Seriously, I want prop 10 so we can get rent control.

Rent control is absolutely idiotic.

What is a rent control?
Rent regulation is a system of laws, administered by a court or a public authority, which aim to ensure the affordability of housing and tenancies on the rental market for dwellings. ... price controls (limits on the rent that a landlord may charge, typically called rent control or rent stabilization

Well at least the word "Venezuela" wasn't mentioned (but that's reserved for Andrew Gillum and any Florida Democrats).

I know. Venezuela is an authoritarian regime with an incompetent leader. But the GOP will still use that to try to rile up voters who aren't particularly well-informed about socialism and stuff like that.

Mostly conservatives who think that, feeling obligated to crap on anything liberal

We hashed this out a while ago with someone else splitting hairs about California migration, where by just people moving we're losing like, less than a percent or some shit. Of course it's because we're commie bastards whatever, taxes...the reality was really kind of easy to understand. Most of the people leaving make less than $55,000 and most of the people coming in make $200,000 or more. People who can afford housing are moving in, people who can't are moving out. I was literally thinking about this earlier, I think there's a whistling past the graveyard element, like our tax base grows, we could lose two lower income residents for one high income one (not really how it works but whatever) and come out ahead, except you can't have a state without poor people. I mean, you can, but not in a capitalist system, for all the derision for the job, someone has to make burgers and clean hotel rooms...basically make these cities function. Either we start paying them more or make the cost of living more affordable or do both. Which is kind of happening. The minimum wage is going up in effected areas like LA and San Francisco, prop 10 ends the ban on rent control. We'll see. Brown spent most of his time pulling up from Schwarzenegger, we'll see what Newsom does. What the fuck were we talking about?
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

I can’t say how predictive these special elections are.

I mean, I don't have anything to base it on either except vague memories of reading stuff about pollsters "correcting" themselves and me arguing that could mean underestimating Dems in the future. The status quo or GOP+1 is most probably what we're looking at.

Take this as speculation on my part. I'm not too well versed on how pollsters poll, but it does make sense that they'd do different things for different states/regions. Although I am still concerned that a lot of them over did it after the backlash in 2016.

Apparently like 67% of "close" races usually break for one party and I kind of have my doubts that statistic is going to favor Republicans this time around.

All Bernie Sanders and other politicians of his mold need to do is stop calling themselves "socialist." I mean, what's wrong with terming themselves progressives or social Democrats (of the Western European variety)? That's what they are. We're just asking for pain where we don't need it.

It's about a racist ad that Trump ran. You can ignore CNN's commentary and simply watch the ad, unless you think CNN made up an imaginary ad to make Trump look bad, which would be really, really stupid.

I watched the ad on Twitter and I see no racism. First of all Mexicans aren't a race. Second of all the issue is legitimate. Third of all how can facts be racist?

He's not saying all mestizos are inferior or murderers. He's literally showing a video of Democrats letting in (or wanting to let in) people who admit by themselves they are murderers. How many more would Democrats like to let in?

First of all, this ad uses utterly ridiculous doublethink, claiming the man who killed those cops was illegal but also that was he "let in" by Democrats? Which one is it? If he was here illegally, then no one "let him in", if he was "let in" then he would have had legal status.

The claim that Democrats let him in is also ridiculous. Which fucking Democrats? Congressional ones? Nope. The Dems in California? Nope. The Dems in the city? Nope. Politicians don't let anyone come in or keep anyone out. That's on border patrol and the courts. Such a claim would be like saying that Republicans let al-Queda in in 2001, as if there was someone saying "yes, I am letting you through, I'm giving you permission to be here."

The caravan of Honduran refugees has nothing to do with that guy, and the one guy who supposedly said he was seeking a pardon for attempted murder, there is absolutely no context to this situation at all.

This ad appeals to the lowest common denominator. It's only effective on people who don't think about it.

But someone said it was factual so it cannot possibly in any way shape or form be racist because they said so.
