Xi An, Central Jazado, January 15th, 2019

It was a long day, hot, but a gentle breeze would occasionally give the workers a break. Almost all the homeless people in Xi An were put to work, a new construction project by the government to increase housing space in Xi An and something to give the locals jobs. Alike the one in Kizil, the Chinese government sought to create more space by creating underground facilities and housing, a great idea but also back breaking work, sometimes literally but as of now it was just a joke between the workers. It was night and makeshift barracks were created by the construction sight to house the workers but most of them found their way to the nearby pub. Laughing and drinking was how these merry men spent their night.

“Hey!” Zuolin called to the bartender. “I’d like a drink.”

“Sure, what can I get ya?” The bartender asked.

“Maotai, the 53% not the 49%.” He answered,

“Hard drinker huh?” Said the bartender as he poured the man a shot.

“Yeah” Zuolin answered as he lifted his drink.

“So, you one of the workers or just here to drink your problems away?” Asked the bartender.

“A bit of both.” Zuolin answered as he chugged down his drink.

“So, you want another one?” Asked the bartender as his eyes followed Zuolin’s cup.

“Why not.” He answered as the bartender poured him another glass.

“So, you’re one of the homeless people who came to drink your problems away.” Enquired the bartender as the only workers at the site seemed to be the homeless people.

“No, just unemployed, they were offering fifteen Aurums an hour, free housing too if you were homeless. For me they just lowered my rent.” Answered Zuolin. It was true, the Chairman had called for all homeless people who were unemployed to be forced into work, each being payed ten Aurums and hour (Which was minimum wage) but were also given free housing. For the unemployed, extra help was always needed and appealed to them with lower rent and fifteen Aurum pay.

“I see, you know you guys are lucky, the government payed for a thousand Aurums worth of liquor to be served here to the workers when they asked, though they’ve managed to spend about half of it in one night.” Said the bartender.

“We’ll always find new ways to either drown out our problems or have a laugh.” Replied Zuolin.

“Well I get payed either way so keep on spending.” Said the bartender.

Space under the city was to be cleared out for the creation of more housing for the homeless and to provide more jobs for unemployed people, it was also the way the government was planning on lowering the price of housing in the city. This was not the only construction project to be at hand, factories were being erected on the west side of the city, goods such as phones and computers would be assembled there, components like processors and storage units would also be created there. Work on such projects had already begun in Hongkong, they were doing the same thing in that was going on in Kizil but in Hongkong instead. Mountains being hollowed out to create more room for housing and provide more jobs for the local people. As a matter of fact housing prices in Kizil dropped by 7.42% when they opened up a new residence area there. Jazado was being developed even more, they had even started to industrialize the rural areas in west China, near Tibet. Soon Jazado would rise, and it would rise higher than the sun.

RCNS Aurora Borealis, Ebrilondian Coast

"Sir, a package has come in for you from Amurria." A steward stopped Michael on his way to the mess hall.

"Leave it in my quarters. I'll open it after mess. You are dismissed."

"Aye, sir." The steward hurried down the hall. Mess was fresh-caught salmon with a side of mashed potatoes and mixed greens. Michael finished his meal and headed back to his chambers. A package was sitting on his desk, unopened. He tore apart the packaging, and inside was an ornate wooden box, engraved with the royal seal of Amurria. He opened the box, and inside was a medal and an unopened scroll. The medal was engraved in Amurrian and Japanese, with a orange and white ribbon. He unrolled the scroll and read it.

For service in the name of democracy and the protection of the ancient system of government named monarchy, Admiral MICHAEL STEINER, Commander of the RCNS Aurora Borealis and Admiral of the 3rd Pacific Fleet, is hereby awarded the Medal of Honour of the Imperial Guard.

Signed,
Head of the House of Edo, Emperor of Amurria, Guiding Light of the Amurrian People, Emperor Yamato

Beneath the text was the imperial chrysanthemum of Amurria. Michael took out the medal and affixed it to his dress uniform jacket, and pinned the ribbon to his Battle Dress Uniform. Rescuing princesses does have its rewards, he thought to himself

HIMS Kamikaze, Nagasaki, 1908

"Captain, His Imperial Majesty Emperor Mutsuhito has arrived, shall we begin the opening ceremony?" asked Johnathan Smith, one of the sailors on the newly built passenger ocean liner Kamikaze, the biggest civilian ship ever built by Amurria at the time. It's design was created with the help of the British Royal Navy, before their Empire succumbed to rebellions soon after. As such, some sailors on the ship were of English origin, and the ship itself was to make a grand voyage from Edo, the capital of the Empire of Japan, to Southampton, the British Empire's greatest port, as a show of friendship and fraternity between the two nations. On 4th of June 1908, this giant ship began it's journey. It's first stop? Akarea.

"Yes, begin the ceremony." the Captain, a man in this late 40s, remained in the Captain's Deck, tuning in to the local radio, where the Emperor's speech was broadcasted, and waited for the signal to begin the ship's engines.

People of Japan, people of the British Kingdoms and territories,
I, Emperor Mutsuhito of the Empire of Japan, Guiding Light of the People, announce the beginning of the HIMS Kamikaze's journey on the great blue seas, on a long voyage to Southampton, the home of Britain's greatest ships, and greatest minds, without who we could not have built this magnificent vessel. Thus, you, citizens of these two fair nations, may embark begin embarking.

With this the Captain gave the order to start the ship's engines, and soon, it was full and ready to leave. Many people gathered on the shores to wave at the passengers of the ship, which, after a few minutes, left the Edo Bay, and began it's long journey.

"First stop: Akarea" the captain thought. "Maybe we'll go to New York after we reach our destination."

Royal Candanadian Air Force One, above Kyoto, Amurria

"Your Majesty, Mr. Chancellor, we will be landing in fifteen minutes." A stewardess came and approached Maxime and King Richard.

"Very well. Ready, Maxime?" King Richard turned to the Chancellor.

"Visiting Amurria twice in a week? Frankly, I'm thrilled." Maxime grinned. He was in a dark blue suit, with his military decorations pinned to his chest. On his lapel was the white maple leaf of the Order of Candanadium. The King was dressed similarly, but his lapel pin was in the shape of the three crowned maple leaves on the white field bordered by blue, the emblem of House Magnar. Maxime looked down at the sprawling metropolis beneath them, glimmering in the sunlight.

"I, for one, am glad for a change in scenery. New Konigstadt gets old after a while." The King remarked.

"Oh, you never miss home until you've been away for a while." Maxime had spent a few days with his family back in Deepwood Hall before leaving for Amurria again. The Crown Prince had recommended that he stayed home, but Maxime insisted that it was his duty as Chancellor to be seen with His Majesty during state visits, and that had been the end of that. Prince Herman was on the second floor of the plane, inspecting the Royal Guardsmen before they landed. Forty of the King's Royal Guardsmen had come with them to Amurria, the cream of the crop of the Candanadium Defence Forces. Prince Herman had wanted to serve in the Royal Guardsmen, but the King and his cousin Tobias had insisted that he finish university before re-enlisting in the military.

"This is your captain speaking. We are on our final approach to Emperor Meiji International Airport, please make sure that your seatbelts are fastened and that your seat back is upright." The captain's voice came over the intercom. The captain was a grizzled Air Force veteran, having flown alongside some of the best fighter pilots in the world on AFN exercises and joint exercises with Jazado. It was his tenth year flying the RCAF One, and there had been no mishaps under his command.

"First time in Amurria, Your Majesty?" Maxime asked as sat back down and fastened his seatbelt.

"Yep. Last time I was in Asia was back when I was visiting my mother's family in Jazado. That was the first time I met our Jade Dragon, who was just a Jade Hatchling back then." The King chuckled. He had no surviving family members on his father's side, save for a nephew and a few distant cousins. The Jazadoan royal family had been in New Konigstadt just a few weeks before, and they had made the historic New Konigstadt Pact, a renewal of the alliance between Jazado and Candanadium. Queen Alyssa von Wagner was seated beside Maxime, and Maxime had often wondered that if she was related to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. She was polite and reserved, while the Minister was straightforward and direct. They had almost nothing in common, despite being from the same House. Another part of being a noble I'll never understand, he mused to himself.

