The murders committed in Revolutionary Catalonia weren't fundamental to its existence, however, seeing as the syndicalist unions made a direct effort to combat and stop such vigilantism - which, may I remind you, practically stopped within the first couple of months. It was really only after the Stalinists began to take power that things became murderous and totalitarian both there and in the rest of the Republic.

And that was just in Catalonia, which was already very left-leaning. The situation would probably be much worse in areas with more middle class and farmers, as they were the principal losers in Catalonia.

The Republicans as a whole made as much of an effort as they could to curtail that, even in Catalonia, despite the widespread resentment toward the Church for blatantly supporting Franco and his Fascist friends. Hell, even this anti-clericalism was pretty much entirely vigilantism, whereas Franco and his allies deliberately orchestrated the killings of priests and nuns, among other thousands of people targeted by his growing regime.

Can't say I have too much to say here, since seizing the means of production is fundamental to the entirety of revolutionary leftism. At the very least, the business owners whose businesses were democratized were allowed to stay in and partake in the revolutionary society (unless, tragically, the vigilantes of the first couple months of the revolution found them). Compare to what the Nationalists did with their deliberate, orchestrated reprisals that included thousands of rapes and tortures committed against people from all sorts of walks of life, and the short-lived vigilantism, as utterly atrocious and irredeemable as it absolutely was, was far better by comparison, because both the Republic and the Syndicalist unions made an effort to protect even people they knew to be Fascists from such shit.

Don't get me wrong, Catalonia was nowhere near as bad as the Bolsheviks, but it only goes to show that in order to "free the workers" anarcho-communist societies will tend towards oppression of their own. You can't earnestly make the claim that they'll always tend toward oppressing others when, for instance, the Zapatistas (let's not break out the old, "hurr mountain living third-worlders" for a second here because that's a stupid fucking circlejerk) definitely don't oppress their own, and they're about as close to modern-day Anarcho-Communism being done on a large scale as you can get.
