If they want to keep their tax exempt status? Questionable, as that relates to political rather than judicial limitations. It's strongly questionable since I don't believe for a second they suddenly became fiercely interested in the judiciary and it reeks of politics.

Then again it's mostly mainliners so i doubt anyone really cares.

I don't believe the NCC is a tax exempt organization.

Betting odds for him getting confirmed are over 70% still I think. Unless the FBI report has something big in it he's probably gonna win over the 3 Republicans he needs and probably Manchin and Donnelly too

This is outrageous

So because he appeared angry when people attacked his past and made accusations against him (all conveniently timed) he somehow appears unbalanced and so should be blocked?

These professors can barely hide their pro democrat bias...

So what evidence is there to support his accusations of a conspiracy to avenge the Clintons?

And yes, if he starts going on about how he's going to undermine the Democrats if they get into power, and thus explicitly destroy the neutrality of the Judicial Branch, then he should be removed from consideration.

He’s not allowed to be human?

It shows a lack of emotional restraint to get angry at people investigating his past in a hearing whose purpose is literally to investigate a person and determine their suitability for the position.

To use the job interview analogy, it would be like a potential new hire getting angry and defensive when a recruiter asks for their job history.

There is no evidence that there is a conspiracy but he’s innocent until proven guilty and not the other way around (though these days, a simple accusation relating to sex is in and of itself career ruining so it seems have been displaced)

As for ruining the Democrats, you don’t think a democratic nominee in his stead wouldn’t undermine republicans?

It’s par the course and expected, there’s literally no reason to even act at this point, we all know the court is a partisan battleground at least he’s not treating us like we still naively believe otherwise

Yes. That is my position as well. He failed a basic test by his performance, and showed that he is unsuitable for a position on the highest court in the land.

I've provided quotes from several registered Republicans and conservative voices saying the same thing, like Benjamin Wittes, Editor in chief of Lawfare and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. It's also why some people who supported him before have now withdrawn their support.

The reason for our withdrawal is not the truth or falsity of Dr. Ford’s allegations, which are still being investigated, but rather was the nature of Judge Kavanaugh’s testimony.  In our view that testimony was partisan, and not judicious, and inconsistent with what we expect from a Justice of the Supreme Court, particularly when dealing with a co-equal branch of government.

This is not a judgment on Brett Kavanaugh as a human being. It is rather a conclusion rooted in what is institutionally required from a Supreme Court Justice. In our democracy, the legitimacy of the Supreme Court arises from the confidence Americans have that it deliberates and decides cases based not on partisanship, but on principles. Judge Kavanaugh, earlier in the confirmation process, observed that ‘the Supreme Court must never be viewed as a partisan institution.’ He was right.

Under the current circumstances, we fear that partisanship has injected itself into Judge Kavanaugh’s candidacy. That, and the lack of judicial temperament displayed on September 27 hearing, cause us to withdraw our support."

My opinion: He probably did something. Where on the scale of "inappropriate (but not criminally so) behavior" - "sexual harassment" - "rape" it belongs I don't know. But the way he tried to defend himself on the topic shows to me, that he knows very well, that he did something that should really disqualify him from the position, that's why he tries to lie and weasel himself out of the affair. However who really cares about something like this these days? I mean, with Trump being president, what's 1 or 3 or lots of sexual harassment and or rape for a judge?

The real problem is, that the Republicans have a solid majority in the supreme court now and at least Kavanaugh has to be so goddamn loyal to them for the way, they pushed him to get the job, the judicative is basically on it's way to become a pawn of the executive what is even worse then whether or not one of them raped a few girls in his youth. ... No wait, not pawn of the executive, since these judges will stay in place even if the elections soon and in 2 years bring the Democrats back to power ... The Supreme court is becoming a pawn of one party. - That's even worse.

I suspect the answer would be "One functioning republic, with an independent, non-partisan judiciary and a credible non-politicized Supreme Court which upholds the rule of law. A bargain, really."

Right, because the only reason a Republican would ever possibly say something that disagrees with your preconception is money. Clearly.

And still waiting for that evidence of conspiracy.

Our entire judiciary is already deeply partisan and politicized though. Kavanaugh getting on the court or not isn't going to change that.

Right, how dare they not simply rubberstamp everything put in front of them. Or in other words how dare the opposition party in government act like an opposition party in government.

There's a a substantial difference between being an opposition party and derailing an appointment process by launching fabricated sexual assault/rape allegations. One is politics, the other is slander.

Did they for Gorsuch, not really because there was no such mud.. did the Republicans refuse to even table Merrick Garland? Sure they did for.. reasons..

Kavanaugh wouldn't be in this position if he was entirely clean of mud to begin with.

The reason nobody made a big deal about Gorsuch is because he was replacing Scalia. There was no functional change in the court so nobody cared. It's a much different story with Kavanaugh and that's why all this shit happened.

Because he responded emotionally to allegations of the most heinous kind. Once again, society encouraging women to be emotional and then turn around and condemning a man for doing the same is being played out and being justified by the very kinds of people that elsewhere complain about men and boys showing a lack of emotions.

And we wonder why men don't get emotional.

They kind of tried, they tried to filibuster and the R's had to change the process to a simple majority vote to break that. Yet the worst they found on him was he might have plagiarised but didn't really. He was pretty clean.

The R's knew Kavanaugh would be problematic but Trump picked him anyway because.. well he's Trump.