The plane smoothly touched down on the tarmac, its speed decreasing until it began a steady taxi towards an official-looking terminal building not far away, with Amurrian and Candanadian banners draped all over it. An honour guard had been assembled before it, lined up beside a rolled up red carpet.

"Your Majesty, Mr. Chancellor, and ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Amurria." The captain's voice came over the intercom again. The King got up, fixed his suit, and headed for the door with the Queen beside him. Maxime followed them and glimpsed Prince Herman heading down the stairs behind him.

"Mr. Chancellor." Prince Herman greeted him.

"Herman. Where's your sister?" The King asked.

"She's coming. Ella! Hurry!" Princess Ella von Magnar came rushing down the stairs, fixing her Candanadian flag lapel pin.

"I'm coming, geez, Herman." She complained. The royal family was gathered at the door, and Maxime stood behind them, beside Field Marshal Saltcliffe and Ethan Wagner. He had left the Minister of Defence, Sir Markus Pearson as acting Chancellor back in New Konigstadt. The doors opened, and the royal family made their way down the steps. Maxime waited until the King had gotten to the bottom before heading down himself. An honour guard had been assembled, with a band behind them. An officer barked a command, and the honour guard snapped to attention and presented their arms in salute. Two women made their way down the red carpet, one of them is the Prime Minister, Maxime knew. He had exchanged a few work emails with the Prime Minister of Amurria, one Asano Isuzu. The other had to be the Shogun, two of the most prominent women in the Amurrian government.

"Your Majesty, welcome to Amurria." The one on the left said. "I am Prime Minister Asano Isuzu, Honourary Member of the House of Edo. This is Meiya of the House of Tokugawa, Shogun of Amurria. On behalf of His Majesty, Emperor Yamato, we extend our warmest greetings." Maxime shook her hand, and the King kissed their hands, as was customary in Candanadium.

"Well met. This is Her Majesty, Queen Alyssa von Wagner, Queen Consort of Candanadium. Beside her is Crown Prince Herman von Magnar, Knight of the Order of the Maple. His royal sister, Princess Ella von Magnar, Princess of Summerhall, and finally, may I introduce His Majesty, Richard of House Magnar, First of His Name, King of Candanadium, Defender of the Dominion, and Shield of the True North." Maxime gestured.

"Your Majesty. We are fortunate to be graced with your presence." Replied the Shogun. "You must be Chancellor Bernier. I understand you were in Amurria a few days ago?"

"Indeed I was. I met with the Prime Minister regarding the situation in Ebrilond."

"Ah. We have prepared a band to welcome your arrival, if it please Your Majesty."

"Please, carry on." The King smiled. The conductor of the band raised his arms, and the band started playing the familiar melody of The Maple Leaves Forever. The King stood at attention with his hand over his heart, and the Crown Prince saluted. Maxime stood at attention beside them, and when the anthem was concluded, it was followed by a more solemn piece, the anthem of Amurria. Kimigayo, Maxime remembered. The anthems ended, and the party followed the Prime Minister to three waiting limousines with Candanadian and Amurrian flags on the hood. Maxime glanced past his shoulder to see the Royal Guardsmen unloading via the rear doors, and stepped inside one of the limousines. Where have all the men gone? He wondered. He knew it was an old-fashioned sentiment, but as far as he could tell, women held some of Amurria's most important positions. Oh well, it's not up to us to question their system of governance. He concluded, and looked out the window.

To Her Excellency, Caitlin Richardson, Leader of the Tasmanian Parliament, and His Excellency, Peter Aubern, President of the Republic of Councils of Ebrilond,

Candanadium wholeheartedly accepts your proposal. The Right Honourable Chancellor is away in Amurria currently, however, so we will need to arrange another time. Perhaps the Chancellor can visit Ebrilond alongside the Amurrian Prime Minister after our state visit is concluded? Her Majesty, Queen Ebrilon is currently under the protection of House Magnar, and we will arrange for her transport to Ebrilond after her safety is guaranteed. We will be more than happy to discuss the issue of the status of Her Majesty, as well as the appointment of a Lord Regent. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Signed,
Sir Markus Pearson, Minister of Defence, Knight of the Order of the Maple, and Acting Chancellor of Candanadium.

Imperial City of Kyoto, 20th January 2019 CE/2679 IY

The limousines were escorted by two jeeps of the Imperial Guard, along the main boulevard of the city. The King was kind of surprised of the casualty the people of Kyoto continued their lives, even when right next to them was the car of the king of a foreign nation. He did not know that in Kyoto, the people are used to seeing foreign diplomats, or nobles from other regions of the Empire, come and go. He went past the building of the old National Assembly, which used to rule the nation of Amurria in the late 18th century, the Amurria Tower, the biggest government building in the nation, standing at a proud 400 meters tall, which houses the heads of each Great House, and of each Lesser Houses. The city looked pretty modern, with tall buildings and such, but they soon entered the Old Kyoto District, full of traditional Amurrian houses, and, in the distance, the Imperial Palace could be seen. "The country is ruled by women? I know I heard about an Emperor, is he a figurehead, just like in Candanadium? If I ever get the chance, I will ask the Emperor himself."

"Your Majesty, we have reached the Imperial Palace."

"Thank you." Replied Richard.

The limousines stopped in the courtyard of a great building complex, defended by tall walls, guarded by the Imperial Guard, which came to escort the King to the Imperial Throne room. The Royal Guard got out of the car first, and, together with the Imperial Guard, escorted the Prime Minister, Shogun and King of Candanadium inside the Palace. It's insides were decorated in a combination between European and Amurrian styles, coupled with Japanese themes, which confused and surprised the King. A soldier of the Royal Guard carried a wooden box covered in the Candanadian flag, with the emblem of the Royal Family engraved on it. They entered the throne room.

"Your Imperial Majesty, the King of Candanadium has arrived." spoke one guard. Jax was getting ready, and sat on the throne as the doors opened. Richard entered first, followed by the members of the Amurrian government, then the other guests.

"An honor to meet you in person, King Richard of House Magnar." The Emperor said in stood up, and bowed towards the King, before sitting down once again. "What winds allowed you to honor us with Your presence?"

"I am here, on behalf of the Candanadian people, to discuss further actions regarding Ebrilond, and it's anti-monarchist policies. While we may not care about the situation before or after the civil war, we do care about the Queen's safety."

"A solid concern, as the restoration of the monarchy in Ebrilond would be the primary objective of Amurria's foreign policies at the moment. If you are willing to help us, we already have plans for co-operating with the Candanadian Royal Navy."

"These are great news, but sadly I am in no position to take such decisions." Richard said, then looked at the guard carrying the wooden box, signaling him with his hand. The soldier brought the box to the King, who then opened it, taking out the newly polished sword, covered in a tarp with Candanadium's emblem on it, then began walking towards the Emperor. "I brought a gift for you, Your Imperial Majesty."

Jax stood up and received the sword, after which Richard asked him. "Can we talk just the two of us?"

The Emperor nodded, and the guards left the room, leaving only the two inside. "What do you want to talk about, King Richard?"

"I am curious as to what kind of nation is Amurria, seeing that you have women for the most important positions, and" he pointed to the empty seat at Jax's right. "I see there is no Empress."

"Amurria is a meritocracy. Whoever has the skill, or ability, that gives him success in one or more fields, will succeed, be it a man or a woman."

"And what form of government does the nation have?"

"A semi-constitutional monarchy. But what state visit would it be if Your Majesty doesn't visit the Ancient Capital at the very least." Jax asked.

"I agree. We shall discuss further during the visit."

Amurria Tower, Kyoto, Amurria

"Mr. Chancellor, a message from New Konigstadt." One of the Royal Guardsmen approached Maxime and handed a printed sheet. It was from Sir Markus, who had been left as Acting Chancellor. Maxime turned to Ethan and told him the news.

"The Ebrilondians have offered us a parley. I sense a trap, but notify the ambassador in Edo. Have him send a couple of envoys to scout the area out, and get some Marines to go with them."

"Where would we send the Marines from? We have some in Sanya, as part of the base garrison, or we could send some from the blockade."

"The blockade, then. Contact Admiral Steiner. We should discuss this with the Amurrians. Corporal, please notify the Prime Minister and Shogun."

