Frankly, as long as they do not start violently persecuting groups of people and provide jobs and services, do I really effing care about whether the government is democratic or a dictatorship?

At least with the dictatorship, I know they aren't lollygagging around pretending to be effing paragons of virtue while screwing me over unlike democracies, straight to the damn point.

Dictatorships by their very nature persecute people. It's necessary to use state violence to eliminate dissidents to maintain a dictatorship.

It depends on the definition of "dissident", since opposition to a dictatorial government can easily grow sour and violent, and if they initiate the aggression...

The problem with dictatorships is not the SYSTEM, it's THE PEOPLE that are part of such governments.

Greedy, corrupt, completely disconnected from the masses, and thus without "Panem et circenses", the people will inevitably revolt.

If a system of governance relies on a small number of people to not act in their own self interest to not violently oppress people than it is in fact the system itself that is the problem. A "benevolent dictatorship" is simply one that was luckly enough to have a leader with larger aims than themselves, but that will change when that leader is removed. Ergo, dictatorship's natural state is one that is... problematic for the good of the commons.

It is not a system without flaws, but then again, when is a political system ever perfect?

Benevolent dictatorships have existed and worked, but like you said, it has its issues.

It's not about perfection. Dictatorships by their very nature will inevitably fall into tyranny, its not the system breaking that causes it. Because dictatorships mandate political repression of their opponents, they have to, on a fundamental level suppress the people. The only functional way of doing this is through state violence.

This is the most internet discussion since interneting came to internettown.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

I didn't fucking riot, I went... troubled in the mind for some months after Trump won. Can I be worried as fuck now, or is worry reserved for authoritarians and their enablers alone?

Guys?

Get yourself an actual newspaper first. The Washington Examiner is garbage tier shit. The Washington Times is better than them by a long shot

I have on very good authority that Tel would care if women, LGBT, and the environment all went to shit. Guns aren’t the only thing they care about. But it’s the one thing that gets you riled up

True. In other recent polls, Gillum is polling around 1-4 points above DeSantis. Within the margin of error, sure, but overall, I think Gillum's odds are decent (maybe 3/4). What's interesting is that it's not unlikely Nelson will lose by a slim margin whereas Gillum could simultaneously win by a slim or even decent sized margin.

But, y'know, progressives still can't win, clearly.

It certainly doesnt seem like it.

Its also equally frightening when you called for a military coup against the all but certain next governor of California. its nice to know you are so anti democracy. Go ask someone from Myanmar how wonderful military rule is.

Would call for a coup if Stacey Abrams is elected Governor of your state?

Many of the people who would vote for Gillum are very unlikely to also cast a ballot for Scott.

How is it frightening for the federal government to enforce its rule of law in California. California has been acting like it’s not apart of the US and an independent nation. That shit needs to stop.

I would find several million who agree with me. Besides I like the military.

Would call for a coup if Stacey Abrams is elected Governor of your state?

No. Mainly because she would keep the republicans from a one party controlling everything.

See in my perfect non meme world the democrats would control the presidency, the republicans would control the senate, and the democrats would control the house. Same for each of the states. That way the parties are forced to work with eachother.

No they are not acting like a independent nation. They have a right to elect who they want to state office and pass laws that do not conflict with the constitution. A military coup against a government elected in a free and fair election is not the way to get what you want.

You've obviously never met someone from Myanmar. If you did you'd think differently

And your perfect world is unfair because in effect you have a rigged election. why shouldn't people get to choose who they want to control each branch of the government.

Gotta agree. I genuinely think that in a majority of states, Lean R states like FL included, progressives will do better in the general than so called "New Democrats."

I do agree its entirely possible Gillum wins by a bigger margin than Nelson but I have a very difficult time seeing Gillum not drag him over the finish line.
