President Francesco Carcaterra in a televised address confirmed that last night’s nationwide anti-mafia raids was an “unmitigated success.” He confirmed that law-enforcement had arrested 1,503 suspects, seized and shuttered over 200 legitimate and illegal businesses, freed hundreds of women from prostitution and crippled the Corruption. He also revealed that 56 people had been killed in shootouts, including six law-enforcement personnel.

Etrurians awoke this morning to scenes never seen in before in modern history. Thousands of Federal, Auxiliary Police, Civil Security Service and units of the Etrurian Defence Force deployed across hundreds of towns and cities. Operation Gladio began at 10pm in the major cities, with Federal personnel launching over 200 raids on as many properties in search of suspected Mafiosi. This was followed by a further 366 raids across Etruria by elements of the Federal and Auxiliary Police Services, Civil Security Service and the Etrurian Defence Force.
During the raids, criminals engaged in shootouts with Federal personnel. One incident took place inside a popular wine bar in central Vicalvi, it was a prime target according to the full brief released by the Interior Ministry, owing to its “role as a meeting place, planning centre and central social hub for the Black Cross Society.” 11 criminals were killed inside the bar, while one CSS agent was also killed and two FPS officers injured.
The Etrurian Defence Force reportedly took part in the capture of Mauro Marini, Salvattore Lupe, Matteo Ballucci and Aldo Fini. These four were reportedly captured by EDF special forces in their coastal Palazzi. Fini’s capture resulted in the deaths of three of his bodyguards and the destruction of his home by an accidental fire.
The Interior Ministry also reported in its brief, that over 200 businesses had been raided, seized and shuttered under the CSA. These included barber shops, bars, restaurants, construction companies, illegal casinos, dance halls and brothels. Further properties, including home and large businesses, alongside financial and physical assets will be seized in due course.
Altogether, 1,503 individuals have been arrested and are being detained in makeshift prisons in isolated locations throughout Etruria. Under the recently passed Civil Security Act, they can be held without charge for 72 hours, though, pending judicial approval they can be held for a further week.
In his televised address, President Carcaterra said, “last night we honoured our vow, we kept our promise to rise up and confront the Mafiosi, the Corruption, that has plagued our greater fatherland for decades and generations. We said we would fight to clean out our system and bad cells and we did that.”
“Last night we saw the best in our brave men and women in uniform. The Federal Services conducted themselves with the upmost bravery, professionalism and commitment to the people’s cause. We saw them conduct the operation with seamless success and precision, which has decimated the Corruption and inflicted lasting damage on their operations and criminal enterprises. To the services, Etruria thanks you and Etruria salutes you” he said.
“Last night’s operation, aimed to inflict as much as damage upon the Corruption in one fell swoop, that has been achieved. In the process of the operation, 1,503 suspects were arrested and now in Federal custody. This high number guarantees severe damage and chaos to the Corruption, at all levels the mafia has suffered losses in fixers, fighters and killers. This level of disruption will be key in coming months as we pursue to use those in custody against the Corruption itself, those who escaped our grasp last night however, will soon join their brethren in detention” he said further.
“While we can all rejoice in our nation’s victory over the infection that has corruption and sucked off the system like the parasitic form that it is, we must not relent, this is just the beginning and we have much more work to do. In coming days, the full support and cooperation of the Etrurian people will be necessary, we will call upon you all to aid us in finishing off the infestation of corrupting individuals, any information or the location of suspects will be needed. Specialist phonelines will be established to allow citizens the opportunity to provide invaluable information. Together we will triumph over the Corruption” the President said.
However, the President was swift in his praise for the Federal personnel who died during the operation.
“It is with a heavy heart however, that I must confirm that in the process of conducting this operation, six brave personnel, six brave sons of Etruria were lost, sadly killed in the line of duty. I did not have sufficient words to offer comfort to the loved ones of those we lost, I don’t have the vocabulary worthy to honour them, for I never had the personal pleasure of knowing the officers. But Etruria salutes them, we shall honour them and cherish them, we shall remember them always.
“We will remember Lucca Salo, Davide Gemelli, Ettore Torelli, Marco Mercurio, Pietro Rossi and Tarquinio Scorza. These names shall be etched onto the walls of our national heroes and martyrs, though we pray for their families, let them also be praised for offering our country such courageous and resolute sons” he said.
“Now the fight continues, the struggle goes on and soon we find ourselves a nation liberated of criminality, for Etruria always. Long live Etruria and long live the Republic” he concluded.
Further details are expected to merge in coming days of the true extent of the operation’s success. While the Interior Ministry has declared two days of national mourning for the six officers killed in the operation.