"Immediately, sir." The Guardsman saluted and turned on his heels.

"So, Ethan, now that the Jade Dragon complete, where should we send her?" Maxime asked once the Guardsman was out of earshot.

"We could send her to her home port of Sanya, but the base isn't complete yet. We could also send her to join her sister ship in Ebrilond, to let them know we mean business, if you get what I mean." Ethan suggested.

"Sounds good to me. I'll telephone Supreme Naval Command, Admiral Steiner needs to know about this. Who have we appointed as Admiral of the 1st Pacific Fleet?"

"A Jazadoan immigrant, Rear-Admiral, or rather Admiral, Samuel Chen."

"Seems fitting. I'll tell them to notify both Admirals Steiner and Chen."

RCNS Aurora Borealis, Ebrilondian Coast

"Message from Supreme Naval Command, sir." Commodore Rosenbaum told Michael.

"Print it out for me, Commodore. I will read it in my chambers."

"Aye, sir." The Commodore pressed a few buttons, and the printer sputtered to life.

CLASSIFIED
To Admiral MICHAEL STEINER, Commander of the RCNS Aurora Borealis and Admiral of the 3rd Atlantic Fleet,

The RCNS Jade Dragon has been dispatched from Iqaluit, and will join you in your blockade. You will provide an escort of thirty Marines for two Candanadian envoys to Ebrilond, who will arrive on board tomorrow. Admiral Chen of the Jade Dragon will notify you when he is within range of the Ebrilondian coast. Otherwise, you are to keep silent regarding the Jade Dragon's deployment.

Admiral Samuel Chen looked out at the bustling harbour before him from the bridge of the Jade Dragon. She was the newest addition to the Royal Candanadian Navy's fleet, a Konigstadt-class aircraft carrier, second of her kind. Her home port was Sanya, on the Jazadoan island of Hainan, soon-to-be headquarters of the 1st Pacific Fleet. Samuel had been expecting orders from Supreme Naval Command regarding their first posting, but none had come in so far. Across the harbour, a heavy Amurrian cargo ship was chugging towards the unloading docks, her deck filled with container boxes. In front of her was a Jazadoan cargo ship, whose captain sounded the foghorn as soon as he saw the Amurrian ship. Samuel smiled to himself, but his thoughts were disturbed by the sound of the printer sputtering out new orders.

"What is it this time?" He muttered, as he snatched the piece of paper and read it.

CLASSIFIED
To Admiral SAMUEL CHEN, Commander of the RCNS Jade Dragon, Admiral of the 1st Pacific Fleet,

You are to sail for the Ebrilondian coast and link up with Admiral Steiner's Aurora Borealis strike group. Do not attempt to contact the Aurora Borealis or any other ship in her strike group until you are within range of the coast. Nobody has been informed of this deployment, which means you will have a nominal escort, being one supply ship, the RCNS Nuuk, and one submarine, the RCNS Guantanamo Bay. You sail at midnight.

"Gentlemen, ladies, I'm sure we all know why I called this meeting today." Maxime began. "We have both received letters from the Focusist regime in Ebrilond, inviting us to a meeting in Melbourne to discuss the position of the Queen and the question of a Lord Regent."

"Yes, that is correct." The Prime Minister replied.

"My colleagues and I believe this is a trap set by the Focusist state." Maxime continued, gesturing to Ethan Wagner and Field Marshal Harold Saltcliffe, who nodded. "We have sent a pair of envoys to the city of Melbourne, via the RCNS Aurora Borealis. They will be well guarded. If you were planning on sending envoys, we will be more than honoured to provide them with transport and security."

"I thank you for the offer, but we will be able to provide our own security. However, if our envoys could use the RCNS Aurora Borealis as a refuelling stop, we will be eternally grateful." The Shogun expressed.

"Absolutely. I will make sure Admiral Steiner is notified. On a side note, we have sent some naval reinforcements to the blockade, a supply ship and a submarine. I thought you might want to know. If you will excuse me, His Majesty is expecting me. By your leave, my lady." Maxime finished and left the room.

20th floor of the Amurria Tower, Kyoto, Amurria

Princess Ella von Magnar picked at her food with a pair of chopsticks. She didn't have any idea on how to use them, and the food looked strange and foreign to her. There were pieces of braised fish with a side of fried rice, and a bowl of soup. There was also an assortment of fried snacks on the table, but they had all tasted strange to her. Her older brother was down near the end of the table, chatting amiably in German with an Amurrian noblewoman.

"Nein, nein, ihre Deutsch ist prima." She heard Prince Herman say. Seated across from her was an Amurrian noble, around her age. He looked over at her and smiled. Ella blushed, and tried to look occupied.

"Do you need help with those chopsticks?" He asked. His English was surprisingly good, with only the slightest trace of an accent.

"Y-yes, please. I have no idea how to use them." She managed. He smiled and came over to her side of the table.

"All you need to do is hold them like this. See? Now you can use them to pick up food, like a pair of tweezers." He held them out for her. "Now you try." Ella tried to hold them like he had just done so, but to no avail.

"I think I'll just ask one of the waiters for a spoon." She laughed.

"Good idea." He responded and signalled to a waiter. He said something in Japanese, and the waiter nodded.

"I'm Ella von Magnar, Princess of Summerhall." She held out her hand.

"Kawahara of House Taira, Heir to the Fukui Prefecture. It's an honour meeting you, Your Highness." He kissed her hand.

"Oh, stop it." She giggled. "Or I'll have to call you 'my lord'."

"Alright, Your Highness." He grinned.

A terrorist in Los Angeles

Postby Adryia » Sat Jan 19, 2019 7:07 pm

As you look out your window to look at the concert near your building, you would see many people running out of the building, and you hear gunshots, as smoke fills the warm 72 degree airs. "Oh, god... What the hell is happening..." you would stand, shocked as you would hear the nation drop silent, a nation once blooming with happiness, now silent. The silence gives you a shaking feeling. You would turn around, and start rambling, walking around the room. "The last time a terrorist attack happened, was... Who did this... Why would someone do... WHY?!!" You would shout, your echos bouncing around the wooden walls, then a citizen would run into your office, crying. "Samuel Wenwarth, sir, help..." the citizen, usually called Jen, would sob. "A... a.. terrorist, with a communist badge on his chest.. in the middle of the concert, just.. started shooting people.. oh.. god... the screams, the silence killed me.. my son was shot in the arm, the leg, then killed by a shot in the head..." Jen would sob, and sob, the tears would create a puddle, then your janitor would walk into the room with a mop and cleans the puddle. "Don't worry, I will do something about it." you would assure Jen.

You would come out onto your balcony, knowing the terrorist left the city already, and went onto a boat to go somewhere out of question. You would test your microphone, and the crying and tears would stop. You would give an assuring look to the crowd, then clear your throat. You would begin to talk.

"Greetings, Everyone. I am sure you all know why I am here. It is to talk about the incident earlier. I am sorely sorry to those affected, I will respond rightfully to the incident. I, Samuel Wenwarth, will be ABOLISHING THE COMMUNIST PARTY!!" You would shout into the crowd, which would start blooming with happiness and people would start cheering. "FROM THIS DAY ONWARD, COMMUNISM SHALL BE NO MORE, INSIDE OF ADRYIA!!" You would scream into the crowd, finishing your sentence.

Dear, President of Cottonlay
I would be interested in this exchange, and i would be fine eith exchanging idaho for remaining Wyoming. Also, anyone with criminal records of killing anyone could be sent to execution camps on border.

The president of Adryia agrees to allow Cottonlay to annex Idaho for remaining Wyoming, under the condition that all innocent citizens of Adryia would be cared for and have same rights as Cottonlay citizens.

And as we are speaking of this, I would like to talk about how you lack of a city or important capital. I, along with the Adryian government would be more than fine with giving you trillions in effort to build up an important city for a capital in your nation.
Bests of luck, Samuel Wenwarth, president of Adryia

Parliament Hill, New Konigstadt, CCR, Candanadium

"Has the television crew arrived?" Sir Markus asked impatiently. They had contacted the Candanadium Broadcasting Network, or CBN. Sir Markus was about to address the nation, formally announcing the creation of a new military alliance, the New Konigstadt Pact.

