I doubt it’s going to remain “independent” for very long

What is Albany going to do so it’s not independent?

That describes around 90% of American voters.

But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The [fascists] have the right to play. theres far less chance of a runaway constitutional convention than people think. Good luck getting 3/4ths of the country to agree on anything.

We're actually not far from a state-called convention.

Granted, this is for a lot of different reasons and a lot of the resolutions are decades old, but still.

There is no solution is the problem. It's why I've become so disillusioned with the system. Both party establishments will kill any attempts at serious reform (looking back at the Reform Party is a great example of this, they were absolutely destroyed in a masterful political move by the GOP and it's a tragedy) and the idea of a Constitutional Convention opens up the possibility of all sorts of other nasty shit making it through because you aren't going to get both sides to come together and destroy their own power so it's going to have be a one sided affair which means the Dems or GOP will have carte blanche to rewrite things etc etc

The system is fucked yo

They won't even agree on that. It would be political suicide for both the DNC and RNC.

Sure they might call one, but I highly doubt any convention would be successful unless it is on a glaringly obvious issue.

You have no solution then and would rather just complain. I would say run for state legislature next time but I’m sure you’ll say I’d never win or some other cop out answer.

There are many examples this year of people running fantastic campaigns no one expected them to win and pulled off huge upsets

Oh I don’t know perhaps a means to get your ideas implemented? You could write a bill and have it debated and voted on by the legislature. Who knows it might even be passed

Keep in mind that these delegations aren't national politicians, they often don't get those fancy corporate donors and would be more likely to vote against the interests of their national parties.

A few stated have already ratified resolutions to call for an amendment to fix campaign finance.

Yes, we do. We all do. And you're either extremely naive or willfully obtuse if you think Dems or Repubs will every willfully hand their opposition more power.

Yes, yes I do. Because that's already what happens. It's why I stopped contacting my reps because no matter how well thought out and evidence based my positions were I got told to fuck off (in a politer way of course but the message was always clear) with the sole exception of a state senator whose office was rather accepting and agreed with a number of my points on some topics but he's a black sheep of sorts so that doesn't really even mean anything.

Yes, I'm sure for some people that is a problem.

Several new members of congress would disagree. No one thought Kendra horn in Oklahoma or Joe Cunningham in South Carolina would win

Heck here in New York several state senate districts flipped no one thought was competitive. Staten Island also ousted their congressman

I don't think I could do better than him, but it goes to show why running would be pointless. He's even a Democrat and is still ostracized to a degree by the rest of the state party because he dares to lean to the right on some topics.

Oh but I would be a mute because I'd be in the minority and my views wouldn't matter. You have an overly utopian view of how our system works and I hate to break it to you bud but your views don't match reality.
