It would be hard to define nature in a way that it wants anything. Be that the natural state of things, the ecosystem, mystical 'balance', or the natural laws of the universe.
None of them want anything any more than my chair wants me to sit in it.

As a lapdog, I firmly believe my chair wants me to sit in it.

We do not think nationally because the facts that count are not systematically reported and presented in a form we can digest. Our most abysmal ignorance occurs where we deal with the immigrant. If we read his press at all, it is to discover ‘Bolshevism’ in it and to blacken all immigrants with suspicion. For his culture and his aspirations, for his high gifts of hope and variety, we have neither eyes nor ears. The immigrant colonies are like holes in the road which we never notice until we trip over them. Then, because we have no current information and no background of facts, we are, of course, the undiscriminating objects of any agitator who choose to rant against ‘foreigners.’ - Walter Lippmann, The Basic Problem of Democracy

There is a mad Earl in northern England who (along with his staff) shoots grey squirrels because he only tolerates the native red ones. Nut to that.

Considering the red ones are being driven out of their natural habitat by the greys, that's not really unreasonable.

Although we've tried to cull pests and invasive species in some pretty... uh... creative ways. Getting everyone to start beating toads with sticks, spreading plagues, and so on.

I'm more referencing the dropping of poisons in conservation areas to kill off invasive pests.Albrenia wrote:Yeah, we lost that war, which is hilarious.

We have Easter Rabbit Hunts in some parts of the South Island where the goal is to go out and shoot as many rabbits as possible. There was also some controversy up north with regards to something involving possums too.

There's a difference between your chair and a tree. The tree is alive... the chair not so much. This means that your chair doesn't want anything while the tree does. What the tree wants is to colonize everywhere. This is what all living things want... so this is exactly what nature wants. Now is a rock a part of nature? I suppose, but then I'm referring to the part of nature that's alive. Like I said in the OP... life is synonymous with colonization. What I didn't say in the OP is that life is the most important part of nature. But this should really go without saying.

Trees don't want things. They don't have brains.