"They're on their way here, sir. They should be here soon." A Guardsman replied. A lectern with the Royal Seal had been set up, and Sir Markus was pacing back and forth, his speech in hand. The television crew arrived a few minutes later, and set up as soon as possible. A red light went off, and Sir Markus began his speech.

"Ladies and gentlemen, good evening. I am Sir Markus Pearson, Minister of Defence, Knight of the Order of the Maple and Acting Chancellor of Candanadium. Today, I am pleased to be formally announcing the creation of the New Konigstadt Pact, or NKP, a military alliance open to any nation in the world. The New Konigstadt Pact was created a few weeks ago between Candanadium and Jazado, and we would like to open it up to all nations. A formal contract will be drafted up shortly, and should any nation wish to join, all they need to do is contact either one of the current members. I would also like to announce Candanadium's withdrawal from the Alliance of Free Nations, as we cannot entertain two military alliances at once. Thank you, and good night." The red light shut off.

"Who did you say wanted to join again?" Asked Sir Markus.

"Adryia, and New Karelograd." Replied the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"Good. We'll need all the members we can get. Make sure the Chancellor knows about the announcement. The Amurrians won't be happy, but we were getting nowhere under AFN."

Jazado, Beijing, Tiananmen Square, Congress Hall, 20th January, 2019

“We need to get everything ready, the alliance will be finalized in Chang’An, Zhang Fei, Liu Bei you will be there with me when we announce it, Joseph make sure intelligence have everything under control.” Said Liu Kang as he read over the itinerary for the day.

“Sir we still have to notify our allies.” Added Liu Bei.

“Ah yes I almost forgot.” Answered Liu Kang as he went to draft a letter to his allies.

“Oh and the Chairman is in Chang’An right now, will he be-” Asked Liu Bei before the Emperor interrupted.

“Yes he will be coming too, his new policies and reforms seem to work well, running things at a deficit for the people, I like how he thinks.” Said Liu Kang.

To any and all nations that may attend,
The Emperor Liu Kang of Jazado,
would like to invite all nations that seek to
Form an alliance to attend in a massive
convention in Chang’An or Xi’An as you may know it.
Following the recent alliance forged with the Candanadians,
Known as the New Konigstadt Pact or NKP the
Jazadoan Government would like to establish
A grand Coalition with any and all countries
that might aid us in future conflicts
Or nations that simply look for protection.
More details will be explained at the conference,
The conference will take place on the 23rd of January and delegations from
Adryia, Candanadium and New Karelograd are expected to be there,
Note that this four-nation alliance can be expanded to encompass any
And all nations that may seek to join.

Signed, Liu Kang Emperor of Jazado, Defender of Faith, Protector of Jazado and Jade Dragon.

This will do, thought Liu Kang as he passed it to Liu Bei who was in charge of delivering messages and explaining the emperors plans to his cabinet and advise him.

Chang’An, Government Hall, 19th December, 2019

The Chairman was busy at work, rereading and glossing over the reforms and amendments made by his subordinates. The convention staged in six days had passed out of mind as his work was of the up most importance and he had to focus all his attention onto it. Elai the head of Jazadoan Intelligence in the area had been assigned as his body guard and brought reports of the construction progress and news of how the people and workers especially thought of it. A lot of work but he had seen worse, the time was getting late and night was falling. He looked at the recent reform he had passed and it read,

1. All citizens of Jazado who do not attend college or are not applying for college over the age of or are retired, who have been unemployed for over six months must work in either one of the government construction projects or serve in the national guard and act as reserves.

2. In cities that do not have enough space to house all of its citizens or has housing prices above 10,000 Aurums shall have government housing underground established and run at a deficit to house the local population and lower housing in the area. Places that will have such projects occur are Hongkong, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing. Large cities such as Guangzhou, and Hangzhou with relatively low housing prices compared to others will have new residential areas to attract more workers from the rural areas.

3. Provinces such as Yunan that have been struck by natural disasters will have temporary shelters run by the government at a deficit to house the displaced people, new buildings to house these displaced people will be erected and spread out in the province to prevent overcrowding, factories will be set up in such places to provide work for the people.

4. Rural areas west of Chang’An will be given better farming equipment and devices to stop soil degradation, during that time vertical farms will be established to maximize the amount of harvest and minimize the land used. Remaining land that are not national parks or landmarks will either be turned into residential and financial areas or be turned into nuclear power plants and or factories.

5. The manpower that will be used in these construction projects will be from the unemployed and homeless, there is an estimated 9.7 million unemployed Jazadoan people in our nation, 10% of which are under the age of 25 and another 10% are retired people over the age of 55. That leaves us with roughly 7.76 million people to work with, a notification will be sent to each and every one of them giving them six months to find a job or join right away, companies will be hired to aid us in these construction projects.

6. All homeless people working in these projects will be given housing by the government at a rate of 500 Aurums per month, this is run at a deficit so that the homeless can work their way out of poverty and afford to pay for their own housing. Those who do not wish to be housed will be given one hour of therapy per week, a number of 100 therapists will be hired at minimum in the construction sites, if more are required more will be hired to meet the demands. A worker will go off duty once per week to take his or her therapy after that they shall return to their work and continue to help make progress on the project.

This was submitted and passed on the 5th of January. Huh things were working better than the chairman had expected, projects in Hongkong, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou have already made considerable progress work in Hangzhou and Chang’An was not that impressive but it was still progress. Reports had come in and 172,543 more people have turned up, most of the homeless and unemployed were not working at the moment but the contracted companies and the current people working was enough to get things started. Free drinks, now that was the best idea yet, the only thing that really bothered him was how he was going to explain to the expenses to the Emperor but the Chairman figured that he would deal with it when the time came.

Coast of New Zealand, 3rd Pacific Fleet, 00:12, 21st January 2019 CE/2679 IY

The 3rd Pacific Fleet of the Imperial Navy was doing it's patrol around the Ebrilondian islands, when they received an encrypted order, to deploy a battalion of soldiers in the anarchic city of Wellington, the center of infighting within New Zealand, where all factions, be they for a monarchy, for a socialist republic, for a theocracy, or for a republic, battle fiercely over the government's main building, a symbol of power, as the building itself is only ruble now. They do not appear to posses any aircraft, but from the recon planes' reports, they do operate 1960s AA weaponry. Their tanks are the same T-72 which was met in Manchuria. Wellington itself was mostly composed of rubble and a few fortifications of each faction. The Admiral of the fleet expected a battle similar to the one in the capital of the former nation of AMVN, but the outright bombing of their government building, and the outright invasion of the Imperial Army with no casus belli, did have it's bad effects on the Empire's international image.

"The reason Edo wants to deploy a battalion in Wellington is to secure the ruins of the government building, and thus gain formal control over the islands of New Zealand, ensuring a stable territory right next to Ebrilond, which, in case it does not agree to restore the monarchy, will be invaded." thought the Admiral. They were to remain on stand by near the city's harbor, in a position where the battleships could provide support should the need be. The battle group would be sent through the harbor, and would expect to meet heavy resistance from the local forces, who might stop fighting between themselves and begin attacking the Imperial Navy ships, which would make the battle harder, but still winnable.

"GENERAL QUARTERS! GENERAL QUARTERS! ALL HANDS MAN YOUR BATTLE STATIONS!" shouted the Admiral through the microphone, the signal being heard everywhere in the fleet's ships, the soldiers preparing for a fight, and the crewmen waiting for a signal to fire the battleships' 41 centimeter guns. The city was slightly lit, the light of gunfires and artillery barrages lighting the horizon. It was a miracle they were not spotted by then. The jet bombers were taking off from the aircraft carriers, and had already began marking the targets which will soon be destroyed. The battalion was boarding the transport helicopters which were sent by the blockading forces in Ebrilond. It was a sudden order, but well understood by everyone. After all, they were going to reclaim New Zealand, the land given to them in 1911, after the fall of the British Empire, but they lost it in 1912, when the Great War began.

