rate of 35% the normal speed.
  • The Goddess' Armory: Aureo has the ability to create weapons through summoning, which requires some time but can be done within the space of one to two full minutes. More advanced weapons other than traditional magic blades or human rifles may take more time, but generally, Aureo can summon any individual weapon that he can conceptualize mentally. Of course, this means that theoretical weapons and the such do not work in most situations. If a weapon can't be understood, it just won't work when it's summoned.
  • Restoration Fire: Aureo's flames also work for healing, but not just healing, restoring. Restoration flames can be used on things such as broken objects and structures to restore them to a previous state. However, just like injuries, they have to be newly damaged for the repairing to work.
  • Magic Detection: Aureo has a very strong ability to detect magic users along with their types of magic within a 300 yard radius.

Weaknesses: Aureo's attacks are based on fire, which doesn't kill right away and rather injures slowly, even if his attacks are immune to physical armor. He's not the best in a fight that comes down to just firepower versus firepower. If you want to beat him, he's vulnerable to overwhelming force. Additionally, he's a specialist at magic based fighting, not at physical and scrappy fights from close range. Get into his face, and his skillset is less effective.

Equipment: Aureo's weapons seem to change with every battle, but his favored ones are bows with armor piercing capabilities as well as incendiary arrows that can be used along with his holy flames. When it comes to swords, Aureo prefers larger and heavier ones which can do more damage with a swing despite leaving more openings. Additionally, Aureo wears light metal armor in battle.

Personality: Confident, assertive, and certainly bold, Aureo is the type to believe that the world already belongs to him... According to him, that's the only reason he cares about saving it. Aureo tends to do what he wants. But in this case, what he wants happens to align with what the Marked want. For now.

Biography: Where is Aureo Mercurius from? Nobody is sure of that. Aureo wields light magic in a way that some of the great houses could even be slightly jealous of, at least for someone of his age, but he doesn't appear to have a lineage that would suggest such skill. Actually, his lineage is a complete unknown, and while the Seeker located Aureo in Greece originally, it didn't seem like that was where Aureo had actually been born. The mysterious figure had been found searching for artifacts, according to what he said. Before going to Greece, he had scoured Northern Europe for them, crossing into Southern Europe after failing to find anything.

The mysterious Aureo also battled against demons multiple times during his travels, for reasons that remain to be seen. He became known, however, as a demon killer who had helped clear out European villages of their problems with demons, vampires, and other supernatural beasts that weren't supposed to be there, as well as malicious dark mages who use their abilities for the wrong purposes. By the time Aureo arrived with the Marked, it was said that he had slain eight demons, an impressive number for someone not even connected to the Church, who had a relatively young age and wasn't from a notable mage family.

So, who is this stranger? Well, that's something that will work itself out.

Ok, I'll make a character like that. Probably going to go with someone who uses earth magic who focuses on being able to take a beating and deliver AoE attacks

Edit: Either that or Pyrrhic and do something like being able to replenish mana faster the more they get hit instead of the other way around

Latter is possible; pyrrhic doesn't care from where the blood is shed, so it can be your own. Or you can potentially combine the ideas.

Enchantments & Protections; Or, Not Getting Turned To Red Mist

Hello and welcome to Arcane Radio, hosted by yours truly, Gehilfe Richter! Here we study all kinds of magical concepts and talk about the latest news in the world of magic, but today, we’re going to be focusing on something that’s considered one of the basic cornerstones of magical combat… Enchantments and protection spells! The fact of the matter is, humans aren’t the strongest or most durable when it comes to a battle between mages. It doesn’t take much of an attack to seriously hurt a human body. Fire mages have their flames, earth mages can throw around heavy stones, light mages can burn while dark mages can use an almost acidic type of shadow to strike with. And that’s not even getting into their weapons or projectile based abilities.

Enchantments, or alternatively, protection spells, help keep you safer against these. Your bare skin isn’t going to do anything to protect you against attack and you can expect a high level weapon to go straight through your basic body armor. Even your heavy armor isn’t going to protect you against some magical attacks, such as cursed blades and the like. That’s why you should use your own magic to counter this. This can come in a couple of forms: enchantments, which can be offensive or defensive, and protections, which are purely defensive. Let’s start with the latter.

A protection spell is one of the basic ones in the arsenal of a mage but the strength of the protection directly correlates with the strength of the mage. A weak mage will produce a weak protection while a strong mage will produce a stronger one and an average mage will produce an average one, and so on. Such a spell covers the entire body typically, or it can cover a single object. However, a protection spell doesn’t carry the same qualities as an enchanted item. It only lasts until the protection is broken, and all damage taken in the affected area of the spell will contribute towards breaking that protection. For example, someone that applies a protection spell while wearing armor and then takes a serious blow while wearing that armor may notice that the spell has dropped to 10% strength. Of course, each protection spell has a mana cost that can be classified as medium in terms of cost.

Enchantments are more time consuming but more customizable and can be stronger. They are created by channeling mana into something, for a specific purpose. An enchantment can be aimed at generally strengthening something or it can be targeted for a specific type of magic, depending on what the enchanter knows. For example, a light mage would be able to enchant an object to defend against darkness based attacks, a water mage could enchant something against fire based attacks, etc. Items can also be enchanted to be more effective against certain types of magic, which again is dependent on the type of magic one knows. Enchantments can be applied against magic types that are SIMILAR to the magic type of the enchanter.