"ALL MILITARY PERSONNEL, BOARD THE TRANSPORT HELICOPTERS, I REPEAT, BOARD THE TRANSPORT HELICOPTERS. WE ARE MOVING OUT IN 5 MINUTES!" Was the message that kept repeating on the transport ships, and the aircraft carriers. The fighting in the city kept going on, oblivious of the army which will soon join the fight. Private Kazuma, a newly joined recruit into the Imperial Army, was preparing his gear, scared of what might happen in that anarchic place. His squad was to neutralize the AA installations within the east side of the city, and designate the locations of important military fortifications, so that the battleships may begin firing upon them. They will be deployed via helicopter close to an abandoned warehouse, from where all AA installations of the Theocratic Faction can be reached in a short time. Other squads are to destroy the other AA systems of the other factions, and once those are destroyed, the whole battalion will launch an assault on the government building's ruins, gaining formal control over the whole territory of New Zealand. Simultaneously, other battalions are deployed in Christchurch, and other big cities on the islands, but they are to meet with less resistance.

"Soldiers, we passed the New Osaka Trials! We are the elite! The Empire has given us the duty of defeating it's enemies, and bringing peace to the Pacific!" The lieutenant shouted in the chopper. "We will emerge victorious from this battle! Make the Empire proud!" he kept shouting as he loaded his AMR-12, with the other soldiers following suit. They took off from the battleship in the harbor. It would have been easier to deploy them with boats, but would have taken more time, and would not allow them to cover such a wide area. They flew under the cover of darkness, avoiding the more populated regions of the city, and landed in the yard of a tall building on which was written "Wellington Manufacturing Co.", it looked like it was from the 19th century, but it still stood, albeit overgrown by plants. The soldiers got out of the helicopter, awaiting orders from their lieutenant.

Wellington, 00:20

Kazuma was loading his handgun and checked his magazines. "Nervous?" asked another soldier, equipped with similar gear, but who wore the patch of the Special Forces on his shoulder. "Don't be. Compared to what used to happen in AVMN, where we had to launch an attack in plain daylight, this operation will be easy. We have the cover of the night after all." He told Kazuma, who seemed to be a bit more calm.

"All squad members, check if your radios work. We will maintain contact through these. Be sure your NV glasses work. Do you have the radio markers? What about the C4?" The lieutenant kept asking, until he made sure everyone's equipment was in good condition. "Okay, move out." He said as he began walking slowly through the tall grass of the courtyard, until they reached a relatively clean street, crumbling, with rusted cars, where from time to time military trucks passed. "You'd think they could rebuild this." Kazuma thought as he hid behind the wreck of a tank from an APC which just passed by, it's headlights revealing the true colors of the ruins of Wellington. He could barely see what appears to be a cross and a sword on the APC's side. "We are in the right area." He and everyone in the squad thought, as they began moving across the street, carefully checking the buildings for any snipers.

They reached a small apartment building, on the top of which they saw an AA battery, which, for the lack of either side's aircrafts and helicopters, acted as artillery against enemy vehicles. Looking at the building itself, they saw it was guarded by a small number of soldiers, but expected more to be inside. "Pvt. Kazuma, jam their communications." was the order he got, as he took out the radio jammer from his backpack and placed it close to a trash bin, masked by some old newspapers and such. "It should jam their comms for a few minutes at least." He thought. They got the order to enter the building, but not before checking every corner, and making sure there were enemies inside. "I count four, over." Kazuma told through the radio. "Roger that, drop'em." The lieutenant responded, and as soon as he gave the order, all the soldiers on the ground floor were shot. "Move in, check your corners." Were the orders he received as he entered the building. Inside it was relatively clean, but still without electricity, the soldiers relied on flashlights and radio communication to communicate with one another in the building. On the ground floor there were no apartments, but there were a few small rooms where equipment was stored. What they found there was mostly food and water, supplies needed to survive.

They got on the first floor, where a soldier was guarding the staircase, shining his flashlight from time to time on the stairs. "Tango down." Kazuma said over the radio as he shot the enemy in the head with his suppressed pistol. This seemed to alarm some of the soldiers on that floor, who were taken care off by the rest of the squad. Inside the apartments there were sleeping civilians, who luckily didn't hear anything. On the second floor there was no one, but in one of the bigger rooms there was what appeared to be a local command center, with a map of the military installations in the city, and, from what he could make out, all of them were on the rooftops of buildings. "This information should make them possible to be destroyed by artillery fire." The lieutenant thought as he sent this information to the Admiral of the fleet, who then gave the order to aim the fleet's guns towards the supposed positions of the AA installations.

On the third, and last floor, there was no one, but the fire of the AA gun could be heard, and even felt there. On that floor there was the ammunition for it, and thus they decided to plant the explosives there, and leave the building, and move on to the next one, but they were given the order to neutralize the installation above them, and give indications as to where the others were. They were gonna use the battleships to disable the enemy's installations, as using the bombers before the air space was safe would mean they would gain losses, but they already did. The squad deployed in the Socialist Faction's territory was spotted by a patrol and most of it's members shot on sight, with two being captured and one managing to escape. While the losses were regrettable, they were not going to rescue them, but hoped they will not speak about the reason they were sent there.

On the rooftop, two men were aiming and firing the AA gun towards enemy positions, a poor use of it, Kazuma thought, but it was better than sitting there useless. They killed them quickly, before taking out their binoculars and looking at the city's rooftops, for positions where lighting flashes happen. So, they found the position of most AA guns within the city, all firing at each other in a stalemate. The civilians were trying to get away from the military positions, as they were told by the squads sent to disable those, in order to avoid collateral damage. The operation was already shady, and is expected to rise world tensions, but the argument is that New Zealand belonged to Amurria the whole time, as it was given to them by the King of Britain. From the roof, they could see the ruins of the government building, which were well lit by all factions. That was the place where peace ruled, the only one in the whole city.

"Leave the building, the artillery barrage will begin in three minutes." the lieutenant gave the order as they began running away from the building, back into the courtyard of the abandoned warehouse, before the sky was lit by flying shells, which hit the AA installations in the blink of an eye, most of the nearby buildings collapsing too. By now the warring factions knew a foreign army was at their doorstep, and when they saw this artillery barrage come from three battleships, decided to make a truce and began firing at the Imperial Navy's ships. But before they could do any significant damage, their artillery was bombed and destroyed. A group of 200 soldiers began moving forward towards the government building, supported by the Navy and Air Force.

Wellington, 01:30

"Soldiers, we have reached the government building of Wellington. I expect there will still be resistance from various groups in the country, even after we tell them they are under our rule now. We have heard reports from the more southern cities, where the infiltration and conquest operations almost failed, but we were lucky we had the Air Force close by and could help turn it into a partial success. By now we have already gained control of some areas of the country, but there is still fighting to do. The Imperial Army, at least the one deployed here on the island, is moving inland as we speak. We will send a recorded speech over the islands' radio stations, announcing them of our victory, and hope they will not try to fight back." The Admiral spoke through the radio. "These are the orders from Edo."

In the name of the Last King of Britain, King George V of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland,
May his soul rest in peace,

We, the nation of Amurria, as per his dying wish, were given Britain's colonial dominion of New Zealand, a land which resembles the land of Britain, but is unique in itself. But we did not get to set up our administration in the year 1911, when the United Kingdom fell into anarchy, as we too, fought a bloody civil war, and were not able to focus our attention on the lands given to us by our European brothers. Thus, we find it in our duty to honor the wishes of Britain by reclaiming these lands. Rejoice, brave citizens of New Zealand, for from now on you will be known as Britannians, and you will carry the legacy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, together with us.

We will end the anarchy that took over this island since the 1970s, and we will rebuild together. So, shout with me, one last time, descendants of Britain:

RULE BRITANNIA!

This was the message broadcasted all over the islands, and even from the city there could be heard the crowd shouting: "Rule Britannia!" and such. The memory of Britain made some of them lose the intention to fight against each other. While not wholly united, they weren't wholly divided either. They were looking forward towards this new rule, which they saw as a resurrection of the British Empire. That night the city of Wellington saw peace for the first time in decades. But the fighting did not end, other, smaller, cities further inland were still fighting for a republic, a theocracy, and some even for an aboriginal government. These were sure to complicate matters with the administration of the islands, but without any knowledge of where the bombers were, their weapons were useless, as they were bombarded. Those who surrendered were promised seats in the new government.

With the situation in Ebrilond, it is likely this will go unnoticed, but after the dust settles, it is also likely they will try to do as they did in Hawaii. Although these lands were Amurrian from the very beginning. By the time the sun rose slowly over the horizon, a temporary administration was created for the city of Wellington, which will soon hold elections for the administrative positions, the first elections in decades.

"We are the Land of the Rising Sun, eh?" said Kazuma as he looked at the sunrise from the roof of the government building's still-standing section.

RCNS Aurora Borealis, off the Ebrilondian Coast, Candanadian-Amurrian Blockade

The fleet Marines were drilling on the flight deck when the radar went haywire.

"Sir, we are observing huge amounts of troop movements towards the southwest. By their signatures they look Amurrian, but we can't know for sure. We have transport ships, transport planes, fighters, and even a few carriers, all mobilizing. It looks like they're heading for the coast of New Zealand." The radar operator reported.

"Similar readings on sonar, sir. We have submarines moving southwest, heading for the same course. What should we do?" The sonar operator confirmed.

"Petty Officer Goldberg, get me on the air with the Amurrian admiral. I need to know what the hell is going on." Michael ordered.

"Aye, sir. You are live."

"I am Admiral Michael Steiner, Royal Candanadian Navy, Commander of the RCNS Aurora Borealis and Admiral of the 3rd Atlantic Fleet. We have observed huge numbers of Amurrian naval and aerial movements, moving southwest. Please explain yourself, or the blockade will be forced to intervene." Michael spoke into the microphone.

"Good day, Admiral Steiner. I am Admiral Takashi Fuyanori, of the 3rd Pacific Fleet. Rest assured, these are routine Pacific troop movements. There is no need to intervene."

"I understand, however, the Royal Candanadian Navy will appreciate it if you were to notify the blockade before such a huge movement." Michael relaxed a bit.

"Of course. Please forgive me."

"There is nothing to forgive. Godspeed, Admiral Fuyanori."

"And to you, Admiral Steiner. Goodbye." The radio went silent.

"Shall we contact Supreme Naval Command, sir?" Asked Petty Officer Goldberg.

"No, but contact Pacific Naval Command, Sanya. They will need to know."

"Right away, sir."

To Pacific Naval Command, Sanya, Hainan, Jazado,

Be advised, large Amurrian aerial and naval movements heading towards the coast of New Zealand. Official purpose is routine troop movements. Requesting investigation, will report further activity. Further requesting permission to inform RCNS Jade Dragon.

Michael smiled. He would need to polish the sword tonight, and get his dress uniform dry cleaned. The men were going to be elated to go ashore after such a long sea deployment.

Tongjjok, Blue House
The whole city was covered in a blanket of snow as the black car pulled up into the Blue House. The 67 year old Emperor Yi Taehoon-Seo got out of the car with the help of a man in a suit. The monarch walked up the snow covered stairs to the front door, after opening the door, he was instantly greeted by a hug from a small child.

"Anyonhaseo Appa!" yelled the small child.

"Ah, anyonhaseo Soon-Gak!" Taehoon-Seo replied with a smile. "Go play with your sister Soon-Gak. Dad has to send a very important telegram."

"Ok, but you will have to play with me after you are done!" pouted Soon-Gak.

"Ok ok. I will play with you after Prince Yi Soon-Gak." Taehoon-Seo said as he took off his coat and walked towards his study room.

Thud. The door echoed.

After meeting with President Mr. Kim concerning allies, Taehoon-Seo began to compose a telegram directed towards the Monarch of Amurria.

To the rightful Emperor of Amurria,

I, Emperor Yi Taehoon-Seo, would like to improve our nation's relationship with Amurria with a dinner attended by the two nation's reigning monarchs. We would like the dinner to be held in the sovereign territory in Amurria.

- Joseon House of Yi, Emperor Yi Taehoon-Seo

After constructing the telegram, Taehoon-Seo began to construct another telegram directed towards to the Monarch of Canadanadiam

To the rightful King of Canadanadiam

I would like to establish official diplomatic relationship with your nation. I would like our respective embassy built in our respective capital. If possible and with Amurria's consent, please consider joining in with our dinner.

King Island, South of Ebrilond, 16:03, January 21st, 2019

“Admiral, how many weapons do you still have in your stockpiles? The cargo ships had brought quite the sum.” Asked Zhang Fei through a radio transmission.

“We still have around half the amount of FALs and two thirds the amount of ammunition. The explosives have barely been touched and the artillery didn’t use too much. Why do you ask?” Responded Admiral Zhang.

“Let’s just say that there are a few Amurrians close by and after all we need to protect these people from Amurrian aggression. So, what I suggest that you do is train around seven battalions worth of men and arm them with the weapons you’ve brought. The Amurrians have quite the experience with the police but not that much with actual figh, ting men.” Answered Zhang Fei.

“We will need extra help from the mainland though, the Amurrian blockade has put a strain on the people there and we will need supplies to keep them alive.” Added the Admiral who had not forgotten about the Ebrilondi citizens in Melbourne. Though they were in King Island the 1st Infantry Division as well as the 2nd ,3rd and 4th marine corps were in Melbourne, the 91st Infantry and the 1st Marine Corps was on King Island as well as five of the seven cargo ships.

“Just get the job done, I have received permission from the emperor to issue this order and so you may proceed, as long as no Ebrilondians are hurt without a proper justification. Beware that Amurrians might still be sneaking about so if your men catch any get the Ebrilondians to shoot them. You have your orders now finish your job.” Concluded Zhang Fei.

The Tianzi was currently docked in King Island but the rest of the ships were still in a blockade formation around Melbourne, this gap in the Amurrian and Candanadian blockade allowed supplies from Tasmania and other lands to be shipped over. The only actual reason the Jazadoan section of the blockade was still up was to stop Amurrians from starving out the people of Ebrilond. Ironically Candanadian Designed CL-44s were used to fly food and other everyday necessities from Jazado to Melbourne where it would be distributed across Ebrilond. The men who had recently been fighting each other for no more than 20 days were now helping each other distribute supplies and reconnect Ebrilond, the Jazadoan government had sent over building materials to establish a railroad from Melbourne all the way Canberra, this would make supplying Ebrilond easier and relieve the locals that lived in the capital.

Admiral stood and watched as the five remaining Jazadoan cargo ships sailed towards Melbourne, time to raise the peasant levy, a joke he used to make now it wasn’t too far off from reality but this peasant levy with a proper training can become an armed force strong enough to challenge many an army that would face them. Ebrilond would have to hold their ground against Amurria, but war is something these people have seen and it seems that even though the Ebrilondians had enough of war, war never had enough of them and so now the ships set sail carrying enough weapons to supply all of Melbourne, the sun was still high and it made the Melbourne bay shine like gold, a beauty to behold and a serenity to be appreciated but all would come to an end when the first shots were fired and the smell of powered once more filled the air, but this time the might of Jazado and the Jade Dragon would stand with Ebrilond against all that might face them. It was only four but it felt like a new day.

Beijing, Jazado, Tiananmen Square the Congress Hall, 11:21, January 21st, 2019

New weaponry from Sudardes and Candanadium had arrived, CA and AR weaponry would modernize the Jazadoan Army and once production of the AR-38 begins the Jazadoan army would be one of the largest and most advanced militaries in the world only second to Sudardes. The C9 and C6 machineguns had already been issued to Jazadoan soldiers, but now was not the time to discus the status of the Jazadoan Army but the time to discus the us of the JAF in an intervention in New Zealand. Following the recent Amurrian victory in Wellington they managed to secure the southern region of the North Island, Zhang Fei along with Liu Kang the Emperor would not let it stand.

“We’ll send some bombers from the Tianzi to destroy the bridge that connects the South Island with the North Island. Then I think the deployment of the 4th and 5th Paratrooper divisions too secure Nelson, Blenheim and Picton, the deployment of the 11th and 14th Paratroopers to secure Christ Church and Timaru not to mention Akaroa. I think that’s all we’ll need.” Concluded Zhang Fei.