The process of enchanting is time consuming and requires one to channel mana into an object, typically using an engraving tool while writing words into an object. This is not necessary but aids in the flow of mana. As a general rule, one can expect to spend a lot of time on an enchanting project, which fortunately can be broken up over multiple periods of time rather than done in one go. Enchanting a dagger typically takes an hour, a sword or helmet would usually take six hours, while a chestplate for a suit of armor would usually take ten or so hours with other smaller pieces taking lesser amounts of time, around the four to six hour range. Once an enchantment is done, however, it applies for the life of an object. Be warned, however! The flow of mana must be kept consistent during the enchanting. Too little mana, and the enchantment simply won’t work. Too much mana, and the object will fracture and explode from the infusion of too much energy. Enchanting is a skill that requires focus, desire, and hours on hours of practicing to master.

The quality of an enchantment also depends on the magical skill of the enchanter. Here’s a rough idea of how enchantment strength corresponds to overall strength as a mage. The same applies to protections.

Level 5 Mage = 20% Increase
Level 6 Mage = 25% Increase
Level 7 Mage = 30% increase
Level 8 Mage = 35% Increase
Level 9 Mage = 40% Increase
Level 10 Mage = 45% Increase
Level 11 Mage = 50% Increase
Level 12 Mage = 55% Increase
Level 13 Mage = 60% Increase
Level 14 Mage = 65% Increase
Level 15 Mage = 75% Increase


With that, you should know everything that you need to know! Of course, there are exceptions to the rules, such as demons and other divine beings, which generally have different sets of rules at times, but that should be enough to teach you the basics. Happy fighting, and remember, if you have to ask, the enemy is probably stronger than you and you should use all the magic you can to gain an advantage!

Magical Abilities: (Rozika makes use of the lost Animus school of magic, allowing her to manipulate life itself around her and use the environment to her advantage. Her magic visibly and practically corrupts things such as plants and the nearby wildlife, bringing them under her command and letting her use them against her enemies. This also extends to using the environment to detect her enemies, and to perceive the things around her. This kind of magic is also capable of corrupting those who come into too much contact with it, allowing for specific types of attacks to do this. Additionally, it enhances the physical abilities greatly of the one using it, beyond even dark magic. That is to say, Rozika fights like a demon, or even above one in terms of physical capability. On top of the Animus magic, Rozika has a decent offensive skillset of traditional dark magic.

Equipment: Rozika carries two weapons, a sword and a lance. Both of them seem to be divine weapons, granted special capabilities. The lance, named Kiba, is capable of slicing through magical protections and spells with a complete effectiveness, meaning physical means are the only way to defend against it. Additionally, the spearhead of the lance has the ability to cause those that it hits to discharge mana before interrupting their production of mana for a span that can last between an hour and a day depending on the severity of the wound and the length of the contact. The second weapon is Taiho, a sword which has the power to channel mana from the user into a destructive and high speed blast which will head in the direction of the point of the blade, capable of hitting with the force of an artillery strike.

Personality: Rozika is willing to do whatever she has to do to survive. If that includes working with unsavory sides, so be it. Generally, she's a shoot first and ask questions later type of person who has been hardened by the realities of being a mercenary.
Biography: Born in the nation of Croatia, a place under the Dalmatian jurisdiction of the Church of Light, Rozika Herceg was naturally talented with magic... But didn't have the means to pursue it much. As a result, she received her training through more shady means, becoming a mercenary and working under a mercenary company for years before going independent with what she had learned, eventually moving to Japan and finding herself working for a very profitable employer who offered her not just good pay, but taught her magic that had been lost and gave her access to weapons that were not just powerful, but divine in nature... She was wrapped up in something larger than herself, but she went along with it. Not being an ordinary mercenary did have downsides, yes. But this bigger job, it also came with a lot of benefits. And that was enough to keep Rozika involved.

Personality: Chelsea's a person of steel; she comes off as a cold, uncaring professional, hard, merciless, a zealot almost for the cause of the Church of Light. Under that, however, she is a rather caring person for those who she gets to know, but especially her family and her closest colleagues within the Inquisition. If torn between them and the Inquisition, she honestly doesn't know where her loyalties would fall.
Biography: Chelsea was born in Canada to the last member of the Thornhylle family, a woman slowly dying of dark magic, and a demon specifically summoned for reproductive purposes, which was something of a tradition for the rather isolationist Thornhylle family. She had a second daughter, Kelly, before she finally died, and the two newly-orphaned children were left in a house with only an old family friend that neither of them remember the name of, but taught them dark magic but told them never to speak of what they learned from them.

At the age of 12, the friend left, and the pair were left at a Church of the Light school, where they would spend their teenage years learning light magic and being introduced into the faith of the Church of the Light. They both worked hard, throwing themselves into their studies, both becoming devoutly religious or at least acting as if they were, as if compensating for their hidden nature as half-demons.

They both entered into the Holy Inquisition upon leaving, their power, skill and zealotry, along with their family name, catching the eye of various individuals within the Inquisition. In the case of Chelsea, it was a young Leo de Inferenza, an old and proud mage family. They married soon after, and the pair became a highly effective fighting team within the Inquisition. They had a family of three daughters, intending to train them to follow them into the Inquisition. Chelsea raised them, temporarily retiring from the field before returning to field service after all three were old enough to be taught by other instructors.

Probably going to go with someone who combines pyrrhic and earth magic whos able to create rock-like armor where the more its physically damaged, the more mana he recovers

Black magic can provide demonic physiology which is basically similar to strength enhancement, although it doesn't make you bigger in most cases but more efficient.

Hey, would a sorta transmuting-er kinda mage be something allowable? Kinda a Kevin Levin by way of an earthbender by way of turn everything into metal?