“No, no that won’t do, I suggest that we send the 1st and 3rd Paratroopers along to secure Invercargill and Dunedin, and all towns in between our divisions and their targets will have men dispatched from those respected divisions to fill them up. That would secure the east coast, the west coast has a terrain to rough for paratroopers to land and so once their objectives are secure, we will dispatch the 1st Marine Corp in King island to land in Greymouth.” Added Liu Kang.
“A good idea, but I would like to suggest sending six platoons from the 4th and 5th paratroopers to secure St Arnaud and Murchison. I think that covers all of what we need to do, field marshal Cao Cao should be assigned to this operation and will oversee that our objectives are completed.” Zhang Fei suggested. “Do I have permission to finalize and issue the order sir?”

“Permission granted.” Answered Liu Kang.

Zhang Fei set off to work and found Cao Cao, he gave him his assignment and then sent him to finish the job.

Flight Deck, RCNS Aurora Borealis, Ebrilondian Coast

"What is all this?" Admiral Steiner stormed across the flight deck. A CL-44 transport plane was on the flight deck, its unloading ramp was open, and it was filled with crates. The pilot came out of the cockpit, saluted the Admiral, and handed him an envelope.

"Orders straight from New Konigstadt, sir. We are flying in to link up with the Jazadoan military on the ground. We were told that you would supply us with a hundred Marines." Michael tore open the envelope. It was another order, confirming what the pilot just said.

"Damn it, why doesn't anyone tell me anything?" He muttered. "Captain Pullman, get me a hundred Marines. They're deploying."

"Aye, sir." Captain Pullman went to fetch his Marines.

"What's in the plane?" Michael asked.

"Old C1A1s and C7A1s,with mags and ammunition, sir. These are for the Ebrilondian Monarchists."

"Open that crate, I want to take a look." Michael pointed to a crate near the unloading ramp.

"Aye, sir." The pilot got a crowbar from the cockpit and opened the crate. Inside was a stack of old C1A1 rifles, the Candanadian designation for the infamous FN FAL Battle Rifle. Two cans of 7.62x51 ammunition was there too, sealed. They were dated 1989, but Michael figured they would still work.

"Alright, you're good. Carry on, Petty Officer," He said to the airman, dismissing him.

CL-44 Transport, King Island, Ebrilond

"Candanadian Marines, unload!" Captain Jonathan Pullman slapped the side of the transport. He slung his C7A2 rifle across his back and went to find the Jazadoan officer in command. He spied a Jazadoan sailor looking at him curiously, and went over to him.

"Seaman, can you point me towards the Admiral of the Tianzi? We have been sent from the RCNS Aurora Borealis."

"什么?我不懂你说的话。" (What? I don't understand.) The sailor said.

"Candanadian Marines." Jon pointed to the Marine Corps emblem on his jacket. "Tianzi?" He pointed towards the Jazadoan ship in the harbour.

"啊,天子?" (Oh, Tianzi.) The Seaman replied. He pointed to a different ship.

"Thank you." Jon tried to recall the word for thank you in Mandarin. "谢谢。” He hurried towards the other ship. A tall Jazaoan man stood on the deck, with plenty of decorations on his chest. That had to be the Admiral, he thought. Jon approached the man and saluted.

"Admiral Zhang, I am Captain Jonathan Pullman, Royal Candanadian Marine Corps, here by orders of Admiral Michael Steiner of the RCNS Aurora Borealis." He said. The Jazadoan looked at him with slight suspicion.

"Welcome aboard. We did not detect your arrival." The Admiral had an accent, but he was still understandable.

"We did not announce it, sir. We are here with weapons to distribute to the Ebrilondian monarchists."

"I'd like to take a look at those weapons. Your MGs and carbines have been received well by our soldiers."

"With respect, sir, I doubt you'd find them effective. These are old C1A1s and C7A1s, largely decommissioned rifles that we have sitting in storage. I'm sure we have a spare C7A2 sitting somewhere, though."

"Carry on, Captain. Have your men join the next patrol, we'll distribute them by hand. We're raising a peasant levy. By the way, send my congratulations to your Admiral. His blockade was a bitch to get through, excuse my language."

Greymouth, South Island, New Zealand, 1st Marine Corp, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Platoon, 02:43, January 22nd, 2019.

The landing crafts approached the beaches of Greymouth with haste, the waves were steady, and only the waves could be heard by the Marines as they approached their destination. Rifle in hand Private Zhao Jianjun stood tall behind his Sergeant and Corporal, all was dark and only the outlines of the mountains could be seen in the dark. Steady stood all the men in his squadron and the night did not daunt them, a thud, they landed. The ramp dropped and men hurried out of the crafts, the eerie silence fell upon the marines, with the footsteps of men in the sand being the only sound heard, then they came to a halt. They arrived at Hill Quay or at least Jianjun’s platoon had. Now the only sound to be heard was the radio man and the officer communicating with the rest of the battalion, they were the 4th Platoon, the 3rd had reached Nelson Bay at Northern Breakwater, the 2nd had secured Lake Ryan, the 5th took Mclean Domain and finally the 1st took the Greymouth airport.

They were not permitted to fire at any of the people but were ordered to push further into the town. The radio man reported the 3rd Battalion landing in Awatuna and the 1st battalion split in two to bolster the ranks of the 2nd and 3rd, they would hit the beaches in an hour. Jianjun approached one of the buildings followed by two others, the lights were on and movement inside could be seen, the Paratroopers had radioed the people of Greymouth about our arrival and to leave us be and it seemed as if they were going to. Jianjun and his platoon went to set up camp in the empty areas of the city. They took shifts for patrol of course, though the people of Greymouth be friendly the Marines couldn’t risk a surprise attack at night.

Jianjun stood at his post watching as his fellow comrades dozed off, all was silent and most of the people in the city were asleep, but that didn’t matter what mattered was his duty and he had to do this for his nation. Time passed as he stood there and not much happened, the night was awfully quiet and there was no action to be seen, the people of New Zealand lived in relative peace before the Amurrians arrived and now it seems that Amurrian aggression must be met with Jazadoan firepower. Satellites monitored Amurrian movement in the North Island and it was the same old. Finally Jianjun’s shift was over and he walked towards the tent of the person who would take over, he found him asleep and simply nudged him and called his name three or four times before he woke up then they exchanged places and Jianjun found himself asleep not in a tent but under the silver light of the moon and the wondrous colours of the thousand stars that lay above him.

Beijing, Jazado, January 22nd, 2019

Back again Caihe thought to himself, just a student attending class learning about whatever it was that he was learning. Why do we hate the Amurrians? A question commonly asked by his peers and to which their teachers, parents and elders respond with ‘We cannot change the blood that flows through our veins, we cannot change the heart that beats in our chest. It is from our past that we derive this hatred and we shall never throw away our culture and heritage.’ An answer widely accepted after all they were all Han by blood and if not at heart. Caihe looked up at the white board, his teacher was just explaining the meaning of the phrase 孝悌.

“The word ‘孝’ in this case means to love your parents, and the word ‘梯’ means to love your siblings, this was the thought of Confucius and he believed that one could derive virtue from loving their parent and the siblings. To him and many other ancient philosophers the idea of family plays a major role in both life and searching for virtue. But don’t be misguided, Dante in his book the Inferno details about how in the many rings of hell those at the bottom are those who have betrayed their Family and Nation. Yes Caihe.” He said as Caihe raised his hand to ask a question.

“Why is family so important when it comes to finding virtue and meaning?” Caihe asked.

“A great question, if you cannot love the parents that raised you and your brothers and sisters that grew up beside you how can you seek to find kindness? If all bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood were broken how could you understand the reason, they defend each other even because of their differences? No, without compassion and love towards your family, your kinsmen you shall never know true virtue and shall never understand what is right and that which is wrong. That is why.” The teacher answered.

“Sir, if Amurrians are our enemies by blood then why does our government still given them equal rights?” Asked Wusong who was confused as to why Jazadoans even let Amurrians into their lands.

“The answer is simple, though they be our enemies we must treat them with honour, here they are our guests and we shall not harm them so long as they stay as our guests. I will assure all of you that if they were not our guests but a spy instead, they would have already been buried six feet under. See the reason here is honour, it might be a foreign concept that Amurrians do not respect but if we act like them is makes us no better than the dogs they are, we are the ones with honour, we are the ones with virtue, and we are the ones who are righteous. Do not let hate and bad blood and hatred for others stain your honour, nor should you let it tempt you. Is that clear?” Answered the teacher who believed that he had answered all the questions that were reasonable to ask.

Then the Amurrian student stood up and abruptly spoke over the teacher. “Why does honour matter? Who cares if it’s the righteous way or not, as long as it gets the job done we should be fine with it. Afterall isn’t the results that matter and not the process?” Interrupted the Amurrian, but he did raise an excellent question.

“No,” The teacher answered. “Most people think it’s the results that matter and not the process, but it is always the process that matters, the process is what determines how moral someone is, it determines whether they are men of honour or scoundrels that have no respect for the proper way of things.”

“But who cares if its proper? If I can win a fist fight by biting and kicking then it doesn’t matter because I’m the one on top and he’s the one on the ground.” Replied the Amurrian who still did not understand.

“The point I’m trying to convey is that its not about winning the fight, but rather the way you win the fight. Sure I could pull out a gun in the middle of a fist fight and kill the guy but it’s not honourable, though you might have been enemies or you might have hated the person you still must face them with honour on the field and in everything else. That’s what separates you from them, if it’s a fist fight and you both agree and you pull a knife out when you’re about to lose, you might win the fight but he would have won the people and you would have lost all your face” Answered the teacher who was trying to tell the Amurrian in a way that he could understand it.

“I see, thank you.” Answered the Amurrian, to the shock of everyone including the teacher the Amurrian responded with respect and sat down without another noise. This was unheard of and was the first time anyone saw him like that. Huh the lessons must have hit him, thought Caihe to himself.

“You know when all of you grow to become eighteen, you’ll see that the military has a strong bond of brotherhood, especially after five years. Your squadron members in a way become your brothers and the company your squadron is assigned to is like a family, its all great until training starts again. Now I want all of you to look to your right, then to your left. These men and women sitting next to you should in time become like your brothers and sisters, as you progress through the school life will get harder for all of you no matter who you may be, those very people around you are obligated to help you in your time of need, for you are countrymen and women and this bond in that you make in class and outside will bring you closer to the point that you could be mistaken for siblings.” He turned to the clock to check the time. “That’s all the time we have for todays lesson, you are dismissed.” Said the teacher before preparing for his next class.

Iqaluit, Baffin Bay, Candanadium

Vladimir looked across the harbour from his control tower at the bustling port that sprawled in front of him. A regional jet of Air Candanadium was making its descent towards Iqaluit City Airport, the small airport located across the harbour. An Amurrian cargo liner had arrived at port two days prior, loaded to the brim with grain, fruits, and vegetables. A Jazadoan liner was in port too, handling an arms shipment. There was also a cruise ship sailing up from Guantanamo Bay, and he had to look over the passenger lists for that. For now, he had to inspect the Amurrian and Jazadoan cargo ships. It was his twelfth year in Candanadium, and he had finally gotten his citizenship three years ago. Vladimir Aleksandyervich Chernenko hailed from the city of Murmansk, and he had brought his family to Candanadium during the Cold War between New Karelograd and Letskia. He had settled in to life in Iqaluit, and did not want to go back. Iqaluit's winters reminded him of the unforgiving cold of Murmansk, though much milder compared to the -45 degree Decembers. His great-grandparents had been Ukrainians, and they had made a living in the shipyards of Murmansk. Now, Vladimir worked for the Iqaluit Port Authority, the organization responsible for Candanadium's busiest port.

He grabbed his jacket from the coat rack and donned his ushanka with the coat of arms of Candanadium, the three entangled crowned maple leaves, wrought in brass. He fished his gloves out from his pocket and slipped them on, then grabbed a clipboard and pen and went downstairs. The port was filled with the smells of fish, oil, and the foul stench of exhaust fumes, with seagulls flapping overhead, shrieking at each other over scraps of moldy bread or rotting fish. Vladimir made his way past the small fishing boats and the sailboats, all tied up for the winter, and headed for the shipping port. The Jazadoan ship was closest to him, and the words on her prow read Lion of Night. He made a quick note on his clipboard and made for the gangplank. The deck was well scrubbed, though covered with a thin sheet of ice. A Jazadoan banner streamed from the bridge, and some Chinese song was playing over a radio. Two men sat by a container box, smoking and playing Mahjong, or Chinese Tiles. One man slapped down a fistful of colourful bills and cursed before the other man took them, cackling. Vladimir saw the familiar face of King Richard on one of the blue notes, a 10-mark bill, but also the dark green Greater Canadian dollars and some red bill stamped with a lion and lettered in gold. Jazadoan Aurums, he thought, or maybe the new trade currency, the Käsespatze.

"Iqaluit Port Authority, here to inspect the cargo and collect import taxes." He announced to the sailor looking at him curiously. "Who is the captain?"

"That would be me." The sailor responded. "I am Li Gang-yuan, captain of the Lion of Night."

"Welcome to Iqaluit, Captain Li. Could we go somewhere more private?"

"Of course. We will talk in the bridge. Follow me." The captain made his way up some stairs and opened a heavy door, leading to the bridge. The bridge area was cramped and smelled of old tea leaves and some eastern spice that Vladimir could not make out. The captain gestured to a table by the window, and Vladimir took a seat.

"Captain, here are the required papers. Could I see your passport?" Vladimir asked, handing the captain a stack of documents.

"Here it is." The captain handed over a dark red passport with a golden lion on the front. People's Republic of Jazado, it read. Vladimir flipped to the photo page and recorded down the captain's information. Then, he flipped to the page with the entry stamp and stamped the Port Authority's inspection stamp on it.

"Alright, captain, what cargo are you bringing into Candanadium?" Vladimir flipped to a new page.

"Three containers of 5.56x45 ammunition, two containers of 7.62x51 ammunition, one container of C7A2 rifles, and a final container of Jazadoan liquor."

"Could I see your Weapons Transaction Permit, please?"

"Hold on, let me find it." The captain dug around his pockets. "Here." Vladimir examined the permit and stamped it, and made a note in his notes.

"Seven containers, with potentially dangerous goods. The import tax is 9 000 Marks, and with the port fees it will be 10 000 Marks, or 9 500 Käsespatze. Will you be paying it now or will your shipping company be wiring us the funds?"

"I will pay it now, in Käsespatze. Please excuse me." The captain opened a door and emerged a few moments later, a wad of cash in hand. The bills were light red, with the image of a Käsespatze on one side and a ship on the other. It had been issued by the Peoples' Bank of Jazado, but Vladimir knew that the Bank of Candanadium also issued such bills.

"Seven thousand, eight thousand, nine thousand, nine thousand five hundred. This is for you." The captain finished counting the money and handed it over. Vladimir made a note of the funds being received and counted them himself before placing them in his work wallet, used specifically for import taxes.

"That is everything, captain. One last question, how many crew members are there onboard?"

"Fifty-seven. Fifty Jazadoans, three Chinese Amurrians, and four Minjokians."

"Have they all been cleared by Border Authorities?"

"They have. The Border Authorities came aboard yesterday."

"Excellent. Have a safe voyage home, captain."

"Thank you. Good fortune to you as well." Vladimir walked down the gangplank and made for the Amurrian ship, the HIMMS Chrysanthemum. The Amurrian ship was berthed far from the Jazadoan one, at the end of the merchant port. The Amurrian captain was a short middle-aged man with a salt-and-pepper beard and an old Amurrian Self-Defence Forces beret on his head. He bowed towards Vladimir, and Vladimir did the same.

"Welcome to Iqaluit, captain. I am Vladimir Chernenko, of the Iqaluit Port Authority. I have come to collect port fees and import taxes."

"Welcome aboard the Chrysanthemum, Mr. Chernenko, but I fear that we are not importing any goods to Candanadium via Iqaluit, We have just come from Nuuk, to make a rest stop before heading for Guantanamo in the Carribean. I have already paid the port fees to another official."

"I will check in our database. Thank you, captain."

"No problem. Have a good day, Mr. Chernenko." Vladimir headed back to the control tower. He would need to deposit the funds, file the paperwork, and double check that the Chrysanthemum had paid its port fees. It was shaping up to be a busy day.
